Evidence for Zc±Z_{c}^{\pm} decays into the ρ±ηcρ^{\pm} η_{c} final state

We study e+e−e^{+}e^{-} collisions with a π+π−π0ηcπ^{+}π^{-}π^{0}η_{c} final state using data samples collected with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies s=4.226\sqrt{s}=4.226, 4.2584.258, 4.3584.358, 4.4164.416, and 4.6004.600 GeV. Evidence for the decay $\zcpm\to\rhopm\etac$ is reported with a statistical significance of 3.9σ3.9σ with various systematic uncertainties taken into account at s=4.226\sqrt{s} = 4.226 GeV, and the Born cross section times branching fraction $σ^{B}(\EE\to \pimp\zcpm)\times \BR(\zcpm\to\rhopm\etac)$ is measured to be (48±11±11) pb(48 \pm 11 \pm 11)\,\rm{pb}. The $\zcpm\to \rhopm\etac$ signal is not significant at the other center-of-mass energies and the corresponding upper limits are determined. In addition, no significant signal is observed in a search for $\zcppm\to ρ^{\pm}\etac$ with the same data samples. The ratios $R_{\zc}=\BR(\zcpm\to ρ^{\pm} \etac)/\BR(\zcpm\to π^{\pm} \jpsi)$ and $R_{\zcp}=\BR(\zcppm\to ρ^{\pm} \etac)/\BR(\zcppm\to π^{\pm} \hc)$ are obtained and used to discriminate between different theoretical interpretations of the $\zcpm$ and $\zcppm$.

Analysis of the decay D0→KS0K+K−D^0\rightarrow K_{S}^{0} K^{+} K^{-}

Using a data sample of 2.93 fb−12.93~fb^{-1} of e+e−e^+e^- collisions collected at s=3.773GeV\sqrt{s}=3.773 GeV in the BESIII experiment, we perform an analysis of the decay D0→KS0K+K−D^0\rightarrow K_{S}^{0} K^{+} K^{-}. The Dalitz plot is analyzed using 1856±451856\pm 45 flavor-tagged signal decays. We find that the Dalitz plot is well described by a set of six resonances: a0(980)0a_0(980)^0, a0(980)+a_0(980)^+, ϕ(1020)ϕ(1020), a2(1320)+a_2(1320)^+, a2(1320)−a_2(1320)^- and a0(1450)−a_0(1450)^-. Their magnitudes, phases and fit fractions are determined as well as the coupling of a0(980)a_0(980) to KKˉK\bar{K}, gKKˉ=3.77±0.24(stat.)±0.35(sys.)GeVg_{K\bar{K}}=3.77\pm 0.24\text{(stat.)}\pm0.35\text{(sys.)} GeV. The branching fraction of the decay D0→KS0K+K−D^0\rightarrow K_{S}^{0} K^{+} K^{-} is measured using 11660±11811660\pm 118 untagged signal decays to be (4.51±0.05(stat.)±0.16(sys.))10−3(4.51\pm 0.05\text{(stat.)}\pm 0.16\text{(sys.)})10^{-3}. Both measurements are limited by their systematic uncertainties.

Cross section measurement of e+e−→η′J/ψe^+e^- \rightarrow η'J/ψ from s=4.178\sqrt{s} = 4.178 to 4.6004.600 GeV

The cross section of the process e+e−→η′J/ψe^+e^- \rightarrow η'J/ψ is measured at center-of-mass energies from s=\sqrt{s} = 4.178 to 4.600 GeV using data samples corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 11 fb−1^{-1} collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring. The dependence of the cross section on s\sqrt{s} shows an enhancement around 4.24.2 GeV. While the shape of the cross section cannot be fully explained with a single ψ(4160)ψ(4160) or ψ(4260)ψ(4260) state, a coherent sum of the two states does provide a reasonable description of the data.

Determination of strong-phase parameters in D→KS,L0π+π−D\rightarrow K^0_{S,L}π^+π^-

We report the most precise measurements to date of the strong-phase parameters between D0D^0 and Dˉ0\bar{D}^0 decays to KS,L0π+π−K^0_{S,L}π^+π^- using a sample of 2.93 fb−1^{-1} of e+e−e^+e^- annihilation data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. Our results provide the key inputs for a binned model-independent determination of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa angle γ/ϕ3γ/ϕ_3 with BB decays. Using our results, the decay model sensitivity to the γ/ϕ3γ/ϕ_3 measurement is expected to be between 0.7∘^{\circ} and 1.2∘^{\circ}, approximately a factor of three smaller than that achievable with previous measurements. The improved precision of this work ensures that measurements of γ/ϕ3γ/ϕ_3 will not be limited by knowledge of strong phases for the next decade. Furthermore, our results provide critical input for other flavor-physics investigations, including charm mixing, other measurements of CPCP violation, and the measurement of strong-phase parameters for other DD-decay modes.

Future Physics Programme of BESIII

There has recently been a dramatic renewal of interest in the subjects of hadron spectroscopy and charm physics. This renaissance has been driven in part by the discovery of a plethora of charmonium-like XYZXYZ states at BESIII and BB factories, and the observation of an intriguing proton-antiproton threshold enhancement and the possibly related X(1835)X(1835) meson state at BESIII, as well as the threshold measurements of charm mesons and charm baryons. We present a detailed survey of the important topics in tau-charm physics and hadron physics that can be further explored at BESIII over the remaining lifetime of BEPCII operation. This survey will help in the optimization of the data-taking plan over the coming years, and provides physics motivation for the possible upgrade of BEPCII to higher luminosity.

Inclusive charged and neutral particle multiplicity distributions in χcJχ_{cJ} and J/ψJ/ψ decays

Using a sample of 106 million ψ(3686)ψ(3686) decays, ψ(3686)→γχcJ(J=0,1,2)ψ(3686) \to γχ_{cJ} (J = 0, 1, 2) and ψ(3686)→γχcJ,χcJ→γJ/ψψ(3686) \to γχ_{cJ}, χ_{cJ} \to γJ/ψ (J=1,2)(J = 1, 2) events are utilized to study inclusive χcJ→χ_{cJ} \to anything, χcJ→χ_{cJ} \to hadrons, and J/ψ→J/ψ\to anything distributions, including distributions of the number of charged tracks, electromagnetic calorimeter showers, and π0π^0s, and to compare them with distributions obtained from the BESIII Monte Carlo simulation. Information from each Monte Carlo simulated decay event is used to construct matrices connecting the detected distributions to the input predetection "produced" distributions. Assuming these matrices also apply to data, they are used to predict the analogous produced distributions of the decay events. Using these, the charged particle multiplicities are compared with results from MARK I. Further, comparison of the distributions of the number of photons in data with those in Monte Carlo simulation indicates that G-parity conservation should be taken into consideration in the simulation.

Measurement of {\boldmath J/ψ→Ξ(1530)−Ξˉ+J/ψ\toΞ(1530)^{-}\barΞ^{+}} and evidence for the radiative decay {\boldmath Ξ(1530)−→γΞ−Ξ(1530)^{-}\toγΞ^-}

The SU(3)-flavor violating decay J/ψ→Ξ(1530)−Ξˉ++c.c.J/ψ\toΞ(1530)^{-}\barΞ^{+}+c.c. is studied using (1310.6±7.0)×106 J/ψ(1310.6\pm7.0)\times 10^{6} ~J/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII and the branching fraction is measured to be B(J/ψ→Ξ(1530)−Ξˉ++c.c.)=(3.17±0.02stat.±0.08syst.)×10−4{\cal{B}}(J/ψ\toΞ(1530)^{-}\barΞ^{+}+c.c.)=(3.17\pm0.02_{\rm stat.}\pm0.08_{\rm syst.})\times10^{-4}. This is consistent with previous measurements with an improved precision. The angular parameter for this decay is measured for the first time and is found to be α=−0.21±0.04stat.±0.06syst.α=-0.21\pm0.04_{\rm stat.}\pm0.06_{\rm syst.}. In addition, we report evidence for the radiative decay Ξ(1530)−→γΞ−Ξ(1530)^{-}\toγΞ^- with a significance of 3.9σσ, including the systematic uncertainties. The 90\% confidence level upper limit on the branching fraction is determined to be B(Ξ(1530)−→γΞ−)≤3.7\mathcal{B}(Ξ(1530)^{-}\toγΞ^- )\leq3.7\%.

Measurement of proton electromagnetic form factors in e+e−→ppˉe^+e^- \to p\bar{p} in the energy region 2.00-3.08 GeV

The process of e+e−→ppˉe^+e^- \rightarrow p\bar{p} is studied at 22 center-of-mass energy points (s\sqrt{s}) from 2.00 to 3.08 GeV, exploiting 688.5~pb−1^{-1} of data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider. The Born cross section~(σppˉσ_{p\bar{p}}) of e+e−→ppˉe^+e^- \rightarrow p\bar{p} is measured with the energy-scan technique and it is found to be consistent with previously published data, but with much improved accuracy. In addition, the electromagnetic form-factor ratio (∣GE/GM∣|G_{E}/G_{M}|) and the value of the effective (∣Geff∣|G_{\rm{eff}}|), electric (∣GE∣|G_E|) and magnetic (∣GM∣|G_M|) form factors are measured by studying the helicity angle of the proton at 16 center-of-mass energy points. ∣GE/GM∣|G_{E}/G_{M}| and ∣GM∣|G_M| are determined with high accuracy, providing uncertainties comparable to data in the space-like region, and ∣GE∣|G_E| is measured for the first time. We reach unprecedented accuracy, and precision results in the time-like region provide information to improve our understanding of the proton inner structure and to test theoretical models which depend on non-perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics.

Measurement of the cross section for e+e−→Ξ−Ξˉ+e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrowΞ^{-}\barΞ^{+} and observation of an excited ΞΞ baryon

Using a total of 11.0 fb−1^{-1} of e+e−e^{+}e^{-} collision data with center-of-mass energies between 4.009 GeV and 4.6 GeV and collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII, we measure fifteen exclusive cross sections and effective form factors for the process e+e−→Ξ−Ξˉ+e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrowΞ^{-}\barΞ^{+} by means of a single baryon-tag method. After performing a fit to the dressed cross section of e+e−→Ξ−Ξˉ+e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrowΞ^{-}\barΞ^{+}, no significant ψ(4230)ψ(4230) or ψ(4260)ψ(4260) resonance is observed in the Ξ−Ξˉ+Ξ^{-}\barΞ^{+} final states, and upper limits at the 90\% confidence level on ΓeeBΓ_{ee}\mathcal{B} for the processes ψ(4230)ψ(4230)/ψ(4260)→Ξ−Ξˉ+ψ(4260)\rightarrowΞ^{-}\barΞ^{+} are determined. In addition, an excited ΞΞ baryon at 1820 MeV/c2c^{2} is observed with a statistical significance of 6.2 ∼\sim 6.5σσ by including the systematic uncertainty, and the mass and width are measured to be M=(1825.5±4.7±4.7)M = (1825.5 \pm 4.7 \pm 4.7)~MeV/c2c^{2} and Γ=(17.0±15.0±7.9)Γ= (17.0 \pm 15.0 \pm 7.9)~MeV, which confirms the existence of the JP=32−J^{P}=\frac{3}{2}^{-} state Ξ(1820)Ξ(1820).

