New solutions of Isochronous potentials in terms of exceptional orthogonal polynomials in heterostructures

Point canonical transformation (PCT) has been used to find out new exactly solvable potentials in the position-dependent mass (PDM) framework. We solve $1$-D Schrödinger equation in the PDM framework by considering two different fairly generic position-dependent masses $ (i) M(x)=λg'(x)$ and $(ii) M(x) = c \left( {g'(x)} \right)^ν$, $ν=\frac{2η}{2η+1},$ with $η= 0,1,2\cdots $. In the first case, we find new exactly solvable potentials that depend on an integer parameter $m$, and the corresponding solutions are written in terms of $X_m$-Laguerre polynomials. In the latter case, we obtain a new one parameter $(ν)$ family of isochronous solvable potentials whose bound states are written in terms of $X_m$-Laguerre polynomials. Further, we show that the new potentials are shape invariant by using the supersymmetric approach in the framework of PDM.

BFV quantization and BRST symmetries of the gauge invariant fourth-order Pais-Uhlenbeck oscillator

We perform the BFV-BRST quantization of the fourth-order Pais-Uhlenbeck oscillator (PUO). We show that although the PUO is not naturally constrained in the sense of Dirac-Bergmann, it is possible to profit from the introduction of suitable constraints in phase space in order to obtain a proper BRST invariant quantum system. Starting from its second-class constrained system description, we use the BFFT conversional approach to obtain first-class constraints as gauge symmetry generators. After the Abelianization of the constraints, we obtain the conserved BRST charge, the corresponding BRST transformations and proceed further to the BFV functional quantization of the model. We show that different possible gauge choices can be connected by finite field-dependent BRST transformations.

BRST symmetry as a mechanism for confinement in the inter gauge framework

The finite field dependent BRST (FFBRST) technique generally interrelates two different gauge fixed theories. Here we propose a new and unique FFBRST transformation that transforms the effective theory in Lorenz gauge, which represents perturbative or deconfined phase of QCD to massive gauge theory. The exercise serves two purposes. First is of course that it is a distinct connection where one of the theories is not gauge fixed and BRST invariant therefore, it is expected to give newer insights into FFBRST technique itself. Second is that a particular case of this transformation holds a novel physical significance of acting as general mechanism for confinement across two different gauge theories. Thus, the present task identifies a profound non-perturbative implication of the BRST symmetry in a general setting.

Quantum tunneling from family of Cantor potentials in fractional quantum mechanics

We explore the features of non-relativistic quantum tunneling in space fractional quantum mechanics through a family of Cantor potentials. We consider two types of potentials: general Cantor and general Smith-Volterra-Cantor potential. The Cantor potential is an example of fractal potential while the Smith-Volterra-Cantor potential doesn't belong to the category of a fractal system. The present study brings for the first time, the study of quantum tunneling through fractal potential in fractional quantum mechanics. We report several new features of scattering in the domain of space fractional quantum mechanics including the emergence of energy-band like features from these systems and extremely sharp transmission features. Further the scaling relation of the scattering amplitude with wave vector $k$ is presented analytically for both types of potentials.

Supersymmetry and Shape Invariance of exceptional orthogonal polynomials

We discuss the exceptional Laguerre and the exceptional Jacobi orthogonal polynomials in the framework of the supersymmetric quantum mechanics (SUSYQM). We express the differential equations for the Jacobi and the Laguerre exceptional orthogonal polynomials (EOP) as the eigenvalue equations and make an analogy with the time independent Schrödinger equation to define "Hamiltonians" enables us to study the EOPs in the framework of the SUSYQM and to realize the underlying shape invariance associated with such systems. We show that the underlying shape invariance symmetry is responsible for the solubility of the differential equations associated with these polynomials.

Locally finite free space as limiting case of PT-symmetric medium

We explicitly prove that the transfer matrix of a finite layered $PT$-symmetric system of fix length $L$ consisting of $N$ units of the potential system `$+iV$' and `$-iV$' of equal thickness becomes a unit matrix in the limit $N \rightarrow \infty$. This result is true for waves of arbitrary wave vector $k$. This shows that in this limit, the transmission coefficient is always unity while the reflection amplitude is zero for all waves traversing this length $L$. Therefore, a free space of finite length $L$ can be represented as a $PT$-symmetric medium.

