Searching for possible evidences of new physics in $B\to V_1 V_2$

We explore the decays of $B\to V_1V_2$ ($V_{1,2}= (ρ, ω,K^*, ϕ)$ and $B= (B^0, B^+,B_s)$) with transverse polarizations. We explicitly evaluate the eigenstates of T-odd scalar operators involving spins for the first time, which offer physical insight among the T violating observables. Based on the helicity suppression of tree operators for transverse polarizations in the standard model (SM), we deduce that $Δϕ_p= Δϕ_\parallel - Δϕ_\perp=0$ with $Δϕ_{\perp,\parallel}$ the weak phases of the transverse amplitudes. In contrast, the experiments show that $Δϕ_p (B^0 \to K^{*0} ω)= -0.84\pm 0.54$, which could be a signal of new physics. There is also a discrepancy between our result in the SM and the experimental data for the transverse polarized branching ratio in $B^0 \to K^{*0} ω$. In addition, by counting the helicity flips, we argue that $\sin(ϕ_\parallel - ϕ_\perp ) \approx 0$, which meets well with most of the experiments except for the ones with $B^0\to K^{*0}ω$, where $ϕ_{\parallel,\perp}$ are the strong phases in the transverse amplitudes.

Non-leptonic two-body decays of $Λ_b^0$ in light-front quark model

We study the non-leptonic two-body weak decays of $Λ_b^0 \to p M$ with $ M=(π^-,K^-)$ and $(ρ^-,K^{*-})$ in the light-front quark model under the generalized factorization ansatz. By considering the Fermi statistic between quarks and determining spin-flavor structures in baryons, we calculate the branching ratios (${\cal B}$s) and CP-violating rate asymmetries ($\mathcal{A}_{CP}$s) in the decays. Explicitly, we find that ${\cal B}( Λ_b^0 \to p π^- ,pK^-)=(4.18\pm0.15\pm0.30, 5.76\pm0.88\pm0.23)\times10^{-6}$ and ${\mathcal{A}_{CP}}( Λ_b^0 \to p π^- ,\,pK^-)=(-3.60\pm0.14\pm0.14, 6.36\pm0.21\pm0.18)\%$ in comparison with the data of ${\cal B}( Λ_b^0 \to p π^- ,pK^-)=(4.5\pm0.8, 5.4\pm1.0)\times10^{-6}$ and ${\mathcal{A}_{CP}}( Λ_b^0 \to p π^- ,pK^-)=(-2.5\pm 2.9, -2.5\pm2.2)\%$ given by the Particle Data Group, respectively. We also predict that ${\cal B}( Λ_b^0 \to p ρ^-,pK^{*-} )=(12.13\pm3.27\pm0.91, 2.58\pm0.87\pm0.13)\times 10^{-6}$ and ${\mathcal{A}_{CP}}( Λ_b^0 \to p ρ^-,pK^{*-} )=(-3.32\pm0.00\pm0.14,19.25\pm0.00\pm0.80)\%$, which could be observed by the experiments at LHCb.

Charmed Baryon Weak Decays with Vector Mesons

We give a systematic study of ${\bf B}_c\to {\bf B}_n V$ decays, where ${\bf B}_c$ and $ {\bf B}_n$ correspond to the anti-triplet charmed and octet baryons, respectively, while $V$ stand for the vector mesons. We calculate the color-symmetric contributions to the decays from the effective Hamiltonian with the factorization approach and extract the anti-symmetric ones based on the experimental measurements and $SU(3)_F$ flavor symmetry. We find that most of the existing experimental data for ${\bf B}_c\to {\bf B}_n V$ are consistent with our fitting results. We present all the branching ratios of the Cabbibo allowed, singly Cabbibo suppressed and doubly Cabbibo suppressed decays of ${\bf B}_c\to {\bf B}_n V$. The decay parameters for the daughter baryons and mesons in ${\bf B}_c\to {\bf B}_n V$ are also evaluated. In particular, we point out that the Cabbibo allowed decays of $Λ_c^+ \to Λ^0 ρ^+$ and $ Ξ_c^0 \to Ξ^- ρ^+$ as well as the singly Cabbibo suppressed ones of $Λ_c^+ \to Λ^0 K^{*+}$, $Ξ_c^+ \to Σ^+ ϕ$ and $Ξ_c^0\to Ξ^- K^{*+}$ have large branching ratios and decay parameters with small uncertainties, which can be tested by the experimental searches at the charm facilities.

