On Rational Solutions of Dressing Chains of Even Periodicity

We develop a systematic approach to deriving rational solutions and obtaining classification of their parameters for dressing chains of even N periodicity or equivalently $A^{(1)}_{N-1}$ invariant Painlevé equations. This construction identifies rational solutions with points on orbits of fundamental shift operators acting on first-order polynomial solutions derived for dressing chains of even periodicity. We also obtain conditions for the existence of special function solutions that occur for a special class of first-order polynomial solutions. For the special case of the N=4 dressing chain equations the method yields all the known rational solutions of Painlevé V equation. They are obtained through action of shift operators on the two independent first-order polynomial solutions. The formalism naturally extends to N=6 and beyond as shown in the paper.

Automated Diagnosis of Intestinal Parasites: A new hybrid approach and its benefits

Intestinal parasites are responsible for several diseases in human beings. In order to eliminate the error-prone visual analysis of optical microscopy slides, we have investigated automated, fast, and low-cost systems for the diagnosis of human intestinal parasites. In this work, we present a hybrid approach that combines the opinion of two decision-making systems with complementary properties: ($DS_1$) a simpler system based on very fast handcrafted image feature extraction and support vector machine classification and ($DS_2$) a more complex system based on a deep neural network, Vgg-16, for image feature extraction and classification. $DS_1$ is much faster than $DS_2$, but it is less accurate than $DS_2$. Fortunately, the errors of $DS_1$ are not the same of $DS_2$. During training, we use a validation set to learn the probabilities of misclassification by $DS_1$ on each class based on its confidence values. When $DS_1$ quickly classifies all images from a microscopy slide, the method selects a number of images with higher chances of misclassification for characterization and reclassification by $DS_2$. Our hybrid system can improve the overall effectiveness without compromising efficiency, being suitable for the clinical routine -- a strategy that might be suitable for other real applications. As demonstrated on large datasets, the proposed system can achieve, on average, 94.9%, 87.8%, and 92.5% of Cohen's Kappa on helminth eggs, helminth larvae, and protozoa cysts, respectively.

Coalescence, Deformation and Bäcklund Symmetries of Painlevé IV and II Equations

We extend Painlevé IV model by adding quadratic terms to its Hamiltonian obtaining two classes of models (coalescence and deformation) that interpolate between Painlevé IV and II equations for special limits of the underlying parameters. We derive the underlying Bäcklund transformations, symmetry structure and requirements to satisfy Painlevé property.

Backlund Transformation for Integrable Hierarchies: example - mKdV Hierarchy

In this note we present explicitly the construction of the mKdV hierarchy and show that it decomposes into positive and negative graded sub-hierarchies. We extend the construction of the Backlund transformation for the sinh-Gordon model to all other positive and negative odd graded equations of motion generated by the same affine algebraic structure. Some simple examples of solutions are explicitly verified to satisfy, in a universal manner, the Backlund transformations for the first few odd (positive and negative) sub-hierarchies.

Construction of Type-II Backlund Transformation for the mKdV Hierarchy

From an algebraic construction of the mKdV hierarchy we observe that the space component of the Lax operator play a role of an universal algebraic object. This fact induces the universality of a gauge transformation that relates two field configurations of a given member of the hierarchy. Such gauge transformation generates the Backlund transformation (BT). In this paper we propose a systematic construction of Backlund Transformation for the entire mKdV hierarchy form the known Type-II BT of the sinh-Gordon theory. We explicitly construct the BT of the first few integrable models associated to positive and negative grade-time evolutions. Solutions of these transformations for several cases describing the transition from vacuum-vacuum and the vacuum to one-soliton solutions which determines the value for the auxiliary field and the the Backlund parameter respectively, independently of the model. The same follows for the scattering of two one-soliton solutions. The resultant delay is determined by a condition independent of the model considered.

Type-II super-Backlund transformation and integrable defects for the N=1 super sinh-Gordon model

A new super-Backlund transformation for the N=1 supersymmetric sinh-Gordon equation is constructed. Based on this construction we propose a type-II integrable defect for the supersymmetric sinh-Gordon model consistent with this new transformation through the Lagrangian formalism. Explicit expressions for the modified conserved energy, momentum and supercharges are also computed. In addition, we show for the model that the type-II defect can also been regarded as a pair of fused defects of a previously introduced type. The explicit derivation of the associated defect matrices is also presented as a necessary condition for the integrability of the model.

