Hardy decomposition of first order Lipschitz functions by Lamé-Navier solutions

The Clifford algebra language allows us to rewrite the Lamé-Navier system in terms of the Euclidean Dirac operator. In this paper, the main question we shall be concerned with is whether or not a higher order Lipschitz function on the boundary $Γ$ of a Jordan domain $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^m$ can be decomposed into a sum of the two boundary values of a solution of the Lamé-Navier system with jump across $Γ$. Our main tool are the Hardy projections related to a singular integral operator arising in the context of Clifford analysis, which turns out to be an involution operator on the first order Lipschitz classes.

On scaled hyperbolic numbers induced by scaled hyperbolic rings

In this paper, we generalize the well-known hyperbolic numbers to certain numeric structures scaled by the real numbers. Under our scaling of $\mathbb{R}$, the usual hyperbolic numbers are understood to be our 1-scaled hyperbolic numbers. If a scale $t$ is not positive in $\mathbb{R}$, then our $t$-scaled hyperbolic numbers have similar numerical structures with those of the complex numbers, however, if a scale is positive in $\mathbb{R}$, then their numerical properties are similar to those of the classical hyperbolic numbers. We here understand scaled-hyperbolic numbers as elements of the scaled-hypercomplex rings $\{\mathbb{H}_t\}_{t\in \mathbb{R}}$, introduced in [1]. This scaled-hyperbolic analysis is done by algebra, analysis, operator theory, operator-algebra theory and free probability on scaled-hypercomplex numbers

Discrete analytic functions, structured matrices and a new family of moment problems

Using Zeilberger generating function formula for the values of a discrete analytic function in a quadrant we make connections with the theory of structured reproducing kernel spaces, structured matrices and a generalized moment problem. An important role is played by a Krein space realization result of Dijksma, Langer and de Snoo for functions analytic in a neighborhood of the origin. A key observation is that, using a simple Moebius transform, one can reduce the study of discrete analytic functions in the upper right quadrant to problems of function theory in the open unit disk. As an example, we associate to each finite positive measure on $[0,2π]$ a discrete analytic function on the right-upper quarter plane with values on the lattice defining a positive definite function. Emphasis is put on the rational case, both when an underlying Carathéodory function is rational and when, in the positive case, the spectral function is rational. The rational case and the general case are linked via the existence of a unitary dilation, possibly in a Krein space

Discrete Wiener Algebra in the Bicomplex Setting, Spectral Factorization with Symmetry, and Superoscillations

In this paper we present parallel theories on constructing Wiener algebras in the bicomplex setting. With the appropriate symmetry condition, the bicomplex matrix valued case can be seen as a complex valued case and, in this matrix valued case, we make the necessary connection between classical bicomplex analysis and complex analysis with symmetry. We also write an application to superoscillations in this case.

Finitely additive functions in measure theory and applications

We consider, and make precise, a certain extension of the Radon-Nikodym derivative operator, to functions which are additive, but not necessarily sigma-additive, on a subset of a given sigma-algebra. We give applications to probability theory; in particular, to the study of $μ$-Brownian motion, to stochastic calculus via generalized Itô-integrals, and their adjoints (in the form of generalized stochastic derivatives), to systems of transition probability operators indexed by families of measures $μ$, and to adjoints of composition operators.

Representation theory and multilevel filters

We present a general setting where wavelet filters and multiresolution decompositions can be defined, beyond the classical $\mathbf L^2(\mathbb R,dx)$ setting. This is done in a framework of {\em iterated function system} (IFS) measures; these include all cases studied so far, and in particular the Julia set/measure cases. Every IFS has a fixed order, say $N$, and we show that the wavelet filters are indexed by the infinite dimensional group $G$ of functions from $X$ into the unitary group $U_N$. We call $G$ the loop group because of the special case of the unit circle.

Fock and Hardy spaces: Clifford-Appell case

In this paper, we study a specific system of Clifford-Appell polynomials and in particular their product. Moreover, we introduce a new family of quaternionic reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces in the framework of Fueter regular functions. The construction is based on a general idea which allows to obtain various function spaces, by specifying a suitable sequence of real numbers. We focus on the Fock and Hardy cases in this setting, and we study the action of the Fueter mapping and its range.

