On the closure of Absolutely Norm attaining Operators

Let H1H_1 and H2H_2 be complex Hilbert spaces and T:H1→H2T:H_1\rightarrow H_2 be a bounded linear operator. We say TT to be norm attaining, if there exists x∈H1x\in H_1 with ∥x∥=1\|x\|=1 such that ∥Tx∥=∥T∥\|Tx\|=\|T\|. If for every closed subspace MM of H1H_1, the restriction T∣M:M→H2T|_{M}:M\rightarrow H_2 is norm attaining then, TT is called absolutely norm attaining operator or AN\mathcal{AN}-operator. If we replace the norm of the operator by the minimum modulus m(T)=inf⁡{∥Tx∥:x∈H1,  ∥x∥=1}m(T)=\inf{\{\|Tx\|:x\in H_1,\; \|x\|=1}\}, then TT is called the minimum attaining and the absolutely minimum attaining operator (or AM\mathcal{AM}-operator) respectively. In this article, we discuss about the operator norm closure of the AN\mathcal{AN}-operators. We completely characterize operators in this closure and study several important properties. We mainly give the spectral characterization of the positive operators in this class and give the representation when the operator is normal. Later we also study the analogous properties for AM\mathcal{AM}-operators and prove that the closure of AM\mathcal{AM}-operators is same as that of the closure of AN\mathcal{AN}-operators. As a consequence, we prove similar results for operators in the norm closure of AM\mathcal{AM}-operators.

Representation and normality of Hyponormal operators in the closure of AN\mathcal{AN}-operators

Let H1H_1, H2H_2 be complex Hilbert spaces. A bounded linear operator T:H1→H2T : H_1 \to H_2 is said to be norm attaining if there exists a unit vector x∈H1x \in H_1 such that ∥Tx∥=∥T∥\|Tx\| = \|T\|. If T∣M:M→H2T|_{M} : M \to H_2 is norm attaining for every closed subspace MM of H1H_1, then we say that TT is an absolutely norm attaining (AN\mathcal{AN}-operator). If the norm of the operator is replaced by the minimum modulus m(T)=inf⁡{∥Tx∥:x∈H1,∥x∥=1}m(T) = \inf\{\|Tx\| : x \in H_1, \|x\| =1\}, then TT is said to be a minimum attaining and an absolutely minimum attaining operator (AM\mathcal{AM}-operator), respectively. In this article, we give representations of quasinormal AN\mathcal{AN}, AM\mathcal{AM}-operators and the operators in the closure of these two classes. Later we extend these results to the class of hyponormal operators in the closure of AN\mathcal{AN}-operators and a further look at some sufficient conditions under which these operators become normal.

Spectral representation of absolutely minimum attaining unbounded normal operators

Let T:D(T)→H2T:D(T)\rightarrow H_2 be a densely defined closed operator with domain D(T)⊂H1D(T)\subset H_1. We say TT to be absolutely minimum attaining if for every closed subspace MM of H1H_1, the restriction operator T∣M:D(T)∩M→H2T|_M:D(T)\cap M\rightarrow H_2 attains its minimum modulus m(T∣M)m(T|_{M}). That is, there exists x∈D(T)∩Mx \in D(T)\cap M with ∥x∥=1\|x\|= 1 and ∥T(x)∥=inf⁡{∥T(m)∥:m∈D(T)∩M:∥m∥=1}\|T(x)\| = \inf \{\|T(m)\|: m \in D(T) \cap M: \|m\|=1\}. In this article, we prove several characterizations of this class of operators and show that every operator in this class has a nontrivial hyperinvariant subspace. We also prove a spectral theorem for unbounded normal operators of this class. It turns out that every such operator has a compact resolvent.

