Level crossings and new exact solutions of the two-photon Rabi model

An infinite family of exact solutions of the two-photon Rabi model was found by investigating the differential algebraic properties of the Hamiltonian. This family corresponds to energy level crossings not covered by the Juddian class, which is given by elemetary functions. In contrast, the new states are expressible in terms of parabolic cylinder or Bessel functions. We discuss three approaches for discovering this hidden structure: factorization of differential equations, Kimura transformation, and a doubly-infinite, transcendental basis of the Bargmann space.

Note on integrability of certain homogeneous Hamiltonian systems in 2D constant curvature spaces

We formulate the necessary conditions for the integrability of a certain family of Hamiltonian systems defined in the constant curvature two-dimensional spaces. Proposed form of potential can be considered as a counterpart of a homogeneous potential in flat spaces. Thanks to this property Hamilton equations admit, in a general case, a particular solution. Using this solution we derive necessary integrability conditions investigating differential Galois group of variational equations.

Thermalization in many-particle quantum walks

Many-particles quantum walks of particles obeying Bose statistics moving on graphs of various topologies are introduced. A single coin tossing commands the conditional shift operation over the whole graph. Vertices particle densities, the mean values of the phase space variables, second order spatial correlation and counting statistics are evaluated and simulated. Evidence of an universal dynamics is presented.

An exactly solvable system from quantum optics

We investigate a generalisation of the Rabi system in the Bargmann-Fock representation. In this representation the eigenproblem of the considered quantum model is described by a system of two linear differential equations with one independent variable. The system has only one irregular singular point at infinity. We show how the quantisation of the model is related to asymptotic behaviour of solutions in a vicinity of this point. The explicit formulae for the spectrum and eigenfunctions of the model follow from an analysis of the Stokes phenomenon. An interpretation of the obtained results in terms of differential Galois group of the system is also given.

Comment on "Solvability of the two-photon Rabi Hamiltonian"

An implicit formula for the spectrum of the two-photon Rabi model was presented by Travenec in Phys. Rev. A 85, 043805 (2012) in analogy to the method of Braak [Phys. Rev. Lett. 107, 100401 (2011)]. The spectrum is given by common zeros of four functions $G_c(z, E)$ taken with a fixed value of $z\in\mathbb{C}$. We point out that all the $G_c(z,E)$ functions defined by Travenec are identically zero, thus the spectrum is not in fact given by their roots.

Analytical method of spectra calculations in the Bargmann representation

We formulate a universal method for solving an arbitrary quantum system which, in the Bargmann representation, is described by a system of linear equations with one independent variable, such as one- and multi-photon Rabi models, or $N$ level systems interacting with a single mode of the electromagnetic field and their various generalizations. We explain three types of conditions that determine the spectrum and show their usage for two deformations of the Rabi model. We prove that the spectra of both models are just zeros of transcendental functions, which in one case are given explicitly in terms of confluent Heun functions.

Comment on "Nonexistence of the final first integral in the Zipoy-Voorhees space-time"

The accuracy of the numerical findings of Lukes-Gerakopoulos PRD 86, 044013 (2012), regarding the existence of additional first integrals in the Zipoy-Voorhees space-time, was recently questioned by Maciejewski et al. PRD 88, 064003 (2013). In this comment, it is shown that the discrepancy between the results of Lukes-Gerakopoulos (2012) and Maciejewski et al. (2013) is not due to issues related to numerical accuracy, as claimed in Maciejewski et al (2013), but due to different choice of coordinates used in Maciejewski et al.(2013).

Full spectrum of the Rabi model

It is shown that in the Rabi model, for an integer value of the spectral parameter $x$, in addition to the finite number of the classical Judd states there exist infinitely many possible eigenstates. These eigenstates exist if the parameters of the problem are zeros of a certain transcendental function; in other words, there are infinitely many possible choices of parameters for which integer $x$ belongs to the spectrum. Morover, it is shown that the classical Judd eigenstates appear as degenerate cases of the confluent Heun function.

Integrability of Hamiltonian systems with homogeneous potentials of degrees $\pm 2$. An application of higher order variational equations

The present work is the first of a serie of two papers, in which we analyse the higher variational equations associated to natural Hamiltonian systems, in their attempt to give Galois obstruction to their integrability. We show that the higher variational equations $VE_{p}$ for $p\geq 2$, although complicated they are, have very particular algebraic structure. Preceisely they are solvable if $VE_{1}$ is virtually Abelian since they are solvable inductively by what we call the \emph{second level integrals}. We then give necessary and sufficient conditions in terms of these second level integrals for $VE_{p}$ to be virtually Abelian (see Theorem 3.1). Then, we apply the above to potentials of degree $k=\pm 2$ by considering their $VE_{p}$ along Darboux points. And this because their $VE_{1}$ does not give any obstruction to the integrablity. In Theorem 1.2, we show that under non-resonance conditions, the only degree two integrable potential is the \emph{harmonic oscillator}. In contrast for degree -2 potentials, all the $VE_{p}$ along Darboux points are virtually Abelian (see Theorem 1.3)

