On Local Energy decay for solution of the Benjamin-Ono equation

We consider the long time dynamics of large solutions to the Benjamin-Ono equation. Using virial techniques, we describe regions of space where every solution in a suitable Sobolev space must decay to zero along sequences of times. Moreover, in the case of exterior regions, we prove complete decay for any sequence of times. The remaining regions not treated here are essentially the strong dispersion and soliton regions.

Maximal function estimates and local well-posedness for the generalized Zakharov--Kuznetsov equation

We prove a high-dimensional version of the Strichartz estimates for the unitary group associated to the free Zakharov--Kuznetsov equation. As a by--product, we deduce maximal estimates which allow us to prove local well-posedness for the generalized Zakharov--Kuznetsov equation in the whole subcritical case whenever $d \ge 4, k \ge 4,$ complementing the recent results of Kinoshita and Herr--Kinoshita. Finally, we use some of those maximal estimates in order to prove pointwise convergence results for the flow of the generalized Zakharov--Kuznetsov equation in any dimension, in the same spirit of a recent manuscript by Compaan, Lucà and Staffilani.

The Cauchy problem for the $L^2-$critical generalized Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation in dimension 3

We prove local well-posedness for the $L^2$ critical generalized Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation in $H^s, \, s \in (3/4,1).$ We also prove that the equation is "almost well-posedness" for initial data $u_0 \in H^s, \, s \in [1,2),$ in the sense that the solution belongs to a certain intersection $C([0,T] : H^s(\mathbb{R}^3)) \cap X^s_T$ and is unique within that class, where we can ensure continuity of the data-to-solution map in an only slightly larger space. We also prove that solutions satisfy the expected conservation of $L^2-$mass for the whole $s \in (3/4,2)$ range, and energy for $s \in (1,2).$ By a limiting argument, this implies, in particular, global existence for small initial data in $H^1.$ Finally, we study the question of almost everywhere (a.e.) convergence of solutions of the initial value problem to initial data.

On the regularity of solutions to the $k$-generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation

This work is concerned with special regularity properties of solutions to the $k$-generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation. In \cite{IsazaLinaresPonce} it was established that if the initial datun $u_0\in H^l((b,\infty))$ for some $l\in\mathbb Z^+$ and $b\in \mathbb R$, then the corresponding solution $u(\cdot,t)$ belongs to $H^l((β,\infty))$ for any $β\in \mathbb R$ and any $t\in (0,T)$. Our goal here is to extend this result to the case where $\,l\in \mathbb R^+$.

Properties of solutions to the Camassa-Holm equation on the line in a class containing the peakons

We study special properties of solutions to the IVP associated to the Camassa-Holm equation on the line related to the regularity and the decay of solutions. The first aim is to show how the regularity on the initial data is transferred to the corresponding solution in a class containing the "peakon solutions". In particular, we shall show that the local regularity is similar to that exhibited by the solution of the inviscid Burger's equation with the same initial datum. The second goal is to prove that the decay results obtained in a paper of Himonas, Misiołek, Ponce, and Zhou extend to the class of solutions considered here.

On the propagation of regularity of solutions of the Kadomtsev-Petviashvilli (KPII) equation

We shall deduce some special regularity properties of solutions to the IVP associated to the KPII equation. Mainly, for datum $u_0\in X_s(\mathbb R^2)$, $s>2$, (see (1.2) below) whose restriction belongs to $H^m((x_0,\infty)\times\mathbb R)$ for some $m\in\mathbb Z^+,\,m\geq 3,$ and $x_0\in \mathbb R$, we shall prove that the restriction of the corresponding solution $u(\cdot,t)$ belongs to $H^m((β,\infty)\times\mathbb R)$ for any $β\in \mathbb R$ and any $t>0$.

Control and Stabilization of the Benjamin-Ono equation in $L^2(\mathbb T)$

We prove the control and stabilization of the Benjamin-Ono equation in $L^2(\T)$, the lowest regularity where the initial value problem is well-posed. This problem was already initiated in \cite{LinaresRosierBO} where a stronger stabilization term was used (that makes the equation of parabolic type in the control zone). Here we employ a more natural stabilization term related to the $L^2$ norm. Moreover, by proving a theorem of controllability in $L^2$, we manage to prove the global controllability in large time. Our analysis relies strongly on the bilinear estimates proved in \cite{MolinetPilodBO} and some new extension of these estimates established here.