On the global operator and Fueter mapping theorem for slice polyanalytic functions

In this paper, we prove that slice polyanalytic functions on quaternions can be considered as solutions of a power of some special global operator with nonconstant coefficients as it happens in the case of slice hyperholomorphic functions. We investigate also an extension version of the Fueter mapping theorem in this polyanalytic setting. In particular, we show that under axially symmetric conditions it is always possible to construct Fueter regular and poly-Fueter regular functions through slice polyanalytic ones using what we call the poly-Fueter mappings. We study also some integral representations of these results on the quaternionic unit ball.

White Noise Space Analysis and Multiplicative Change of Measures

In this paper we display a family of Gaussian processes, with explicit formulas and transforms. This is presented with the use of duality tools in such a way that the corresponding path-space measures are mutually singular. We make use of a corresponding family of representations of the canonical commutation relations (CCR) in an infinite number of degrees of freedom. A key feature of our construction is explicit formulas for associated transforms; these are infinite-dimensional analogues of Fourier transforms. Our framework is that of Gaussian Hilbert spaces, reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces, and Fock spaces. The latter forms the setting for our CCR representations. We further show, with the use of representation theory, and infinite-dimensional analysis, that our pairwise inequivalent probability spaces (for the Gaussian processes) correspond in an explicit manner to pairwise disjoint CCR representations.

de Branges spaces on compact Riemann surfaces and a Beurling-Lax type theorem

Using the notion of commutative operator vessels, this work investigates de Branges-Rovnyak spaces whose elements are sections of a line bundle of multiplicative half-order differentials on a compact real Riemann surface. As a special case, we obtain a Beurling-Lax type theorem in the setting of the corresponding Hardy space on a finite bordered Riemann surface.

Generalized Fock space and moments

In this paper we develop a framework to extend the theory of generalized stochastic processes in the Hida white noise space to more general probability spaces which include the grey noise space. To obtain a Wiener-Itô expansion we recast it as a moment problem and calculate the moments explicitly. We further show the importance of a family of topological algebras called strong algebras in this context. Furthermore we show the applicability of our approach to the study of stochastic processes.

On Pseudo-Spectral Factorization over the Complex Numbers and Quaternions

This paper is a continuation of the research of our previous work and considers quaternionic generalized Carathéodory functions and the related family of generalized positive functions. It is addressed to a wide audience which includes researchers in complex and hypercomplex analysis, in the theory of linear systems, but also electric engineers. For this reason it includes some results on generalized Carathéodory functions and their factorization in the classic complex case which might be of independent interest. An important new result is a pseudo-spectral factorization and we also discuss some interpolation problems in the class of quaternionic generalized positive functions.

Adaptative decomposition: the case of the Drury-Arveson space

The maximum selection principle allows to give expansions, in an adaptive way, of functions in the Hardy space $\mathbf H_2$ of the disk in terms of Blaschke products. The expansion is specific to the given function. Blaschke factors and products have counterparts in the unit ball of $\mathbb C^N$, and this fact allows us to extend in the present paper the maximum selection principle to the case of functions in the Drury-Arveson space of functions analytic in the unit ball of $\mathbb C^N$. This will give rise to an algorithm which is a variation in this higher dimensional case of the greedy algorithm. We also introduce infinite Blaschke products in this setting and study their convergence.

On the equivalence of probability spaces

For a general class of Gaussian processes $W$, indexed by a sigma-algebra $\mathscr F$ of a general measure space $(M,\mathscr F, σ)$, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for the validity of a quadratic variation representation for such Gaussian processes, thus recovering $σ(A)$, for $A\in\mathscr F$, as a quadratic variation of $W$ over $A$. We further provide a harmonic analysis representation for this general class of processes. We apply these two results to: $(i)$ a computation of generalized Ito-integrals; and $(ii)$ a proof of an explicit, and measure-theoretic equivalence formula, realizing an equivalence between the two approaches to Gaussian processes, one where the choice of sample space is the traditional path-space, and the other where it is Schwartz' space of tempered distributions.

