Spin-aligned butterfly spectral map in Non-Hermitian quasicrystals

The Non-Hermitian spinful Aubry-André-Harper (AAH) model in the presence of Rashba-type spin-orbit coupling (RSOC) and a spatially varying textured magnetic field is studied. Interestingly, our analysis produces a butterfly spectral map due to the non-trivial extent of localization of the states in the spectrum. This spectral map also exhibits an asymmetric spin alignment with respect to the wings of the butterfly. Our analysis also suggests that the onset of such a spectral map is a combined effect of the non-hermiticity, spin-orbit interaction, and the textured magnetic field.

Temporal evolution of fluxes in driven quantum dots

Driven mesoscopic system is a topic of great recent interest. The temporal evolution of the fluxes(particle and energy) are studied in a system of a driven single level quantum dot. At a very low reservoir temperature $T\rightarrow 0$ and for common chemical potentials of the two reservoirs, we have presented analytical expressions for time dependent particle and energy fluxes in a very simple form. Apart from these fluxes, the behavior of the dot occupation and the power developed in the system due to the presence of the time dependent drive are also being studied. Importantly, for a very low frequency of the drive, one finds a directed energy flow towards the leads. Increasing the frequency from low to medium, one finds change in the direction of the energy flow depending on the time. These results can also be verified experimentally.

Consequences of the thermal dependence of spin orbit coupling in semiconductors

The $\vec{k}.\vec{p}$ perturbation theory in semiconductor modifies some spin related parameters of the semi-conducting system. Furthermore, renormalization of the Kane model parameters occurs when temperature appears in the scenario. In this paper, we have analysed the consequences of this renormalized Kane parameters on some spin transport issues. It is noteworthy to study that the temperature corrected scenario, explained here can open up a new direction towards the spin calorimetric applications in semiconductors.

Effect of Perturbative Hexagonal Warping on Quantum Capacitance in Ultra-Thin Topological Insulators

Ultra-thin 3D topological insulators provide a stage to study the surface physics of such materials by minimizing the bulk contribution. Further, the experimentally verified snowflake like structure of the Fermi surface leads to a hexagonal warping term, and this discourse examines it as a perturbation in the presence of a magnetic field. We find that there are corrections to both energy dispersion and eigenstates which in turn alter the density of states in the presence of a magnetic field. Both the quantum capacitance and the Hall coefficient are evaluated analytically and it is shown here that we recover their established forms along with small corrections which preserve the object of treating hexagonal warping perturbatively. In our approach, the established Hall conductivity expression develops several minute correction terms and thus its behavior remains largely unaffected due to warping. The zero-temperature quantum capacitance exhibits SdH oscillations with reduced frequencies, with a lowered average capacitance with increased warping of the Fermi surface, while maintaining the usual amplitudes.

Hybridization and Field Driven Phase Transitions in Hexagonally Warped Topological Insulators

In this paper we discuss the role of material parameters and external field effects on a thin film topological insulator(TI) in the context of quantum phase transition(QPT). First, we consider an in-plane tilted magnetic field and determine the band structure of the surface states as a function of the tilt angle. We show that the presence of either a hybridization term or hexagonal warping or a combination of both leads to a semi-metal to insulator phase transition which is facilitated by their ${\cal PT}$ symmetry breaking character. We then note that while the introduction of an electric field does not allow for this QPT since it doesn't break ${\cal PT}$ symmetry, it can be used in conjunction with a tunneling element to reach a phase transition efficiently. The corresponding critical point is then non-trivially depend on the electric field, which is pointed out here. Then, we demonstrate that including a hexagonal warping term leads to an immediate ${\cal PT}$ symmetry violating QPT.

Quantum transport in ferromagnetic graphene: Role of Berry curvature

The magnetic effects in ferromagnetic graphene basically depend on the principle of exchange interaction when ferromagntism is induced by depositing an insulator layer on graphene. Here we deal with the consequences of non-uniformity in the exchange coupling strength of the ferromagnetic graphene. We discuss how the in- homogeneity in the coordinate and momentum of the exchange vector field can provide interesting results in the conductivity analysis of the ferromagnetic graphene. Our analysis is based on the Kubo formalism of quantum transport.

