Heisenberg models and Schur--Weyl duality

We present a detailed analysis of certain quantum spin systems with inhomogeneous (non-random) mean-field interactions. Examples include, but are not limited to, the interchange- and spin singlet projection interactions on complete bipartite graphs. Using two instances of the representation theoretic framework of Schur--Weyl duality, we can explicitly compute the free energy and other thermodynamic limits in the models we consider. This allows us to describe the phase-transition, the ground-state phase diagram, and the expected structure of extremal states.

Nearest-neighbour correlation functions for the supersymmetric XYZ spin chain and Painlevé VI

We study nearest-neighbour correlation functions for the ground state of the supersymmetric XYZ spin chain with odd length and periodic boundary conditions. Under a technical assumption related to the $Q$-operator of the corresponding eight-vertex model, we show that they can be expressed exactly in terms of the Painlevé VI tau functions $s_n$ and $\bar s_n$ introduced by Bazhanov and Mangazeev. Furthermore, we give an interpretation of the correlation functions in terms of the Painlevé VI Hamiltonian.

From Kajihara's transformation formula to deformed Macdonald-Ruijsenaars and Noumi-Sano operators

Kajihara obtained in 2004 a remarkable transformation formula connecting multiple basic hypergeometric series associated with $A$-type root systems of different ranks. By multiple principle specialisations of his formula, we deduce kernel identities for deformed Macdonald-Ruijsenaars (MR) and Noumi-Sano (NS) operators. The deformed MR operators were introduced by Sergeev and Veselov in the first order case and by Feigin and Silantyev in the higher order cases. As applications of our kernel identities, we prove that all of these operators pairwise commute and are simultaneously diagonalised by the super-Macdonald polynomials. We also provide an explicit description of the algebra generated by the deformed MR and/or NS operators by a Harish-Chandra type isomorphism and show that the deformed MR (NS) operators can be viewed as restrictions of inverse limits of ordinary MR (NS) operators.

Higher order deformed elliptic Ruijsenaars operators

We present four infinite families of mutually commuting difference operators which include the deformed elliptic Ruijsenaars operators. The trigonometric limit of this kind of operators was previously introduced by Feigin and Silantyev. They provide a quantum mechanical description of two kinds of relativistic quantum mechanical particles which can be identified with particles and anti-particles in an underlying quantum field theory. We give direct proofs of the commutativity of our operators and of some other fundamental properties such as kernel function identities. In particular, we give a rigorous proof of the quantum integrability of the deformed Ruijsenaars model.

Elliptic pfaffians and solvable lattice models

We introduce and study twelve multivariable theta functions defined by pfaffians with elliptic function entries. We show that, when the crossing parameter is a cubic root of unity, the domain wall partition function for the eight-vertex-solid-on-solid model can be written as a sum of two of these pfaffians. As a limit case, we express the domain wall partition function for the three-colour model as a sum of two Hankel determinants. We also show that certain solutions of the TQ-equation for the supersymmetric eight-vertex model can be expressed in terms of elliptic pfaffians.

Integral pentagon relations for 3d superconformal indices

The superconformal index of a three-dimensional supersymmetric field theory can be expressed in terms of basic hypergeometric integrals. By comparing the indices of dual theories, one can find new integral identities for basic hypergeometric integrals. Some of these integral identities have the form of the pentagon identity which can be interpreted as the 2-3 Pachner move for triangulated 3-manifolds.

Rahman's biorthogonal functions and superconformal indices

We study biorthogonal functions related to basic hypergeometric integrals with coupled continuous and discrete components. Such integrals appear as superconformal indices for three-dimensional quantum field theories and also in the context of solvable lattice models. We obtain explicit biorthogonal systems given by products of two of Rahman's biorthogonal rational ${}_{10}W_9$-functions or their degenerate cases. We also give new bilateral extensions of the Jackson and $q$-Saalschütz summation formulas and new continuous and discrete biorthogonality measures for Rahman's functions.

Selberg integrals, Askey-Wilson polynomials and lozenge tilings of a hexagon with a triangular hole

We obtain an explicit formula for a certain weighted enumeration of lozenge tilings of a hexagon with an arbitrary triangular hole. The complexity of our expression depends on the distance from the hole to the center of the hexagon. This proves and generalizes conjectures of Ciucu et al., who considered the case of plain enumeration when the triangle is located at or very near the center. Our proof uses Askey-Wilson polynomials as a tool to relate discrete and continuous Selberg-type integrals.