Decay properties for solutions of fifth order nonlinear dispersive equations

We consider the initial value problem associated to a large class of fifth order nonlinear dispersive equations. This class includes several models arising in the study of different physical phenomena. Our aim is to establish special (space) decay properties of solutions to these systems. These properties complement previous unique continuation results and in some case, show that they are optimal. These decay estimates reflect the "parabolic character" of these dispersive models in exponential weighted spaces. This principle was first obtained by T. Kato in solutions of the KdV equation

On the propagation of regularities in solutions of the Benjamin-Ono equation

We shall deduce some special regularity properties of solutions to the IVP associated to the Benjamin-Ono equation. Mainly, for datum $u_0\in H^{3/2}(\mathbb R)$ whose restriction belongs to $H^m((b,\infty))$ for some $m\in\mathbb Z^+,\,m\geq 2,$ and $b\in \mathbb R$ we shall prove that the restriction of the corresponding solution $u(\cdot,t)$ belongs to $H^m((β,\infty))$ for any $β\in \mathbb R$ and any $t>0$. Therefore, this type of regularity of the datum travels with infinite speed to its left as time evolves.

Propagation of regularity and decay of solutions to the $k$-generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation

We study special regularity and decay properties of solutions to the IVP associated to the $k$-generalized KdV equations. In particular, for datum $u_0\in H^{3/4^+}(\mathbb R)$ whose restriction belongs to $H^l((b,\infty))$ for some $l\in\mathbb Z^+$ and $b\in \mathbb R$ we prove that the restriction of the corresponding solution $u(\cdot,t)$ belongs to $H^l((β,\infty))$ for any $β\in \mathbb R$ and any $t\in (0,T)$. Thus, this type of regularity propagates with infinite speed to its left as time evolves.

Well-posedness results for the dispersion generalized Benjamin-Ono equation via the contraction principle

We study the initial value problem associated to the dispersion generalized Benjamin-Ono equation. Our aim is to establish well-posedness results in weighted Sobolev spaces via contraction principle under minimal requirements in the weighted order of the space. One of our new main ideas is the deduction of a pointwise estimate concerning the group describing the solution of the linear problem and the fractional weights.

Control and Stabilization of the Benjamin-Ono Equation on a Periodic Domain

It was proved by Linares and Ortega that the linearized Benjamin-Ono equation posed on a periodic domain T with a distributed control supported on an arbitrary subdomain is exactly controllable and exponentially stabilizable. The aim of this paper is to extend those results to the full Benjamin-Ono equation. A feedback law in the form of a localized damping is incorporated in the equation. A smoothing effect established with the aid of a propagation of regularity property is used to prove the semi-global stabilization in L^2(T) of weak solutions obtained by the method of vanishing viscosity. The local well-posedness and the local exponential stability in H^s(T) are also established for s>1/2 by using the contraction mapping theorem. Finally, the local exact controllability is derived in H^s(T) for s>1/2 by combining the above feedback law with some open loop control.

On decay properties of solutions of the $k$-generalized KdV equations

We prove special decay properties of solutions to the initial value problem associated to the $k$-generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation. These are related with persistence properties of the solution flow in weighted Sobolev spaces and with sharp unique continuation properties of solutions to this equation. As application of our method we also obtain results concerning the decay behavior of perturbations of the traveling wave solutions as well as results for solutions corresponding to special data.

On the Cauchy problem for a Boussinesq type system

We consider the initial value problem (IVP) associated to a Boussinesq type system. After rewriting the system in an equivalent form of coupled KdV-type equations, we prove that this is locally well-posed in $(H^s(\R^2))^4$, $s>3/2$, using sharp smoothing estimates. Consequently we obtain the local well-posedness result for the original system in $H^s\times \mathcal{V}^{s+1}$ for $s>3/2$ (see below for the definition of $\mathcal{V}^{s}$).

The Cauchy problem for the Euler-Poisson system and derivation of the Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation

We consider in this paper the rigorous justification of the Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation from the Euler-Poisson system for uniformly magnetized plasmas. We first provide a proof of the local well-posedness of the Cauchy problem for the aforementioned system in dimensions two and three. Then we prove that the long-wave small-amplitude limit is described by the Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation. This is done first in the case of cold plasma; we then show how to extend this result in presence of the isothermal pressure term with uniform estimates when this latter goes to zero.

