Convergence and almost sure properties in Hardy spaces of Dirichlet series

Given a frequency $λ$, we study general Dirichlet series $\sum a_n e^{-λ_n s}$. First, we give a new condition on $λ$ which ensures that a somewhere convergent Dirichlet series defining a bounded holomorphic function in the right half-plane converges uniformly in this half-plane, improving classical results of Bohr and Landau. Then, following recent works of Defant and Schoolmann, we investigate Hardy spaces of these Dirichlet series. We get general results on almost sure convergence which have an harmonic analysis flavour. Nevertheless, we also exhibit examples showing that it seems hard to get general results on these spaces as spaces of holomorphic functions.

Baire theorem and hypercyclic algebras

The question of whether a hypercyclic operator $T$ acting on a Fr{é}chet algebra $X$ admits or not an algebra of hypercyclic vectors (but 0) has been addressed in the recent literature. In this paper we give new criteria and characterizations in the context of convolution operators acting on $H(\mathbb C)$ and backward shifts acting on a general Fr{é}chet sequence algebra.Analogous questions arise for stronger properties like frequent hypercyclicity. In this trend we give a sufficient condition for a weighted backward shift to admit an upper frequently hypercyclic algebra and we find a weighted backward shift acting on $c_0$ admitting a frequently hypercyclic algebra for the coordinatewise product. The closed hypercyclic algebra problem is also covered.

Monomial convergence for holomorphic functions on $\ell\_r$

Let $\mathcal F$ be either the set of all bounded holomorphic functions or the set of all $m$-homogeneous polynomials on the unit ball of $\ell\_r$. We give a systematic study of the sets of all $u\in\ell\_r$ for which the monomial expansion $\sum\_α\frac{\partial^αf(0)}{α!}u^α$ of every $f\in\mathcal F$ converges. Inspired by recent results from the general theory of Dirichlet series, we establish as our main tool, independently interesting, upper estimates for the unconditional basis constants of spaces of polynomials on $\ell\_r$ spanned by finite sets of monomials.

Approximation numbers of composition operators on $H^p$ spaces of Dirichlet series

By a theorem of Bayart, $φ$ generates a bounded composition operator on the Hardy space $\Hp$of Dirichlet series ($1\le p<\infty$) only if $φ(s)=c_0 s+ψ(s)$, where $c_0$ is a nonnegative integer and $ψ$ a Dirichlet series with the following mapping properties: $ψ$ maps the right half-plane into the half-plane $\Real s >1/2$ if $c_0=0$ and is either identically zero or maps the right half-plane into itself if $c_0$ is positive. It is shown that the $n$th approximation numbers of bounded composition operators on $\Hp$ are bounded below by a constant times $r^n$ for some $0<r<1$ when $c_0=0$ and bounded below by a constant times $n^{-A}$ for some $A>0$ when $c_0$ is positive. Both results are best possible. Estimates rely on a combination of soft tools from Banach space theory ($s$-numbers, type and cotype of Banach spaces, Weyl inequalities, and Schauder bases) and a certain interpolation method for $\Ht$, developed in an earlier paper, using estimates of solutions of the $\overline{\partial}$ equation. A transference principle from $H^p$ of the unit disc is discussed, leading to explicit examples of compact composition operators on $\Ho$ with approximation numbers decaying at a variety of sub-exponential rates. Finally, a new Littlewood--Paley formula is established, yielding a sufficient condition for a composition operator on $\Hp$ to be compact.

Common hypercyclic vectors for high dimensional families of operators

Let $(T\_λ)\_{λ\inΛ}$ be a family of operators acting on a $F$-space $X$, where the parameter space $Λ$ is a subset of $\mathbb R^d$. We give sufficient conditions on the family to yield the existence of a vector $x\in X$ such that, for any $λ\inΛ$, the set $\big\{T\_λ^n x;\ n\geq 1\big\}$ is dense in $X$. We obtain results valid for any value of $d\geq 1$ whereas the previously known results where restricted to $d=1$. Our methods also shed new light on the one-dimensional case.

Optimal Hardy-Littlewood type inequalities for polynomials and multilinear operators

In this paper we obtain quite general and definitive forms for Hardy-Littlewood type inequalities. Moreover, when restricted to the original particular cases, our approach provides much simpler and straightforward proofs and we are able to show that in most cases the exponents involved are optimal. The technique we used is a combination of probabilistic tools and of an interpolative approach; this former technique is also employed in this paper to improve the constants for vector-valued Bohnenblust--Hille type inequalities.

Boundary multifractal behaviour for harmonic functions in the ball

It is well known that if $h$ is a nonnegative harmonic function in the ball of $\RR^{d+1}$ or if $h$ is harmonic in the ball with integrable boundary values, then the radial limit of $h$ exists at almost every point of the boundary. In this paper, we are interested in the exceptional set of points of divergence and in the speed of divergence at these points. In particular, we prove that for generic harmonic functions and for any $β\in [0,d]$, the Hausdorff dimension of the set of points $ξ$ on the sphere such that $h(rξ)$ looks like $(1-r)^{-β}$ is equal to $d-β$.

Mixing operators and small subsets of the circle

We provide complete characterizations, on Banach spaces with cotype 2, of those linear operators which happen to be weakly mixing or strongly mixing transformations with respect to some nondegenerate Gaussian measure. These characterizations involve two families of small subsets of the circle: the countable sets, and the so-called sets of uniqueness for Fourier-Stieltjes series. The most interesting part, i.e. the sufficient conditions for weak and strong mixing, is valid on an arbitrary (complex, separable) Fréchet space.

Multifractal analysis of the divergence of Fourier series

A famous theorem of Carleson says that, given any function $f\in L^p(\TT)$, $p\in(1,+\infty)$, its Fourier series $(S_nf(x))$ converges for almost every $x\in \mathbb T$. Beside this property, the series may diverge at some point, without exceeding $O(n^{1/p})$. We define the divergence index at $x$ as the infimum of the positive real numbers $β$ such that $S_nf(x)=O(n^β)$ and we are interested in the size of the exceptional sets $E_β$, namely the sets of $x\in\mathbb T$ with divergence index equal to $β$. We show that quasi-all functions in $L^p(\TT)$ have a multifractal behavior with respect to this definition. Precisely, for quasi-all functions in $L^p(\mathbb T)$, for all $β\in[0,1/p]$, $E_β$ has Hausdorff dimension equal to $1-βp$. We also investigate the same problem in $\mathcal C(\mathbb T)$, replacing polynomial divergence by logarithmic divergence. In this context, the results that we get on the size of the exceptional sets are rather surprizing.

On the Hausdorff dimension of graphs of prevalent continuous functions on compact sets

Let $K$ be a compact set in $\rd$ with positive Hausdorff dimension. Using a Fractional Brownian Motion, we prove that in a prevalent set of continuous functions on $K$, the Hausdorff dimension of the graph is equal to $\dim_{\mathcal H}(K)+1$. This is the largest possible value. This result generalizes a previous work due to J.M. Fraser and J.T. Hyde which was exposed in the conference {\it Fractal and Related Fields~2}. The case of $α$-Hölderian functions is also discussed.