One parameter family of rationally extended isospectral potentials

We start from a given one dimensional rationally extended potential associated with $X_m$ exceptional orthogonal polynomials and using the idea of supersymmetry in quantum mechanics, we obtain one continuous parameter ($λ$) family of rationally extended strictly isospectral potentials whose solutions are also associated with Xm exceptional orthogonal polynomials. We illustrate this construction by considering three well known rationally extended potentials, two with pure discrete spectrum (the extended radial oscillator and the extended Scarf-I) and one with both the discrete and the continuous spectrum (the extended generalized Poschl-Teller) and explicitly construct the corresponding one continuous parameter family of rationally extended strictly isospectral potentials. Further, in the special case of $λ= 0$ and $-1$, we obtain two new exactly solvable rationally extended potentials, namely the rationally extended Pursey and the rationally extended Abhrahm-Moses potentials respectively. We illustrate the whole procedure by discussing in detail the particular case of the $X_1$ rationally extended one parameter family of potentials including the corresponding Pursey and the Abraham Moses potentials.

New scattering features of quaternionic point interaction in non-Hermitian quantum mechanics

The spectral singularity have been extensively studied over the last one and half decade for different non-Hermitian potentials in non-Hermitian quantum mechanics. The nature of spectral singularities have not been studied for the case of quaternionic potential. In the present work we perform an analytical study for the scattering from a quaternionic point interaction represented by delta function. New features of spectral singularities are observed which are different than the case of complex (non-quaternionic) point interaction. Most notable difference is the occurrence of spectral singularity from lossy point interaction which is forbidden in the case of standard non-Hermitian quantum mechanics.

Comments on interactions in the SUSY models

We consider special supersymmetry (SUSY) transformations with $m$ generators $\overleftarrow{s}_{α}$ for a certain class of models and study some physical consequences of Grassmann-odd transformations which form an Abelian supergroup with finite parameters and respective group-like elements being functionals of field variables. The SUSY-invariant path integral measure within conventional quantization implies the appearance, under a change of variables related to such SUSY transformations, of a Jacobian which is explicitly calculated. The Jacobian implies, first of all, the appearance of trivial interactions in the transformed action, and, second, the presence of a modified Ward identity which reduces to the standard Ward identities in the case of constant parameters. We examine the case of ${N}=1$ and $N=2$ supersymmetric harmonic oscillators to illustrate the general concept by a simple free model with $(1,1)$ physical degrees of freedom. It is shown that the interaction terms $U_{tr}$ have a corresponding SUSY-exact form: $U_{tr}=% \big(V_{(1)}\overleftarrow{s};V_{(2)}\overleftarrow{\bar{s}}\overleftarrow{s}% \big)$ naturally generated in this generalized formulation. We argue that the case of non-trivial interactions cannot be obtained in such a way.

Green's Function of a General PT-Symmetric Non-Hermitian Non-central Potential

We study the path integral solution of a system of particle moving in certain class of PT symmetric non-Hermitian and non-central potential. The Hamil- tonian of the system is converted to a separable Hamiltonian of Liouville type in parabolic coordinates and is further mapped into a Hamiltonian corresponding to two 2-dimensional simple harmonic oscillators (SHOs). Thus the explicit Green's functions for a general non-central PT symmetric non hermitian potential are cal- culated in terms of that of 2d SHOs. The entire spectrum for this three dimensional system is shown to be always real leading to the fact that the system remains in unbroken PT phase all the time.

Imaginary Interactions with Minimum Length

We analyze the effect of having minimum length on a two dimensional anisotropic simple harmonic oscillator with PT symmetric imaginary interaction perturbatively. First order correction to the general state is calculated analytically to show that it remains real as long as PT symmetry is unbroken. The characteristics of PT phase transition remain unaltered in this deformed formulation of quantum mechanics.

