Emergence of Kinematic Space from Quantum Modular Geometric Tensor

We generalize the Quantum Geometric Tensor by replacing a Hamiltonian with a modular Hamiltonian. The symmetric part of the Quantum Geometric Tensor provides a Fubini-Study metric, and its anti-symmetric sector gives a Berry curvature. Now the generalization or Quantum Modular Geometric Tensor gives a Kinematic Space and a modular Berry curvature. Here we demonstrate the emergence by focusing on a spherical entangling surface. We also use the result of the identity Virasoro block to relate the connected correlator of two Wilson lines to the two-point function of a modular Hamiltonian. This result realizes a novel holographic entanglement formula for two intervals of a general separation. This formula does not only hold for a classical gravity sector but also Quantum Gravity. The formula also provides a new Quantum Information interpretation to the connected correlators of Wilson lines as the mutual information. Our study provides an opportunity to explore Quantum Kinematic Space through Quantum Modular Geometric Tensor and hence go beyond symmetry.

Tripartite Entanglement and Quantum Correlation

We provide an analytical tripartite-study from the generalized $R$-matrix. It provides the upper bound of the maximum violation of Mermin's inequality. For a generic 2-qubit pure state, the concurrence or $R$-matrix characterizes the maximum violation of Bell's inequality. Therefore, people expect that the maximum violation should be proper to quantify Quantum Entanglement. The $R$-matrix gives the maximum violation of Bell's inequality. For a general 3-qubit state, we have five invariant entanglement quantities up to local unitary transformations. We show that the five invariant quantities describe the correlation in the generalized $R$-matrix. The violation of Mermin's inequality is not a proper diagnosis due to the non-monotonic behavior. We then classify 3-qubit quantum states. Each classification quantifies Quantum Entanglement by the total concurrence. In the end, we relate the experiment correlators to Quantum Entanglement.

Analysis of the Entanglement with Centers

We begin from the quantization algebras and constraint for analyzing the choice of centers in the first-order formulation without losing generality. Then we calculate the entanglement entropy in the non-interacting $p$-form theory in $2p+2$ dimensional Euclidean flat background with an $S^{2p}$ entangling surface. The universal term of the entanglement entropy in the non-interacting $p$-form theory is determined in terms of the universal terms of the non-interacting zero-form theory. We also prove the strong subadditivity in the non-interacting theory with the non-trivial centers. Finally, we calculate the mutual information with centers in two-dimensional conformal field theory. The result shows that the mutual information is independent of the choice of centers.

Early-Time and Late-Time Quantum Chaos

We show the relation between the Heisenberg averaging of regularized 2-point out-of-time ordered correlation function and the 2-point spectral form factor in bosonic quantum mechanics. The generalization to all even-point is also discussed. We also do the direct extension from the bosonic quantum mechanics to the non-interacting scalar field theory. Finally, we find that the coherent state and large-$N$ approaches are useful in the late-time study. We find that the computation of the coherent state can be simplified by the Heisenberg averaging. Therefore, this provides a simplified way to probe the late-time quantum chaos through a coherent state. The large-$N$ result is also comparable to the $N=3$ numerical result in the large-$N$ quantum mechanics. This can justify that large-$N$ technique in bosonic quantum mechanics can probe the late time, not the early time. Because the quantitative behavior of large-$N$ can be captured from the $N=3$ numerical result, the realization in experiments should be possible.

Integrability and Spectral Form Factor in Chern-Simons Formulation

We study the integrability from the spectral form factor in the Chern-Simons formulation. The effective action in the higher spin sector was not derived so far. Therefore, we begin from the SL(3) Chern-Simons higher spin theory. Then the dimensional reduction in this Chern-Simons theory gives the SL(3) reparametrization invariant Schwarzian theory, which is the boundary theory of an interacting theory between the spin-2 and spin-3 fields at the infrared or massless limit. We show that the Lorentzian SL(3) Schwarzian theory is dual to the integrable model, SL(3) open Toda chain theory. Finally, we demonstrate the application of open Toda chain theory from the SL(2) case. The numerical result shows that the spectral form factor loses the dip-ramp-plateau behavior, consistent with integrability. The spectrum is not a Gaussian random matrix spectrum. We also give an exact solution of the spectral form factor for the SL(3) theory. This solution provides a similar form to the SL(2) case for $β\neq 0$. Hence the SL(3) theory should also do not have a Gaussian random matrix spectrum.

