Effect of non-uniform exchange field in ferromagnetic graphene

We have presented here the consequences of the non-uniform exchange field on the spin transport issues in spin chiral configuration of ferromagnetic graphene. Taking resort to the spin orbit coupling (SOC) term and non-uniform exchange coupling term we are successful to express the expression of Hall conductivity in terms of the exchange field and SOC parameters through the Kubo formula approach. However, for a specific configuration of the exchange parameter we have evaluated the Berry curvature of the system. We also have paid attention to the study of SU(2) gauge theory of ferromagnetic graphene. The generation of anti damping spin orbit torque in spin chiral magnetic graphene is also briefly discussed.

Effect of cosmic string on spin dynamics

In the present paper, we have investigated the role of cosmic string on spin current and Hall electric field. Due to the background cosmic string, the modified electric field of the system generates renormalized spin orbit coupling, which induces a modified non-Abelian gauge field. The defect causes a change in the AB and AC phases appearing due to the modified electromagnetic field. In addition, for a time varying electric field we perform explicit analytic calculations to derive the exact form of spin electric field and spin current, which is defect parameter dependent and of oscillating type. Furthermore, in an asymmetric crystal within the Drude model approach we investigate the dependence of the cosmic string parameters on cosmic string induced Hall electric field.

Effect of spin rotation coupling on spin transport

We have studied the spin rotation coupling(SRC) as an ingredient to explain different spin related issues. This special kind of coupling can play the role of a Dresselhaus like coupling in certain conditions. Consequently, one can control the spin splitting, induced by the Dresselhaus like term, which is unusual in semiconductor heterostucture. Within this framework, we also study the renormalization of the spin dependent electric field and spin current due to the $\vec{k} . \vec{p}$ perturbation, by taking into account the interband mixing in the rotating system. In this paper we predict the enhancement of the spin dependent electric field resulting from the renormalized spin rotation coupling. The renormalization factor of the spin electric field is different from that of the SRC or Zeeman coupling. The effect of renormalized SRC on spin current and Berry curvature is also studied. Interestingly, in presence of this SRC induced SOC it is possible to describe spin splitting as well as spin galvanic effect in semiconductors.

Inertial effect on spin orbit coupling and spin transport

We theoretically study the renormalization of inertial effects on the spin dependent transport of conduction electrons in a semiconductor by taking into account the interband mixing on the basis of k.p perturbation theory. In our analysis, for the generation of spin current we have used the extended Drude model where the spin orbit coupling plays an important role. We predict enhancement of the spin current resulting from the rerormalized spin orbit coupling effective in our model in cubic and non cubic crystal. Attention has been paid to clarify the importance of gauge fields in the spin transport of this inertial system. A theoretical proposition of a perfect spin filter has been done through the Aharanov Casher like phase corresponding to this inertial system. For a time dependent acceleration, effect of $\vec{k} . \vec{p}$ perturbation on the spin current and spin polarization has also been addressed. Furthermore, achievement of a tunable source of polarized spin current through the non uniformity of the inertial spin orbit coupling strength has also been discussed.

Inertial spin Hall effect in noncommutative space

In the present paper the study of inertial spin current(that appears in an accelerated frame of reference) is extended to Non-Commutative (NC) space. The $θ$-dependence, ($θ$ being the NC parameter), of the inertial spin current is derived explicitly. We have provided yet another way of experimentally measuring $θ$. Our bound on $θ$ matches with previous results. In Hamiltonian framework, the Dirac Hamiltonian in an accelerating frame is computed in the low energy regime by exploiting the Foldy-Wouthuysen scheme. The NC $θ$-effect appears from the replacement of normal products and commutators by Moyal *-products and *-commutators. In particular, the commutator between the external magnetic vector potential and the potential induced by acceleration becomes non-trivial. Expressions for $θ$-corrected inertial spin current and conductivity are derived. The $θ$ bound is obtained from the out of plane spin polarization, which is experimentally observable.

The Berry phase in inflationary cosmology

We derive an analogue of the Berry phase associated with inflationary cosmological perturbations of quantum mechanical origin by obtaining the corresponding wavefunction. We have further shown that cosmological Berry phase can be completely envisioned through the observable parameters, viz. spectral indices. Finally, physical significance of this phase is discussed from the point of view of theoretical and observational aspects with some possible consequences of this quantity in inflationary cosmology.

The effect of inertia on the Dirac electron, the spin Hall current and the momentum space Berry curvature

We have studied the spin dependent force and the associated momentum space Berry curvature in an accelerating system. The results are derived by taking into consideration the non relativistic limit of a generally covariant Dirac equation under the presence of electromagnetic field where the methodology of Foldy-Wouthuysen transformation is applied to achieve the non relativistic limit. Spin currents appear due to the combined action of the external electric field, crystal field and the induced inertial electric field via the total effective spin-orbit interaction. In an accelerating frame, the crucial role of momentum space Berry curvature in the spin dynamics has also been addressed from the perspective of spin Hall conductivity. For time dependent acceleration, the expression for the spin polarization has been derived.

A semi-analytical approach to perturbations in mutated hilltop inflation

We study cosmological perturbations and observational aspects for mutated hilltop model of inflation. Employing mostly analytical treatment, we evaluate observable parameters during inflation as well as post-inflationary perturbations. This further leads to exploring observational aspects related to Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) radiation. This semi-analytical treatment reduces complications related to numerical computation to some extent for studying the different phenomena related to CMB angular power spectrum for mutated hilltop inflation.