W-Markov measures, transfer operators, wavelets and multiresolutions

In a general setting we solve the following inverse problem: Given a positive operators $R$, acting on measurable functions on a fixed measure space $(X,\mathcal B_X)$, we construct an associated Markov chain. Specifically, starting with a choice of $R$ (the transfer operator), and a probability measure $μ_0$ on $(X, \mathcal B_X)$, we then build an associated Markov chain $T_0, T_1, T_2,\ldots$, with these random variables (r.v) realized in a suitable probability space $(Ω,\mathcal F, \mathbb P)$, and each r.v. taking values in $X$, and with $T_0$ having the probability $μ_0$ as law. We further show how spectral data for $R$, e.g., the presence of $R$-harmonic functions, propagate to the Markov chain. Conversely, in a general setting, we show that every Markov chain is determined by its transfer operator. In a range of examples we put this correspondence into practical terms: $(i)$ iterated function systems (IFS), $(ii)$ wavelet multiresolution constructions, and $(iii)$ IFSs with random control.

A new realization of rational functions, with applications to linear combination interpolation

We introduce the following linear combination interpolation problem (LCI): Given $N$ distinct numbers $w_1,\ldots w_N$ and $N+1$ complex numbers $a_1,\ldots, a_N$ and $c$, find all functions $f(z)$ analytic in a simply connected set (depending on $f$) containing the points $w_1,\ldots,w_N$ such that \[ \sum_{u=1}^Na_uf(w_u)=c. \] To this end we prove a representation theorem for such functions $f$ in terms of an associated polynomial $p(z)$. We first introduce the following two operations, $(i)$ substitution of $p$, and $(ii)$ multiplication by monomials $z^j, 0\le j < N$. Then let $M$ be the module generated by these two operations, acting on functions analytic near $0$. We prove that every function $f$, analytic in a neighborhood of the roots of $p$, is in $M$. In fact, this representation of $f$ is unique. To solve the above interpolation problem, we employ an adapted systems theoretic realization, as well as an associated representation of the Cuntz relations (from multi-variable operator theory.) We study these operations in reproducing kernel Hilbert space): We give necessary and sufficient condition for existence of realizations of these representation of the Cuntz relations by operators in certain reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces, and offer infinite product factorizations of the corresponding kernels.

Beurling-Lax type theorems in the complex and quaternionic setting: the half-space case

We give a generalization of the Beurling-Lax theorem both in the complex and quaternionic settings. We consider in the first case functions meromorphic in the right complex half-plane, and functions slice hypermeromorphic in the right quaternionic half-space in the second case. In both settings we also discuss a unified framework, which includes both the disk and the half-plane for the complex case and the open unit ball and the half-space in the quaternionic setting.

Characterizations of rectangular (para)-unitary rational Functions

We here present three characterizations of not necessarily causal, rational functions which are (co)-isometric on the unit circle: (i) Through the realization matrix of Schur stable systems. (ii) The Blaschke-Potapov product, which is then employed to introduce an easy-to-use description of all these functions with dimensions and McMillan degree as parameters. (iii) Through the (not necessarily reducible) Matrix Fraction Description (MFD). In cases (ii) and (iii) the poles of the rational functions involved may be anywhere in the complex plane, but the unit circle (including both zero and infinity). A special attention is devoted to exploring the gap between the square and rectangular cases.

Functions of the infinitesimal generator of a strongly continuous quaternionic group

The analogue of the Riesz-Dunford functional calculus has been introduced and studied recently as well as the theory of semigroups and groups of linear quaternionic operators. In this paper we suppose that $T$ is the infinitesimal generator of a strongly continuous group of operators $(\mathcal{Z}_T(t))_{t \in \mathbb{R}}$ and we show how we can define bounded operators $f(T)$, where $f$ belongs to a class of functions which is larger than the class of slice regular functions, using the quaternionic Laplace-Stieltjes transform. This class will include functions that are slice regular on the $S$-spectrum of $T$ but not necessarily at infinity. Moreover, we establish the relation of $f(T)$ with the quaternionic functional calculus and we study the problem of finding the inverse of $f(T)$.

