An Enigmatic PeVatron in an Area around HII Region G35.6−-0.5

Identifying Galactic PeVatrons (PeV particle accelerators) from the ultra-high-energy (UHE, >100 TeV) γγ-ray sources plays a crucial role in revealing the origin of Galactic cosmic rays. The UHE source 1LHAASO J1857+0203u is suggested to be associated with HESS J1858+020, which may be attributed to the possible PeVatron candidate supernova remnant (SNR) G35.6−-0.4 or HII region G35.6−-0.5. We perform detailed analysis on the very-high-energy and UHE γγ-ray emissions towards this region with data from the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO). 1LHAASO J1857+0203u is detected with a significance of 11.6σσ above 100 TeV, indicating the presence of a PeVatron. It has an extension of ∼0.18∘\sim 0.18^\circ with a power-law (PL) spectral index of ∼\sim2.5 in 1-25 TeV and a point-like emission with a PL spectral index of ∼\sim3.2 above 25 TeV. Using the archival CO and HI data, we identify some molecular and atomic clouds that may be associated with the TeV γγ-ray emissions. Our modelling indicates that the TeV γγ-ray emissions are unlikely to arise from the clouds illuminated by the protons that escaped from SNR G35.6−-0.4. In the scenario that HII region G35.6−-0.5 could accelerate particles to the UHE band, the observed GeV-TeV γγ-ray emission could be well explained by a hadronic model with a PL spectral index of ∼\sim2.0 and cutoff energy of ∼\sim450 TeV. However, an evolved pulsar wind nebula origin cannot be ruled out.

An Ultrahigh-energy γγ-ray Bubble Powered by a Super PeVatron

We report the detection of a γγ-ray bubble spanning at least 100deg2\rm deg^2 in ultra high energy (UHE) up to a few PeV in the direction of the star-forming region Cygnus X, implying the presence Super PeVatron(s) accelerating protons to at least 10 PeV. A log-parabola form with the photon index Γ(E)=(2.71±0.02)+(0.11±0.02)×log⁡10(E/10 TeV)Γ(E) = (2.71 \pm 0.02) + (0.11 \pm 0.02) \times \log_{10} (E/10 \ {\rm TeV}) is found fitting the gamma-ray energy spectrum of the bubble well. UHE sources, `hot spots' correlated with very massive molecular clouds, and a quasi-spherical amorphous γγ-ray emitter with a sharp central brightening are observed in the bubble. In the core of ∼0.5∘\sim 0.5^{\circ}, spatially associating with a region containing massive OB association (Cygnus OB2) and a microquasar (Cygnus X-3), as well as previously reported multi-TeV sources, an enhanced concentration of UHE γγ-rays are observed with 2 photons at energies above 1 PeV. The general feature of the bubble, the morphology and the energy spectrum, are reasonably reproduced by the assumption of a particle accelerator in the core, continuously injecting protons into the ambient medium.

Constraining the Cosmic-ray Energy Based on Observations of Nearby Galaxy Clusters by LHAASO

Galaxy clusters act as reservoirs of high-energy cosmic rays (CRs). As CRs propagate through the intracluster medium, they generate diffuse γγ-rays detectable by arrays such as LHAASO. These γγ-rays result from proton-proton (pppp) collisions of very high-energy cosmic rays (VHECRs) or inverse Compton (IC) scattering of positron-electron pairs created by pγpγ interactions of ultra-high-energy cosmic rays (UHECRs). We analyzed diffuse γγ-ray emission from the Coma, Perseus, and Virgo clusters using LHAASO data. Diffuse emission was modeled as a disk of radius R500R_{500} for each cluster while accounting for point sources. No significant diffuse emission was detected, yielding 95\% confidence level (C.L.) upper limits on the γγ-ray flux: for WCDA (1-25~TeV) and KM2A (>25>25~TeV), less than (49.4,13.7,54.0)(49.4, 13.7, 54.0) and (1.34,1.14,0.40)×10−14(1.34, 1.14, 0.40) \times 10^{-14}~ph~cm−2^{-2}~s−1^{-1} for Coma, Perseus, and Virgo, respectively. The γγ-ray upper limits can be used to derive model-independent constraints on the integral energy of CRp above 10~TeV (corresponding to the LHAASO observational range >1>1~TeV under the pppp scenario) to be less than (1.96,0.59,0.08)×1061(1.96, 0.59, 0.08) \times 10^{61}~erg. The absence of detectable annuli/ring-like structures, indicative of cluster accretion or merging shocks, imposes further constraints on models in which the UHECRs are accelerated in the merging shocks of galaxy clusters.

Constraints on heavy decaying dark matter from 570 days of LHAASO observations

The Kilometer Square Array~(KM2A) of the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) aims at surveying the northern gamma-ray sky at energies above 10 TeV with unprecedented sensitivity. Gamma-ray observations have long been one of the most powerful tools for dark matter searches, as e.g., high-energy gamma-rays could be produced by the decays of heavy dark matter particles. In this letter, we present the first dark matter analysis with LHAASO-KM2A, using the first 340~days of data from 1/2-KM2A and 230~days of data from 3/4-KM2A. Several regions of interest are used to search for a signal and account for the residual cosmic-ray background after gamma/hadron separation. We find no excess of dark matter signals, and thus place some of the strongest gamma-ray constraints on the lifetime of heavy dark matter particles with mass between 10^5 and 10^9~GeV. Our results with LHAASO are robust, and have important implications for dark matter interpretations of the diffuse astrophysical high-energy neutrino emission.

Deep view of Composite SNR CTA1 with LHAASO in γγ-rays up to 300 TeV

The ultra-high-energy (UHE) gamma-ray source 1LHAASO J0007+7303u is positionally associated with the composite SNR CTA1 that is located at high Galactic Latitude b≈10.5∘b\approx 10.5^\circ. This provides a rare opportunity to spatially resolve the component of the pulsar wind nebula (PWN) and supernova remnant (SNR) at UHE. This paper conducted a dedicated data analysis of 1LHAASO J0007+7303u using the data collected from December 2019 to July 2023. This source is well detected with significances of 21σσ and 17σσ at 8−-100 TeV and >>100 TeV, respectively. The corresponding extensions are determined to be 0.23∘±^{\circ}\pm0.03∘^{\circ} and 0.17∘±^{\circ}\pm0.03∘^{\circ}. The emission is proposed to originate from the relativistic electrons and positrons accelerated within the PWN of PSR J0007+7303. The energy spectrum is well described by a power-law with an exponential cutoff function dN/dE=(42.4±4.1)(E20 TeV)−2.31±0.11exp⁡(−E110±25 TeV)dN/dE = (42.4\pm4.1)(\frac{E}{20\rm\ TeV})^{-2.31\pm0.11}\exp(-\frac{E}{110\pm25\rm\ TeV})  TeV−1 cm−2 s−1\rm\ TeV^{-1}\ cm^{-2}\ s^{-1}in the energy range from 8 TeV to 300 TeV, implying a steady-state parent electron spectrum dNe/dEe∝(Ee100 TeV)−3.13±0.16exp⁡[(−Ee373±70 TeV)2]dN_e/dE_e\propto (\frac{E_e}{100\rm\ TeV})^{-3.13\pm0.16}\exp[(\frac{-E_e}{373\pm70\rm\ TeV})^2] at energies above ≈50 TeV\approx 50 \rm\ TeV. The cutoff energy of the electron spectrum is roughly equal to the expected current maximum energy of particles accelerated at the PWN terminal shock. Combining the X-ray and gamma-ray emission, the current space-averaged magnetic field can be limited to ≈4.5 μG\approx 4.5\rm\ μG. To satisfy the multi-wavelength spectrum and the γγ-ray extensions, the transport of relativistic particles within the PWN is likely dominated by the advection process under the free-expansion phase assumption.

Discovery of a new γγ-ray source LHAASO J0341+5258 with emission up to 200TeV

We report the discovery of a new unidentified extended γγ-ray source in the Galactic plane named LHAASO J0341+5258 with a pre-trial significance of 8.2 standard deviations above 25 TeV. The best fit position is R.A.=55.34∘±0.11∘=55.34^{\circ}\pm0.11^{\circ} and Dec=52.97∘±0.07∘=52.97^{\circ}\pm0.07^{\circ}. The angular size of LHAASO J0341+5258 is 0.29∘±0.06stat∘±0.02sys∘0.29^\circ \pm 0.06^\circ_{stat} \pm0.02^\circ_{sys}. The flux above 25 TeV is about 20%20\% of the flux of Crab Nebula. Although a power-law fit of the spectrum from 10 TeV to 200 TeV with the photon index α=2.98±0.19stat±0.02sysα=2.98 \pm 0.19_{stat} \pm 0.02_{sys} is not excluded, the LHAASO data together with the flux upper limit at 10 GeV set by the Fermi LAT observation, indicate a noticeable steepening of an initially hard power-law spectrum %(α≤1.75α\leq 1.75) spectrum with a cutoff at ≈50\approx 50 TeV. We briefly discuss the origin of UHE gamma-rays. The lack of an energetic pulsar and a young SNR inside or in the vicinity of LHAASO J0341+5258 challenge, but do not exclude both the leptonic and hadronic scenarios of gamma-ray production.

Discovery of the Ultra-high energy gamma-ray source LHAASO J2108+5157

We report the discovery of a UHE gamma-ray source, LHAASO J2108+5157, by analyzing the LHAASO-KM2A data of 308.33 live days. Significant excess of gamma-ray induced showers is observed in both energy bands of 25-100 TeV and >\gt100 TeV with 9.5 sigma and 8.5 sigma, respectively. This source is not significantly favored as an extensive source with the angular extension smaller than the point-spread function of KM2A. The measured energy spectrum from 20 to 200 TeV can be approximately described by a power-law function with an index of -2.83±\pm 0.18stat. A harder spectrum is demanded at lower energies considering the flux upper limit set by Fermi-LAT observations. The position of the gamma-ray emission is correlated with a giant molecular cloud, which favors a hadronic origin. No obvious counterparts have been found, deeper multiwavelength observations will help to shed new light on this intriguing UHE source.