IR finite graviton propagators in de Sitter spacetime

Graviton propagator diverges in certain gauges in de Sitter spacetime. We address this problem in this work by generalizing the infinitesimal BRST transformations in de Sitter spacetime to finite field-dependent BRST (FFBRST) transformations. These FFBRST transformations are symmetry of the classical action, but do not leave path integral measure invariant for the graviton theory in de Sitter spacetime. Due to the non-trivial Jacobian of such finite transformation the path integral measure changes and hence FFBRST transformation is capable of relating theories in two different gauges. We explicitly construct FFBRST transformation which relates theory with diverging graviton two-point function to theory with infrared (IR) finite graviton. The FFBRST transformation thus establishes that divergence in graviton two-point function may be only a gauge artifact.

Maximal Abelian gauge and a generalized BRST transformation

We apply a generalized Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin (BRST) formulation to establish a connection between the gauge-fixed $SU(2)$ Yang-Mills (YM) theories formulated in the Lorenz gauge and in the Maximal Abelian (MA) gauge. It is shown that the generating functional corresponding to the Faddeev-Popov (FP) effective action in the MA gauge can be obtained from that in the Lorenz gauge by carrying out an appropriate finite and field-dependent BRST (FFBRST) transformation. In this procedure, the FP effective action in the MA gauge is found from that in the Lorenz gauge by incorporating the contribution of non-trivial Jacobian due to the FFBRST transformation of the path integral measure. The present FFBRST formulation might be useful to see how Abelian dominance in the MA gauge is realized in the Lorenz gauge.

Scattering amplitudes for the rationally extended P T symmetric complex potentials

In this paper, we consider the rational extensions of two different P T symmetric complex potentials namely the asymptotically vanishing Scarf II and asymptotically non-vanishing Rosen-Morse II [ RM-II] potentials and obtain bound state eigenfunc- tions in terms of newly found exceptional Xm Jacobi polynomials and also some new type of orthogonal polynomials respectively. By considering the asymptotic behaviour of the exceptional polynomials, we obtain the reflection and transmission amplitudes for them and discuss the various novel properties of the corresponding amplitudes.

Emergence of Lowenstein-Zimmermann mass terms for QED$_{3}$

In this paper we consider a super-renormalizable theory of massless QED in $(2+1)$ dimensions and discuss their BRST symmetry transformation. By extending the BRST transformation we derive the Nielsen identities for the theory. Further, we compute the generalized BRST (so-called FFBRST) transformation by making the transformation parameter field-dependent. Remarkably, we observe that the Lowenstein-Zimmerman mass terms, containing Lowenstein-Zimmerman parameter which plays an important role in the BPHZL renormalization program, along with the external sources coupled to the non-linear BRST variations appear naturally in the theory through a FFBRST transformation.

Equivalence between two different field-dependent BRST formulations

Finite field-dependent BRST (FFBRST) transformations were constructed by integrating infinitesimal BRST transformation in a closed form. Such a generalized transformations have been extended in various branch of physics and found many applications. Recently BRST transformation has also been generalized with same goal and motivation in slightly different manner. In this work we have shown that the later formulation is conceptually equivalent to the earlier formulation. We justify our claim by producing the same result of later formulation using earlier FFBRST formulation.

Generalized BRST symmetry for arbitrary spin conformal field theory

We develop the finite field-dependent BRST (FFBRST) transformation for arbitrary spin-s conformal field theories. We discuss the novel features of the FFBRST transformation in these systems. To illustrate the results we consider the spin-1 and spin-2 conformal field theories in two examples. Within the formalism we found that FFBRST transformation connects the generating functionals of spin-1 and spin-2 conformal field theories in linear and non-linear gauges. Further, the conformal field theories in the framework of FFBRST transformation are also analysed in Batalin-Vilkovisky (BV) formulation to establish the results.

Green's Functions in Perturbative Quantum Gravity

We show that the Green's functions in non-linear gauge in the theory of perturbative quantum gravity is expressed as a series in terms of those in linear gauges. This formulation is also holds for operator Green's functions. We further derive the explicit relation between the Green's functions in the theory of perturbative quantum gravity in a pair of arbitary gauges. This process involves some sort of modified FFBRST transformations which is derivable from infinitesimal field-dependent BRST transformations.