Consequences of Neutrinoless Double Decays Dominated by Short Range Interactions

We investigate some consequences if neutrinoless double beta decays of nuclei are dominated by short range interactions. To illustrate our results, we assume that such decays proceed mainly through short range interactions involving two-W-bosons exchanges and confine ourselves to only include new scalars without new gauge interactions for SM fermions. For the neutrino mass problem we propose to solve it by adopting that the active light neutrinos have predominantly Dirac masses and the small Majorana masses induced by the new scalars render them pseudo(quasi)-Dirac particles. This particular aspect of neutrinos may be detectable in the next generation of neutrino oscillation experiments and/or neutrino telescopes. If so this opens a new connection between neutrinoless double beta decays and neutrino physics. We also noted the new physics signals such as high charged scalar states that can be explored in hadron colliders. In particular, we find that a high energy e^- e^- collider will be very useful in testing the origin of lepton number violation which complements neutrinoless double decays studies.

Mixing effects of $Σ^0-Λ^0$ in $Λ_c^+$ decays

We analyze the mixing between $Σ^0$ and $Λ^0$ based on the baryon masses. We distinguish the contributions from QCD and QED in the baryon mass splittings. We find that the mixing angle between $Σ^0$ and $Λ^0$ is $(2.07\pm 0.03)\times 10^{-2} $, which leads to the decay branching fraction and up-down asymmetry of $Λ_c^+ \to Σ^0 e^+ ν_e$ to be ${\cal B}(Λ_c^+ \to Σ^0 e^+ ν_e)=(1.5\pm 0.2)\times 10^{-5}$ and $α(Λ_c^+ \to Σ^0 e^+ ν_e)=-0.86\pm 0.04$, respectively. Moreover, we obtain that $Δ{\cal B}\equiv {\cal B}(Λ_c^+\to Σ^0 π^+) - {\cal B}(Λ_c^+\to Σ^+π^0)=(3.8\pm 0.5)\times 10^{-4}$ and $Δα\equivα(Λ_c^+\to Σ^0 π^+) -α(Λ_c^+\to Σ^+π^0)=(-1.6\pm 0.7)\times10^{-2}$, which should vanish without the mixing.

Semileptonic decays of $Λ_c^+$ in dynamical approaches

We study the semileptonic decays of $Λ_c^+ \to Λ(n)\ell^+ ν_{\ell}$ in two relativistic dynamical approaches of the light-front constituent quark model (LFCQM) and MIT bag model (MBM). By considering the Fermi statistic between quarks and determining spin-flavor structures in baryons along with the helicity formalism in the two different dynamical models, we calculate the branching ratios (${\cal B}$s) and averaged asymmetry parameters ($α$s) in the decays. Explicitly, we find that ${\cal B}( Λ_c^+ \to Λe^+ ν_{e})=(3.36\pm0.87,3.48)\%$ and $α( Λ_c^+ \to Λe^+ ν_{e})=(-0.97\pm0.03,-0.83)$ in (LFCQM, MBM), in comparison with the data of ${\cal B}( Λ_c^+ \to Λe^+ ν_{e})=(3.6\pm0.4)\%$ and $α( Λ_c^+ \to Λe^+ ν_{e})=-0.86\pm 0.04$ given by the Particle Data Group, respectively. We also predict that ${\cal B}( Λ_c^+ \to n e^+ ν_{e})=(0.57\pm0.15, 3.6\pm1.5)\times 10^{-3}$ and $α( Λ_c^+ \to n e^+ ν_{e})=(-0.98\pm0.02,-0.96\pm0.04)$ in LFCQM with two different scenarios for the momentum distributions of quarks in the neutron, and ${\cal B}( Λ_c^+ \to n e^+ ν_{e})= 0.279\times 10^{-2}$ and $α( Λ_c^+ \to n e^+ ν_{e})=-0.87$ in MBM, which could be tested by the ongoing experiments at BESIII, LHCb and BELLEII.

Determination of $|V_{ub}|$ from exclusive baryonic $B$ decays

We use the exclusive baryonic $B$ decays to determine the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix element $V_{ub}$. From the relation $|V_{ub}|^2/|V_{cb}|^2=({\cal B}_π/{\cal B}_D){\cal R}_{ff}$ based on $B^-\to p\bar p π^-$ and $\bar B^0\to p\bar p D^0$ decays, where $|V_{cb}|$ and ${\cal B}_π/{\cal B}_D\equiv{\cal B}(B^-\to p\bar p π^-)/{\cal B}(\bar B^0\to p\bar p D^0)$ are the data input parameters, while ${\cal R}_{ff}$ is the one fixed by the $B\to p\bar p$ transition matrix elements, we find $|V_{ub}|=(3.48^{+0.87}_{-0.63}\pm 0.40\pm 0.07)\times 10^{-3}$ with the errors corresponding to the uncertainties from ${\cal R}_{ff}$, ${\cal B}_π/{\cal B}_D$ and $|V_{cb}|$, respectively. Being independent of the previous results, our determination of $|V_{ub}|$ has the central value close to those from the exclusive $\bar B\to π\ell\bar ν_\ell$ and $Λ_b\to pμ^-\bar ν_μ$ decays, but overlaps the one from the inclusive $\bar B\to X_u \ell\bar ν_\ell$ with the current uncertainties. The extraction of $|V_{ub}|$ in the baryonic $B$ decays is clearly very useful for the complete determination of the CKM matrix elements as well as the exploration of new physics.