Energy calibration of LHAASO-KM2A using the cosmic ray Moon shadow

We present a precise measurement of the westward, rigidity-dependent shift of the Moon's shadow using three and a half years of cosmic-ray data collected by the Kilometer Square Array (KM2A) of the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO). These measurements enable us to calibrate the detector energy response in the range 20-260 TeV, with results showing excellent agreement with the response derived from Monte Carlo (MC) simulations of the KM2A detector. We also measure a best-fit parameter ε=0.015±0.08ε= 0.015 \pm 0.08, corresponding to a 95% confidence interval of [-14%, +17%] for the energy-scale estimation. This result establishes the exceptional accuracy of the KM2A-MC in simulating the detector's response within this energy range.

Energy-Dependent Shifts of Medium-Scale Anisotropies in Very-High-Energy Cosmic Rays Observed by LHAASO-KM2A

Small deviations from isotropy in the arrival directions of Galactic cosmic rays serve as a unique probe of the local magnetic environment. In this Letter, we report observations of medium-scale anisotropies (MSA) at energies above 10 TeV using the LHAASO-KM2A array. Our analysis identifies four regions of excess and four regions of deficit, each spanning angular scales of approximately ten degrees. Crucially, we detect significant energy-dependent shifts in the centroids of two excess regions: Region B and the newly identified Region D~\mathrm{\widetilde{D}}. We also characterize the energy evolution of the fractional relative intensity across both excess and deficit regions. These findings imply that the observed anisotropies are shaped by the specific realization of the local turbulent magnetic field within the cosmic ray scattering length. Such energy-dependent behaviors impose strict constraints on local turbulence models and cosmic ray propagation theories.

Evidence for particle acceleration approaching PeV energies in the W51 complex

The γγ-ray emission from the W51 complex is widely acknowledged to be attributed to the interaction between the cosmic rays (CRs) accelerated by the shock of supernova remnant (SNR) W51C and the dense molecular clouds in the adjacent star-forming region, W51B. However, the maximum acceleration capability of W51C for CRs remains elusive. Based on observations conducted with the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO), we report a significant detection of γγ rays emanating from the W51 complex, with energies from 2 TeV to 200 TeV. The LHAASO measurements, for the first time, extend the γγ-ray emission from the W51 complex beyond 100 TeV and reveal a significant spectrum bending at tens of TeV. By combining the ``π0π^0-decay bump" featured data from Fermi-LAT, the broadband γγ-ray spectrum of the W51 region can be well-characterized by a simple pp-collision model. The observed spectral bending feature suggests an exponential cutoff at ∼400\sim400~TeV or a power-law break at ∼200\sim200~TeV in the CR proton spectrum, most likely providing the first evidence of SNRs serving as CR accelerators approaching the PeV regime. Additionally, two young star clusters within W51B could also be theoretically viable to produce the most energetic γγ rays observed by LHAASO. Our findings strongly support the presence of extreme CR accelerators within the W51 complex and provide new insights into the origin of Galactic CRs.

Exploring Lorentz Invariance Violation from Ultra-high-energy Gamma Rays Observed by LHAASO

Recently the LHAASO Collaboration published the detection of 12 ultra-high-energy gamma-ray sources above 100 TeV, with the highest energy photon reaching 1.4 PeV. The first detection of PeV gamma rays from astrophysical sources may provide a very sensitive probe of the effect of the Lorentz invariance violation (LIV), which results in decay of high-energy gamma rays in the superluminal scenario and hence a sharp cutoff of the energy spectrum. Two highest energy sources are studied in this work. No signature of the existence of LIV is found in their energy spectra, and the lower limits on the LIV energy scale are derived. Our results show that the first-order LIV energy scale should be higher than about 10^5 times the Planck scale M_{pl} and that the second-order LIV scale is >10^{-3}M_{pl}. Both limits improve by at least one order of magnitude the previous results.

Extended Very-High-Energy Gamma-Ray Emission Surrounding PSR J0622 + 3749 Observed by LHAASO-KM2A

We report the discovery of an extended very-high-energy (VHE) gamma-ray source around the location of the middle-aged (207.8 kyr) pulsar PSR J0622+3749 with the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO). The source is detected with a significance of 8.2σ8.2σ for E>25E>25~TeV assuming a Gaussian template. The best-fit location is (R.A., Dec.)=(95∘ ⁣.47±0∘ ⁣.11, 37∘ ⁣.92±0∘ ⁣.09)=(95^{\circ}\!.47\pm0^{\circ}\!.11,\,37^{\circ}\!.92 \pm0^{\circ}\!.09), and the extension is 0∘ ⁣.40±0∘ ⁣.070^{\circ}\!.40\pm0^{\circ}\!.07. The energy spectrum can be described by a power-law spectrum with an index of −2.92±0.17stat±0.02sys{-2.92 \pm 0.17_{\rm stat} \pm 0.02_{\rm sys} }. No clear extended multi-wavelength counterpart of the LHAASO source has been found from the radio to sub-TeV bands. The LHAASO observations are consistent with the scenario that VHE electrons escaped from the pulsar, diffused in the interstellar medium, and scattered the interstellar radiation field. If interpreted as the pulsar halo scenario, the diffusion coefficient, inferred for electrons with median energies of ∼160\sim160~TeV, is consistent with those obtained from the extended halos around Geminga and Monogem and much smaller than that derived from cosmic ray secondaries. The LHAASO discovery of this source thus likely enriches the class of so-called pulsar halos and confirms that high-energy particles generally diffuse very slowly in the disturbed medium around pulsars.

LHAASO Detection of Ultra-High-Energy Gamma-Ray Emission toward the Giant Molecular Clouds

The γγ-ray from Giant molecular clouds (GMCs) is regarded as the most ideal tool to perform in-situ measurement of cosmic ray (CR) density and spectra in our Galaxy. We report the first detection of γγ-ray emissions in the very-high-energy (VHE) domain from the five nearby GMCs with a stacking analysis based on a 4.5-year γγ-ray observation with the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) experiment. The spectral energy distributions derived from the GMCs are consistent with the expected γγ-ray flux produced via CR interacting with the ISM in the energy interval 1 - 100  ~\rm TeV. In addition, we investigate the presence of the CR spectral `knee' by introducing a spectral break in the γγ-ray data. While no significant evidence for the CR knee is found, the current KM2A measurements from GMCs strongly favor a proton CR knee located above 0.9 ~\rm PeV, which is consistent with the latest measurement of the CR spectrum by ground-based experiments.

Measurement of attenuation length of the muon content in extensive air showers from 0.3 to 30 PeV with LHAASO

The attenuation length of the muon content in extensive air showers provides important information regarding the generation and development of air showers. This information can be used not only to improve the description of such showers but also to test fundamental models of hadronic interactions. Using data from the LHAASO-KM2A experiment, the development of the muon content in high-energy air showers was studied. The attenuation length of muon content in the air showers was measured from experimental data in the energy range from 0.3 to 30 PeV using the constant intensity cut method. By comparing the attenuation length of the muon content with predictions from high-energy hadronic interaction models (QGSJET-II-04, SIBYLL 2.3d, and EPOS-LHC), it is evident that LHAASO results are significantly shorter than those predicted by the first two models (QGSJET-II-04 and SIBYLL 2.3d) but relatively close to those predicted by the third model (EPOS-LHC). Thus, the LHAASO data favor the EPOS-LHC model over the other two models. The three interaction models confirmed an increasing trend in the attenuation length as the cosmic-ray energy increases.

Measurement of Very-high-energy Diffuse Gamma-ray Emissions from the Galactic Plane with LHAASO-WCDA

The diffuse Galactic gamma-ray emission is a very important tool used to study the propagation and interaction of cosmic rays in the Milky Way. In this work, we report the measurements of the diffuse emission from the Galactic plane, covering Galactic longitudes from 15∘15^{\circ} to 235∘235^{\circ} and latitudes from −5∘-5^{\circ} to +5∘+5^{\circ}, in an energy range of 1 TeV to 25 TeV, with the Water Cherenkov Detector Array (WCDA) of the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO). After masking the sky regions of known sources, the diffuse emission is detected with 24.6σ24.6σ and 9.1σ9.1σ significance in the inner Galactic plane and outer Galactic plane, respectively. The WCDA spectra in both regions can be well described by a power-law function, with spectral indices of −2.67±0.05stat-2.67\pm0.05_{\rm stat} in the inner region and −2.83±0.19stat-2.83\pm0.19_{\rm stat} in the outer region, respectively. Combined with the Square Kilometer Array (KM2A) measurements at higher energies, a clear softening of the spectrum is found in the inner region, with change of spectral indices by ∼0.5\sim0.5 at a break energy around 3030 TeV. The fluxes of the diffuse emission are higher by a factor of 1.5−2.71.5-2.7 than the model prediction assuming local CR spectra and the gas column density, which are consistent with those measured by the KM2A. Along Galactic longitude, the spatial distribution of the diffuse emission shows deviation from that of the gas column density. The spectral shape of the diffuse emission are possibly variation in different longitude region. The WCDA measurements bridge the gap between the low-energy measurements by space detectors and the ultra-high-energy observations by LHAASO-KM2A and other experiments. These results suggest that improved modeling of the wide-band diffuse emission is required.