Kolmogorov's axioms for probabilities with values in hyperbolic numbers

We introduce the notion of a probabilistic measure which takes values in hyperbolic numbers and which satisfies the system of axioms generalizing directly Kolmogorov's system of axioms. We show that this new measure verifies the usual properties of a probability; in particular, we treat the conditional hyperbolic probability and we prove the hyperbolic analogues of the multiplication theorem, of the law of total probability and of Bayes' theorem. Our probability may take values which are zero--divisors and we discuss carefully this peculiarity.

Realizations of infinite products, Ruelle operators and wavelet filters

Using the notions and tools from realization in the sense of systems theory, we establish an explicit and new realization formula for families of infinite products of rational matrix-functions of a single complex variable. Our realizations of these resulting infinite products have the following four features: 1) Our infinite product realizations are functions defined in an infinite-dimensional complex domain. 2) Starting with a realization of a single rational matrix-function $M$, we show that a resulting infinite product realization obtained from $M$ takes the form of an (infinite-dimensional) Toeplitz operator with a symbol that is a reflection of the initial realization for $M$. 3) Starting with a subclass of rational matrix functions, including scalar-valued corresponding to low-pass wavelet filters, we obtain the corresponding infinite products that realize the Fourier transforms of generators of $\mathbf L_2(\mathbb R)$ wavelets. 4) We use both the realizations for $M$ and the corresponding infinite product to produce a matrix representation of the Ruelle-transfer operators used in wavelet theory. By matrix representation we refer to the slanted (and sparse) matrix which realizes the Ruelle-transfer operator under consideration.

Characterizations of families of rectangular finite impulse response, para-unitary systems

We here study Finite Impulse Response (FIR) rectangular, not necessarily causal, systems which are (para)-unitary on the unit circle (=the class $\mathcal{U}$). First, we offer three characterizations of these systems. Then, introduce a %easy-to-use description of all FIRs in $\mathcal{U}$, as copies of a real polytope, parametrized by the dimensions and the McMillan degree of the FIRs. Finally, we present six simple ways (along with their combinations) to construct, from any FIR, a large family of FIRs, of various dimensions and McMillan degrees, so that whenever the original system is in $\mathcal{U}$, so is the whole family. A key role is played by Hankel matrices.

Generalized quaternionic Schur functions in the ball and half-space and Krein-Langer factorization

In this paper we prove a new version of Krein-Langer factorization theorem in the slice hyperholomorphic setting which is more general than the one proved in [D. Alpay, F. Colombo, I. Sabadini, Krein-Langer factorization and related topics in the slice hyperholomorphic setting, J. Geom. Anal., 24 (2014), 843--872]. We treat both the case of functions with $κ$ negative squares defined on subsets of the quaternionic unit ball or on subsets of the half space of quaternions with positive real part. A crucial tool in the proof of our results is the Schauder-Tychonoff theorem and an invariant subspace theorem for contractions in a Pontryagin space.

The Fock space in the slice hyperholomorphic setting

In this paper we introduce and study some basic properties of the Fock space (also known as Segal-Bargmann space) in the slice hyperholomorphic setting. We discuss both the case of slice regular functions over quaternions and also the case of slice monogenic functions with values in a Clifford algebra. In the specific setting of quaternions, we also introduce the full Fock space. This paper can be seen as the beginning of the study of infinite dimensional analysis in the quaternionic setting.

The spectral theorem for quaternionic unbounded normal operators based on the S-spectrum

In this paper we prove the spectral theorem for quaternionic unbounded normal operators using the notion of $S$-spectrum. The proof technique consists of first establishing a spectral theorem for quaternionic bounded normal operators and then using a transformation which maps a quaternionic unbounded normal operator to a quaternionic bounded normal operator. With this paper we complete the foundation of spectral analysis of quaternionic operators. The $S$-spectrum has been introduced to define the quaternionic functional calculus but it turns out to be the correct object also for the spectral theorem for quaternionic normal operators. The fact that the correct notion of spectrum for quaternionic operators was not previously known has been one of the main obstructions to fully understanding the spectral theorem in this setting. A prime motivation for studying the spectral theorem for quaternionic unbounded normal operators is given by the subclass of unbounded anti-self adjoint quaternionic operators which play a crucial role in the quaternionic quantum mechanics.