Confronting quasi-exponential inflation with WMAP seven

We confront quasi-exponential models of inflation with WMAP seven years dataset using Hamilton Jacobi formalism. With a phenomenological Hubble parameter, representing quasi exponential inflation, we develop the formalism and subject the analysis to confrontation with WMAP seven using the publicly available code CAMB. The observable parameters are found to fair extremely well with WMAP seven. We also obtain a ratio of tensor to scalar amplitudes which may be detectable in PLANCK.

Quantum Cournot equilibrium for the Hotelling-Smithies model of product choice

This paper demonstrates the quantization of a spatial Cournot duopoly model with product choice, a two stage game focusing on non-cooperation in locations and quantities. With quantization, the players can access a continuous set of strategies, using continuous variable quantum mechanical approach. The presence of quantum entanglement in the initial state identifies a quantity equilibrium for every location pair choice with any transport cost. Also higher profit is obtained by the firms at Nash equilibrium. Adoption of quantum strategies rewards us by the existence of a larger quantum strategic space at equilibrium.

Quantum phases and dynamics of geometric phase in a quantum spin chain system under linear quench

We study the quantum phases of anisotropic XY spin chain system in presence and absence of adiabatic quench. A connection between geometric phase and criticality is established from the dynamical behaviour of the geometric phase for a quench induced quantum phase transition in a quantum spin chain. We predict XX criticality associated with a sequence of non-contractible geometric phases.

Berry phase and fidelity susceptibility of the three-qubit Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick ground state

Berry phases and quantum fidelities for interacting spins have attracted considerable attention, in particular in relation to entanglement properties of spin systems and quantum phase transitions. These efforts mainly focus either on spin pairs or the thermodynamic infinite spin limit, while studies of the multipartite case of a finite number of spins are rare. Here, we analyze Berry phases and quantum fidelities of the energetic ground state of a Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick (LMG) model consisting of three spin-1/2 particles (qubits). We find explicit expressions for the Berry phase and fidelity susceptibility of the full system as well as the mixed state Berry phase and partial-state fidelity susceptibility of its one- and two-qubit subsystems. We demonstrate a realization of a nontrivial magnetic monopole structure associated with local, coordinated rotations of the three-qubit system around the external magnetic field.

City Size Distributions For India and China

This paper studies the size distributions of urban agglomerations for India and China. We have estimated the scaling exponent for the Zipf's law with the Indian census data for the years of 1981-2001 and the Chinese census data for 1990 and 2000. Along with the biased linear fit estimate, the maximum likelihood estimate for the Pareto and Tsallis q-exponential distribution has been computed. For India, the scaling exponent is in the range of [1.88, 2.06] and for China, it is in the interval [1.82, 2.29]. The goodness-of-fit tests of the estimated distributions are performed using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov statistic.

Consumer Expenditure Distribution in India, 1983-2007: Evidence of a Long Pareto Tail

This work presents an empirical study of the evolution of the consumer expenditure distribution in India during 1982-2007. We have used the National Sample Survey Organization data and analysed the expenditure distribution for the urban and rural sectors. It is found that this distribution is a mixture of two distributions, more particularly, it follows a lognormal in the lower tail and a Pareto distribution in the higher end. The Pareto tail consists of a remarkable 30-40% of the population in the upper end and the lower end is suitably modeled by the lognormal one. The goodness-of-fit tests endorse the proposed distribution. Moreover, the Pareto tail is widening over time for the rural sector. The Gini coefficient, a prominent measure for inequality, for the expenditure distribution is found to be stable for the entire time span.

Mutated Hilltop Inflation : A Natural Choice for Early Universe

We propose a model of inflation with a suitable potential for a single scalar field which falls in the wide class of hilltop inflation. We derive the analytical expressions for most of the physical quantities related to inflation and show that all of them represent the true behavior as required from a model of inflation. We further subject the results to observational verification by formulating the theory of perturbations based on our model followed by an estimation for the values of those observable parameters. Our model is found to be in excellent agreement with observational data. Thus, the features related to the model leads us to infer that this type of hilltop inflation may be a natural choice for explaining the early universe.

The geometric phase and the dynamics of quantum phase transition induced by a linear quench

We have analysed here the role of the geometric phase in dynamical mechanism of quantum phase transition in the transverse Ising model. We have investigated the system when it is driven at a fixed rate characterized by a quench time $τ_q$ across the critical point from a paramagnetic to ferromagnetic phase. Our argument is based on the fact that the spin fluctuation occurring during the critical slowing down causes random fluctuation in the ground state geometric phase at the critical regime. The correlation function of the random geometric phase determines the excitation probability of the quasiparticles, which are excited during the transition from the inital paramagnetic to the ferromagnetic phase. This helps us to evaluate the number density of the kinks formed during the transition, which is found to scale as $τ_q^{-\frac{1}{2}}$. In addition, we have also estimated the spin-spin correlation at criticality.

The Morphology of Urban Agglomerations for Developing Countries: A Case Study with China

In this article, the relationship between two well-accepted empirical propositions regarding the distribution of population in cities, namely, Gibrat's law and Zipf's law, are rigorously examined using the Chinese census data. Our findings are quite in contrast with the most of the previous studies performed exclusively for developed countries. This motivates us to build a general environment to explain the morphology of urban agglomerations both in developed and developing countries. A dynamic process of job creation generates a particular distribution for the urban agglomerations and introduction of Special Economic Zones (SEZ) in this abstract environment shows that the empirical observations are in good agreement with the proposed model.

Novel Families of Fractional Quantum Hall States : A Berry Phase Approach

We have studied here the newly observed families of fractional quantum Hall states in the framework of Berry phase. It has been shown that this approach embraces in a unified way the whole spectrum of quantum Hall states with their various characteristic features. The newly observed states can be well accommodated within the primary sequence of FQH states and need not be considered as second generation FQH states as suggested by some authors.
