Probing Neutral Triple Gauge Couplings with $Z^* γ\, (ν\bar νγ)$ Production at Hadron Colliders

We study probes of neutral triple gauge couplings (nTGCs) via $Z^*γ$ production followed by off-shell decays $Z^*\toν\barν$ at the LHC and future $pp$ colliders, including both CP-conserving (CPC) and CP-violating (CPV) couplings. We present the dimension-8 SMEFT operators contributing to nTGCs and derive the correct form factor formulation for the off-shell vertices $Z^*γV^*$ ($V=Z,γ$) by matching them with the dimension-8 SMEFT operators. Our analysis includes new contributions enhanced by the large off-shell momentum of $Z^*$, beyond those of the conventional $ZγV^*$ vertices with on-shell $Zγ$. We analyze the sensitivity reaches for probing the CPC/CPV nTGC form factors and the new physics scales of the dimension-8 nTGC operators at the LHC and future 100TeV $pp$ colliders. We compare our new predictions with the existing LHC measurements of CPC nTGCs in the $ν\barνγ$ channel and demonstrate the importance of our new method.

GeV Scale Inelastic Dark Matter with Dark Photon Mediator via Direct Detection and Cosmological/Laboratory Constraints

We propose a new candidate of GeV scale inelastic dark matter (DM). Our construction has an anomaly-free $U(1)_X^{}$ gauge group with dark photon mediator, and can realize either scalar or fermionic inelastic DM. It is highly predictive and testable. We study the scattering rate of light inelastic DM with electrons in the XENON1T experiment and with nuclei in the XENON1T, CRESST-III, CDEX-1B and DarkSide-50 experiments. We resolve the recent XENON1T anomaly via electron recoil detection. Combining the XENON1T constraints from both electron recoils and nuclear recoils (including Migdal effect), we predict the inelastic DM mass $\lesssim 1.5$GeV. We further analyze the bounds by the DM relic abundance, the lifetime of the heavier DM component, and laboratory constraints, from which we identify the viable parameter space for the future probe. This provides an important benchmark for the theories and experimental tests of GeV scale inelastic DM.

Gravitational Equivalence Theorem and Double-Copy for Kaluza-Klein Graviton Scattering Amplitudes

We analyze the structure of scattering amplitudes of the Kaluza-Klein (KK) gravitons and of the KK gravitational Goldstone bosons in the compactified 5d General Relativity (GR). Using a general $R_ξ$ gauge-fixing, we study the geometric Higgs mechanism for the massive spin-2 KK gravitons. We newly propose and prove a Gravitational Equivalence Theorem (GRET) to connect the scattering amplitudes of longitudinal KK gravitons to that of the KK gravitational Goldstone bosons, which formulates the geometric gravitational Higgs mechanism at the scattering $S$-matrix level. We demonstrate that the GRET provides a general energy-cancellation mechanism guaranteeing the $N$-point longitudinal KK graviton scattering amplitudes to have their leading energy dependence cancelled down by a large power factor of $E^{2N}$ ($N \geq 4$) up to any loop order. We propose an extended double-copy approach to construct the massive KK graviton (Goldstone) amplitudes from the KK gauge boson (Goldstone) amplitudes. With these we establish a new correspondence between the two types of energy cancellations in the four-point longitudinal KK amplitudes at tree level: $E^4\to E^0$ in the KK gauge theory and $E^{10} \to E^2$ in the KK GR theory.

Scattering Amplitudes of Kaluza-Klein Strings and Extended Massive Double-Copy

We study the scattering amplitudes of massive Kaluza-Klein (KK) states of open and closed bosonic strings under toroidal compactification. We analyze the structure of vertex operators for the KK strings and derive an extended massive KLT-like relation which connects the $N$-point KK closed-string amplitude to the products of two KK open-string amplitudes at tree level. Taking the low energy field-theory limit of vanishing Regge slope, we derive double-copy construction formula of the $N$-point massive KK graviton amplitude from the sum of proper products of the corresponding KK gauge boson amplitudes. Then, using the string-based massive double-copy formula, we derive the exact tree-level four-point KK gauge boson amplitudes and KK graviton amplitudes, which fully agree with those given by the KK field-theory calculations. With these, we give an explicit prescription on constructing the exact four-point KK graviton amplitudes from the sum of proper products of the corresponding color-ordered KK gauge boson amplitudes. We further analyze the string-based double-copy construction of five-point and six-point scattering amplitudes of massive KK gauge bosons and KK gravitons.

Structure of Kaluza-Klein Graviton Scattering Amplitudes from Gravitational Equivalence Theorem and Double-Copy

We study the structure of scattering amplitudes of the Kaluza-Klein (KK) gravitons and of the gravitational KK Goldstone bosons in the compactified 5d General Relativity (GR). We analyze the geometric "Higgs" mechanism for mass-generation of KK gravitons under compactification with a general $R_ξ$ gauge-fixing, which is free from the vDVZ discontinuity. Then, we formulate the Gravitational Equivalence Theorem (GRET) to connect the longitudinal KK graviton amplitudes to the KK Goldstone amplitudes, which is a manifestation of the geometric Higgs mechanism at $S$-matrix level. We directly compute the tree-level KK Goldstone amplitudes which equal the longitudinal KK graviton amplitudes in the high energy limit. We further extend the double-copy method with color-kinematics duality to reconstruct the massive KK longitudinal graviton (Goldstone) amplitudes from the KK longitudinal gauge boson (Goldstone) amplitudes in the compactified 5d Yang-Mills (YM) theory under high energy expansion. From these, we reconstruct the GRET of the KK longitudinal graviton (Goldstone) amplitudes in the 5d GR from the KK longitudinal gauge boson (Goldstone) amplitudes in the 5d YM theory. Using either the GRET or the double-copy reconstruction, we provide a theoretical mechanism showing that the sum of all the energy-power terms [up to $O(E^{10})$] in the high-energy four longitudinal KK graviton amplitudes must cancel down to $O(E^2)$ as enforced by matching the energy-power dependence of the corresponding KK Goldstone amplitudes or by matching that of the double-copy amplitudes from the KK YM theory. With the double-copy approach, we establish a new correspondence between the two energy-cancellations: $E^4 \to E^0$ in the 5d KK YM theory and $E^{10} \to E^2$ in the 5d KK GR theory. We further analyze the structure of the residual terms in the GRET and uncover a new energy-cancellation mechanism therein.