A new resolvent equation for the S-functional calculus

The S-functional calculus is a functional calculus for $(n+1)$-tuples of non necessarily commuting operators that can be considered a higher dimensional version of the classical Riesz-Dunford functional calculus for a single operator. In this last calculus, the resolvent equation plays an important role in the proof of several results. Associated with the S-functional calculus there are two resolvent operators: the left $S_L^{-1}(s,T)$ and the right one $S_R^{-1}(s,T)$, where $s=(s_0,s_1,\ldots,s_n)\in \mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ and $T=(T_0,T_1,\ldots,T_n)$ is an $(n+1)$-tuple of non commuting operators. These two S-resolvent operators satisfy the S-resolvent equations $S_L^{-1}(s,T)s-TS_L^{-1}(s,T)=\mathcal{I}$, and $sS_R^{-1}(s,T)-S_R^{-1}(s,T)T=\mathcal{I}$, respectively, where $\mathcal{I}$ denotes the identity operator. These equations allows to prove some properties of the S-functional calculus. In this paper we prove a new resolvent equation for the S-functional calculus which is the analogue of the classical resolvent equation. It is interesting to note that the equation involves both the left and the right S-resolvent operators simultaneously.

Easy-to-compute parameterizations of all wavelet filters: input-output and state-space

We here use notions from the theory linear shift-invariant dynamical systems to provide an easy-to-compute characterization of all rational wavelet filters. For a given N bigger or equql to 2, the number of inputs, the construction is based on a factorization to an elementary wavelet filter along with of m elementary unitary matrices. We shall call this m the index of the filter. It turns out that the resulting wavelet filter is of McMillan degree $N((N-1)/2+m). Rational wavelet filters bounded at infinity, admit state space realization. The above input-output parameterization is exploited for a step-by-step construction (where in each the index m is increased by one) of state space model of wavelet filters.

Inner product spaces and Krein spaces in the quaternionic setting

In this paper we provide a study of quaternionic inner product spaces. This includes ortho-complemented subspaces, fundamental decompositions as well as a number of results of topological nature. Our main purpose is to show that a uniformly positive subspace in a quaternionic Krein space is ortho-complemented, and this leads to our choice of the results presented in the paper.

Minimal state space realization, static output feedback and matrix completion of families of systems

We here characterize the minimality of realization of arbitrary linear time-invariant dynamical systems through (i) intersection of the spectra of the realization matrix and of the corresponding state submatrix and (ii) moving the poles by applying static output feedback. In passing, we introduce, for a given square matrix A, a parameterization of all matrices B for which the pairs (A, B) are controllable. In particular, the minimal rank of such B turns to be equal to the smallest geometric multiplicity among the eigenvalues of A. Finally, we show that the use of a (not necessarily square) realization matrix L to examine minimality of realization, is equivalent to the study of a smaller dimensions, square realization matrix L_sq, which in turn is linked to realization matrices obtained as polynomials in L_sq. Namely a whole family of systems.

Non-commutative stochastic distributions and applications to linear systems theory

In this paper, we introduce a non-commutative space of stochastic distributions, which contains the non-commutative white noise space, and forms, together with a natural multiplication, a topological algebra. We introduce algebras which are inductive limits of Banach spaces and carry inequalities which are counterparts of the inequality for the norm in a Banach algebra. On free stochastic processes and their derivatives

We study a family of free stochastic processes whose covariance kernels $K$ may be derived as a transform of a tempered measure $σ$. These processes arise, for example, in consideration non-commutative analysis involving free probability. Hence our use of semi-circle distributions, as opposed to Gaussians. In this setting we find an orthonormal bases in the corresponding non-commutative $L^2$ of sample-space. We define a stochastic integral for our family of free processes.

