Memory effects on energy loss and diffusion of heavy quarks in the quark-gluon plasma

We study the dynamics of heavy quarks in a thermalized quark-gluon plasma with a time-correlated thermal noise, $η$. In this case it is said that $η$ has memory. We use an integro-differential Langevin equation in which the memory enters via the thermal noise and the dissipative force. We assume that the time correlations of the noise decay exponentially on a time scale, $τ$, that we treat as a free parameter. We compute the effects of $τ\neq 0$ on the thermalization time of the heavy quarks, on their momentum broadening and on the nuclear modification factor. We find that overall memory slows down the momentum evolution of heavy quarks: in fact, transverse momentum broadening and the formation of $R_{AA}$ are slowed down by memory and the thermalization time of the heavy quarks become larger. The potential impact on other observables is discussed briefly.

Vehicle Teleoperation: Successive Reference-Pose Tracking

Vehicle teleoperation is an interesting feature in many fields. A typical problem of teleoperation is communication time delay which, together with actuator saturation and environmental disturbance, can cause a vehicle deviation from the target trajectory imposed by the human operator who imposes to the vehicle a steering wheel angle reference and a speed/acceleration reference. With predictive techniques, time-delay can be accounted at sufficient extent. But, in presence of disturbances, due to the absence of instantaneous haptic and visual feedback, human-operator steering command transmitted to the the vehicle is unaccounted with disturbances observed by the vehicle. To improve reference tracking without losing promptness in driving control, reference trajectory in the form of successive reference poses can be transmitted instead of steering commands to the vehicle. We introduce this new concept, namely, the 'successive reference-pose tracking (SRPT)' to improve path tracking in vehicle teleoperation. This paper discusses feasibility and advantages of this new method, compare to the smith predictor control approach. Simulations are performed in SIMULINK environment, where a 14-dof vehicle model is being controlled with Smith and SRPT controllers in presence of variable network delay. Scenarios for performance comparison are low adhesion ground, strong lateral wind and steer-rate demanding maneuvers. Simulation result shows significant improvement in reference tracking with SRPT approach.

Finite size effect on Dissociation and Diffusion of chiral partners in Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model

Along with masses of pion and sigma meson modes, their dissociation into quark medium provide a detail spectral structures of the chiral partners. Present article has studied a finite size effect on that detail structure of chiral partners by using the framework of Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. Through this dissociation mechanism, their diffusions and conductions are also studied. The masses, widths, diffusion coefficients, conductivities of chiral partners are merged at different temperatures in restore phase of chiral symmetry, but merging points of all are shifted in lower temperature, when one introduce finite size effect into the picture. The strengths of diffusions and conductions are also reduced due to finite size consideration.

Engineered optical nonlinearities and enhanced light transmission in soft-matter systems with tunable polarizabilities

In this work, we demonstrate that the nonlinear response of certain soft-matter systems can be tailored at will by appropriately engineering their optical polarizability. In particular, we deliberately synthesize stable colloidal suspensions with negative polarizabilities, and observe for the first time robust propagation and enhanced transmission of self-trapped light over long distances that would have been otherwise impossible in conventional suspensions with positive polarizabilities. What greatly facilitates this behavior is an induced saturable nonlinear optical response introduced by the thermodynamic properties of these colloidal systems. This in turn leads to a substantial reduction in scattering via self-activated transparency effects. Our results may open up new opportunities in developing soft-matter systems with tunable optical nonlinearities.

Study of Ni and Zn doped CeOFeAs: Effect on the structural transition and specific heat capacity

We have systematically studied the substitution of nonmagnetic Zn and magnetic Ni at iron sites in Ce based oxypnictide. The parent compound (CeOFeAs) shows an anomaly in resistivity around 150 K due to structural transition from tetragonal (space group: P4/nmm) to orthorhombic structure (space group: Cmma). Substitution of Zn suppresses this anomaly to lower temperature (~130 K) but Ni substitution does not show any anomaly around this temperature and the compound behaves like a metal. Further, we find that non magnetic (Zn) doping leads to higher impurity scattering as compared to magnetic Ni doping. Similar to the resistivity measurement, the specific heat shows another jump near 4 K for CeOFeAs. This is attributed to the ordering of Ce3+ moments. This peak shifts to 3.8 K for Zn substituted compound and there is no change in the ordering temperature in the Ni substituted CeOFeAs. These peaks are broadened in applied magnetic field (5 T) and the calculated magnetic entropy tends to saturate at the same value for 0 T and 5 T external magnetic field.

Superconducting and critical properties of PrOFe0.9Co0.1As: effect of P doping

PrOFe0.9Co0.1As is known to be a superconductor with a TC of ~14 K. In an attempt to induce charge transfer and also induce chemical pressure between the FeAs and PrO layers we have synthesized for the first time oxypnictides of the type PrOFe0.9Co0.1As1-xPx (P doping at As sites). All the compounds crystallize in the tetragonal ZrCuSiAs type structure (space group = P4/nmm). The lattice parameters (a and c) decrease as expected on substitution of smaller phosphorous at the arsenic site in PrOFe0.9Co0.1As and a decrease in TC was observed on substitution of P ions at a low rate of 0.13K/at. % of P for x > 0.1. The irreversibility field (Hirr) and critical current density (JC), obtained using the AC susceptibility measurements was found to decrease monotonically with increasing 'P' concentration. 'Hirr' is observed to be much smaller than HC2, pointing to a very low pinning energy. The pinning potential obtained using both in-field transport and AC susceptibility measurements indicate a low value of ~40 meV and show no significant variation with P substitution.
