Chilean configuration of conics, lines and points

Using the theory of rational elliptic fibrations, we construct and discuss a one parameter family of configurations of $12$ conics and $9$ points in the projective plane that realizes an abstract configuration $(12_6,9_8)$. This is analogous to the famous Hesse configuration of $12$ lines and $9$ points forming an abstract configuration $(12_3,9_4)$. We also show that any Halphen elliptic fibration of index $2$ with four triangular singular fibers arises from such configuration of conics.

Orbital counting of curves on algebraic surfaces and sphere packings

We realize the Apollonian group associated to an integral Apollonian circle packings, and some of its generalizations, as a group of automorphisms of an algebraic surface. Borrowing some results in the theory of orbit counting, we study the asymptotic of the growth of degrees of elements in the orbit of a curve on an algebraic surface with respect to a geometrically finite group of its automorphisms.

Rational surfaces with a large group of automorphisms

We classify rational surfaces for which the image of the automorphisms group in the group of linear transformations of the Picard group is the largest possible. This answers a question raised by Arthur Coble in 1928, and can be rephrased in terms of periodic orbits of a birational action of an infinite Coxeter group on ordered point sets in the projective plane modulo projective equivalence. We also outline the classification of non-rational surfaces with large automorphism groups.