Measurement of two-particle correlations in hadronic e+e−e^{+}e^{-} collisions at Belle

The enhancement of charged-particle pairs with large pseudorapidity difference and small azimuthal angle difference, often referred to as the ``ridge signal'', is a phenomenon widely observed in high multiplicity proton-proton, proton-ion and deutron-ion collisions, which is not yet fully understood. In heavy-ion collisions, the hydrodynamic expansion of the Quark-Gluon Plasma is one of the possible explanations of the origin of the ridge signal. Measurements in the e+e−e^+e^- collision system, without the complexities introduced by hadron structure in the initial state, can serve as a complementary probe to examine the formation of a ridge signal. The first measurement of two-particle angular correlation functions in high multiplicity e+e−e^+e^- collisions at s=10.52\sqrt{s}=10.52 GeV is reported. The hadronic e+e−e^+e^- annihilation data collected by the Belle detector at KEKB are used in this study. Two-particle angular correlation functions are measured over the full azimuth and large pseudorapidity intervals which are defined by either the electron beam axis or the event thrust as a function of charged particle multiplicity. The measurement in the event thrust analysis, with mostly outgoing quark pairs determining the reference axis, is sensitive to the region of additional soft gluon emissions. No significant ridge signal is observed with either coordinates analyses. Near side jet correlations appear to be absent in the thrust axis analysis. The measurements are compared to predictions from various event generators and expected to provide new constraints to the phenomenological models in the low energy regime.

Model-independent determination of the relative strong-phase difference between D0D^0 and Dˉ0→KS,L0π+π−\bar{D}^0\rightarrow K^0_{S,L}π^+π^- and its impact on the measurement of the CKM angle γ/ϕ3γ/ϕ_3

Crucial inputs for a variety of CPCP-violation studies can be determined through the analysis of pairs of quantum-entangled neutral DD mesons, which are produced in the decay of the ψ(3770)ψ(3770) resonance. The relative strong-phase parameters between D0D^0 and Dˉ0\bar{D}^0 in the decays D0→KS,L0π+π−D^0\rightarrow K^0_{S,L}π^+π^- are studied using 2.93~fb−1{\rm fb}^{-1} of e+e−e^+e^- annihilation data delivered by the BEPCII collider and collected by the BESIII detector at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV. Results are presented in regions of the phase space of the decay. These are the most precise measurements to date of the strong-phase parameters in D→KS,L0π+π−D \to K_{S,L}^0π^+π^- decays. Using these parameters, the associated uncertainty on the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa angle γ/ϕ3γ/ϕ_3 is expected to be between 0.7∘0.7^\circ and 1.2∘1.2^\circ, for an analysis using the decay B±→DK±B^{\pm}\rightarrow DK^{\pm}, D→KS0π+π−D\rightarrow K^0_Sπ^+π^-, where DD represents a superposition of D0D^0 and D0ˉ\bar{D^0} states. This is a factor of three smaller than that achievable with previous measurements. Furthermore, these results provide valuable input for charm-mixing studies, other measurements of CPCP violation, and the measurement of strong-phase parameters for other DD-decay modes.

Observation of a cross-section enhancement near mass threshold in e+e−→ΛΛˉe^{+}e^{-}\rightarrowΛ\barΛ

The process e+e−→ΛΛˉe^{+}e^{-}\rightarrowΛ\barΛ is studied using data samples at s=2.2324\sqrt{s}=2.2324, 2.400, 2.800 and 3.080 GeV collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider. The Born cross section is measured at s\sqrt{s}=2.2324 GeV, which is 1.0 MeV above the ΛΛˉΛ\barΛ mass threshold, to be 305±45−36+66305\pm45^{+66}_{-36} pb, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The substantial cross section near threshold is significantly larger than that expected from theory, which predicts the cross section to vanish at threshold. The Born cross sections at s\sqrt{s}=2.400, 2.800 and 3.080 GeV are measured and found to be consistent with previous experimental results, but with improved precision. Finally, the corresponding effective electromagnetic form factors of ΛΛ are deduced.

Observation of a structure in e+e−→ϕη′e^+e^- \to ϕη^{\prime} at s\sqrt{s} from 2.05 to 3.08 GeV

The process e+e−→ϕη′e^{+}e^{-} \to ϕη^{\prime} has been studied for the first time in detail using data sample collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at center of mass energies from 2.05 to 3.08 GeV. A resonance with quantum numbers JPC=1−−J^{PC}=1^{--} is observed with mass MM = (2177.5 ±\pm 4.8 (stat) ±\pm 19.5 (syst)) MeV/c2{ \it{c}^{\mathrm{2}}} and width ΓΓ = (149.0 ±\pm 15.6 (stat) ±\pm 8.9 (syst)) MeV with a statistical significance larger than 10σσ. The observed structure could be identified with the ϕ(2170)ϕ(2170), then the ratio of partial width between the ϕη′ϕη^{\prime} by BESIII and ϕηϕη by BABAR is (BϕηRΓeeR)/(Bϕη′RΓeeR)\mathcal{B}^{R}_{ϕη}Γ^{R}_{ee})/{(\mathcal{B}^{R}_{ϕη^{\prime}}Γ^{R}_{ee})} = 0.23 ±\pm 0.10 (stat) ±\pm 0.18 (syst), which is smaller than the prediction of the ssˉgs\bar{s}g hybrid models by several orders of magnitude.

Partial wave analysis of ψ(3686)→K+K−ηψ(3686)\rightarrow K^{+}K^{-}η

Using a sample of (448.1±2.9)×106(448.1\pm2.9)\times10^6 ψ(3686)ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector, we perform the first partial wave analysis of ψ(3686)→K+K−ηψ(3686)\rightarrow K^+K^-η. In addition to the well established states, ϕ(1020)ϕ(1020), ϕ(1680)ϕ(1680), and K3∗(1780)K_3^*(1780), contributions from X(1750)X(1750), ρ(2150)ρ(2150), ρ3(2250)ρ_3(2250), and K2∗(1980)K^*_2(1980) are also observed. The X(1750)X(1750) state is determined to be a 1−−1^{--} resonance. The simultaneous observation of the ϕ(1680)ϕ(1680) and X(1750)X(1750) indicates that the X(1750)X(1750), with previous observations in photoproduction, is distinct from the ϕ(1680)ϕ(1680). The masses, widths, branching fractions of ψ(3686)→K+K−ηψ(3686)\rightarrow K^+K^-η and the intermediate resonances are also measured.

Search for the Decay Bs0→η′ηB_s^0 \rightarrow η^\prime η

In the Standard Model (SM) charmless hadronic decays Bs0→η′ηB_s^0 \rightarrow η^\prime η proceed via tree-level b→ub\to u and penguin b→sb\to s transitions. Penguin transitions are sensitive to Beyond-the-Standard-Model (BSM) physics scenarios and could affect the branching fractions and {\it CP} asymmetries in such decays. Once branching fractions for two-body decays Bs→ηη,ηη′,η′η′B_s \to ηη, ηη^{\prime}, η^{\prime}η^{\prime} are measured, and the theoretical uncertainties are reduced, it would be possible to extract {\it CP} violating parameters from the data using the formalism based on SU(3)/U(3) symmetry. To achieve this goal, at least four of these six branching fractions need to be measured. Only the branching fraction for Bs0→η′η′B_s^0 \to η^{\prime}η^{\prime} has been measured so far.

Improved measurement of the absolute branching fraction of D+→Kˉ0μ+νμD^{+}\rightarrow \bar K^0 μ^{+}ν_μ

By analyzing 2.93 fb−1^{-1} of data collected at s=3.773\sqrt s=3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector, we measure the absolute branching fraction B(D+→Kˉ0μ+νμ)=(8.72±0.07stat.±0.18sys.)%{\mathcal B}(D^{+}\rightarrow\bar K^0μ^{+}ν_μ)=(8.72 \pm 0.07_{\rm stat.} \pm 0.18_{\rm sys.})\%, which is consistent with previous measurements within uncertainties but with significantly improved precision. Combining the Particle Data Group values of B(D0→K−μ+νμ){\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^-μ^+ν_μ), B(D+→Kˉ0e+νe){\mathcal B}(D^{+}\rightarrow\bar K^0 e^{+}ν_{e}), and the lifetimes of the D0D^0 and D+D^+ mesons with the value of B(D+→Kˉ0μ+νμ){\mathcal B}(D^{+}\rightarrow\bar K^0 μ^{+}ν_μ) measured in this work, we determine the following ratios of partial widths: Γ(D0→K−μ+νμ)/Γ(D+→Kˉ0μ+νμ)=0.963±0.044Γ(D^0\to K^-μ^+ν_μ)/Γ(D^{+}\rightarrow\bar K^0μ^{+}ν_μ)=0.963\pm0.044 and Γ(D+→Kˉ0μ+νμ)/Γ(D+→Kˉ0e+νe)=0.988±0.033Γ(D^{+}\rightarrow\bar K^0 μ^{+}ν_μ)/Γ(D^{+}\rightarrow\bar K^0 e^{+}ν_{e})=0.988\pm0.033.

Measurement of CPCP asymmetry in the D0→KS0KS0D^{0} \to K^0_S K^0_S decay at Belle

We report a measurement of the time-integrated CPCP asymmetry in the neutral charm meson decay D0→KS0KS0D^0 \to K^0_S K^0_S using 921~fb−1^{-1} data collected at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) and Υ(5S)Υ(5S) resonances with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e−e^+e^- collider. The observed asymmetry is ACP(D0→KS0KS0)=(−0.02±1.53±0.17)%, A_{CP}(D^0 \to K^0_S K^0_S) = (-0.02 \pm 1.53 \pm 0.17) \%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. This latter uncertainty is dominated by the error of the normalisation channel. The result is consistent with Standard Model expectations and improves the uncertainty with respect to previous measurement of this quantity by more than a factor of three.

Measurement of azimuthal asymmetries in inclusive charged dipion production in e+e−e^+e^- annihilations at s\sqrt{s} = 3.65 GeV

We present a measurement of the azimuthal asymmetries of two charged pions in the inclusive process e+e−→ππXe^+e^-\rightarrow ππX based on a data set of 62 pb−1\rm{pb}^{-1} at the center-of-mass energy s=3.65\sqrt{s}=3.65 GeV collected with the BESIII detector. These asymmetries can be attributed to the Collins fragmentation function. We observe a nonzero asymmetry, which increases with increasing pion momentum. As our energy scale is close to that of the existing semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering experimental data, the measured asymmetries are important inputs for the global analysis of extracting the quark transversity distribution inside the nucleon and are valuable to explore the energy evolution of the spin-dependent fragmentation function.

