Low-energy interactions of mesons with participation of the first radially excited states in $U(3) \times U(3)$ NJL model

The $U(3) \times U(3)$ chiral symmetric NJL model describing pseudoscalar, vector, and axial vector mesons in both the ground state and first radially excited states is shortly presented in this review. In this model, it is possible to describe a large number of low-energy interactions of mesons, $τ$ lepton decays into mesons and processes of meson production in electron-positron annihilations in satisfactory agreement with the experiments. In describing a number of processes, it turned out to be necessary to take into account the interactions of mesons in the final state.

Master Integrals for Inclusive Weak Decays of Heavy Flavours at Next-to-Leading Order

We present analytical results for master integrals emerging in the computation of differential rates for inclusive weak decays of heavy flavors at next-to-leading order (NLO) in QCD. As an immediate physical application, these master integrals allow for a calculation of the spectra of the leptonic invariant mass in inclusive semileptonic decays in the framework of the heavy quark expansion, including the NLO QCD corrections to power suppressed terms.

NLO QCD Corrections to Inclusive $b \rightarrow c \ell \barν$ Decay Spectra up to $1/m_Q^3$

We present analytical results for higher order corrections to the decay spectra of inclusive semileptonic heavy hadron weak decays using the heavy quark expansion (HQE). We compute analytically the spectrum of the leptonic invariant mass for $B \rightarrow X_c \ell \barν$ up to and including terms of order $1/m_Q^3$ within the HQE at next-to-leading order (NLO) in $α_s$. The full dependence of the differential rate on the mass of the final-state quark is taken into account. We discuss the implications of our results for the precision determination of the CKM matrix element $|V_{cb}|$.

The Heavy Quark Expansion for the Charm Quark

We show that one can re-arrange the Heavy Quark Expansion for inclusive weak decays of charmed hadrons in such a way that the resulting expansion is an expansion in $Λ_{\rm QCD} / m_c$ and $α_s (m_c)$ with order-one coefficients. Unlike in the case of the bottom quark, the leading term includes not only the contribution of the free-quark decay, but also a tower of terms related to matrix elements of four quark operators.

On the mixing angle of the vector mesons $ω(782)$ and $ϕ(1020)$

In the present work, the mixing angle of the vector $ω(782)$ and $ϕ(1020)$ mesons is estimated in the framework of Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. The decay $ϕ\to π^{0} γ$ is considered as a basic process to determine this angle. The obtained value is compared with the results of the other authors. Besides, the width of the decay $ϕ\to 3π$ and the cross-section of the process $e^{+}e^{-} \to π^{0} ϕ$ are calculated by using this angle.

The decay $τ\to K^{*-}(892) ην_τ$ in the NJL model

The decay width $τ\to K^{*-}(892) ην_τ$ was calculated in the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. Four channels were taken into account: the contact channel (the final states are directly producted from lepton current without any intermediate meson states), the axial-vector channel with two intermediate physical states $K_{1}(1270)$ and $K_{1}(1400)$, the vector channel with intermediate $K^{*}(892)$ meson and the pseudoscalar channel with intermediate $K$ meson. It is shown that the first two channels give the dominant contribution to the decay width. Of the remaining two channels, the pseudoscalar channel plays a more prominent role. The final result is in satisfactory agreement with experimental data. Prediction for the differential decay width is presented.

The decay $τ\to K^{*0}(892) K^- ν_τ$ in the extended NJL model

In the extended Nambu -- Jona-Lasinio model, the decay width of $τ\to K^{*0}(892) K^- ν_τ$ is calculated. The contributions from the contact diagram and diagrams with intermediate axial-vector, vector and pseudoscalar mesons in the ground and first radially excited states are taken into account. It is shown that axial-vector and vector channel with a contact diagram give a dominant contribution to the decay width. The obtained results for the decay width $τ\to K^{*0}(892) K^- ν_τ$ are in satisfactory agreement with experimental data. A prediction for differential distribution over the invariant mass of the meson pair $K^{*0}(892) K^-$ is given.

The decay $τ\rightarrow K^{-}π^{0}ν_τ$ in the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model

In this paper, the width of the decay $τ\rightarrow K^{-}π^{0}ν_τ$ is calculated in the framework of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. The contributions of the intermediate vector $K^{*}(892)$ and scalar $K_{0}^{*}(800)$ mesons are taken into account. It is shown that the main contribution to the width of this decay is given by the subprocesses with the intermediate $W$-boson and vector $K^{*}(892)$ meson. The scalar channel with the intermediate $K_{0}^{*}(800)$ meson gives an insignificant contribution. In Appendix, it is shown that the contribution of the subprocess with the intermediate ${K^{*}}'(1410)$ meson is negligible as well. The obtained results are in satisfactory agreement with the experimental data.

