Schatten classes and commutator in the two weight setting, I. Hilbert transform

We characterize the Hilbert--Schmidt class membership of commutator with the Hilbert transform in the two weight setting. The characterization depends upon the symbol of the commutator being in a new weighted Besov space. This follows from a Schatten class $S_p$ result for dyadic paraproducts, where $1< p < \infty $. We discuss the difficulties in extending the dyadic result to the full range of Schatten classes for the Hilbert transform.

The Two Weight Inequality for Poisson Semigroup on Manifold with Ends

Let $M = \mathbb R^m \sharp \mathcal R^n$ be a non-doubling manifold with two ends $\mathbb R^m \sharp \mathcal R^n$, $m > n \ge 3$. Let $Δ$ be the Laplace--Beltrami operator which is non-negative self-adjoint on $L^2(M)$. Then $Δ$ and its square root $\sqrtΔ$ generate the semigroups $e^{-tΔ}$ and $e^{-t\sqrtΔ}$ on $L^2(M)$, respectively. We give testing conditions for the two weight inequality for the Poisson semigroup $e^{-t\sqrtΔ}$ to hold in this setting. In particular, we prove that for a measure $μ$ on $M_{+}:=M\times (0,\infty)$ and $σ$ on $M$: $$ \|\mathsf{P}_σ(f)\|_{L^2(M_{+};μ)} \lesssim \|f\|_{L^2(M;σ)}, $$ with $\mathsf{P}_σ(f)(x,t):= \int_M \mathsf{P}_t(x,y)f(y) \,dσ(y)$ if and only if testing conditions hold for the Poisson semigroup and its adjoint. Further, the norm of the operator is shown to be equivalent to the best constant in these testing conditions.

Weighted estimates of the Bergman projection with matrix weights

We establish a weighted inequality for the Bergman projection with matrix weights for a class of pseudoconvex domains. We extend a result of Aleman-Constantin and obtain the following estimate for the weighted norm of $P$: \[\|P\|_{L^2(Ω,W)}\leq C(\mathcal B_2(W))^{2}.\] Here $\mathcal B_2(W)$ is the Bekollé-Bonami constant for the matrix weight $W$ and $C$ is a constant that is independent of the weight $W$ but depends upon the dimension and the domain.

Wavelet Representation of Singular Integral Operators

This article develops a novel approach to the representation of singular integral operators of Calderón-Zygmund type in terms of continuous model operators, in both the classical and the bi-parametric setting. The representation is realized as a finite sum of averages of wavelet projections of either cancellative or noncancellative type, which are themselves Calderón-Zygmund operators. Both properties are out of reach for the established dyadic-probabilistic technique. Unlike their dyadic counterparts, our representation reflects the additional kernel smoothness of the operator being analyzed. Our representation formulas lead naturally to a new family of $T(1)$ theorems on weighted Sobolev spaces whose smoothness index is naturally related to kernel smoothness. In the one parameter case, we obtain the Sobolev space analogue of the $A_2$ theorem; that is, sharp dependence of the Sobolev norm of $T$ on the weight characteristic is obtained in the full range of exponents. In the bi-parametric setting, where local average sparse domination is not generally available, we obtain quantitative $A_p$ estimates which are best known, and sharp in the range $\max\{p,p'\}\geq 3$ for the fully cancellative case.

A Boundedness Criterion for Singular Integral Operators of convolution type on the Fock Space

We show that for an entire function $φ$ belonging to the Fock space ${\mathscr F}^2(\mathbb{C}^n)$ on the complex Euclidean space $\mathbb{C}^n$, the integral operator \begin{eqnarray*} S_φF(z)=\int_{\mathbb{C}^n} F(w) e^{z \cdot\bar{w}} φ(z- \bar{w})\,dλ(w), \ \ \ \ \ z\in \mathbb{C}^n, \end{eqnarray*} is bounded on ${\mathscr F}^2(\mathbb{C}^n)$ if and only if there exists a function $m\in L^{\infty}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ such that $$ φ(z)=\int_{\mathbb{R}^n} m(x)e^{-2\left(x-\frac{i}{2} z \right)\cdot \left(x-\frac{i}{2} z \right)} dx, \ \ \ \ \ \ z\in \mathbb{C}^n. $$ Here $dλ(w)= π^{-n}e^{-\left\vert w\right\vert^2}dw$ is the Gaussian measure on $\mathbb C^n$. With this characterization we are able to obtain some fundamental results including the normaility, the algebraic property, spectrum and compactness of this operator $S_φ$. Moreover, we obtain the reducing subspaces of $S_φ$. In particular, in the case $n=1$, we give a complete solution to an open problem proposed by K. Zhu for the Fock space ${\mathscr F}^2(\mathbb{C})$ on the complex plane ${\mathbb C}$ (Integr. Equ. Oper. Theory {\bf 81} (2015), 451--454).