N=1 super sinh-Gordon model in the half line: Breather solutions

We examine the N=1 super sinh-Gordon (SShG) model restricted into the half line through a reduction from the defect SShG model. The Bäcklund transformations are employed to generate one-, two- and three-soliton solutions as well as a class of breathers solution for this model. The parameters of such classical solutions are shown to satisfy some contraints in order to preserve both integrability and supersymmetry properties of the original bulk theory. Additionally, previous results are recovered when performing the purely bosonic limit.

The algebraic structure behind the derivative nonlinear Schroedinger equation

The Kaup-Newell (KN) hierarchy contains the derivative nonlinear Schr\" odinger equation (DNLSE) amongst others interesting and important nonlinear integrable equations. In this paper, a general higher grading affine algebraic construction of integrable hierarchies is proposed and the KN hierarchy is established in terms of a $\hat{s\ell}_2$ Kac-Moody algebra and principal gradation. In this form, our spectral problem is linear in the spectral parameter. The positive and negative flows are derived, showing that some interesting physical models arise from the same algebraic structure. For instance, the DNLSE is obtained as the second positive, while the Mikhailov model as the first negative flows, respectively. The equivalence between the latter and the massive Thirring model is explicitly demonstrated also. The algebraic dressing method is employed to construct soliton solutions in a systematic manner for all members of the hierarchy. Finally, the equivalence of the spectral problem introduced in this paper with the usual one, which is quadratic in the spectral parameter, is achieved by setting a particular automorphism of the affine algebra, which maps the homogeneous into principal gradation.

The higher grading structure of the WKI hierarchy and the two-component short pulse equation

A higher grading affine algebraic construction of integrable hierarchies, containing the Wadati-Konno-Ichikawa (WKI) hierarchy as a particular case, is proposed. We show that a two-component generalization of the Sch\" afer-Wayne short pulse equation arises quite naturally from the first negative flow of the WKI hierarchy. Some novel integrable nonautonomous models are also proposed. The conserved charges, both local and nonlocal, are obtained from the Riccati form of the spectral problem. The loop-soliton solutions of the WKI hierarchy are systematically constructed through gauge followed by reciprocal B\" acklund transformation, establishing the precise connection between the whole WKI and AKNS hierarchies. The connection between the short pulse equation with the sine-Gordon model is extended to a correspondence between the two-component short pulse equation and the Lund-Regge model.

Nonvanishing boundary condition for the mKdV hierarchy and the Gardner equation

A Kac-Moody algebra construction for the integrable hierarchy containing the Gardner equation is proposed. Solutions are systematically constructed employing the dressing method and deformed vertex operators which takes into account the nonvanishing boundary value problem for the mKdV hierarchy. Explicit examples are given and besides usual KdV like solitons, our solutions contemplate the large amplitude table-top solitons, kinks, dark solitons, breathers and wobbles.

Type-II Bäcklund Transformations via Gauge Transformations

The construction of type II Backlund transformation for the sine-Gordon and the Tzitzeica-Bullough-Dodd models are obtained from gauge transformation. An infinite number of conserved quantities are constructed from the defect matrices. This guarantees that the introduction of type II defects for these models does not spoil their integrability. In particular, modified energy and momentum are derived and compared with those presented in recent literature.

Grassmanian and Bosonic Thirring Models with Jump Defects

In this paper we discuss the Lax formulation of the Grassmanian and Bosonic Thirring models in the presence of jump defects. For the Grassmanian case, the defect is described by Bäcklund transformation which is responsible for preserving the integrability of the model. We then propose an extension of the Bäcklund transformation for the Bosonic Thirring model which is verified by some Bäcklund transitions like Vacuum-One soliton, One soliton - One soliton, One soliton - Two solitons and Two solitons - Two solitons. The Lax formulation within the space split by the defect leads to the integrability of Bosonic Thirring model.

Nonautonomous mixed mKdV-sinh-Gordon hierarchy

The construction of a nonautonomous mixed mKdV/sine-Gordon model is proposed by employing an infinite dimensional affine Lie algebraic structure within the zero curvature representation. A systematic construction of soliton solutions is provided by an adaptation of the dressing method which takes into account arbitrary time dependent functions. A particular choice of those arbitrary functions provides an interesting solution describing the transition of a pure mKdV system into a pure sine-Gordon soliton.

