On Local Energy decay for solution of the Benjamin-Ono equation

We consider the long time dynamics of large solutions to the Benjamin-Ono equation. Using virial techniques, we describe regions of space where every solution in a suitable Sobolev space must decay to zero along sequences of times. Moreover, in the case of exterior regions, we prove complete decay for any sequence of times. The remaining regions not treated here are essentially the strong dispersion and soliton regions.

On the unique continuation of solutions to non-local non-linear dispersive equations

We prove unique continuation properties of solutions to a large class of nonlinear, non-local dispersive equations. The goal is to show that if $u_1,\,u_2$ are two suitable solutions of the equation defined in $\mathbb R^n\times[0,T]$ such that for some non-empty open set $Ω\subset \mathbb R^n\times[0,T]$, $u_1(x,t)=u_2(x,t)$ for $(x,t) \in Ω$, then $u_1(x,t)=u_2(x,t)$ for any $(x,t)\in\mathbb R^n\times[0,T]$. The proof is based on static arguments. More precisely, the main ingredient in the proofs will be the unique continuation properties for fractional powers of the Laplacian established by Ghosh, Salo and Ulhmann in \cite{GhSaUh}, and some extensions obtained here.

On the regularity of solutions to the $k$-generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation

This work is concerned with special regularity properties of solutions to the $k$-generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation. In \cite{IsazaLinaresPonce} it was established that if the initial datun $u_0\in H^l((b,\infty))$ for some $l\in\mathbb Z^+$ and $b\in \mathbb R$, then the corresponding solution $u(\cdot,t)$ belongs to $H^l((β,\infty))$ for any $β\in \mathbb R$ and any $t\in (0,T)$. Our goal here is to extend this result to the case where $\,l\in \mathbb R^+$.

Properties of solutions to the Camassa-Holm equation on the line in a class containing the peakons

We study special properties of solutions to the IVP associated to the Camassa-Holm equation on the line related to the regularity and the decay of solutions. The first aim is to show how the regularity on the initial data is transferred to the corresponding solution in a class containing the "peakon solutions". In particular, we shall show that the local regularity is similar to that exhibited by the solution of the inviscid Burger's equation with the same initial datum. The second goal is to prove that the decay results obtained in a paper of Himonas, Misiołek, Ponce, and Zhou extend to the class of solutions considered here.

On the propagation of regularity of solutions of the Kadomtsev-Petviashvilli (KPII) equation

We shall deduce some special regularity properties of solutions to the IVP associated to the KPII equation. Mainly, for datum $u_0\in X_s(\mathbb R^2)$, $s>2$, (see (1.2) below) whose restriction belongs to $H^m((x_0,\infty)\times\mathbb R)$ for some $m\in\mathbb Z^+,\,m\geq 3,$ and $x_0\in \mathbb R$, we shall prove that the restriction of the corresponding solution $u(\cdot,t)$ belongs to $H^m((β,\infty)\times\mathbb R)$ for any $β\in \mathbb R$ and any $t>0$.

Decay properties for solutions of fifth order nonlinear dispersive equations

We consider the initial value problem associated to a large class of fifth order nonlinear dispersive equations. This class includes several models arising in the study of different physical phenomena. Our aim is to establish special (space) decay properties of solutions to these systems. These properties complement previous unique continuation results and in some case, show that they are optimal. These decay estimates reflect the "parabolic character" of these dispersive models in exponential weighted spaces. This principle was first obtained by T. Kato in solutions of the KdV equation

Dispersive blow up for nonlinear Schroedinger equations revisited

The possibility of finite-time, dispersive blow up for nonlinear equations of Schroedinger type is revisited. This mathematical phenomena is one of the possible explanations for oceanic and optical rogue waves. In dimension one, the possibility of dispersive blow up for nonlinear Schroedinger equations already appears in [9]. In the present work, the existing results are extended in several ways. In one direction, the theory is broadened to include the Davey-Stewartson and Gross-Pitaevskii equations. In another, dispersive blow up is shown to obtain for nonlinear Schroedinger equations in spatial dimensions larger than one and for more general power-law nonlinearities. As a by-product of our analysis, a sharp global smoothing estimate for the integral term appearing in Duhamel's formula is obtained.

