The radial Regge trajectories and leptonic widths of the isovector mesons

It is shown that two physical phenomena are important for high excitations: (i) the screening of the universal gluon-exchange potential and (ii) the flattening of the confining potential owing to creation of quark loops, and both effects are determined quantitatively. Taking the first effect into account, we predict the masses of the ground states with l=0,1,2l=0,1,2 in agreement with experiment. The flattening effect ensures the observed linear behaviour of the radial Regge trajectories M2(n)=m02+nrμ2M^2(n)=m_0^2 + n_r μ^2 GeV2^2, where the slope μ2μ^2 is very sensitive to the parameter γγ, which determines the weakening of the string tension σ(r)σ(r) at large distances. For the ρρ-trajectory the linear behaviour starts with nr=1n_r=1 and the values μ2=1.40(2)μ^2=1.40(2)~GeV2^2 for γ=0.40γ=0.40 and μ2=1.34(1)μ^2=1.34(1)~GeV2^2 for γ=0.45γ=0.45 are obtained. For the excited states the leptonic widths: Γee(ρ(775))=7.0(3)Γ_{\rm ee}(ρ(775))=7.0(3)~keV, Γee(ρ(1450))=1.7(1)Γ_{\rm ee}(ρ(1450))=1.7(1)~keV, Γee(ρ(1900))=1.0(1)Γ_{\rm ee}(ρ(1900))=1.0(1)~keV, Γee(ρ(2150))=0.7(1)Γ_{\rm ee}(ρ(2150))=0.7(1)~keV, and Γee(1 3D1)=0.26(5)Γ_{\rm ee}(1\,{}^3D_1)=0.26(5)~keV are calculated, if these states are considered as purely qqˉq\bar q states. The width Γee(ρ(1700))Γ_{\rm ee}(ρ(1700)) increases if ρ(1700)ρ(1700) is mixed with the 2 3S12\,{}^3S_1 state, giving for a mixing angle θ=21∘θ=21^\circ almost equal widths: Γee(ρ(1700))=0.75(6)Γ_{\rm ee}(ρ(1700))=0.75(6)~keV and Γee(1450)=1.0(1)Γ_{\rm ee}(1450)=1.0(1)~keV.

The ccˉc\bar c interaction above threshold and the radiative decay X(3872)→J/ψγX(3872)\rightarrow J/ψγ

Radiative decays of X(3872)X(3872) are studied in single-channel approximation (SCA) and in the coupled-channel (CC) approach, where the decay channels DDˉ∗D\bar D^* are described with the string breaking mechanism. In SCA the transition rate Γ~2=Γ(2 3P1→ψγ)=71.8\tildeΓ_2=Γ(2\,{}^3P_1 \rightarrow ψγ)=71.8~keV and large Γ~1=Γ(2 3P1→J/ψγ)=85.4\tildeΓ_1=Γ(2\,{}^3P_1\rightarrow J/ψγ)=85.4~keV are obtained, giving for their ratio the value Rψγ~=Γ~2Γ~1=0.84\tilde{R_{ψγ}}=\frac{\tildeΓ_2}{\tildeΓ_1}=0.84. In the CC approach three factors are shown to be equally important. First, the admixture of the 1 3P11\,{}^3P_1 component in the normalized wave function of X(3872)X(3872) due to the CC effects. Its weight cX(ER)=0.200±0.015c_{\rm X}(E_{\rm R})=0.200\pm 0.015 is calculated. Secondly, the use of the multipole function g(r)g(r) instead of rr in the overlap integrals, determining the partial widths. Thirdly, the choice of the gluon-exchange interaction for X(3872)X(3872), as well as for other states above threshold. If for X(3872)X(3872) the gluon-exchange potential is taken the same as for low-lying charmonium states, then in the CC approach Γ1=Γ(X(3872)→J/ψγ)∼3Γ_1= Γ(X(3872)\rightarrow J/ψγ) \sim 3~keV is very small, giving the large ratio Rψγ=B(X(3872)→ψ(2S)γ)B(X(3872)→J/ψγ)≫1.0R_{ψγ}=\frac{\mathcal{B}(X(3872)\rightarrow ψ(2S)γ)}{\mathcal{B}(X(3872)\rightarrow J/ψγ)}\gg 1.0. Arguments are presented why the gluon-exchange interaction may be suppressed for X(3872)X(3872) and in this case Γ1=42.7Γ_1=42.7~keV, Γ2=70.5Γ_2= 70.5~keV, and Rψγ=1.65R_{ψγ}=1.65 are predicted for the minimal value cX(min)=0.185c_{\rm X}({\rm min})=0.185, while for the maximal value cX=0.215c_{\rm X}=0.215 we obtained Γ1=30.8Γ_1=30.8~keV, Γ2=73.2Γ_2=73.2~keV, and Rψγ=2.38R_{ψγ}=2.38, which agrees with the LHCb data.