EFT Approach of Inelastic Dark Matter for Xenon Electron Recoil Detection

Measuring dark matter (DM) signals via electron recoil provides an important means for direct detection of light DM particles. The recent XENON1T anomaly with electron recoil energy around $\,E_R^{}\!=\!(2-3)$keV can be naturally explained by DM inelastic scattering which injects energy to the recoiled electrons and gives a narrow peak structure in the recoil spectrum. We present an effective field theory (EFT) approach to exothermic inelastic DM signals for the Xenon electron recoil detection. For relatively heavy mediator, we fairly formulate the DM-lepton interactions by effective contact operators with two DM fields $(X,\,X')$ and two leptons. Using the XENON1T data, we fit the electron recoil spectrum and constrain the allowed scalar DM mass-splitting as $\,2.1\,\text{keV}\!<\!Δm\!<\!3.3\,\text{keV}$ (95%C.L.), with the best fit $\,Δm \!=\! 2.8$keV. We analyze the relic abundance produced by such effective DM-electron contact interaction. To provide both the DM relic abundance and the XENON1T excess, we derive new constraints on the DM mass and the UV cutoff scale of DM effective interactions. Finally, we study possible UV completions for the effective DM-lepton contact interactions.

Probing Flavor Structure of Cosmic Ray $e^\mp$ Spectrum and Implications for Dark Matter Indirect Searches

Measuring high energy cosmic ray electrons/positrons (CRE) provides important means for the dark matter (DM) indirect detection and for probing the nearby galactic sources. In this work, we perform a systematic analysis of the flavor structure of DM annihilations into charged leptons based on the cosmic ray CRE spectra measured by DAMPE, Fermi-LAT, AMS-02, and CALET experiments. We study the annihilations of possible TeV scale DM particles in a nearby subhalo, which is proposed to explain the possible peak-like structure of the DAMPE CRE data. We pay special attention to the possible non-resonant excess (besides the possible peak-like structure) and demonstrate that such non-resonant excess can mainly arise from the decay of muons produced by the DM annihilations in the subhalo. With these we study the flavor composition of the lepton final states from DM annihilations $χχ\to e^+e^-, μ^+μ^-, τ^+τ^-$ by fitting the CRE data. We demonstrate that decays of the final states $μ^+ μ^-$ and $τ^+ τ^-$ can provide the non-resonant excess, while the peak excess arises from the $e^+ e^-$ final state. We further analyze the constraints on the lepton flavor composition using the Fermi-LAT $γ$-ray measurements. We find that the flavor composition is consistent with the Fermi-LAT data at relatively low Galactic latitudes, while the fraction of the final state $τ^\pm$ is severely bounded.

Probing New Physics in Dimension-8 Neutral Gauge Couplings at $e^+e^-$ Colliders

Neutral triple gauge couplings (nTGCs) are absent in the standard model effective theory up to dimension-6 operators, but could arise from dimension-8 effective operators. In this work, we study the pure gauge operators of dimension-8 that contribute to nTGCs and are independent of the dimension-8 operator involving the Higgs doublet. We show that the pure gauge operators generate both $ZγZ^*$ and $Zγγ^*$ vertices with rapid energy dependence $\propto E^5$, which can be probed sensitively via the reaction $e^+e^- \to Zγ$. We demonstrate that measuring the nTGCs via the reaction $e^+e^- \to Zγ$ followed by $Z \to q\bar{q}$ decays can probe the new physics scales of dimension-8 pure gauge operators up to the range $(1-5)$TeV at the CEPC, FCC-ee and ILC colliders with $\sqrt{s}=(0.25-1)$TeV, and up to the range $(10-16)$TeV at CLIC with $\sqrt{s}=(3-5)$TeV, assuming in each case an integrated luminosity of 5/ab. We compare these sensitivities with the corresponding probes of the dimension-8 nTGC operators involving Higgs doublets and the dimension-8 fermionic contact operators that contribute to the $e^+e^-Zγ$ vertex.

Probing the Scale of New Physics in the $ZZγ$ Coupling at $e^+e^-$ Colliders

The $ZZγ$ triple neutral gauge couplings are absent in the Standard Model (SM) at the tree level. They receive no contributions from dimension-6 effective operators, but can arise from effective operators of dimension-8. We study the scale of new physics associated with such dimension-8 operators that can be probed by measuring the reaction $e^+e^-\to Zγ$, followed by $Z \to \ell\bar{\ell},ν\barν$ decays, at future $e^+e^-$ colliders including the ILC, CEPC, FCC-ee and CLIC. We demonstrate how angular distributions of the final state mono-photon and leptons can play a key role in suppressing SM backgrounds. We further show that using electron/positron beam polarizations can significantly improve the signal sensitivities. We find that the dimension-8 new physics scale can be probed up to the multi-TeV region at such lepton colliders.

Reconciling Hubble Constant Discrepancy from Holographic Dark Energy

Holographic dark energy (HDE) describes the vacuum energy in a cosmic IR region whose total energy saturates the limit of avoiding the collapse into a black hole. HDE predicts that the dark energy equation of the state transiting from greater than the $-1$ regime to less than $-1$, accelerating the Universe slower at the early stage and faster at the late stage. We propose the HDE as a new {\it physical} resolution to the Hubble constant discrepancy between the cosmic microwave background (CMB) and local measurements. With Planck CMB and galaxy baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) data, we fit the HDE prediction of the Hubble constant as $H_0^{}\!=\, 71.54\pm1.78\,\mathrm{km\,s^{-1} Mpc^{-1}}$, consistent with local $H_0^{}$ measurements by LMC Cepheid Standards (R19) at $1.4σ$ level. Combining Planck+BAO+R19, we find the HDE parameter $c=0.51\pm0.02$ and $H_0^{}\! = 73.12\pm 1.14\,\mathrm{km \,s^{-1} Mpc^{-1}}$, which fits cosmological data at all redshifts. Future CMB and large-scale structure surveys will further test the holographic scenario.

Higgs Inflation, Reheating and Gravitino Production in No-Scale Supersymmetric GUTs

We extend our previous study of supersymmetric Higgs inflation in the context of no-scale supergravity and grand unification, to include models based on the flipped SU(5) and the Pati-Salam group. Like the previous SU(5) GUT model, these yield a class of inflation models whose inflation predictions interpolate between those of the quadratic chaotic inflation and Starobinsky-like inflation, while avoiding tension with proton decay limits. We further analyse the reheating process in these models, and derive the number of e-folds, which is independent of the reheating temperature. We derive the corresponding predictions for the scalar tilt and the tensor-to-scalar ratio in cosmic microwave background perturbations, as well as discussing the gravitino production following inflation.

