Bézier Flow: a Surface-wise Gradient Descent Method for Multi-objective Optimization

In this paper, we propose a strategy to construct a multi-objective optimization algorithm from a single-objective optimization algorithm by using the Bézier simplex model. Also, we extend the stability of optimization algorithms in the sense of Probability Approximately Correct (PAC) learning and define the PAC stability. We prove that it leads to an upper bound on the generalization with high probability. Furthermore, we show that multi-objective optimization algorithms derived from a gradient descent-based single-objective optimization algorithm are PAC stable. We conducted numerical experiments and demonstrated that our method achieved lower generalization errors than the existing multi-objective optimization algorithm.

An extension of the cell-construction method for the flat-band ferromagnetism

We present an extension of the cell-construction method for the flat-band ferromagnetism. In a rather general setting, we construct Hubbard models with highly degenerate single-electron ground states and obtain a formal representation of these single-electron ground states. By our version of the cell-construction method, various types of flat-band Hubbard models, including the one on line graphs, can be designed and shown to have the unique ferromagnetic ground states when the electron number is equal to the degeneracy of the single-electron ground states.

Self-learning Monte Carlo method with Behler-Parrinello neural networks

We propose a general way to construct an effective Hamiltonian in the Self-learning Monte Carlo method (SLMC), which speeds up Monte Carlo simulations by training an effective model to propose uncorrelated configurations in the Markov chain. Its applications are, however, limited. This is because it is not obvious to find the explicit form of the effective Hamiltonians. Particularly, it is difficult to make trainable effective Hamiltonians including many-body interactions. In order to overcome this critical difficulty, we introduce the Behler-Parrinello neural networks (BPNNs) as "effective Hamiltonian'' without any prior knowledge, which is used to construct the potential-energy surfaces in interacting many particle systems for molecular dynamics. We combine SLMC with BPNN by focusing on a divisibility of Hamiltonian and propose how to construct the element-wise configurations. We apply it to quantum impurity models. We observed significant improvement of the acceptance ratio from 0.01 (the effective Hamiltonian with the explicit form) to 0.76 (BPNN). This drastic improvement implies that the BPNN effective Hamiltonian includes many body interaction, which is omitted in the effective Hamiltonian with the explicit forms. The BPNNs make SLMC more promising.

Deep Learning and Holographic QCD

We apply the relation between deep learning (DL) and the AdS/CFT correspondence to a holographic model of QCD. Using a lattice QCD data of the chiral condensate at a finite temperature as our training data, the deep learning procedure holographically determines an emergent bulk metric as neural network weights. The emergent bulk metric is found to have both a black hole horizon and a finite-height IR wall, so shares both the confining and deconfining phases, signaling the cross-over thermal phase transition of QCD. In fact, a quark antiquark potential holographically calculated by the emergent bulk metric turns out to possess both the linear confining part and the Debye screening part, as is often observed in lattice QCD. From this we argue the discrepancy between the chiral symmetry breaking and the quark confinement in the holographic QCD. The DL method is shown to provide a novel data-driven holographic modeling of QCD, and sheds light on the mechanism of emergence of the bulk geometries in the AdS/CFT correspondence.

Abelian 3d mirror symmetry on $\mathbb{RP}^2 \times \mathbb{S}^1$ with $N_f=1$

We consider a new 3d superconformal index defined as the path integral over $\mathbb{RP}^2 \times \mathbb{S}^1$, and get the generic formula for this index with arbitrary number of U$(1)$ gauge symmetries via the localization technique. We find two consistent parity conditions for the vector multiplet, and name them $\mathcal{P}$ and $\mathcal{CP}$. We find an interesting phenomenon that two matter multiplets coupled to the $\mathcal{CP}$-type vector multiplet merge together. By using this effect, we investigate the simplest version of 3d mirror symmetry on $\mathbb{RP}^2 \times \mathbb{S}^1$ and observe four types of coincidence between the SQED and the XYZ model. We find that merging two matters plays an important role for the agreement.

Comments on SUSY Exact Action in 3D Supergravity

We consider 2+1 dimensional off-shell N = 1 pure supergravity that is constructed from graviton, gravitino and auxiliary field. We show that the $R^2$ supersymmetric invariant and $R^2_{μν}$ supersymmetric invariant are expressed as local supersymmetric exact terms up to mass terms for gravitino. In both cases, the mass parameter is proportional to the off-shell supersymmetric cosmological constant.