A two weight inequality for Calderón-Zygmund operators on spaces of homogeneous type with applications

Let $(X,d,μ)$ be a space of homogeneous type in the sense of Coifman and Weiss, i.e. $d$ is a quasi metric on $X$ and $μ$ is a positive measure satisfying the doubling condition. Suppose that $u$ and $v$ are two locally finite positive Borel measures on $(X,d,μ)$. Subject to the pair of weights satisfying a side condition, we characterize the boundedness of a Calderón--Zygmund operator $T$ from $L^{2}(u)$ to $L^{2}(v)$ in terms of the $A_{2}$ condition and two testing conditions. For every cube $B\subset X$, we have the following testing conditions, with $\mathbf{1}_{B}$ taken as the indicator of $B$ \begin{equation*} \Vert T(u\mathbf{1}_{B})\Vert _{L^{2}(B, v)}\leq \mathcal{T}\Vert 1_{B}\Vert _{L^{2}(u)}, \end{equation*} \begin{equation*} \Vert T^{\ast }(v\mathbf{1}_{B})\Vert _{L^{2}(B, u)}\leq \mathcal{T}\Vert 1_{B}\Vert _{L^{2}(v)}. \end{equation*} The proof uses stopping cubes and corona decompositions originating in work of Nazarov, Treil and Volberg, along with the pivotal side condition.

Maximal function, Littlewood--Paley theory, Riesz transform and atomic decomposition in the multi-parameter flag setting

In this paper, we develop via real variable methods various characterisations of the Hardy spaces in the multi-parameter flag setting. These characterisations include those via, the non-tangential and radial maximal function, the Littlewood--Paley square function and area integral, Riesz transforms and the atomic decomposition in the multi-parameter flag setting. The novel ingredients in this paper include (1) establishing appropriate discrete Calderón reproducing formulae in the flag setting and a version of the Plancherel--Pólya inequalities for flag quadratic forms; (2) introducing the maximal function and area function via flag Poisson kernels and flag version of harmonic functions; (3) developing an atomic decomposition via the finite speed propagation and area function in terms of flag heat semigroups. As a consequence of these real variable methods, we obtain the full characterisations of the multi-parameter Hardy space with the flag structure.

Sparse domination of weighted composition operators on weighted Bergman spaces in the upper half-plane

The purpose of this paper is to study sparse domination estimates of composition operators in the setting of complex function theory. The method originates from proofs of the $A_2$ theorem for Calderón-Zygmund operators in harmonic analysis. Using this tool from harmonic analysis, some new characterizations are given for the boundedness and compactness of weighted composition operators acting between weighted Bergman spaces in the upper half plane. Moreover, we establish a new weighted type estimate for the holomorphic Bergman-class functions, for a new class of weights, which is adapted to Sawyer--testing conditions. We also extend our results to the unit ball $\mathbb B$ in $\mathbb C^n$.

Weighted estimates for the Bergman projection on the Hartogs triangle

We apply modern techniques of dyadic harmonic analysis to obtain sharp estimates for the Bergman projection in weighted Bergman spaces. Our main theorem focuses on the Bergman projection on the Hartogs triangle. The estimates of the operator norm are in terms of a Bekollé-Bonami type constant. As an application of the results obtained, we give, for example, an upper bound for the $L^p$ norm of the Bergman projection on the generalized Hartogs triangle $\mathbb H_{m/n}$ in $\mathbb C^2$.

Weak-type estimates for the Bergman projection on the polydisc and the Hartogs triangle

In this paper, we investigate the weak-type regularity of the Bergman projection. The two domains we focus on are the polydisc and the Hartogs triangle. For the polydisc we provide a proof that the weak-type behavior is of "$L\log L$" type. This result is likely known to the experts, but does not appear to be in the literature. For the Hartogs triangle we show that the operator is of weak-type $(4,4)$; settling the question of the behavior of the projection at this endpoint. At the other endpoint of interest, we show that the Bergman projection is not of weak-type $(\frac{4}{3}, \frac{4}{3})$ and provide evidence as to what the correct behavior at this endpoint might be.

