An extension problem related to the fractional Branson-Gover operators

The Branson-Gover operators are conformally invariant differential operators of even degree acting on differential forms. They can be interpolated by a holomorphic family of conformally invariant integral operators called fractional Branson-Gover operators. For Euclidean spaces we show that the fractional Branson-Gover operators can be obtained as Dirichlet-to-Neumann operators of certain conformally invariant boundary value problems, generalizing the work of Caffarelli-Silvestre for the fractional Laplacians to differential forms. The relevant boundary value problems are studied in detail and we find appropriate Sobolev type spaces in which there exist unique solutions and obtain the explicit integral kernels of the solution operators as well as some of its properties.

Branching laws for Verma modules and applications in parabolic geometry. I

We initiate a new study of differential operators with symmetries and combine this with the study of branching laws for Verma modules of reductive Lie algebras. By the criterion for discretely decomposable and multiplicity-free restrictions of generalized Verma modules [T. Kobayashi, http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s00031-012-9180-y {Transf. Groups (2012)}], we are brought to natural settings of parabolic geometries for which there exist unique equivariant differential operators to submanifolds. Then we apply a new method (F-method) relying on the Fourier transform to find singular vectors in generalized Verma modules, which significantly simplifies and generalizes many preceding works. In certain cases, it also determines the Jordan--Hölder series of the restriction for singular parameters. The F-method yields an explicit formula of such unique operators, for example, giving an intrinsic and new proof of Juhl's conformally invariant differential operators [Juhl, http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-7643-9900-9 {Progr. Math. 2009}] and its generalizations. This article is the first in the series, and the next ones include their extension to curved cases together with more applications of the F-method to various settings in parabolic geometries.

Knapp-Stein type intertwining operators for symmetric pairs

For a symmetric pair $(G,H)$ of reductive groups we construct a family of intertwining operators between spherical principal series representations of $G$ and $H$ that are induced from parabolic subgroups satisfying certain compatibility conditions. The operators are given explicitly in terms of their integral kernels and we prove convergence of the integrals for an open set of parameters and meromorphic continuation. We further discuss uniqueness of intertwining operators, and for the rank one cases $$ (G,H)=(SU(1,n;\mathbb{F}),S(U(1,m;\mathbb{F})\times U(n-m;\mathbb{F}))), \qquad \mathbb{F}=\mathbb{R},\mathbb{C},\mathbb{H},\mathbb{O}, $$ and for the pair $$ (G,H)=(GL(4n,\mathbb{R}),GL(2n,\mathbb{C})) $$ we show that for a certain choice of maximal parabolic subgroups our operators generically span the space of intertwiners.

Conformal covariance for the powers of the Dirac operator

A new proof of the conformal covariance of the powers of the flat Dirac operator is obtained. The proof uses their relation with the Knapp-Stein intertwining operators for the spinorial principal series. We also treat the compact picture, i.e. the corresponding operators on the sphere, where certain polynomials of the Dirac operator appear. This gives a new representation-theoretic framework for earlier results.

Estimates for the restriction of automorphic forms on hyperbolic manifolds to compact geodesic cycles

We find estimates for the restriction of automorphic forms on hyperbolic manifolds to compact geodesic cycles. The geodesic cycles we study are themselves hyperbolic manifolds of lower dimension. The restriction of an automorphic form to such a geodesic cycle can be expanded into eigenfunctions of the Laplacian on the geodesic cycle. We prove exponential decay for the coefficients in this expansion.

Invariant differential operators on H-type groups and discrete components in restrictions of complementary series of rank one semisimple groups

We explicitly construct a finite number of discrete components in the restriction of complementary series representations of rank one semisimple groups $G$ to rank one subgroups $G_1$. For this we use the realizations of complementary series representations of $G$ and $G_1$ on Sobolev spaces on the nilpotent radicals $N$ and $N_1$ of the minimal parabolics in $G$ and $G_1$, respectively. The groups $N$ and $N_1$ are of H-type and we construct explicitly invariant differential operators between $N$ and $N_1$. These operators induce the projections onto the discrete components. Our construction of the invariant differential operators is carried out uniformly in the framework of H-type groups and also works for those H-type groups which do not occur as nilpotent radical of a parabolic subgroup in a semisimple group.

Fock model and Segal-Bargmann transform for minimal representations of Hermitian Lie groups

For any Hermitian Lie group G of tube type we construct a Fock model of its minimal representation. The Fock space is defined on the minimal nilpotent K_C-orbit X in p_C and the L^2-inner product involves a K-Bessel function as density. Here K is a maximal compact subgroup of G, and g_C=k_C+p_C is a complexified Cartan decomposition. In this realization the space of k-finite vectors consists of holomorphic polynomials on X. The reproducing kernel of the Fock space is calculated explicitly in terms of an I-Bessel function. We further find an explicit formula of a generalized Segal-Bargmann transform which intertwines the Schroedinger and Fock model. Its kernel involves the same I-Bessel function. Using the Segal--Bargmann transform we also determine the integral kernel of the unitary inversion operator in the Schroedinger model which is given by a J-Bessel function.

Geometric analysis on small unitary representations of GL(N,R)

The most degenerate unitary principal series representations π_{iλ,δ} (with λ \in R, δ\in Z/2Z) of G = GL(N,R) attain the minimum of the Gelfand-Kirillov dimension among all irreducible unitary representations of G. This article gives an explicit formula of the irreducible decomposition of the restriction π_{iλ,δ}|_H (branching law) with respect to all symmetric pairs (G,H). For N=2n with n \geq 2, the restriction π_{iλ,δ}|_H remains irreducible for H=Sp(n,R) if λ\neq0 and splits into two irreducible representations if λ=0. The branching law of the restriction π_{iλ,δ}|_H is purely discrete for H = GL(n,C), consists only of continuous spectrum for H = GL(p,R) \times GL(q,R) (p+q=N), and contains both discrete and continuous spectra for H=O(p,q) (p>q\geq1). Our emphasis is laid on geometric analysis, which arises from the restriction of `small representations' to various subgroups.