Metallic ferromagnetism supported by a single band in a multi-band Hubbard model

We construct a multi-band Hubbard model on the lattice obtained by "decorating" a closely packed $d$-dimensional lattice $\mathcal{M}$ (such as the triangular lattice) where $d\ge2$. We take the limits in which the Coulomb interaction and the band gap become infinitely large. Then there remains only a single band with finite energy, on which electrons are supported. Let the electron number be $N_\mathrm{e}=|\mathcal{M}|-N_\mathrm{h}$, where $|\mathcal{M}|$ corresponds to the electron number which makes the lowest (finite energy) band half-filled, and $N_\mathrm{h}$ is the number of "holes". It is expected that the model exhibits metallic ferromagnetism if $N_\mathrm{h}/|\mathcal{M}|$ is nonvanishing but sufficiently small. We prove that the ground states exhibit saturated ferromagnetism if $N_\mathrm{h}\le(\text{const.})|\mathcal{M}|^{2/(d+2)}$, and exhibit (not necessarily saturated) ferromagnetism if $N_\mathrm{h}\le(\mathrm{const.})|\mathcal{M}|^{(d+1)/(d+2)}$. This may be regarded as a rigorous example of metallic ferromagnetism provided that the system size $|\mathcal{M}|$ is not too large.

One-dimensional extended Hubbard model with spin-triplet pairing ground states

We show that the one-dimensional extended Hubbard model has saturated ferromagnetic ground states with the spin-triplet electron pair condensation in a certain range of parameters. The ground state wave functions with fixed electron numbers are explicitly obtained. We also construct two ground states in which both the spin-rotation and the gauge symmetries are broken, and show that these states are transferred from one to the other by applying the edge operators. The edge operators are reduced to the Majorana fermions in a special case. These symmetry breaking ground states are shown to be stabilized by a superconducting mean field Hamiltonian which is related to the Kitaev chain with the charge-charge interaction.

Varieties of Abelian mirror symmetry on $\mathbb{RP}^2 \times \mathbb{S}^1$

We study 3d mirror symmetry with loop operators, Wilson loop and Vortex loop, and multi-flavor mirror symmetry through utilizing the $\mathbb{RP}^2 \times \mathbb{S}^1$ index formula. The key identity which makes the above description work well is the mod 2 version of the Fourier analysis, and we study such structure, the S-operation in the context of a SL$(2,\mathbb{Z})$ action on 3d SCFTs. We observed that two types of the parity conditions basically associated with gauge symmetries which we call $\mathcal{P}$-type and $\mathcal{CP}$-type are interchanged under mirror symmetry. We will also comment on the T-operation.

Exact Path Integral for 3D Quantum Gravity

Three dimensional Euclidean pure gravity with a negative cosmological constant can be formulated in terms of the Chern-Simons theory, classically. This theory can be written in a supersymmetric way by introducing auxiliary gauginos and scalars. We calculate the exact partition function of this Chern-Simons theory by using the localization technique. Thus, we obtain the quantum gravity partition function, assuming that it can be obtained non-perturbatively by summing over partition functions of the Chern-Simons theory on topologically different manifolds. The resultant partition function is modular invariant, and in the case in which the central charge is expected to be 24, it is the J-function, predicted by Witten.

Exact Path Integral for 3D Quantum Gravity II

Continuing the work arXiv:1504.05991, we discuss various aspects of three dimensional quantum gravity partition function in AdS in the semi-classical limit. The partition function is holomorphic and is the one which we obtained by using the localization technique of Chern-Simons theory in arXiv:1504.05991. We obtain a good expression for it in the summation form over Virasoro characters for the vacuum and primaries. A key ingredient for that is an interpretation of boundary localized fermion. We also check that the coefficients in the summation form over Virasoro characters of the partition function are positive integers and satisfy the Cardy formula. These give physical interpretation that these coefficients represent the number of primary fields in the dual CFT in the large k limit.

Superconformal index on $\mathbb{RP}^2 \times \mathbb{S}^1$ and mirror symmetry

We study $\mathcal{N} = 2$ supersymmetric gauge theories on $\mathbb{RP}^2 \times \mathbb{S}^1$ and compute the superconformal index by using the localization technique. We consider not only the round real projective plane $\mathbb{RP}^2$ but also the squashed real projective plane $\mathbb{RP}^2_b$ which turns back to $\mathbb{RP}^2$ by taking a squashing parameter $b$ as $1$. In addition, we found that the result is independent of the squashing parameter $b$. We apply our new superconformal index to the check of the simplest 3d mirror symmetry, i.e. the equivalence between the $\mathcal{N}=2$ SQED and the XYZ model on $\mathbb{RP}^2 \times \mathbb{S}^1$. We prove it by using a mathematical formula called the $q$-binomial theorem. We comment on the $\mathcal{N}=4$ version of mirror symmetry, mirror symmetry via generalized indices, and possibilities of generalizations from mathematical viewpoints.

Symmetry breaking caused by large R-charge

We discuss the gauge symmetry breaking via the Hosotani mechanism by using exact results on supersymmetric gauge theories based on the localization method. We use the theories on S^2 x S^1 Euclidean space, and study how the effective potential for the Wilson line phase varies by running an imaginary chemical potential. In order to break the symmetry, we find that large R-charge is necessary. With such large R-charge, we study the phase structure of the theory. In addition, we observed that a finite size effect on our curved space when we take R-charge is not so large.

