YUI and HANA: Control and Visualization Programs for HRC in J-PARC

We developed control and visualization programs, YUI and HANA, for High- Resolution Chopper spectrometer (HRC) installed at BL12 in MLF, J-PARC. YUI is a comprehensive program to control DAQ-middleware, the accessories, and sample environment devices. HANA is a program for the data transformation and visualization of inelastic neutron scattering spectra. In this paper, we describe the basic system structures and unique functions of these programs from the viewpoint of users.

Superconductivity and non-Fermi-liquid behavior in the heavy-fermion compound CeCo$_{1-x}$Ni$_x$In$_5$

The effect of off-plane impurity on superconductivity and non-Fermi-liquid (NFL) behavior in the layered heavy-fermion compound CeCo$_{1-x}$Ni$_x$In$_5$ is investigated by specific heat, magnetization, and electrical resistivity measurements. These measurements reveal that the superconducting (SC) transition temperature T$_c$ monotonically decreases from 2.3 K (x=0) to 0.8 K (x=0.20) with increasing x, and then the SC order disappears above x=0.25. At the same time, the Ni substitution yields the NFL behavior at zero field for x=0.25, characterized by the -ln T divergence in specific heat divided by temperature, C$_p$/T, and magnetic susceptibility, M/B. The NFL behavior in magnetic fields for x=0.25 is quite similar to that seen at around the SC upper critical field in pure CeCoIn$_5$, suggesting that both compounds are governed by the same antiferromagnetic quantum criticality. The resemblance of the doping effect on the SC order among Ni- , Sn-, and Pt-substituted CeCoIn5 supports the argument that the doped carriers are primarily responsible for the breakdown of the SC order. The present investigation further reveals the quantitative differences in the trends of the suppression of superconductivity between Ce(Co,Ni)In$_5$ and the other alloys, such as the rates of decrease in T$_c$, dT$_c$/dx, and specific heat jump at T$_c$, d($Δ$C$_p$/T$_c$)/dx. We suggest that the occupied positions of the doped ions play an important role in the origin of these differences.

Temperature and composition phase diagram in the iron-based ladder compounds Ba1-xCsxFe2Se3

We investigated the iron-based ladder compounds (Ba,Cs)Fe$_2$Se$_3$. Their parent compounds, BaFe$_2$Se$_3$ and CsFe$_2$Se$_3$, have different space groups, formal valences of Fe and magnetic structures. Electrical resistivity, specific heat, magnetic susceptibility, X-ray diffraction and powder neutron diffraction measurements were conducted to obtain temperature and composition phase diagram of this system. Block magnetism observed in BaFe$_2$Se$_3$ is drastically suppressed with Cs doping. In contrast, stripe magnetism observed in CsFe$_2$Se$_3$ is not so fragile against Ba doping. New type of magnetic structure appears in intermediate compositions, which is similar to stripe magnetism of CsFe$_2$Se$_3$, but inter-ladder spin configuration is different. Intermediate compounds show insulating behavior, nevertheless finite $T$-linear contribution in specific heat was obtained at low temperatures.

Magnetic structure of the conductive triangular-lattice antiferromagnet PdCrO2

We performed neutron single crystal and synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction experiments in order to investigate the magnetic and crystal structures of the conductive layered triangular-lattice antiferromagnet PdCrO2 with a putative spin chirality, which contributes to an unconventional anomalous Hall effect. We revealed that the ground-state magnetic structure is a commensurate and nearly-coplanar 120-degrees spin structure. The 120-degrees plane in different Cr layers seem to tilt with one another, leading to a small noncoplanarity. Such a small but finite non-coplanar stacking of the 120-degrees planes gives rise to a finite scalar spin chirality, which may be responsible for the unconventional nature of the Hall effect of PdCrO2.
