$O(α_s)$ corrections to the polar angle dependence of the longitudinal spin-spin correlation asymmetry in $e^+e^-\to q\bar q$

We provide analytical results for the $O(α_s)$ corrections to the polar angle dependence of the longitudinal spin-spin correlation asymmetry in $e^+e^-\to q\bar q$. For top quark pair production the $O(α_s)$ corrections to the longitudinal spin-spin asymmetry are strongly polar angle dependent and can amount up to $4\%$ in the $q^2$-range from above $t\bar t$ threshold up to $\sqrt{q^2}=1000$ GeV. The $O(α_s)$ radiative corrections to the correlation asymmetry are below $1\%$ in the forward direction where the cross section is largest. In the $e^+e^-\to b\bar b$ case the $O(α_s)$ corrections reduce the asymmetry value from its $m_b=0$ value of $-100\%$ to approximately $-96\%$ for $q^2$-values around the $Z$ peak and are practically independent of the value of the polar angle theta. This reduction can be traced to finite anomalous contributions from residual mass effects which survive the $m_b\to 0$ limit. We discuss the role of the anomalous contributions and the pattern of how they contribute to spin-flip and non-flip terms.

Helicity Amplitudes and Angular Decay Distributions

I discuss how to obtain angular decay distributions for sequential cascade decays using helicity methods. The angular decay distributions follow from a reasonably simple master formula involving bilinear forms of helicity amplitudes and Wigner's $d$ functions. I discuss in some detail the issue of gauge invariance for off-shell gauge bosons. As a technical exercise I calculate the linear relation between the helicity amplitudes and the invariant amplitudes of semileptonic and rare baryon decays. I discuss two explicit examples of angular decay distributions for (i) the decay $t\to b+W^+(\to \ell^+ν_\ell)$ (which leads to the notion of the helicity fractions of the $W^+$), and (ii) the sequential decay $Λ_b\toΛ(\to pπ^-)+J/ψ(\to \ell^+\ell^-)$.

Perturbative $O(α_s)$ corrections to the correlation functions of light tetraquark currents

We calculate the next-to-leading order QCD corrections to the perturbative term in the operator product expansion of the spectral functions of light tetraquark currents. By using also configuration space methods we keep the momentum space four-loop calculation to a manageable level. We find that the next-to-leading order corrections to the perturbative term are large and can amount to $O(100\%)$. The corrections to the corresponding Borel sum rules, however, are small since the nonperturbative condensate contributions dominate the Borel sum rules.

The decays of on-shell and off-shell polarized gauge bosons into massive quark pairs at NLO QCD

We discuss the polar angle decay distribution in the decay of on-shell and off-shell polarized (W,Z) gauge bosons into massive quark pairs. In particular for the off-shell decays in $H \to (W,Z) + (W^\ast,Z^\ast) (\to q_1\bar q_2)$ it is important to keep the masses of the charm and bottom quarks at their finite values since the scale of the problem is not set by $m_{W,Z}^2$ but by the off-shellness of the gauge boson which varies in the range $(m_1+m_2)^2 \le q^2 \le (m_H-m_{W,Z})^2$.

Fully analytical O(α_s) results for on-shell and off-shell polarized W-boson decays into massive quark pairs

We provide analytical $O(α_s)$ results for the three polarized decay structure functions $H_{++},\,H_{00}$ and $H_{--}$ that describe the decay of a polarized $W$ boson into massive quark--antiquark pairs. As an application we consider the decay $t\to b+W^+$ involving the helicity fractions $ρ_{mm}$ of the $W^+$ boson followed by the polarized decay $\hbox{$W^+(\uparrow)$}\to q_1\bar{q}_2$ described by the polarized decay structure functions $H_{mm}$. We thereby determine the $O(α_s)$ polar angle decay distribution of the cascade decay process $t\to b+W^+(\to q_1\bar{q}_2)$. As a second example we analyze quark mass and off-shell effects in the cascade decays $H\to W^{-}+W^{\ast +}(\to q_1\bar{q}_2)$ and $H\to Z+Z^{\ast}(\to q\bar{q})$. For the decays $H\to W^{-}+W^{\ast +}(\to c\bar b)$ and $H\to Z+Z^{\ast}(\to b\bar{b})$ we find substantial deviations from the mass-zero approximation in particular in the vicinity of the threshold region.