Ideal membership in $H^\infty$: Toeplitz corona approach

We study the ideal membership problem in $H^\infty$ on the unit disc. Thus, given functions $f,f_1,\ldots,f_n$ in $H^\infty$, we seek sufficient conditions on the size of $f$ in order for $f$ to belong to the ideal of $H^\infty$ generated by $f_1,\ldots,f_n$. We provide a different proof of a theorem of Treil, which gives the sharpest known sufficient condition. To this end, we solve a closely related problem in the Hilbert space $H^2$, which is equivalent to the ideal membership problem by the Nevanlinna-Pick property of $H^2$.

A remark on the multipliers on spaces of weak products of functions

If $\mathcal{H}$ denotes a Hilbert space of analytic functions on a region $Ω\subseteq \mathbb{C}^d$, then the weak product is defined by $$\mathcal{H}\odot\mathcal{H}=\left\{h=\sum_{n=1}^\infty f_n g_n : \sum_{n=1}^\infty \|f_n\|_{\mathcal{H}}\|g_n\|_{\mathcal{H}} <\infty\right\}.$$ We prove that if $\mathcal{H}$ is a first order holomorphic Besov Hilbert space on the unit ball of $\mathbb{C}^d$, then the multiplier algebras of $\mathcal{H}$ and of $\mathcal{H}\odot\mathcal{H}$ coincide.

Bergman projection induced by kernel with integral representation

Bounded Bergman projections $P_ω:L^p_ω(v)\to L^p_ω(v)$, induced by reproducing kernels admitting the representation $$ \frac{1}{(1-\overline{z}ζ)^γ}\int_0^1\frac{dν(r)}{1-r\overline{z}ζ}, $$ and the corresponding (1,1)-inequality are characterized in terms of Bekollé-Bonami-type conditions. The two-weight inequality for the maximal Bergman projection $P^+_ω:L^p_ω(u)\to L^p_ω(v)$ in terms of Sawyer-testing conditions is also discussed.

Lower bounds for the dyadic Hilbert transform

In this paper, we seek lower bounds of the dyadic Hilbert transform (Haar shift) of the form $\left\Vert S f\right\Vert_{L^2(K)}\geq C(I,K)\left\Vert f\right\Vert_{L^2(I)}$ where $I$ and $K$ are two dyadic intervals and $f$ supported in $I$. If $I\subset K$ such bound exist while in the other cases $K\subsetneq I$ and $K\cap I=\emptyset$ such bounds are only available under additional constraints on the derivative of $f$. In the later case, we establish a bound of the form $\left\Vert S f\right\Vert_{L^2(K)}\geq C(I,K)|\left\langle f\right\rangle_I|$ where $\left\langle f\right\rangle_I$ is the mean of $f$ over $I$. This sheds new light on the similar problem for the usual Hilbert transform that we exploit.

Two weight estimates with matrix measures for well localized operators

In this paper, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for weighted $L^2$ estimates with matrix-valued measures of well localized operators. Namely, we seek estimates of the form: \[ \| T(\mathbf{W} f)\|_{L^2(\mathbf{V})} \le C\|f\|_{L^2(\mathbf{W})} \] where $T$ is formally an integral operator with additional structure, $\mathbf{W}, \mathbf{V}$ are matrix measures, and the underlying measure space possesses a filtration. The characterization we obtain is of Sawyer-type; in particular we show that certain natural testing conditions obtained by studying the operator and its adjoint on indicator functions suffice to determine boundedness. Working in both the matrix weighted setting and the setting of measure spaces with arbitrary filtrations requires novel modifications of a T1 proof strategy; a particular benefit of this level of generality is that we obtain polynomial estimates on the complexity of certain Haar shift operators.

