Whole-Body Control with Motion/Force Transmissibility for Parallel-Legged Robot

For achieving kinematically suitable configurations and highly dynamic task execution, an efficient way is to consider robot performance indices in the whole-body control (WBC) of robots. However, current WBC methods have not considered the intrinsic features of parallel robots, especially motion/force transmissibility (MFT). This paper proposes an MFT-enhanced WBC scheme for parallel-legged robots. Introducing the performance indices of MFT into a WBC is challenging due to the nonlinear relationship between MFT indices and the robot configuration. To overcome this challenge, we establish the MFT preferable space of the robot offline and formulate it as a polyhedron in the joint space at the acceleration level. Then, the WBC employs the polyhedron as a soft constraint. As a result, the robot possesses high-speed and high-acceleration capabilities by satisfying this constraint. The offline preprocessing relieves the online computation burden and helps the WBC achieve a 1kHz servo rate. Finally, we validate the performance and robustness of the proposed method via simulations and experiments on a parallel-legged bipedal robot.

Quaternionic slice regular functions and quaternionic Laplace transforms

The functions studied in the paper are quaternion-valued functions of a quaternionic variable. It is show that the left slice regular functions and right slice regular functions are related by a particular involution. The relation between left slice regular functions, right slice regular functions and intrinsic regular functions is revealed. The classical Laplace transform can be naturally generalized to quaternions in two different ways, which transform a quaternion-valued function of a real variable to a left or right slice regular quaternion-valued function of a quaternionic variable. The usual properties of the classical Laplace transforms are generalized to quaternionic Laplace transforms.

Electrically Tunable Wafer-Sized Three-Dimensional Topological Insulator Thin Films Grown by Magnetron Sputtering

Three-dimensional (3D) topological insulators (TIs) are candidate materials for various electronic and spintronic devices due to their strong spin-orbit coupling and unique surface electronic structure. Rapid, low-cost preparation of large-area TI thin films compatible with conventional semiconductor technology is key to the practical applications of TIs. Here, we show that wafer-sized Bi2Te3 family TI and magnetic TI films with decent quality and well-controlled composition and properties can be prepared on amorphous SiO2/Si substrates by magnetron cosputtering. The SiO2/Si substrates enable us to electrically tune (Bi1-xSbx)2Te3 and Cr-doped (Bi1-xSbx)2Te3 TI films between p-type and n-type behavior and thus study the phenomena associated with topological surface states, such as the quantum anomalous Hall effect (QAHE). This work significantly facilitates the fabrication of TI-based devices for electronic and spintronic applications.

Multiplicity free gradings on semisimple Lie and Jordan algebras and skew root

A $G$-grading on an algebra is called multiplicity free if each homogeneous component of the grading is 1-dimensional, where $G$ is an abelian group. We introduce skew root systems of Lie type and skew root systems of Jordan type respectively, and use them to construct multiplicity free gradings on semisimple Lie algebras and on semisimple Jordan algebras respectively. Under certain conditions the corresponding Lie (resp. Jordan) algebras are simple. Three families of skew root systems of Lie type (resp. of Jordan type) are constructed and the corresponding Lie (resp. Jordan) algebras are identified. This is a new approach to study abelian group gradings on Lie and Jordan algebras.

Fine gradings of complex simple Lie algebras and Finite Root Systems

A $G$-grading on a complex semisimple Lie algebra $L$, where $G$ is a finite abelian group, is called quasi-good if each homogeneous component is 1-dimensional and 0 is not in the support of the grading. Analogous to classical root systems, we define a finite root system $R$ to be some subset of a finite symplectic abelian group satisfying certain axioms. There always corresponds to $R$ a semisimple Lie algebra $L(R)$ together with a quasi-good grading on it. Thus one can construct nice basis of $L(R)$ by means of finite root systems. We classify finite maximal abelian subgroups $T$ in $\Aut(L)$ for complex simple Lie algebras $L$ such that the grading induced by the action of $T$ on $L$ is quasi-good, and show that the set of roots of $T$ in $L$ is always a finite root system. There are five series of such finite maximal abelian subgroups, which occur only if $L$ is a classical simple Lie algebra.

Maximal eigenvalues of a Casimir operator and multiplicity-free modules

Let $\g$ be a finite-dimensional complex semisimple Lie algebra and $\b$ a Borel subalgebra. Then $\g$ acts on its exterior algebra $\w\g$ naturally. We prove that the maximal eigenvalue of the Casimir operator on $\w\g$ is one third of the dimension of $\g$, that the maximal eigenvalue $m_i$ of the Casimir operator on $\w^i\g$ is increasing for $0\le i\le r$, where $r$ is the number of positive roots, and that the corresponding eigenspace $M_i$ is a multiplicity-free $\g$-module whose highest weight vectors corresponding to certain ad-nilpotent ideals of $\b$. We also obtain a result describing the set of weights of the irreducible representation of $\g$ with highest weight a multiple of $ρ$, where $ρ$ is one half the sum of positive roots.

The Weyl group of the fine grading of $sl(n,\mathbb{C})$ associated with tensor product of generalized Pauli matrices

We consider the fine grading of $sl(n,\mb C)$ induced by tensor product of generalized Pauli matrices in the paper. Based on the classification of maximal diagonalizable subgroups of $PGL(n,\mb C)$ by Havlicek, Patera and Pelantova, we prove that any finite maximal diagonalizable subgroup $K$ of $PGL(n,\mb C)$ is a symplectic abelian group and its Weyl group, which describes the symmetry of the fine grading induced by the action of $K$, is just the isometry group of the symplectic abelian group $K$. For a finite symplectic abelian group, it is also proved that its isometry group is always generated by the transvections contained in it.