Group theoretic approach to rationally extended shape invariant potentials

The exact bound state spectrum of rationally extended shape invariant real as well as $PT$ symmetric complex potentials are obtained by using potential group approach. The generators of the potential groups are modified by introducing a new operator $U (x, J_3 \pm 1/2 )$ to express the Hamiltonian corresponding to these extended potentials in terms of Casimir operators. Connection between the potential algebra and the shape invariance is elucidated.

Hartman-Fletcher effect for array of complex barriers

We calculate the time taken by a wave packet to tunnel through a series of complex barrier potentials using stationary phase method to show its saturation (Hartman-Fletcher effect) with number of barriers in various situations. We numerically study the effect of the coupling between the elastic and inelastic channels, width of the individual barrier, separation between the consecutive barriers on the saturation of tunneling time. Nature of HF effect has further been investigated for more realistic barriers with random inelasticity and also for emissive inelastic channels.

PT phase transition in a (2+1)-d relativistic system

We study a massless Dirac particle with PT symmetric non-Hermitian Rashba interaction in the background of Dirac oscillator potential to show the PT phase transition in a (2+1) dimensional relativistic system analytically. PT phase transition occurs when strength of the (i) imaginary Rashba interaction or (ii) transverse magnetic field exceed their respective critical values. Small mass gap in the spectrum, consistent with other approaches is generated as long as the system is in the unbroken phase. Relativistic Landau levels are constructed explicitly for such a system.

A black potential for spin less particles

We consider the most general non-Hermitian Hulthen potential to study the scattering of spin-less relativistic particles. The conditions for CC, SS and CPA are obtained analytically for this potential. We show that almost total absorption occurs for entire range of incidence energy for certain parameter ranges of the potential and hence term this as `black potential'. Time reversed of the same potential shows perfect emission for the entire range of particle energy. We also present the classical analog of this potential in terms of waveguide cross section.

A superspace description of Chern-Simons theory in Batalin-Vilkovisky formulation

We discuss the extended BRST and anti-BRST symmetry (including shift symmetry) in the Batalin-Vilkovisky (BV) formulation for the Chern-Simons (CS) theories in $(2+1)$ spacetime dimensions. Further we develop the superspace description of BV formulation for such theories. Interestingly, the extended BRST invariant CS theories can be described in superspace in covariant manner with the help of one more (Grassmann) coordinate. However, a superspace with two Grassmann coordinates are required for a manifestly covariant formulation of the extended BRST and extended anti-BRST invariant actions for these theories.

Complex Classical Mechanics of a QES Potential

We consider a Parity-time (PT) invariant non-Hermitian quasi-exactly solvable (QES) potential which exhibits PT phase transition. We numerically study this potential in a complex plane classically to demonstrate different quantum effects. The particle with real energy makes closed orbits around one of the periodic wells of the complex potential depending on the initial condition. However interestingly the particle can have open orbits even with real energy if it is initially placed in certain region between the two wells on the same side of the imaginary axis. On the other hand when the particle energy is complex the trajectory is open and the particle tunnels back and forth between two wells which are separated by a classically forbidden path. The tunneling time is calculated for different pair of wells and is shown to vary inversely with the imaginary component of energy. At the classical level unlike the analogous quantum situation we do not see any qualitative differences in the features of the particle dynamics for PT symmetry broken and unbroken phases.

Critical coupling and coherent perfect absorption for ranges of energies due to a complex gain and loss symmetric system

We consider a non-Hermitian medium with a gain and loss symmetric, exponentially damped potential distribution to demonstrate different scattering features analytically. The condition for critical coupling (CC) for unidirectional wave and coherent perfect absorption (CPA) for bidirectional waves are obtained analytically for this system. The energy points at which total absorption occurs are shown to be the spectral singular points for the time reversed system. The possible energies at which CC occurs for left and right incidence are different. We further obtain periodic intervals with increasing periodicity of energy for CC and CPA to occur in this system.

