A Borel-Pompeiu formula in a $(q,q')$-model of quaternionic analysis

The study of $ψ-$hyperholomorphic functions defined on domains in $\mathbb R^4$ with values in $\mathbb H$, namely null-solutions of the $ψ-$Fueter operator, is a topic which captured great interest in quaternionic analysis. This class of functions is more general than that of Fueter regular functions. In the setting of $(q,q')-$calculus, also known as post quantum calculus, we introduce a deformation of the $ψ-$Fueter operator written in terms of suitable difference operators, which reduces to a deformed $q$ calculus when $q'=1$. We also prove the Stokes and Borel-Pompeiu formulas in this context. This work is the first investigation of results in quaternionic analysis in the setting of the $(q,q')-$calculus theory.

Axially harmonic functions and the harmonic functional calculus on the S-spectrum

The spectral theory on the S-spectrum was introduced to give an appropriate mathematical setting to quaternionic quantum mechanics, but it was soon realized that there were different applications of this theory, for example, to fractional heat diffusion and to the spectral theory for the Dirac operator on manifolds. In this seminal paper we introduce the harmonic functional calculus based on the S-spectrum and on an integral representation of axially harmonic functions. This calculus can be seen as a bridge between harmonic analysis and the spectral theory. The resolvent operator of the harmonic functional calculus is the commutative version of the pseudo S-resolvent operator. This new calculus also appears, in a natural way, in the product rule for the F-functional calculus.

Discrete analytic functions, structured matrices and a new family of moment problems

Using Zeilberger generating function formula for the values of a discrete analytic function in a quadrant we make connections with the theory of structured reproducing kernel spaces, structured matrices and a generalized moment problem. An important role is played by a Krein space realization result of Dijksma, Langer and de Snoo for functions analytic in a neighborhood of the origin. A key observation is that, using a simple Moebius transform, one can reduce the study of discrete analytic functions in the upper right quadrant to problems of function theory in the open unit disk. As an example, we associate to each finite positive measure on $[0,2π]$ a discrete analytic function on the right-upper quarter plane with values on the lattice defining a positive definite function. Emphasis is put on the rational case, both when an underlying Carathéodory function is rational and when, in the positive case, the spectral function is rational. The rational case and the general case are linked via the existence of a unitary dilation, possibly in a Krein space

Extension theorem and representation formula in non-axially symmetric domains for slice regular functions

Slice analysis is a generalization of the theory of holomorphic functions of one complex variable to quaternions. Among the new phenomena which appear in this context, there is the fact that the convergence domain of $f(q)=Σ_{n\in\mathbb{N}}(q-p)^{*n} a_n$, given by a $σ$-ball $Σ(p,r)$, is not open in $\mathbb{H}$ unless $p\in\mathbb{R}$. This motivates us to investigate, in this article, what is a natural topology for slice regular functions. It turns out that the natural topology is the so-called slice topology, which is different from the Euclidean topology and nicely adapts to the slice structure of quaternions. We extend the function theory of slice regular functions to any domains in the slice topology. Many fundamental results in the classical slice analysis for axially symmetric domains fail in our general setting. We can even construct a counterexample to show that a slice regular function in a domain cannot be extended to an axially symmetric domain. In order to provide positive results we need to consider so-called path-slice functions instead of slice functions. Along this line, we can establish an extension theorem and a representation formula in a slice-domain.

Fock and Hardy spaces: Clifford-Appell case

In this paper, we study a specific system of Clifford-Appell polynomials and in particular their product. Moreover, we introduce a new family of quaternionic reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces in the framework of Fueter regular functions. The construction is based on a general idea which allows to obtain various function spaces, by specifying a suitable sequence of real numbers. We focus on the Fock and Hardy cases in this setting, and we study the action of the Fueter mapping and its range.

On the global operator and Fueter mapping theorem for slice polyanalytic functions

In this paper, we prove that slice polyanalytic functions on quaternions can be considered as solutions of a power of some special global operator with nonconstant coefficients as it happens in the case of slice hyperholomorphic functions. We investigate also an extension version of the Fueter mapping theorem in this polyanalytic setting. In particular, we show that under axially symmetric conditions it is always possible to construct Fueter regular and poly-Fueter regular functions through slice polyanalytic ones using what we call the poly-Fueter mappings. We study also some integral representations of these results on the quaternionic unit ball.

