Long-distance heat transfer between molecular systems through a hybrid plasmonic-photonic nanoresonator

We introduce a hybrid plasmonic-photonic cavity setup that can be used to induce and control long-distance heat transfer between molecular systems through optomechanical interactions. The structure consists of two separated plasmonic nanoantennas coupled to a dielectric cavity. The hybrid modes of this resonator can combine the large optomechanical coupling of the sub-wavelength plasmonic modes with the large quality factor and delocalized character of the cavity mode that extends over a large distance ($\simμ$m). We show that this can lead to effective long-range heat transport between molecular vibrations that can be actively controlled through an external driving laser.

Impact of loss on the wave dynamics in photonic waveguide lattices

We analyze the impact of loss in lattices of coupled optical waveguides and find that in such case, the hopping between adjacent waveguides is necessarily complex. This results not only in a transition of the light spreading from ballistic to diffusive, but also in a new kind of diffraction that is caused by loss dispersion. We prove our theoretical results with experimental observations.

In-pipe leak detection by Minimum Residual complexity: A Robust time Delay Estimation method against correlated noise

In this work, the residual complexity (RC) similarity measure, is employed for time delay estimation (TDE) in gas pipe leak localization. The properties of TDE by RC is compared with those of Cross Correlation(CC) and Mutual Information(MI) similarity measures on our experimental data. The comparison confirms the advantages of RC relative to CC and MI, in robustness against both correlated noises and reduction of number of samples. These advantages originate from not only its mathematical nature of RC similarity measure which considers inter-dependency but also from broadband frequency of acoustic waves propagating during gas pipes.

Phase transition to spatial Bloch-like oscillation in squeezed photonic lattices

We propose an exactly solvable waveguide lattice incorporating inhomogeneous coupling coefficient. This structure provides a classical analogue to the squeezed number and squeezed coherent intensity distribution in quantum optics where the propagation length plays the role of squeezed amplitude. The intensity pattern is obtained in a closed form for an arbitrary distribution of the initial beam profile. We have also investigated the phase transition to the spatial Bloch-like oscillations by adding a linear gradient to the propagation constant of each waveguides ($ α$). Our analytical results show that the Bloch-like oscillations appear above a critical value for the linear gradient of propagation constant ($ α> α_{c} $). The phase transition (in the propagation properties of the waveguide) is a result of competition between discrete and Bragg diffraction. Moreover, the light intensity decay algebraically along each waveguide at the critical point while it falls off exponentially below the critical point ($ α< α_{c} $).

Transverse localization in nonlinear photonic lattices with second-order coupling

We investigate numerically the effect of long-range interaction on the transverse localization of light. To this end, nonlinear zigzag optical waveguide lattices are applied, which allows precise tuning of the second-order coupling. We find that localization is hindered by coupling between next-nearest lattice sites. Additionally, (focusing) nonlinearity facilitates localization with increasing disorder, as long as the nonlinearity is sufficiently weak. However, for strong nonlinearities, increasing disorder results in weaker localization. The threshold nonlinearity, above which this anomalous result is observed grows with increasing second-order coupling.

Optomechanical Entanglement in the Presence of Laser Phase Noise

We study the simplest optomechanical system in the presence of laser phase noise using the covariance matrix formalism. We show that the destructive effect of the phase noise is especially strong in the bistable regime. This explains why ground state cooling is still possible in the presence of phase noise, as it happens far away from the bistable regime. On the other hand, the optomechanical entanglement is strongly affected by phase noise.

Quantum Optomechanics in the Bistable Regime

We study the simplest optomechanical system with a focus on the bistable regime. The covariance matrix formalism allows us to study both cooling and entanglement in a unified framework. We identify two key factors governing entanglement, namely the bistability parameter, i.e. the distance from the end of a stable branch in the bistable regime, and the effective detuning, and we describe the optimum regime where entanglement is greatest. We also show that in general entanglement is a non-monotonic function of optomechanical coupling. This is especially important in understanding the optomechanical entanglement of the second stable branch.
