Out-of-time-order correlations and Floquet dynamical quantum phase transition

Out-of-time-order correlators (OTOCs) progressively play an important role in different fields of physics, particularly in the non-equilibrium quantum many-body systems. In this paper, we show that OTOCs can be used to prob the Floquet dynamical quantum phase transitions (FDQPTs). We investigate the OTOCs of two exactly solvable Floquet spin models, namely: Floquet XY chain and synchronized Floquet XY model. We show that the border of driven frequency range, over which the Floquet XY model shows FDQPT, signals by the global minimum of the infinite-temperature time averaged OTOC. Moreover, our results manifest that OTOCs decay algebraically in the long time, for which the decay exponent in the FDQPT region is different from that of in the region where the system does not show FDQPTs. In addition, for the synchronized Floquet XY model, where FDQPT occurs at any driven frequency depending on the initial condition at infinite or finite temperature, the imaginary part of the OTOCs become zero whenever the system shows FDQPT.

Homogeneous Floquet time crystal from weak ergodicity breaking

Recent works on observation of discrete time-crystalline signatures throw up major puzzles on the necessity of localization for stabilizing such out-of-equilibrium phases. Motivated by these studies, we delve into a clean interacting Floquet system, whose quasi-spectrum conforms to the ergodic Wigner-Dyson distribution, yet with an unexpectedly robust, long-lived time-crystalline dynamics in the absence of disorder or fine-tuning. We relate such behavior to a measure zero set of nonthermal Floquet eigenstates with long-range spatial correlations, which coexist with otherwise thermal states at near-infinite temperature and develop a high overlap with a family of translationally invariant, symmetry-broken initial conditions. This resembles the notion of "dynamical scars" that remain robustly localized throughout a thermalizing Floquet spectrum with fractured structure. We dub such a long-lived discrete time crystal formed in partially nonergodic systems, "scarred discrete time crystal" which is distinct by nature from those stabilized by either many-body localization or prethermalization mechanism.

Electron mobility of a two-dimensional electron gas at the interface of SrTiO$_3$ and LaAlO$_3$

We calculate the mobility of a two-dimensional electron gas residing at the interface of LaAlO$_{3}$/SrTiO$_{3}$ following a three band Boltzmann approach at low temperature, where carrier-charged impurity scattering process is assumed to be dominant. We explain the anisotropic characteristic of the dielectric function, which is a consequence of elliptical bands close to Fermi surface. The screening effect, which weakens the long-range Coulomb interaction of the electron-impurity is considered within the random phase approximation. Working at carrier densities high enough to neglect the spin-orbit induced splitting of the bands, we find that the mobility varies inversely with the cubic power of the carrier density ($n_{2D}^{-3}$) in good agreement with the experimental results. We also investigate the role of variable dielectric constant of SrTiO$_{3}$, the multiband nature of the system and interband interactions in exploring this result.

Phase diagram of J1-J2 transverse field Ising model on the checkerboard lattice: a plaquette-operator approach

We study the effect of quantum fluctuations by means of a transverse magnetic field ($Γ$) on the antiferromagnetic $J_1-J_2$ Ising model on the checkerboard lattice, the two dimensional version of the pyrochlore lattice. The zero-temperature phase diagram of the model has been obtained by employing a plaquette operator approach (POA). The plaquette operator formalism bosonizes the model, in which a single boson is associated to each eigenstate of a plaquette and the inter-plaquette interactions define an effective Hamiltonian. The excitations of a plaquette would represent an-harmonic fluctuations of the model, which lead not only to lower the excitation energy compared with a single-spin flip but also to lift the extensive degeneracy in favor of a plaquette ordered solid (RPS) state, which breaks lattice translational symmetry, in addition to a unique collinear phase for $J_2>J_1$. The bosonic excitation gap vanishes at the critical points to the Néel ($J_2 < J_1$) and collinear ($J_2 > J_1$) ordered phases, which defines the critical phase boundaries. At the homogeneous coupling ($J_2=J_1$) and its close neighborhood, the (canted) RPS state, established from an-harmonic fluctuations, lasts for low fields, $Γ/J_1\lesssim 0.3$, which is followed by a transition to the quantum paramagnet (polarized) phase at high fields. The transition from RPS state to the Néel phase is either a deconfined quantum phase transition or a first order one, however a continuous transition occurs between RPS and collinear phases.