Weyl's theorem for commuting tuple of paranormal and ∗\ast-paranormal operators

In this article, we show that a commuting pair T=(T1,T2)T=(T_1,T_2) of ∗\ast-paranormal operators T1T_1 and T2T_2 with quasitriangular property satisfy the Weyl's theorem-I, that is σT(T)∖σTW(T)=π00(T)σ_T(T)\setminusσ_{T_W}(T)=π_{00}(T) and a commuting pair of paranormal operators satisfy Weyl's theorem-II, that is σT(T)∖ω(T)=π00(T),σ_T(T)\setminusω(T)=π_{00}(T), where σT(T), σTW(T), ω(T)σ_T(T),\, σ_{T_W}(T),\,ω(T) and π00(T)π_{00}(T) are the Taylor spectrum, the Taylor Weyl spectrum, the joint Weyl spectrum and the set consisting of isolated eigenvalues of TT with finite multiplicity, respectively. Moreover, we prove that Weyl's theorem-II holds for f(T)f(T), where TT is a commuting pair of paranormal operators and ff is an analytic function in a neighbourhood of σT(T)σ_T(T).

Weyl's theorem for paranormal closed operators

In this article we discuss a few spectral properties of a paranormal closed operator (not necessarily bounded) defined in a Hilbert space. This class contains closed symmetric operators. First we show that the spectrum of such an operator is non empty. Next, we give a characterization of closed range operators in terms of the spectrum. Using these results we prove the Weyl's theorem: if TT is a densely defined closed, paranormal operator, then σ(T)∖ω(T)=π00(T)σ(T)\setminusω(T)=π_{00}(T), where σ(T),ω(T)σ(T), ω(T) and π00(T)π_{00}(T) denote the spectrum, Weyl spectrum and the set of all isolated eigenvalues with finite multiplicities, respectively. Finally, we prove that the Riesz projection EλE_λ with respect to any isolated spectral value λλ of TT is self-adjoint and satisfies R(Eλ)=N(T−λI)=N(T−λI)∗R(E_λ)=N(T-λI)=N(T-λI)^*.

Bianchi Type-III Dark Energy Model in f(R,T) gravity with a variable Deceleration parameter

In this paper, we have investigated Bianchi Type-III Dark Energy Model in f(R,T) theory of gravity proposed by Harko et al. (Phys. Rev. D84 : 024020, 2011). To find a determinate solution of the field equations we have used (i) the fact that scalar expansion of the space-time is proportional to the shear scalar and (ii) a variable deceleration parameter given by Mishra et al. (Int. J. Theor. Phys. 52: 2546, 2013). Physical and kinematical properties of the model are also discussed. It is observed that our model is in agreement with the recent cosmological observations.

On the polar decomposition of right linear operators in quaternionic Hilbert spaces

In this article we prove the existence of the polar decomposition for densely defined closed right linear operators in quaternionic Hilbert spaces: If TT is a densely defined closed right linear operator in a quaternionic Hilbert space HH, then there exists a partial isometry U0U_{0} such that T=U0∣T∣T = U_{0}|T|. In fact U0U_{0} is unique if N(U0)=N(T)N(U_{0}) = N(T). In particular, if HH is separable and UU is a partial isometry with T=U∣T∣T = U|T|, then we prove that U=U0U = U_{0} if and only if either N(T)={0}N(T) = \{0\} or R(T)⊥={0}R(T)^{\bot} = \{0\}.

Perturbation of closed range operators and Moore-Penrose inverse

Let H1,H2H_1,H_2 be complex Hilbert spaces and T:H1→H2T:H_1\rightarrow H_2 be a densely defined closed operator with domain D(T)⊆H1D(T)\subseteq H_1 and T†T^{\dagger} be the Moore-Penrose inverse of TT. Let S:H1→H2S:H_1\rightarrow H_2 be a bounded operator. In this article we focus our attention on the following questions: 1.1. Under what conditions closedness of range of TT will imply the closedness of range of T+ST+S? 2.2. What is the relation between T†T^{\dagger} and (T+S)†(T+S)^{\dagger}? 3.3. What is the relation between T†T^{\dagger} and S†S^{\dagger}?.