The processes $e^{+}e^{-} \rightarrow K^{\pm} (K^{*\mp}(892), K^{*\mp}(1410))$ and $e^{+}e^{-} \rightarrow (η, η^{'}(958)) (ϕ(1020), ϕ(1680))$ in the extended Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model

The processes $e^{+}e^{-} \rightarrow K^{\pm} K^{*\mp}(892)$ and $e^{+}e^{-} \rightarrow ηϕ(1020)$ are calculated in the framework of the extended Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. The intermediate vector mesons $ρ(770), ω(782), ϕ(1020)$ and their first radially-excited states are taken into account. The obtained results are in satisfactory agreement with the experimental data. The predictions for the cross sections of the reactions $e^{+}e^{-} \rightarrow K^{\pm} K^{*\mp}(1410)$, $e^{+}e^{-} \rightarrow η^{'}(958) ϕ(1020)$ and $e^{+}e^{-} \rightarrow ηϕ(1680)$ were made.

Radial excitations of heavy-light mesons from QCD sum rules

QCD sum rules are commonly used to predict the characteristics of ground-state hadrons. We demonstrate that two-point sum rules for the decay constants of charmed ($D^{(*)},D_s^{(*)}$) and bottom ($B^{(*)},B_s^{(*)}$) mesons can also be modified to estimate the decay constants of the first radial excitations, $D^{(*)'},D_s^{(*)'}$ and $B^{(*)'},B_s^{(*)'}$, respectively, provided the masses of these resonances are used as an input. For the radially excited charmed mesons we use available experimental data, whereas the masses of analogous bottom mesons are estimated from the heavy-quark limit. The decay constants predicted for the radial excitations of heavy-light pseudoscalar and vector mesons are systematically smaller than those of the ground states and we comment on the possible origin of this difference. Our results can be used in the sum rule calculations of heavy-to-light form factors and in the factorization approximations for nonleptonic $B$-meson decays where the decay constants of charmed mesons enter as input parameters.

A numerical test of differential equations for one- and two-loop sunrise diagrams using configuration space techniques

We use configuration space methods to write down one-dimensional integral representations for one- and two-loop sunrise diagrams (also called Bessel moments) which we use to numerically check on the correctness of the second order differential equations for one- and two-loop sunrise diagrams that have recently been discussed in the literature.

Calculating loops without loop calculations: NLO computation of pentaquark correlators

We compute next-to-leading order (NLO) perturbative QCD corrections to the correlators of interpolating pentaquark currents. We employ modular techniques in configuration space which saves us from the onus of having to do loop calculations. The modular technique is explained in some detail. We present explicit NLO results for several interpolating pentaquark currents that have been written down in the literature. Our modular approach is easily adapted to the case of NLO corrections to multiquark correlators with an arbitrary number of quarks/antiquarks.

Charm-loop effect in $B \to K^{(*)} \ell^{+} \ell^{-}$ and $B\to K^*γ$

We calculate the long-distance effect generated by the four-quark operators with $c$-quarks in the $B\to K^{(*)} \ell^+\ell^-$ decays. At the lepton-pair invariant masses far below the $\bar{c}c$-threshold, $q^2\ll 4m_c^2$, we use OPE near the light-cone. The nonfactorizable soft-gluon emission from $c$-quarks is cast in the form of a nonlocal effective operator. The $B\to K^{(*)}$ matrix elements of this operator are calculated from the QCD light-cone sum rules with the $B$-meson distribution amplitudes. As a byproduct, we also predict the charm-loop contribution to $B\to K^*γ$ beyond the local-operator approximation. To describe the charm-loop effect at large $q^2$, we employ the hadronic dispersion relation with $ψ=J/ψ,ψ(2S), ...$ contributions, where the measured $ B\to K^{(*)}ψ$ amplitudes are used as inputs. Matching this relation to the result of QCD calculation reveals a destructive interference between the $J/ψ$ and $ψ(2S)$ contributions. The resulting charm-loop effect is represented as a $q^2$-dependent correction $ΔC_9(q^2)$ to the Wilson coefficient $C_9$. Within uncertainties of our calculation, at $q^2$ below the charmonium region the predicted ratio $ΔC_9(q^2)/C_9$ is $\leq 5% $ for $B\to K \ell^+\ell^-$, but can reach as much as 20% for $B\to K^*\ell^+\ell^-$, the difference being mainly caused by the soft-gluon contribution.