Two Weight Inequalities for Riesz Transforms: Uniformly Full Dimension Weights

Fix an integer $ n$ and number $d$, $ 0< d\neq n-1 \leq n$, and two weights $ w$ and $ σ$ on $ \mathbb R ^{n}$. We two extra conditions (1) no common point masses and (2) the two weights separately are not concentrated on a set of codimension one, uniformly over locations and scales. (This condition holds for doubling weights.) Then, we characterize the two weight inequality for the $ d$-dimensional Riesz transform on $ \mathbb R ^{n}$, \begin{equation*} \sup_{0< a < b < \infty}\left\lVert \int_{a < \lvert x-y\rvert < b} f (y) \frac {x-y} {\lvert x-y\rvert ^{d+1}} \; σ(dy) \right\rVert_{L ^{2} (\mathbb{R}^n;w)} \le \mathscr N \lVert f\rVert_{L ^2 (\mathbb{R}^n;σ)} \end{equation*} in terms of these two conditions, and their duals: For finite constants $ \mathscr A_2$ and $ \mathscr T$, uniformly over all cubes $ Q\subset \mathbb R ^{n}$ \begin{gather*} \frac {w (Q)} {\lvert Q\rvert ^{d/n}} \int_{\mathbb R ^{n}} \frac {\lvert Q\rvert ^{d/n}} {\lvert Q\rvert ^{2d/n} +{dist}(x, Q) ^{2d/n}} \; σ(dx) \leq \mathscr A_2 \\ \int_{Q} \lvert \mathsf R_σ \mathbf 1_{Q} (x)\rvert ^2 \; w(dx) \le \mathscr T ^2 σ(Q), \end{gather*} where $ \mathsf R_σ$ denotes any of the truncations of the Riesz transform as above, the dual conditions are obtained by interchanging the roles of the two weights. Examples show that a key step of the proof fails in absence of the extra geometric condition imposed on the weights.

A Study of the Matrix Carleson Embedding Theorem with Applications to Sparse Operators

In this paper, we study the dyadic Carleson Embedding Theorem in the matrix weighted setting. We provide two new proofs of this theorem, which highlight connections between the matrix Carleson Embedding Theorem and both maximal functions and $H^1$-BMO duality. Along the way, we establish boundedness results about new maximal functions associated to matrix $A_2$ weights and duality results concerning $H^1$ and BMO sequence spaces in the matrix setting. As an application, we then use this Carleson Embedding Theorem to show that if $S$ is a sparse operator, then the operator norm of $S$ on $L^2(W)$ satisfies: \[ \| S\|_{L^2(W) \rightarrow L^2(W)} \lesssim [W]_{A_2}^{\frac{3}{2}},\] for every matrix $A_2$ weight $W$.

Bloom's Inequality: Commutators in a Two-Weight Setting

In 1985, Bloom characterized the boundedness of the commutator $[b,H]$ as a map between a pair of weighted $L^{p}$ spaces, where both weights are in $A_p$. The characterization is in terms of a novel $BMO$ condition. We give a 'modern' proof of this result, in the case of $p=2$. In a subsequent paper, this argument will be used to generalize Bloom's result to all Calderón-Zygmund operators and dimensions.

Factorization for Hardy spaces and characterization for BMO spaces via commutators in the Bessel setting

Fix $λ>0$. Consider the Hardy space $H^1(\mathbb{R}_+,dm_λ)$ in the sense of Coifman and Weiss, where $\mathbb{R_+}:=(0,\infty)$ and $dm_λ:=x^{2λ}dx$ with $dx$ the Lebesgue measure. Also consider the Bessel operators $Δ_λ:=-\frac{d^2}{dx^2}-\frac{2λ}{x} \frac d{dx}$, and $S_λ:=-\frac{d^2}{dx^2}+\frac{λ^2-λ}{x^2}$ on $\mathbb{R_+}$. The Hardy spaces $H^1_{Δ_λ}$ and $H^1_{S_λ}$ associated with $Δ_λ$ and $S_λ$ are defined via the Riesz transforms $R_{Δ_λ}:=\partial_x (Δ_λ)^{-1/2}$ and $R_{S_λ}:= x^λ\partial_x x^{-λ} (S_λ)^{-1/2}$, respectively. It is known that $H^1_{Δ_λ}$ and $H^1(\mathbb{R}_+,dm_λ)$ coincide but they are different from $H^1_{S_λ}$. In this article, we prove the following: (a) a weak factorization of $H^1(\mathbb{R}_+,dm_λ)$ by using a bilinear form of the Riesz transform $R_{Δ_λ}$, which implies the characterization of the BMO space associated to $Δ_λ$ via the commutators related to $R_{Δ_λ}$; (b) the BMO space associated to $S_λ$ can not be characterized by commutators related to $R_{S_λ}$, which implies that $H^1_{S_λ}$ does not have a weak factorization via a bilinear form of the Riesz transform $R_{S_λ}$.

