Low energy limit for the resolvent of some fibered boundary operators

For certain Dirac operators $ð_ϕ$ associated to a fibered boundary metric $g_ϕ$, we provide a pseudodifferential characterization of the limiting behavior of $(ð_ϕ+kγ)^{-1}$ as $k\searrow 0$, where $γ$ is a self-adjoint operator anti-commuting with $ð_ϕ$ and whose square is the identity. This yields in particular a pseudodifferential characterization of the low energy limit of the resolvent of $ð_ϕ^2$, generalizing a result of Guillarmou and Sher about the low energy limit of the resolvent of the Hodge Laplacian of an asymptotically conical metric. As an application, we use our result to give a pseudodifferential characterization of the inverse of some suspended version of the operator $ð_ϕ$. One important ingredient in the proof of our main theorem is that the Dirac operator $ð_ϕ$ is Fredholm when acting on suitable weighted Sobolev spaces. This result has been known to experts for some time and we take this as an occasion to provide a complete explicit proof.

A Cheeger-Müller theorem for manifolds with wedge singularities

We study the spectrum and heat kernel of the Hodge Laplacian with coefficients in a flat bundle on a closed manifold degenerating to a manifold with wedge singularities. Provided the Hodge Laplacians in the fibers of the wedge have an appropriate spectral gap, we give uniform constructions of the resolvent and heat kernel on suitable manifolds with corners. When the wedge manifold and the base of the wedge are odd dimensional, this is used to obtain a Cheeger-Müller theorem relating analytic torsion with the Reidemeister torsion of the natural compactification by a manifold with boundary.

Renormalized volume on the Teichmüller space of punctured surfaces

We define and study the renormalized volume for geometrically finite hyperbolic $3$-manifolds, including with rank-$1$ cusps. We prove a variation formula, and show that for certain families of convex co-compact hyperbolic metrics $g_\eps$ degenerating to a geometrically finite hyperbolic metric $g_0$ with rank-$1$ cusps, the renormalized volume converges to the renormalized volume of the limiting metric.

Hodge cohomology of some foliated boundary and foliated cusp metrics

For fibred boundary and fibred cusp metrics, Hausel, Hunsicker, and Mazzeo identified the space of $L^2$ harmonic forms of fixed degree with the images of maps between intersection cohomology groups of an associated stratified space obtained by collapsing the fibres of the fibration at infinity onto its base. In the present paper, we obtain a generalization of this result to situations where, rather than a fibration at infinity, there is a Riemannian foliation with compact leaves admitting a resolution by a fibration. If the associated stratified space (obtained now by collapsing the leaves of the foliation) is a Witt space and if the metric considered is a foliated cusp metric, then no such resolution is required.

Polyhomogénéité des métriques asymptotiquement hyperboliques complexes le long du flot de Ricci

We show that the polyhomogeneity at infinity of an asymptotically complex hyperbolic metric is preserved along the Ricci-DeTurck flow. Moreover, if the initial metric is `smooth up to the boundary', this will be preserved by the Ricci-DeTurck flow and the normalized Ricci flow. When the initial metric is Kähler, sharper results are obtained in terms of a potential.

The moduli space of asymptotically cylindrical Calabi-Yau manifolds

We prove that the deformation theory of compactifiable asymptotically cylindrical Calabi-Yau manifolds is unobstructed. This relies on a detailed study of the Dolbeault-Hodge theory and its description in terms of the cohomology of the compactification. We also show that these Calabi-Yau metrics admit a polyhomogeneous expansion at infinity, a result that we extend to asymptotically conical Calabi-Yau metrics as well. We then study the moduli space of Calabi-Yau deformations that fix the complex structure at infinity. There is a Weil-Petersson metric on this space which we show is Kähler. By proving a local families L^2 index theorem, we exhibit its Kähler form as a multiple of the curvature of a certain determinant line bundle.

Asymptotics of complete Kahler metrics of finite volume on quasiprojective manifolds

Let X be a quasiprojective manifold given by the complement of a divisor $\bD$ with normal crossings in a smooth projective manifold $\bX$. Using a natural compactification of $X$ by a manifold with corners $\tX$, we describe the full asymptotic behavior at infinity of certain complete Kahler metrics of finite volume on X. When these metrics evolve according to the Ricci flow, we prove that such asymptotic behaviors persist at later time by showing the associated potential function is smooth up to the boundary on the compactification $\tX$. However, when the divisor $\bD$ is smooth with $K_{\bX}+[\bD]>0$ and the Ricci flow converges to a Kahler-Einstein metric, we show that this Kahler-Einstein metric has a rather different asymptotic behavior at infinity, since its associated potential function is polyhomogeneous with in general some logarithmic terms occurring in its expansion at the boundary.