Probing New Physics Scales from Higgs and Electroweak Observables at $e^+ e^-$ Higgs Factory

New physics beyond the standard model (SM) can be model-independently formulated via dimension-6 effective operators, whose coefficients (cutoffs) characterize the scales of new physics. We study the probe of new physics scales from the electroweak precision observables (EWPO) and the Higgs observables (HO) at the future $e^+e^-$ Higgs factory (such as CEPC). To optimize constraints of new physics from all available observables, we establish a scheme-independent approach. With this formulation, we treat the SM electroweak parameters and the coefficients of dimension-6 operators on equal footing, which can be fitted simultaneously by the same $χ^2$ function. As deviations from the SM are generally small, we can expand the new physics parameters up to linear order and perform an analytical $χ^2$ fit to derive the potential reach of the new physics scales. We find that the HO from both Higgs produnction and decay rates can probe the new physics scales up to 10TeV (and to 44TeV for the case of gluon-involved operator $\mathcal{O}_g$), and the new physics scales of Yukawa-type operators can be probed by the precision Higgs coupling measurements up to (13-25)TeV. Further including the EWPO can push the limit up to 35TeV. From this prospect, we demonstrate that the EWPO measured in the early phase of a Higgs factory can be as important as the Higgs observables. These indirect probes of new physics scales at the Higgs factory can mainly cover the energy range to be directly explored by the next generation hadron colliders of pp(50-100TeV), such as the SPPC and FCC-hh.

Realizing Dark Matter and Higgs Inflation in Light of LHC Diphoton Excess

LHC Run-2 has provided intriguing di-photon signals of a new resonance around 750GeV, which, if not due to statistical fluctuations, must call for new physics beyond the standard model (SM) at TeV scale. We propose a minimal extension of the SM with a complex singlet scalar $\mathcal{S}$ and a doublet of vector-like quarks. The scalar sector respects CP symmetry, with its CP-odd imaginary component $χ$ providing a natural dark matter (DM) candidate. The real component of $\mathcal{S}$ serves as the new resonance (750GeV) and explains the diphoton excess of the LHC Run-2. The new scalar degrees of freedom of $\mathcal{S}$ help to stabilize the Higgs vacuum, and can realize the Higgs inflation around GUT scale, consistent with the current cosmology observations. We construct two representative samples A and B of our model for demonstration. We study the mono-jet signals of the DM production from invisible decays Re$(\mathcal{S}) \to χχ$ at the LHC Run-2. We further derive the DM relic density bound, and analyze the constraints from direct and indirect DM detections.

Searching for Heavier Higgs Boson via Di-Higgs Production at LHC Run-2

The LHC discovery of a light Higgs particle $h^0$ (125GeV) opens up new prospect for searching heavier Higgs boson(s) at the LHC Run-2, which will unambiguously point to new physics beyond the standard model (SM). We study the detection of a heavier neutral Higgs boson $H^0$ via di-Higgs production channel at the LHC (14TeV), $H^0 \to h^0h^0 \to WW^*γγ$. This directly probes the $Hhh$ cubic Higgs interaction, which exists in most extensions of the SM Higgs sector. For the decay products of final states $WW^*$, we include both pure leptonic mode $WW^* \to \ell\barν\bar{\ell}ν$ and semi-leptonic mode $WW^* \to q\bar{q}'\ellν$. We analyze signals and backgrounds by performing fast detector simulation for the full processes $pp \to H \to hh \to WW^*γγ\to \ell\barν\bar{\ell}νγγ$ and $pp \to H \to hh \to WW^*γγ\to \ellνq\bar{q}'γγ$, over the mass range $M_H=250-600$GeV. For generic two-Higgs-doublet models (2HDM), we present the discovery reach of the heavier Higgs boson at the LHC Run-2, and compare it with the current Higgs global fit of the 2HDM parameter space.

Origin of Constrained Maximal CP Violation in Flavor Symmetry

Current data from neutrino oscillation experiments are in good agreement with $δ=-\fracπ{2}$ and $θ_{23}^{} = \fracπ{4}$. We define the notion of "constrained maximal CP violation" (CMCPV) for predicting these features and study their origin in flavor symmetry. We derive the parametrization-independent solution of CMCPV and give a set of equivalent definitions for it. We further present a theorem on how the CMCPV can be realized. This theorem takes advantage of residual symmetries in the neutrino and charged lepton mass matrices, and states that, up to a few minor exceptions, $(|δ|, θ_{23}) =(\fracπ{2}, \fracπ{4})$ is generated when those symmetries are real. The often considered $μ$-$τ$ reflection symmetry, as well as specific discrete subgroups of O(3), are special cases of our theorem.

Probing Gravitational Dark Matter

So far all evidences of dark matter (DM) come from astrophysical and cosmological observations, due to gravitational interactions of the DM. It is possible that the true DM particle in the universe joins gravitational interactions only, but nothing else. Such a Gravitational DM (GDM) acts as a weakly interacting massive particle (WIMP), which is conceptually simple and attractive. In this work, we explore this direction by constructing the simplest scalar GDM particle $χ_s$. It is a $Z_2$ odd singlet under the standard model (SM) gauge group, and naturally joins the unique dimension-4 interaction with Ricci curvature, $ξ_s χ_s^2 R$, where $ξ_s$ is the dimensionless nonminimal coupling. We demonstrate that this gravitational interaction $ξ_s χ_s^2 R$, together with Higgs-curvature nonminimal coupling term $ξ_h H^†H R$, induces effective couplings between $χ_s^2$ and SM fields which can account for the observed DM thermal relic abundance. We analyze the annihilation cross sections of GDM particles and derive the viable parameter space for realizing the DM thermal relic density. We further study the direct/indirect detections and the collider signatures of such a scalar GDM. These turn out to be highly predictive and testable.