A representation formula for slice regular functions over slice-cones in several variables

The aim of this paper is to extend the so called slice analysis to a general case in which the codomain is a real vector space of even dimension, i.e. is of the form $\mathbb{R}^{2n}$. We define a cone $\mathcal{W}_\mathcal{C}^d$ in $[End(\mathbb{R}^{2n})]^d$ and we extend the slice-topology $τ_s$ to this cone. Slice regular functions can be defined on open sets in $\left(τ_s,\mathcal{W}_\mathcal{C}^d\right)$ and a number of results can be proved in this framework, among which a representation formula. This theory can be applied to some real algebras, called left slice complex structure algebras. These algebras include quaternions, octonions, Clifford algebras and real alternative $*$-algebras but also left-alternative algebras and sedenions, thus providing brand new settings in slice analysis.

On Pseudo-Spectral Factorization over the Complex Numbers and Quaternions

This paper is a continuation of the research of our previous work and considers quaternionic generalized Carathéodory functions and the related family of generalized positive functions. It is addressed to a wide audience which includes researchers in complex and hypercomplex analysis, in the theory of linear systems, but also electric engineers. For this reason it includes some results on generalized Carathéodory functions and their factorization in the classic complex case which might be of independent interest. An important new result is a pseudo-spectral factorization and we also discuss some interpolation problems in the class of quaternionic generalized positive functions.

Adaptative decomposition: the case of the Drury-Arveson space

The maximum selection principle allows to give expansions, in an adaptive way, of functions in the Hardy space $\mathbf H_2$ of the disk in terms of Blaschke products. The expansion is specific to the given function. Blaschke factors and products have counterparts in the unit ball of $\mathbb C^N$, and this fact allows us to extend in the present paper the maximum selection principle to the case of functions in the Drury-Arveson space of functions analytic in the unit ball of $\mathbb C^N$. This will give rise to an algorithm which is a variation in this higher dimensional case of the greedy algorithm. We also introduce infinite Blaschke products in this setting and study their convergence.

Entire slice regular functions

Entire functions in one complex variable are extremely relevant in several areas ranging from the study of convolution equations to special functions. An analog of entire functions in the quaternionic setting can be defined in the slice regular setting, a framework which includes polynomials and power series of the quaternionic variable. In the first chapters of this work we introduce and discuss the algebra and the analysis of slice regular functions. In addition to offering a self-contained introduction to the theory of slice-regular functions, these chapters also contain a few new results (for example we complete the discussion on lower bounds for slice regular functions initiated with the Ehrenpreis-Malgrange, by adding a brand new Cartan-type theorem). The core of the work is Chapter 5, where we study the growth of entire slice regular functions, and we show how such growth is related to the coefficients of the power series expansions that these functions have. It should be noted that the proofs we offer are not simple reconstructions of the holomorphic case. Indeed, the non-commutative setting creates a series of non-trivial problems. Also the counting of the zeros is not trivial because of the presence of spherical zeros which have infinite cardinality. We prove the analog of Jensen and Carathéodory theorems in this setting.

Fueter's theorem for monogenic functions in biaxial symmetric domains

In this paper we generalize the result on Fueter's theorem from [10] by Eelbode et al. to the case of monogenic functions in biaxially symmetric domains. To obtain this result, Eelbode et al. used representation theory methods but their result also follows from a direct calculus we established in our paper [21]. In this paper we first generalize [21] to the biaxial case and derive the main result from that.

Beurling-Lax type theorems in the complex and quaternionic setting: the half-space case

We give a generalization of the Beurling-Lax theorem both in the complex and quaternionic settings. We consider in the first case functions meromorphic in the right complex half-plane, and functions slice hypermeromorphic in the right quaternionic half-space in the second case. In both settings we also discuss a unified framework, which includes both the disk and the half-plane for the complex case and the open unit ball and the half-space in the quaternionic setting.