Ricci flow and the determinant of the Laplacian on non-compact surfaces

On compact surfaces with or without boundary, Osgood, Phillips and Sarnak proved that the maximum of the determinant of the Laplacian within a conformal class of metrics with fixed area occurs at a metric of constant curvature and, for negative Euler characteristic, exhibited a flow from a given metric to a constant curvature metric along which the determinant increases. The aim of this paper is to perform a similar analysis for the determinant of the Laplacian on a non-compact surface whose ends are asymptotic to hyperbolic funnels or cusps. In that context, we show that the Ricci flow converges to a metric of constant curvature and that the determinant increases along this flow.

Compactness of relatively isospectral sets of surfaces via conformal surgeries

We introduce a notion of relative isospectrality for surfaces with boundary having possibly non-compact ends either conformally compact or asymptotic to cusps. We obtain a compactness result for such families via a conformal surgery that allows us to reduce to the case of surfaces hyperbolic near infinity recently studied by Borthwick and Perry, or to the closed case by Osgood, Phillips and Sarnak if there are only cusps.

Eta forms and the odd pseudodifferential families index

Let $A(t)$ be an elliptic, product-type suspended (which is to say parameter-dependant in a symbolic way) family of pseudodifferential operators on the fibres of a fibration $ϕ$ with base $Y.$ The standard example is $A+it$ where $A$ is a family, in the usual sense, of first order, self-adjoint and elliptic pseudodifferential operators and $t\in\bbR$ is the `suspending' parameter. Let $π_{\cA}:\cA(ϕ)\longrightarrow Y$ be the infinite-dimensional bundle with fibre at $y\in Y$ consisting of the Schwartz-smoothing perturbations, $q,$ making $A_y(t)+q(t)$ invertible for all $t\in\bbR.$ The total eta form, $η_{\cA},$ as described here, is an even form on $\cA(ϕ)$ which has basic differential which is an explicit representative of the odd Chern character of the index of the family: % dη_{\cA}=π_{\cA}^*γ_A, \Ch(\ind(A))=[γ_{A}]\in H^{\odd}(Y). \tag{*}\label{efatoi.5} % The 1-form part of this identity may be interpreted in terms of the $τ$ invariant (exponentiated eta invariant) as the determinant of the family. The 2-form part of the eta form may be interpreted as a B-field on the K-theory gerbe for the family $A$ with \eqref{efatoi.5} giving the `curving' as the 3-form part of the Chern character of the index. We also give `universal' versions of these constructions over a classifying space for odd K-theory. For Dirac-type operators, we relate $η_{\cA}$ with the Bismut-Cheeger eta form.

Pseudodifferential operators on manifolds with fibred corners

One way to geometrically encode the singularities of a stratified pseudomanifold is to endow its interior with an iterated fibred cusp metric. For such a metric, we develop and study a pseudodifferential calculus generalizing the Φ-calculus of Mazzeo and Melrose. Our starting point is the observation, going back to Melrose, that a stratified pseudomanifold can be `resolved' into a manifold with fibred corners. This allows us to define pseudodifferential operators as conormal distributions on a suitably blown-up double space. Various symbol maps are introduced, leading to the notion of full ellipticity. This is used to construct refined parametrices and to provide criteria for the mapping properties of operators such as Fredholmness or compactness. We also introduce a semiclassical version of the calculus and use it to establish a Poincaré duality between the K-homology of the stratified pseudomanifold and the K-group of fully elliptic operators.

Pseudodifferential operators on manifolds with foliated boundaries

Let X be a smooth compact manifold with boundary. For smooth foliations on the boundary of X admitting a `resolution' in terms of a fibration, we construct a pseudodifferential calculus generalizing the fibred cusp calculus of Mazzeo and Melrose. In particular, we introduce certain symbols leading to a simple description of the Fredholm operators inside the calculus. When the leaves of the fibration `resolving' the foliation are compact, we also obtain an index formula for Fredholm perturbations of Dirac-type operators. Along the way, we obtain a formula for the adiabatic limit of the eta invariant for invertible perturbations of Dirac-type operators, a result of independent interest generalizing the well-known formula of Bismut and Cheeger.
