On Rational Solutions of Dressing Chains of Even Periodicity

We develop a systematic approach to deriving rational solutions and obtaining classification of their parameters for dressing chains of even N periodicity or equivalently AN−1(1)A^{(1)}_{N-1} invariant Painlevé equations. This construction identifies rational solutions with points on orbits of fundamental shift operators acting on first-order polynomial solutions derived for dressing chains of even periodicity. We also obtain conditions for the existence of special function solutions that occur for a special class of first-order polynomial solutions. For the special case of the N=4 dressing chain equations the method yields all the known rational solutions of Painlevé V equation. They are obtained through action of shift operators on the two independent first-order polynomial solutions. The formalism naturally extends to N=6 and beyond as shown in the paper.

On negative flows of the AKNS hierarchy and a class of deformations of bihamiltonian structure of hydrodynamic type

A deformation parameter of a bihamiltonian structure of hydrodynamic type is shown to parameterize different extensions of the AKNS hierarchy to include negative flows. This construction establishes a purely algebraic link between, on the one hand, two realizations of the first negative flow of the AKNS model and, on the other, two-component generalizations of Camassa-Holm and Dym type equations. The two-component generalizations of Camassa-Holm and Dym type equations can be obtained from the negative order Hamiltonians constructed from the Lenard relations recursively applied on the Casimir of the first Poisson bracket of hydrodynamic type. The positive order Hamiltonians, which follow from Lenard scheme applied on the Casimir of the second Poisson bracket of hydrodynamic type, are shown to coincide with the Hamiltonians of the AKNS model. The AKNS Hamiltonians give rise to charges conserved with respect to equations of motion of two-component Camassa-Holm and two-component Dym type equations.

Supersymmetry and the KdV equations for Integrable Hierarchies with a Half-integer Gradation

Supersymmetry is formulated for integrable models based on the sl(2∣1)sl(2|1) loop algebra endowed with a principal gradation. The symmetry transformations which have half-integer grades generate supersymmetry. The sl(2∣1)sl(2|1) loop algebra leads to N=2 supersymmetric mKdV and sinh-Gordon equations. The corresponding N=1 mKdV and sinh-Gordon equations are obtained via reduction induced by twisted automorphism. Our method allows for a description of a non-local symmetry structure of supersymmetric integrable models.

Integrable Hierarchy for Multidimensional Toda Equations and Topological-Anti-topological Fusion

The negative symmetry flows are incorporated into the Riemann-Hilbert problem for the homogeneous AmA_m-hierarchy and its gl^(m+1,C)\hat{gl} (m+1, C) extension. A loop group automorphism of order two is used to define a sub-hierarchy of gl^(m+1,C)\hat{gl} (m+1, C) hierarchy containing only the odd symmetry flows. The positive and negative flows of the ±1\pm 1 grade coincide with equations of the multidimensional Toda model and of topological-anti-topological fusion.

The complex Sine-Gordon equation as a symmetry flow of the AKNS Hierarchy

It is shown how the complex sine-Gordon equation arises as a symmetry flow of the AKNS hierarchy. The AKNS hierarchy is extended by the ``negative'' symmetry flows forming the Borel loop algebra. The complex sine-Gordon and the vector Nonlinear Schrodinger equations appear as lowest negative and second positive flows within the extended hierarchy. This is fully analogous to the well-known connection between the sine-Gordon and mKdV equations within the extended mKdV hierarchy. A general formalism for a Toda-like symmetry occupying the ``negative'' sector of sl(N) constrained KP hierarchy and giving rise to the negative Borel sl(N) loop algebra is indicated.

Constrained KP Hierarchies: Additional Symmetries, Darboux-Bäcklund Solutions and Relations to Multi-Matrix Models

This paper provides a systematic description of the interplay between a specific class of reductions denoted as \cKPrm (r,m≥1r,m \geq 1) of the primary continuum integrable system -- the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili ({\sf KP}) hierarchy and discrete multi-matrix models. The relevant integrable \cKPrm structure is a generalization of the familiar rr-reduction of the full {\sf KP} hierarchy to the SL(r)SL(r) generalized KdV hierarchy cKPr,0{\sf cKP}_{r,0}. The important feature of \cKPrm hierarchies is the presence of a discrete symmetry structure generated by successive Darboux-Bäcklund (DB) transformations. This symmetry allows for expressing the relevant tau-functions as Wronskians within a formalism which realizes the tau-functions as DB orbits of simple initial solutions. In particular, it is shown that any DB orbit of a cKPr,1{\sf cKP}_{r,1} defines a generalized 2-dimensional Toda lattice structure. Furthermore, we consider the class of truncated {\sf KP} hierarchies ({\sl i.e.}, those defined via Wilson-Sato dressing operator with a finite truncated pseudo-differential series) and establish explicitly their close relationship with DB orbits of \cKPrm hierarchies. This construction is relevant for finding partition functions of the discrete multi-matrix models. The next important step involves the reformulation of the familiar non-isospectral additional symmetries of the full {\sf KP} hierarchy so that their action on \cKPrm hierarchies becomes consistent with the constraints of the reduction. Moreover, we show that the correct modified additional symmetries are compatible with the discrete DB symmetry on the \cKPrm DB orbits. The above technical arsenal is subsequently applied to obtain complete

Constrained KP Models as Integrable Matrix Hierarchies

We formulate the constrained KP hierarchy (denoted by \cKPK+1,M_{K+1,M}) as an affine sl^(M+K+1){\widehat {sl}} (M+K+1) matrix integrable hierarchy generalizing the Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchy. Using an algebraic approach, including the graded structure of the generalized Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchy, we are able to find several new universal results valid for the \cKP hierarchy. In particular, our method yields a closed expression for the second bracket obtained through Dirac reduction of any untwisted affine Kac-Moody current algebra. An explicit example is given for the case sl^(M+K+1){\widehat {sl}} (M+K+1), for which a closed expression for the general recursion operator is also obtained. We show how isospectral flows are characterized and grouped according to the semisimple {\em non-regular} element EE of sl(M+K+1)sl (M+K+1) and the content of the center of the kernel of EE.