B0 - anti-B0 mixing beyond factorization

We present a calculation of the B0 - anti-B0 mixing matrix element in the framework of QCD sum rules for three-point functions. We compute alpha_s corrections to a three-point function at the three-loop level in QCD perturbation theory, which allows one to extract the matrix element with next-to-leading order (NLO) accuracy. This calculation is imperative for a consistent evaluation of experimentally-measured mixing parameters since the coefficient functions of the effective Hamiltonian for B0 - anti-B0 mixing are known at NLO. We find that radiative corrections violate factorization at NLO; this violation is under full control and amounts to 10%.

An interpolation of the vacuum polarization function for the evaluation of hadronic contributions to the muon anomalous magnetic moment

We propose a simple parameterization of the two-point correlator of hadronic electromagnetic currents for the evaluation of the hadronic contributions to the muon anomalous magnetic moment. The parameterization is explicitly done in the Euclidean domain. The model function contains a phenomenological parameter which provides an infrared cutoff to guarantee the smooth behavior of the correlator at the origin in accordance with experimental data in e+ e- annihilation. After fixing a numerical value for this parameter from the leading order hadronic contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment the next-to-leading order results related to the vacuum polarization function are accurately reproduced. The properties of the four-point correlator of hadronic electromagnetic currents as for instance the so-called light-by-light scattering amplitude relevant for the calculation of the muon anomalous magnetic moment are briefly discussed.

Calculation of the K^0-\bar{K}^0 mixing parameter via the QCD sum rules at finite energies

The QCD finite energy sum rules method is used to show that the parameter of the K^0-\bar{K}_0 mixing \hat{B} is mainly determined by the value of g m_s< \bar{d} G_{μν} σ_{μν} d > and the vacuum expectation values of four-quark operators. Assuming the hypothesis of vacuum dominance and/or unitarity symmetry to estimate latter, it is found that \hat{B}=1.2\pm 0.1. (The updated (March 2001) prediction reads \hat{B} = 1.0 +- 0.1 (for more details, see Comments after the main text).

Heavy quark induced effective action for gauge fields in the SU(N_c) x U(1) model and the low-energy structure of heavy quark current correlators

We calculate the low-energy limit of heavy quark current correlators within an expansion in the inverse heavy quark mass. The induced low-energy currents built from the gluon fields corresponding to the initial heavy quark currents are obtained from an effective action for gauge fields in the one-loop approximation at the leading order of the 1/m expansion. Explicit formulae for the low-energy spectra of electromagnetic and tensor heavy quark current correlators are given. Consequences of the appearance of a nonvanishing spectral density below the two-particle threshold for high precision phenomenology of heavy quarks are discussed quantitatively.

Low-energy gluon contributions to the vacuum polarization of heavy quarks

We calculate a correction to the electromagnetic current induced by a heavy quark loop. The contribution of this correction to the vacuum polarization function appears at the O(alpha_s^3) order of perturbation theory and has a qualitatively new feature -- its absorptive part starts at zero energy in contrast to other contributions where the absorptive parts start at the two-particle threshold. Our result imposes a constraint on the order n of the moments used in the heavy-quark sum rules, n<4.

Muon anomalous magnetic moment: a consistency check for the next-to-leading order hadronic contributions

A model for verifying a consistency of the next-to-leading order hadronic contributions to the muon anomalous magnetic moment with those of the leading order is proposed. A part of the next-to-leading order hadronic contributions related to the vacuum polarization is rather accurately reproduced in the model. I find a new numerical value for the light-by-light hadronic contribution that leads to agreement with recent experimental result for the muon anomalous magnetic moment.

Spectrality, coupling constant analyticity and the renormalization group

Analytic structure in the strong coupling constant that emerges for some observables in QCD after duality averaging of renormalization group improved amplitudes is discussed. It is shown that perturbation theory calculations are justified for the proper observables related to the two-point correlators of hadronic currents the analytic properties of which are well-established. A particular case of gluonic current correlators is discussed in detail.

Vacuum Saturation Hypothesis and QCD Sum Rules

The accuracy of the vacuum saturation hypothesis is discussed using the examples of vacuum expectation values of four-quark operators and the parameter $B$, which determines the short-distance contribution to the $K^0 - \bar K^0$ mixing. Note added: The approach based on sum rules in position (x-)space as elaborated in the paper is relevant and useful tool for the current phenomenology. In particular, it provides the unique possibility of direct non-perturbative estimation of the VEV's of four-quark operators renormalized in any scheme, including the MSbar one.