Self-mappings of the quaternionic unit ball: multiplier properties, Schwarz-Pick inequality, and Nevanlinna--Pick interpolation problem

We study several aspects concerning slice regular functions mapping the quaternionic open unit ball into itself. We characterize these functions in terms of their Taylor coefficients at the origin and identify them as contractive multipliers of the Hardy space. In addition, we formulate and solve the Nevanlinna-Pick interpolation problem in the class of such functions presenting necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence and for the uniqueness of a solution. Finally, we describe all solutions to the problem in the indeterminate case.

Topological convolution algebras

In this paper we introduce a new family of topological convolution algebras of the form $\bigcup_{p\in\mathbb N} L_2(S,μ_p)$, where $S$ is a Borel semi-group in a locally compact group $G$, which carries an inequality of the type $\|f*g\|_p\le A_{p,q}\|f\|_q\|g\|_p$ for $p > q+d$ where $d$ pre-assigned, and $A_{p,q}$ is a constant. We give a sufficient condition on the measures $μ_p$ for such an inequality to hold. We study the functional calculus and the spectrum of the elements of these algebras, and present two examples, one in the setting of non commutative stochastic distributions, and the other related to Dirichlet series.

Convex Cones of Generalized Positive Rational Functions and Nevanlinna-Pick Interpolation

Scalar rational functions with a non-negative real part on the right half plane, called positive, are classical in the study of electrical networks, dissipative systems, Nevanlinna-Pick interpolation and other areas. We here study generalized positive functions, i.e with a non-negative real part on the imaginary axis. These functions form a Convex Invertible Cone, cic in short, and we explore two partitionings of this set: (i) into a pair of even and odd subcics and (ii) to (infinitely many non-invertible) convex cones of functions with prescribed poles and zeroes in the right half plane. It is then shown that a positive function can always be written as a sum of even and odd part, only over the larger set of generalized positive. It is well known that over positive functions Nevanlinna-Pick interpolation is not always feasible. Over generalized positive, there is no easy way to carry out this interpolation. The second partitioning is subsequently exploited to introduce a simple procedure for Nevanlinna-Pick interpolation. Finally we show that only some of these properties are carried over to generalized bounded functions, mapping the imaginary axis to the unit disk.

Interpolation by polynomials with symmetries on the imaginary axis

We here specialize the standard matrix-valued polynomial interpolation to the case where on the imaginary axis the interpolating polynomials admit various symmetries: Positive semidefinite, Skew-Hermitian, $J$-Hermitian, Hamiltonian and others. The procedure is comprized of three stages, illustrated through the case where on $i\R$ the interpolating polynomials are to be positive semidefinite. We first, on the expense of doubling the degree, obtain a minimal degree interpolating polynomial $P(s)$ which on $i\R$ is Hermitian. Then we find all polynomials $Ψ(s)$, vanishing at the interpolation points which are positive semidefinite on $i\R$. Finally, using the fact that the set of positive semidefinite matrices is a convex subcone of Hermitian matrices, one can compute the minimal scalar $\hatβ\geq 0$ so that $P(s)+βΨ(s)$ satisfies all interpolation constraints for all $β\geq\hatβ$. This approach is then adapted to cases when the family of interpolating polynomials is not convex. Whenever convex, we parameterize all minimal degree interpolating polynomials.

Krein-Langer factorization and related topics in the slice hyperholomorphic setting

We study various aspects of Schur analysis in the slice hyperholomorphic setting. We present two sets of results: first, we give new results on the functional calculus for slice hyperholomorphic functions. In particular, we introduce and study some properties of the Riesz projectors. Then we prove a Beurling-Lax type theorem, the so-called structure theorem. A crucial fact which allows to prove our results, is the fact that the right spectrum of a quaternionic linear operator and the S-spectrum coincide. Finally, we study the Krein-Langer factorization for slice hyperholomorphic generalized Schur functions. Both the Beurling-Lax type theorem and the Krein-Langer factorization are far reaching results which have not been proved in the quaternionic setting using notions of hyperholomorphy other than slice hyperholomorphy