Negative Even Grade mKdV Hierarchy and its Soliton Solutions

In this paper we provide an algebraic construction for the negative even mKdV hierarchy which gives rise to time evolutions associated to even graded Lie algebraic structure. We propose a modification of the dressing method, in order to incorporate a non-trivial vacuum configuration and construct a deformed vertex operator for $\hat{sl}(2)$, that enable us to obtain explicit and systematic solutions for the whole negative even grade equations.

On negative flows of the AKNS hierarchy and a class of deformations of bihamiltonian structure of hydrodynamic type

A deformation parameter of a bihamiltonian structure of hydrodynamic type is shown to parameterize different extensions of the AKNS hierarchy to include negative flows. This construction establishes a purely algebraic link between, on the one hand, two realizations of the first negative flow of the AKNS model and, on the other, two-component generalizations of Camassa-Holm and Dym type equations. The two-component generalizations of Camassa-Holm and Dym type equations can be obtained from the negative order Hamiltonians constructed from the Lenard relations recursively applied on the Casimir of the first Poisson bracket of hydrodynamic type. The positive order Hamiltonians, which follow from Lenard scheme applied on the Casimir of the second Poisson bracket of hydrodynamic type, are shown to coincide with the Hamiltonians of the AKNS model. The AKNS Hamiltonians give rise to charges conserved with respect to equations of motion of two-component Camassa-Holm and two-component Dym type equations.

Supersymmetry and the KdV equations for Integrable Hierarchies with a Half-integer Gradation

Supersymmetry is formulated for integrable models based on the $sl(2|1)$ loop algebra endowed with a principal gradation. The symmetry transformations which have half-integer grades generate supersymmetry. The $sl(2|1)$ loop algebra leads to N=2 supersymmetric mKdV and sinh-Gordon equations. The corresponding N=1 mKdV and sinh-Gordon equations are obtained via reduction induced by twisted automorphism. Our method allows for a description of a non-local symmetry structure of supersymmetric integrable models.

Multicharged Dyonic Integrable Models

We introduce and study new integrable models of A_n^{(1)}-Non-Abelian Toda type which admit U(1)\otimes U(1) charged topological solitons. They correspond to the symmetry breaking SU(n+1) \to SU(2)\otimes SU(2)\otimes U(1)^{n-2} and are conjectured to describe charged dyonic domain walls of N=1 SU(n+1) SUSY gauge theory in large n limit. It is shown that this family of relativistic IMs corresponds to the first negative grade q={-1} member of a dyonic hierarchy of generalized cKP type. The explicit relation between the 1-soliton solutions (and the conserved charges as well) of the IMs of grades q=-1 and q=2 is found. The properties of the IMs corresponding to more general symmetry breaking SU(n+1) \to SU(2)^{\otimes p}\otimes U(1)^{n-p} as well as IM with global SU(2) symmetries are discussed.

Soliton Spectrum of Integrable Models with Local Symmetries

The soliton spectrum (massive and massless) of a family of integrable models with local U(1) and U(1)\otimes U(1) symmetries is studied. These models represent relevant integrable deformations of SL(2,R) \otimes U(1)^{n-1} - WZW and SL(2,R) \otimes SL(2,R)\otimes U(1)^{n-2} - WZW models. Their massless solitons appears as specific topological solutions of the U(1) (or U(1)\otimes U(1)) - CFTs. The nonconformal analog of the GKO-coset formula is derived and used in the construction of the composite massive solitons of the ungauged integrable models.

Dyonic Integrable Models

A class of non abelian affine Toda models arising from the axial gauged two-loop WZW model is presented. Their zero curvature representation is constructed in terms of a graded Kac-Moody algebra. It is shown that the discrete multivacua structure of the potential together with non abelian nature of the zero grade subalgebra allows soliton solutions with non trivial electric and topological charges. The dressing transformation is employed to explicitly construct one and two soliton solutions and their bound states in terms of the tau functions. A discussion of the classical spectra of such solutions and the time delays are given in detail.

Integrable Hierarchy for Multidimensional Toda Equations and Topological-Anti-topological Fusion

The negative symmetry flows are incorporated into the Riemann-Hilbert problem for the homogeneous $A_m$-hierarchy and its $\hat{gl} (m+1, C)$ extension. A loop group automorphism of order two is used to define a sub-hierarchy of $\hat{gl} (m+1, C)$ hierarchy containing only the odd symmetry flows. The positive and negative flows of the $\pm 1$ grade coincide with equations of the multidimensional Toda model and of topological-anti-topological fusion.