Finite field-dependent BRST symmetry for ABJM theory in ${\cal N}=1$ superspace

In this paper we analyse the ABJM theory in ${\cal N}=1$ superspace. Firstly we study the linear and non-linear BRST transformations for the ABJM theory. Then we derive the finite field dependent version of these BRST (FFBRST) transformations. Further we show that such FFBRST transformations relate the generating functional in linear gauge to the generating functional in the non-linear gauge of ABJM theory.

Gaugeon formalism in the framework of generalized BRST symmetry

We consider gaugeon formulations which discuss the quantum gauge freedom covariantly in the framework of generalized BRST transformation for the Yang-Mills theory as well as the BRST invariant Higgs model. We generalize the BRST symmetries of both the Yang-Mills theory and the Higgs model by making the transformation parameter finite and field-dependent. Remarkably, we observe that the gaugeon Lagrangian which describe the quantum gauge freedom appear automatically in the effective theories along with the natural shift in gauge parameters under specific finite field-dependent parameters.

Rationally extended shape invariant potentials in arbitrary D-dimensions associated with exceptional $X_m$ polynomials

Rationally extended shape invariant potentials in arbitrary D-dimensions are obtained by using point canonical transformation (PCT) method. The bound-state solutions of these exactly solvable potentials can be written in terms of X_m Laguerre or X_m Jacobi exceptional orthogonal polynomials. These potentials are isospectral to their usual counterparts and possess translationally shape invariance property.

Reciprocity in parity violating non-Hermitian systems

Reciprocity is shown so far only when the scattering potential is either real or parity symmetric complex. We extend this result for parity violating complex potential by considering several explicit examples: (i) we show reciprocity for a PT symmetric (hence parity violating) complex potential which admits penetrating state solutions analytically for all possible values of incidence energy and (ii) reciprocity is shown to hold at certain discrete energies for two other parity violating complex potentials.

Comparison of different approaches of finding the positive definite metric in pseudo-Hermitian theories

To develop a unitary quantum theory with probabilistic description for pseudo- Hermitian systems one needs to consider the theories in a different Hilbert space endowed with a positive definite metric operator. There are different approaches to find such metric operators. We compare the different approaches of calculating pos- itive definite metric operators in pseudo-Hermitian theories with the help of several explicit examples in non-relativistic as well as in relativistic situations. Exceptional points and spontaneous symmetry breaking are also discussed in these models.

Noncommutative Gauge Theories: Model for Hodge theory

The nilpotent BRST, anti-BRST, dual-BRST and anti-dual-BRST symmetry transformations are constructed in the context of noncommutative (NC) 1-form as well as 2-form gauge theories. The corresponding Noether's charges for these symmetries on the Moyal plane are shown to satisfy the same algebra as by the de Rham cohomological operators of differential geometry. The Hodge decomposition theorem on compact manifold is also studied. We show that noncommutative gauge theories are field theoretic models for Hodge theory.

The generating functional for 3-form gauge theory in noncovariant gauge is obtained from that of in covariant gauge. We further extend the results by considering 3-form gauge theory in the context of Batalin-Vilkovisky (BV) formulation.

The Scattering amplitude for Rationally extended shape invariant Eckart potentials

We consider the rationally extended exactly solvable Eckart potentials which exhibit extended shape invariance property. These potentials are isospectral to the conventional Eckart potential. The scattering amplitude for these rationally ex- tended potentials is calculated analytically for the generalized mth (m = 1, 2, 3, ...) case by considering the asymptotic behavior of the scattering state wave functions which are written in terms of some new polynomials related to the Jacobi polyno- mials. As expected, in the m = 0 limit, this scattering amplitude goes over to the scattering amplitude for the conventional Eckart potential.

