A Unified Framework for Campaign Performance Forecasting in Online Display Advertising

Advertisers usually enjoy the flexibility to choose criteria like target audience, geographic area and bid price when planning an campaign for online display advertising, while they lack forecast information on campaign performance to optimize delivery strategies in advance, resulting in a waste of labour and budget for feedback adjustments. In this paper, we aim to forecast key performance indicators for new campaigns given any certain criteria. Interpretable and accurate results could enable advertisers to manage and optimize their campaign criteria. There are several challenges for this very task. First, platforms usually offer advertisers various criteria when they plan an advertising campaign, it is difficult to estimate campaign performance unifiedly because of the great difference among bidding types. Furthermore, complex strategies applied in bidding system bring great fluctuation on campaign performance, making estimation accuracy an extremely tough problem. To address above challenges, we propose a novel Campaign Performance Forecasting framework, which firstly reproduces campaign performance on historical logs under various bidding types with a unified replay algorithm, in which essential auction processes like match and rank are replayed, ensuring the interpretability on forecast results. Then, we innovatively introduce a multi-task learning method to calibrate the deviation of estimation brought by hard-to-reproduce bidding strategies in replay. The method captures mixture calibration patterns among related forecast indicators to map the estimated results to the true ones, improving both accuracy and efficiency significantly. Experiment results on a dataset from Taobao.com demonstrate that the proposed framework significantly outperforms other baselines by a large margin, and an online A/B test verifies its effectiveness in the real world.

Tunable optical bistability in grapheme Tamm plasmon/Bragg reflector hybrid structure at terahertz frequencies

We propose a composite multilayer structure consist of graphene Tamm plasmon and Bragg reflector with defect layer to realize the low threshold and tunable optical bistability (OB) at the terahertz frequencies. This low-threshold OB originates from the couple of the Tamm plasmon (TP) and the defect mode (DM). We discuss the influence of graphene and the DM on the hysteretic response of the TM-polarized reflected light. It is found that the switch-up and switch-down threshold required to observe the optical bistable behavior are lowered markedly due to the excitation of the TP and DM. Besides, the switching threshold value can be further reduced by coupling the TP and DM. We believe these results will provide a new avenue for realizing the low threshold and tunable optical bistable devices and other nonlinear optical devices.

Investment and Consumption with Regime-Switching Discount Rates

This paper considers the problem of consumption and investment in a financial market within a continuous time stochastic economy. The investor exhibits a change in the discount rate. The investment opportunities are a stock and a riskless account. The market coefficients and discount factor switch according to a finite state Markov chain. The change in the discount rate leads to time inconsistencies of the investor's decisions. The randomness in our model is driven by a Brownian motion and a Markov chain. Following Ekeland and Pirvu we introduce and characterize the subgame perfect strategies. Numerical experiments show the effect of time preference on subgame perfect strategies and the pre-commitment strategies.

A Multi Period Equilibrium Pricing Model

In this paper, we propose an equilibrium pricing model in a dynamic multi-period stochastic framework with uncertain income streams. In an incomplete market, there exist two traded risky assets (e.g. stock/commodity and weather derivative) and a non-traded underlying (e.g. temperature). The risk preferences are of exponential (CARA) type with a stochastic coefficient of risk aversion. Both time consistent and time inconsistent trading strategies are considered. We obtain the equilibriums prices of a contingent claim written on the risky asset and non-traded underlying. By running numerical experiments we examine how the equilibriums prices vary in response to changes in model parameters.

On Investment-Consumption with Regime-Switching

In a continuous time stochastic economy, this paper considers the problem of consumption and investment in a financial market in which the representative investor exhibits a change in the discount rate. The investment opportunities are a stock and a riskless account. The market coefficients and discount factor switches according to a finite state Markov chain. The change in the discount rate leads to time inconsistencies of the investor's decisions. The randomness in our model is driven by a Brownian motion and Markov chain. Following Ekeland etc (2008) we introduce and characterize the equilibrium policies for power utility functions. Moreover, they are computed in closed form for logarithmic utility function. We show that a higher discount rate leads to a higher equilibrium consumption rate. Numerical experiments show the effect of both time preference and risk aversion on the equilibrium policies.

Utility Indifference Pricing: A Time Consistent Approach

This paper considers the optimal portfolio selection problem in a dynamic multi-period stochastic framework with regime switching. The risk preferences are of exponential (CARA) type with an absolute coefficient of risk aversion which changes with the regime. The market model is incomplete and there are two risky assets: one tradable and one non-tradable. In this context, the optimal investment strategies are time inconsistent. Consequently, the subgame perfect equilibrium strategies are considered. The utility indifference prices of a contingent claim written on the risky assets are computed via an indifference valuation algorithm. By running numerical experiments, we examine how these prices vary in response to changes in model parameters.