Exploring the simplest purely baryonic decay processes

Though not considered in general, purely baryonic decays could shed light on the puzzle of the baryon number asymmetry in the universe by means of a better understanding of the baryonic nature of our matter world. As such, they constitute a yet unexplored class of decay processes worth investigating. We propose to search for purely baryonic decay processes at the LHCb experiment. No such type of decay has ever been observed. In particular, we concentrate on the decay $Λ_b^0\to p\bar pn$, which is the simplest purely baryonic decay mode, with solely spin-1/2 baryons involved. We predict its decay branching ratio to be ${\cal B}(Λ_b^0\to p\bar pn)=(2.0^{+0.3}_{-0.2})\times 10^{-6}$, which is sufficiently large to make the decay mode accessible to LHCb. Our study can be extended to other purely baryonic decays such as $Λ_b^0\to p\bar p Λ$ and $Λ_b^0\to Λ\bar ΛΛ$, as well as to similar decays of anti-triplet $b$-baryons such as $Ξ_b^{0,-}$.

Factorization and angular distribution asymmetries in charmful baryonic B decays

We examine the validity of the generalized factorization method and calculate the angular correlations in the charmful three-body baryonic decays of $\bar B^0\to Λ\bar p D^{(*)+}$. With the timelike baryonic form factors newly extracted from the measured baryonic $B$ decays, we obtain ${\cal B}(\bar B^0\to Λ\bar p D^+,Λ\bar p D^{*+})=(1.85\pm 0.30,2.75\pm 0.24)\times 10^{-5}$ to agree with the recent data from the BELLE Collaboration, which demonstrates that the theoretical approach based on the factorization still works well. For the angular distribution asymmetries, we find ${\cal A}_θ(\bar B^0\to Λ\bar p D^+,Λ\bar p D^{*+})=(-0.030\pm 0.002\,,+0.150\pm 0.000)$, which are consistent with the current measurements. Moreover, we predict that ${\cal A}_θ(\bar B^0\to p\bar p D^{0},p\bar p D^{*0})=+0.04\pm 0.01$. Future precise explorations of these angular correlations at BELLE and LHCb as well as super-BELLE are important to justify the present factorization approach in the charmful three-body baryonic decays.

Roles of scalar mesons in charmless $Λ_b$ decays

We first study the charmless two-body $Λ_b$ decays with the scalar mesons as the final states and predict that ${\cal B}(Λ_b\to Λf_0(980,1500))=(2.9\pm 0.7,12.4\pm 3.8)\times 10^{-6}$ and ${\cal B}(Λ_b\to p K^{*-}_0(800,1430))=(1.9\pm 0.5,14.1\pm 4.5)\times 10^{-6}$. With the resonant $f_0(980,1500)\to (π^+π^-,K^+K^-)$ and $K^{*-}_0\to \bar K^0 π^-$ decays, we then obtain ${\cal B}(Λ_b\to Λ(π^+π^-,K^+K^-))=(4.2\pm 1.0,3.5\pm0.7)\times 10^{-6}$ and ${\cal B}(Λ_b\to p\bar K^0 π^-)=(10.4\pm2.9)\times 10^{-6}$, in comparison with the data of $(4.6\pm 1.9,15.9\pm2.6)\times 10^{-6}$ and $(12.6\pm 4.0)\times 10^{-6}$ from LHCb, respectively. Our results for $Λ_b\to Λπ^+π^-$ and $Λ_b\to p\bar K^0 π^-$ would be regarded as the first evidences of the scalar meson productions in the anti-triplet $b$-baryon decays. The smaller predicted value of ${\cal B}(Λ_b\to ΛK^+K^-)$ indicates the existences of other resonant contributions to the decay, such as $Λ_b\to K^-(N^{*+}\to)ΛK^+$.