A numerical test of differential equations for one- and two-loop sunrise diagrams using configuration space techniques

We use configuration space methods to write down one-dimensional integral representations for one- and two-loop sunrise diagrams (also called Bessel moments) which we use to numerically check on the correctness of the second order differential equations for one- and two-loop sunrise diagrams that have recently been discussed in the literature.

Calculating loops without loop calculations: NLO computation of pentaquark correlators

We compute next-to-leading order (NLO) perturbative QCD corrections to the correlators of interpolating pentaquark currents. We employ modular techniques in configuration space which saves us from the onus of having to do loop calculations. The modular technique is explained in some detail. We present explicit NLO results for several interpolating pentaquark currents that have been written down in the literature. Our modular approach is easily adapted to the case of NLO corrections to multiquark correlators with an arbitrary number of quarks/antiquarks.

O(α_s) corrections to the decays of polarized W^+- and Z bosons into massive quark pairs

We present O(α_s) results on the decays of polarized W^+- and Z bosons into massive quark pairs. The NLO QCD corrections to the polarized decay functions are given up to the second order in the quark mass expansion. We find a surprisingly strong dependence of the NLO polarized decay functions on finite quark mass effects even at the relatively large mass scale of the W^+- and Z bosons. As a main application we consider the decay t -> b + W^+ involving the helicity fractions ρ_{mm} of the W^+ boson followed by the polarized decay W^+(\uparrow) -> q_1 qbar_2 for which we determine the O(α_s) polar angle decay distribution. We also discuss NLO polarization effects in the production/decay process e^+e^- -> Z(\uparrow) -> q qbar.

Single top quark polarization at O(alpha_s) in t t-bar production at a polarized linear e^+ e^- collider

We present a detailed investigation of the NLO polarization of the top quark in t t-bar production at a polarized linear e^+ e^- collider with longitudinally polarized beams. By appropiately tuning the polarization of the beams one can achieve close to maximal values for the top quark polarization over most of the forward hemisphere for a large range of energies. This is quite welcome since the rate is largest in the forward hemisphere. One can also tune the beam polarization to obtain close to zero polarization over most of the forward hemisphere.

A survey of top quark polarization at a polarized linear e^+ e^- collider

We discuss in detail top quark polarization in above-threshold (t \bar t)-production at a polarized linear e^+ e^- collider. We pay particular attention to the minimization and maximization of the polarization of the top quark by tuning the longitudinal polarization of the e^+ and e^- beams. The polarization of the top quark is calculated in full next-to-leading order QCD. We also discuss the beam polarization dependence of the longitudinal spin-spin correlations of the top and antitop quark spins.

Top quark polarization at a polarized linear e^+ e^- collider

We discuss the polarization of top quarks produced at a polarized linear e^+ e^- collider. Close-to-maximal values of the top quark polarization can be achieved with longitudinal beam polarizations (h_- = -0.80, h_+ = +0.625) or (h_- = +0.80, h_+ = -0.625) at intermediate beam energies. The option (h_- = -0.80, h_+ = +0.625) has to be preferred since this choice is quite stable against variations of the beam polarization. All our quantitative results have been obtained at NLO QCD.

Laurent series expansion of a class of massive scalar one-loop integrals up to ${\cal O}(\ep^2)$ in terms of multiple polylogarithms

In a recent paper we have presented results for a set of massive scalar one-loop master integrals needed in the NNLO parton model description of the hadroproduction of heavy flavors. The one--loop integrals were evaluated in $n=4-2\ep$ dimension and the results were presented in terms of a Laurent series expansion up to ${\cal O}(\ep^2)$. We found that some of the $\ep^2$ coefficients contain a new class of functions which we termed the $L$ functions. The $L$ functions are defined in terms of one--dimensional integrals involving products of logarithm and dilogarithm functions. In this paper we derive a complete set of algebraic relations that allow one to convert the $L$ functions of our previous approach to a sum of classical and multiple polylogarithms. Using these results we are now able to present the $\ep^2$ coefficients of the one-loop master integrals in terms of classical and multiple polylogarithms.

One-loop amplitudes for four-point functions with two external massive quarks and two external massless partons up to O(epsilon^2)

We present complete analytical ${\mathcal O}(ε^2)$ results on the one-loop amplitudes relevant for the NNLO quark-parton model description of the hadroproduction of heavy quarks as given by the so-called loop-by-loop contributions. All results of the perturbative calculation are given in the dimensional regularization scheme. These one-loop amplitudes can also be used as input in the determination of the corresponding NNLO cross sections for heavy flavor photoproduction, and in photon-photon reactions.