The complex Sine-Gordon equation as a symmetry flow of the AKNS Hierarchy

It is shown how the complex sine-Gordon equation arises as a symmetry flow of the AKNS hierarchy. The AKNS hierarchy is extended by the ``negative'' symmetry flows forming the Borel loop algebra. The complex sine-Gordon and the vector Nonlinear Schrodinger equations appear as lowest negative and second positive flows within the extended hierarchy. This is fully analogous to the well-known connection between the sine-Gordon and mKdV equations within the extended mKdV hierarchy. A general formalism for a Toda-like symmetry occupying the ``negative'' sector of sl(N) constrained KP hierarchy and giving rise to the negative Borel sl(N) loop algebra is indicated.

Classical and Quantum $V$-algebras

The problem of the classification of the extensions of the Virasoro algebra is discussed. It is shown that all $H$-reduced $\hat{\cal G}_{r}$-current algebras belong to one of the following basic algebraic structures: local quadratic $W$-algebras, rational $U$-algebras, nonlocal $V$-algebras, nonlocal quadratic $WV$-algebras and rational nonlocal $UV$-algebras. The main new features of the quantum $V$-algebras and their heighest weight representations are demonstrated on the example of the quantum $V_{3}^{(1,1)}$-algebra.

Some comments on the bi(tri)-Hamiltonian structure of Generalized AKNS and DNLS hierarchies

We give the correct prescriptions for the terms involving the inverse of the derivative of the delta function, in the Hamiltonian structures of the AKNS and DNLS systems, in order for the Jacobi identities to hold. We also establish that the sl(2) AKNS and DNLS systems are tri-Hamiltonians and construct two compatible Hamiltonian structures for the sl(3) AKNS system. We also give a derivation of the recursion operator for the sl(n+1) DNLS system.

Constrained KP Models as Integrable Matrix Hierarchies

We formulate the constrained KP hierarchy (denoted by \cKP$_{K+1,M}$) as an affine ${\widehat {sl}} (M+K+1)$ matrix integrable hierarchy generalizing the Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchy. Using an algebraic approach, including the graded structure of the generalized Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchy, we are able to find several new universal results valid for the \cKP hierarchy. In particular, our method yields a closed expression for the second bracket obtained through Dirac reduction of any untwisted affine Kac-Moody current algebra. An explicit example is given for the case ${\widehat {sl}} (M+K+1)$, for which a closed expression for the general recursion operator is also obtained. We show how isospectral flows are characterized and grouped according to the semisimple {\em non-regular} element $E$ of $sl (M+K+1)$ and the content of the center of the kernel of $E$.

New Phenomenon of Nonlinear Regge Trajectory and Quantum Dual String Theory

The relation between the spin and the mass of an infinite number of particles in a $q$-deformed dual string theory is studied. For the deformation parameter $q$ a root of unity, in addition to the relation of such values of $q$ with the rational conformal field theory, the Fock space of each oscillator mode in the Fubini-Veneziano operator formulation becomes truncated. Thus, based on general physical grounds, the resulting spin-(mass)$^2$ relation is expected to be below the usual linear trajectory. For such specific values of $q$, we find that the linear Regge trajectory turns into a square-root trajectory as the mass increases.

Generalized Miura Transformations, Two-Boson KP Hierarchies and their Reduction to KDV Hierarchies

Bracket preserving gauge equivalence is established between several two-boson generated KP type of hierarchies. These KP hierarchies reduce under symplectic reduction (via Dirac constraints) to KdV, mKdV and Schwarzian KdV hierarchies. Under this reduction the gauge equivalence is taking form of the conventional Miura maps between the above KdV type of hierarchies.

Supersymmetric Construction of W-Algebras from Super Toda and Wznw Theories

A systematic construction of super W-algebras in terms of the WZNW model based on a super Lie algebra is presented. These are shown to be the symmetry structure of the super Toda models, which can be obtained from the WZNW theory by Hamiltonian reduction. A classification, according to the conformal spin defined by an improved energy-momentum tensor, is dicussed in general terms for all super Lie algebras whose simple roots are fermionic . A detailed discussion employing the Dirac bracket structure and an explicit construction of W-algebras for the cases of $OSP(1,2)$, $OSP(2,2)$ , $OSP(3,2)$ and $D(2,1 \mid α)$ are given. The $N=1$ and $N=2$ super conformal algebras are discussed in the pertinent cases.
