Completeness and reflexivity type properties of $B_1(X)$

For a Tychonoff space $X$, $B_1(X)$ denotes the space of all Baire-one functions on $X$ endowed with the pointwise topology. We prove that the following assertions are equivalent: (1) $B_1(X)$ is a (semi-)Montel space, (2) $B_1(X)$ is a (semi-)reflexive space, (3) $B_1(X)$ is a (quasi-)complete space, (4) $B_1(X)=\mathbb{R}^X$, (5) $X$ is a $Q_f$-space. It is proved that $B_1(X)$ is sequentially complete iff $B_1(X)$ is locally complete iff $X$ is a $CZ$-space. In the case when $K$ is a compact space, we show that $B_1(K)$ is locally complete iff $K$ is scattered. We thoroughly study the case when $X$ is a separable metrizable space. Numerous distinguished examples are given.

Baire property of some function spaces

A compact space $X$ is called $π$-monolithic if for any surjective continuous mapping $f:X\rightarrow K$ where $K$ is a metrizable compact space there exists a metrizable compact space $T\subseteq X$ such that $f(T)=K$. A topological space $X$ is Baire if the intersection of any sequence of open dense subsets of $X$ is dense in $X$. Let $C_p(X,Y)$ denote the space of all continuous $Y$- valued functions $C(X,Y)$ on a Tychonoff space $X$ with the topology of pointwise convergence. In this paper we have proved that for a totally disconnected space $X$ the space $C_p(X,\{0,1\})$ is Baire if, and only if, $C_p(X,K)$ is Baire for every $π$-monolithic compact space $K$. For a Tychonoff space $X$ the space $C_p(X)$ is Baire if, and only if, $C_p(X,L)$ is Baire for each Frechet space $L$. We construct a totally disconnected Tychonoff space $T$ such that $C_p(T,M)$ is Baire for a separable metric space $M$ if, and only if, $M$ is a Peano continuum. Moreover, $C_p(T,[0,1])$ is Baire but $Cp(T,\{0,1\})$ is not.

Baire property of spaces of $[0,1]$-valued continuous functions

A topological space $X$ is Baire if the intersection of any sequence of open dense subsets of $X$ is dense in $X$. Let $C_p(X,[0,1])$ denote the space of all continuous $[0,1]$-valued functions on a Tychonoff space $X$ with the topology of pointwise convergence. In this paper, we have obtained a characterization when the function space $C_p(X,[0,1])$ is Baire for a Tychonoff space $X$ all separable closed subsets of which are $C$-embedded. In particular, this characterization is true for normal spaces and, hence, for metrizable spaces. Moreover, we obtained that the space $C_p(X,[0,1])$ is Baire, if and only if, the space $Cp(X,K)$ is Baire for a Peano continuum $K$.

Baireness of the space of pointwise stabilizing functions of the first Baire class

A topological space $X$ is Baire if the Baire Category Theorem holds for $X$, i.e., the intersection of any sequence of open dense subsets of $X$ is dense in $X$. In this paper, we have obtained that the space $B^{st}_1(X)$ of pointwise stabilizing Baire-one functions is Baire if the space $B_1(X)$ of Baire-one functions is so. This answers a question posed recently by T. Banakh and S. Gabriyelyan.

Every metric space of weight $λ=λ^{\aleph_0}$ admits a condensation onto a Banach space

In this paper, we have proved that for each cardinal number $λ$ such that $λ=λ^{\aleph_0}$ a metric space of weight $λ$ admits a bijective continuous mapping onto a Banach space of weight $λ$. Then, we get that every metric space of weight continuum admits a bijective continuous mapping onto the Hilbert cube. This resolves the famous Banach's Problem (when does a metric (possibly Banach) space $X$ admit a bijective continuous mapping onto a compact metric space?) in the class of metric spaces of weight continuum. Also we get that every metric space of weight $λ=λ^{\aleph_0}$ admits a bijective continuous mapping onto a Hausdorff compact space. This resolves the Alexandroff Problem (when does a Hausdorff space $X$ admit a bijective continuous mapping onto a Hausdorff compact space?) in the class of metric spaces of weight $λ=λ^{\aleph_0}$.