Transient Large-Scale Anisotropy in TeV Cosmic Rays due to an Interplanetary Coronal Mass Ejection

Large- or medium-scale cosmic ray anisotropy at TeV energies has not previously been confirmed to vary with time. Transient anisotropy changes have been observed below 150 GeV, especially near the passage of an interplanetary shock and coronal mass ejection containing a magnetic flux rope ejected by a solar storm, which can trigger a geomagnetic storm with practical consequences. In such events, cosmic rays provide remote sensing of the magnetic field properties. Here we report the observation of transient large-scale anisotropy in TeV cosmic ray ions using data from the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO). We analyze hourly skymaps of the transient cosmic ray intensity excess or deficit, the gradient of which indicates the direction and magnitude of transient large-scale anisotropy across the field of view. We observe enhanced anisotropy above typical hourly fluctuations with >>5σσ significance during some hours of November 4, 2021, in separate data sets for four primary cosmic ray energy ranges of median energy from EE=0.7 to 3.1 TeV. The gradient varies with energy as EγE^γ, where γ≈−0.5γ\approx-0.5. At a median energy ≤\leq1.0 TeV, this gradient corresponds to a dipole anisotropy of at least 1\%, or possibly a weaker anisotropy of higher order. This new type of observation opens the opportunity to study interplanetary magnetic structures using air shower arrays around the world, complementing existing in situ and remote measurements of plasma properties.

Observation of the γγ-ray Emission from W43 with LHAASO

In this paper, we report the detection of the very-high-energy (VHE, 100 GeV<E<100 TeV 100{\rm\ GeV} < E < 100{\rm\ TeV} ) and ultra-high-energy (UHE, E>100 TeVE > 100\rm\ TeV) γγ-ray emissions from the direction of the young star-forming region W43, observed by the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observation (LHAASO). The extended γγ-ray source was detected with a significance of ∼16 σ{\sim}16\,σ by KM2A and ∼17 σ{\sim}17\,σ by WCDA, respectively. The angular extension of this γγ-ray source is about 0.5 degrees, corresponding to a physical size of about 50 pc. We discuss the origin of the γγ-ray emission and possible cosmic ray acceleration in the W43 region using multi-wavelength data. Our findings suggest that W43 is likely another young star cluster capable of accelerating cosmic rays (CRs) to at least several hundred TeV.

Study of Ultra-High-Energy Gamma-Ray Source 1LHAASO J0056+6346u and Its Possible Origins

We report a dedicated study of the newly discovered extended UHE γγ-ray source 1LHAASO J0056+6346u. Analyzing 979 days of LHAASO-WCDA data and 1389 days of LHAASO-KM2A data, we observed a significant excess of γγ-ray events with both WCDA and KM2A. Assuming a point power-law source with a fixed spectral index, the significance maps reveal excesses of ∼12.65 σ{\sim}12.65\,σ, ∼22.18 σ{\sim}22.18\,σ, and ∼10.24 σ{\sim}10.24\,σ in the energy ranges of 1--25 TeV, 25--100 TeV, and >100> 100 TeV, respectively. We use a 3D likelihood algorithm to derive the morphological and spectral parameters, and the source is detected with significances of 12.65 σ12.65\,σ by WCDA and 25.27 σ25.27\,σ by KM2A. The best-fit positions derived from WCDA and KM2A data are (R.A. = 13.96∘±0.09∘13.96^\circ\pm0.09^\circ, Decl. = 63.92∘±0.05∘63.92^\circ\pm0.05^\circ) and (R.A. = 14.00∘±0.05∘14.00^\circ\pm0.05^\circ, Decl. = 63.79∘±0.02∘63.79^\circ\pm0.02^\circ), respectively. The angular size (r39r_{39}) of 1LHAASO J0056+6346u is 0.34∘±0.04∘0.34^\circ\pm0.04^\circ at 1--25 TeV and 0.24∘±0.02∘0.24^\circ\pm0.02^\circ at >25> 25 TeV. The differential flux of this UHE γγ-ray source can be described by an exponential cutoff power-law function: (2.67±0.25)×10−15(E/20 TeV)−1.97±0.10e−E/(55.1±7.2) TeV TeV−1 cm−2 s−1(2.67\pm0.25) \times 10^{-15} (E/20\,\text{TeV})^{-1.97\pm0.10} e^{-E/(55.1\pm7.2)\,\text{TeV}} \,\text{TeV}^{-1}\,\text{cm}^{-2}\,\text{s}^{-1}. To explore potential sources of γγ-ray emission, we investigated the gas distribution around 1LHAASO J0056+6346u. 1LHAASO J0056+6346u is likely to be a TeV PWN powered by an unknown pulsar, which would naturally explain both its spatial and spectral properties. Another explanation is that this UHE γγ-ray source might be associated with gas content illuminated by a nearby CR accelerator, possibly the SNR candidate G124.0+1.4.

Investigation of the ΔI=1/2ΔI = 1/2 rule and test of CP violation through the measurement of decay asymmetry parameters in Ξ−Ξ^- decays

Using (10087±44)×106(10087\pm44)\times 10^{6} J/ψJ/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector, numerous Ξ−Ξ^- and ΛΛ decay asymmetry parameters are simultaneously determined from the process J/ψ→Ξ−Ξˉ+→Λ(pπ−)π−Λˉ(nˉπ0)π+J/ψ\to Ξ^- \barΞ^+ \to Λ(pπ^-) π^- \barΛ(\bar{n} π^0) π^+ and its charge-conjugate channel. The precisions of α0α_0 for Λ→nπ0Λ\to nπ^0 and αˉ0\barα_0 for Λˉ→nˉπ0\barΛ \to \bar{n}π^0 compared to world averages are improved by factors of 4 and 1.7, respectively. The ratio of decay asymmetry parameters of Λ→nπ0Λ\to nπ^0 to that of Λ→pπ−Λ\to pπ^-, ⟨α0⟩/⟨αΛ−⟩\langle α_0 \rangle/ \langle α_{Λ-} \rangle , is determined to be 0.873±0.012−0.010+0.011 0.873 \pm 0.012^{+0.011}_{-0.010}, where the first and the second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The ratio is smaller than unity more than 5σ5σ, which signifies the existence of the ΔI=3/2ΔI = 3/2 transition in ΛΛ for the first time. Beside, we test for CP violation in Ξ−→Λπ−Ξ^- \to Λπ^- and in Λ→nπ0Λ\to n π^{0} with the best precision to date.

Search for hidden-charm tetraquark with strangeness in e+e−→K+Ds∗−D∗0+c.c.e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow K^+ D_{s}^{*-} D^{*0}+c.c.

We report a search for a heavier partner of the recently observed Zcs(3985)−Z_{cs}(3985)^{-} state, denoted as Zcs′−Z_{cs}^{\prime -}, in the process e+e−→K+Ds∗−D∗0+c.c.e^{+} e^{-}\rightarrow K^{+}D_{s}^{*-}D^{* 0}+c.c., based on e+e−e^+e^- collision data collected at the center-of-mass energies of s=4.661\sqrt{s}=4.661, 4.682 and 4.699 GeV with the BESIII detector. The Zcs′−Z_{cs}^{\prime -} is of interest as it is expected to be a candidate for a hidden-charm and open-strange tetraquark. A partial-reconstruction technique is used to isolate K+K^+ recoil-mass spectra, which are probed for a potential contribution from Zcs′−→Ds∗−D∗0Z_{cs}^{\prime -}\to D_{s}^{*-}D^{* 0} (c.c.c.c.). We find an excess of Zcs′−→Ds∗−D∗0Z_{cs}^{\prime -}\rightarrow D_{s}^{*-}D^{*0} (c.c.c.c.) candidates with a significance of 2.1σ2.1σ, after considering systematic uncertainties, at a mass of (4123.5±0.7stat.±4.7syst.) MeV/c2(4123.5\pm0.7_\mathrm{stat.}\pm4.7_\mathrm{syst.})\ \mathrm{MeV}/c^{2}. As the data set is limited in size, the upper limits are evaluated at the 90\% confidence level on the product of the Born cross sections (σBornσ^{\mathrm{Born}}) and the branching fraction (B\mathcal{B}) of Zcs′−→Ds∗−D∗0Z_{cs}^{\prime-}\rightarrow D_{s}^{*-}D^{* 0}, under different assumptions of the Zcs′−Z_{cs}^{\prime -} mass from 4.120 to 4.140 MeV and of the width from 10 to 50 MeV at the three center-of-mass energies. The upper limits of σBorn⋅Bσ^{\rm Born}\cdot\mathcal{B} are found to be at the level of O(1)\mathcal{O}(1) pb at each energy. Larger data samples are needed to confirm the Zcs′−Z_{cs}^{\prime -} state and clarify its nature in the coming years.

Amplitude analysis and branching fraction measurement of the decay Ds+→K+π+π−D_{s}^{+} \to K^+π^+π^-

Using 6.326.32 fb−1^{-1} of e+e−e^{+}e^{-} collision data collected at the center-of-mass energies between 4.178 and 4.226 GeV with the BESIII detector, we perform an amplitude analysis of the decay Ds+→K+π+π−D^+_s \to K^+π^+π^- and determine the amplitudes of the various intermediate states. The absolute branching fraction of Ds+→K+π+π−D^+_s\to K^+π^+π^- is measured to be (6.11±0.18stat.±0.11syst.)×10−36.11\pm0.18_{\rm stat.}\pm0.11_{\rm syst.})\times 10^{-3}. The branching fractions of the dominant intermediate processes Ds+→K+ρ0,ρ0→π+π−D_{s}^{+} \to K^+ρ^0, ρ^0 \to π^+π^- and Ds+→K∗(892)0π+,K∗(892)0→K+π−D_{s}^{+} \to K^*(892)^0π^+, K^*(892)^0 \to K^+π^- are determined to be (1.96±0.19stat.±0.23syst.)×10−3(1.96\pm0.19_{\rm stat.}\pm0.23_{\rm syst.})\times 10^{-3} and (1.85±0.12stat.±0.13syst.)×10−3(1.85\pm0.12_{\rm stat.}\pm0.13_{\rm syst.})\times 10^{-3}, respectively. The intermediate resonances f0(500)f_0(500), f0(980)f_0(980), and f0(1370)f_0(1370) are observed for the first time in this channel.