Spin transport in tilted electron vortex beams

In this paper we have enlightened the spin related issues of tilted Electron vortex beams. We have shown that in the skyrmionic model of electron we can have the spin Hall current considering the tilted type of electron vortex beam. We have considered the monopole charge of the tilted vortex as time dependent and through the time variation of the monopole charge we can explain the spin Hall effect of electron vortex beams. Besides, with an external magnetic field we can have a spin filter configuration.

Unified approach towards the dynamics of optical and electron vortex beams

We have proposed a unified framework towards the dynamics of optical and electron vortex beams from the perspective of geometric phase and the associated Hall effects. The unification is attributed to the notion that the spin degrees of freedom of a relativistic particle, either massive or massless, is associated with a vortex line. %The formulation in cylindrical coordinates leads to a local vortex structure related to orbital angular momentum(OAM). Based on cylindrical corodinate formulation, which leads to a local vortex structure related to orbital angular momentum (OAM), it can be shown that when electron vortex beams (EVBs) move in an external electric field paraxial beams give rise to OAM Hall effect and non-paraxial beams with tilted vortices initiate spin Hall effect in free space as well as in an external field. A similar analysis reveals that the paraxial optical vortex beams(OVBs) in an inhomogeneous medium induce OAM Hall effect whereas non-paraxial beams with tilted vortices drive the spin Hall effect. Moreover, both OVBs and EVBs with tilted vortices give rise to OAM states with arbitrary fractional value.

Effect of non-uniform exchange field in ferromagnetic graphene

We have presented here the consequences of the non-uniform exchange field on the spin transport issues in spin chiral configuration of ferromagnetic graphene. Taking resort to the spin orbit coupling (SOC) term and non-uniform exchange coupling term we are successful to express the expression of Hall conductivity in terms of the exchange field and SOC parameters through the Kubo formula approach. However, for a specific configuration of the exchange parameter we have evaluated the Berry curvature of the system. We also have paid attention to the study of SU(2) gauge theory of ferromagnetic graphene. The generation of anti damping spin orbit torque in spin chiral magnetic graphene is also briefly discussed.

Electron vortex beams in a magnetic field and spin filter

We investigate the propagation of electron vortex beams in a magnetic field. It is pointed out that when electron vortex beams carrying orbital angular momentum propagate in a magnetic field, the Berry curvature associated with the scalar electron moving in a cyclic path around the vortex line is modified from that in free space. This alters the spin-orbit interaction, which affects the propagation of nonparaxial beams. The electron vortex beams with tilted vortex lead to spin Hall effect in free space. In presence of a magnetic field in time space we have spin filtering such that either positive or negative spin states emerge in spin Hall currents with clustering of spin $\frac{1}{2}$ states.

Kane model parameters and stochastic spin current

The spin current and spin conductivity is computed through thermally driven stochastic process. By evaluating the Kramers equation and with the help of $\vec{k}.\vec{p}$ method we have studied the spin Hall scenario. Due to the thermal assistance, the Kane model parameters get modified, which consequently modulate the spin orbit coupling(SOC). This modified SOC causes the spin current to change in a finite amount.

Relativistic electron vortex beams in a laser field

The orbital angular momentum Hall effect and spin Hall effect of electron vortex beams (EVB) have been studied for the EVBs interacting with laser field. In the scenario of paraxial beam, the cumulative effect of the orbit-orbit interaction of EVBs and laser fields drives the orbital Hall effect, which in turn produces a shift of the center of the beam from that of the field-free case towards the polarization axis of photons. Besides, for non-paraxial beams one can also perceive a similar shift of the center of the beam owing to spin Hall effect involving spin-orbit interaction. Our analysis suggests that the shift in the paraxial beams will always be larger than that in non-paraxial beams.

Effect of cosmic string on spin dynamics

In the present paper, we have investigated the role of cosmic string on spin current and Hall electric field. Due to the background cosmic string, the modified electric field of the system generates renormalized spin orbit coupling, which induces a modified non-Abelian gauge field. The defect causes a change in the AB and AC phases appearing due to the modified electromagnetic field. In addition, for a time varying electric field we perform explicit analytic calculations to derive the exact form of spin electric field and spin current, which is defect parameter dependent and of oscillating type. Furthermore, in an asymmetric crystal within the Drude model approach we investigate the dependence of the cosmic string parameters on cosmic string induced Hall electric field.