Various Scattering Properties of a New PT-symmetric non-Hermitian potential

We complexify a 1-d potential which exhibits bound, reflecting and free states to study various properties of a non-Hermitian system. This potential turns out a PT-symmetric non-Hermitian potential when one of the parameters becomes imaginary. For one PT-symmetric case we have entire real bound state spectrum. Explicit scattering states are constructed to show reciprocity at certain discrete values of energy even though the potential is not parity symmetric. Coexistence of deep energy minima of transmissivity with the multiple spectral singularities (MSS) is observed. We further show that this potential becomes invisible from left (or right) at certain discrete energies. The penetrating states in the other PT-symmetric configuration are always reciprocal even though it is PT-invariant and no spectral singularity (SS) is present in this case. Presence of MSS and reflectionlessness are also discussed for the free states in the later case.

Entangled Quantum State Discrimination using Pseudo-Hermitian System

We demonstrate how to discriminate two non-orthogonal, entangled quantum state which are slightly different from each other by using pseudo-Hermitian system. The positive definite metric operator which makes the pseudo-Hermitian systems fully consistent quantum theory is used for such a state discrimination. We further show that non-orthogonal states can evolve through a suitably constructed pseudo-Hermitian Hamiltonian to orthogonal states. Such evolution ceases at exceptional points of the pseudo-Hermitian system.

Field dependent nilpotent symmetry for gauge theories

We construct the field dependent mixed BRST (combination of BRST and anti-BRST) transformations for pure gauge theories. These are shown to be an exact nilpotent symmetry of both the effective action as well as the generating functional for certain choices of the field dependent parameters. We show that the Jacobian contributions for path integral measure in the definition of generating functional arising from BRST and anti-BRST part compensate each other. The field dependent mixed BRST transformations are also considered in field/antifield formulation to show that the solutions of quantum master equation remain invariant under these. Our results are supported by several explicit examples.

Finite BRST transformation and constrained systems

We establish the connection between the generating functional for the first-class theories and the generating functional for the second-class theories using the finite field dependent BRST (FFBRST) transformation. We show this connection with the help of explicit calculations in two different models. The generating functional of Proca model is obtained from the generating functional of Stueckelberg theory for massive spin 1 vector field using FFBRST transformation. In the other example we relate the generating functionals for gauge invariant and gauge variant theory for self-dual chiral boson.

Finite Nilpotent BRST transformations in Hamiltonian formulation

We consider the finite field dependent BRST (FFBRST) transformations in the context of Hamiltonian formulation using Batalin-Fradkin-Vilkovisky method. The non-trivial Jacobian of such transformations is calculated in extended phase space. The contribution from Jacobian can be written as exponential of some local functional of fields which can be added to the effective Hamiltonian of the system. Thus, FFBRST in Hamiltonian formulation with extended phase space also connects different effective theories. We establish this result with the help of two explicit examples. We also show that the FFBRST transformations is similar to the canonical transformtaions in the sector of Lagrange multiplier and its corresponding momenta.

Spectral singularity and deep multiple minima in the reflectivity in non-Hermitian (complex) Ginocchio potential

We bring out the existence of at most one spectral singularity (SS) and deep multiple minima in the reflectivity of the non-Hermitian (complex) Ginocchio potential. We find a parameter dependent single spectral singularity in this potential provided the imaginary part is emissive (not absorptive). The reflectionlessness of the real Hermitian Ginocchio's potential at discrete positive energies gives way to deep multiple minima in reflectivity when this potential is perturbed and made non-Hermitian (complex). A novel co-existence of a SS with deep minima in reflectivity is also revealed wherein the first reflectivity zero of the Hermitian case changes to become a SS for the non-Hermitian case. {PACS: 03.65.Nk,11.30.Er,42.25.Bs}

Spectral singularity and non-Hermitian PT-symmetric extension of $A_{N-1}$ type Calogero model without confining potential

We consider non-Hermitian PT-symmetric deformation of $A_{N-1}$ type Calogero model without confining potential to investigate the possible existence of spectral singularity. By considering the Wronskian between asymptotic incoming and outgoing scattering state wave functions, we found that there exist no spectral singularity in this model. We further explicitly show that the transmission coefficient vanishes and the reflection coefficient becomes unity for all values of the energy in such a momentum dependent non-Hermitian PT-symmetric model.