Lattice AdS Geometry and Continuum Limit

We construct the lattice AdS geometry. The lattice AdS$_2$ geometry and AdS$_3$ geometry can be extended from the lattice AdS$_2$ induced metric, which provided the lattice Schwarzian theory at the classical limit. Then we use the lattice embedding coordinates to rewrite the lattice AdS$_2$ geometry and AdS$_3$ geometry with the manifest isometry. The lattice AdS$_2$ geometry can be obtained from the lattice AdS$_3$ geometry through the compactification without the lattice artifact. The lattice embedding coordinates can also be used in the higher dimensional AdS geometry. Because the lattice Schwarzian theory does not suffer from the issue of the continuum limit, the lattice AdS$_2$ geometry can be obtained from the higher dimensional AdS geometry through the compactification, and the lattice AdS metric does not depend on the angular coordinates, we expect that the continuum limit should exist in the lattice Einstein gravity theory from this geometric lattice AdS geometry. Finally, we apply this lattice construction to construct the holographic tensor network without the issue of a continuum limit.

More Stringy Effects in Target Space from Double Field Theory

In Double Field Theory, the mass-squared of doubled fields associated with bosonic closed string states is proportional to $N_L+N_R-2$. Massless states are therefore not only the graviton, anti-symmetric, and dilaton fields with $(N_L=1, N_R=1)$ such theory is focused on, but also the symmetric traceless tensor and the vector field relative to the states $(N_L=2, N_R=0)$ and $(N_L=0, N_R=2)$ which are massive in the lower-dimensional non-compactified space. While they are not even physical in the absence of compact dimensions, they provide a sample of states for which both momenta and winding numbers are non-vanishing, differently from the states $(N_L=1, N_R=1)$. A quadratic action is therefore here built for the corresponding doubled fields. It results that its gauge invariance under the linearized double diffeomorphisms is based on a generalization of the usual weak constraint, giving rise to an extra mass term for the symmetric traceless tensor field, not otherwise detectable: this can be interpreted as a mere stringy effect in target space due to the simultaneous presence of momenta and windings. Furthermore, in the context of the generalized metric formulation, a non-linear extension of the gauge transformations is defined involving the constraint extended from the weak constraint that can be uniquely defined in triple products of fields. Finally, we show that the above mentioned stringy effect does not appear in the case of only one compact doubled space dimension.

Quantum Correction of the Wilson Line and Entanglement Entropy in the Pure AdS$_3$ Einstein Gravity Theory

We calculate the expectation value of the Wilson line in the pure AdS$_3$ Einstein gravity theory and also the entanglement entropy in the boundary theory. Our one-loop calculation of entanglement entropy shows a shift of the central charge 26. Finally, we show that the Wilson line provides the equivalent description to the boundary entanglement entropy. This equivalence leads to a concrete example of the building of "minimum surface=entanglement entropy".

Two-Dimensional Dilaton Gravity Theory and Lattice Schwarzian Theory

We report a holographic study of a two-dimensional dilaton gravity theory with the Dirichlet boundary condition for the cases of non-vanishing and vanishing cosmological constants. Our result shows that the boundary theory of the two-dimensional dilaton gravity theory with the Dirichlet boundary condition for the case of non-vanishing cosmological constants is the Schwarzian term coupled to a dilaton field, while for the case of vanishing cosmological constant, a theory does not have a kinetic term. We also include the higher derivative term $R^2$, where $R$ is the scalar curvature that is coupled to a dilaton field. We find that the form of the boundary theory is not modified perturbatively. Finally, we show that a lattice holographic picture is realized up to the second-order perturbation of boundary cut-off $ε^2$ under a constant boundary dilaton field and the non-vanishing cosmological constant by identifying the lattice spacing $a$ of a lattice Schwarzian theory with the boundary cut-off $ε$ of the two-dimensional dilaton gravity theory.