Probing New Physics of Cubic Higgs Interaction via Higgs Pair Production at Hadron Colliders

Despite the discovery of a Higgs boson h(125GeV) at the LHC Run-1, its self-interaction has fully evaded direct experimental probe so far. Such self-interaction is vital for electroweak symmetry breaking, vacuum stability and electroweak phase transition, and Higgs inflation. It is a most likely place to encode new physics beyond the standard model. We parametrize such new physics by model-independent dimension-6 effective operators, and study their tests via Higgs pair production at hadron colliders. We analyze three major di-Higgs production channels at parton level, and compare the parameter-dependence of total cross sections and kinematic distributions at the LHC(14TeV) and pp(100TeV) hadron collider. We further perform full simulations for the di-Higgs production channel $gg\to hh \to b\bar{b}γγ$ and its backgrounds at the pp(100TeV) hadron collider. We construct four kinds of benchmark points, and study the sensitivities to probing different regions of the parameter space of cubic Higgs interactions. We find that for one-parameter analysis and with a 3/ab (30/ab) integrated luminosity, the $gg\to hh \to b\bar{b}γγ$ channel can measure the SM cubic Higgs coupling and the derivative cubic Higgs coupling to an accuracy of about 13% (4.2%) and 5% (1.6%), respectively.

Asymptotically Safe Higgs Inflation

We construct a new inflation model in which the standard model Higgs boson couples minimally to gravity and acts as the inflaton. Our construction of Higgs inflation incorporates the standard model with Einstein gravity which exhibits asymptotic safety in the ultraviolet region. The slow roll condition is satisfied at large field value due to the asymptotically safe behavior of Higgs self-coupling at high energies. We find that this minimal construction is highly predictive, and is consistent with both cosmological observations and collider experiments.

Connecting Leptonic Unitarity Triangle to Neutrino Oscillation

Leptonic unitarity triangle (LUT) provides a geometric description of CP violations in the lepton-neutrino sector and is directly measurable in principle. In this work, we reveal that the angles in the LUT have definite physical meaning, and demonstrate the exact connection of the LUT to neutrino oscillations. For the first time, we prove that these leptonic angles act as phase shifts in neutrino oscillations, by shifting Δm^{2}L/2E to Δm^{2}L/2E + α, where (L, E, α) denote the baseline length, neutrino energy and corresponding angle of the LUT. Each LUT has three independent parameters and contains only partial information of the PMNS matrix. We demonstrate that the partial information in each LUT can describe the corresponding neutrino oscillation. Hence, for the first time, we uncover that any given kind of neutrino oscillations contain at most three (rather than four) independent degrees of freedom from the PMNS matrix. This may provide a cleaner way for fitting the corresponding oscillation data.

Constraining Astrophysical Neutrino Flavor Composition from Leptonic Unitarity

The recent IceCube observation of ultra-high-energy astrophysical neutrinos has begun the era of neutrino astronomy. In this work, using the unitarity of leptonic mixing matrix, we derive nontrivial unitarity constraints on the flavor composition of astrophysical neutrinos detected by IceCube. Applying leptonic unitarity triangles, we deduce these unitarity bounds from geometrical conditions, such as triangular inequalities. These new bounds generally hold for three flavor neutrinos, and are independent of any experimental input or the pattern of leptonic mixing. We apply our unitarity bounds to derive general constraints on the flavor compositions for three types of astrophysical neutrino sources (and their general mixture), and compare them with the IceCube measurements. Furthermore, we prove that for any sources without $ν_τ$ neutrinos, a detected $ν_μ$ flux ratio $< 1/4$ will require the initial flavor composition with more $ν_e$ neutrinos than $ν_μ$ neutrinos.

Extending Higgs Inflation with TeV Scale New Physics

Higgs inflation is among the most economical and predictive inflation models, although the original Higgs inflation requires tuning the Higgs or top mass away from its current experimental value by more than $2σ$ deviations, and generally gives a negligible tensor-to-scalar ratio $r \sim 10^{-3}$ (if away from the vicinity of critical point). In this work, we construct a minimal extension of Higgs inflation, by adding only two new weak-singlet particles at TeV scale, a vector-quark $T$ and a real scalar $S$. The presence of singlets $(T, S)$ significantly impact the renormalization group running of the Higgs boson self-coupling. With this, our model provides a wider range of the tensor-to-scalar ratio $r = O(0.1 - 10^{-3})$, consistent with the favored $r$ values by either BICEP2 or Planck data, while keeping the successful prediction of the spectral index $ n_s \simeq 0.96 $. It further allows the Higgs and top masses to fully fit the collider measurements. We also discuss implications for searching the predicted TeV-scale vector-quark $T$ and scalar $S$ at the LHC and future high energy pp colliders.

Higgs Gravitational Interaction, Weak Boson Scattering, and Higgs Inflation in Jordan and Einstein Frames

We study gravitational interaction of Higgs boson through the unique dimension-4 operator $ξH^†H R$, with $H$ the Higgs doublet and $R$ the Ricci scalar curvature. We analyze the effect of this dimensionless nonminimal coupling $ξ$ on weak gauge boson scattering in both Jordan and Einstein frames. We explicitly establish the longitudinal-Goldstone boson equivalence theorem with nonzero $ξ$ coupling in both frames, and analyze the unitarity constraints. We study the $ξ$-induced weak boson scattering cross sections at O(1-30)TeV scales, and propose to probe the Higgs-gravity coupling via weak boson scattering experiments at the LHC(14TeV) and the next generation pp colliders (50-100TeV). We further extend our study to Higgs inflation, and quantitatively derive the perturbative unitarity bounds via coupled channel analysis, under large field background at the inflation scale. We analyze the unitarity constraints on the parameter space in both the conventional Higgs inflation and the improved models in light of the recent BICEP2 data.

New Higgs Inflation in a No-Scale Supersymmetric SU(5) GUT

Higgs inflation is attractive because it identifies the inflaton with the electroweak Higgs boson. In this work, we construct a new class of supersymmetric Higgs inflationary models in the no-scale supergravity with an SU(5) GUT group. Extending the no-scale Kahler potential and SU(5) GUT superpotential, we derive a generic potential for Higgs inflation that includes the quadratic monomial potential and a Starobinsky-type potential as special limits. This type of models can accommodate a wide range of the tensor-to-scalar ratio $r = O(10^{-3}-10^{-1})$, as well as a scalar spectral index $n_s \sim 0.96$.

Single-Valued Hamiltonian via Legendre-Fenchel Transformation and Time Translation Symmetry

Under conventional Legendre transformation, systems with a non-convex Lagrangian will result in a multi-valued Hamiltonian as a function of conjugate momentum. This causes problems such as non-unitary time evolution of quantum state and non-determined motion of classical particles, and is physically unacceptable. In this work, we propose a new construction of single-valued Hamiltonian by applying Legendre-Fenchel transformation, which is a mathematically rigorous generalization of conventional Legendre transformation, valid for non-convex Lagrangian systems, but not yet widely known to the physics community. With the new single-valued Hamiltonian, we study spontaneous breaking of time translation symmetry and derive its vacuum state. Applications to theories of cosmology and gravitation are discussed.

