Scotogenic majorana neutrino masses in a predictive orbifold theory of flavour

The use of extra space-time dimensions provides a promising approach to the flavour problem. The chosen compactification of a 6-dimensional orbifold implies a remnant family symmetry $A_4$. This makes interesting predictions for quark and lepton masses, for neutrino oscillations and neutrinoless double beta decay, providing also a very good global description of all flavour observables. Due to an auxiliary $\mathbb{Z}_4$ symmetry, we implement a scotogenic Majorana neutrino mass generation mechanism with a viable WIMP dark matter candidate.

Scotogenic neutrino masses with gauged matter parity and gauge coupling unification

Building up on previous work we propose a Dark Matter (DM) model with gauged matter parity and dynamical gauge coupling unification, driven by the same physics responsible for scotogenic neutrino mass generation. Our construction is based on the extended gauge group \3311, whose spontaneous breaking leaves a residual conserved matter parity, $M_{P}$, stabilizing the DM particle candidates of the model. A key role is played by the Majorana ${\rm SU(3)_{L}}$-octet leptons, in allowing successful gauge coupling unification and one-loop scotogenic neutrino mass generation. Theoretical consistency allows for a \emph{plethora} of new particles at the $\lsim \mathcal{O}$(10) TeV scale, hence accessible to future collider and low-energy experiments.

Flavour and CP predictions from orbifold compactification

We propose a theory for fermion masses and mixings in which an $A_4$ family symmetry arises naturally from a six-dimensional spacetime after orbifold compactification. The flavour symmetry leads to the successful "golden" quark-lepton unification formula. The model reproduces oscillation parameters with good precision, giving sharp predictions for the CP violating phases of quarks and leptons, in particular $δ^\ell \simeq +268 ^\circ$. The effective neutrinoless double-beta decay mass parameter is also sharply predicted as $\langle m_{ββ}\rangle \simeq 2.65\ meV$.

Probing the predictions of an orbifold theory of flavor

We examine the implications of a recently proposed theory of fermion masses and mixings in which an $A_4$ family symmetry emerges from orbifold compactification. We analyse two variant schemes concerning their predictions for neutrino oscillations, neutrinoless double-beta decay and the golden quark-lepton unification mass relation. We find that upcoming experiments DUNE as well as LEGEND and nEXO offer good chances of exploring a substantial region of neutrino parameters.

Simple theory for scotogenic dark matter with residual matter-parity

Dark matter stability can result from a residual matter-parity symmetry surviving spontaneous breaking of an extended gauge symmetry. We propose the simplest scotogenic dark matter completion of the original SVS theory (Phys.Rev. D22 (1980) 738), in which the "dark sector" particles as well as matter-parity find a natural theoretical origin in the model. We briefly comment on its main features.

Electroweak phase transition in a model with gauged lepton number

In this work we study the electroweak phase transition in a model with gauged lepton number. Here, a family of vector-like leptons is required in order to cancel the gauge anomalies. Furthermore, these leptons can play an important role in the transition process. We find that this framework is able to provide a strong transition, but only for a very limited number of cases.

Yukawa textures or dark doublets from Two Higgs Doublet Models with $Z_3$ symmetry

The effect of $Z_3$ symmetry on the general Two Higgs Doublet Model is explored. Of particular interest is the question of what can a $Z_3$ symmetry do beyond the usual case with $Z_2$. There are two independent scenarios that give some interesting results: first, by giving non-trivial charges to the Standard Model fermions, it is possible to use the $Z_3$ symmetry of the scalar potential to generate potentially useful Yukawa textures. This is not possible with $Z_2$. A series of possibilities is presented where their viability is addressed and a specific example in the quark sector is given for concreteness. The second venue of interest is in the area of inert doublets. It is shown that by considering the Standard Model plus two additional inert doublet scalars, i.e. a Dark Two Higgs Doublet Model, together with $Z_3$, a scenario can be obtained that differs from the $Z_2$ case. Some general comments are presented on the potentially interesting phenomenology of such model.

Renormalization of the QED of self-interacting second order spin 1/2 fermions

We study the one-loop level renormalization of the electrodynamics of spin 1/2 fermions in the Poincaré projector formalism, in arbitrary covariant gauge and including fermion self-interactions, which are dimension four operators in this framework. We show that the model is renormalizable for arbitrary values of the tree level gyromagnetic factor g within the validity region of the perturbative expansion, αg^2 << 1. In the absence of tree level fermion self-interactions, we recover the pure QED of second order fermions, which is renormalizable only for |g|=2. Turning off the electromagnetic interaction we obtain a renormalizable Nambu-Jona-Lasinio-like model with second order fermions in four space-time dimensions.

Renormalization of the second-order QCD with arbitrary chromomagnetic factor and quark self-interactions

In this work, the renormalization of the second-order QCD is analyzed at one-loop level, including an arbitrary chromomagnetic factor and quark self-interactions, which are mass dimension four operators in this framework. The model is shown to be renormalizable for any value of the chromomagnetic factor $κ$ in the validity region of the perturbative expansion, and Dirac QCD is recovered in the $κ=2$ case with vanishing self-interaction couplings.