Measurement of the Ds+→ℓ+νℓD_s^+ \to \ell^+ν_\ell branching fractions and the decay constant fDs+f_{D_s^+}

Using 482~pb−1^{-1} of e+e−e^+e^- collision data collected at a center-of-mass energy of s=4.009\sqrt{s} = 4.009 GeV with the BESIII detector, we measure the branching fractions of the decays Ds+→μ+νμD_s^+\toμ^+ν_μ and Ds+→τ+ντD_s^+\toτ^+ν_τ. By constraining the ratio of decay rates of Ds+D_s^+ to τ+νττ^+ν_τ and to μ+νμμ^+ν_μ to the Standard Model prediction, the branching fractions are determined to be B(Ds+→μ+νμ)=(0.495±0.067±0.026)%\mathcal{B}(D_s^+ \to μ^+ν_μ) = (0.495 \pm 0.067 \pm 0.026)\% and B(Ds+→τ+ντ)=(4.83±0.65±0.26)%\mathcal{B}(D_s^+ \to τ^+ν_τ) = (4.83 \pm 0.65 \pm 0.26)\%. With an integrated luminosity of 1074pb−11074 pb^{-1} near s=\sqrt{s} = 4.42 GeV, a significant ωχc2ωχ_{c2} signal is found, and the cross section is measured to be $(20.9 \pm 3.2 \pm 2.5)\pb$. With 567pb−1567 pb^{-1} near s=\sqrt{s} = 4.6 GeV, a clear ωχc1ωχ_{c1} signal is seen, and the cross section is measured to be $(9.5 \pm 2.1 \pm 1.3) \pb$, while evidence is found for an ωχc2ωχ_{c2} signal. The first errors are statistical and the second are systematic. Due to low luminosity or low cross section at other energies, no significant signals are observed. In the ωχc2ωχ_{c2} cross section, an enhancement is seen around s=\sqrt{s} = 4.42 GeV. Fitting the cross section with a coherent sum of the ψ(4415)ψ(4415) Breit-Wigner function and a phase space term, the branching fraction B(ψ(4415)→ωχc2)\mathcal{B}(ψ(4415)\toωχ_{c2}) is obtained to be of the order of 10−310^{-3}.

Observation of an anomalous line shape of the η′π+π−η^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-} mass spectrum near the ppˉp\bar{p} mass threshold in J/ψ→γη′π+π−J/ψ\rightarrowγη^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-}

Using 1.09×1091.09\times10^{9} J/ψJ/ψ events collected by the BESIII experiment in 2012, we study the J/ψ→γη′π+π−J/ψ\rightarrowγη^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-} process and observe a significant abrupt change in the slope of the η′π+π−η^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-} invariant mass distribution at the proton-antiproton (ppˉp\bar{p}) mass threshold. We use two models to characterize the η′π+π−η^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-} line shape around 1.85 GeV/c21.85~\text{GeV}/c^{2}: one which explicitly incorporates the opening of a decay threshold in the mass spectrum (Flatté formula), and another which is the coherent sum of two resonant amplitudes. Both fits show almost equally good agreement with data, and suggest the existence of either a broad state around 1.85 GeV/c21.85~\text{GeV}/c^{2} with strong couplings to ppˉp\bar{p} final states or a narrow state just below the ppˉp\bar{p} mass threshold. Although we cannot distinguish between the fits, either one supports the existence of a ppˉp\bar{p} molecule-like state or bound state with greater than 7σ7σ significance.

Observation of Transverse Λ/ΛˉΛ/\barΛ Hyperon Polarization in e+e−e^+e^- Annihilation at Belle

We report the first observation of the polarization of Λ/ΛˉΛ/\barΛ hyperons transverse to its production plane in e+e−e^+e^- annihilation. We observe a significant polarization that rises with the fractional energy carried by the hyperon as well as its transverse momentum. To define the production plane, we use the direction of the hyperon momentum together with either the thrust axis in the event or the momentum vector of a hadron in the opposite hemisphere. Furthermore, we investigate the contributions to the hyperon polarization from the feed-down from Σ0/Σˉ0Σ^0/\barΣ^0 and Λc±Λ_c^{\pm} decays. The cross section is measured for Q2Q^2 up to 30 GeV2^2, where Q2Q^2 is the negative of the invariant mass squared of the tagged photon, in the kinematic range 0.5 GeV < W < 2.1 GeV and ∣cos⁡θ∗∣|\cos θ^*| < 1.0 for the total energy and pion scattering angle, respectively, in the γ∗γγ^* γ center-of-mass system. Study of χ_{bJ}(1P) Properties in the Radiative Υ(2S) Decays

We report a study of radiative decays of χ_{bJ}(1P)(J=0,1,2) mesons into 74 hadronic final states comprising charged and neutral pions, kaons, protons; out of these, 41 modes are observed with at least 5 standard deviation significance. Our measurements not only improve the previous measurements by the CLEO Collaboration but also lead to first observations in many new modes. The large sample allows us to probe the total decay width of the χ_{b0}(1P). In the absence of a statistically significant result, a 90% confidence-level upper limit is set on the width at Γ_{total}< 2.4 MeV. Our results are based on 24.7 fb^{-1} of e+e- collision data recorded by the Belle detector at the Υ(2S) resonance, corresponding to (157.8\pm3.6)\times10^6 Υ(2S) decays.

An amplitude analysis of the π0π0π^{0}π^{0} system produced in radiative J/ψJ/ψ decays

An amplitude analysis of the π0π0π^{0}π^{0} system produced in radiative J/ψJ/ψ decays is presented. In particular, a piecewise function that describes the dynamics of the π0π0π^{0}π^{0} system is determined as a function of Mπ0π0M_{π^{0}π^{0}} from an analysis of the (1.311±0.011)×109(1.311\pm0.011)\times10^{9} J/ψJ/ψ decays collected by the BESIII detector. The goal of this analysis is to provide a description of the scalar and tensor components of the π0π0π^0π^0 system while making minimal assumptions about the properties or number of poles in the amplitude. Such a model-independent description allows one to integrate these results with other related results from complementary reactions in the development of phenomenological models, which can then be used to directly fit experimental data to obtain parameters of interest. The branching fraction of J/ψ→γπ0π0J/ψ\to γπ^{0}π^{0} is determined to be (1.15±0.05)×10−3(1.15\pm0.05)\times10^{-3}, where the uncertainty is systematic only and the statistical uncertainty is negligible.

Confirmation of a charged charmoniumlike state Zc(3885)∓Z_c(3885)^{\mp} in e+e−→π±(DDˉ∗)∓e^+e^-\toπ^{\pm}(D\bar{D}^*)^\mp with double DD tag

We present a study of the process e+e−→π±(DDˉ∗)∓e^+e^-\toπ^{\pm}(D\bar{D}^*)^{\mp} using data samples of 1092~pb−1^{-1} at s=4.23\sqrt{s}=4.23~GeV and 826~pb−1^{-1} at s=4.26\sqrt{s}=4.26~GeV collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring. With full reconstruction of the DD meson pair and the bachelor π±π^{\pm} in the final state, we confirm the existence of the charged structure Zc(3885)∓Z_c(3885)^{\mp} in the (DDˉ∗)∓(D\bar{D}^*)^{\mp} system in the two isospin processes e+e−→π+D0D∗−e^+e^-\toπ^+D^0D^{*-} and e+e−→π+D−D∗0e^+e^-\toπ^+D^-D^{*0}. By performing a simultaneous fit, the statistical significance of Zc(3885)∓Zc(3885)^{\mp} signal is determined to be greater than 10σσ, and its pole mass and width are measured to be MpoleM_{\rm{pole}}=(3881.7±\pm1.6(stat.)±\pm1.6(syst.))~MeV/c2c^2 and ΓpoleΓ_{\rm{pole}}=(26.6±\pm2.0(stat.)±\pm2.1(syst.))~MeV, respectively. The Born cross section times the (DDˉ∗)∓(D\bar{D}^*)^{\mp} branching fraction (σ(e+e−→π±Zc(3885)∓)×Br(Zc(3885)∓→(DDˉ∗)∓)σ(e^+e^-\toπ^{\pm}Z_{c}(3885)^{\mp}) \times Br(Z_{c}(3885)^{\mp}\to(D\bar{D}^*)^{\mp})) is measured to be (141.6±7.9(stat.)±12.3(syst.)) pb(141.6\pm7.9(\text{stat.})\pm12.3(\text{syst.}))~\text{pb} at s=4.23\sqrt{s}=4.23~GeV and (108.4±6.9(stat.)±8.8(syst.)) pb(108.4\pm6.9(\text{stat.})\pm8.8(\text{syst.}))~\text{pb} at s=4.26\sqrt{s}=4.26~GeV. The polar angular distribution of the π±π^{\pm}-Zc(3885)∓Z_c(3885)^{\mp} system is consistent with the expectation of a quantum number assignment of JP=1+J^P=1^+ for Zc(3885)∓Z_c(3885)^{\mp}.

First Observation of CP Violation in B0->D(*)CP h0 Decays by a Combined Time-Dependent Analysis of BaBar and Belle Data

We report a measurement of the time-dependent CP asymmetry of B0->D(*)CP h0 decays, where the light neutral hadron h0 is a pi0, eta or omega meson, and the neutral D meson is reconstructed in the CP eigenstates K+ K-, K0S pi0 or K0S omega. The measurement is performed combining the final data samples collected at the Y(4S) resonance by the BaBar and Belle experiments at the asymmetric-energy B factories PEP-II at SLAC and KEKB at KEK, respectively. The data samples contain ( 471 +/- 3 ) x 10^6 BB pairs recorded by the BaBar detector and ( 772 +/- 11 ) x 10^6, BB pairs recorded by the Belle detector. We measure the CP asymmetry parameters -eta_f S = +0.66 +/- 0.10 (stat.) +/- 0.06 (syst.) and C = -0.02 +/- 0.07 (stat.) +/- 0.03 (syst.). These results correspond to the first observation of CP violation in B0->D(*)CP h0 decays. The hypothesis of no mixing-induced CP violation is excluded in these decays at the level of 5.4 standard deviations.

We report a measurement of the parameter yCPy_{CP} in $\ensuremath{D^0}\xspace-\ensuremath{\overline{D}^{0}}\xspace$ oscillations performed by taking advantage of quantum coherence between pairs of $\ensuremath{D^0}\xspace \ensuremath{\overline{D}^{0}}\xspace$ mesons produced in e+e−e^+e^- annihilations near threshold. In this work, doubly-tagged $\ensuremath{D^0}\xspace \ensuremath{\overline{D}^{0}}\xspace$ events, where one DD decays to a CPCP eigenstate and the other DD decays in a semileptonic mode, are reconstructed using a data sample of 2.92\,fb−1^{-1} collected with the BESIII detector at the center-of-mass energy of s\sqrt{s} = 3.773\,GeV. We obtain yCP=(−2.0±1.3±0.7)%y_{CP} = (-2.0\pm1.3\pm0.7)\%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. This result is compatible with the current world average.

