Weyl-von Neumann-Berg theorem for quaternionic operators

preprint2015arXivOpen access

Abstract

We prove the Weyl-von Neumann-Berg theorem for quaternionic right linear operators (not necessarily bounded) in a quaternionic Hilbert space: Let NN be a right linear normal (need not be bounded) operator in a quaternionic separable Hilbert space HH. Then for a given ε>0ε>0 there exists a compact operator KK with ∥K∥<ε\|K\|<ε and a diagonal operator DD on HH such that N=D+KN=D+K.