Quantum phase transitions in the Kondo-necklace model: Perturbative continuous unitary transformation approach

The Kondo-necklace model can describe magnetic low-energy limit of strongly correlated heavy fermion materials. There exist multiple energy scales in this model corresponding to each phase of the system. Here, we study quantum phase transition between the Kondo-singlet phase and the antiferromagnetic long-range ordered phase, and show the effect of anisotropies in terms of quantum information properties and vanishing energy gap. We employ the "perturbative continuous unitary transformations" approach to calculate the energy gap and spin-spin correlations for the model in the thermodynamic limit of one, two, and three spatial dimensions as well as for spin ladders. In particular, we show that the method, although being perturbative, can predict the expected quantum critical point, where the gap of low-energy spectrum vanishes, which is in good agreement with results of other numerical and Green's function analyses. In addition, we employ concurrence, a bipartite entanglement measure, to study the criticality of the model. Absence of singularities in the derivative of concurrence in two and three dimensions in the Kondo-necklace model shows that this model features multipartite entanglement. We also discuss crossover from the one-dimensional to the two-dimensional model via the ladder structure.

Impact of loss on the wave dynamics in photonic waveguide lattices

We analyze the impact of loss in lattices of coupled optical waveguides and find that in such case, the hopping between adjacent waveguides is necessarily complex. This results not only in a transition of the light spreading from ballistic to diffusive, but also in a new kind of diffraction that is caused by loss dispersion. We prove our theoretical results with experimental observations.

Quantum phase transition as an interplay of Kitaev and Ising interactions

We study the interplay between the Kitaev and Ising interactions on both ladder and two dimensional lattices. We show that the ground state of the Kitaev ladder is a symmetry-protected topological (SPT) phase, which is protected by a $\mathbb{Z}_2 \times \mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetry. It is confirmed by the degeneracy of the entanglement spectrum and non-trivial phase factors (inequivalent projective representations of the symmetries), which are obtained within infinite matrix-product representation of numerical density matrix renormalization group. We derive the effective theory to describe the topological phase transition on both ladder and two-dimensional lattices, which is given by the transverse field Ising model with/without next-nearest neighbor coupling. The ladder has three phases, namely, the Kitaev SPT, symmetry broken ferro/antiferromagnetic order and classical spin-liquid. The non-zero quantum critical point and its corresponding central charge are provided by the effective theory, which are in full agreement with the numerical results, i.e., the divergence of entanglement entropy at the critical point, change of the entanglement spectrum degeneracy and a drop in the ground-state fidelity. The central charge of the critical points are either c=1 or c=2, with the magnetization and correlation exponents being 1/4 and 1/2, respectively. In the absence of frustration, the 2D lattice shows a topological phase transition from the $\mathbb{Z}_2$ spin-liquid state to the long-range ordered Ising phase at finite ratio of couplings, while in the presence of frustration, an order-by-disorder transition is induced by the Kitaev term. The 2D classical spin-liquid phase is unstable against the addition of Kitaev term toward an ordered phase before the transition to the $\mathbb{Z}_2$ spin-liquid state.

Symmetry fractionalization: Symmetry-protected topological phases of the bond-alternating spin-$1/2$ Heisenberg chain

We study different phases of the one-dimensional bond-alternating spin-$1/2$ Heisenberg model by using the symmetry fractionalization mechanism. We employ the infinite matrix-product state representation of the ground state (through the infinite-size density matrix renormalization group algorithm) to obtain inequivalent projective representations of the (unbroken) symmetry groups of the model, which are used to identify the different phases. We find that the model exhibits trivial as well as symmetry-protected topological phases. The symmetry-protected topological phases are Haldane phases on even/odd bonds, which are protected by the time-reversal (acting on the spin as $σ\rightarrow-σ$), parity (permutation of the chain about a specific bond), and dihedral ($π$-rotations about a pair of orthogonal axes) symmetries. Additionally, we investigate the phases of the most general two-body bond-alternating spin-$1/2$ model, which respects the time-reversal, parity, and dihedral symmetries, and obtain its corresponding twelve different types of the symmetry-protected topological phases.