Measurement of Azimuthal Modulations in the Cross-Section of Di-Pion Pairs in Di-Jet Production from Electron-Positron Annihilation

We present an extraction of azimuthal correlations between two pairs of charged pions detected in opposite jets from electron-positron annihilation. These correlations may arise from the dependence of the di-pion fragmentation on the polarization of the parent quark in the process e+e−→qqˉe^+e^- \rightarrow q \bar{q}. Due to the correlation of the quark polarizations, the cross-section of di-pion pair production, in which the pion pairs are detected in opposite jets in a dijet event, exhibits a modulation in the azimuthal angles of the planes containing the hadron pairs with respect to the production plane. The measurement of this modulation allows access to combinations of fragmentation functions that are sensitive to the quark's transverse polarization and helicity. Within our uncertainties we do not observe a significant signal from the previously unmeasured helicity dependent fragmentation function G1⊥G_1^\perp. This measurement uses a dataset of 938~fb−1^{-1} collected by the Belle experiment at or near s≈10.58\sqrt{s}\approx10.58 GeV.

We extract the e+e−→π+π−e^+e^-\rightarrow π^+π^- cross section in the energy range between 600 and 900 MeV, exploiting the method of initial state radiation. A data set with an integrated luminosity of 2.93 fb−1^{-1} taken at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider is used. We report a measurement of the amplitude ratio rSr_S of B0→D0K∗0B^0 \to D^0K^{*0} and B0→D0ˉK∗0B^0 \to \bar{D^0}K^{*0} decays with a model-independent Dalitz plot analysis using D→KS0π+π−D\to K_S^0π^+π^- decays. Using the full data sample of 772×106772\times10^6 BBˉB\bar{B} pairs collected at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at KEKB accelerator the upper limit is rS<0.87r_S < 0.87 at the 68 % confidence level. This result is the first measurement of rSr_S with a model-independent Dalitz analysis, and is consistent with results from other analyses. The value of rSr_S indicates the sensitivity of the decay to ϕ3ϕ_3 because the statistical uncertainty is proportional to 1/rS1/r_S. The rSr_S result is obtained from observables (x±x_\pm, y±y_\pm) \begin{eqnarray} x_- &=& +0.4 ^{+1.0 +0.0}_{-0.6 -0.1} \pm0.0 \\ y_- &=& -0.6 ^{+0.8 +0.1}_{-1.0 -0.0} \pm0.1 \\ x_+ &=& +0.1 ^{+0.7 +0.0}_{-0.4 -0.1} \pm0.1 \\ y_+ &=& +0.3 ^{+0.5 +0.0}_{-0.8 -0.1} \pm0.1 \\ , \end{eqnarray} where x±=rScos⁡(δS±ϕ3)x_\pm = r_S \cos(δ_S \pm ϕ_3), y±=rSsin⁡(δS±ϕ3)y_\pm = r_S \sin(δ_S \pm ϕ_3) and ϕ3(δS)ϕ_3 (δ_S) are the weak (strong) phase difference between B0→D0K∗0B^0 \to D^0K^{*0} and B0→D0ˉK∗0B^0 \to \bar{D^0}K^{*0}. Measurement of the proton form factor by studying e+e−→ppˉe^{+} e^{-}\rightarrow p\bar{p}

Using data samples collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we measure the Born cross section of e+e−→ppˉe^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow p\bar{p} at 12 center-of-mass energies from 2232.4 to 3671.0 MeV. The corresponding effective electromagnetic form factor of the proton is deduced under the assumption that the electric and magnetic form factors are equal (∣GE∣=∣GM∣)(|G_{E}|= |G_{M}|). In addition, the ratio of electric to magnetic form factors, ∣GE/GM∣|G_{E}/G_{M}|, and ∣GM∣|G_{M}| are extracted by fitting the polar angle distribution of the proton for the data samples with larger statistics, namely at s=\sqrt{s}= 2232.4 and 2400.0 MeV and a combined sample at s\sqrt{s} = 3050.0, 3060.0 and 3080.0 MeV, respectively. The measured cross sections are in agreement with recent results from BaBar, improving the overall uncertainty by about 30\%. The ∣GE/GM∣|G_{E}/G_{M}| ratios are close to unity and consistent with BaBar results in the same q2q^{2} region, which indicates the data are consistent with the assumption that ∣GE∣=∣GM∣|G_{E}|=|G_{M}| within uncertainties.

We report an observation of the process J/ψ→γX(1835)→γKS0KS0ηJ/ψ\rightarrowγX(1835)\rightarrowγK^0_S K^0_Sη at low KS0KS0K^0_S K^0_S mass with a statistical significance larger than 12.9σσ using a data sample of 1.31×1091.31 \times 10^{9} J/ψJ/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector. In this region of phase space the KS0KS0K^0_S K^0_S system is dominantly produced through the f0(980)f_0(980). By performing a partial wave analysis, we determine the spin-parity of the X(1835)X(1835) to be JPC=0−+J^{PC}=0^{-+}. The mass and width of the observed X(1835)X(1835) are 1844±9(stat)−25+16(syst)1844\pm9(\text{stat})^{+16}_{-25}(\text{syst})~\MeV~and 192−17+20(stat)−43+62(syst)192^{+20}_{-17}(\text{stat})^{+62}_{-43}(\text{syst})~MeV, respectively, which are consistent with the results obtained by BESIII in the channel J/ψ→γπ+π−η′J/ψ\rightarrowγπ^+π^-η^{\prime}.

Observation of a neutral charmoniumlike state Zc(4025)0Z_c(4025)^0 in e+e−→(D∗Dˉ∗)0π0e^{+} e^{-} \to (D^{*} \bar{D}^{*})^{0} π^0

We report a study of the process e+e−→(D∗Dˉ∗)0π0e^{+} e^{-} \to (D^{*} \bar{D}^{*})^{0} π^0 using e+e−e^+e^- collision data samples with integrated luminosities of 1092pb−11092 \rm{pb}^{-1} at s=4.23GeV\sqrt{s}=4.23 \rm{GeV} and 826pb−1826 \rm{pb}^{-1} at s=4.26GeV\sqrt{s}=4.26 \rm{GeV} collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring. We observe a new neutral structure near the (D∗Dˉ∗)0(D^{*} \bar{D}^{*})^{0} mass threshold in the π0π^0 recoil mass spectrum, which we denote as Zc(4025)0Z_{c}(4025)^{0}. Assuming a Breit-Wigner line shape, its pole mass and pole width are determined to be (4025.5−4.7+2.0±3.1)MeV/c2(4025.5^{+2.0}_{-4.7}\pm3.1) \rm{MeV}/c^2 and (23.0±6.0±1.0)MeV(23.0\pm 6.0\pm 1.0) \rm{MeV}, respectively. The Born cross sections of e+e−→Zc(4025)0π0→(D∗Dˉ∗)0π0e^{+}e^{-}\to Z_{c}(4025)^{0} π^0\to (D^{*} \bar{D}^{*})^{0}π^0 are measured to be (61.6±8.2±9.0)pb(61.6\pm8.2\pm9.0) \rm{pb} at s=4.23GeV\sqrt{s}=4.23 \rm{GeV} and (43.4±8.0±5.4)pb(43.4\pm8.0\pm5.4) \rm{pb} at s=4.26GeV\sqrt{s}=4.26 \rm{GeV}. A neutral structure in the DDˉ∗D\bar{D}^{*} system around the DDˉ∗D\bar{D}^{*} mass threshold is observed with a statistical significance greater than 10σσ in the processes e+e−→D+D∗−π0+c.c.e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow D^{+}D^{*-}π^{0}+c.c. and e+e−→D0Dˉ∗0π0+c.c.e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow D^{0}\bar{D}^{*0}π^{0}+c.c. at s\sqrt{s} = 4.226 and 4.257 GeV in the BESIII experiment. The structure is denoted as Zc(3885)0Z_{c}(3885)^{0}. Assuming the presence of a resonance, its pole mass and width are determined to be (3885.7−5.7+4.33885.7^{+4.3}_{-5.7}(stat)±8.4\pm 8.4(syst)) MeV/c2c^{2} and (35−12+1135^{+11}_{-12}(stat)±15 \pm 15(syst)) MeV, respectively. The Born cross sections are measured to be σ(e+e−→Zc(3885)0π0,Zc(3885)0→DDˉ∗)=(77±13σ(e^{+}e^{-}\to Z_{c}(3885)^{0}π^{0}, Z_{c}(3885)^{0} \to D\bar{D}^{*})=(77 \pm 13(stat)±17\pm 17(syst)) pb at 4.226 GeV and (47±947 \pm 9(stat)±10 \pm 10(syst)) pb at 4.257 GeV. The ratio of decay rates B(Zc(3885)0→D+D∗−+c.c.)B(Zc(3885)0→D0Dˉ∗0+c.c.)\frac{\mathcal{B}({Z_{c}(3885)^{0} \to D^{+}D^{*-}+c.c.})}{\mathcal{B}({Z_{c}(3885)^{0} \to D^{0}\bar{D}^{*0}+c.c.})} is determined to be 0.96±0.180.96 \pm 0.18(stat)±0.12\pm 0.12(syst), consistent with no isospin violation in the process Zc(3885)0→DDˉ∗Z_{c}(3885)^{0}\to D\bar{D}^*.

Observation of the ψ(13D2)ψ(1^3D_2) state in e+e−→π+π−γχc1e^+e^-\toπ^+π^-γχ_{c1} at BESIII

We report the observation of the X(3823)X(3823) in the process e+e−→π+π−X(3823)→π+π−γχc1e^+e^-\to π^+π^-X(3823) \to π^+π^-γχ_{c1} with a statistical significance of 6.2σ6.2σ, in data samples at center-of-mass energies s=\sqrt{s}=4.230, 4.260, 4.360, 4.420 and 4.600~GeV collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII electron positron collider. The measured mass of the X(3823)X(3823) is (3821.7±1.3±0.7)(3821.7\pm 1.3\pm 0.7)~MeV/c2c^2, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic, and the width is less than 1616~MeV at the 90\% confidence level. The products of the Born cross sections for e+e−→π+π−X(3823)e^+e^-\to π^+π^-X(3823) and the branching ratio B[X(3823)→γχc1,c2]\mathcal{B}[X(3823)\to γχ_{c1,c2}] are also measured. These measurements are in good agreement with the assignment of the X(3823)X(3823) as the ψ(13D2)ψ(1^3D_2) charmonium state.