Gravitational Interaction of Higgs Boson and Weak Boson Scattering

With the LHC discovery of a 125 GeV Higgs-like boson, we study gravitational interaction of the Higgs boson via the unique dimension-4 operator involving Higgs doublet and scalar curvature, $\,ξH^†H R\,$, with nonminimal coupling $\,ξ\,$. This Higgs portal term can be transformed away in Einstein frame and induces gauge-invariant effective interactions in the Higgs sector. We study the weak boson scattering in Einstein frame, and explicitly demonstrate the longitudinal-Goldstone boson equivalence theorem in the presence of $\,ξ\,$ coupling. With these, we derive unitarity bound on the Higgs gravitational coupling $\,ξ\,$ in Einstein frame, which is stronger than that inferred from the current LHC Higgs measurements. We further study $ξ$-dependent weak boson scattering cross sections at TeV scale, and propose a new LHC probe of the Higgs-gravity coupling $\,ξ\,$ via weak boson scattering experiments.

Introduction of the CDEX experiment

Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) are the candidates of dark matter in our universe. Up to now any direct interaction of WIMP with nuclei has not been observed yet. The exclusion limits of the spin-independent cross section of WIMP-nucleon which have been experimentally obtained is about 10^{-7}pb at high mass region and only 10^{-5}pb} at low mass region. China Jin-Ping underground laboratory CJPL is the deepest underground lab in the world and provides a very promising environment for direct observation of dark matter. The China Dark Matter Experiment (CDEX) experiment is going to directly detect the WIMP flux with high sensitivity in the low mass region. Both CJPL and CDEX have achieved a remarkable progress in recent two years. The CDEX employs a point-contact germanium semi-conductor detector PCGe whose detection threshold is less than 300 eV. We report the measurement results of Muon flux, monitoring of radioactivity and Radon concentration carried out in CJPL, as well describe the structure and performance of the 1 kg PCGe detector CDEX-1 and 10kg detector array CDEX-10 including the detectors, electronics, shielding and cooling systems. Finally we discuss the physics goals of the CDEX-1, CDEX-10 and the future CDEX-1T detectors.

LHC Higgs Signatures from Topflavor Seesaw Mechanism

We study LHC Higgs signatures from topflavor seesaw realization of electroweak symmetry breaking with a minimal gauge extension SU(2) x SU(2) x U(1). This elegant renormalizable construction singles out top quark sector (instead of all other light fermions) to join the new SU(2) gauge force. It predicts extra vector-like spectator quarks (T, B), new gauge bosons (W', Z'), and a pair of neutral Higgs bosons (h, H). We demonstrate that for the lighter Higgs boson h of mass 125GeV, this model predicts modified Higgs signal rates in h --> γγ, WW*, ZZ* channels via gluon fusions, in h --> tau tau mode via vector boson fusions, and in h --> bb mode via gauge boson associate productions. We perform a global fit for our theory by including both direct search data (LHC and Tevatron) and indirect precision constraints. We further analyze the LHC discovery potential for detecting the heavier Higgs state H.

Natural Electroweak Symmetry Breaking from Scale Invariant Higgs Mechanism

We construct a minimal viable extension of the standard model (SM) with classical scale symmetry. Its scalar sector contains a complex singlet in addition to the SM Higgs doublet. The scale-invariant and CP-symmetric Higgs potential generates radiative electroweak symmetry breaking a la Coleman-Weinberg, and gives a natural solution to the hierarchy problem, free from fine-tuning. Besides the 125GeV SM-like Higgs particle, it predicts a new CP-even Higgs (serving as the pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone boson of scale symmetry breaking) and a CP-odd scalar singlet (providing the dark matter candidate) at weak scale. We systematically analyze experimental constraints from direct LHC Higgs searches and electroweak precision tests, as well as theoretical bounds from unitarity, triviality and vacuum stability. We demonstrate the viable parameter space, and discuss implications for new Higgs and dark matter (DM) searches at the upcoming LHC runs and for the on-going direct detections of DM.

We study the effects of the extended electroweak gauge sector on the signal strengths of the Higgs boson at the LHC. Extension of the Higgs sector associate with the extension of the electroweak gauge symmetry. In our setup, there are two neutral Higgs states ($h$, $H$) and three new gauge bosons ($W'^{\pm}$, $Z'$). We assume the lightest scalar, $h$, is what LHC found and its mass is 125 GeV. Spontaneous Spacetime Reduction and Unitary Weak Boson Scattering at the LHC

Theories of quantum gravity predict spacetime dimensions to become reduced at high energies, a striking phenomenon known as spontaneous dimensional reduction (SDR). We construct an effective electroweak theory based on the standard model (SM) and incorporate the TeV-scale SDR, which exhibits good high energy behavior and ensures the unitarity of weak gauge boson scattering. This also provides a natural solution to the hierarchy problem in the presence of scalar Higgs boson. We demonstrate that this model predicts unitary longitudinal weak boson scattering, and can be discriminated from the conventional 4d SM by the WW scattering experiments at the CERN LHC.

Unitary Standard Model from Spontaneous Dimensional Reduction and Weak Boson Scattering at the LHC

Spontaneous dimensional reduction (SDR) is a striking phenomenon predicted by a number of quantum gravity approaches which all indicate that the spacetime dimensions get reduced at high energies. In this work, we formulate an effective theory of electroweak interactions based upon the standard model, incorporating the spontaneous reduction of space-dimensions at TeV scale. The electroweak gauge symmetry is nonlinearly realized with or without a Higgs boson. We demonstrate that the SDR ensures good high energy behavior and predicts unitary weak boson scattering. For a light Higgs boson of mass 125GeV, the TeV-scale SDR gives a natural solution to the hierarchy problem. Such a light Higgs boson can have induced anomalous gauge couplings from the TeV-scale SDR. We find that the corresponding WW scattering cross sections become unitary at TeV scale, but exhibit different behaviors from that of the 4d standard model. These can be discriminated by the WW scattering experiments at the LHC.