Search for $XYZ$ states in $Λ_b$ decays at the LHCb

We consider $X(3872)$ and $Y(4140)$ as the vector tetraquark states of $X_c^0\equiv c\bar c u\bar u(d\bar d)$ and $c\bar c s\bar s$, respectively. By connecting $Λ_b\to X_c^0Λ$ to $B^-\to X_c^0 K^-$, we predict that the branching ratios of $Λ_b\to Λ(X(3872)^0\to) J/ψπ^+π^-$ and $Λ_b\to Λ(Y(4140)\to) J/ψϕ$ are $(5.2\pm 1.8)\times 10^{-6}$ and $(4.7\pm 2.6)\times 10^{-6}$, which are accessible to the experiments at the LHCb, respectively. The measurements of these $Λ_b$ modes would be the first experimental evidences for the $XYZ$ states in baryonic decays.

Study of $Λ_b\to Λ(ϕ,η^{(\prime)})$ and $Λ_b\to ΛK^+K^-$ decays

We study the charmless two-body $Λ_b\to Λ(ϕ,η^{(\prime)})$ and three-body $Λ_b\to ΛK^+K^- $ decays. We obtain ${\cal B}(Λ_b\to Λϕ)=(3.53\pm 0.24)\times 10^{-6}$ to agree with the recent LHCb measurement. However, we find that ${\cal B}(Λ_b\to Λ(ϕ\to)K^+ K^-)=(1.71\pm 0.12)\times 10^{-6}$ is unable to explain the LHCb observation of ${\cal B}(Λ_b\toΛK^+ K^-)=(15.9\pm 1.2\pm 1.2\pm 2.0)\times 10^{-6}$, which implies the possibility for other contributions, such as that from the resonant $Λ_b\to K^- N^*,\,N^*\toΛK^+$ decay with $N^*$ as a higher-wave baryon state. For $Λ_b\to Λη^{(\prime)}$, we show that ${\cal B}(Λ_b\to Λη,\,Λη^\prime)= (1.47\pm 0.35,1.83\pm 0.58)\times 10^{-6}$, which are consistent with the current data of $(9.3^{+7.3}_{-5.3},<3.1)\times 10^{-6}$, respectively. Our results also support the relation of ${\cal B}(Λ_b\to Λη) \simeq {\cal B}(Λ_b\toΛη^\prime)$, given by the previous study.

$f_J(2220)$ and Hadronic $\bar B^0_s$ Decays

We study the hadronic $\bar B^0_s$ decays based on the existence of the resonant state $f_J(2220)$. In particular, we are able to explain the unexpected large experimental result of ${\cal B}(\bar B^0_s\to J/ψp\bar p) =(3.0^{+1.2}_{-1.1}\pm 0.52\pm 0.03)\times 10^{-6}$ measured recently by the LHCb collaboration due to the resonant contribution in $\bar B^0_s\to J/ψf_J(2220)$ with $f_J(2220) \to p\bar p$, while it is estimated to be at most of order $10^{-9}$ in terms of the OZI rule without the resonance. In addition, we find that ${\cal B}(\bar B^0_s\to D^{*0}(f_J\to) p\bar p)=(4.05\pm 2.46)\times 10^{-7}$, ${\cal B}(\bar B^0_s\to J/ψ(f_J\to)ππ)=(15.6\pm 15.2)\times 10^{-6}$ and ${\cal B}(\bar B^0_s\to D^{*0}(f_J\to)ππ)=(21.2\pm 20.9)\times 10^{-7}$, while ${\cal B}(\bar B^0_s\to J/ψ(f_J\to)K\bar K)<1.6\times 10^{-5}$ and ${\cal B}(\bar B^0_s\to D^{*0}(f_J\to)K\bar K)<2.2\times 10^{-6}$. Moreover, we predict that the decay branching ratios of $\bar B^0_s\to (J/ψ\,,D^{*0})Λ\bar Λ$ are $(2.68\pm1.23)\times 10^{-7}$ and $(2.25\pm0.80)\times 10^{-6}$. Some of the predicted $\bar B^0_s$ decays are accessible to the experiments at the LHCb.

Charmful two-body anti-triplet $b$-baryon decays

We study the charmful decays of the two-body ${\cal B}_b\to {\cal B}_n M_c$ decays, where ${\cal B}_b$ represents the anti-triplet of $(Λ_b,Ξ_b^0,Ξ_b^-)$, ${\cal B}_n$ stands for the baryon octet and $M_c$ denotes as the charmed meson of $D^{(*)}_{(s)}$, $η_c$ and $J/ψ$. Explicitly, we predict that ${\cal B}(Λ_b\to D_s^- p)=(1.8\pm 0.3)\times 10^{-5}$, which is within the measured upper bound of ${\cal B}(Λ_b\to D_s^- p)<4.8(5.3)\times 10^{-4}$ at 90\%\,(95\%) C.L., and reproduce ${\cal B}(Λ_b\to J/ψΛ)=(3.3\pm 2.0)\times 10^{-4}$ and ${\cal B}(Ξ_b^-\to J/ψΞ^-)=(5.1\pm 3.2)\times 10^{-4}$ in agreement with the data. Moreover, we find that ${\cal B}(Λ_b \to Λη_c)=(1.5 \pm 0.9) \times 10^{-4}$, ${\cal B}(Ξ_b^-\toΞ^-η_c)=(2.4\pm1.5) \times 10^{-4}$ and ${\cal B}(Ξ_b^0\toΞ^0η_c,Ξ^0 J/ψ)=(2.3\pm1.4,4.9\pm3.0)\times 10^{-4}$, which are accessible to the experiments at the LHCb.