Thin Sequences and Their Role in Model Spaces and Douglas Algebras

We study thin interpolating sequences $\{λ_n\}$ and their relationship to interpolation in the Hardy space $H^2$ and the model spaces $K_Θ= H^2 \ominus ΘH^2$, where $Θ$ is an inner function. Our results, phrased in terms of the functions that do the interpolation as well as Carleson measures, show that under the assumption that $Θ(λ_n) \to 0$ the interpolation properties in $H^2$ are essentially the same as those in $K_Θ$.

Two Weight Inequalities for Iterated Commutators with Calderón-Zygmund Operators

Given a Calderón-Zygmund operator $T$, a classic result of Coifman-Rochberg-Weiss relates the norm of the commutator $[b, T]$ with the BMO norm of $b$. We focus on a weighted version of this result, obtained by Bloom and later generalized by Lacey and the authors, which relates $\| [b, T] : L^p(\mathbb{R}^n; μ) \to L^p(\mathbb{R}^n; λ) \|$ to the norm of $b$ in a certain weighted BMO space determined by $A_p$ weights $μ$ and $λ$. We extend this result to higher iterates of the commutator and recover a one-weight result of Chung-Pereyra-Perez in the process.

Well-Localized Operators on Matrix Weighted $L^2$ Spaces

Nazarov-Treil-Volberg recently proved an elegant two-weight T1 theorem for "almost diagonal" operators that played a key role in the proof of the $A_2$ conjecture for dyadic shifts and related operators. In this paper, we obtain a generalization of their T1 theorem to the setting of matrix weights. Our theorem does differ slightly from the scalar results, a fact attributable almost completely to differences between the scalar and matrix Carleson Embedding Theorems. The main tools include a reduction to the study of well-localized operators, a new system of Haar functions adapted to matrix weights, and a matrix Carleson Embedding Theorem.

Localization and Compactness in Bergman and Fock spaces

In this paper we study the compactness of operators on the Bergman space of the unit ball and on very generally weighted Bargmann-Fock spaces in terms of the behavior of their Berezin transforms and the norms of the operators acting on reproducing kernels. In particular, in the Bergman space setting we show how a vanishing Berezin transform combined with certain (integral) growth conditions on an operator $T$ are sufficient to imply that the operator is compact. In the weighted Bargmann-Fock space setting we show that the reproducing kernel thesis for compactness holds for operators satisfying similar growth conditions. The main results extend the results of Xia and Zheng to the case of the Bergman space when $1 < p < \infty$, and in the weighted Bargmann-Fock space setting, our results provide new, more general conditions that imply the work of Xia and Zheng via a more familiar approach that can also handle the $1 < p < \infty$ case.

The Essential Norm of Operators on the Bergman Space of Vector--Valued Functions on the Unit Ball

Let $A_α^{p}(\mathbb{B}^n;\mathbb{C}^d)$ be the weighted Bergman space on the unit ball $\mathbb{B}^n$ of $\mathbb{C}^n$ of functions taking values in $\mathbb{C}^d$. For $1<p<\infty$ let $\mathcal{T}_{p,α}$ be the algebra generated by finite sums of finite products of Toeplitz operators with bounded matrix--valued symbols (this is called the Toeplitz algebra in the case $d=1$). We show that every $S\in \mathcal{T}_{p,α}$ can be approximated by localized operators. This will be used to obtain several equivalent expressions for the essential norm of operators in $\mathcal{T}_{p,α}$. We then use this to characterize compact operators in $A_α^{p}(\mathbb{B}^n;\mathbb{C}^d)$. The main result generalizes previous results and states that an operator in $A_α^{p}(\mathbb{B}^n;\mathbb{C}^d)$ is compact if only if it is in $\mathcal{T}_{p,α}$ and its Berezin transform vanishes on the boundary.