Effect of spin rotation coupling on spin transport

We have studied the spin rotation coupling(SRC) as an ingredient to explain different spin related issues. This special kind of coupling can play the role of a Dresselhaus like coupling in certain conditions. Consequently, one can control the spin splitting, induced by the Dresselhaus like term, which is unusual in semiconductor heterostucture. Within this framework, we also study the renormalization of the spin dependent electric field and spin current due to the $\vec{k} . \vec{p}$ perturbation, by taking into account the interband mixing in the rotating system. In this paper we predict the enhancement of the spin dependent electric field resulting from the renormalized spin rotation coupling. The renormalization factor of the spin electric field is different from that of the SRC or Zeeman coupling. The effect of renormalized SRC on spin current and Berry curvature is also studied. Interestingly, in presence of this SRC induced SOC it is possible to describe spin splitting as well as spin galvanic effect in semiconductors.

Inertial effect on spin orbit coupling and spin transport

We theoretically study the renormalization of inertial effects on the spin dependent transport of conduction electrons in a semiconductor by taking into account the interband mixing on the basis of k.p perturbation theory. In our analysis, for the generation of spin current we have used the extended Drude model where the spin orbit coupling plays an important role. We predict enhancement of the spin current resulting from the rerormalized spin orbit coupling effective in our model in cubic and non cubic crystal. Attention has been paid to clarify the importance of gauge fields in the spin transport of this inertial system. A theoretical proposition of a perfect spin filter has been done through the Aharanov Casher like phase corresponding to this inertial system. For a time dependent acceleration, effect of $\vec{k} . \vec{p}$ perturbation on the spin current and spin polarization has also been addressed. Furthermore, achievement of a tunable source of polarized spin current through the non uniformity of the inertial spin orbit coupling strength has also been discussed.

Inertial spin Hall effect in noncommutative space

In the present paper the study of inertial spin current(that appears in an accelerated frame of reference) is extended to Non-Commutative (NC) space. The $θ$-dependence, ($θ$ being the NC parameter), of the inertial spin current is derived explicitly. We have provided yet another way of experimentally measuring $θ$. Our bound on $θ$ matches with previous results. In Hamiltonian framework, the Dirac Hamiltonian in an accelerating frame is computed in the low energy regime by exploiting the Foldy-Wouthuysen scheme. The NC $θ$-effect appears from the replacement of normal products and commutators by Moyal *-products and *-commutators. In particular, the commutator between the external magnetic vector potential and the potential induced by acceleration becomes non-trivial. Expressions for $θ$-corrected inertial spin current and conductivity are derived. The $θ$ bound is obtained from the out of plane spin polarization, which is experimentally observable.

The effect of inertia on the Dirac electron, the spin Hall current and the momentum space Berry curvature

We have studied the spin dependent force and the associated momentum space Berry curvature in an accelerating system. The results are derived by taking into consideration the non relativistic limit of a generally covariant Dirac equation under the presence of electromagnetic field where the methodology of Foldy-Wouthuysen transformation is applied to achieve the non relativistic limit. Spin currents appear due to the combined action of the external electric field, crystal field and the induced inertial electric field via the total effective spin-orbit interaction. In an accelerating frame, the crucial role of momentum space Berry curvature in the spin dynamics has also been addressed from the perspective of spin Hall conductivity. For time dependent acceleration, the expression for the spin polarization has been derived.

The geometric phase and the geometrodynamics of relativistic electron vortex beams

We have studied here the geometrodynamics of relativistic electron vortex beams from the perspective of the geometric phase associated with the scalar electron encircling the vortex line. It is pointed out that the electron vortex beam carrying orbital angular momentum is a natural consequence of the skyrmion model of a fermion. This follows from the quantization procedure of a fermion in the framework of Nelson's stochastic mechanics when a direction vector (vortex line) is introduced to depict the spin degrees of freedom. In this formalism a fermion is depicted as a scalar particle encircling a vortex line. It is here shown that when the Berry phase acquired by the scalar electron encircling the vortex line involves quantized Dirac monopole we have paraxial (non-paraxial) beam when the vortex line is parallel (orthogonal) to the wavefront propagation direction. Non-paraxial beams incorporate spin-orbit interaction. When the vortex line is tilted with respect to the propagation direction the Berry phase involves non-quantized monopole. The temporal variation of the direction of the tilted vortices is studied here taking into account the renormalization group flow of the monopole charge and it is predicted that this gives rise to spin Hall effect.