Fragmentation fractions of two-body b-baryon decays

We study the fragmentation fractions $(f_{{\bf B}_b})$ of the $b$-quark to b-baryons (${\bf B}_b$). By the assumption of $f_{Λ_b}/(f_u+f_d)=0.25\pm 0.15$ in accordance with the measurements by LEP, CDF and LHCb Collaborations, we estimate that $f_{Λ_b}=0.175\pm 0.106$ and $f_{Ξ_b^{-,0}}=0.019\pm 0.013$. From these fragmentation fractions, we derive ${\cal B}(Λ_b\to J/ψΛ)=(3.3\pm 2.1)\times 10^{-4}$, ${\cal B}(Ξ_b^-\to J/ψΞ^-)=(5.3\pm 3.9)\times 10^{-4}$ and ${\cal B}(Ω_b^-\to J/ψΩ^-)>1.9\times 10^{-5}$. The predictions of ${\cal B}(Λ_b\to J/ψΛ)$ and ${\cal B}(Ξ_b^-\to J/ψΞ^-)$ clearly enable us to test the theoretical models, such as the QCD factorization approach in the $b$-baryon decays.

Pentaquarks from intrinsic charms in $Λ_b$ decays

We study the three-body $Λ_b$ decays of $Λ_b\to J/ψpM$ with $M=K^-$ and $π^-$. The two new states ${\cal P}_{c1}\equiv {\cal P}_c(4380)^+$ and ${\cal P}_{c2}\equiv {\cal P}_c(4450)^+$ observed recently as the resonances in the $J/ψp$ invariant mass spectrum of $Λ_b\to J/ψp K^-$ can be identified to consist of five quarks, $uudc\bar c$, being consistent with the existence of the pentaquark states. We argue that, in the doubly charmful $Λ_b$ decays of $Λ_b\to J/ψpK^-$ through $b\to c\bar c s$, apart from those through the non-resonant $Λ_b\to pK^-$ and resonant $Λ_b\to Λ^*\to pK^-$ transitions, the third contribution with the non-factorizable effects is not the dominant part for the resonant $Λ_b\to K^-{\cal P}_{c1,c2}, {\cal P}_{c1,c2}\to J/ψp$ processes, such that we propose that the ${\cal P}_{c1,c2}$ productions are mainly from the charmless $Λ_b$ decays through $b\to \bar u u s$, in which the $c\bar c$ content in ${\cal P}_{c1,c2}$ arises from the intrinsic charms within the $Λ_b$ baryon. We hence predict the observables related to the branching ratios and the direct CP violating asymmetries to be ${\cal B}(Λ_b\to π^-({\cal P}_{c1,c2}\to) J/ψp)/{\cal B}(Λ_b\to K^-({\cal P}_{c1,c2}\to) J/ψp)=0.8\pm 0.1$, ${\cal A}_{CP}(Λ_b\to π^-({\cal P}_{c1,c2}\to)J/ψp)=(-3.9\pm 0.2)\%$, and ${\cal A}_{CP}(Λ_b\to K^-({\cal P}_{c1,c2}\to)J/ψp)=(5.8\pm 0.2)\%$, which can alleviate the inconsistency between the theoretical expectations from the three contributions in the doubly charmful $Λ_b$ decays and the observed data.

Violation of PCAC and two-body baryonic $B$ and $D_s$ decays

We study the two-body baryonic $B$ and $D_s$ decays based on the annihilation mechanism without the partial conservation of axial-vector current (PCAC) at the GeV scale. We demonstrate that the contributions of $B^-\to Λ\bar p$, $B^-\to Σ^0 \bar p$ and $\bar B^0_s\to Λ\bar Λ$ are mainly from the scalar and pseudoscalar currents with their branching ratios predicted to be around $(3.5,\,5.3,\,5.3)\times 10^{-8}$, respectively, exactly the sizes of ${\cal B}(B\to {\bf B\bar B'})$ established by the data. We also apply the annihilation mechanism to all of the charmless two-body baryonic $B$ and $D_s$ decays. In particular, we can explain ${\cal B}(\bar B^0_{(s)}\to p\bar p)$ of order $10^{-8}$ and ${\cal B}(D_s^+\to p\bar n)$ of order $10^{-3}$, which are from the axial-vector currents. In addition, the branching ratios of $\bar B^0\to Λ\bar Λ$, $B^-\to n\bar p$, and $B^-\to Σ^- \barΣ^0$ are predicted to be $(0.3,\,3.2,\,9.6)\times 10^{-8}$, which can be measured by LHCb and viewed as tests for the violation of PCAC at the GeV scale.