Amplitude analysis and branching-fraction measurement of Ds+→π+π0η′D_{s}^{+} \to π^{+}π^{0}η^{\prime}

Using data collected with the BESIII detector in e+e−e^+e^- collisions at center-of-mass energies between 4.178 and 4.226 GeV and corresponding to 6.32~fb−1^{-1} of integrated luminosity, we report the amplitude analysis and branching-fraction measurement of the Ds+→π+π0η′D^+_s \to π^+ π^0 η^{\prime} decay. We find that the dominant intermediate process is Ds+→ρ+η′D^+_s \toρ^+ η^{\prime} and the significances of other resonant and nonresonant processes are all less than 3σ3σ. The upper limits on the branching fractions of SS-wave and PP-wave nonresonant components are set to 0.10%0.10\% and 0.74%0.74\% at the 90%90\% confidence level, respectively. In addition, the branching fraction of the Ds+→π+π0η′D^+_s \to π^+ π^0 η^{\prime} decay is measured to be (6.15±0.25(stat.)±0.18(syst.))%(6.15\pm0.25(\rm stat.)\pm0.18(\rm syst.))\%, which receives significant contribution only from Ds+→ρ+η′D_s^+\to ρ^+η^{\prime} according to the amplitude analysis.

Cross section measurements of the processes e+e−→ωπ0e^+e^- \rightarrow ωπ^{0} and ωηωη at center-of-mass energies between 3.773 and 4.701 GeV

The Born cross sections of the processes e+e−→ωπ0e^+e^- \rightarrow ωπ^{0} and e+e−→ωηe^+e^- \rightarrow ωη are measured at center-of-mass energies between 3.773 and 4.701 GeV using a total integrated luminosity of 22.7 fb−1^{-1} collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider. A simple s−ns^{-n} dependence for the continuum process can describe the measured Born cross sections. No significant contributions from the ψ(4160)ψ(4160), Y(4230)Y(4230), Y(4360)Y(4360), ψ(4415)ψ(4415), Y(4660)Y(4660) resonances are found, which indicates relative small branching fractions for these resonances into the ωπ0ωπ^{0} and ωηωη final states.

First measurement of high-energy reactor antineutrinos at Daya Bay

This Letter reports the first measurement of high-energy reactor antineutrinos at Daya Bay, with nearly 9000 inverse beta decay candidates in the prompt energy region of 8-12~MeV observed over 1958 days of data collection. A multivariate analysis is used to separate 2500 signal events from background statistically. The hypothesis of no reactor antineutrinos with neutrino energy above 10~MeV is rejected with a significance of 6.2 standard deviations. A 29\% antineutrino flux deficit in the prompt energy region of 8-11~MeV is observed compared to a recent model prediction. We provide the unfolded antineutrino spectrum above 7 MeV as a data-based reference for other experiments. This result provides the first direct observation of the production of antineutrinos from several high-QβQ_β isotopes in commercial reactors.

First Observation of the Semileptonic Decay Λc+→pK−e+νeΛ_c^+\rightarrow pK^- e^+ν_e

Using 4.5 fb−14.5~\mathrm{fb}^{-1} of e+e−e^+e^- annihilation data samples collected at the center-of-mass energies ranging from 4.600~GeV to 4.699~GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, a first study of the semileptonic decays Λc+→pK−e+νeΛ_c^+\rightarrow pK^-e^+ν_e, Λc+→Λ(1520)e+νeΛ_c^+\rightarrow Λ(1520) e^+ν_e and Λc+→Λ(1405)e+νeΛ_c^+\rightarrow Λ(1405) e^+ν_e is performed. The Λc+→pK−e+νeΛ_c^+\rightarrow pK^-e^+ν_e decay is observed with a significance of 8.2σ8.2σ and the branching fraction is measured to be B(Λc+→pK−e+νe)=(0.88±0.17stat.±0.07syst.)×10−3\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\rightarrow pK^- e^+ν_e)=(0.88\pm0.17_{\rm stat.}\pm0.07_{\rm syst.})\times 10^{-3}. We also report evidence of Λc+→Λ(1520)e+νeΛ_c^+\rightarrow Λ(1520)e^+ν_e and Λc+→Λ(1405)e+νeΛ_c^+\rightarrow Λ(1405)e^+ν_e with significances of 3.3σ3.3σ and 3.2σ3.2σ, respectively, and measure B(Λc+→Λ(1520)e+νe)=(1.02±0.52stat.±0.11syst.)×10−3\mathcal B(Λ^+_c\rightarrow Λ(1520)e^+ν_e)=(1.02\pm0.52_{\rm stat.}\pm0.11_{\rm syst.})\times10^{-3} and B(Λc+→Λ(1405)[→pK−]e+νe)=(0.42±0.19stat.±0.04syst.)×10−3\mathcal B(Λ^+_c\rightarrow Λ(1405)[\rightarrow pK^-]e^+ν_e)=(0.42\pm0.19_{\rm stat.}\pm0.04_{\rm syst.})\times10^{-3}. Combining these with the inclusive semileptonic Λc+Λ_c^+ branching fraction measured by BESIII, the relative fraction is determined to be [B(Λc+→pK−e+νe)/B(Λc+→Xe+νe)]=(2.1±0.4stat.±0.2syst.)%[\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\rightarrow pK^-e^+ν_e)/\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\rightarrow X e^+ν_e)]=(2.1\pm0.4_{\rm stat.}\pm0.2_{\rm syst.})\%, which provides a clear confirmation that semileptonic Λc+Λ_c^+ decays are not saturated by the Λℓ+νℓΛ\ell^+ν_{\ell} final state.

Joint Determination of Reactor Antineutrino Spectra from 235^{235}U and 239^{239}Pu Fission by Daya Bay and PROSPECT

A joint determination of the reactor antineutrino spectra resulting from the fission of 235^{235}U and 239^{239}Pu has been carried out by the Daya Bay and PROSPECT collaborations. This Letter reports the level of consistency of 235^{235}U spectrum measurements from the two experiments and presents new results from a joint analysis of both data sets. The measurements are found to be consistent. The combined analysis reduces the degeneracy between the dominant 235^{235}U and 239^{239}Pu isotopes and improves the uncertainty of the 235^{235}U spectral shape to about 3\%. The 235{}^{235}U and 239^{239}Pu antineutrino energy spectra are unfolded from the jointly deconvolved reactor spectra using the Wiener-SVD unfolding method, providing a data-based reference for other reactor antineutrino experiments and other applications. This is the first measurement of the 235^{235}U and 239^{239}Pu spectra based on the combination of experiments at low- and highly enriched uranium reactors.

Measurement of e+e−→K+K−π0e^{+}e^{-} \to K^{+}K^{-}π^{0} cross section and observation of a resonant structure

Based on e+e−e^{+}e^{-} collision data collected by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at center-of-mass energies from 2.000 to 3.080 GeV, a partial-wave analysis is performed for the process e+e−→K+K−π0e^{+}e^{-} \to K^{+}K^{-}π^{0}. The Born cross section of the process e+e−→K+K−π0e^{+}e^{-} \to K^{+}K^{-}π^{0} and its subprocesses e+e−→ϕπ0e^{+}e^{-} \to ϕπ^{0}, K∗(892)KK^{*}(892)K and K2∗(1430)KK^{*}_{2}(1430)K are measured. The results for e+e−→K+K−π0e^{+}e^{-} \to K^{+}K^{-}π^{0} and ϕπ0ϕπ^{0} are consistent with the BaBar measurements and with improved precision. By analyzing the cross section, of the subprocesses e+e−→e^{+}e^{-} \to K∗(892)KK^{*}(892)K and K2∗(1430)KK^{*}_{2}(1430)K, a structure with mass MRM_R = (2208 ±\pm 19 ±\pm 24) MeV/c2c^{2} and width ΓRΓ_R = (168 ±\pm 24 ±\pm 39) MeV is observed with a combined statistical significance of 7.6σσ. The measured resonance parameters suggest it can be identified as the ϕ(2170)ϕ(2170), thus the results provide valuable input to understand the internal nature of this state.

Measurement of ΛΛ baryon polarization in e+e−→ΛΛˉe^+e^-\rightarrowΛ\barΛ at s=3.773\sqrt{s} = 3.773 GeV

Using a data sample of ψ(3770)ψ(3770) events collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.9 fb−1^{-1}, we report a measurement of ΛΛ spin polarization in e+e−→ΛΛˉe^+e^-\rightarrowΛ\barΛ at s=3.773\sqrt{s} = 3.773 GeV. The significance of polarization is found to be 2σσ including the systematic uncertainty, which implies a zero phase between the transition amplitudes of the ΛΛˉΛ\barΛ helicity states. This phase can be interpreted in terms of psionic form factors, and is determined to be ΔΦΨΔΦ^Ψ = ΦEΨ−ΦMΨΦ^Ψ_{E} - Φ^Ψ_{M} = (71−46+66(71^{+66}_{-46} ±\pm 5)∘^{\circ}. Similarly, the ratio between the form factors is found to be RψR^ψ = ∣GEΨ/GMΨ∣|G^Ψ_{E}/G^Ψ_{M}| = 0.48−0.07+0.120.48^{+0.12}_{-0.07} ±\pm 0.04. The first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic.