Electric-Magnetic Dualities in Non-Abelian and Non-Commutative Gauge Theories

Electric-magnetic dualities are equivalence between strong and weak coupling constants. A standard example is the exchange of electric and magnetic fields in an abelian gauge theory. We show three methods to perform electric-magnetic dualities in the case of the non-commutative $U(1)$ gauge theory. The first method is to use covariant field strengths to be the electric and magnetic fields. We find an invariant form of an equation of motion after performing the electric-magnetic duality. The second method is to use the Seiberg-Witten map to rewrite the non-commutative $U(1)$ gauge theory in terms of abelian field strength. The third method is to use the large Neveu Schwarz-Neveu Schwarz (NS-NS) background limit (non-commutativity parameter only has one degree of freedom) to consider the non-commutative $U(1)$ gauge theory or D3-brane. In this limit, we introduce or dualize a new one-form gauge potential to get a D3-brane in a large Ramond-Ramond (R-R) background via field redefinition. We also use perturbation to study the equivalence between two D3-brane theories. Comparison of these methods in the non-commutative $U(1)$ gauge theory gives different physical implications. The comparison reflects the differences between the non-abelian and non-commutative gauge theories in the electric-magnetic dualities. For a complete study, we also extend our studies to the simplest abelian and non-abelian $p$-form gauge theories, and a non-commutative theory with the non-abelian structure.

Boundary Conditions and the Generalized Metric Formulation of the Double Sigma Model

Double sigma model with the strong constraints is equivalent to the normal sigma model by imposing the self-duality relation. The gauge symmetries are the diffeomorphism and one-form gauge transformation with the strong constraints. We modify the Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions with the fully $O(D, D)$ description from the doubled gauge fields. We perform the one-loop $β$ function for the constant background fields to find low energy effective theory without using the strong constraints. The low energy theory can also be $O(D,D)$ invariant as the double sigma model. We use the other one way to construct different boundary conditions from the projectors. Finally, we combine the antisymmetric background field with the field strength to redefine a different $O(D, D)$ generalized metric. We use this generalized metric to construct a consistent double sigma model with the classical and quantum equivalence. We show the one-loop $β$ function for the constant background fields and obtain the normal sigma model after integrating out the dual coordinates.

Dimensional Reduction of the Generalized DBI

We study the generalized Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) action, which describes a $q$-brane ending on a $p$-brane with a ($q$+1)-form background. This action has the equivalent descriptions in commutative and non-commutative settings, which can be shown from the generalized metric and Nambu-Sigma model. We mainly discuss the dimensional reduction of the generalized DBI at the massless level on the flat spacetime and constant antisymmetric background in the case of flat spacetime, constant antisymmetric background and the gauge potential vanishes for all time-like components. In the case of $q=2$, we can do the dimensional reduction to get the DBI theory. We also try to extend this theory by including a one-form gauge potential.

Entanglement with Centers

Entanglement is a physical phenomenon that each state cannot be described individually. Entanglement entropy gives quantitative understanding to the entanglement. We use decomposition of the Hilbert space to discuss properties of the entanglement. Therefore, partial trace operator becomes important to define the reduced density matrix from different centers, which commutes with all elements in the Hilbert space, corresponding to different entanglement choices or different observations on entangling surface. Entanglement entropy is expected to satisfy the strong subadditivity. We discuss decomposition of the Hilbert space for the strong subadditivity and other related inequalities. The entanglement entropy with centers can be computed from the Hamitonian formulations systematically, provided that we know wavefunctional. In the Hamitonian formulation, it is easier to obtain symmetry structure. We consider massless $p$-form theory as an example. The massless $p$-form theory in ($2p+2)$-dimensions has global symmetry, similar to the electric-magnetic duality, connecting centers in ground state. This defines a duality structure in centers. Because it is hard to exactly compute the entanglement entropy from partial trace operator, we propose the Lagrangian formulation from the Hamitonian formulation to compute the entanglement entropy with centers. From the Lagrangian method and saddle point approximation, the codimension two surface term (leading order) in the Einstein gravity theory or holographic entanglement entropy should correspond to non-tensor product decomposition (center is not identity). Finally, we compute the entanglement entropy of the $SU(N)$ Yang-Mills lattice gauge theory in the fundamental representation using the strong coupling expansion in the extended lattice model to obtain spatial area term in total dimensions larger than two for $N>1$.