Comments on knotted 1/2 BPS Wilson loops

In this paper, we show that the localization of three-dimensional N = 2 supersymmetric Chern-Simons theory on the ellipsoid-like squashed sphere is related to a nontrivial knot structure called torus knot. More precisely, we can capture the three sphere as the nontrivial so-called Seifert fibrations by regarding 1/2 BPS Wilson loops as U(1) fibers. The topology of knotted 1/2 BPS Wilson loops is controlled by squashing parameters. We calculate the 1/2 BPS condition of the Wilson loop and find perfect agreement with known results. We also remark on the level shift and framing anomaly.

Localization on round sphere revisited

We consider supersymmetric gauge theories on round 3-sphere with a certain background gauge field. The Lagrangians break the usual symmetry because the background gauge field which we have turned on violates the isometry. In order to maintain the supersymmetry, we choose unfamiliar charged Killing spinors as N = 2 SUSY parameters. We perform localization calculous within this setup and find the double sine function as we expected. We comment on more direct relationship between theories on round sphere and squashed sphere via Weyl transformation.

Nagaoka states in the SU($n$) Hubbard model

We present an extension of Nagaoka's theorem in the SU($n$) generalization of the infinite-$U$ Hubbard model. It is shown that, when there is exactly one hole, the fully polarized states analogous to the ferromagnetic states in the SU(2) Hubbard model are ground states. For a restricted class of models satisfying the connectivity condition, these fully polarized states are the unique ground states up to the trivial degeneracy due to the SU($n$) symmetry. We also give examples of lattices in which the connectivity condition can be verified explicitly. The examples include the triangular, kagome, and hypercubic lattices in $d (\ge 2)$ dimensions, among which the cases of $d=2$ and 3 are experimentally realizable in ultracold atomic gases loaded into optical lattices.

Ferromagnetism in the Hubbard model with Topological/Non-Topological Flat Bands

We introduce and study two classes of Hubbard models with magnetic flux or with spin-orbit coupling, which have a flat lowest band separated from other bands by a nonzero gap. We study the Chern number of the flat bands, and find that it is zero for the first class but can be nontrivial in the second. We also prove that the introduction of on-site Coulomb repulsion leads to ferromagnetism in both the classes.

Effect of on-site Coulomb repulsion on phase transitions in exactly solved spin-electron model

A hybrid lattice-statistical model on doubly decorated planar lattices, which have localized Ising spins at their nodal lattice sites and two itinerant electrons at each pair of decorating sites, is exactly solved by the use of a generalized decoration-iteration transformation. Our main attention is focused on an in uence of the on-site Coulomb repulsion on ground-state properties and critical behavior of the investigated system.

Exact evidence for the spontaneous antiferromagnetic long-range order in the two-dimensional hybrid model of localized Ising spins and itinerant electrons

The generalized decoration-iteration transformation is adopted to treat exactly a hybrid model of doubly decorated two-dimensional lattices, which have localized Ising spins at their nodal lattice sites and itinerant electrons delocalized over pairs of decorating sites. Under the assumption of a half filling of each couple of the decorating sites, the investigated model system exhibits a remarkable spontaneous antiferromagnetic long-range order with an obvious quantum reduction of the staggered magnetization. It is shown that the critical temperature of the spontaneously long-range ordered quantum antiferromagnet displays an outstanding non-monotonic dependence on a ratio between the kinetic term and the Ising-type exchange interaction.

Phase transitions in exactly solvable decorated model of localized Ising spins and itinerant electrons

A hybrid lattice-statistical model of doubly decorated two-dimensional lattices, which have localized Ising spins at its nodal sites and itinerant electrons delocalized over decorating sites, is exactly solved with the help of a generalized decoration-iteration transformation. Under the assumption of a quarter filling of each couple of the decorating sites, the ground state constitutes either spontaneously long-range ordered ferromagnetic or ferrimagnetic phase in dependence on whether the ferromagnetic or antiferromagnetic interaction between the localized Ising spins and itinerant electrons is considered. The critical temperature of the spontaneously long-range ordered phases monotonically increases upon strengthening the ratio between the kinetic term and the Ising-type exchange interaction.

Metallic ferromagnetism in the Hubbard model: A rigorous example

We present the first rigorous example of the Hubbard model in any dimensions which exhibits metallic ferromagnetism. The model is a genuine Hubbard model with short-range hopping and on-site Coulomb repulsion, and has multi single-electron bands. In the limit where the band gap and the Coulomb repulsion become infinite, we prove that the ground states are completely ferromagnetic and at the same time conducting.