Measurement of the D→K−π+π+π−D \to K^-π^+π^+π^- and D→K−π+π0D \to K^-π^+π^0 coherence factors and average strong-phase differences in quantum-correlated DDˉ{D\bar{D}} decays

The decays D→K−π+π+π−D\to K^-π^+π^+π^- and D→K−π+π0D \to K^-π^+π^0 are studied in a sample of quantum-correlated DDˉD\bar{D} pairs produced through the process e+e−→ψ(3770)→DDˉe^+e^- \to ψ(3770) \to D\bar{D}, exploiting a data set collected by the BESIII experiment that corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 2.93 fb−1^{-1}. Here DD indicates a quantum superposition of a D0D^0 and a Dˉ0\bar{D}^0 meson. By reconstructing one neutral charm meson in a signal decay, and the other in the same or a different final state, observables are measured that contain information on the coherence factors and average strong-phase differences of each of the signal modes. These parameters are critical inputs in the measurement of the angle γγ of the Unitarity Triangle in B−→DK−B^- \to DK^- decays at the LHCb and Belle II experiments. The coherence factors are determined to be RK3π=0.52−0.10+0.12R_{K3π}=0.52^{+0.12}_{-0.10} and RKππ0=0.78±0.04R_{Kππ^0}=0.78 \pm 0.04, with values for the average strong-phase differences that are δDK3π=(167−19+31)∘δ_D^{K3π}=\left(167^{+31}_{-19}\right)^\circ and δDKππ0=(196−15+14)∘δ_D^{Kππ^0}=\left(196^{+14}_{-15}\right)^\circ, where the uncertainties include both statistical and systematic contributions. The analysis is re-performed in four bins of the phase-space of the D→K−π+π+π−D \to K^-π^+π^+π^- to yield results that will allow for a more sensitive measurement of γγ with this mode, to which the BESIII inputs will contribute an uncertainty of around 6∘^\circ.

Using 2.93 fb−12.93\,\rm fb^{-1} of e+e−e^+e^- collision data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773\,GeV with the BESIII detector, we present a measurement of the branching fraction of the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed (DCS) decay D0→K+π−π0D^0\to K^+π^-π^0 and a search for the DCS decay D0→K+π−π0π0D^0\to K^+π^-π^0π^0. The branching fraction of D0→K+π−π0D^0\to K^+π^-π^0 is determined to be [3.13−0.56+0.60(stat)±0.09(syst)]×10−4[3.13^{+0.60}_{-0.56}({\rm stat}) \pm 0.09({\rm syst})] \times 10^{-4}. No signal is observed for D0→K+π−π0π0D^0\to K^+π^-π^0π^0 and an upper limit of 3.6×10−43.6 \times 10^{-4} is set on the branching fraction at the 90\% C.L. By a simultaneous fit to the measured, center-of-mass energy dependent cross sections of the two processes, the combined quantities ΓeeΓee/ΓtotΓ_{ee} Γ_{ee} / Γ_{\rm tot} and ΓeeΓμμ/ΓtotΓ_{ee} Γ_{μμ} / Γ_{\rm tot} are determined to be (0.346±0.0090.346 \pm 0.009) and (0.335±0.0060.335 \pm 0.006) keV, respectively, where ΓeeΓ_{ee}, ΓμμΓ_{μμ}, and ΓtotΓ_{\rm tot} are the electronic, muonic, and total decay widths of the J/ψJ/ψ resonance, respectively. Using the resultant ΓeeΓμμ/ΓtotΓ_{ee} Γ_{μμ} / Γ_{\rm tot} and ΓeeΓee/ΓtotΓ_{ee} Γ_{ee} / Γ_{\rm tot}, the ratio Γee/ΓμμΓ_{ee} / Γ_{μμ} is calculated to be 1.031±0.0151.031 \pm 0.015, which is consistent with the expectation of lepton universality within about two standard deviations. Assuming lepton universality and using the branching fraction of the J/ψJ/ψ leptonic decay measured by BESIII in 2013, ΓtotΓ_{\rm tot} and ΓllΓ_{ll} are determined to be (93.0±2.193.0 \pm 2.1) and (5.56±0.115.56 \pm 0.11) keV, respectively, where ΓllΓ_{ll} is the average leptonic decay width of the J/ψJ/ψ resonance.

Observation of ηc(2S)→3(π+π−)η_c(2S) \to 3(π^+π^-) and measurements of χcJ→3(π+π−)χ_{cJ} \to 3(π^+π^-) in ψ(3686)ψ(3686) radiative transitions

The hadronic decay ηc(2S)→3(π+π−)η_c(2S) \to 3(π^+π^-) is observed with a statistical significance of 9.3 standard deviations using (448.1±2.9)×106(448.1\pm2.9)\times10^6 ψ(3686)ψ(3686) events collected by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The measured mass and width of ηc(2S)η_c(2S) are (3643.4±2.3(stat.)±4.4(syst.))(3643.4 \pm 2.3 (\rm stat.) \pm 4.4 (\rm syst.)) MeV/c2c^2 and (19.8±3.9(stat.)±3.1(syst.))(19.8 \pm 3.9 (\rm stat.) \pm 3.1 (\rm syst.)) MeV, respectively, which are consistent with the world average values within two standard deviations. The product branching fraction B[ψ(3686)→γηc(2S)]×B[ηc(2S)→3(π+π−)]\mathcal{B}[ψ(3686)\to γη_c(2S)]\times\mathcal{B}[η_c(2S)\to3(π^+π^-)] is measured to be (9.2±1.0(stat.)±0.9(syst.))×10−6(9.2 \pm 1.0 (\rm stat.) \pm 0.9 (\rm syst.))\times10^{-6}. Using B[ψ(3686)→γηc(2S)]=(7.0−2.5+3.4)×10−4\mathcal{B}[ψ(3686)\to γη_c(2S)]=(7.0^{+3.4}_{-2.5})\times10^{-4}, we obtain B[ηc(2S)→3(π+π−)]=(1.31±0.15(stat.)±0.13(syst.)(−0.47+0.64)(extr))×10−2\mathcal{B}[η_c(2S) \to 3(π^+π^-)] = (1.31 \pm 0.15 (\rm stat.) \pm 0.13 (\rm syst.)(^{+0.64}_{-0.47}) (\rm extr))\times10^{-2}, where the third uncertainty is from B[ψ(3686)→γηc(2S)]\mathcal{B}[ψ(3686) \to γη_c(2S)]. We also measure the χcJ→3(π+π−)χ_{cJ} \to 3(π^+π^-) (J=0,1,2J=0, 1, 2) decays via ψ(3686)→γχcJψ(3686) \to γχ_{cJ} transitions. Observation of resonance structures in e+e−→π+π−ψ2(3823)e^+e^-\to π^+π^-ψ_2(3823) and mass measurement of ψ2(3823)ψ_2(3823)

Using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 11.3 fb−1\rm fb^{-1} collected at center-of-mass energies from 4.234.23 to 4.704.70 GeV with the BESIII detector, we measure the product of the e+e−→π+π−ψ2(3823)e^+e^-\to π^+π^-ψ_2(3823) cross section and the branching fraction B[ψ2(3823)→γχc1]\mathcal{B}[ψ_2(3823)\to γχ_{c1}]. For the first time, resonance structure is observed in the cross section line shape of e+e−→π+π−ψ2(3823)e^+e^-\to π^+π^-ψ_2(3823) with significances exceeding 5σ5σ. A fit to data with two coherent Breit-Wigner resonances modeling the s\sqrt{s}-dependent cross section yields M(R1)=4406.9±17.2±4.5M(R_1)=4406.9\pm 17.2\pm 4.5 MeV/c2c^2, Γ(R1)=128.1±37.2±2.3Γ(R_1)=128.1\pm 37.2\pm 2.3 MeV, and M(R2)=4647.9±8.6±0.8M(R_2)=4647.9\pm 8.6\pm 0.8 MeV/c2c^2, Γ(R2)=33.1±18.6±4.1Γ(R_2)=33.1\pm 18.6\pm 4.1 MeV. Though weakly disfavored by the data, a single resonance with M(R)=4417.5±26.2±3.5M(R)=4417.5\pm26.2\pm3.5 MeV/c2c^2, Γ(R)=245±48±13Γ(R)=245\pm48\pm13 MeV is also possible to interpret data. This observation deepens our understanding of the nature of the vector charmoniumlike states. The mass of the ψ2(3823)ψ_2(3823) state is measured as (3823.12±0.43±0.13)(3823.12\pm 0.43\pm 0.13) MeV/c2c^2, which is the most precise measurement to date.

The ratio of the branching fraction of D∗0→D0e+e−D^{\ast 0}\to D^{0}e^{+}e^{-} to that of D∗0→D0γD^{\ast 0}\to D^{0} γ is measured to be (11.08±0.76±0.49)×10−3(11.08\pm0.76\pm0.49)\times 10^{-3}. By using the world average value of the branching fraction of D∗0→D0γD^{\ast 0}\to D^{0} γ, the branching fraction of D∗0→D0e+e−D^{\ast 0}\to D^{0}e^{+}e^{-} is determined to be (3.91±0.27±0.17±0.10)×10−3(3.91\pm0.27\pm0.17\pm0.10)\times 10^{-3}, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third external branching fractions.