Mildly version of Hurewicz Basis covering property and Hurewicz measure zero spaces

In this paper, we introduced the mildly version of the Hurewicz basis covering property, studied by Babinkostova, Kočinac, and Scheepers. A space $X$ is said to have mildly-Hurewicz property if for each sequence $\langle \mathcal{U}_n : n\in ω\rangle$ of clopen covers of $X$ there is a sequence $\langle \mathcal{V}_n : n\in ω\rangle$ such that for each $n$, $\mathcal{V}_n$ is a finite subset of $\mathcal{U}_n$ and for each $x\in X$, $x$ belongs to $\bigcup\mathcal{V}_n$ for all but finitely many $n$. Then we characterized mildly-Hurewicz property by mildly-Hurewicz Basis property and mildly-Hurewicz measure zero property for metrizable spaces.

Note on the Banach Problem 1 of condensations of Banach spaces onto compacta

It is consistent with any possible value of the continuum $\mathfrak{c}$ that every infinite-dimensional Banach space of density $\leq \mathfrak{c}$ condenses onto the Hilbert cube. Let $μ$ be a cardinal of uncountable cofinality. It is consistent that the continuum be arbitrary large, no Banach space $X$ of density $γ$, $μ< γ< \mathfrak{c}$ condenses onto a compactum, but any Banach space of density $μ$ admit a condensation onto a compactum. In particular, for $μ=ω_1$, it is consistent that $\mathfrak{c}$ is arbitrarily large, no Banach space of density $γ$, $ω_1< γ< \mathfrak{c}$, condenses onto a compactum. These results imply a complete answer to the Problem 1 in the Scottish Book for Banach spaces: When does a Banach space X admit a bijective continuous mapping onto a compact metric space?

Some observations on the mildly Menger property and topological games

In this paper, we defined two new games - the mildly Menger game and the compact-clopen game. In a zero-dimensional space, the Menger game is equivalent to the mildly Menger game and the compact-open game is equivalent to the compact-clopen game. An example is given for a space on which the mildly Menger game is undetermined. Also we introduced a new game namely K-quasi-component-clopen game and proved that this game is equivalent to the compact-clopen game. Then we proved that if a topological space is a union of countably many quasi-components of compact sets, then TWO has a winning strategy in the mildly Menger game.

Spaces of Real Functions, Covers and Dense Subsets

In paper we study relationships between covering properties of a topological space $X$ and the space $(USC^*(X),τ_{\mathcal{B}})$ of bounded upper semicontinuous functions on $X$ with the topology $τ_{\mathcal{B}}$ defined by the bornology $\mathcal{B}$ on $X$. We present characterizations of various local properties of $(USC^*(X),τ_{\mathcal{B}})$ in terms of selection principles related to bornological covers of $X$. We also investigate topological properties of sequences of upper dense and upper sequentially dense subsets of $(USC^*(X),τ_{\mathcal{B}})$.

On generalization of theorems of Pestryakov

In 1987, A.V. Pestryakov proved a series of theorems for cardinal functions of the space $B_α(X)$ of all real-valued functions of Baire class $α$ $(α> 0)$, and he conjectured that most of these theorems are true for spaces containing all finite linear combinations of characteristic functions of zero-sets in $X$. In this paper we investigate for which theorems of Pestriakov generalizations are valid. Also we prove some additional propositions for function spaces applying the theory of selection principles.

On homeomorphism groups and the set-open topology

In this paper we focus on the set-open topologies on the group $\mathcal{H}(X)$ of all self-homeomorphisms of a topological space $X$ which yield continuity of both the group operations, product and inverse function. As a consequence, we make the more general case of Dijkstra's theorem. In this case a homogeneously encircling family $\mathcal{B}$ consists of regular open sets and the closure of every set from $\mathcal{B}$ is contained in the finite union of connected sets from $\mathcal{B}$. Also we proved that the zero-cozero topology of $\mathcal{H}(X)$ is the relativisation to $\mathcal{H}(X)$ of the compact-open topology of $\mathcal{H}(βX)$ for any Tychonoff space $X$ and every homogeneous zero-dimensional space $X$ can be represented as the quotient space of a topological group with respect to a closed subgroup.