Relating Gribov-Zwanziger theory and Yang-Mills theory in Batalin-Vilkovisky formalism

We consider the BRST invariant Gribov-Zwanziger theory with appropriate horizon term in Batalin-Vilkovisky formalism. The usual infinitesimal BRST transformation is generalized by considering the parameter finite and field dependent. We show that such finite field dependent BRST transformation with suitable choice of finite parameter relates the generating functional of Gribov-Zwanziger theory to that of the Yang-Mills theory.

We consider the Gribov-Zwanziger (GZ) theory with appropriate horizon term which exhibits the nilpotent BRST invariance. This infinitesimal BRST transformation has been generalized by allowing the parameter to be finite and field dependent (FFBRST). The model for self-dual chiral bosons as a Hodge theory

We consider (1+1) dimensional theory for a single self-dual chiral boson as classical model for gauge theory. Using Batalin-Fradkin-Vilkovisky (BFV) technique the nilpotent BRST and anti BRST symmetry transformations for this theory have been studied. In this model other forms of nilpotent symmetry transformations like co-BRST and anti co-BRST which leave the gauge-fixing part of the action invariant, are also explored. We show that the nilpotent charges for these symmetry transformations satisfy the algebra of de Rham cohomological operators in differential geometry. The Hodge decomposition theorem on compact manifold is also studied in the context of conserved charges.

Finite nilpotent symmetry in Batalin-Vilkovisky formalism

We consider the Batalin-Vilkovisky formulation of both 1-form and 2-form gauge theories, in the context of generalized BRST transformations with finite field dependent parameter. In the usual Faddeev-Popov formulation of gauge theories such finite field dependent BRST (FFBRST) transformations do not leave the generating functionals invariant as the path integral measure changes in a non-trivial way for a finite transformations. Here we show that FFBRST transformation, with appropriate choice of finite field-dependent parameter, is symmetry of the generating functionals in the Batalin-Vilkovisky formalism. The finite parameter is chosen in such a way that the contribution from the Jacobian of the path integral measure is adjusted with gauge fixed fermions which do not change the generating functionals. Several examples for such a finite parameters are constructed.

Generalized BRST transformation in Abelian rank-2 antisymmetric tensor field theory

We generalize the BRST transformations in Abelian rank-2 tensor field theory by allowing the parameter to be finite and field dependent and show that such transformations play crucial role in studying the Abelian 2-form gauge theory in noncovariant gauges. The generating functionals in different effective theories are connected through these generalized BRST transformations with different choice of finite parameter. We further consider the generalization of the anti-BRST transformations and show that even anti-BRST transformations with the finite field dependent parameter relate the generating functional for different effective theories. Such generalized BRST/anti-BRST transformations are useful in connecting generating functionals corresponding to different effective theories. Field/antifield formulation of this Abelian 2-form gauge theory is also studied in the context of generalized BRST transormations. We show that generalized BRST transformation connects the generating functional corresponding to the different solutions of quantum master equation in field/antifield formulation.

New forms of BRST symmetry in rigid rotor

We derive the different forms of BRST symmetry by using the Batalin-Fradkin-Vilkovisky formalism in a rigid rotor. The so called "dual-BRST" symmetry is obtained from usual BRST symmetry by making a canonical transformation in the ghost sector. On the other hand, a canonical transformation in the sector involving Lagrange multiplier and its corresponding momentum leads to a new form of BRST as well as dual-BRST symmetry.

Off-shell nilpotent finite BRST/anti-BRST transformations

We develop the off-shell nilpotent finite field dependent BRST transformations and show that for different choices of the finite field dependent parameter these connect the generating functionals corresponding to different effective theories. We also construct both on-shell and off-shell finite field dependent anti-BRST tranformations for Yang Mills theories and show that these transformations play the similar role in connecting different generating functionals of different effective theories. Analogous to the finite field dependent BRST transformations, the non-trivial Jacobians of the path integral measure which arise due to the finite field dependent anti-BRST transformations are responsible for the new results. We consider several explicit examples in each case to demonstrate the results.