Observation of the Singly Cabibbo-Suppressed Decay Λc+→nπ+Λ_{c}^{+} \to nπ^{+}

The singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay Λc+→nπ+Λ_{c}^{+} \to nπ^{+} is observed for the first time with a statistical significance of 7.3σ7.3σ by using 3.9 fb−1\mathrm{fb}^{-1} of e+e−e^{+}e^{-} collision data collected at center-of-mass energies between 4.612 and 4.699 GeV with the BESIII detector at BEPCII. The branching fraction of Λc+→nπ+Λ_{c}^{+} \to nπ^{+} is measured to be (6.6±1.2stat±0.4syst)×10−4(6.6\pm1.2_{\rm stat}\pm0.4_{\rm syst})\times 10^{-4}. By taking the upper limit of branching fractions of Λc+→pπ0Λ_{c}^{+} \to pπ^0 from the Belle experiment, the ratio of branching fractions between Λc+→nπ+Λ_{c}^{+} \to nπ^{+} and Λc+→pπ0Λ_{c}^{+} \to pπ^0 is calculated to be larger than 7.2 at the 90% confidence level, which disagrees with the current predictions of available phenomenological models. In addition, the branching fractions of the Cabibbo-favored decays Λc+→Λπ+Λ_{c}^{+} \to Λπ^{+} and Λc+→Σ0π+Λ_{c}^{+} \to Σ^{0}π^{+} are measured to be (1.31±0.08stat±0.05syst)×10−2(1.31\pm0.08_{\rm stat}\pm0.05_{\rm syst})\times 10^{-2} and (1.22±0.08stat±0.07syst)×10−2(1.22\pm0.08_{\rm stat}\pm0.07_{\rm syst})\times 10^{-2}, respectively, which are consistent with previous results.

We find significant ηcη_{\rm c} production in e+e−→ηcπ+π−π0e^+e^-\rightarrow η_{\rm c}π^+ π^-π^0 at s\sqrt{s} of 4.23 GeV and 4.26 GeV and observe a significant energy-dependent Born cross section that we measure to be consistent with the production via the intermediate Y(4260)Y(4260) resonance. In addition, we perform a search for a charmonium-like ZcZ_{\rm c} state close to the DDˉD\bar{D} threshold that decays to ηcπη_{\rm c}π, involving ground state charmonium, and observe no signal. Corresponding upper limits on the cross section of ηcη_{\rm c} and ZcZ_{\rm c} production are provided, where the yields are not found to be significant.

By analyzing an e+e−e^+e^- annihilation data sample with an integrated luminosity of 2.93 fb−12.93\ \rm fb^{-1} taken at the center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector, we determine the absolute branching fractions of the hadronic decays D0→K−π+ωD^0\to K^-π^+ω, D0→KS0π0ωD^0\to K^0_Sπ^0ω, and D+→KS0π+ωD^+\to K^0_Sπ^+ω to be (3.392±0.044stat±0.085syst)%(3.392 \pm 0.044_{\rm stat} \pm 0.085_{\rm syst})\%, (0.848±0.046stat±0.031syst)%(0.848 \pm 0.046_{\rm stat} \pm 0.031_{\rm syst})\%, and (0.707±0.041stat±0.029syst)%(0.707 \pm 0.041_{\rm stat} \pm 0.029_{\rm syst})\%, respectively. The accuracy of the branching fraction measurement of the decay D0→K−π+ωD^0\to K^-π^+ω is improved by a factor of seven compared to the world average value. Weak phases and CP-symmetry tests in sequential decays of entangled double-strange baryons

Using a sample of 1.31×1091.31\times10^9 J/ψJ/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector at the electron-positron collider BEPCII, we analyse the full J/ψ→J/ψ\to Ξ−Ξ‾+Ξ^-\overlineΞ^+, Ξ−→Λπ−Ξ^-\to Λπ^-, Λ→pπ−Λ\to pπ^-, Ξ‾+→Λ‾π+\overlineΞ^+\to\overlineΛπ^+, Λ‾→p‾π+\overlineΛ\to\overline{p}π^+ decay chain. A new method, exploiting the fact that the Ξ−Ξ‾+Ξ^-\overlineΞ^+ pair is entangled and sequentially decaying, and where the complete decay chains are reconstructed, is applied for the first time. This enables precision measurements of the decay parameters for the Ξ−→Λπ−Ξ^-\toΛπ^- decay (αΞα_Ξ, ϕΞϕ_Ξ) as well as the Ξ‾+→Λ‾π+\overlineΞ^+\to\overlineΛπ^+ decay (α‾Ξ\overlineα_Ξ, ϕ‾Ξ\overlineϕ_Ξ). From the decay parameters, two independent CP tests were performed, quantified by the observables ACPΞA_{\rm CP}^Ξ and ΔϕΞΔϕ_Ξ. Our results, ACPΞA_{\rm CP}^Ξ = (6.0±13.4±5.6)×10−3(6.0\pm13.4\pm5.6)\times10^{-3} and ΔϕΞ=(−4.8±13.7±2.9)×10−3 radΔϕ_Ξ= (-4.8\pm13.7\pm2.9)\times10^{-3}~{\rm rad}, are consistent with CP symmetry. Furthermore, our method enables a separation of strong and weak Ξ→ΛπΞ\toΛπ decay amplitudes. This results in the first direct measurement of the weak phase difference for any baryon decay. The result is found to be (ξP−ξS)=(1.2±3.4±0.8)×10−2(ξ_{P} - ξ_{S}) = (1.2\pm3.4\pm0.8)\times10^{-2} rad and is one of the most precise tests of CP symmetry for strange baryons. The strong phase difference is measured to be (δP−δS)=(−4.0±3.3±1.7)×10−2(δ_P - δ_S) = (-4.0\pm3.3\pm1.7)\times10^{-2} rad. In addition, we provide an independent measurement of the recently debated ΛΛ decay parameter, αΛ=0.757±0.011±0.008α_Λ = 0.757 \pm 0.011 \pm 0.008 . The ΛΛ‾Λ\overlineΛ asymmetry is measured to be ACPΛ=(−3.7±11.7±9.0)×10−3A_{\rm CP}^Λ = (-3.7\pm11.7\pm9.0)\times10^{-3}.

Improved Constraints on Sterile Neutrino Mixing from Disappearance Searches in the MINOS, MINOS+, Daya Bay, and Bugey-3 Experiments

Searches for electron antineutrino, muon neutrino, and muon antineutrino disappearance driven by sterile neutrino mixing have been carried out by the Daya Bay and MINOS+ collaborations. This Letter presents the combined results of these searches, along with exclusion results from the Bugey-3 reactor experiment, framed in a minimally extended four-neutrino scenario. Significantly improved constraints on the θμeθ_{μe} mixing angle are derived that constitute the most stringent limits to date over five orders of magnitude in the sterile mass-squared splitting Δm412Δm^2_{41}, excluding the 90% C.L. sterile-neutrino parameter space allowed by the LSND and MiniBooNE observations at 90% CLs_s for Δm412<5 Δm^2_{41}<5\,eV2^2.Furthermore, the LSND and MiniBooNE 99% C.L. allowed regions are excluded at 99% CLs_s for Δm412Δm^2_{41} << 1.2 eV2^2.

Optimization of the JUNO liquid scintillator composition using a Daya Bay antineutrino detector

To maximize the light yield of the liquid scintillator (LS) for the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO), a 20 t LS sample was produced in a pilot plant at Daya Bay. The optical properties of the new LS in various compositions were studied by replacing the gadolinium-loaded LS in one antineutrino detector. The concentrations of the fluor, PPO, and the wavelength shifter, bis-MSB, were increased in 12 steps from 0.5 g/L and <0.01 mg/L to 4 g/L and 13 mg/L, respectively. The numbers of total detected photoelectrons suggest that, with the optically purified solvent, the bis-MSB concentration does not need to be more than 4 mg/L. To bridge the one order of magnitude in the detector size difference between Daya Bay and JUNO, the Daya Bay data were used to tune the parameters of a newly developed optical model. Then, the model and tuned parameters were used in the JUNO simulation. This enabled to determine the optimal composition for the JUNO LS: purified solvent LAB with 2.5 g/L PPO, and 1 to 4 mg/L bis-MSB.

The observation of the Crab Nebula with LHAASO-KM2A for the performance study

As a sub-array of the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO), KM2A is mainly designed to cover a large fraction of the northern sky to hunt for gamma-ray sources at energies above 10 TeV. Even though the detector construction is still underway, a half of the KM2A array has been operating stably since the end of 2019. In this paper, we present the pipeline of KM2A data analysis and the first observation on the Crab Nebula, a standard candle in very high energy gamma-ray astronomy. We detect gamma-ray signals from the Crab Nebula in both energy ranges of 10−-100 TeV and >>100 TeV with high significance, by analyzing the KM2A data of 136 live days between December 2019 and May 2020. With the observations, we test the detector performance including angular resolution, pointing accuracy and cosmic ray background rejection power. The energy spectrum of the Crab Nebula in the energy range 10-250 TeV fits well with a single power-law function dN/dE =(1.13±\pm0.05stat_{stat}±\pm0.08sys_{sys})×\times10−14^{-14}⋅\cdot(E/20TeV)−3.09±0.06stat±0.02sys^{-3.09\pm0.06_{stat}\pm0.02_{sys}} cm−2^{-2} s−1^{-1} TeV−1^{-1}. It is consistent with previous measurements by other experiments. This opens a new window of gamma-ray astronomy above 0.1 PeV through which ultrahigh-energy gamma-ray new phenomena, such as cosmic PeVatrons, might be discovered.

Centrality dependence of subthreshold ϕϕ meson production in Ni+Ni collisions at 1.9A GeV

We analysed the ϕϕ meson production in central Ni+Ni collisions at the beam kinetic energy of 1.93A GeV with the FOPI spectrometer and found the production probability per event of [8.6 ± 1.6 (stat)±1.5 (syst)]×10−4[8.6 ~\pm~ 1.6 ~(\text{stat}) \pm 1.5 ~(\text{syst})] \times 10^{-4}. This new data point allows for the first time to inspect the centrality dependence of the subthreshold ϕϕ meson production in heavy-ion collisions. The rise of ϕϕ meson multiplicity per event with mean number of participants can be parameterized by the power function with exponent α=1.8±0.6α= 1.8 \pm 0.6. The ratio of ϕϕ to K−\text{K}^- production yields seems not to depend within the experimental uncertainties on the collision centrality, and the average of measured values was found to be 0.36±0.050.36 \pm 0.05.