Vector Bosons Signals of Electroweak Symmetry Breaking

We study the physics potential of the 8 TeV LHC to discover signals of extended gauge models or extra dimensional models whose low energy behavior is well represented by an SU(2) x SU(2) x U(1) electroweak gauge structure. We find that with a combined integrated luminosity of 40 fb^(-1), the first new Kaluza-Klein mode of the W gauge boson can be discovered up to a mass of about 400 GeV, when produced in association with a Z boson.

Common Origin of mu-tau and CP Breaking in Neutrino Seesaw, Baryon Asymmetry, and Hidden Flavor Symmetry

We conjecture that all CP violations (both Dirac and Majorana types) arise from a common origin in neutrino seesaw. With this conceptually attractive and simple conjecture, we deduce that mu-tau breaking shares the common origin with all CP violations. We study the common origin of mu-tau and CP breaking in the Dirac mass matrix of seesaw Lagrangian (with right-handed neutrinos being mu-tau blind), which uniquely leads to inverted mass-ordering of light neutrinos. We then predict a very different correlation between the two small mu-tau breaking observables theta_{13}-0 and theta_{23}-45, which can saturate the present experimental upper limit on theta_{13}. This will be tested against our previous normal mass-ordering scheme by the on-going oscillation experiments. We also analyze the correlations of theta_{13} with Jarlskog invariant and neutrinoless double-beta-decay observable. From the common origin of CP and mu-tau breaking in the neutrino seesaw, we establish a direct link between the low energy CP violations and the cosmological CP violation for baryon asymmetry. With these we further predict a lower bound on theta_{13}, supporting the on-going probes of theta_{13} at Daya Bay, Double Chooz and RENO experiments. Finally, we analyze the general model-independent Z_2 x Z_2 symmetry structure of the light neutrino sector, and map it into the seesaw sector, where one of the Z_2's corresponds to the mu-tau symmetry and another the hidden symmetry Z_2^s (revealed in our previous work) which dictates the solar mixing angle θ_{12}. We derive the physical consequences of this Z_2^s and its possible partial violation in the presence of mu-tau breaking (without or with neutrino seesaw), regarding the theta_{12} determination and the correlation between mu-tau breaking observables.

We study the physics potential of the 8TeV LHC (LHC-8) to discover, during its 2012 run, a large class of extended gauge models or extra dimensional models whose low energy behavior is well represented by an SU(2)^2 x U(1) gauge structure. We analyze this class of models and find that with a combined integrated luminosity of 40-60/fb at the LHC-8, the first new Kaluza-Klein mode of the W gauge boson can be discovered up to a mass of about 370-400 GeV, when produced in association with a Z boson.

GeV Scale Asymmetric Dark Matter from Mirror Universe: Direct Detection and LHC Signatures

Mirror universe is a fundamental way to restore parity symmetry in weak interactions. It naturally provides the lightest mirror nucleon as a unique GeV-scale asymmetric dark matter particle candidate. We conjecture that the mirror parity is respected by the fundamental interaction Lagrangian, and its possible soft breaking arises only from non-interaction terms in the gauge-singlet sector. We realize the spontaneous mirror parity violation by minimizing the vacuum Higgs potential, and derive the corresponding Higgs spectrum. We demonstrate that the common origin of CP violation in the visible and mirror neutrino seesaws can generate the right amount of matter and mirror dark matter via leptogenesis. We analyze the direct detections of GeV-scale mirror dark matter by TEXONO and CDEX experiments. We further study the predicted distinctive Higgs signatures at the LHC.

LHC Higgs Signatures from Extended Electroweak Gauge Symmetry

We study LHC Higgs signatures from the extended electroweak gauge symmetry SU(2) x SU(2) x U(1). Under this gauge structure, we present an effective UV completion of the 3-site moose model with ideal fermion delocalization, which contains two neutral Higgs states (h, H) and three new gauge bosons (W', Z'). We study the unitarity, and reveal that the exact E^2 cancellation in the longitudinal WW scattering amplitudes is achieved by the joint role of exchanging both spin-1 new gauge bosons and spin-0 Higgs bosons. We identify the lighter Higgs state h with mass 125GeV, and derive the unitarity bound on the mass of heavier Higgs boson H. The parameter space of this model is highly predictive. We study the production and decay signals of this 125GeV Higgs boson h at the LHC. We demonstrate that the h Higgs boson can naturally have enhanced signals in the diphoton channel $gg \to h \toγγ$, while the events rates in the reactions $gg \to h \to WW^*$ and $gg \to h \to ZZ^*$ are generally suppressed relative to the SM expectation. Searching the h Higgs boson via associated productions and vector boson fusions are also discussed for our model. We further analyze the LHC signals of the heavier Higgs boson H as a distinctive new physics discriminator from the SM. For wide mass-ranges of H, we derive constraints from the existing LHC searches, and study the discovery potential of H at the LHC(8TeV) and LHC(14TeV).

LHC Signatures of Two-Higgs-Doublets with Fourth Family

On-going Higgs searches in the light mass window are of vital importance for testing the Higgs mechanism and probing new physics beyond the standard model (SM). The latest ATLAS and CMS searches for the SM Higgs boson at the LHC (7TeV) found some intriguing excesses of events in the γγ/VV^* channels (V=Z,W) around the mass-range of 124-126 GeV. We explore a possible explanation of the γγand VV^* signals from the light CP-odd Higgs A^0 or CP-even Higgs h^0 from the general two-Higgs-doublet model with fourth-family fermions. We demonstrate that by including invisible decays of the Higgs boson A^0 or h^0 to fourth-family neutrinos, the predicted γγand VV^* signals can explain the observed new signatures at the LHC, and will be further probed by the forthcoming LHC runs in 2012.

Octahedral Symmetry with Geometrical Breaking: New Prediction for Neutrino Mixing Angle theta_{13} and CP Violation

We propose octahedral group O_h as the family symmetry of neutrino-lepton sector. We find that O_h contains subgroups Z_2(mu-tau) x Z_2(solar) and Z_4^l for realizing the bimaximal (BM) mixings, theta_{23} = theta_{12} = 45^o and theta_{13}=0^o, where Z_2(mu-tau) x Z_2(solar) and Z_4^l serve as the residual symmetries of neutrinos and charged leptons, respectively. We present geometric interpretations of BM mixing in the octahedron, and construct natural geometrical breaking of Z_4^l, leading to nontrivial deviations from the BM mixings. Our theory makes truly simple predictions of a relatively large reactor angle, theta_{13} = 45^o - theta_{12} = 7.5^o - 13.7^o (3 sigma), the nearly maximal atmospheric angle and the approximate maximal Dirac CP violation. These agree well with the current neutrino data, and will be further probed by the on-going and upcoming oscillation experiments.