Special polynomials related to the supersymmetric eight-vertex model: A summary

We introduce and study symmetric polynomials, which as very special cases include polynomials related to the supersymmetric eight-vertex model, and other elliptic lattice models with $Δ=\pm 1/2$. There is also a close relation to affine Lie algebra characters. After a natural change of variables, our polynomials satisfy a non-stationary Schrödinger equation with elliptic potential, which is related to the Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov-Bernard equation and to the canonical quantization of Painlevé VI. Moreover, specializations of our polynomials can be identified with tau functions of Painlevé VI, obtained from one of Picard's algebraic solutions by acting with a four-dimensional lattice of Bäcklund transformations. In the present work, our results on these topics are summarized with a minimum of technical details.

Special polynomials related to the supersymmetric eight-vertex model. I. Behaviour at cusps

We study certain symmetric polynomials, which as very special cases include polynomials related to the supersymmetric eight-vertex model, and other elliptic lattice models with $Δ=\pm 1/2$. In this paper, which is the first part of a series, we study the behaviour of the polynomials at special parameter values, which can be identified with cusps of the modular group $Γ_0(12)$. In subsequent papers, we will show that the polynomials satisfy a non-stationary Schrödinger equation related to the Knizhnik--Zamolodchikov--Bernard equation and that they give a four-dimensional lattice of tau functions of Painlevé VI.

Special polynomials related to the supersymmetric eight-vertex model. II. Schrödinger equation

We show that symmetric polynomials previously introduced by the author satisfy a certain differential equation. After a change of variables, it can be written as a non-stationary Schrödinger equation with elliptic potential, which is closely related to the Knizhnik--Zamolodchikov--Bernard equation and to the canonical quantization of the Painlevé VI equation. In a subsequent paper, this will be used to construct a four-dimensional lattice of tau functions for Painlevé VI.

Special polynomials related to the supersymmetric eight-vertex model. III. Painlevé VI equation

We prove that certain polynomials previously introduced by the author can be identified with tau functions of Painlevé VI, obtained from one of Picard's algebraic solutions by acting with a four-dimensional lattice of Bäcklund transformations. For particular lines in the lattice, this proves conjectures of Bazhanov and Mangazeev. As applications, we describe the behaviour of the corresponding solutions near the singular points of Painlevé VI, and obtain several new properties of our polynomials.

A new pentagon identity for the tetrahedron index

Recently Kashaev, Luo and Vartanov, using the reduction from a four-dimensional superconformal index to a three-dimensional partition function, found a pentagon identity for a special combination of hyperbolic Gamma functions. Following their idea we have obtained a new pentagon identity for a certain combination of so-called tetrahedron indices arising from the equality of superconformal indices of dual three-dimensional N=2 supersymmetric theories and give a mathematical proof of it.

Evaluation modules for the $q$-tetrahedron algebra

Let $\mathbb F$ denote an algebraically closed field, and fix a nonzero $q \in \mathbb F$ that is not a root of unity. We consider the $q$-tetrahedron algebra $\boxtimes_q$ over $\mathbb F$. It is known that each finite-dimensional irreducible $\boxtimes_q$-module of type 1 is a tensor product of evaluation modules. This paper contains a comprehensive description of the evaluation modules for $\boxtimes_q$. This description includes the following topics. Given an evaluation module $V$ for $\boxtimes_q$, we display 24 bases for $V$ that we find attractive. For each basis we give the matrices that represent the $\boxtimes_q$-generators. We give the transition matrices between certain pairs of bases among the 24. It is known that the cyclic group $\Z_4$ acts on $\boxtimes_q$ as a group of automorphisms. We describe what happens when $V$ is twisted via an element of $\Z_4$. We discuss how evaluation modules for $\boxtimes_q$ are related to Leonard pairs of $q$-Racah type.

Felder's elliptic quantum group and elliptic hypergeometric series on the root system A_n

We introduce a generalization of elliptic 6j-symbols, which can be interpreted as matrix elements for intertwiners between corepresentations of Felder's elliptic quantum group. For special parameter values, they can be expressed in terms of multivariable elliptic hypergeometric series related to the root system A_n. As a consequence, we obtain new biorthogonality relations for such series.

The three-colour model with domain wall boundary conditions

We study the partition function for the three-colour model with domain wall boundary conditions. We express it in terms of certain special polynomials, which can be constructed recursively. Our method generalizes Kuperberg's proof of the alternating sign matrix theorem, replacing the six-vertex model used by Kuperberg with the eight-vertex-solid-on-solid model. As applications, we obtain some combinatorial results on three-colourings. We also conjecture an explicit formula for the free energy of the model.

An Izergin-Korepin-type identity for the 8VSOS model, with applications to alternating sign matrices

We obtain a new expression for the partition function of the 8VSOS model with domain wall boundary conditions, which we consider to be the natural extension of the Izergin-Korepin formula for the six-vertex model. As applications, we find dynamical (in the sense of the dynamical Yang-Baxter equation) generalizations of the enumeration and 2-enumeration of alternating sign matrices. The dynamical enumeration has a nice interpretation in terms of three-colourings of the square lattice.