Improved Search for a Light Sterile Neutrino with the Full Configuration of the Daya Bay Experiment

This Letter reports an improved search for light sterile neutrino mixing in the electron antineutrino disappearance channel with the full configuration of the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment. With an additional 404 days of data collected in eight antineutrino detectors, this search benefits from 3.6 times the statistics available to the previous publication, as well as from improvements in energy calibration and background reduction. A relative comparison of the rate and energy spectrum of reactor antineutrinos in the three experimental halls yields no evidence of sterile neutrino mixing in the 2×10−4≲∣Δm412∣≲0.32\times10^{-4} \lesssim |Δm^{2}_{41}| \lesssim 0.3 eV2^{2} mass range. The resulting limits on sin⁡22θ14\sin^{2}2θ_{14} are improved by approximately a factor of 2 over previous results and constitute the most stringent constraints to date in the ∣Δm412∣≲0.2|Δm^{2}_{41}| \lesssim 0.2 eV2^{2} region.

Limits on Active to Sterile Neutrino Oscillations from Disappearance Searches in the MINOS, Daya Bay, and Bugey-3 Experiments

Searches for a light sterile neutrino have been performed independently by the MINOS and the Daya Bay experiments using the muon (anti)neutrino and electron antineutrino disappearance channels, respectively. In this Letter, results from both experiments are combined with those from the Bugey-3 reactor neutrino experiment to constrain oscillations into light sterile neutrinos. The three experiments are sensitive to complementary regions of parameter space, enabling the combined analysis to probe regions allowed by the LSND and MiniBooNE experiments in a minimally extended four-neutrino flavor framework. Stringent limits on sin⁡22θμe\sin^2 2θ_{μe} are set over 6 orders of magnitude in the sterile mass-squared splitting Δm412Δm^2_{41}. New measurement of θ13θ_{13} via neutron capture on hydrogen at Daya Bay

This article reports an improved independent measurement of neutrino mixing angle θ13θ_{13} at the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment. Electron antineutrinos were identified by inverse ββ-decays with the emitted neutron captured by hydrogen, yielding a data-set with principally distinct uncertainties from that with neutrons captured by gadolinium. With the final two of eight antineutrino detectors installed, this study used 621 days of data including the previously reported 217-day data set with six detectors. The dominant statistical uncertainty was reduced by 49%. Intensive studies of the cosmogenic muon-induced 9^9Li and fast neutron backgrounds and the neutron-capture energy selection efficiency, resulted in a reduction of the systematic uncertainty by 26%. The deficit in the detected number of antineutrinos at the far detectors relative to the expected number based on the near detectors yielded sin⁡22θ13=0.071±0.011\sin^22θ_{13} = 0.071 \pm 0.011 in the three-neutrino-oscillation framework. The combination of this result with the gadolinium-capture result is also reported.

Strange meson production in Al+Al collisions at 1.9A GeV

The production of K+^+, K−^- and φφ(1020) mesons is studied in Al+Al collisions at a beam energy of 1.9A GeV which is close or below the production threshold in NN reactions. Inverse slopes, anisotropy parameters, and total emission yields of K±^{\pm} mesons are obtained. A comparison of the ratio of kinetic energy distributions of K−^- and K+^+ mesons to the HSD transport model calculations suggests that the inclusion of the in-medium modifications of kaon properties is necessary to reproduce the ratio. The inverse slope and total yield of ϕϕ mesons are deduced. The contribution to K−^- production from ϕϕ meson decays is found to be [17 ±\pm 3 (stat) −7+2^{+2}_{-7} (syst)] %. The results are in line with previous K±^{\pm} and ϕϕ data obtained for different colliding systems at similar incident beam energies.

Study of the wave packet treatment of neutrino oscillation at Daya Bay

The disappearance of reactor νˉe\barν_e observed by the Daya Bay experiment is examined in the framework of a model in which the neutrino is described by a wave packet with a relative intrinsic momentum dispersion σrelσ_\text{rel}. Three pairs of nuclear reactors and eight antineutrino detectors, each with good energy resolution, distributed among three experimental halls, supply a high-statistics sample of νˉe\barν_e acquired at nine different baselines. This provides a unique platform to test the effects which arise from the wave packet treatment of neutrino oscillation. The modified survival probability formula was used to fit Daya Bay data, providing the first experimental limits: 2.38⋅10−17<σrel<0.232.38 \cdot 10^{-17} < σ_{\rm rel} < 0.23. Treating the dimensions of the reactor cores and detectors as constraints, the limits are improved: 10−14≲σrel<0.2310^{-14} \lesssim σ_{\rm rel} < 0.23, and an upper limit of σrel<0.20σ_{\rm rel} <0.20 is obtained. All limits correspond to a 95\% C.L. Furthermore, the effect due to the wave packet nature of neutrino oscillation is found to be insignificant for reactor antineutrinos detected by the Daya Bay experiment thus ensuring an unbiased measurement of the oscillation parameters sin⁡22θ13\sin^22θ_{13} and Δm322Δm^2_{32} within the plane wave model.

The Detector System of The Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment

The Daya Bay experiment was the first to report simultaneous measurements of reactor antineutrinos at multiple baselines leading to the discovery of νˉe\barν_e oscillations over km-baselines. Subsequent data has provided the world's most precise measurement of sin22θ13\rm{sin}^22θ_{13} and the effective mass splitting Δmee2Δm_{ee}^2. The experiment is located in Daya Bay, China where the cluster of six nuclear reactors is among the world's most prolific sources of electron antineutrinos. Multiple antineutrino detectors are deployed in three underground water pools at different distances from the reactor cores to search for deviations in the antineutrino rate and energy spectrum due to neutrino mixing. Instrumented with photomultiplier tubes (PMTs), the water pools serve as shielding against natural radioactivity from the surrounding rock and provide efficient muon tagging. Arrays of resistive plate chambers over the top of each pool provide additional muon detection. The antineutrino detectors were specifically designed for measurements of the antineutrino flux with minimal systematic uncertainty. Relative detector efficiencies between the near and far detectors are known to better than 0.2%. With the unblinding of the final two detectors' baselines and target masses, a complete description and comparison of the eight antineutrino detectors can now be presented. This paper describes the Daya Bay detector systems, consisting of eight antineutrino detectors in three instrumented water pools in three underground halls, and their operation through the first year of eight detector data-taking.

A new measurement of antineutrino oscillation with the full detector configuration at Daya Bay

We report a new measurement of electron antineutrino disappearance using the fully-constructed Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment. The final two of eight antineutrino detectors were installed in the summer of 2012. Including the 404 days of data collected from October 2012 to November 2013 resulted in a total exposure of 6.9×\times105^5 GWth_{\rm th}-ton-days, a 3.6 times increase over our previous results. Improvements in energy calibration limited variations between detectors to 0.2%. Removal of six 241^{241}Am-13^{13}C radioactive calibration sources reduced the background by a factor of two for the detectors in the experimental hall furthest from the reactors. Direct prediction of the antineutrino signal in the far detectors based on the measurements in the near detectors explicitly minimized the dependence of the measurement on models of reactor antineutrino emission. The uncertainties in our estimates of sin⁡22θ13\sin^{2}2θ_{13} and ∣Δmee2∣|Δm^2_{ee}| were halved as a result of these improvements. Analysis of the relative antineutrino rates and energy spectra between detectors gave sin⁡22θ13=0.084±0.005\sin^{2}2θ_{13} = 0.084\pm0.005 and ∣Δmee2∣=(2.42±0.11)×10−3|Δm^{2}_{ee}|= (2.42\pm0.11) \times 10^{-3} eV2^2 in the three-neutrino framework.

Measurement of the Reactor Antineutrino Flux and Spectrum at Daya Bay

This Letter reports a measurement of the flux and energy spectrum of electron antineutrinos from six 2.9~GWth_{th} nuclear reactors with six detectors deployed in two near (effective baselines 512~m and 561~m) and one far (1,579~m) underground experimental halls in the Daya Bay experiment. Using 217 days of data, 296,721 and 41,589 inverse beta decay (IBD) candidates were detected in the near and far halls, respectively. The measured IBD yield is (1.55 ±\pm 0.04) ×\times 10−18^{-18}~cm2^2/GW/day or (5.92 ±\pm 0.14) ×\times 10−43^{-43}~cm2^2/fission. This flux measurement is consistent with previous short-baseline reactor antineutrino experiments and is 0.946±0.0220.946\pm0.022 (0.991±0.0230.991\pm0.023) relative to the flux predicted with the Huber+Mueller (ILL+Vogel) fissile antineutrino model. The measured IBD positron energy spectrum deviates from both spectral predictions by more than 2σσ over the full energy range with a local significance of up to ∼\sim4σσ between 4-6 MeV. A reactor antineutrino spectrum of IBD reactions is extracted from the measured positron energy spectrum for model-independent predictions.

The Knee of the Cosmic Hydrogen and Helium Spectrum below 1 PeV Measured by ARGO-YBJ and a Cherenkov Telescope of LHAASO

The measurement of cosmic ray energy spectra, in particular for individual species, is an essential approach in finding their origin. Here we report a measurement of the mixed Hydrogen and Helium spectrum using the combination of the ARGO-YBJ experiment and of a prototype Cherenkov telescope for the LHAASO experiment. A knee feature at 640+/-87 TeV, with a clear steepening of the spectrum, is observed. This gives fundamental inputs to galactic cosmic ray acceleration models.