Direct CP violation in $Λ_b$ decays

We study direct CP violating asymmetries (CPAs) in the two-body $Λ_b$ decays of $Λ_b\to pM(V)$ with $M(V)=K^-(K^{*-})$ and $π^-(ρ^-)$ based on the generalized factorization method. After simultaneously explaining the observed decay branching ratios of $Λ_b\to (p K^-\,,\; p π^-)$ with ${\cal R}_{πK}\equiv {\cal B}(Λ_b\to p π^-)/{\cal B}(Λ_b\to p K^-)$ being $0.84\pm 0.09$, we find that their corresponding direct CPAs are $(5.8\pm 0.2,\,-3.9\pm 0.2)\%$ in the standard model (SM), in comparison with $(-5^{+26}_{-~5},\, -31^{+43}_{-~1})\%$ and $(-10\pm8\pm4,\, 6\pm7\pm3)\%$ from the perturbative QCD calculation and the CDF experiment, respectively. For $Λ_b\to ( p K^{*-},\, pρ^-)$, the decay branching ratios and CPVs in the SM are predicted to be $(2.5\pm0.5,\,11.4\pm2.1)\times 10^{-6}$ with ${\cal R}_{ρK^*}=4.6\pm0.5$ and $(19.6\pm1.6,\, -3.7\pm0.3)\%$, respectively. The uncertainties for the CPAs in these decay modes as well as ${\cal R}_{πK,\,ρK^{*-}}$ mainly arise from the quark mixing elements and non-factorizable effects, whereas those from the hadronic matrix elements are either totally eliminated or small. We point out that the large CPA for $Λ_b\to p K^{*-}$ is promising to be measured by the CDF and LHCb experiments, which is a clean test of the SM.

Possibly New Charmed Baryon States from $\bar B^0\to p\bar p D^{0}$ Decay

We examine the invariant mass spectrum of $D^{0}p$ in $\bar B^0\to p\bar p D^{0}$ decay measured by BABAR and find that through the 2-step processes of $\bar B^0\to {\bf B_c^+}(\to D^{0} p)\bar p$, where ${\bf B_c}$ denotes a charmed baryon state, some of the peaks can be identified with the established $Σ_c(2800)^+$, $Λ_c(2880)^+$ and $Λ_c(2940)^+$. Semileptonic $B^-\to f_0(1710\,,1500\,,1370) e^-\bar ν_e$ decays

We study the semileptonic decays of $B^-\to f_0(1710\,,1500\,,1370) e^-\bar ν_e$, in which the three $f_0$ states mix with glueball, $\bar s s$ and $(\bar u u+\bar d d)/\sqrt 2$ states, respectively. By averaging the mixings fitted in the literature, we find that the branching ratios of $B^-\to f_0 e^-\bar ν_e$ are $O(10^{-6})$, $O(10^{-6})$ and $O(10^{-5})$, respectively, which can be simultaneously observed in experiments at $B$ factories. The large predicted branching rate for $B^-\to f_0(1370) e^-\bar ν_e$ would provide a clean mode to directly observe the $f_0(1370)$ state.

Identifying Glueball at 3.02 GeV in Baryonic $B$ Decays

We examine the nature of the unknown enhancement around 3 GeV observed by the BABAR collaboration in the $m_{p\bar p}$ spectrum of the $\bar B^0\to p\bar p D^0$ decay. Suspecting that the peak is a resonance, which can be neither identified as a charmonium state, such as $η_c$ or $J/ψ$, nor classified as one of the light-flavor mesons, we conclude that it corresponds to a glueball fitted as X(3020) with $(m_X,\;Γ_X)=(3020\pm 8,\; 107\pm 30)\;\text{MeV}$, which could be the first glueball state above 3 GeV. This state also appears in the $m_{p\bar p}$ spectrum of the $\bar B^0\to p\bar p D^{*0}$ decay.

We study the inert triplet models, in which the standard model (SM) is extended to have a new SU(2)L triplet scalar (Y=0 or 2) with an Z2 symmetry. We show that the neutral component of the triplet can be a good dark matter candidate. In particular, for the hypercharge Y=0 triplet model, the WMAP data favors the region where the dark matter mass is around 5.5 TeV, which is also consistent with the direct detection experiments. In contrast, for the Y=2 model, although dark matter with its mass around 2.8 TeV is allowed by WMAP, it is excluded by the direct detection experiments because the spin-independent cross section is enhanced by the Z mediated tree-level scattering process.