Note on the Slope Parameter of the Baryonic Λ_b to Λ_c Isgur-Wise Function

Using the framework of the Heavy Quark Effective Theory we have re-analyzed the Isgur-Wise function describing semileptonic Λ_b to Λ_c decays in the QCD sum rule approach. The slope parameter of the Isgur-Wise function is found to be ρ^2 = 1.35 \pm 0.12, which is consistent with an experimental measurement and a lattice calculation. To O(1/m_b,1/m_c) of the heavy quark expansion the integrated Λ_b decay width is used to extract the CKM matrix element V_{cb} for which we obtain a value of |V_{cb}| = 0.041 \pm 0.004 in excellent agreement with the value of |V_{cb}| determined from semileptonic B to D^* decays.

Semi-inclusive decays Lambda_b -> X_c + D_s^* at O(alpha_s) including Lambda_b and D_s^* polarization effects

In the leading order of the (1/m_b)-expansion in HQET the dominant contribution to the semi-inclusive decays of polarized Lambda_b baryons into the charm-strangeness mesons D_s and D_s^* is given by the partonic process b(up) -> c + (D_s^-, D_s^{*-}). Using standard values for the parameters of the process one expects a rather large branching ratio of approx. 8% into these two channels. In the factorization approximation the semi-inclusive decay of a polarized Lambda_b is governed by three unpolarized and four polarized structure functions for which we determine the nonperturbative O(1/m_b^2) corrections and the O(alpha_s) radiative corrections. We find that the perturbative and nonperturbative corrections amount to approx. 10% and approx. 3%, respectively. The seven structure functions can be measured through an analysis of the joint decay distributions of the process involving the polarization of the Lambda_b and the decays D_s^{*-} -> D_s^- + gamma and D_s^{*-} -> D_s^- + pi^0 for which we provide explicit forms. We also provide numerical results for the Cabibbo suppressed semi-inclusive decays Lambda_b -> X_u + (D_s, D_s^*).

A Supersymmetric Model with the Gauge Symmetry SU(3)_1 X SU(2)_1 X U(1)_1 X SU(3)_2 X SU(2)_2 X U(1)_2

A supersymmetric model with two copies of the Standard Model gauge groups is constructed in the gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking scenario. The supersymmetry breaking messengers are in a simple form. The Standard Model is obtained after first step gauge symmetry breaking. In the case of one copy of the gauge interactions being strong, a scenario of electroweak symmetry breaking is discussed, and the gauginos are generally predicted to be heavier than the sfermions.

An interpolation of the vacuum polarization function for the evaluation of hadronic contributions to the muon anomalous magnetic moment

We propose a simple parameterization of the two-point correlator of hadronic electromagnetic currents for the evaluation of the hadronic contributions to the muon anomalous magnetic moment. The parameterization is explicitly done in the Euclidean domain. The model function contains a phenomenological parameter which provides an infrared cutoff to guarantee the smooth behavior of the correlator at the origin in accordance with experimental data in e+ e- annihilation. After fixing a numerical value for this parameter from the leading order hadronic contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment the next-to-leading order results related to the vacuum polarization function are accurately reproduced. The properties of the four-point correlator of hadronic electromagnetic currents as for instance the so-called light-by-light scattering amplitude relevant for the calculation of the muon anomalous magnetic moment are briefly discussed.

Electroweak and finite width corrections to top quark decays into transverse and longitudinal $ W $-bosons

We calculate the electroweak and finite width corrections to the decay of an unpolarized top quark into a bottom quark and a $ W $-gauge boson where the helicities of the $ W $ are specified as longitudinal, transverse-plus and transverse-minus. Together with the $ O(α_s) $ corrections these corrections may become relevant for the determination of the mass of the top quark through angular decay measurements.