On the propagation of regularities in solutions of the Benjamin-Ono equation

We shall deduce some special regularity properties of solutions to the IVP associated to the Benjamin-Ono equation. Mainly, for datum $u_0\in H^{3/2}(\mathbb R)$ whose restriction belongs to $H^m((b,\infty))$ for some $m\in\mathbb Z^+,\,m\geq 2,$ and $b\in \mathbb R$ we shall prove that the restriction of the corresponding solution $u(\cdot,t)$ belongs to $H^m((β,\infty))$ for any $β\in \mathbb R$ and any $t>0$. Therefore, this type of regularity of the datum travels with infinite speed to its left as time evolves.

Propagation of regularity and decay of solutions to the $k$-generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation

We study special regularity and decay properties of solutions to the IVP associated to the $k$-generalized KdV equations. In particular, for datum $u_0\in H^{3/4^+}(\mathbb R)$ whose restriction belongs to $H^l((b,\infty))$ for some $l\in\mathbb Z^+$ and $b\in \mathbb R$ we prove that the restriction of the corresponding solution $u(\cdot,t)$ belongs to $H^l((β,\infty))$ for any $β\in \mathbb R$ and any $t\in (0,T)$. Thus, this type of regularity propagates with infinite speed to its left as time evolves.

Well-posedness results for the dispersion generalized Benjamin-Ono equation via the contraction principle

We study the initial value problem associated to the dispersion generalized Benjamin-Ono equation. Our aim is to establish well-posedness results in weighted Sobolev spaces via contraction principle under minimal requirements in the weighted order of the space. One of our new main ideas is the deduction of a pointwise estimate concerning the group describing the solution of the linear problem and the fractional weights.

On decay properties of solutions of the $k$-generalized KdV equations

We prove special decay properties of solutions to the initial value problem associated to the $k$-generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation. These are related with persistence properties of the solution flow in weighted Sobolev spaces and with sharp unique continuation properties of solutions to this equation. As application of our method we also obtain results concerning the decay behavior of perturbations of the traveling wave solutions as well as results for solutions corresponding to special data.

The IVP for the dispersion generalized Benjamin-Ono equation in weighted Sobolev spaces

We study the initial value problem associated to the dispersion generalized Benjamin-Ono equation. Our aim is to establish well posedness results in weighted Sobolev spaces and to deduce from them some sharp unique continuation properties of solutions to this equation. In particular, we shall establish optimal decay rate for the solutions of this model.

The Non-Linear Schrödinger Equation with a periodic {\bf{$δ$}}--interaction

We study the existence and stability of the standing waves for the periodic cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation with a point defect determined by a periodic Dirac distribution at the origin. This equation admits a smooth curve of positive periodic solutions in the form of standing waves with a profile given by the Jacobi elliptic function of dnoidal type. Via a perturbation method and continuation argument, we obtain that in the case of an attractive defect the standing wave solutions are stable in $H^1_{per}$ with respect to perturbations which have the same period as the wave itself. In the case of a repulsive defect, the standing wave solutions are stable in the subspace of even functions of $H^1_{per}$ and unstable in $H^1_{per}$ with respect to perturbations which have the same period as the wave itself.

The IVP for the Benjamin-Ono equation in weighted Sobolev spaces

We study the initial value problem associated to the Benjamin-Ono equation. The aim is to establish persistence properties of the solution flow in the weighted Sobolev spaces $Z_{s,r}=H^s(\R)\cap L^2(|x|^{2r}dx)$, $s\in\R, \,s\geq 1$ and $s\geq r$. We also prove some unique continuation properties of the solution flow in these spaces. In particular, these continuation principles demostrate that our persistence properties are sharp.