The IVP for the dispersion generalized Benjamin-Ono equation in weighted Sobolev spaces

We study the initial value problem associated to the dispersion generalized Benjamin-Ono equation. Our aim is to establish well posedness results in weighted Sobolev spaces and to deduce from them some sharp unique continuation properties of solutions to this equation. In particular, we shall establish optimal decay rate for the solutions of this model.

A note on the 2D generalized Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation: local, global, and scattering results

We consider the generalized two-dimensional Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation $u_t+\partial_x Δu+\partial_x(u^{k+1})=0$, where $k\geq3$ is an integer number. For $k\geq8$ we prove local well-posedness in the $L^2$-based Sobolev spaces $H^s(\mathbb{R}^2)$, where $s$ is greater than the critical scaling index $s_k=1-2/k$. For $k\geq 3$ we also establish a sharp criteria to obtain global $H^1(\R^2)$ solutions. A nonlinear scattering result in $H^1(\R^2)$ is also established assuming the initial data is small and belongs to a suitable Lebesgue space.

The IVP for the Benjamin-Ono equation in weighted Sobolev spaces II

In this work we continue our study initiated in \cite{GFGP} on the uniqueness properties of real solutions to the IVP associated to the Benjamin-Ono (BO) equation. In particular, we shall show that the uniqueness results established in \cite{GFGP} do not extend to any pair of non-vanishing solutions of the BO equation. Also, we shall prove that the uniqueness result established in \cite{GFGP} under a hypothesis involving information of the solution at three different times can not be relaxed to two different times.

Well-posednesss of strongly dispersive two-dimensional surface waves Boussinesq systems

We consider in this paper the well-posedness for the Cauchy problem associated to two-dimensional dispersive systems of Boussinesq type which model weakly nonlinear long wave surface waves. We emphasize the case of the {\it strongly dispersive} ones with focus on the "KdV-KdV" system which possesses the strongest dispersive properties and which is a vector two-dimensional extension of the classical KdV equation.

Local and global well-posedness for the 2D generalized Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation

This paper addresses well-posedness issues for the initial value problem (IVP) associated with the generalized Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation, namely, \{equation*} \quad \left\{\{array}{lll} {\displaystyle u_t+\partial_x Δu+u^ku_x = 0,}\qquad (x,y) \in \mathbb{R}^2, \,\,\,\, t>0, {\displaystyle u(x,y,0)=u_0(x,y)}. \{array} \right. \{equation*} For $2\leq k \leq 7$, the IVP above is shown to be locally well-posed for data in $H^s(\mathbb{R}^2)$, $s>3/4$. For $k\geq8$, local well-posedness is shown to hold for data in $H^s(\mathbb{R}^2)$, $s>s_k$, where $s_k=1-3/(2k-4)$. Furthermore, for $k\geq3$, if $u_0\in H^1(\mathbb{R}^2)$ and satisfies $\|u_0\|_{H^1}\ll1$, then the solution is shown to be global in $H^1(\mathbb{R}^2)$. For $k=2$, if $u_0\in H^s(\mathbb{R}^2)$, $s>53/63$, and satisfies $\|u_0\|_{L^2}<\sqrt3 \, \|ϕ\|_{L^2}$, where $ϕ$ is the corresponding ground state solution, then the solution is shown to be global in $H^s(\mathbb{R}^2)$.

The supercritical generalized KdV equation: Global well-posedness in the energy space and below

We consider the generalized Korteweg-de Vries (gKdV) equation $\partial_t u+\partial_x^3u+μ\partial_x(u^{k+1})=0$, where $k\geq5$ is an integer number and $μ=\pm1$. In the focusing case ($μ=1$), we show that if the initial data $u_0$ belongs to $H^1(\R)$ and satisfies $E(u_0)^{s_k} M(u_0)^{1-s_k} < E(Q)^{s_k} M(Q)^{1-s_k}$, $E(u_0)\geq0$, and $\|\partial_x u_0\|_{L^2}^{s_k}\|u_0\|_{L^2}^{1-s_k} < \|\partial_x Q\|_{L^2}^{s_k}\|Q\|_{L^2}^{1-s_k}$, where $M(u)$ and $E(u)$ are the mass and energy, then the corresponding solution is global in $H^1(\R)$. Here, $s_k=\frac{(k-4)}{2k}$ and $Q$ is the ground state solution corresponding to the gKdV equation. In the defocusing case ($μ=-1$), if $k$ is even, we prove that the Cauchy problem is globally well-posed in the Sobolev spaces $H^s(\mathbb{R})$, $s>\frac{4(k-1)}{5k}$.