Azimuthal Emission Patterns of K+K^{+} and of K− K^{-} Mesons in Ni + Ni Collisions near the Strangeness Production Threshold

Azimuthal emission patterns of K±K^\pm mesons have been measured in Ni + Ni collisions with the FOPI spectrometer at a beam kinetic energy of 1.91 A GeV. The transverse momentum pTp_{T} integrated directed and elliptic flow of K+K^{+} and K−K^{-} mesons as well as the centrality dependence of pTp_{T} - differential directed flow of K+K^{+} mesons are compared to the predictions of HSD and IQMD transport models. Independent Measurement of Theta13 via Neutron Capture on Hydrogen at Daya Bay

A new measurement of the θ13θ_{13} mixing angle has been obtained at the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment via the detection of inverse beta decays tagged by neutron capture on hydrogen. The antineutrino events for hydrogen capture are distinct from those for gadolinium capture with largely different systematic uncertainties, allowing a determination independent of the gadolinium-capture result and an improvement on the precision of θ13θ_{13} measurement. With a 217-day antineutrino data set obtained with six antineutrino detectors and from six 2.9 GWth_{th} reactors, the rate deficit observed at the far hall is interpreted as sin⁡22θ13=0.083±0.018\sin^22θ_{13}=0.083\pm0.018 in the three-flavor oscillation model. When combined with the gadolinium-capture result from Daya Bay, we obtain sin⁡22θ13=0.089±0.008\sin^22θ_{13}=0.089\pm0.008 as the final result for the six-antineutrino-detector configuration of the Daya Bay experiment.

Influence of ϕϕ mesons on negative kaons in Ni+Ni collisions at 1.91A GeV beam energy

ϕϕ and K−^- mesons from Ni+Ni collisions at the beam energy of 1.91A GeV have been measured by the FOPI spectrometer, with a trigger selecting central and semi-central events amounting to 51% of the total cross section. The phase space distributions, and the total yield of K−^-, as well as the kinetic energy distribution and the total yield of ϕϕ mesons are presented. The ϕϕ\K−^- ratio is found to be 0.44±0.07(stat)−0.12+0.18(syst)0.44 \pm 0.07(\text{stat}) ^{+0.18}_{-0.12} (\text{syst}), meaning that about 22% of K−^- mesons originate from the decays of ϕϕ mesons, occurring mostly in vacuum. The inverse slopes of direct kaons are up to about 15 MeV larger than the ones extracted within the one-source model, signalling that a considerable share of gap between the slopes of K+^+ and K−^- could be explained by the contribution of ϕϕ mesons to negative kaons.

Search for a Light Sterile Neutrino at Daya Bay

A search for light sterile neutrino mixing was performed with the first 217 days of data from the Daya Bay Reactor Antineutrino Experiment. The experiment's unique configuration of multiple baselines from six 2.9~GWth_{\rm th} nuclear reactors to six antineutrino detectors deployed in two near (effective baselines 512~m and 561~m) and one far (1579~m) underground experimental halls makes it possible to test for oscillations to a fourth (sterile) neutrino in the 10−3 eV2<∣Δm412∣<0.3 eV210^{\rm -3}~{\rm eV}^{2} < |Δm_{41}^{2}| < 0.3~{\rm eV}^{2} range. The relative spectral distortion due to electron antineutrino disappearance was found to be consistent with that of the three-flavor oscillation model. The derived limits on sin⁡22θ14\sin^22θ_{14} cover the 10−3 eV2≲∣Δm412∣≲0.1 eV210^{-3}~{\rm eV}^{2} \lesssim |Δm^{2}_{41}| \lesssim 0.1~{\rm eV}^{2} region, which was largely unexplored.

Spectral measurement of electron antineutrino oscillation amplitude and frequency at Daya Bay

A measurement of the energy dependence of antineutrino disappearance at the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment is reported. Electron antineutrinos (ν‾e\overlineν_{e}) from six 2.92.9 GWth_{\rm th} reactors were detected with six detectors deployed in two near (effective baselines 512 m and 561 m) and one far (1579 m) underground experimental halls. Using 217 days of data, 41589 (203809 and 92912) antineutrino candidates were detected in the far hall (near halls). An improved measurement of the oscillation amplitude sin⁡22θ13=0.090−0.009+0.008\sin^{2}2θ_{13} = 0.090^{+0.008}_{-0.009} and the first direct measurement of the ν‾e\overlineν_{e} mass-squared difference ∣Δmee2∣=(2.59−0.20+0.19)×10−3 eV2|Δm^{2}_{ee}|= (2.59_{-0.20}^{+0.19}) \times 10^{-3}\ {\rm eV}^2 is obtained using the observed ν‾e\overlineν_{e} rates and energy spectra in a three-neutrino framework. This value of ∣Δmee2∣|Δm^{2}_{ee}| is consistent with ∣Δmμμ2∣|Δm^{2}_{μμ}| measured by muon neutrino disappearance, supporting the three-flavor oscillation model.

Assembly and Installation of the Daya Bay Antineutrino Detectors

The Daya Bay reactor antineutrino experiment is designed to make a precision measurement of the neutrino mixing angle theta13, and recently made the definitive discovery of its nonzero value. It utilizes a set of eight, functionally identical antineutrino detectors to measure the reactor flux and spectrum at baselines of 300 - 2000m from the Daya Bay and Ling Ao Nuclear Power Plants. The Daya Bay antineutrino detectors were built in an above-ground facility and deployed side-by-side at three underground experimental sites near and far from the nuclear reactors. This configuration allows the experiment to make a precision measurement of reactor antineutrino disappearance over km-long baselines and reduces relative systematic uncertainties between detectors and nuclear reactors. This paper describes the assembly and installation of the Daya Bay antineutrino detectors.

A side-by-side comparison of Daya Bay antineutrino detectors

The Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment is designed to determine precisely the neutrino mixing angle θ13θ_{13} with a sensitivity better than 0.01 in the parameter sin22θ13^22θ_{13} at the 90% confidence level. To achieve this goal, the collaboration will build eight functionally identical antineutrino detectors. The first two detectors have been constructed, installed and commissioned in Experimental Hall 1, with steady data-taking beginning September 23, 2011. A comparison of the data collected over the subsequent three months indicates that the detectors are functionally identical, and that detector-related systematic uncertainties exceed requirements.

Improved Measurement of Electron Antineutrino Disappearance at Daya Bay

We report an improved measurement of the neutrino mixing angle θ13θ_{13} from the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment. We exclude a zero value for sin⁡22θ13\sin^22θ_{13} with a significance of 7.7 standard deviations. Electron antineutrinos from six reactors of 2.9 GWth_{\rm th} were detected in six antineutrino detectors deployed in two near (flux-weighted baselines of 470 m and 576 m) and one far (1648 m) underground experimental halls. Using 139 days of data, 28909 (205308) electron antineutrino candidates were detected at the far hall (near halls). The ratio of the observed to the expected number of antineutrinos assuming no oscillations at the far hall is 0.944±0.007(stat.)±0.003(syst.)0.944\pm 0.007({\rm stat.}) \pm 0.003({\rm syst.}). An analysis of the relative rates in six detectors finds sin⁡22θ13=0.089±0.010(stat.)±0.005(syst.)\sin^22θ_{13}=0.089\pm 0.010({\rm stat.})\pm0.005({\rm syst.}) in a three-neutrino framework.

Observation of electron-antineutrino disappearance at Daya Bay

The Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment has measured a non-zero value for the neutrino mixing angle θ13θ_{13} with a significance of 5.2 standard deviations. Antineutrinos from six 2.9 GWth_{\rm th} reactors were detected in six antineutrino detectors deployed in two near (flux-weighted baseline 470 m and 576 m) and one far (1648 m) underground experimental halls. With a 43,000 ton-GW_{\rm th}-day livetime exposure in 55 days, 10416 (80376) electron antineutrino candidates were detected at the far hall (near halls). The ratio of the observed to expected number of antineutrinos at the far hall is R=0.940±0.011(stat)±0.004(syst)R=0.940\pm 0.011({\rm stat}) \pm 0.004({\rm syst}). A rate-only analysis finds sin⁡22θ13=0.092±0.016(stat)±0.005(syst)\sin^22θ_{13}=0.092\pm 0.016({\rm stat})\pm0.005({\rm syst}) in a three-neutrino framework.

Properties and Performance of Two Wide Field of View Cherenkov/Fluorescence Telescope Array Prototypes

A wide field of view Cherenkov/fluorescence telescope array is one of the main components of the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory project. To serve as Cherenkov and fluorescence detectors, a flexible and mobile design is adopted for easy reconfiguring of the telescope array. Two prototype telescopes have been constructed and successfully run at the site of the ARGO-YBJ experiment in Tibet. The features and performance of the telescopes are presented.

Geometry and optics calibration of WFCTA prototype telescopes using star light

The Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory project is proposed to study high energy gamma ray astronomy ( 40 GeV-1 PeV ) and cosmic ray physics ( 20 TeV-1 EeV ). The wide field of view Cherenkov telescope array, as a component of the LHAASO project, will be used to study energy spectrum and compositions of cosmic ray by measuring the total Cherenkov light generated by air showers and shower maximum depth. Two prototype telescopes have been in operation since 2008. The pointing accuracy of each telescope is crucial to the direction reconstruction of the primary particles. On the other hand the primary energy reconstruction relies on the shape of the Cherenkov image on the camera and the unrecorded photons due to the imperfect connections between photomultiplier tubes. UV bright stars are used as point-like objects to calibrate the pointing and to study the optical properties of the camera, the spot size and the fractions of unrecorded photons in the insensitive areas of the camera.