Observation of the Dalitz Decay η′→γe+e−η' \to γe^+e^-

We report the first observation of the Dalitz decay η′→γe+e−η' \to γe^+e^-, based on a data sample of 1.31 billion J/ψJ/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector. The η′η' mesons are produced via the J/ψ→γη′J/ψ\to γη' decay process. The ratio Γ(η′→γe+e−)/Γ(η′→γγ)Γ(η' \to γe^+ e^-)/Γ(η'\toγγ) is measured to be (2.13±0.09(stat.)±0.07(sys.))×10−2(2.13\pm0.09(\text{stat.})\pm0.07(\text{sys.}))\times10^{-2}. This corresponds to a branching fraction B(η′→γe+e−)=(4.69±0.20(stat.)±0.23(sys.))×10−4{\cal B}(η' \to γe^+e^-)= (4.69 \pm0.20(\text{stat.})\pm0.23(\text{sys.}))\times10^{-4}. The transition form factor is extracted and different expressions are compared to the measured dependence on the e+e−e^+e^- invariant mass. The results are consistent with the prediction of the Vector Meson Dominance model.

Observation of the electromagnetic doubly OZI-suppressed decay J/ψ→ϕπ0J/ψ\rightarrow ϕπ^{0}

Using a sample of 1.311.31 billion J/ψJ/ψ events accumulated with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we report the observation of the decay J/ψ→ϕπ0J/ψ\rightarrow ϕπ^{0}, which is the first evidence for a doubly Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka suppressed electromagnetic J/ψJ/ψ decay. A clear structure is observed in the K+K−K^{+} K^{-} mass spectrum around 1.02 GeV/c2c^2, which can be attributed to interference between J/ψ→ϕπ0J/ψ\rightarrow ϕπ^{0} and J/ψ→K+K−π0J/ψ\rightarrow K^{+}K^{-}π^{0} decays. Due to this interference, two possible solutions are found. The corresponding measured values of the branching fraction of J/ψ→ϕπ0J/ψ\to ϕπ^{0} are [2.94±0.16(stat.)±0.16(syst.)]×10−6[2.94 \pm 0.16\text{(stat.)} \pm 0.16\text{(syst.)}] \times 10^{-6} and [1.24±0.33(stat.)±0.30(syst.)]×10−7[1.24 \pm 0.33\text{(stat.)} \pm 0.30\text{(syst.)}] \times 10^{-7}.

Observation of the isospin-violating decay J/ψ→ϕπ0f0(980)J/ψ\to ϕπ^{0}f_{0}(980)

Using a sample of 1.31 billion J/ψJ/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, the decays J/ψ→ϕπ+π−π0J/ψ\to ϕπ^{+}π^{-}π^{0} and J/ψ→ϕπ0π0π0J/ψ\to ϕπ^{0}π^{0}π^{0} are investigated. The isospin violating decay J/ψ→ϕπ0f0(980)J/ψ\to ϕπ^{0} f_{0}(980) with f0(980)→ππf_{0}(980) \to ππ, is observed for the first time. The width of the f0(980)f_{0}(980) obtained from the dipion mass spectrum is found to be much smaller than the world average value. In the π0f0(980)π^{0} f_{0}(980) mass spectrum, there is evidence of f1(1285)f_1(1285) production. By studying the decay J/ψ→ϕη′J/ψ\to ϕη', the branching fractions of η′→π+π−π0η' \to π^{+}π^{-}π^{0} and η′→π0π0π0η' \to π^{0}π^{0}π^{0}, as well as their ratio, are also measured.

Observation of the Singly Cabibbo-Suppressed Decay D+→ωπ+D^{+}\toωπ^{+} and Evidence for D0→ωπ0D^{0}\toωπ^{0}

Based on 2.93 fb−1^{-1} e+e−e^+e^- collision data taken at center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV by the BESIII detector, we report searches for the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decays D+→ωπ+D^{+}\toωπ^{+} and D0→ωπ0D^{0}\toωπ^{0}. A double tag technique is used to measure the absolute branching fractions B(D+→ωπ+)=(2.79±0.57±0.16)×10−4\mathcal{B}(D^{+}\toωπ^{+})=(2.79\pm0.57\pm0.16)\times 10^{-4} and B(D0→ωπ0)=(1.17±0.34±0.07)×10−4\mathcal{B}(D^{0}\toωπ^{0})=(1.17\pm0.34\pm0.07)\times 10^{-4}, with statistical significances of 5.5σ5.5σ and 4.1σ4.1σ, respectively. We also present measurements of the absolute branching fractions for the related ηπηπ decay modes. We find B(D+→ηπ+)=(3.07±0.22±0.13)×10−3\mathcal{B}(D^{+}\toηπ^{+})=(3.07\pm0.22\pm0.13)\times10^{-3} and B(D0→ηπ0)=(0.65±0.09±0.04)×10−3\mathcal{B}(D^{0}\toηπ^{0})=(0.65\pm0.09\pm0.04)\times10^{-3}, which are consistent with the current world averages. The first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively.

Precision measurement of the D∗0D^{*0} decay branching fractions

Using 482 pb−1^{-1} of data taken at s=4.009\sqrt{s}=4.009 GeV, we measure the branching fractions of the decays of D∗0D^{*0} into D0π0D^0π^0 and D0γD^0γ to be $\BR(D^{*0} \to D^0π^0)=(65.5\pm 0.8\pm 0.5)%$ and $\BR(D^{*0} \to D^0γ)=(34.5\pm 0.8\pm 0.5)%$ respectively, by assuming that the D∗0D^{*0} decays only into these two modes. The ratio of the two branching fractions is $\BR(D^{*0} \to D^0π^0)/\BR(D^{*0} \to D^0γ) =1.90\pm 0.07\pm 0.05$, which is independent of the assumption made above. The first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones systematic. The precision is improved by a factor of three compared to the present world average values.

Study of e+e−→ωχcJe^+e^-\toωχ_{cJ} at center-of-mass energies from 4.21 to 4.42 GeV

Based on data samples collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at 9 center-of-mass energies from 4.21 to 4.42 GeV, we search for the production of e+e−→ωχcJe^+e^-\to ωχ_{cJ} (JJ=0, 1, 2). The process e+e−→ωχc0e^+e^-\to ωχ_{c0} is observed for the first time, and the Born cross sections at s\sqrt{s}=4.23 and 4.26 GeV are measured to be (55.4±6.0±5.9)(55.4\pm 6.0\pm 5.9) and (23.7±5.3±3.5)(23.7\pm 5.3\pm 3.5) pb, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. The ωχc0ωχ_{c0} signals at the other 7 energies and e+e−→ωχc1e^+e^-\to ωχ_{c1} and ωχc2ωχ_{c2} signals are not significant, and the upper limits on the cross sections are determined. Assuming the ωχc0ωχ_{c0} signals come from a single resonance, we extract mass and width of the resonance to be (4230±8±6)(4230\pm8\pm6) MeV/c2c^2 and (38±12±2)(38\pm12\pm2) MeV, respectively, and the statistical significance is more than 9σ9σ.

We measure branching fractions for this reaction via the neutral and charged K∗(892)K^*(892) and find them consistent with each other within the expectation of isospin symmetry. In the KKˉπK\bar{K}π invariant mass distribution a structure near the K∗(892)KˉK^*(892)\bar{K} mass threshold is observed, and the corresponding mass and width are measured to be 1412±4(stat.)±8(sys.)MeV/c21412\pm4(\mathrm{stat.})\pm8(\mathrm{sys.}) \mathrm{MeV}/c^2 and ΓΓ = 84±12(stat.)±40(sys.)MeV84\pm12(\mathrm{stat.})\pm40(\mathrm{sys.}) \mathrm{MeV}, respectively. The observed state favors an assignment to the h1(1380)h_1(1380), considering its possible JPCJ^{PC} and comparing its mass, width and decay mode to those reported in the Particle Data Group.

Study of ψ(3686)→π0hc,hc→γηcψ(3686)\toπ^0 h_c, h_c\toγη_c via ηcη_c exclusive decays

The process ψ(3686)→π0hc,hc→γηcψ(3686) \to π^0 h_c, h_c \to γη_c has been studied with a data sample of 106±4106 \pm 4 million ψ(3686)ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring. The mass and width of the PP-wave charmonium spin-singlet state hc(1P1)h_c(^1P_1) are determined by simultaneously fitting distributions of the π0π^0 recoil mass for 16 exclusive ηcη_c decay modes. The results, $M(\hc) = 3525.31 \pm 0.11 {\rm (stat.)} \pm 0.14 {\rm (syst.)}$\,MeV/c2c^2 and $Γ(\hc) = 0.70 \pm 0.28 \pm 0.22$\,MeV, are consistent with and more precise than previous measurements. We also determine the branching ratios for the 16 exclusive ηcη_c decay modes, five of which have not been measured previously. New measurements of the ηcη_c line-shape parameters in the E1E1 transition hc→γηch_c\toγη_c are made by selecting candidates in the hch_c signal sample and simultaneously fitting the hadronic mass spectra for the 16 ηcη_c decay channels. The resulting ηcη_c mass and width values are M(ηc)=2984.49±1.16±0.52M(η_c) = 2984.49 \pm 1.16 \pm 0.52\,MeV/c2c^2 and Γ(ηc)=36.4±3.2±1.7Γ(η_c) = 36.4 \pm 3.2 \pm 1.7\,MeV.

Using 2.92~fb−1^{-1} of electron-positron annihilation data collected at s=3.773\sqrt{s} = 3.773~GeV with the BESIII detector, we obtain the first measurements of the absolute branching fraction B(D+→KL0e+νe)=(4.481±0.027(stat.)±0.103(sys.))%\mathcal{B}(D^+ \to K^0_L e^+ ν_e) = (4.481 \pm 0.027(\mathrm{stat.}) \pm 0.103(\mathrm{sys.}))\% and the CPCP asymmetry ACPD+→KL0e+νe=(−0.59±0.60(stat.)±1.48(sys.))%A_{CP}^{D^+ \to K^0_L e^+ ν_e} = (-0.59 \pm 0.60(\mathrm{stat.}) \pm 1.48(\mathrm{sys.}))\%. From the D+→KL0e+νeD^+ \to K^0_L e^+ ν_e differential decay rate distribution, the product of the hadronic form factor and the magnitude of the CKM matrix element, f+K(0)∣Vcs∣f_{+}^{K}(0)|V_{cs}|, is determined to be 0.728±0.006(stat.)±0.011(sys.)0.728 \pm 0.006(\mathrm{stat.}) \pm 0.011(\mathrm{sys.}). Using ∣Vcs∣|V_{cs}| from the SM constrained fit with the measured f+K(0)∣Vcs∣f_{+}^{K}(0)|V_{cs}|, f+K(0)=0.748±0.007(stat.)±0.012(sys.)f_{+}^{K}(0) = 0.748 \pm 0.007(\mathrm{stat.}) \pm 0.012(\mathrm{sys.}) is obtained, and utilizing the unquenched LQCD calculation for f+K(0)f_{+}^{K}(0), ∣Vcs∣=0.975±0.008(stat.)±0.015(sys.)±0.025(LQCD)|V_{cs}| = 0.975 \pm 0.008(\mathrm{stat.}) \pm 0.015(\mathrm{sys.}) \pm 0.025(\mathrm{LQCD}).

