Discrete sine-Gordon equation on metric graphs: A simple model for Josephson junction networks

We consider discrete sine-Gordon equation on branched domains. The latter is modeled in terms of the metric graphs with discrete bonds having the form of the branched 1D chains. Exact analytical solutions of the problem are obtained for special case of the constraints given by in terms of simple sum rule. Numerical solution is obtained when the constraint is not fulfilled.

Dirac Particles in Transparent Quantum Graphs: Tunable transport of relativistic quasiparticles in branched structures

We consider the dynamics of relativistic spin-half particles in quantum graphs with transparent branching points. The system is modeled by combining the quantum graph concept with the one of transparent boundary conditions applied to the Dirac equation on metric graphs. Within such an approach, we derive simple constraints, which turn the usual Kirchhoff-type boundary conditions at the vertex equivalent to the transparent ones. Our method is applied to quantum star graph. An extension to more complicated graph topologies is straightforward.

Transparent nonlinear networks

We consider the reflectionless transport of solitons in networks. The system is modeled in terms of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation on metric graphs, for which transparent boundary conditions at the branching points are imposed. This allows to derive simple constraints, which link equivalent usual Kirchhoff-type vertex conditions to the transparent ones. Our approach is applied to a metric star graph. An extension to more complicated graph topologies is straight forward.

PT-symmetric quantum graphs

We consider branched quantum wires, whose connection rules provide PT-symmetry for the Schrodinger equation on graph. For such PT-symmetric quantum graph we derive general boundary conditions which keep the Hamiltonian as PT-symmetric with real eigenvalues and positively defined norm. Explicit boundary conditions which are consistent with the general PT-symmetric boundary conditions are presented. Secular equations for finding the eigenvalues of the quantum graph are derived. Breaking of the Kirchhoff rule at the branching point is shown. Experimental realization of PT-symmetric quantum graphs on branched optical waveguides is discussed.

Particle Transport in Graphene Nanoribbon Driven by Ultrashort Pulses

We study charge transport in a graphene zigzag nanoribbon driven by an external time-periodic kicking potential. Using the exact solution of the time-dependent Dirac equation with a delta-kick potential acting in each period, we study the time evolution of the quasienergy levels and the time-dependent optical conductivity. By variation of the kicking parameters, the conductivity becomes widely tunable.

Kicked Dirac particle in a box

We study quantum dynamics of a kicked relativistic spin-half particle in a one dimensional box. Time-dependence of the average kinetic energy and evolution of the wave packet are explored. Kicking potential is introduced as the Lorentz-scalar, i.e., through the mass-term in the Dirac equation. It is found that depending on the values of the kicking parameters E(t) can be periodic, monotonically growing and non-periodic function of time. Particle transport in the system is studied by considering spatio-temporal evolution of the Gaussian wave packet.Splitting of the packet into two symmetric parts and restoration of the profile of the packet is found.

Classical dynamics and particle transport in kicked billiards

We study nonlinear dynamics of the kicked particle whose motion is confined by square billiard. The kick source is considered as localized at the center of square with central symmetric spatial distribution. It is found that ensemble averaged energy of the particle diffusively grows as a function of time. This growth is much more extensive than that of kicked rotor energy. It is shown that momentum transfer distribution in kicked billiard is considerably different than that for kicked free particle. Time-dependence of the ensemble averaged energy for different localizations of the kick source is also explored. It is found that changing of localization doesn't lead to crucial changes in the time-dependence of the energy. Also, escape and transport of particles are studied by considering kicked open billiard with one and three holes, respectively. It is found that for the open billiard with one hole the number of (non-interacting) billiard particles decreases according to exponential law.

Electron loss of fast heavy projectiles in collision with neutral targets

The multiple electron loss of heavy projectiles in fast ion-atom collisions has been studied in the framework of the sudden perturbation approximation. Especially, a model is developed to calculate the cross sections for the loss of any number of electrons from the projectile ion, including the ionization of a single electron and up to the complete stripping of the projectile. For a given collision system, that is specified by the (type and charge state of the) projectile and target as well as the collision energy, in fact, the experimental cross sections for just three final states of the projectile are required by this model in order to predict the loss of any number, $N$, of electrons for the same collision system, or for any similar system that differs only in the energy or the initial charge state of the projectile ion. The model is simple and can be utilized for both, the projectile and target ionization, and without that large computer resources are requested. Detailed computation have been carried out for the multiple electron loss of Xe$^{18+}$ and U$^{6+,\, 10+,\, 28+}$ projectiles in collision with neutral Ar and Ne gas targets.

Ideal quantum gas in expanding cavity: nature of non-adiabatic force

We consider a quantum gas of non-interacting particles confined in the expanding cavity, and investigate the nature of the non-adiabatic force which is generated from the gas and acts on the cavity wall. Firstly, with use of the time-dependent canonical transformation which transforms the expanding cavity to the non-expanding one, we can define the force operator. Secondly, applying the perturbative theory which works when the cavity wall begins to move at time origin, we find that the non-adiabatic force is quadratic in the wall velocity and thereby does not break the time-reversal symmetry, in contrast with the general belief. Finally, using an assembly of the transitionless quantum states, we obtain the nonadiabatic force exactly. The exact result justifies the validity of both the definition of force operator and the issue of the perturbative theory. The mysterious mechanism of nonadiabatic transition with use of transitionless quantum states is also explained. The study is done on both cases of the hard-wall and soft-wall confinement with the time-dependent confining length.

Periodically driven dynamics of a particle moving in the field of Coulomb plus confining potential

Periodically driven dynamics of a particle moving in the field Coulomb plus confining potential is treated for one and three dimensional cases. Critical value of the external field strength at which chaotization will occur is evaluated analytically based on the resonance overlap criterion. The analysis of the phase-space dynamics is presented.

Transport in simple networks described by integrable discrete nonlinear SchrÄodinger equation

We elucidate the case in which the Ablowitz-Ladik (AL) type discrete nonlinear SchrÄodinger equa- tion (NLSE) on simple networks (e.g., star graphs and tree graphs) becomes completely integrable just as in the case of a simple 1-dimensional (1-d) discrete chain. The strength of cubic nonlinearity is different from bond to bond, and networks are assumed to have at least two semi-infinite bonds with one of them working as an incoming bond. The present work is a nontrivial extension of our preceding one (Sobirov et al, Phys. Rev. E 81, 066602 (2010)) on the continuum NLSE to the discrete case. We find: (1) the solution on each bond is a part of the universal (bond-independent) AL soliton solution on the 1-d discrete chain, but is multiplied by the inverse of square root of bond-dependent nonlinearity; (2) nonlinearities at individual bonds around each vertex must satisfy a sum rule; (3) under findings (1) and (2), there exist an infinite number of constants of motion. As a practical issue, with use of AL soliton injected through the incoming bond, we obtain transmission probabilities inversely proportional to the strength of nonlinearity on the outgoing bonds.

Quantum Chaos in the Yang-Mills-Higgs System at Finite Temperature

The quantum chaos in the finite-temperature Yang-Mills-Higgs system is studied. The energy spectrum of a spatially homogeneous SU(2) Yang-Mills-Higgs is calculated within thermofield dynamics. Level statistics of the spectra is studied by plotting nearest-level spacing distribution histograms. It is found that finite temperature effects lead to a strengthening of chaotic effects, i.e. spectrum which has Poissonian distribution at zero temperature has Gaussian distribution at finite-temperature.