Ground-state fidelity of the spin-1 Heisenberg chain with single ion anisotropy: quantum renormalization group and exact diagonalization approaches

We study the phase diagram of the anisotropic spin-1 Heisenberg chain with single ion anisotropy (D) using a ground-state fidelity approach. The ground-state fidelity and its corresponding susceptibility are calculated within the quantum renormalization group scheme where we obtained the renormalization of fidelity preventing to calculate the ground state. Using this approach, the phase boundaries between the antiferromagnetic Néel, Haldane and large-D phases are obtained for the whole phase diagram, which justifies the application of quantum renormalization group to trace the symmetery protected topological phases. In addition, we present numerical exact diagonalization (Lanczos) results in, which we employ a recently introduced non-local order parameter to locate the transition from Haldane to large-D phase accurately.

Phase transition to spatial Bloch-like oscillation in squeezed photonic lattices

We propose an exactly solvable waveguide lattice incorporating inhomogeneous coupling coefficient. This structure provides a classical analogue to the squeezed number and squeezed coherent intensity distribution in quantum optics where the propagation length plays the role of squeezed amplitude. The intensity pattern is obtained in a closed form for an arbitrary distribution of the initial beam profile. We have also investigated the phase transition to the spatial Bloch-like oscillations by adding a linear gradient to the propagation constant of each waveguides ($ α$). Our analytical results show that the Bloch-like oscillations appear above a critical value for the linear gradient of propagation constant ($ α> α_{c} $). The phase transition (in the propagation properties of the waveguide) is a result of competition between discrete and Bragg diffraction. Moreover, the light intensity decay algebraically along each waveguide at the critical point while it falls off exponentially below the critical point ($ α< α_{c} $).

Transverse localization in nonlinear photonic lattices with second-order coupling

We investigate numerically the effect of long-range interaction on the transverse localization of light. To this end, nonlinear zigzag optical waveguide lattices are applied, which allows precise tuning of the second-order coupling. We find that localization is hindered by coupling between next-nearest lattice sites. Additionally, (focusing) nonlinearity facilitates localization with increasing disorder, as long as the nonlinearity is sufficiently weak. However, for strong nonlinearities, increasing disorder results in weaker localization. The threshold nonlinearity, above which this anomalous result is observed grows with increasing second-order coupling.

Quantum critical phase diagram of bond alternating Ising model with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction: signature of ground state fidelity

We present the zero temperature phase diagram of the bond alternating Ising chain in the presence of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. An abrupt change in ground state fidelity is a signature of quantum phase transition. We obtain the renormalization of fidelity in terms of quantum renormalization group without the need to know the ground state. We calculate the fidelity susceptibility and its scaling behavior close to quantum critical point (QCP) to find the critical exponent which governs the divergence of correlation length. The model consists of a long range antiferromagnetic order with nonzero staggered magnetization which is separated from a helical ordered phase at QCP. Our results state that the critical exponent is independent of the bond alternation parameter (lambda) while the maximum attainable helical order depends on lambda.