New Topological C-Algebras with Applications in Linear Systems Theory

Motivated by the Schwartz space of tempered distributions $\mathscr S^\prime$ and the Kondratiev space of stochastic distributions $\mathcal S_{-1}$ we define a wide family of nuclear spaces which are increasing unions of (duals of) Hilbert spaces $\mathscr H_p^\prime,p\in\mathbb N$, with decreasing norms $|\cdot|_{p}$. The elements of these spaces are functions on a free commutative monoid. We characterize those rings in this family which satisfy an inequality of the form $|f * g|_{p} \leq A(p-q) |f|_{q}|g|_{p}$ for all $p\ge q+d$, where * denotes the convolution in the monoid, $A(p-q)$ is a strictly positive number and $d$ is a fixed natural number (in this case we obtain commutative topological $\mathbb C$-algebras). Such an inequality holds in $\mathcal S_{-1}$, but not in $\mathscr S^\prime$. We give an example of such a ring which contains $\mathscr S^\prime$. We characterize invertible elements in these rings and present applications to linear system theory

On discrete analytic functions: Products, Rational Functions, and some Associated Reproducing Kernel Hilbert Spaces

We introduce a family of discrete analytic functions, called expandable discrete analytic functions, which includes discrete analytic polynomials, and define two products in this family. The first one is defined in a way similar to the Cauchy-Kovalevskaya product of hyperholomorphic functions, and allows us to define rational discrete analytic functions. To define the second product we need a new space of entire functions which is contractively included in the Fock space. We study in this space some counterparts of Schur analysis.

Pontryagin de Branges Rovnyak spaces of slice hyperholomorphic functions

We study reproducing kernel Hilbert and Pontryagin spaces of slice hyperholomorphic functions which are analogs of the Hilbert spaces of analytic functions introduced by de Branges and Rovnyak. In the first part of the paper we focus on the case of Hilbert spaces, and introduce in particular a version of the Hardy space. Then we define Blaschke factors and Blaschke products and we consider an interpolation problem. In the second part of the paper we turn to the case of Pontryagin spaces. We first prove some results from the theory of Pontryagin spaces in the quaternionic setting and, in particular, a theorem of Shmulyan on densely defined contractive linear relations. We then study realizations of generalized Schur functions and of generalized Carath'eodory functions.

Spectral theory for Gaussian processes: Reproducing kernels, random functions, boundaries, and $\mathbf L^2$-wavelet generators with fractional scales

A recurrent theme in functional analysis is the interplay between the theory of positive definite functions, and their reproducing kernels, on the one hand, and Gaussian stochastic processes, on the other. This central theme is motivated by a host of applications, e.g., in mathematical physics, and in stochastic differential equations, and their use in financial models. In this paper, we show that, for three classes of cases in the correspondence, it is possible to obtain explicit formulas which are amenable to computations of the respective Gaussian stochastic processes. For achieving this, we first develop two functional analytic tools. They are: $(i)$ an identification of a universal sample space $Ω$ where we may realize the particular Gaussian processes in the correspondence; and (ii) a procedure for discretizing computations in $Ω$. The three classes of processes we study are as follows: Processes associated with: (a) arbitrarily given sigma finite regular measures on a fixed Borel measure space; (b) with Hilbert spaces of sigma-functions; and (c) with systems of self-similar measures arising in the theory of iterated function systems. Even our results in (a) go beyond what has been obtained previously, in that earlier studies have focused on more narrow classes of measures, typically Borel measures on $\mathbb R^n$. In our last theorem (section 10), starting with a non-degenerate positive definite function $K$ on some fixed set $T$, we show that there is a choice of a universal sample space $Ω$, which can be realized as a "boundary" of $(T, K)$. Its boundary-theoretic properties are analyzed, and we point out their relevance to the study of electrical networks on countable infinite graphs.

State space realization of even generalized positive and odd rational function. Applications to static output feedback

We here specialize the well known Positive Real Lemma (also known as the Kalman-Yakubovich-Popov Lemma) to complex matrix-valued rational functions, (i) generalized positive even and (ii) odd. On the way we characterize the (non) minimality of realization of arbitrary systems through (i) the corresponding state matrix and (ii) moving the poles by applying static output feedback. We then explore the application of static output feedback to both generalized positive even and to odd functions.