Further properties of the Bergman spaces of slice regular functions

In this paper we continue the study of Bergman theory for the class of slice regular functions. In the slice regular setting there are two possibilities to introduce the Bergman spaces, that are called of the first and of the second kind. In this paper we mainly consider the Bergman theory of the second kind, by providing an explicit description of the Bergman kernel in the case of the unit ball and of the half space. In the case of the unit ball, we study the Bergman-Sce transform. We also show that the two Bergman theories can be compared only if suitable weights are taken into account. Finally, we use the Schwarz reflection principle to relate the Bergman kernel with its values on a complex half plane.

Generalized quaternionic Schur functions in the ball and half-space and Krein-Langer factorization

In this paper we prove a new version of Krein-Langer factorization theorem in the slice hyperholomorphic setting which is more general than the one proved in [D. Alpay, F. Colombo, I. Sabadini, Krein-Langer factorization and related topics in the slice hyperholomorphic setting, J. Geom. Anal., 24 (2014), 843--872]. We treat both the case of functions with $κ$ negative squares defined on subsets of the quaternionic unit ball or on subsets of the half space of quaternions with positive real part. A crucial tool in the proof of our results is the Schauder-Tychonoff theorem and an invariant subspace theorem for contractions in a Pontryagin space.

On Some Geometric Properties of Slice Regular Functions of a Quaternion Variable

The goal of this paper is to introduce and study some geometric properties of slice regular functions of quaternion variable like univalence, subordination, starlikeness, convexity and spirallikeness in the unit ball. We prove a number of results, among which an Area-type Theorem, Rogosinski inequality, and a Bieberbach-de Branges Theorem for a subclass of slice regular functions. We also discuss some geometric and algebraic interpretations of our results in terms of maps from $\mathbb R^4$ to itself. As a tool for subordination we define a suitable notion of composition of slice regular functions which is of independent interest.

The Fock space in the slice hyperholomorphic setting

In this paper we introduce and study some basic properties of the Fock space (also known as Segal-Bargmann space) in the slice hyperholomorphic setting. We discuss both the case of slice regular functions over quaternions and also the case of slice monogenic functions with values in a Clifford algebra. In the specific setting of quaternions, we also introduce the full Fock space. This paper can be seen as the beginning of the study of infinite dimensional analysis in the quaternionic setting.

The Radon transform between monogenic and generalized slice monogenic functions

In [J. Bures, R. Lavicka, V. Soucek, Elements of quaternionic analysis and Radon transform, Textos de Matematica 42, Departamento de Matematica, Universidade de Coimbra, 2009], the authors describe a link between holomorphic functions depending on a parameter and monogenic functions defined on R^(n+1) using the Radon and dual Radon transforms. The main aim of this paper is to further develop this approach. In fact, the Radon transform for functions with values in the Clifford algebra R_n is mapping solutions of the generalized Cauchy-Riemann equation, i.e., monogenic functions, to a parametric family of holomorphic functions with values in R_n and, analogously, the dual Radon transform is mapping parametric families of holomorphic functions as above to monogenic functions. The parametric families of holomorphic functions considered in the paper can be viewed as a generalization of the so-called slice monogenic functions. An important part of the problem solved in the paper is to find a suitable definition of the function spaces serving as the domain and the target of both integral transforms.

A new integral formula for the inverse Fueter mapping theorem

In this paper we provide an alternative method to construct the Fueter primitive of an axial monogenic function of degree $k$, which is complementary to the one used in [F. Colombo, I. Sabadini and F. Sommen, The inverse Fueter mapping theorem in integral form using spherical monogenics, Israel Journal of Mathematics, 2012]. As a byproduct, we obtain an explicit description of the kernel of the Fueter mapping. We also apply our method to obtain the Fueter primitives of the Cauchy kernels with singularities on the unit sphere.