Magnetic moments of mesons

Magnetic moments of charged and neutral mesons are calculated with the use of the relativistic Hamiltonian derived from the path integral form of the q1qˉ2q_1\bar q_2 Green's function. The magnetic moments are shown to be expressed via the average quark energies which are defined by the fundamental quantities: the string tension σσ, the current quark masses, and the strong coupling constant αsα_s. Resulting values for vector, axial, and tensor light and KK mesons agree well with all available lattice data.

The vector coupling αV(r)α_{\rm V}(r) and the scales r0,r1r_0,r_1 from the bottomonium spectrum

We study the universal static potential Vst(r)V_{\rm st}(r) and the force, which are fully determined by two fundamental parameters: the string tension σ=0.18±0.02σ=0.18\pm 0.02 GeV2^2 and the QCD constants ΛMSˉ(nf)Λ_{\bar{\rm MS}}(n_f), taken from pQCD, while the infrared (IR) regulator MBM_{\rm B} is taken from the background perturbation theory and expressed via the string tension. The vector couplings αV(r)α_{\rm V}(r) in the static potential and αF(r)α_{\rm F}(r) in the static force, as well as the characteristic scales, r1(nf=3)r_1(n_f=3) and r0(nf=3)r_0(n_f=3), are calculated and compared to lattice data. The result r0ΛMSˉ(nf=3)=0.77±0.03r_0Λ_{\bar{\rm MS}}(n_f=3)=0.77\pm 0.03, which agrees with the lattice data, is obtained for MB=(1.15±0.02)M_{\rm B}=(1.15\pm 0.02) GeV. However, better agreement with the bottomonium spectrum is reached for a smaller ΛMSˉ(nf=3)=(325±15)Λ_{\bar{\rm MS}}(n_f=3)=(325\pm 15) MeV and the frozen value of αV=0.57±0.02α_V=0.57\pm 0.02. The mass splittings Mˉ(1D)−Mˉ(1P)\bar M(1D)-\bar M(1P) and Mˉ(2P)−Mˉ(1P)\bar M(2P)-\bar M(1P) are shown to be sensitive to the IR regulator used. The masses M(1 3D3)=10169(2)M(1\,^3D_3)=10169(2) MeV and M(1 3D1)=10155(3)M(1\,^3D_1)=10155(3) MeV are predicted.

Dominant spin-orbit effects in radiative decays {Υ(3S→γχbJ(1P))Υ(3S\rightarrow γχ_{bJ}(1P))}}

We show that there are two reasons why the partial width for the transition Γ1(Υ(3S)→γχb1(1P))Γ_1(Υ(3S)\rightarrow γχ_{b1}(1P)) is suppressed. Firstly, the spin-averaged matrix element (m.e.) I(3S∣r∣1PJ)ˉ\bar{I(3S|r|1P_J)} is small, being equal to 0.023 GeV−1^{-1} in our relativistic calculations. Secondly, the spin-orbit splittings produce relatively large contributions, giving I(3S∣r∣1P2)=0.066I(3S|r|1P_2)=0.066 GeV−1^{-1}, while due to large cancellation the m.e. I(3S∣r∣1P1)=−0.020I(3S|r|1P_1)=-0.020 GeV−1^{-1} is small and negative; at the same time the magnitude of I(3S∣r∣1P0)=−0.063I(3S|r|1P_0)=-0.063 GeV−1^{-1} is relatively large. These m.e. give rise to the partial widths: Γ2(Υ(3S)→γχb2(1P))=212Γ_2(Υ(3S)\rightarrow γχ_{b2}(1P))=212 eV, Γ0(Υ(3S)→γχb0(1P))=54Γ_0(Υ(3S)\rightarrow γχ_{b0}(1P))=54 eV, which are in good agreement with the CLEO and BaBar data, and also to Γ1(Υ(3S)→γχb1(1P))=13Γ_1(Υ(3S)\rightarrow γχ_{b1}(1P))=13 eV, which satisfies the BaBar limit, Γ1(exp.)<22Γ_1(exp.) < 22 eV.

