Level crossings and new exact solutions of the two-photon Rabi model

An infinite family of exact solutions of the two-photon Rabi model was found by investigating the differential algebraic properties of the Hamiltonian. This family corresponds to energy level crossings not covered by the Juddian class, which is given by elemetary functions. In contrast, the new states are expressible in terms of parabolic cylinder or Bessel functions. We discuss three approaches for discovering this hidden structure: factorization of differential equations, Kimura transformation, and a doubly-infinite, transcendental basis of the Bargmann space.

Analysis of constrained 2-body problem

We consider the system of two material points that interact by elastic forces according to Hooke's law and their motion is restricted to certain curves lying on the plane. The nonintegrability of this system and idea of the proof are communicated. Moreover, the analysis of global dynamics by means of Poincaré cross sections is given and local analysis in the neighborhood of an equilibrium is performed by applying the Birkhoff normal form. Conditions of linear stability are determined and some particular periodic solutions are identified.

An exactly solvable system from quantum optics

We investigate a generalisation of the Rabi system in the Bargmann-Fock representation. In this representation the eigenproblem of the considered quantum model is described by a system of two linear differential equations with one independent variable. The system has only one irregular singular point at infinity. We show how the quantisation of the model is related to asymptotic behaviour of solutions in a vicinity of this point. The explicit formulae for the spectrum and eigenfunctions of the model follow from an analysis of the Stokes phenomenon. An interpretation of the obtained results in terms of differential Galois group of the system is also given.

Comment on "Solvability of the two-photon Rabi Hamiltonian"

An implicit formula for the spectrum of the two-photon Rabi model was presented by Travenec in Phys. Rev. A 85, 043805 (2012) in analogy to the method of Braak [Phys. Rev. Lett. 107, 100401 (2011)]. The spectrum is given by common zeros of four functions $G_c(z, E)$ taken with a fixed value of $z\in\mathbb{C}$. We point out that all the $G_c(z,E)$ functions defined by Travenec are identically zero, thus the spectrum is not in fact given by their roots.

Non-integrability of restricted double pendula

We consider two special types of double pendula, with the motion of masses restricted to various surfaces. In order to get quick insight into the dynamics of the considered systems the Poincaré cross sections as well as bifurcation diagrams have been used. The numerical computations show that both models are chaotic which suggest that they are not integrable. We give an analytic proof of this fact checking the properties of the differential Galois group of the system's variational equations along a particular non-equilibrium solution.

Analytical method of spectra calculations in the Bargmann representation

We formulate a universal method for solving an arbitrary quantum system which, in the Bargmann representation, is described by a system of linear equations with one independent variable, such as one- and multi-photon Rabi models, or $N$ level systems interacting with a single mode of the electromagnetic field and their various generalizations. We explain three types of conditions that determine the spectrum and show their usage for two deformations of the Rabi model. We prove that the spectra of both models are just zeros of transcendental functions, which in one case are given explicitly in terms of confluent Heun functions.

Comment on "Nonexistence of the final first integral in the Zipoy-Voorhees space-time"

The accuracy of the numerical findings of Lukes-Gerakopoulos PRD 86, 044013 (2012), regarding the existence of additional first integrals in the Zipoy-Voorhees space-time, was recently questioned by Maciejewski et al. PRD 88, 064003 (2013). In this comment, it is shown that the discrepancy between the results of Lukes-Gerakopoulos (2012) and Maciejewski et al. (2013) is not due to issues related to numerical accuracy, as claimed in Maciejewski et al (2013), but due to different choice of coordinates used in Maciejewski et al.(2013).

Full spectrum of the Rabi model

It is shown that in the Rabi model, for an integer value of the spectral parameter $x$, in addition to the finite number of the classical Judd states there exist infinitely many possible eigenstates. These eigenstates exist if the parameters of the problem are zeros of a certain transcendental function; in other words, there are infinitely many possible choices of parameters for which integer $x$ belongs to the spectrum. Morover, it is shown that the classical Judd eigenstates appear as degenerate cases of the confluent Heun function.

On integrable rational potentials of the Dirac equation

The one dimensional Dirac equation with a rational potential is reducible to an ordinary differential equation with a Riccati-like coefficient. Its integrability can be studied with the help of differential Galois theory, although the results have to be stated with recursive relations, because in general the equation is of Heun type. The inverse problem of finding integrable rational potentials based on the properties of the singular points is also presented; in particular, a general class of integrable potentials leading to the Whittaker equation is found.

A differential algorithm for the Lyapunov spectrum

We present a new algorithm for computing the Lyapunov exponents spectrum based on a matrix differential equation. The approach belongs to the so called continuous type, where the rate of expansion of perturbations is obtained for all times, and the exponents are reached as the limit at infinity. It does not involve exponentially divergent quantities so there is no need of rescaling or realigning of the solution. We show the algorithm's advantages and drawbacks using mainly the example of a particle moving between two contracting walls.

Vortex in axion condensate as a dark matter halo

We study the possibility of the vortices formation in axion condensate on the galactic scale. Such vortices can occur as a result of global rotation of the early universe. We study analytical models of vortices and calculate exemplary galaxy rotation curves. Depending on the setup it is possible to obtain a variety of shapes which give a good qualitative agreement with observational results. However, as we show, the extremely low velocity dispersions of the axions velocity are required to form the single vortex on the galactic scales. We find that the required velocity dispersion is of the order of $σ\approx 10^{-12} \frac{m}{s}$. This is much smaller that predicted within the present understanding of the axion physics. The vortices in axion condensate can be however formed on the much smaller scales and give seeds to the galaxy formation and to their angular momenta. On the other hand, the vortices can be formed on the galactic scales, but only if the mass of the axion-like particles is of the order of $10^{-30}$eV. In this case, the particle de Broglie wavelength is comparable with the galactic diameter. This condition must be fulfilled in order to keep the coherence of the quantum condensate on the galactic scales.