Gauge Transformation of Double Field Theory for Open String

We combine symmetry structures of ordinary (parallel directions) and dual (transversal directions) coordinates to construct the Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) theory. The ordinary coordinates are associated with the Neumann boundary conditions and the dual coordinates are associated with the Dirichlet boundary conditions. Gauge fields become scalar fields by exchanging the ordinary and dual coordinates. A gauge transformation of a generalized metric is governed by the generalized Lie derivative. The gauge transformation of the massless closed string theory gives the $C$-bracket, but the gauge transformation of the open string theory gives the $F$-bracket. The $F$-bracket with the strong constraints is different from the Courant bracket by an exact one-form. This exact one-form should come from the one-form gauge field. Based on symmetry point of view, we deduce a suitable action with a non-zero $H$-flux at the low-energy level. From an equation of motion of the scalar dilaton, it defines a generalized scalar curvature. Finally, we construct a double sigma model with a boundary term and show that this model with constraints is classically equivalent to the ordinary sigma model.

One-Loop $β$ Function of the Double Sigma Model with Constant Background

The double sigma model with the strong constraints is equivalent to a classical theory of the normal sigma model with one on-shell self-duality relation. The one-form gauge field comes from the boundary term. It is the same as the normal sigma model. The gauge symmetries under the strong constraints are the diffeomorphism and one-form gauge transformation in the double sigma model. These gauge symmetries are also the same as the Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) theory. The main task of this work is to compute one-loop $β$ function to obtain the low energy effective theory of the double sigma model. We implement the self-duality relation in the action to perform the one-loop calculation. At last, we obtain the DBI theory. We also rewrite this theory in terms of the generalized metric and scalar dilaton, and define the generalized scalar curvature and tensor from the equations of motion.

S-Duality for D3-Brane in NS-NS and R-R Backgrounds

We construct the low-energy effective field theory for a D3-brane in constant R-R 2-form potential background as the S-dual theory of a D3-brane in NS-NS B-field background. Despite the non-Abelian algebra of the noncommutative U(1) gauge symmetry, the electromagnetic duality transformation can be carried out to all orders, and the dual Lagrangian is given in a compact form. The gauge algebra is found to be a mixture of a deformed area-preserving diffeomorphism and the usual U(1) gauge symmetry.

Effective Action for Dp-Brane in Large RR (p-1)-Form Background

We construct the low energy effective action for the bosonic sector on a Dp-brane in large constant RR (p-1)-form field background. The action is invariant under both U(1) gauge symmetry and the volume-preserving diffeomorphism characterizing the RR-field background. Scalar fields representing transverse coordinates of the Dp-brane are included. It also respects T-duality and is consistent with the action for M5-brane in C-field background.

Imaginary polarization as a way to surmount the sign problem in ab initio calculations of spin-imbalanced Fermi gases

From ultracold atoms to quantum chromodynamics, reliable ab initio studies of strongly interacting fermions require numerical methods, typically in some form of quantum Monte Carlo calculation. Unfortunately, (non)relativistic systems at finite density (spin polarization) generally have a sign problem, such that those ab initio calculations are impractical. It is well-known, however, that in the relativistic case imaginary chemical potentials solve this problem, assuming the data can be analytically continued to the real axis. Is this feasible for nonrelativistic systems? Are the interesting features of the phase diagram accessible in this manner? By introducing complex chemical potentials, for real total particle number and imaginary polarization, the sign problem is avoided in the nonrelativistic case. To give a first answer to the above questions, we perform a mean-field study of the finite-temperature phase diagram of spin-1/2 fermions with imaginary polarization.

BPS States on M5-brane in Large C-field Background

We extensively study BPS solutions of the low energy effective theory of M5-brane in large C-field background. This provides us an opportunity to explore the interactions turned on by C-field background through the Nambu-Poisson structure. The BPS states considered in this paper include the M-waves, the self-dual string (M2 ending on M5), tilted M5-brane, holomorphic embedding of M5-brane and the intersection of two M5-branes along a 3-brane.

Supersymmetry and BPS States on D4-brane in Large C-field Background

In this paper, we continue our previous study of the low energy effective theory for D4-brane in the large C-field background. The gauge field part of the effective action was found in an earlier work. In this paper, we focus on the matter field part of the action and the supersymmetry transformation. Moreover, we calculate the central charges of super algebra and extensively study BPS solutions of this effective theory. The BPS states considered in this paper include light-like gauge field configurations, the F1 ending on D4 solution, tilted D4-brane, BPS solution with two types of magnetic charges (D2 ending on D4), holomorphic embedding of D4-brane and the intersection of two D4-branes along a 2-brane.