Study of Dynamics of D0→K−e+νeD^0 \to K^- e^+ ν_{e} and D0→π−e+νeD^0\toπ^- e^+ ν_{e} Decays

In an analysis of a 2.92~fb−1^{-1} data sample taken at 3.773~GeV with the BESIII detector operated at the BEPCII collider, we measure the absolute decay branching fractions to be B(D0→K−e+νe)=(3.505±0.014±0.033)%\mathcal B(D^0 \to K^-e^+ν_e)=(3.505\pm 0.014 \pm 0.033)\% and B(D0→π−e+νe)=(0.295±0.004±0.003)%\mathcal B(D^0 \to π^-e^+ν_e)=(0.295\pm 0.004\pm 0.003)\%. From a study of the differential decay rates we obtain the products of hadronic form factor and the magnitude of the CKM matrix element f+K(0)∣Vcs∣=0.7172±0.0025±0.0035f_{+}^K(0)|V_{cs}|=0.7172\pm0.0025\pm 0.0035 and f+π(0)∣Vcd∣=0.1435±0.0018±0.0009f_{+}^π(0)|V_{cd}|=0.1435\pm0.0018\pm 0.0009. Combining these products with the values of ∣Vcs(d)∣|V_{cs(d)}| from the SM constraint fit, we extract the hadronic form factors f+K(0)=0.7368±0.0026±0.0036f^K_+(0) = 0.7368\pm0.0026\pm 0.0036 and f+π(0)=0.6372±0.0080±0.0044f^π_+(0) = 0.6372\pm0.0080\pm 0.0044, and their ratio f+π(0)/f+K(0)=0.8649±0.0112±0.0073f_+^π(0)/f_+^{K}(0)=0.8649\pm 0.0112\pm 0.0073. These form factors and their ratio are used to test unquenched Lattice QCD calculations of the form factors and a light cone sum rule (LCSR) calculation of their ratio. The measured value of f+K(π)(0)∣Vcs(d)∣f_+^{K(π)}(0) |V_{cs(d)}| and the lattice QCD value for f+K(π)(0)f^{K(π)}_+(0) are used to extract values of the CKM matrix elements of ∣Vcs∣=0.9601±0.0033±0.0047±0.0239|V_{cs}|=0.9601 \pm 0.0033 \pm 0.0047 \pm 0.0239 and ∣Vcd∣=0.2155±0.0027±0.0014±0.0094|V_{cd}|=0.2155 \pm 0.0027 \pm 0.0014 \pm 0.0094, where the third errors are due to the uncertainties in lattice QCD calculations of the form factors. Using the LCSR value for f+π(0)/f+K(0)f_+^π(0)/f_+^K(0), we determine the ratio ∣Vcd∣/∣Vcs∣=0.238±0.004±0.002±0.011|V_{cd}|/|V_{cs}|=0.238\pm 0.004\pm 0.002\pm 0.011, where the third error is from the uncertainty in the LCSR normalization. In addition, we measure form factor parameters for three different theoretical models that describe the weak hadronic charged currents for these two semileptonic decays. All of these measurements are the most precise to date.

The results are based on 921~fb−1^{-1} of data accumulated with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e−e^+e^- collider. Assuming CPCP conservation, we measure the mixing parameters x=(0.56±0.19−0.09+0.03−0.09+0.06)%x=(0.56\pm0.19^{+0.03}_{-0.09}{^{+0.06}_{-0.09}})\% and y=(0.30±0.15−0.05+0.04−0.06+0.03)%y=(0.30\pm0.15^{+0.04}_{-0.05}{^{+0.03}_{-0.06})}\%, where the errors are statistical, experimental systematic, and systematic due to the amplitude model, respectively. With CPCP violation allowed, the parameters ∣q/p∣=0.90−0.15+0.16−0.04+0.05−0.05+0.06|q/p|=0.90^{+0.16}_{-0.15}{^{+0.05}_{-0.04}}{^{+0.06}_{-0.05}} and arg⁡(q/p)=(−6±11±3−4+3)∘\arg(q/p)=(-6\pm11{\pm3}{^{+3}_{-4}})^{\circ} are found to be consistent with conservation of CPCP symmetry in mixing and in the interference between mixing and decay, respectively.

We measure the asymmetry AKπCP\mathcal{A}^{CP}_{Kπ} of the branching fractions of D→K−π+D \to K^-π^+ in CPCP-odd and CPCP-even eigenstates to be (12.7±1.3±0.7)×10−2(12.7\pm1.3\pm0.7)\times10^{-2}. AKπCP\mathcal{A}^{CP}_{Kπ} can be used to extract the strong phase difference δKπδ_{Kπ} between the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed process D‾0→K−π+\overline{D}{}^{0}\to K^-π^+ and the Cabibbo-favored process D0→K−π+D^0\to K^- π^+. Measurement of the branching fraction for ψ(3686)→ωK+K−ψ(3686)\toωK^+ K^-

With 1.06×1081.06\times 10^8 ψ(3686)ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector, the branching fraction of ψ(3686)→ωK+K−ψ(3686) \to ωK^+ K^- is measured to be (1.54±0.04±0.11)×10−4(1.54 \pm 0.04 \pm 0.11) \times 10^{-4}. This is the most precise result to date, due to the largest ψ(3686)ψ(3686) sample, improved signal reconstruction efficiency, good simulation of the detector performance, and a more accurate knowledge of the continuum contribution. Using the branching fraction of J/ψ→ωK+K−J/ψ\to ωK^+ K^-, the ratio B(ψ(3868)→K+K−)/B(J/ψ→K+K−)\mathcal{B}(ψ(3868) \to K^+K^-) / \mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to K^+K^-) is determined to be (18.4±3.7) %(18.4 \pm 3.7)\,\%. This constitutes a significantly improved test of the 12 %12\,\% rule, with the uncertainty now dominated by the J/ψJ/ψ branching fraction.

We report a measurement of the branching fraction B(D+→μ+νμ)=[3.71±0.19(stat)±0.06(sys)]×10−4B(D^+ \rightarrow μ^+ ν_μ) = [3.71 \pm 0.19 (\rm stat) \pm 0.06 (\rm sys)]\times 10^{-4} based on 2.92 fb−1{\rm fb^{-1}} of data accumulated at s=3.773\sqrt{s}=3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. This measurement, in conjunction with the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element ∣Vcd∣|V_{\rm cd}| determined from a global Standard Model fit, implies a value for the weak decay constant fD+=(203.2±5.3±1.8)f_{D^+}=(203.2 \pm 5.3 \pm 1.8) MeV. Additionally, using this branching fraction measurement together with a Lattice QCD prediction for fD+f_{D^+}, we find ∣Vcd∣=0.2210±0.0058±0.0047|V_{\rm cd}|=0.2210\pm 0.0058 \pm 0.0047. In either case, these are the most precise results for these quantities to date.

Search for C-parity violation in J/ψ→γγJ/ ψ\to γγ and γϕ γϕ

Using 1.06×1081.06\times10^8 ψ(3686)ψ(3686) events recorded in e+e−e^{+}e^{-} collisions at s=\sqrt{s}= 3.686 GeV with the BESIII at the BEPCII collider, we present searches for C-parity violation in J/ψ→γγJ/ψ\to γγ and γϕ γϕ decays via ψ(3686)→J/ψπ+π−ψ(3686) \to J/ψπ^+π^-. No significant signals are observed in either channel. Upper limits on the branching fractions are set to be B(J/ψ→γγ)<2.7×10−7\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to γγ) < 2.7 \times 10^{-7} and B(J/ψ→γϕ)<1.4×10−6\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to γϕ) < 1.4 \times 10^{-6} at the 90\% confidence level. The former is one order of magnitude more stringent than the previous upper limit, and the latter represents the first limit on this decay channel.

Search for the radiative transitions ψ(3770)→γηcψ(3770)\toγη_c and γηc(2S)γη_c(2S)

By using a 2.92 fb−1^{-1} data sample taken at s=3.773\sqrt{s} = 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider, we search for the radiative transitions ψ(3770)→γηcψ(3770)\toγη_c and γηc(2S)γη_c(2S) through the hadronic decays ηc(ηc(2S))→KS0K±π∓η_c(η_c(2S))\to K^0_SK^\pmπ^\mp. No significant excess of signal events above background is observed. We set upper limits at a 90% confidence level for the product branching fractions to be B(ψ(3770)→γηc)×B(ηc→KS0K±π∓)<1.6×10−5\mathcal{B}(ψ(3770)\toγη_c)\times \mathcal{B}(η_c\to K^0_SK^\pmπ^\mp) < 1.6\times10^{-5} and B(ψ(3770)→γηc(2S))×B(ηc(2S)→KS0K±π∓)<5.6×10−6\mathcal{B}(ψ(3770)\toγη_c(2S))\times \mathcal{B}(η_c(2S)\to K^0_SK^\pmπ^\mp) < 5.6\times10^{-6}. Combining our result with world-average values of B(ηc(ηc(2S))→KS0K±π∓)\mathcal{B}(η_c(η_c(2S))\to K^0_SK^\pmπ^\mp), we find the branching fractions B(ψ(3770)→γηc)<6.8×10−4\mathcal{B}(ψ(3770)\toγη_c) < 6.8\times10^{-4} and B(ψ(3770)→γηc(2S))<2.0×10−3\mathcal{B}(ψ(3770)\toγη_c(2S)) < 2.0\times10^{-3} at a 90% confidence level.

High-statistics study of K^0_S pair production in two-photon collisions

We report a high-statistics measurement of the differential cross section of the process gamma gamma --> K^0_S K^0_S in the range 1.05 GeV <= W <= 4.00 GeV, where W is the center-of-mass energy of the colliding photons, using 972 fb^{-1} of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e^+ e^- collider operated at and near the Upsilon-resonance region. The differential cross section is fitted by parameterized S-, D_0-, D_2-, G_0- and G_2-wave amplitudes. In the D_2 wave, the f_2(1270), a_2(1320) and f_2'(1525) are dominant and a resonance, the f_2(2200), is also present. The f_0(1710) and possibly the f_0(2500) are seen in the S wave. The mass, total width and product of the two-photon partial decay width and decay branching fraction to the K bar{K} state Gamma_{gamma gamma}B(K bar{K}) are extracted for the f_2'(1525), f_0(1710), f_2(2200) and f_0(2500). The destructive interference between the f_2(1270) and a_2(1320) is confirmed by measuring their relative phase. The parameters of the charmonium states chi_{c0} and chi_{c2} are updated. Possible contributions from the chi_{c0}(2P) and chi_{c2}(2P) states are discussed. A new upper limit for the branching fraction of the P- and CP-violating decay channel eta_c --> K^0_S K^0_S is reported. The detailed behavior of the cross section is updated and compared with QCD-based calculations.