Integrability of potentials of degree $k \neq \pm 2$. Second order variational equations between Kolchin solvability and Abelianity

In our previous paper: Integrability of Homogeneous potentials of degree $k = \pm 2$. An application of higher order variational equations, we tried to extract some particular structures of the higher variational equations (the ${VE}_p$ for $p >1 $), along particular solutions of some Hamiltonian systems. Then, we use them to get new Galois obstructions to the integrability of natural Hamiltonian with potential of degree $k = \pm 2$. In the present work, we apply the results of the previous paper, to the complementary cases, when the degrees of the potentials are relative integers $k$, with $|k| >2$. Since these cases are much more general and complicated, we reduce our study only to the second variational equation ${VE}_2$.

The generalized Euler-Poinsot rigid body equations: explicit elliptic solutions

The classical Euler--Poinsot case of the rigid body dynamics admits a class of simple but non-trivial integrable generalizations, which modify the Poisson equations describing the motion of the body in space. These generalizations possess first integrals which are polynomial in the angular momenta. We consider the modified Poisson equations as a system of linear equations with elliptic coefficients and show that all the solutions of it are single-valued. By using the vector generalization of the Picard theorem, we derive the solutions explicitly in terms of sigma functions of the corresponding elliptic curve. The solutions are accompanied with a numerical example. We also compare the generalized Poisson equations with % some generalizations of the classical 3rd order Halphen equation.

The inhomogeneous Suslov problem

We consider the Suslov problem of nonholonomic rigid body motion with inhomogeneous constraints. We show that if the direction along which the Suslov constraint is enforced is perpendicular to a principal axis of inertia of the body, then the reduced equations are integrable and, in the generic case, possess a smooth invariant measure. Interestingly, in this generic case, the first integral that permits integration is transcendental and the density of the invariant measure depends on the angular velocities. We also study the Painlevé property of the solutions.

On the HU Aquarii planetary system hypothesis

In this work, we investigate the eclipse timing of the polar binary HU Aquarii that has been observed for almost two decades. Recently, Qian et al. attributed large (O-C) deviations between the eclipse ephemeris and observations to a compact system of two massive jovian companions. We improve the Keplerian, kinematic model of the Light Travel Time (LTT) effect and re-analyse the whole currently available data set. We add almost 60 new, yet unpublished, mostly precision light curves obtained using the time high-resolution photo-polarimeter OPTIMA, as well as photometric observations performed at the MONET/N, PIRATE and TCS telescopes. We determine new mid--egress times with a mean uncertainty at the level of 1 second or better. We claim that because the observations that currently exist in the literature are non-homogeneous with respect to spectral windows (ultraviolet, X-ray, visual, polarimetric mode) and the reported mid--egress measurements errors, they may introduce systematics that affect orbital fits. Indeed, we find that the published data, when taken literally, cannot be explained by any unique solution. Many qualitatively different and best-fit 2-planet configurations, including self-consistent, Newtonian N-body solutions may be able to explain the data. However, using high resolution, precision OPTIMA light curves, we find that the (O-C) deviations are best explained by the presence of a single circumbinary companion orbiting at a distance of ~4.5 AU with a small eccentricity and having ~7 Jupiter-masses. This object could be the next circumbinary planet detected from the ground, similar to the announced companions around close binaries HW Vir, NN Ser, UZ For, DP Leo or SZ Her, and planets of this type around Kepler-16, Kepler-34 and Kepler-35.

Necessary conditions for classical super-integrability of a certain family of potentials in constant curvature spaces

We formulate the necessary conditions for the maximal super-integrability of a certain family of classical potentials defined in the constant curvature two-dimensional spaces. We give examples of homogeneous potentials of degree -2 on $E^2$ as well as their equivalents on $S^2$ and $H^2$ for which these necessary conditions are also sufficient. We show explicit forms of the additional first integrals which always can be chosen polynomial with respect to the momenta and which can be of an arbitrary high degree with respect to the momenta.

Differential Galois theory and Integrability

This paper is an overview of our works which are related to investigations of the integrability of natural Hamiltonian systems with homogeneous potentials and Newton's equations with homogeneous velocity independent forces. The two types of integrability obstructions for these systems are presented. The first, local ones, are related to the analysis of the differential Galois group of variational equations along a non-equilibrium particular solution. The second, global ones, are obtained from the simultaneous analysis of variational equations related to all particular solutions belonging to a certain class. The marriage of these two types of the integrability obstructions enables to realise the classification programme of all integrable homogeneous systems. The main steps of the integrability analysis for systems with two and more degrees of freedom as well as new integrable systems are shown.