Complete angular analysis of polarized top decay at O(alpha_s)

We calculate the O(alpha_s) radiative corrections to the three spin independent and five spin dependent structure functions that describe the angular decay distribution in the decay of a polarized top quark into a W-boson (followed by the decay W^{+} -> l^{+} + nu_l or by W^{+} -> anti-q + q and a bottom quark. The angular decay distribution is described in cascade fashion, i.e. the decay t(uparrow) -> W^{+} + X_b is analyzed in the top rest system while the subsequent decay W^{+} -> l^{+} + nu_l (or W^{+} -> anti-q + q) is analyzed in the W rest frame. We present our results for the eight O(alpha_s) integrated structure functions in analytical form keeping the mass of the bottom quark finite. In the limit m_b -> 0 the structure function expressions reduce to rather compact forms.

Configuration Space Based Recurrence Relations for Sunset-Type Diagrams

We derive recurrence relations for the calculation of multiloop sunset-type diagrams with large powers of massive propagators. The technique is formulated in configuration space and exploits the explicit form of the massive propagator raised to a given power. We write down and evaluate a convenient set of basis integrals. The method is well suited for a numerical evaluation of this class of diagrams. We give explicit analytical formulae for the basis integrals in the asymptotic regime.

Gluon Polarization in e^+e^- -> t \bar t G: Polar Angle Dependence and Beam Polarization Effects

We calculate the linear and circular polarization of gluons produced in conjunction with massive quarks in the annihilation process $e^+e^-\to q \bar q G$. The linear polarization is calculated in the hadron event plane as well as in the gluon-beam plane. Beam polarization and polar orientation effects are included in our discussion. For typical top pair production energies at the Next-Linear-Collider (NLC) the degree of linear polarization in the hadron event plane remains close to its soft gluon value of 100% over most of the energy spectrum of the gluon. The linear polarization in the gluon-beam plane is generally smaller but peaks toward the hard end of the gluon spectrum. The dependence of the linear polarization on beam polarization and on the polar orientation of the gluon is small. The circular polarization is largest for maximal gluon energies and shows a strong dependence on the longitudinal beam polarization. The longitudinal polarization of the beam may therefore be used to tune the circular polarization of the gluon. The massive quark results are compared with the corresponding results for the massless quark case.

An Analysis of Diagonal and Non-diagonal QCD Sum Rules for Heavy Baryons at Next-to-Leading Order in α_S

We consider diagonal and non-diagonal QCD sum rules for the ground state heavy baryons to leading order in $1/m_Q$ and at next-to-leading order in $α_S$. In the non-diagonal case we evaluate the eight different two-loop diagrams which determine the perturbative $α_S$-corrections to the Wilson coefficient of the quark condensate in the Operator Product Expansion. The QCD corrections to the non-diagonal sum rules are moderate compared to the QCD corrections in the diagonal case. We also consider constituent type sum rules using constituent type interpolating currents. The obtained results are in reasonable agreement with the corresponding results obtained in the diagonal case. As central values for the bound state energies we find $m(Λ_Q)-m_Q = 760 MeV$ and $m(Σ_Q)-m_Q = 940 MeV$. The central values for the residues are given by $F(Λ_Q) = 0.030 GeV^3$ and $F(Σ_Q) = 0.038 GeV^3$.

Inclusive Semileptonic Decays of Polarized $Λ_b$ Baryons into Polarized $τ$-Leptons

We employ OPE techniques within HQET to calculate the inclusive semileptonic decays of polarized $Λ_b$ baryons. Lepton mass effects are included which enables us to also discuss rates into polarized $τ$-leptons. We present explicit results for the longitudinal polarization of the $τ$ in the $Λ_b$ rest frame as well as in the $(τ^-, \bar ν_τ)$ c.m. frame. In both cases we make use of novel calculational techniques which considerably simplify the calculations. The transverse polarization components of the $τ$ are calculated in the $(τ^-,\barν_τ)$ c.m. frame. We delineate how to measure the full set of 14 polarized and unpolarized structure functions of the decay process by angular correlation measurements. A set of observables are identified that allow one to isolate the contributions of the two $O(1/m_b^2)$ nonperturbative matrix elements $K_b$ and $ε_b$.

New high order relations between physical observables in perturbative QCD

We exploit the fact that within massless perturbative QCD the same Green's function determines the hadronic contribution to the $τ$ decay width and the moments of the $e^+e^-$ cross section. This allows one to obtain relations between physical observables in the two processes up to an unprecedented high order of perturbative QCD. A precision measurement of the $τ$ decay width allows one then to predict the first few moments of the spectral density in $e^+e^-$ annihilations integrated up to $s\sim m_τ^2$ with high accuracy. The proposed tests are in reach of present experimental capabilities.