The Linear Bound for Haar Multiplier Paraproducts

We study the natural resolution of the conjugated Haar multiplier $M_{w^{\frac{1}{2}}}T_σM_{w^{-\frac{1}{2}}},$ where the multiplication operators $M_{w^{\pm\frac{1}{2}}}$ are decomposed into their canonical paraproduct decompositions. We prove that each constituent operator obtained from this resolution has a linear bound on $L^2(\mathbb{R}^d;w)$ in terms of the $A_{2}$ characteristic of $w$. The main tools used are a product formula for Haar coefficients, the Carleson Embedding Theorem, the linear bound for the square function, and the well-known linear bound of $T_σ$ on $L^2(\mathbb{R}^d,w).$

Thin sequences and the Gram matrix

In the same paper, Volberg characterized sequences for which the Gram matrix is a compact perturbation of a unitary as well as those for which the Gram matrix is a Schatten-$2$ class perturbation of a unitary operator. We extend this characterization from $2$ to $p$, where $2 \le p \le \infty$.

On the uniqueness sets in the Fock space

It was known to von Neumann in the 1950's that the integer lattice $\mathbb{Z}^2$ forms a uniqueness set for the Bargmann-Fock space. We show in this paper that the uniqueness sets for the Fock space are preserved under much more general perturbations.

Bergman-type Singular Operators and the Characterization of Carleson Measures for Besov--Sobolev Spaces on the Complex Ball

The purposes of this paper are two fold. First, we extend the method of non-homogeneous harmonic analysis of Nazarov, Treil and Volberg to handle "Bergman--type" singular integral operators. The canonical example of such an operator is the Beurling transform on the unit disc. Second, we use the methods developed in this paper to settle the important open question about characterizing the Carleson measures for the Besov--Sobolev space of analytic functions $B^σ_2$ on the complex ball of $\mathbb{C}^d$. In particular, we demonstrate that for any $σ> 0$, the Carleson measures for the space are characterized by a "T1 Condition". The method of proof of these results is an extension and another application of the work originated by Nazarov, Treil and the first author.

Bergman-type Singular Integral Operators on Metric Spaces

In this paper we study ``Bergman-type'' singular integral operators on Ahlfors regular metric spaces. The main result of the paper demonstrates that if a singular integral operator on a Ahlfors regular metric space satisfies an additional estimate, then knowing the ``T(1)'' conditions for the operator imply that the operator is bounded on $L^2$. BMO Estimates for the $H^{\infty}(\mathbb{B}_n)$ Corona Problem

We study the $H^{\infty}(\mathbb{B}_{n})$ Corona problem $\sum_{j=1}^{N}f_{j}g_{j}=h$ and show it is always possible to find solutions $f$ that belong to $BMOA(\mathbb{B}_{n})$ for any $n>1$, including infinitely many generators $N$. This theorem improves upon both a 2000 result of Andersson and Carlsson and the classical 1977 result of Varopoulos. The former result obtains solutions for strictly pseudoconvex domains in the larger space $H^{\infty}\cdot BMOA$ with $N=\infty $, while the latter result obtains $BMOA(\mathbb{B}_{n})$ solutions for just N=2 generators with $h=1$. Our method of proof is to solve $\overline{\partial}$-problems and to exploit the connection between $BMO$ functions and Carleson measures for $H^{2}(\mathbb{B}_{n})$. Key to this is the exact structure of the kernels that solve the $\overline{\partial}$ equation for $(0,q)$ forms, as well as new estimates for iterates of these operators. A generalization to multiplier algebras of Besov-Sobolev spaces is also given.

Given a holomorphic symbol function $b$ we define the associated Hankel type bilinear form, initially for polynomials f and g, by $T_{b}(f,g):= < fg,b >_{\mathcal{D}} $, where we are looking at the inner product in the space $\mathcal{D}$. We let the norm of $T_{b}$ denotes its norm as a bilinear map from $\mathcal{D}\times\mathcal{D}$ to the complex numbers. We say a function $b$ is in the space $\mathcal{X}$ if the measure $dμ_{b}:=| b^{\prime}(z)| ^{2}dA$ is a Carleson measure for $\mathcal{D}$ and norm $\mathcal{X}$ by $$ \Vert b\Vert_{\mathcal{X}}:=| b(0)| +\Vert | b^{\prime}(z)| ^{2}dA\Vert_{CM(\mathcal{D})}^{1/2}. $$ Our main result is $T_{b}$ is bounded if and only if $b\in\mathcal{X}$ and $$ \Vert T_{b}\Vert_{\mathcal{D\times D}}\approx\Vert b\Vert_{\mathcal{X}}. $$