Pseudo-Hermitian Interactions in Dirac Theory: Examples

We consider a couple of examples to study the pseudo-Hermitian interaction in relativistic quantum mechanics. Rasbha interaction, commonly used to study the spin Hall effect, is considered with imaginary coupling. The corresponding Dirac Hamiltonian is shown to be parity pseudo-Hermitian. In the other example we consider parity pseudo-Hermitian scalar interaction with arbitrary parameter in Dirac theory. In both the cases we show that the energy spectrum is real and all the other features of non-relativistic pseudo-Hermitian formulation are present. Using the spectral method the positive definite metric operator ($η$) has been calculated explicitly for both the models to ensure positive definite norms for the state vectors.

Various forms of BRST symmetry in Abelian 2-form gauge theory

We derive the various forms of BRST symmetry using Batalin-Fradkin-Vilkovisky approach in the case of Abelian 2-form gauge theory. We show that the so-called dual BRST symmetry is not an independent symmetry but the generalization of BRST symmetry obtained from the canonical transformation in the bosonic and ghost sector. We further obtain the new forms of both BRST and dual-BRST symmetry by making a general transformation in the Lagrange multipliers of the bosonic and ghost sector of the theory.

Relating the generating functionals in field/antifield formulation through finite field dependent BRST transformation

We study the field/antifield formulation of pure Yang Mills theory in the framework of finite field dependent BRST transformation. We show that the generating functionals corresponding to different solutions of quantum master equation are connected through the finite field dependent BRST transformations. We establish this result with the help of several explicit examples.

Exciton in Matrix Formulation of Quantum Hall Effect

The quantum Hall effect is studied by introducing two different matrix variables for electrons and holes, having Chern-Simons type interactions. By generalizing the constraint condition proposed by Susskind to realize the Pauli's exclusion principle in this two component matrix model, the classical exciton solution having excitation of both quasi-electron and quasi-hole is obtained. The constraint condition is also solved quantum mechanically in the infinite-sized matrix case, giving the examples of the physical states. Using these quantum states, the corrections of the exciton energy, coming from the noncommutativity of space (Pauli principle) and from the quantum effects of the background state, are estimated in the lowest order perturbation expansion. As a result, the dispersion relation of exciton is obtained.

A superspace formulation of Abelian antisymmetric tensor gauge theory

We apply a superspace formulation to the four-dimensional gauge theory of a massless Abelian antisymmetric tensor field of rank 2. The theory is formulated in a six-dimensional superspace using rank-2 tensor, vector and scalar superfields and their associated supersources. It is shown that BRS transformation rules of fields are realized as Euler-Lagrange equations without assuming the so-called horizontality condition and that a generating functional $\bar{W}$ constracted in the superspace reduces to that for the ordinary gauge theory of Abelian rank-2 antisymmetric tensor field. The WT identity for this theory is derived by making use of the superspace formulation and is expressed in a neat and compact form $\partial\bar{W}/\partialθ=0$.

A superspace formulation of an "asymptotic" OSp(3,1|2) invariance of Yang-Mills theories

We formulate a superspace field theory which is shown to be equivalent to the $c-\bar{c}$ symmetric BRS/Anti-BRS invariant Yang-Mills action. The theory uses a 6-dimensional superspace and one OSp(3,1|2) vector multiplet of unconstrained superfields. We establish a superspace WT identity and show that the formulation has an asymptotic OSp(3,1|2) invariance as the gauge parameter goes to infinity. We give a physical interpretation of this asymptotic OSp(3,1|2) invariance as a symmetry transformation among the longitudinal/time like degrees of freedom of $A_μ$ and the ghost degrees of freedom.

Anti-isospectral Transformations, Orthogonal Polynomials and Quasi-Exactly Solvable Problems

We consider the double sinh-Gordon potential which is a quasi-exactly solvable problem and show that in this case one has two sets of Bender-Dunne orthogonal polynomials . We study in some detail the various properties of these polynomials and the corresponding quotient polynomials. In particular, we show that the weight functions for these polynomials are not always positive. We also study the orthogonal polynomials of the double sine-Gordon potential which is related to the double sinh-Gordon case by an anti-isospectral transformation. Finally we discover a new quasi-exactly solvable problem by making use of the anti-isospectral transformation.