A new resolvent equation for the S-functional calculus

The S-functional calculus is a functional calculus for $(n+1)$-tuples of non necessarily commuting operators that can be considered a higher dimensional version of the classical Riesz-Dunford functional calculus for a single operator. In this last calculus, the resolvent equation plays an important role in the proof of several results. Associated with the S-functional calculus there are two resolvent operators: the left $S_L^{-1}(s,T)$ and the right one $S_R^{-1}(s,T)$, where $s=(s_0,s_1,\ldots,s_n)\in \mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ and $T=(T_0,T_1,\ldots,T_n)$ is an $(n+1)$-tuple of non commuting operators. These two S-resolvent operators satisfy the S-resolvent equations $S_L^{-1}(s,T)s-TS_L^{-1}(s,T)=\mathcal{I}$, and $sS_R^{-1}(s,T)-S_R^{-1}(s,T)T=\mathcal{I}$, respectively, where $\mathcal{I}$ denotes the identity operator. These equations allows to prove some properties of the S-functional calculus. In this paper we prove a new resolvent equation for the S-functional calculus which is the analogue of the classical resolvent equation. It is interesting to note that the equation involves both the left and the right S-resolvent operators simultaneously.

Inner product spaces and Krein spaces in the quaternionic setting

In this paper we provide a study of quaternionic inner product spaces. This includes ortho-complemented subspaces, fundamental decompositions as well as a number of results of topological nature. Our main purpose is to show that a uniformly positive subspace in a quaternionic Krein space is ortho-complemented, and this leads to our choice of the results presented in the paper.

Self-mappings of the quaternionic unit ball: multiplier properties, Schwarz-Pick inequality, and Nevanlinna--Pick interpolation problem

We study several aspects concerning slice regular functions mapping the quaternionic open unit ball into itself. We characterize these functions in terms of their Taylor coefficients at the origin and identify them as contractive multipliers of the Hardy space. In addition, we formulate and solve the Nevanlinna-Pick interpolation problem in the class of such functions presenting necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence and for the uniqueness of a solution. Finally, we describe all solutions to the problem in the indeterminate case.

Krein-Langer factorization and related topics in the slice hyperholomorphic setting

We study various aspects of Schur analysis in the slice hyperholomorphic setting. We present two sets of results: first, we give new results on the functional calculus for slice hyperholomorphic functions. In particular, we introduce and study some properties of the Riesz projectors. Then we prove a Beurling-Lax type theorem, the so-called structure theorem. A crucial fact which allows to prove our results, is the fact that the right spectrum of a quaternionic linear operator and the S-spectrum coincide. Finally, we study the Krein-Langer factorization for slice hyperholomorphic generalized Schur functions. Both the Beurling-Lax type theorem and the Krein-Langer factorization are far reaching results which have not been proved in the quaternionic setting using notions of hyperholomorphy other than slice hyperholomorphy

Pontryagin de Branges Rovnyak spaces of slice hyperholomorphic functions

We study reproducing kernel Hilbert and Pontryagin spaces of slice hyperholomorphic functions which are analogs of the Hilbert spaces of analytic functions introduced by de Branges and Rovnyak. In the first part of the paper we focus on the case of Hilbert spaces, and introduce in particular a version of the Hardy space. Then we define Blaschke factors and Blaschke products and we consider an interpolation problem. In the second part of the paper we turn to the case of Pontryagin spaces. We first prove some results from the theory of Pontryagin spaces in the quaternionic setting and, in particular, a theorem of Shmulyan on densely defined contractive linear relations. We then study realizations of generalized Schur functions and of generalized Carath'eodory functions.

Schur functions and their realizations in the slice hyperholomorphic setting

we start the study of Schur analysis in the quaternionic setting using the theory of slice hyperholomorphic functions. The novelty of our approach is that slice hyperholomorphic functions allows to write realizations in terms of a suitable resolvent, the so called S-resolvent operator and to extend several results that hold in the complex case to the quaternionic case. We discuss reproducing kernels, positive definite functions in this setting and we show how they can be obtained in our setting using the extension operator and the slice regular product. We define Schur multipliers, and find their co-isometric realization in terms of the associated de Branges-Rovnyak space.

Extension results for slice regular functions of a quaternionic variable

In this paper we prove a new representation formula for slice regular functions, which shows that the value of a slice regular function $f$ at a point $q=x+yI$ can be recovered by the values of $f$ at the points $q+yJ$ and $q+yK$ for any choice of imaginary units $I, J, K.$ This result allows us to extend the known properties of slice regular functions defined on balls centered on the real axis to a much larger class of domains, called axially symmetric domains. We show, in particular, that axially symmetric domains play, for slice regular functions, the role played by domains of holomorphy for holomorphic functions.