We then use this transform to define the stochastic integral and prove an associated Ito formula.

While there are earlier studies of these filters as matrix valued functions in wavelets, in signal processing, and in systems, we here expand the framework. Motivated by applications, and by bringing to bear tools from reproducing kernel theory, we point out the role of non-positive definite Hermitian inner products (negative squares), for example Krein spaces, in the study of stability questions. We focus on the non-rational case, and establish new connections with the theory of generalized Schur functions and their associated reproducing kernel Pontryagin spaces, and the Cuntz relations.

Representation formulas for Hardy space functions through the Cuntz relations and new interpolation problems

We introduce connections between the Cuntz relations and the Hardy space H_2 of the open unit disk . We then use them to solve a new kind of multipoint interpolation problem in H_2, where for instance, only a linear combination of the values of a function at given points is preassigned, rather than the values at the points themselves. We also consider the case of de Branges-Rovnyak spaces.

Schur functions and their realizations in the slice hyperholomorphic setting

we start the study of Schur analysis in the quaternionic setting using the theory of slice hyperholomorphic functions. The novelty of our approach is that slice hyperholomorphic functions allows to write realizations in terms of a suitable resolvent, the so called S-resolvent operator and to extend several results that hold in the complex case to the quaternionic case. We discuss reproducing kernels, positive definite functions in this setting and we show how they can be obtained in our setting using the extension operator and the slice regular product. We define Schur multipliers, and find their co-isometric realization in terms of the associated de Branges-Rovnyak space.

Stochastic processes induced by singular operators

In this paper we study a general family of multivariable Gaussian stochastic processes. Each process is prescribed by a fixed Borel measure $σ$ on $\mathbb R^n$. The case when $σ$ is assumed absolutely continuous with respect to Lebesgue measure was studied earlier in the literature, when $n=1$. Our focus here is on showing how different equivalence classes (defined from relative absolute continuity for pairs of measures) translate into concrete spectral decompositions of the corresponding stochastic processes under study. The measures $σ$ we consider are typically purely singular. Our proofs rely on the theory of (singular) unbounded operators in Hilbert space, and their spectral theory.

The positive real lemma and construction of all realizations of generalized positive rational functions

We here extend the well known Positive Real Lemma (also known as the Kalman-Yakubovich-Popov Lemma) to complex matrix-valued generalized positive rational function, when non-minimal realizations are considered. We then exploit this result to provide an easy construction procedure of all (not necessarily minimal) state space realizations of generalized positive functions. As a by-product, we partition all state space realizations into subsets: Each is identified with a set of matrices satisfying the same Lyapunov inclusion and thus form a convex invertible cone, cic in short. Moreover, this approach enables us to characterize systems which may be brought to be generalized positive through static output feedback. The formulation through Lyapunov inclusions suggests the introduction of an equivalence class of rational functions of various dimensions associated with the same system matrix.

A class of Gaussian processes with fractional spectral measures

We study a family of stationary increment Gaussian processes, indexed by time. These processes are determined by certain measures sigma (generalized spectral measures), and our focus here is on the case when the measure sigma is a singular measure. We characterize the processes arising from when sigma is in one of the classes of affine self-similar measures. Our analysis makes use of Kondratiev-white noise spaces. With the use of a priori estimates and the Wick calculus, we extend and sharpen earlier computations of Ito stochastic integration developed for the special case of stationary increment processes having absolutely continuous measures. We further obtain an associated Ito formula.

Generalized Q-functions and Dirichlet-to-Neumann maps for elliptic differential operators

The classical concept of $Q$-functions associated to symmetric and selfadjoint operators due to M.G. Krein and H. Langer is extended in such a way that the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map in the theory of elliptic differential equations can be interpreted as a generalized $Q$-function. For couplings of uniformly elliptic second order differential expression on bounded and unbounded domains explicit Krein type formulas for the difference of the resolvents and trace formulas in an $H^2$-framework are obtained.