QCD Sum Rules for Heavy Baryons at Next-to-Leading Order in alpha_s

We derive QCD sum rules for heavy baryons at leading order in $1/m_Q$ and at next-to-leading order in $α_s$. The calculation involves the evaluation of four different perturbative three-loop diagrams which determine the $α_s$-corrections to the Wilson coefficients of the leading term in the Operator Product Expansion (OPE). From the sum rules we obtain estimates for the masses and the residues of the heavy baryons $Λ_Q$ and $Σ_Q$. The perturbative $O(α_s)$ corrections to the leading order spectral function amount to about $100%$, and they shift the calculated values for the baryon masses slightly upward. The residues are shifted upward by about $20-50%$. For the bound state energy $\barΛ$ given by the difference of the heavy baryon mass and the pole mass of the heavy quark $m_Q$ we obtain $m_{Λ_Q}-m_Q=780 MeV$ and $m_{Σ_Q}-m_Q=950 MeV$. For the residues we find $|F_Λ|=0.028 GeV^3$ and $|F_Σ|=0.039 GeV^3$.

Transverse Polarization of Top Quarks Produced in e+e- Annihilation at O(alpha_s)

We present the results of an O(alpha_s) calculation of the transverse polarization of top quarks produced in e+e- annihilation. In a first step we determine the transverse polarization of the top with regard to the hadron plane spanned by the (q,bar q,g) system. We then rotate the transverse components of the polarization to the lepton plane spanned by the (q,e+,e-) system. After azimuthal averaging we determine the three remaining inclusive transversely polarized structure functions. Together with the one-loop and Born term contributions they determine the sin(theta) and sin(2*theta) beam-quark polar angle dependence of the transverse polarization. We present analytic and numerical results for the polarized structure functions and the polar angle dependence of the transverse polarization. We briefly comment on the transverse polarization of bottom quarks produced in e+e- annihilation.

$SU(2N_{f})\otimes O(3)$ light diquark symmetry and current-induced heavy baryon transition form factors

We study the current-induced bottom baryon to charm baryon transitions in the Heavy Quark Symmetry limit as $m_{q}\rightarrow \infty$. Our discussion involves $s$-wave to $s$-wave as well as $s$-wave to $p$-wave transitions. Using a constituent quark model picture for the light diquark system with an underlying $SU(2N_{f})\otimes O(3)$ symmetry and the heavy quark symmetry we arrive at a number of new predictions for the reduced form factors that describe these transitions.

QCD Radiative Correction to Zero Recoil Sum Rules for Heavy Flavor Transitions in the Small Velocity Limit.

We consider the small velocity sum rules for heavy flavour semileptonic transitions that are used to estimate the zero recoil values of semileptonic heavy flavour form factors. We analyze the complete O($α_S$) radiative correction to these sum rules. The corrections are universal and influence all "model-independent" bounds previously derived for semileptonic form factors at zero recoil.

Two -loop $O(G_F{M_H}^2)$ radiative corrections to the Higgs decay width $H \to γγ$ for large Higgs boson masses

This note is devoted to the calculation of the two-loop $O(G_F {M_H}^2)$ radiative corrections to the Higgs decay width $H \to γγ$ for large values of the Higgs boson mass $M_H$ within the Minimal Standard Model. The use of the Equivalence Theorem makes it possible to reduce the problem to the consideration of the physical Higgs boson field and the Goldstone bosons $w^{+},w^{-},z$. We present analytical results for the various two- and three-particle absorptive parts of two-loop contributions, using dispersive techniques, analytic results for all but one of the dispersive contributions. The typical size of the correction is $\sim ~30 $ percent for a Higgs boson mass of order $1~TeV$.

QCD corrections to decays of polarised charm and bottom quarks

Distributions of charged leptons in semileptonic $Λ_c$ and $Λ_b$ decays can be used as spin analysers for the corresponding charm and bottom quarks. QCD corrections to the energy spectra of charged leptons have been given in the literature as well as the corrections to the angular dependence for polarised up-type quarks. The analogous formulae are derived also for polarised down-type quarks. These results are applied to the decays of polarised charm and bottom quarks. The corrections to the asymmetries are found to be small for charm decays. For bottom decays they exhibit a non-trivial dependence on the energy of the charged lepton.