Spontaneous Mirror Parity Violation, Common Origin of Matter and Dark Matter, and the LHC Signatures

Existence of a mirror world in the universe is a fundamental way to restore the observed parity violation in weak interactions and provides the lightest mirror nucleon as a unique GeV-scale dark matter particle candidate. The visible and mirror worlds share the same spacetime of the universe and are connected by a unique space-inversion symmetry -- the mirror parity (P). We conjecture that the mirror parity is respected by the fundamental interaction Lagrangian, and study its spontaneous breaking from minimizing the Higgs vacuum potential. The domain wall problem is resolved by a unique soft breaking linear-term from the P-odd weak-singlet Higgs field. We also derive constraint from the Big-Bang nucleosynthesis. We then analyze the neutrino seesaw for both visible and mirror worlds, and demonstrate that the desired amounts of visible matter and mirror dark matter in the universe arise from a common origin of CP violation in the neutrino sector via leptogenesis. We derive the Higgs mass-spectrum and Higgs couplings with gauge bosons and fermions. We show their consistency with the direct Higgs searches and the indirect precision constraints. We further study the distinctive signatures of the predicted non-standard Higgs bosons at the LHC. Finally, we analyze the direct detections of GeV-scale mirror dark matter by TEXONO and CDEX experiments.

Common Origin of Soft mu-tau and CP Breaking in Neutrino Seesaw and the Origin of Matter

Neutrino oscillation data strongly support mu-tau symmetry as a good approximate flavor symmetry of the neutrino sector, which has to appear in any viable theory for neutrino mass-generation. The mu-tau breaking is not only small, but also the source of Dirac CP-violation. We conjecture that both discrete mu-tau and CP symmetries are fundamental symmetries of the seesaw Lagrangian (respected by interaction terms), and they are only softly broken, arising from a common origin via a unique dimension-3 Majorana mass-term of the heavy right-handed neutrinos. From this conceptually attractive and simple construction, we can predict the soft mu-tau breaking at low energies, leading to quantitative correlations between the apparently two small deviations θ_{23} - 45^o and θ_{13} - 0^o. This nontrivially connects the on-going measurements of mixing angle θ_{23} with the upcoming experimental probes of θ_{13}. We find that any deviation of θ_{23} - 45^o must put a lower limit on θ_{13}. Furthermore, we deduce the low energy Dirac and Majorana CP violations from a common soft-breaking phase associated with mu-tau breaking in the neutrino seesaw. Finally, from the soft CP breaking in neutrino seesaw we derive the cosmological CP violation for the baryon asymmetry via leptogenesis. We fully reconstruct the leptogenesis CP-asymmetry from the low energy Dirac CP phase and establish a direct link between the cosmological CP-violation and the low energy Jarlskog invariant. We predict new lower and upper bounds on the θ_{13} mixing angle, 1^o < θ_{13} < 6^o. In addition, we reveal a new hidden symmetry that dictates the solar mixing angle θ_12 by its group-parameter, and includes the conventional tri-bimaximal mixing as a special case, allowing deviations from it.

Gauge-Invariant Quantum Gravity Corrections to Gauge Couplings via Vilkovisky-DeWitt Method and Gravity Assisted Gauge Unification

Gravity is the weakest force in nature, and the gravitational interactions with all standard model (SM) particles can be well described by perturbative expansions of the Einstein-Hilbert action as an effective theory, all the way up to energies below the fundamental Planck scale. We use Vilkovisky-DeWitt method to derive the first gauge-invariant nonzero gravitational power-law corrections to the running of gauge couplings, which make both Abel and non-Abel gauge interactions asymptotically free. We further demonstrate that the graviton-induced universal power-law runnings always assist the three SM gauge forces to reach unification around the Planck scale, irrespective of the detail of logarithmic corrections. We also compute the power-law corrections to the SM Higgs sector and derive modified triviality bound on the Higgs boson mass.

Identifying Better Effective Higgsless Theories via W_L W_L Scattering

The three site Higgsless model has been offered as a benchmark for studying the collider phenomenology of Higgsless models. In this talk, we present how well the three site Higgsless model performs as a general representative of Higgsless models in describing W_L W_L scattering, and which modifications can make it more representative. We employ general sum rules relating the masses and couplings of the Kaluza-Klein (KK) modes of the gauge fields in continuum and deconstructed Higgsless models as a way to compare the different theories. After comparing the three site Higgsless model to flat and warped continuum Higgsless models, we analyze an extensions of the three site Higgsless model, namely, the Hidden Local Symmetry (HLS) Higgsless model. We demonstrate that W_LW_L scattering in the HLS Higgsless model can very closely approximate scattering in the continuum models, provided that the parameter `a' is chosen to mimic rho-meson dominance of pi-pi scattering in QCD.

W_L W_L Scattering in Higgsless Models: Identifying Better Effective Theories

The three-site model has been offered as a benchmark for studying the collider phenomenology of Higgsless models. In this paper we analyze how well the three-site model performs as a general exemplar of Higgsless models in describing W_L W_L scattering, and which modifications can make it more representative. We employ general sum rules relating the masses and couplings of the Kaluza-Klein (KK) modes of the gauge fields in continuum and deconstructed Higgsless models as a way to compare the different theories. We show that the size of the four-point vertex for the (unphysical) Nambu-Goldstone modes and the degree to which the sum rules are saturated by contributions from the lowest-lying KK resonances both provide good measures of the extent to which a highly-deconstructed theory can accurately describe the low-energy physics of a continuum 5d Higgsless model. After comparing the three-site model to flat and warped continuum models, we analyze extensions of the three-site model to a longer open linear moose with an additional U(1) group and to a ring ("BESS' or "hidden local symmetry") model with three sites and three links. Both cases may be readily analyzed in the framework of the general sum rules. We demonstrate that W_L W_L scattering in the ring model can very closely approximate scattering in the continuum models, provided that the hidden local symmetry parameter `a' is chosen to mimic rho-meson dominance of pion-pion scattering in QCD. The hadron and lepton collider phenomenology of both extended models is briefly discussed, with a focus on the complementary information to be gained from precision measurements of the Z' line shape and ZWW coupling at a high-energy lepton collider.