Observation of a charged charmoniumlike structure in e+e- to pi+pi-J/psi at \sqrt{s}=4.26 GeV

We study the process e+e- to pi+pi-J/psi at a center-of-mass energy of 4.260 GeV using a 525 pb^{-1} data sample collected with the BESIII detector operating at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider. The Born cross section is measured to be (62.9\pm 1.9\pm 3.7) pb, consistent with the production of the Y(4260). We observe a structure at around 3.9 GeV/c^2 in the π^\pm J/psi mass spectrum, which we refer to as the Z_c(3900). If interpreted as a new particle, it is unusual in that it carries an electric charge and couples to charmonium. A fit to the π^\pm J/psi invariant mass spectrum, neglecting interference, results in a mass of (3899.0\pm 3.6\pm 4.9) MeV/c^2 and a width of (46\pm 10\pm 20) MeV. Its production ratio is measured to be R=\frac{σ(e+e- to π^\pm Z_c(3900)^\mp to pi+pi-J/psi))} {σ(e+e- to pi+pi-J/psi)}=(21.5\pm 3.3\pm 7.5)%. Observation of a charged charmoniumlike structure Z_c(4020) and search for the Z_c(3900) in e+e- to pi+pi-h_c

We study e+e- --> pi+pi-h_c at center-of-mass energies from 3.90 GeV to 4.42 GeV using data samples collected with the BESIII detector operating at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider. The Born cross sections are measured at 13 energies, and are found to be of the same order of magnitude as those of e+e- --> pi+pi-J/psi but with a different line shape. In the π^\pm h_c mass spectrum, a distinct structure, referred to as Z_c(4020), is observed at 4.02 GeV/c^2. The Z_c(4020) carries an electric charge and couples to charmonium. A fit to the π^\pm h_c invariant mass spectrum, neglecting possible interferences, results in a mass of (4022.9\pm 0.8\pm 2.7) MeV/c^2 and a width of (7.9\pm 2.7\pm 2.6) MeV for the Z_c(4020), where the first errors are statistical and the second systematic. No significant Z_c(3900) signal is observed, and upper limits on the Z_c(3900) production cross sections in π^\pm h_c at center-of-mass energies of 4.23 and 4.26 GeV are set.

Observation of a structure at 1.84 GeV/c2^2 in the 3(π+π−)3(π^+π^-) mass spectrum in J/ψ→γ3(π+π−)J/ψ\rightarrow γ3(π^+π^-) decays

With a sample of 225.3 million J/ψJ/ψ events taken with the BESIII detector, the decay J/ψ→γ3(π+π−)J/ψ\rightarrow γ3(π^+π^-) is analyzed. A structure at 1.84 GeV/c2^2 is observed in the 3(π+π−)3(π^+π^-) invariant mass spectrum with a statistical significance of 7.6σσ . The mass and width are measured to be M=1842.2±4.2−2.6+7.1M=1842.2\pm 4.2^{+7.1}_{-2.6} MeV/c2^2 and Γ=83±14±11Γ=83\pm 14 \pm 11 MeV. The product branching fraction is determined to be B(J/ψ→γX(1840))×B(X(1840)→3(π+π−))=(2.44±0.36−0.74+0.60)×10−5B(J/ψ\rightarrowγX(1840))\times B(X(1840)\rightarrow 3(π^+π^-))=(2.44\pm0.36^{+0.60}_{-0.74})\times 10^{-5}. No η′η^\prime signals are observed in the 3(π+π−)3(π^+π^-) invariant mass spectrum, and the upper limit of the branching fraction for the decay η′→3(π+π−)η^\prime\rightarrow 3(π^+π^-) is set to be 3.1×10−53.1\times10^{-5} at a 90% confidence level.

Based on (106.41±0.86)×106(106.41 \pm 0.86)\times 10^{6} ψ(3686)ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, the branching fractions of ψ(3686)→π+π−J/ψψ(3686) \to π^+π^- J/ψ, J/ψ→e+e−J/ψ\to e^+e^- , and J/ψ→μ+μ−J/ψ\to μ^+μ^- are measured. We obtain B[ψ(3686)→π+π−J/ψ]=(34.98±0.02±0.45){\cal B}[ψ(3686) \to π^+π^-J/ψ]=(34.98\pm 0.02\pm 0.45)%, B[J/ψ→e+e−]=(5.983±0.007±0.037){\cal B}[J/ψ\to e^+e^-] = (5.983 \pm 0.007 \pm 0.037)% and B[J/ψ→μ+μ−]=(5.973±0.007±0.038){\cal B}[J/ψ\to μ^+μ^-] = (5.973 \pm 0.007 \pm 0.038)%. The measurement of B[ψ(3686)→π+π−J/ψ]{\cal B}[ψ(3686) \to π^{+}π^{-}J/ψ] confirms the CLEO-c measurement, and is apparently larger than the others. The measured J/ψJ/ψ leptonic decay branching fractions agree with previous experiments within one standard deviation. These results lead to B[J/ψ→l+l−]=(5.978±0.005±0.040){\cal B}[J/ψ\to l^+l^-] = (5.978 \pm 0.005 \pm 0.040)% by averaging over the e+e−e^{+}e^{-} and μ+μ−μ^{+}μ^{-} channels and a ratio of B[J/ψ→e+e−]/B[J/ψ→μ+μ−]=1.0017±0.0017±0.0033{\cal B}[J/ψ\to e^+e^-] / {\cal B}[J/ψ\to μ^+μ^-] = 1.0017 \pm 0.0017 \pm 0.0033, which tests ee-μμ universality at the four tenths of a percent level. Search for Bottomonium States in Exclusive Radiative Upsilon(2S) Decays

We search for bottomonium states in Upsilon(2S)-> (bb-bar) gamma decays with an integrated luminosity of 24.7fb^-1 recorded at the Upsilon(2S) resonance with the Belle detector at KEK, containing (157.8+-3.6) X 10^6 Upsilon(2S) events. The (bb-bar) system is reconstructed in 26 exclusive hadronic final states composed of charged pions, kaons, protons, and K^0_S mesons. We find no evidence for the state recently observed around 9975 MeV (X_(bb-bar)) in an analysis based on a data sample of 9.3 X 10^6 Upsilon(2S) events collected with the CLEO III detector. We set a 90 % confidence-level upper limit on the branching fraction B[Upsilon(2S)-> X_(bb-bar) gamma] X \sum_i{B[X_(bb-bar)-> h_i]}< 4.9 X 10^-6, summed over the exclusive hadronic final states employed in our analysis. This result is an order of magnitude smaller than the measurement reported with CLEO data. We also set an upper limit for the eta_b(1S) state of B[Upsilon(2S)-> eta_b(1S) gamma] X \sum_i{B[eta_b(1S)-> h_i]}< 3.7 X 10^-6.

Study of e+e−→π+π−J/ψe^+ e^- \to π^+ π^- J/ψ and Observation of a Charged Charmonium-like State at Belle

The cross section for e+e−→π+π−J/ψe^+ e^- \to π^+ π^- J/ψ between 3.8 GeV and 5.5 GeV is measured with a 967 fb−1^{-1} data sample collected by the Belle detector at or near the Υ(nS)Υ(nS) (n=1, 2, ..., 5n = 1,\ 2,\ ...,\ 5) resonances. The Y(4260) state is observed, and its resonance parameters are determined. In addition, an excess of π+π−J/ψπ^+ π^- J/ψ production around 4 GeV is observed. This feature can be described by a Breit-Wigner parameterization with properties that are consistent with the Y(4008) state that was previously reported by Belle. In a study of Y(4260)→π+π−J/ψY(4260) \to π^+ π^- J/ψ decays, a structure is observed in the $M(π^\pm\jpsi)$ mass spectrum with 5.2σ5.2σ significance, with mass M=(3894.5±6.6±4.5)MeV/c2M=(3894.5\pm 6.6\pm 4.5) {\rm MeV}/c^2 and width Γ=(63±24±26)Γ=(63\pm 24\pm 26) MeV/c2c^{2}, where the errors are statistical and systematic, respectively. This structure can be interpreted as a new charged charmonium-like state.

First observation of the M1 transition ψ(3686)→γηc(2S)ψ(3686)\to γη_c(2S)

The data are used to obtain measurements of the η_c(2S) mass (M(η_c(2S))=3637.6\pm 2.9_\mathrm{stat}\pm 1.6_\mathrm{sys} MeV/c^2), width (Γ(η_c(2S))=16.9\pm 6.4_\mathrm{stat}\pm 4.8_\mathrm{sys} MeV), and the product branching fraction (\BR(ψ(3686)\to γη_c(2S))\times \BR(η_c(2S)\to K\bar Kπ) = (1.30\pm 0.20_\mathrm{stat}\pm 0.30_\mathrm{sys})\times 10^{-5}). We observe a clear signal of the η_c and measure its mass and width to be M(η_c)=(2982.7 +- 1.8(stat) +- 2.2(syst) +- 0.3(model)) MeV/c^2 and Γ(η_c) = (37.8^{+5.8}_{-5.3}(stat) +- 2.8(syst) +- 1.4(model)) MeV/c^2. The third error is an uncertainty due to possible interference between the η_c and a non-resonant component. We also report the first evidence for η(1760) decay to η' π^+ π^-; we find two solutions for its parameters, depending on the inclusion or not of the X(1835), whose existence is of marginal significance in our data. From a fit to the mass spectrum using coherent X(1835) and η(1760) resonant amplitudes, we set a 90% confidence level upper limit on the product Γ_{γγ} \BR (η' π^+ π^-) for the X(1835).

Using a data sample of 1.06×1081.06 \times 10^{8} $\psip$ events collected with the BESIII detector in 2009, the branching fractions of χcJ→pnˉπ−χ_{cJ}\to p\bar{n}π^{-} and χcJ→pnˉπ−π0χ_{cJ}\to p\bar{n}π^{-}π^{0} (JJ=0,1,2) are measured{Throughout the text, inclusion of charge conjugate modes is implied if not stated otherwise.}. The results for χc0→pnˉπ−χ_{c0}\to p\bar{n}π^{-} and χc2→pnˉπ−χ_{c2}\to p\bar{n}π^{-} are consistent with, but much more precise than those of previous measurements. The decays of χc1→pnˉπ−χ_{c1}\to p\bar{n}π^{-} and χcJ→pnˉπ−π0χ_{cJ}\to p\bar{n}π^{-}π^{0} are observed for the first time.

Measurement of gamma gamma* --> pi0 transition form factor at Belle

We report a measurement of the process gamma gamma* --> pi0 with a 759 fb^{-1} data sample recorded with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. The pion transition form factor, F(Q^2), is measured for the kinematical region 4 GeV^2 <~ Q^2 <~ 40 GeV^2, where -Q^2 is the invariant mass squared of a virtual photon. The measured values of Q^2|F(Q^2)| agree well with the previous measurements below Q^2 ~= 9 GeV^2 but do not exhibit the rapid growth in the higher Q^2 region seen in another recent measurement, which exceeds the asymptotic QCD expectation by as much as 50%.

Measurements of the mass and width of the eta_c using psi' -> gamma eta_c

The mass and width of the lowest lying S-wave spin singlet charmonium state, the eta_c, are measured using a data sample of 1.06x10^8 psi' decays collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring. We use a model that incorporates interference between the signal reaction, psi' -> gamma eta_c, and a non-resonant radiative background to successfully describe the line shape of the eta_c. We measure the eta_c mass to be 2984.3 +- 0.6 +- 0.6 MeV/c^2 and the total width to be 32.0 +- 1.2 +- 1.0 MeV, where the first errors are statistical and the second are systematic.