Ground state factorization of heterogeneous spin models in magnetic fields

The exact factorized ground state of a heterogeneous (ferrimagnetic) spin model which is composed of two spins ($ρ, σ$) has been presented in detail. The Hamiltonian is not necessarily translational invariant and the exchange couplings can be competing antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic arbitrarily between different sub-lattices to build many practical models such as dimerized and tetramerized materials and ladder compounds. The condition to get a factorized ground state is investigated for non-frustrated spin models in the presence of a uniform and a staggered magnetic field. According to the lattice model structure we have categorized the spin models in two different classes and obtained their factorization conditions. The first class contains models in which their lattice structures do not provide a single uniform magnetic field to suppress the quantum correlations. Some of these models may have a factorized ground state in the presence of a uniform and a staggered magnetic field. However, in the second class there are several spin models in which their ground state could be factorized whether a staggered field is applied to the system or not. For the latter case, in the absence of a staggered field the factorizing uniform field is unique. However, the degrees of freedom for obtaining the factorization conditions are increased by adding a staggered magnetic field.

Phase diagram of the XXZ ferrimagnetic spin-(1/2, 1) chain in the presence of transverse magnetic field

We investigate the phase diagram of an anisotropic ferrimagnet spin-(1/2, 1) in the presence of a non-commuting (transverse) magnetic field. We find a magnetization plateau for the isotropic case while there is no plateau for the anisotropic ferrimagnet. The magnetization plateau can appear only when the Hamiltonian has the U(1) symmetry in the presence of the magnetic field. The anisotropic model is driven by the magnetic field from the Néel phase for low fields to the spin-flop phase for intermediate fields and then to the paramagnetic phase for high fields. We find the quantum critical points and their dependence on the anisotropy of the aforementioned field-induced quantum phase transitions. The spin-flop phase corresponds to the spontaneous breaking of Z2 symmetry. We use the numerical density matrix renormalization group and analytic spin wave theory to find the phase diagram of the model. The energy gap, sublattice magnetization, and total magnetization parallel and perpendicular to the magnetic field are also calculated. The elementary excitation spectrums of the model are obtained via the spin wave theory in the three different regimes depending on the strength of the magnetic field.

Quantum Renormalization Group for Ground-State Fidelity

Ground-state fidelity (GSF) and quantum renormalization group theory (QRG) have proven useful tools in the study of quantum critical systems. Here we lay out a general, unified formalism of GSF and QRG; specifically, we propose a method to calculate GSF through QRG, obviating the need for calculating or approximating ground states. This method thus enhances characterization of quantum criticality as well as scaling analysis of relevant properties with system size. We illustrate the formalism in the one-dimensional Ising model in a transverse field and the anisotropic spin-1/2 Heisenberg model.

Effect of anisotropy on the field induced quantum critical properties of the three dimensional s=1/2 Heisenberg model

The field induced quantum critical properties of the three dimensional spin-1/2 anisotropic antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model has been studied. We have investigated the quantum phase transition between the spiral order and field induced ferromagnetic order by means of Bose-Einstein condensation of magnons in terms of a bosonic representation. The effect of in-plane anisotropy on the critical properties has been studied via the bosonic model by Green's function approach. We have found an analytic expression for the gap exponent in addition to numerical results for the critical magnetic field in terms of anisotropy parameter. The in-plane anisotropy breaks the U(1) symmetry explicitly which changes the universal behavior by a drastic change on the gap exponent. Moreover, the critical magnetic field depends strongly on the in-plane anisotropies. The divergence of the transverse structure factor at the antiferromagnetic wave vector confirms the onset of the magnetic order which scales with the negative value of gap exponent as the magnetic field approaches the critical one. The transverse staggered magnetization as an order parameter vanishes with exponent $β=0.5$ when the magnetic field reaches its critical value in low field region.

Thermodynamic behavior of the XXZ Heisenberg s=1/2 chain around the factorizing magnetic field

We have investigated the zero and finite temperature behaviors of the anisotropic antiferromagnetic Heisenberg XXZ spin-1/2 chain in the presence of a transverse magnetic field (h). The attention is concentrated on an interval of magnetic field between the factorizing field (h_f) and the critical one (h_c). The model presents a spin-flop phase for 0<h<h_f with an energy scale which is defined by the long range antiferromagnetic order while it undergoes an entanglement phase transition at h=h_f. The entanglement estimators clearly show that the entanglement is lost exactly at h=h_f which justifies different quantum correlations on both sides of the factorizing field. As a consequence of zero entanglement (at h=h_f) the ground state is known exactly as a product of single particle states which is the starting point for initiating a spin wave theory. The linear spin wave theory is implemented to obtain the specific heat and thermal entanglement of the model in the interested region. A double peak structure is found in the specific heat around h=h_f which manifests the existence of two energy scales in the system as a result of two competing orders before the critical point. These results are confirmed by the low temperature Lanczos data which we have computed.

Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya Interaction and Anisotropy effects on the Entanglement of Heisenberg Model

In this paper the the effect of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction and anisotropy on the Entanglement of Heisenberg chain has been studied. While the anisotropy suppress the entanglement due to favoring of the alignment of spins, the DM interaction restores the spoiled entanglement via creation of the quantum fluctuations. Thermodynamic limit of the model and emerging of non-analytic behavior of the entanglement have also been probed. The singularities of the entanglement correspond to the critical boundary separating different phases of the model. The singularity of the entanglement derivative approaches the critical point from the gapped phase and will be symmetric if both phase on the boundary are gapped.

Factorized ground state for a general class of ferrimagnets

We have found the exact (factorized) ground state of a general class of ferrimagnets in the presence of a magnetic field which covers the frustrated, anisotropic and long range interactions for arbitrary dimensional space. In particular cases, our model represents the bond-alternating, ferromagnet-antiferromagnet and also homogeneous spin $s$ model. The factorized ground state is a product of single particle kets on a bipartite lattice composed of two different spins ($ρ, σ$). The spin waves analysis around the exact ground state show two branch of excitations which is the origin of two dynamics of the model. The signature of these dynamics is addressed as a peak and a broaden bump in the specific heat.

Three-Qubit Ground State and Thermal Entanglement of $XXZ$ Model With Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya Interaction

We have studied the symmetric and non-symmetric pairwise ground state and thermal entanglement in three-qubit anisotropic Heisenberg (XXZ) and Ising in a magnetic field models and in the presence of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction. We have found that increasing of the DM interaction and magnetic field can enhance and reduce the entanglement of system. We have shown that the non-symmetric pairwise has higher value concurrence and critical temperature (above which the entanglement vanishes) than the symmetric pairwise. For negative anisotropy the non-symmetric entanglement is a monotonic function of DM interaction while for positive anisotropy it has a maximum versus DM parameter and vanishes for larger values of DM interaction. The conditions for the existence of thermal entanglement are discussed in details. The most remarkable result happens at zero temperature where 3-qubit ground state entanglement of the system (in spite of 2-qubit counterpart) shows the fingerprint of quantum phase transition for an infinite size system.

Renormalization of concurrence: the application of quantum renormalization group to the quantum information systems

We have combined the idea of renormalization group and quantum information theory. We have shown how the entanglement or concurrence evolve as the size of the system being large, i.e. the finite size scaling is obtained. Moreover, It introduces how the renormalization group approach can be implemented to obtain the quantum information properties of a many body system. We have obtained the concurrence as a measure of entanglement, its derivatives and their scaling behavior versus the size of system for the one dimensional Ising model in transverse field. We have found that the derivative of concurrence between two blocks each containing half of the system size diverges at the critical point with the exponent which is directly associated with the divergence of the correlation length.

Quantum renormalization group of XYZ model in a transverse magnetic field

We have studied the zero temperature phase diagram of XYZ model in the presence of transverse magnetic field. We show that small anisotropy (0 =< Delta <1) is not relevant to change the universality class. The phase diagram consists of two antiferromagnetic ordering and a paramagnetic phases. We have obtained the critical exponents, fixed points and running of coupling constants by implementing the standard quantum renormalization group. The continuous phase transition from antiferromagnetic (spin-flop) phase to a paramagnetic one is in the universality class of Ising model in transverse field. Numerical exact diagonalization has been done to justify our results. We have also addressed on the application of our findings to the recent experiments on Cs_2CoCl_4.