Unitarity of Little Higgs Models Signals New Physics of UV Completion

The ``Little Higgs'' opens up a new avenue for natural electroweak symmetry breaking in which the standard model Higgs particle is realized as a pseudo-Goldstone boson and thus is generically light. The symmetry breaking structure of the Little Higgs models predicts a large multiplet of (pseudo-)Goldstone bosons and their low energy interactions below the ultraviolet (UV) completion scale $Λ\sim 4πf \sim O(10)$ TeV, where $f$ is the Goldstone decay constant. We study unitarity of the Little Higgs models by systematically analyzing the high energy scatterings of these (pseudo-)Goldstone bosons. We reveal that the collective effect of the Goldstone scatterings via coupled channel analysis tends to push the unitarity violation scale $Λ_U$ significantly below the conventional UV scale $Λ\sim 4πf$ as estimated by naive dimensional analysis (NDA). Specifically, $Λ_U \sim (3-4)f$, lying in the multi-TeV range for $f\sim 1$ TeV. We interpret this as an encouraging sign that the upcoming LHC may explore aspects of Little Higgs UV completions, and we discuss some potential signatures. The meanings of the two estimated UV scales $Λ_U$ (from unitarity violation) and $Λ$ (from NDA) together with their implications for an effective field theory analysis of the Little Higgs models are also discussed.

Tau-Mu Flavor Violation and the Scale of New Physics

Motivated by the strong experimental evidence of large nu_mu - nu_tau neutrino oscillations, we study existing constraints for related mu - tau flavor violation. Using a general bottom-up approach, we construct dimension-6 effective fermionic operators whose coefficients encode the scale of new physics associated with mu - tau flavor violation, which is a piece in the puzzle of the origin of neutrino oscillations. We survey existing experimental bounds on this scale, which arise mostly from tau and B decays. In many cases the new physics scale is constrained to be above a few TeV. We also discuss the operators which are either weakly constrained or, at present, subject to no experimental bounds.

Unitarity of the Higher Dimensional Standard Model

We study the unitarity of the standard model (SM) in higher dimensions. We show that the essential features of SM unitarity remain after compactification, and place bounds on the highest Kaluza-Klein (KK) level N_KK and the Higgs mass m_H in the effective four-dimensional (4d) low-energy theory. We demonstrate these general observations by explicitly analyzing the effective 4d KK theory of a compactified 5d SM on S^1/Z_2. The nontrivial energy cancellations in the scattering of longitudinal KK gluons or KK weak bosons, a consequence of the geometric Higgs mechanism, are verified. In the case of the electroweak gauge bosons, the longitudinal KK states also include a small mixture from the KK Higgs excitations. With the analyses before and after compactification, we derive the strongest bounds on N_KK from gauge KK scattering. Applying these bounds to higher-dimensional SUSY GUTs implies that only a small number of KK states can be used to accelerate gauge coupling unification. As a consequence, we show that the GUT scale in the 5d minimal SUSY GUT cannot be lower than about 10^{14} GeV.

Anomalous Gauge Interactions of the Higgs Boson: Precision Constraints and Weak Boson Scatterings

Interaction of Higgs scalar (H) with weak gauge bosons (V=W,Z) is the {\it key} to understand electroweak symmetry breaking (EWSB) mechanism. New physics effects in the HVV interactions, as predicted by models of compositeness, supersymmetry and extra dimensions, can be formulated as anomalous couplings via a generic effective Lagrangian. We first show that the existing electroweak precision data already impose nontrivial indirect constraints on the anomalous HVV couplings. Then, we systematically study VV --> VV scatterings in the TeV region, via Gold-plated pure leptonic decay modes of the weak bosons. We demonstrate that, even for a light Higgs boson in the mass range 115GeV < m_H < 300GeV, this process can directly probe the anomalous HVV interactions at the LHC with an integrated luminosity of 300fb^{-1}, which further supports the ``No-Lose'' theorem for the LHC to uncover the EWSB mechanism. Comparisons with the constraints from measuring the cross section of VH associate production and the Higgs boson decay width are also given.

QCD Corrections to Scalar Production via Heavy Quark Fusion at Hadron Colliders

We recently proposed that, due to the top-quark-mass enhanced Yukawa coupling, the s-channel production of a charged scalar or pseudo-scalar from heavy quark fusion can be an important new mechanism for discovering non-standard spin-0 particles. In this work, we present the complete O(alpha_s) QCD corrections to this s-channel production process at hadron colliders, including the results of QCD resummation over multiple soft-gluon emission. The systematic QCD-improved production and decay rates at the FermiLab Tevatron and the CERN LHC are given for the charged top-pions in the topcolor models and for the charged Higgs bosons in the generic two Higgs doublet model. The direct extension to the production of the neutral (pseudo-)scalars via bb\bar fusion is studied in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) with large tan(beta), and in the topcolor model with large bottom Yukawa coupling.

Equivalence Theorem and Probing the Electroweak Symmetry Breaking Sector

We examine the Lorentz non-invariance ambiguity in longitudinal weak-boson scatterings and the precise conditions for the validity of the Equivalence Theorem (ET). {\it Safe} Lorentz frames for applying the ET are defined, and the intrinsic connection between the longitudinal weak-boson scatterings and probing the symmetry breaking sector is analyzed. A universal precise formulation of the ET is presented for both the Standard Model and the Chiral Lagrangian formulated Electro-Weak Theories. It is shown that in electroweak theories with strongly interacting symmetry breaking sector, the longitudinal weak-boson scattering amplitude {\it under proper conditions} can be replaced by the corresponding Goldstone-boson scattering amplitude in which all the internal weak-boson lines and fermion loops are ignored.

Inconsistency of QED in the Presence of Dirac Monopoles II

We enlarge the local gauge invariance of QED from $~U(1)_A~$ to $~U(1)_A \times U(1)_Θ~$ by introducing another unphysical pure gauge field $~Θ~$ with an independent, unphysical gauge coupling $~\tilde{e}~$. This pure gauge field can be gauge-transformed away and the resulting theory is {\it identical to} standard QED. We then re-examine the Dirac quantization condition (DQC) for point monopoles and find that two essentially different DQCs can be derived. One DQC involves a gauge coupling $~e~$ in the $~U(1)_A~$ group and the other only the unphysical gauge coupling $~\tilde{e}~$ in the $~U(1)_Θ~$ group. The unique physically consistent solution of these two DQCs is a vanishing magnetic charge, which implies that no Dirac monopole exists in nature.