Observation of e+e−→ηJ/ψe^{+}e^{-} \to ηJ/ψ at center-of-mass energy sqrts=4.009sqrt{s}=4.009 GeV

Using a 478 pb−1^{-1} data sample collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring at a center-of-mass energy of s=4.009\sqrt{s}=4.009 GeV, the production of e+e−→ηJψe^{+}e^{-}\to ηJψ is observed for the first time with a statistical significance of greater than 10σ10σ. The Born cross section is measured to be (32.1±2.8±1.3)(32.1\pm 2.8 \pm 1.3) pb, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic. Assuming the ηJψηJψ signal is from a hadronic transition of the ψ(4040)ψ(4040), the fractional transition rate is determined to be B(ψ(4040)→ηJψ)=(5.2±0.5±0.2±0.5)×10−3{\cal B}(ψ(4040)\to ηJψ)=(5.2\pm 0.5\pm 0.2\pm 0.5)\times 10^{-3}, where the first, second, and third errors are statistical, systematic, and the uncertainty from the ψ(4040)ψ(4040) resonant parameters, respectively. The production of e+e−→π0Jψe^{+}e^{-} \to π^0 Jψ is searched for, but no significant signal is observed, and B(ψ(4040)→π0Jψ)<2.8×10−4{\cal B}(ψ(4040)\to π^0 Jψ) < 2.8 \times 10^{-4} is obtained at the 90% confidence level.

Using a data sample of 2.25×1082.25\times10^{8} J/ψJ/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector, we present the first observation of the decays of ηcη_{c} mesons to Σ+Σˉ−Σ^{+}\barΣ^{-} and Ξ−Ξˉ+Ξ^{-}\barΞ^{+}. The branching fractions are measured to be (2.11±0.28stat.±0.18syst.±0.50PDG)×10−3(2.11\pm0.28_{\rm stat.}\pm0.18_{\rm syst.}\pm0.50_{\rm PDG})\times10^{-3} and (0.89±0.16stat.±0.08syst.±0.21PDG)×10−3(0.89\pm0.16_{\rm stat.}\pm0.08_{\rm syst.}\pm0.21_{\rm PDG})\times10^{-3} for ηc→Σ+Σˉ−η_{c} \to Σ^{+}\barΣ^{-} and Ξ−Ξˉ+Ξ^{-}\barΞ^{+}, respectively. Decays of the chi_{cJ} states (J=0,\ 1,\ 2) to ΛΛbar\ pi^{+} π^{-}, including processes with intermediate Σ(1385), are studied through the E1 transition psi'-->γchi_{cJ} using 106 million psi' events collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII. Observation of ψ(4040) and ψ(4160) decay into ηJ/ψ

The cross section for e^+e^- \to ηJ/ψbetween \sqrt{s}=3.8 GeV/c^2 and 5.3 GeV/c^2 is measured via initial state radiation using 980 fb^{-1} of data on and around the Υ(nS)(n=1,2,3,4,5) resonances collected with the Belle detector at KEKB. Two resonant structures at the ψ(4040) and ψ(4160) are observed in the ηJ/ψinvariant mass distribution. Fitting the mass spectrum with the coherent sum of two Breit-Wigner functions, one obtains BR(ψ(4040)\toηJ/ψ)\cdotΓ_{ee}^{ψ(4040)} = (4.8\pm0.9\pm1.4) eV and BR(ψ(4160)\toηJ/ψ)\cdotΓ_{ee}^{ψ(4160)} = (4.0\pm0.8\pm1.4) eV for one solution and BR(ψ(4040)\toηJ/ψ)\cdotΓ_{ee}^{ψ(4040)} = (11.2\pm1.3\pm1.9) eV and BR(ψ(4160)\toηJ/ψ)\cdotΓ_{ee}^{ψ(4160)} = (13.8\pm1.3\pm2.0) eV for the other solution, where the first errors are statistical and the second are systematic. This is the first measurement of this hadronic transition mode of these two states, and the partial widths to ηJ/ψare found to be about 1 MeV. There is no evidence for the Y(4260), Y(4360), ψ(4415), or Y(4660) in the ηJ/ψfinal state, and upper limits of their production rates in e^+e^- annihilation are determined.

Precision measurement of the branching fractions of J/psi -> pi+pi-pi0 and psi' -> pi+pi-pi0

We study the decays of the J/psi and psi' mesons to pi+pi-pi0 using data samples at both resonances collected with the BES III detector in 2009. We measure the corresponding branching fractions with unprecedented precision and provide mass spectra and Dalitz plots. The branching fraction for J/psi -> pi+pi-pi0 is determined to be (2.137 +- 0.004 (stat.) +0.058-0.056 (syst.) +0.027-0.026 (norm.))*10-2, and the branching fraction for psi' -> pi+pi-pi0 is measured as (2.14 +- 0.03 (stat.) +0.08-0.07 (syst.) +0.09-0.08 (norm.))*10-4. The J/psi decay is found to be dominated by an intermediate rho(770) state, whereas the psi' decay is dominated by di-pion masses around 2.2 GeV/c2, leading to strikingly different Dalitz distributions.

Precision measurements of branching fractions for ψ′→π0Jψ ψ'\toπ^0 Jψ and ηJψηJψ

We present a precision study of the $\psip\toπ^0 J/ψ$ and ηJ/ψηJ/ψ decay modes. The measurements are obtained using 106×106106\times10^6 ψ′ψ' events accumulated with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII $\ee$ collider operating at a center-of-mass energy corresponding to the $\psip$ mass. We obtain $\mathcal{B}(\psip\toπ^0 J/ψ)=(1.26\pm0.02{\rm (stat.)}\pm0.03{\rm (syst.)})\times 10^{-3}$ and $\mathcal{B}(\psip\toηJ/ψ)=(33.75\pm0.17{\rm (stat.)}\pm0.86{\rm (syst.)})\times 10^{-3}$. The branching fraction ratio $R=\frac{\mathcal{B}(\psip\toπ^0 J/ψ)}{\mathcal{B}(\psip\toηJ/ψ)}$ is determined to be (3.74±0.06(stat.)±0.04(syst.))×10−2(3.74\pm0.06 {\rm(stat.)}\pm0.04 {\rm(syst.)})\times 10^{-2}. The precision of these measurements of $\mathcal{B}(\psip\toπ^{0} J/ψ)$ and RR represent a significant improvement over previously published values.

Search for hadronic transition χcJ→ηcπ+π−χ_{cJ}\toη_{c}π^{+}π^{-} and observation of χcJ→KKˉπππχ_{cJ}\to K\bar{K}πππ

Hadronic transitions of χcJ→ηcπ+π−χ_{cJ}\to η_{c}π^{+}π^{-} (J=0, 1, 2) are searched for using a sample of 1.06×1081.06\times 10^{8} ψ(3686)ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring. The $\etac$ is reconstructed with KS0K+π−+c.c.K_{S}^{0}K^{+}π^{-}+c.c. and K+K−π0K^{+}K^{-}π^{0} final states. No signals are observed in any of the three χcJχ_{cJ} states in either $\etac$ decay mode. At the 90% confidence level, the upper limits are determined to be $\BR(χ_{c0}\to η_{c}π^{+}π^{-})<0.07%$, $\BR(χ_{c1}\to η_{c}π^{+}π^{-})<0.32%$, and $\BR(χ_{c2}\to η_{c}π^{+}π^{-})<0.54%$. The upper limit of $\BR(χ_{c1}\to η_{c}π^{+}π^{-}$ is lower than the existing theoretical prediction by almost an order of magnitude. The branching fractions of χcJ→KS0K+π−π+π−+c.c.χ_{cJ}\to K_{S}^{0}K^{+}π^{-}π^{+}π^{-}+c.c., K+K−π+π−π0K^{+}K^{-}π^{+}π^{-}π^{0}, ωK+K−ωK^{+}K^{-} and ϕπ+π−π0ϕπ^{+}π^{-}π^{0} (J=0, 1, 2) are measured for the first time.

We reconstruct the DK+π−D K^+π^- state in a phase space corresponding to DK∗(892)0D K^{*}(892)^0. The CP-violating angle ϕ3ϕ_3 affects its decay rate via the interference between b→ub\rightarrow u and b→cb\rightarrow c transitions. Study of J/ψ→ppˉJ/ψ\to p\bar{p} and J/ψ→nnˉJ/ψ\to n\bar{n}

The branching fractions are determined to be B(J/ψ→ppˉ)=(2.112±0.004±0.031)×10−3\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to p\bar{p})=(2.112\pm0.004\pm0.031)\times10^{-3} and B(J/ψ→nnˉ)=(2.07±0.01±0.17)×10−3\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to n\bar{n})=(2.07\pm0.01\pm0.17)\times10^{-3}. Distributions of the angle θθ between the proton or anti-neutron and the beam direction are well described by the form 1+αcos⁡2θ1+α\cos^2θ, and we find α=0.595±0.012±0.015α=0.595\pm0.012\pm0.015 for J/ψ→ppˉJ/ψ\to p\bar{p} and α=0.50±0.04±0.21α=0.50\pm0.04\pm0.21 for J/ψ→nnˉJ/ψ\to n\bar{n}. Study of the near-threshold ωϕωϕ mass enhancement in doubly OZI suppressed J/ψ→γωϕJ/ψ\to γωϕ decays

A 2.25×108\times10^8 $\jpsi$ event sample accumulated with the BESIII detector is used to study the doubly OZI suppressed decay modes $\jpsi\toγ\of$, $ω\to\ppp$, $ϕ\to\kk$. A strong deviation (>> 30σσ) from three-body $\jpsi\toγωϕ$ phase space is observed near the ωϕωϕ mass threshold that is consistent with a previous observation reported by the BESII experiment. A partial wave analysis with a tensor covariant amplitude that assumes that the enhancement is due to the presence of a resonance, the X(1810), is performed, and confirms that the spin-parity of the X(1810) is 0++0^{++}. The mass and width of the X(1810) are determined to be M=1795±7M=1795\pm7(stat)−5+13^{+13}_{-5}(syst)±\pm19(mod) MeV/c2c^2 and Γ=95±10Γ=95\pm10(stat)−34+21^{+21}_{-34}(syst)±\pm75(mod) MeV/c2c^2, respectively, and the product branching fraction is measured to be ${\cal B}(\jpsi\toγX(1810))\times{\cal B}(X(1810)\to\of)=(2.00\pm0.08$(stat)−1.00+0.45^{+0.45}_{-1.00}(syst)±\pm1.30(mod))×10−4\times10^{-4}. %where the first error is the statistical error and the second the systematical error. Two-photon widths of the χc0,2χ_{c0, 2} states and helicity analysis for $χ_{c2}\arγγ$}