Integrability of natural Hamiltonian systems with homogeneous potentials of degree zero

We derive necessary conditions for integrability in the Liouville sense of natural Hamiltonian systems with homogeneous potential of degree zero. We derive these conditions through an analysis of the differential Galois group of variational equations along a particular solution generated by a non-zero solution $\vd\in\C^n$ of nonlinear equations $\grad V(\vd)=\vd$. We proved that if the system integrable then the Hessian matrix $V''(\vd)$ has only integer eigenvalues and is semi-simple.

Jordan obstruction to the integrability of Hamiltonian systems with homogeneous potentials

In this paper, we consider the natural complex Hamiltonian systems with homogeneous potential $V(q)$, $q\in\C^n$, of degree $k\in\Z^\star$. The known results of Morales and Ramis give necessary conditions for the complete integrability of such systems. These conditions are expressed in terms of the eigenvalues of the Hessian matrix $V"(c)$ calculated at a non-zero point $c\in\C^n$, such that $V'(c)=c$. The main aim of this paper is to show that there are other obstructions for the integrability which appear if the matrix $V"(c)$ is not diagonalizable. We prove, among other things, that if $V"(c)$ contains a Jordan block of size greater than two, then the system is not integrable in the Liouville sense. The main ingredient in the proof of this result consists in translating some ideas of Kronecker about Abelian extensions of number fields into the framework of differential Galois theory.

Relative equilibria in the unrestricted problem of a sphere and symmetric rigid body

We consider the unrestricted problem of two mutually attracting rigid bodies, an uniform sphere (or a point mass) and an axially symmetric body. We present a global, geometric approach for finding all relative equilibria (stationary solutions) in this model, which was already studied by Kinoshita (1970). We extend and generalize his results, showing that the equilibria solutions may be found by solving at most two non-linear, algebraic equations, assuming that the potential function of the symmetric rigid body is known explicitly. We demonstrate that there are three classes of the relative equilibria, which we call "cylindrical", "inclined co-planar", and "conic" precessions, respectively. Moreover, we also show that in the case of conic precession, although the relative orbit is circular, the point-mass and the mass center of the body move in different parallel planes. This solution has been yet not known in the literature.

The Poisson equations in the nonholonomic Suslov problem: Integrability, meromorphic and hypergeometric solutions

We consider the problem of integrability of the Poisson equations describing spatial motion of a rigid body in the classical nonholonomic Suslov problem. We obtain necessary conditions for their solutions to be meromorphic and show that under some further restrictions these conditions are also sufficient. The latter lead to a family of explicit meromorphic solutions, which correspond to rather special motions of the body in space. We also give explicit extra polynomial integrals in this case. In the more general case (but under one restriction), the Poisson equations are transformed into a generalized third order hypergeometric equation. A study of its monodromy group allows us also to calculate the "scattering" angle: the angle between the axes of limit permanent rotations of the body in space.

Differential Galois obstructions for non-commutative integrability

We show that if a holomorphic Hamiltonian system is holomorphically integrable in the non-commutative sense in a neighbourhood of a non-equilibrium phase curve which is located at a regular level of the first integrals, then the identity component of the differential Galois group of the variational equations along the phase curve is Abelian. Thus necessary conditions for the commutative and non-commutative integrability given by the differential Galois approach are the same.

Darboux Polynomials and First Integrals of Natural Polynomial Hamiltonian Systems

We show that for a natural polynomial Hamiltonian system the existence of a single Darboux polynomial (a partial polynomial first integral) is equivalent to the existence of an additional first integral functionally independent with the Hamiltonian function. Moreover, we show that, in a case when the degree of potential is odd, the system does not admit any proper Darboux polynomial, i.e., the only Darboux polynomials are first integrals.

On the Integrability of Bianchi Cosmological Models

In this work, we are investigating the problem of integrability of Bianchi class A cosmological models. This class of systems is reduced to the form of Hamiltonian systems with exponential potential forms. The dynamics of Bianchi class A models is investigated through the Euler-Lagrange equations and geodesic equations in the Jacobi metric. On this basis, we have come to some general conclusions concerning the evolution of the volume function of 3-space of constant time. The formal and general form of this function has been found. It can serve as a controller during numerical calculations of the dynamics of cosmological models. The integrability of cosmological models is also discussed from the points of view of different integrability criterions. We show that dimension of phase space of Bianchi class A Hamiltonian systems can be reduced by two. We prove vector field of the reduced system is polynomial and it does not admit any analytic, or even formal first integral.