Semileptonic $B-\to p\bar{p} \ell-\barν_\ell$ decays

We study the four-body exclusive semileptonic baryonic $\bar B$ decays of $B^-\to p\bar p \ell^- \barν_{\ell}$ ($\ell=e,μ,τ$) in the standard model. We find that their decay branching ratios are about $(1.0, 1.0,0.5)\times 10^{-4}$, respectively. In particular, the electron mode is close to the corresponding CLEO's upper limit of $5.2\times 10^{-3}$, while all results are about one or two orders of magnitude larger than the previous estimated values for the inclusive modes of $\bar B\to {\bf B\bar B'}\ell \bar ν$. Clearly, both B-factories of Belle and BaBar should be able to observe these exclusive four-body modes.

Signatures of Dark Matter in Inert Triplet Models

In this talk, we will review the signatures of dark matter in two inert triplet models. For the first model with the hypercharge Y=0, the dark matter mass around 5.5 TeV is favored by both the WMAP data and the direct detection. In contrast, for the second model of Y=2, it is excluded by the direct detection experiments although dark matter with its mass around 2.8 TeV is allowed by WMAP.

Study of $\bar B\to Λ\bar p\,ρ(ϕ)$ and $\bar B\to Λ\bar Λ\bar K^{*}$

We examine the three-body baryonic $\bar B\to {\bf B\bar B'}V$ decays with $V$ vector mesons in the standard model. We can simultaneously explain the recent experimental data on the decays of $B^-\to Λ\bar p \,ρ^0$ and $\bar B\to Λ\bar Λ\bar K^{*}$ based on the QCD counting rules and SU(3) flavor symmetry. We also predict that the decay branching ratios of $\bar B^0\to Λ\bar p \,ρ^+$ and $B^-\to Λ\bar p \,ϕ$ are 3.0 and $1.5\times 10^{-6}$, respectively, which are promising to be observed by BELLE and BABAR at the $B$ factories.

Cosmological birefringence due to CPT-even Chern-Simons-like term with Kalb-Ramond and scalar fields

We study the CPT-even dimension-six Chern-Simons-like term by including dynamical Kalb-Ramond and scalar fields to examine the cosmological birefringence. We show that the combined effect of neutrino current and Kalb-Ramond field could induce a sizable rotation polarization angle in the cosmic microwave background radiation polarization.

Leptogenesis with Friedberg-Lee Symmetry

We consider the $μ-τ$ symmetric Friedberg-Lee (FL) symmetry for the neutrino sector and show that a specific FL translation leads to the tribimaximal mixing pattern of the Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata (MNS) matrix. We also apply the symmetry to the type-I seesaw framework and address the baryon asymmetry of the universe through the leptogenesis mechanism. We try to establish a relation between the net baryon asymmetry and CP phases included in the MNS matrix.

mu-tau symmetry in Zee-Babu model

We study the Zee-Babu two-loop neutrino mass generation model and look for a possible flavor symmetry behind the tri-bimaximal neutrino mixing. We find that there probably exists the mu-tau symmetry in the case of the normal neutrino mass hierarchy, whereas there may not be in the inverted hierarchy case. We also propose a specific model based on a Froggatt-Nielsen-like $Z_5$ symmetry to naturally accomplish the mu-tau symmetry on the neutrino mass matrix for the normal hierarchy case.

Relating Neutrino Masses by dilepton modes of Doubly Charged Scalars

We study a model with Majorana neutrino masses generated through doubly charged scalars at two-loop level. We give explicit relationships between the neutrino masses and the same sign dilepton decays of the doubly charged scalars. In particular, we demonstrate that at the tribimaximal limit of the neutrino mixings, the absolute neutrino masses and Majorana phases can be extracted through the measurements of the dilepton modes at colliders.

Constraints on the Timeon Model

The timeon model recently proposed by Friedberg and Lee has a potential problem of flavor changing neutral currents (FCNCs) if the mass of the timeon is small. In order to avoid, we introduce a small dimensionless parameter to suppress FCNCs. Even in this case, we find that the timeon mass must be larger than 151 GeV to satisfy all the constraints from processes involving FCNCs in the quark sectors. We also extend the timeon model to the lepton sector and examine the leptonic processes.