Configuration Space Based Recurrence Relations for Sunset-Type Diagrams

We derive recurrence relations for the calculation of multiloop sunset-type diagrams with large powers of massive propagators. The technique is formulated in configuration space and exploits the explicit form of the massive propagator raised to a given power. We write down and evaluate a convenient set of basis integrals. The method is well suited for a numerical evaluation of this class of diagrams. We give explicit analytical formulae for the basis integrals in the asymptotic regime.

Running electromagnetic coupling constant: low energy normalization and the value at M_Z

A numerical value for the running electromagnetic coupling constant in the MS scheme is calculated at the low energy normalization scale equal to the tau-lepton mass M_τ. This low energy boundary value is used for running the electromagnetic coupling constant to larger scales where high precision experimental measurements can be performed. Particular scales of interest are the b-quark mass for studying the Υ-resonance physics and the Z-boson mass M_Z for high precision tests of the standard model and for the Higgs mass determination from radiative corrections. A numerical value for the running electromagnetic coupling constant at M_Z in the on-shell renormalization scheme is also given.

Asymptotic structure of perturbative series for $τ$ lepton decay observables: $m_s^2$ corrections

In a previous paper we performed an analysis of asymptotic structure of perturbation theory series for semileptonic $τ$-lepton decays in massless limit. We extend our analysis to the Cabibbo suppressed $ΔS=1$ decay modes of the $τ$ lepton. In particular we address the problem of $m_s^2$ corrections to theoretical formulas. The properties of the asymptotic behavior of the finite order perturbation theory series for the coefficient functions of the $m_s^2$ corrections are studied.

Asymptotic structure of perturbative series for tau lepton observables

We analyze tau lepton decay observables, namely moments of the hadronic spectral density in the finite energy interval (0,M_τ), within finite order perturbation theory including α_s^4 corrections. The start of asymptotic growth of perturbation theory series is found at this order in a scheme invariant manner. We establish the ultimate accuracy of finite order perturbation theory predictions and discuss the construction of optimal observables.

Coulomb resummation for $b \bar b$ system near threshold and precision determination of $\al_s$ and $m_b$.

We analyze sum rules for the $Υ$ system with resummation of threshold effects on the basis of the nonrelativistic Coulomb approximation. We find for the pole mass of the bottom quark $m_b=4.75\pm 0.04 GeV$ and for the strong coupling constant $\al_s(M_Z)=0.118\pm 0.006$. The origin of the contradiction between two recent estimates obtained within the same formal framework is clarified.

New high order relations between physical observables in perturbative QCD

We exploit the fact that within massless perturbative QCD the same Green's function determines the hadronic contribution to the $τ$ decay width and the moments of the $e^+e^-$ cross section. This allows one to obtain relations between physical observables in the two processes up to an unprecedented high order of perturbative QCD. A precision measurement of the $τ$ decay width allows one then to predict the first few moments of the spectral density in $e^+e^-$ annihilations integrated up to $s\sim m_τ^2$ with high accuracy. The proposed tests are in reach of present experimental capabilities.

Renormalization schemes and renormalons

We describe some ways how higher order corrections can reveal themselves if integrated over the infrared region. We show that in different renormalization group (RG) schemes and for some observables one has no factorial divergences. We argue that for treating things in the infrared region it is preferable to start with a RG scheme without the infrared Landau pole in the running coupling constant. The uncertainties for the $τ$ lepton width resulting from accounting for higher order corrections are discussed.

Extended analysis of the "penguin" part of $K\toππ$ amplitude

We make an attempt to clarify the role of the annihilation or "penguin" mode in the description of the $K\rightarrowππ$ decay within the Standard Model. The attention is concentrated on new operators in the effective $ΔS=1$ Hamiltonian and the violation of factorization for mesonic matrix elements of the local four-quark operators. We propose a regular method to evaluate the mesonic matrix elements of $K\rightarrowππ$ transitions based on studying three-point correlators via {\it QCD} sum rules using the chiral effective theory as an underlying low-energy model for strong interaction. Matrix elements of the {\it QCD} penguin operator are calculated within this approach. The total "penguin" contribution is found to be relatively large that improves the theoretical description of the $ΔI=1/2$ rule in non-leptonic kaon decays.

QSSR estimate of the $B_B$ parameter at next-to-leading order

We compute the leading $α_s$ corrections to the two-point correlator of the $O_{ΔB=2}$ operator which controls the $B^0 \bar B^0$ mixing. Using this result within the QCD spectral sum rules approach and some phenomenologically reasonable assumptions in the parametrization of the spectral function, we conclude that the vacuum saturation values $B_B\simeq B_{B^*}\simeq 1$ are satisfied within 15\%.