On regular $κ$-bounded spaces admitting only constant continuous mappings into $T_1$ spaces of pseudo-character $\leq κ$

In this paper for each cardinal $κ$ we construct an infinite $κ$-bounded (and hence countably compact) regular space $R_κ$ such that for any $T_1$ space $Y$ of pseudo-character $\leqκ$, each continuous function $f:R_κ\rightarrow Y$ is constant. This result resolves two problems posted by Tzannes in Open Problems from Topology Proceedings and extends results of Ciesielski and Wojciechowski and Herrlich.

Projective versions of the properties in the Scheepers Diagram

Let $\mathcal{P}$ be a topological property. A.V. Arhangel'skii calls $X$ projectively $\mathcal{P}$ if every second countable continuous image of $X$ is $\mathcal{P}$. Lj.D.R. Ko$\check{c}$inac characterized the classical covering properties of Menger, Rothberger, Hurewicz and Gerlits-Nagy in term of continuous images in $\mathbb{R}^ω$. In this paper we study the functional characterizations of all projective versions of the selection properties in the Scheepers Diagram.

Topological properties of some function spaces

Let $Y$ be a metrizable space containing at least two points, and let $X$ be a $Y_{\mathcal{I}}$-Tychonoff space for some ideal $\mathcal{I}$ of compact sets of $X$. Denote by $C_{\mathcal{I}}(X,Y)$ the space of continuous functions from $X$ to $Y$ endowed with the $\mathcal{I}$-open topology. We prove that $C_{\mathcal{I}}(X,Y)$ is Fréchet - Urysohn iff $X$ has the property $γ_{\mathcal{I}}$. We characterize zero - dimensional Tychonoff spaces $X$ for which the space $C_{\mathcal{I}}(X,{\bf 2})$ is sequential. Extending the classical theorems of Gerlits, Nagy and Pytkeev we show that if $Y$ is not compact, then $C_{p}(X,Y)$ is Fréchet - Urysohn iff it is sequential iff it is a $k$-space iff $X$ has the property $γ$. An analogous result is obtained for the space of bounded continuous functions taking values in a metrizable locally convex space. Denote by $B_{1}(X,Y)$ and $B(X,Y)$ the space of Baire one functions and the space of all Baire functions from $X$ to $Y$, respectively. If $H$ is a subspace of $B(X,Y)$ containing $B_{1}(X,Y)$, then $H$ is metrizable iff it is a $σ$ - space iff it has countable $cs^*$ - character iff $X$ is countable. If additionally $Y$ is not compact, then $H$ is Fréchet - Urysohn iff it is sequential iff it is a $k$ - space iff it has countable tightness iff $X_{\aleph_0}$ has the property $γ$, where $X_{\aleph_0}$ is the space $X$ with the Baire topology. We show that if $X$ is a Polish space, then the space $B_{1}(X,\mathbb{R})$ is normal iff $X$ is countable.

Uniformity of uniform convergence on the family of sets

We prove that for every Hausdorff space X and any uniform quadra space (Y,U) the topology on C(X,Y) induced by the uniformity U| of uniform convergence on the saturation family L coincides with the set-open topology on C(X,Y). In particular, for every pseudocompact space X and any metrizable topological vector space Y with uniform U the topology on C(X,Y) induced by the uniformity U| of uniform convergence coincides with the C-compact-open topology on C(X,Y), and depends only on the topology induced on Y by the uniformity U. It is also shown that in the class closed-homogeneous complete uniform spaces Y necessary condition for coincidence of topologies is Y-compactness of elements of family L.

Some properties of minimal S(α) and S(α)FC spaces

A S(n)-space is S(n)-functionally compact (S(n)FC) if every continuous function onto a S(n)-space is closed. S(n)-closed, S(n)-θ-closed, minimal S(n) and S(n)FC spaces are characterized in terms of θ(n)-complete accumulation points. In paper we also give new characteristics of R-closed and regular functionally compact spaces. Results obtained to answer some questions raised by D.Dikranjan, E.Giuli, L.Friedler, M.Girou, D.Pettey and J.Porter.