Study of $B\to Λ\barΛK$ and $B\to Λ\barΛπ$

We study three-body charmless baryonic B decays of $B \to Λ\barΛP$ with $P=π$ and $K$ in the standard model. We find that the branching ratios of the $K$ modes are about one order of magnitude larger than those of the corresponding $π$ modes unlike the cases of $B\to p\bar p P$. Explicitly, we obtain that $Br(B^-\to Λ\bar ΛK^-)=(2.8\pm 0.2)\times 10^{-6}$ and $Br(\bar B^0 \toΛ\bar Λ\bar K^0)=(2.5\pm 0.3)\times 10^{-6}$. The former agrees well with the BELLE experimental measurement of $(2.91^{+0.90}_{-0.70}\pm 0.38)\times 10^{-6}$, while the latter should be seen at the ongoing B factories soon.

Analysis of $B\to K^* \ell^+ \ell^-$ decays at large recoil

We study the exclusive decays of $B\to K^{*}\ell^+ \ell^-$ within the framework of the perturbative QCD (PQCD). We obtain the form factors for the $B\to K^{*}$ transition in the large recoil region, where the PQCD for heavy $B$ meson decays is reliable. We find that our results for the form factors at $q^2=0$ are consistent with those from most of the other QCD models in the literature. Via the decay chain of $B\to K^* (Kπ) \ell^+ \ell^-$, we obtain many physical observables related to the different helicity combinations of $B\to K^* \ell^+ \ell^-$. In particular, we point out that the T violating effect suppressed in the standard model can be up to $O(10%)$ in some CP violating models with new physics.

Study of Rare $B_c^+\to D_{d,s}^{(*) +}l\bar{l}$ Decays

We study the rare decays of $B_c^+\to D_{q}^{(*)+}l\bar{l}$ ($q=d,s$ and $l=ν_l,e,μ,τ)$ in the standard model. The form factors are evaluated in the light front and constituent quark models, respectively. We find that the decay branching ratios calculated in the two models for $B_c^+\to D^+_q l\bar{l}$ agree well with each other, whereas those for $B_c^+\to D_q^{*+}l\bar{l}$ are different.

Baryonic Rare Decays of $Λ_b\to Λ\ell^+\ell^-$

We present a systematic analysis for the rare baryonic exclusive decays of $Λ_b\toΛl^+ l^- (l=e,μ,τ)$. We study the differential decay rates and the di-lepton forward-backward, lepton polarization and various CP asymmetries with a new simple set of form factors inspired by the heavy quark effective theory. We show that most of the observables are insensitive to the non-perturbative QCD effects. To illustrate the effect of new physics, we discuss our results in an explicit supersymmetric extension of the standard model, which contains new CP violating phases and therefore induces sizable CP violating asymmetries.

The interplay between Weak and Strong Phases and Direct CP Violation from the Charmless B-meson Decays

We present a general analysis on charmless B-meson decays $B\to ππ$ and $πK$. It is noticed that the final state interactions and inelastic rescattering effects must be significant in order to understand the consistency of the current data. By using general isospin decompositions, the isospin amplitudes and the corresponding strong phases could be extracted from a global $χ^2$ fit of the experimental data. We emphasize that in general there are two, rather than one, relative strong phases in the decomposition. In the assumption of two equalstrong phases as considered in the literature, the current data, especially the ones concerning $B\to π^0 K^{0(\pm)}$decays, will imply a large isospin amplitude $|a^c_{3/2}| > 40 $, which is larger by a factor of five than the one from the naive factorization estimation. When two different strong phases are considered, all the isospin amplitudes can become, within the $1σ$-level, comparable with the theoretical values. We also show that the difference between the two strong phases cannot be too large and will be restricted by the most recent upper bound of $B\to π^0π^0$ decay. In any case, the strong phases are found to be large and the branching ratio of $B\to π^0π^0$ is likely to be enhanced by an order of magnitude in comparison with the one obtained from the naive factorization approach. Direct CP violations in all decay modes are also calculated and found to be close to the sensitivity of the present experiments.

Comments on long distance contribution to $K^+\toπ^+ν\barν$

We study the long distance contribution to $K^+\toπ^+ν\bar{ν$ by using chiral perturbation theory. We find that the tree level $O(P^2)$ contribution vanishes identically without assuming the large $N_c$ limit. The leading contribution arises from the one-loop amplitude, which is $O(P^4)$ in the chiral power counting. The branching ratio of the long distance contribution is found to be of order $10^{-7}$ smaller compared with that of short distance one and hence is completely negligible.

CP Conserving and Violating Contributions to $K_L\toπ^+π^-ν\barν$

We study both CP conserving and violating contributions to the decay $K_L\toπ^+π^-ν\barν$. We find that the decay branching ratio is dominated by the CP conserving part. In the standard CKM model, we estimate that for $m_t\sim 174\ GeV$, the branching ratio due to the CP conserving (violating) contributions can be as large as $4.4 \times 10^{-13}$ ($1.0\times 10^{-14}$).