Simultaneous Stabilization in $A_\mathbb{R}(\mathbb{D})$

In this note we study the problem of simultaneous stabilization for the algebra $A_\R(\D)$. Invertible pairs $(f_j,g_j)$, $j=1,..., n$, in a commutative unital algebra are called \textit{simultaneously stabilizable} if there exists a pair $(α,β)$ of elements such that $αf_j+βg_j$ is invertible in this algebra for $j=1,..., n$. For $n=2$, the simultaneous stabilization problem admits a positive solution for any data if and only if the Bass stable rank of the algebra is one. Since $A_\R(\D)$ has stable rank two, we are faced here with a different situation. When $n=2$, necessary and sufficient conditions are given so that we have simultaneous stability in $A_\R(\D)$. For $n\geq 3$ we show that under these conditions simultaneous stabilization is not possible and further connect this result to the question of which pairs $(f,g)$ in $A_\R(\D)^2$ are totally reducible; that is, for which pairs do there exist two units $u$ and $v$ in $A_\R(\D)$ such that $uf+vg=1$.

The Bass and Topological Stable Ranks of $H^\infty_\R(\D)$ and $A_\R(\D)$

In this note we prove that the Bass stable rank of $H^\infty_\R(\D)$ is two. This establishes the validity of a conjecture by S. Treil. We accomplish this in two different ways, one by giving a direct proof, and the other, by first showing that the topological stable rank of $H^\infty_\R(\D)$ is two. We apply these results to give new proofs of results by R. Rupp and A. Sasane stating that the Bass stable rank of $A_\R(\D)$ is two and the topological stable rank of $A_\R(\D)$ is two, settling a conjecture by the second author. We also present a $\bar\partial$-free proof of the second author's characterization of the reducible pairs in $A_\R(\D)$.

The Corona theorem and stable rank for the algebra $\mC +BH^\infty$

Let $B$ be a Blaschke product. We prove in several different ways the corona theorem for the algebra $H^\infty_B:=\mC+BH^\infty$. That is, we show the equivalence of the classical {\em corona condition} on data $f_1, ..., f_n \in H^\infty_B$: \[ \forall z \in \mD, \sum_{k=1}^{n} |f_k(z)| \geq δ>0, \] and the {\em solvability of the Bezout equation} for $g_1, ..., g_n \in H^\infty_B$: \[ \forall z\in \mD, \sum_{k=1}^n g_k (z)f_k(z)=1. \] Estimates on solutions to the Bezout equation are also obtained. We also show that the Bass stable rank of $H^\infty_B$ is 1. Let $A(\mD)_B$ be the subalgebra of all elements from $H^\infty_B$ having a continuous extension to the closed unit disk $\bar{\mD}$. Analogous results are obtained also for $A(\mD)_B$.

A Note about Stabilization in $A_\R(\D)$

It is shown that for $A_\R(\D)$ functions $f_1$ and $f_2$ with $$ \inf_{z\in\bar{\D}}(\abs{f_1(z)}+\abs{f_2(z)})\geqδ>0 $$ and $f_1$ being positive on real zeros of $f_2$ then there exists $A_\R(\D)$ functions $g_2$ and $g_1,g_1^{-1}$ with and $$ g_1f_1+g_2f_2=1\quad\forall z\in\bar{\D}. $$ This result is connected to the computation of the stable rank of the algebra $A_\R(\D)$ and to Control Theory.

A Weighted Estimate for the Square Function on the Unit Ball in $\C^n$

We show that the Lusin area integral or the square function on the unit ball of $\C^n$, regarded as an operator in weighted space $L^2(w)$ has a linear bound in terms of the invariant $A_2$ characteristic of the weight. We show a dimension-free estimate for the ``area-integral'' associated to the weighted $L^2(w)$ norm of the square function. We prove the equivalence of the classical and the invariant $A_2$ classes.

Carleson Potentials and the Reproducing Kernel Thesis for Embedding Theorems

In this note we present a new proof of the Carleson Embedding Theorem on the unit disc and unit ball. The only technical tool used in the proof of this fact is Green's formula. The starting point is that every Carleson measure gives rise to a bounded subharmonic function. Using this function we construct a new related Carleson measure that allows for a simple embedding. In the case of the disc this gives the best known constant, with the previous best given by N. Nikolskii.