Microscopic study of the string breaking in QCD

Theory of strong decays defines in addition to decay widths, also the channel coupling and the mass shifts of the levels above the decay thresholds. In the standard decay models of the 3P0 type the decay vertex is taken to be a phenomenological constant "gamma" and such a choice leads to large mass shifts of all meson levels due to real and virtual decays, the latter giving a divergent contribution. Here we show that taking the microscopic details of decay vertex into account, one obtains new string width coefficient, which strongly suppresses virtual decay contribution. In addition for a realistic space structure of the decay vertex of highly excited states, the decay matrix elements appear to be strongly different from those, where the constant "gamma" is used. From our analysis also follows that so-called flattening potential can imitate the effects of intermediate decay channels.

The ratio of decay widths of X(3872) to ψ′γ ψ^{\prime}γ and J/ψγ J/ψγ as a test of the X(3872) dynamical structure

Radiative decays of X(3872) with JPC=1++J^{PC}=1^{++} are studied in the coupled-channel approach, where the ccˉc\bar c states are described by relativistic string Hamiltonian, while for the decay channels DD∗DD^* a string breaking mechanism is used. Within this method a sharp peak and correct mass shift of the 23P12 {}^3P_1 charmonium state just to the D0D∗0D^0D^{*0} threshold was already obtained for a prescribed channel coupling to the DD∗DD^* decay channels. For the same value of coupling the normalized wave function (w.f.) of X(3872) acquires admixture of the 13P11 {}^3P_1 component with the w.f. fraction c1=0.153(θ=8.8∘c_1=0.153 (θ=8.8^\circ), which increases the transition rate Γ(X(3872)→J/ψγ)Γ(X(3872)\rightarrow J/ψγ) up to 50-70 keV, making the ratio R=B(X(3872)→ψ′γ)B(X(3872)→J/ψγ)=0.8±0.20(th)R=\frac{\mathcal{B}(X(3872)\rightarrow ψ^{\prime}γ)}{\mathcal{B}(X(3872)\rightarrow J/ψγ)}=0.8\pm 0.20 (th) significantly smaller, as compared to R≃5R\simeq 5 for X(3872) as a purely 23P12 {}^3P_1 state.

Higher excitations of the DD and DsD_s mesons

The masses of higher D(nL)D(nL) and Ds(nL)D_s(nL) excitations are shown to decrease due to the string contribution, originating from the rotation of the QCD string itself: it lowers the masses by 45 MeV for L=2(n=1)L=2 (n=1) and by 65 MeV for L=3(n=1)L=3 (n=1). An additional decrease ∼100\sim 100 MeV takes place if the current mass of the light (strange) quark is used in a relativistic model. For Ds(1 3D3)D_s(1\,{}^3D_3) and Ds(2P1H)D_s(2P_1^H) the calculated masses agree with the experimental values for Ds(2860)D_s(2860) and Ds(3040)D_s(3040), and the masses of D(2 1S0)D(2\,{}^1S_0), D(2 3S1)D(2\,{}^3S_1), D(1 3D3)D(1\,{}^3D_3), and D(1D2)D(1D_2) are in agreement with the new BaBar data. For the yet undiscovered resonances we predict the masses M(D(2 3P2))=2965M(D(2\,{}^3P_2))=2965 MeV, M(D(2 3P0))=2880M(D(2\,{}^3P_0))=2880 MeV, M(D(1 3F4))=3030M(D(1\,{}^3F_4))=3030 MeV, and M(Ds(1 3F2))=3090M(D_s(1\,{}^3F_2))=3090 MeV. We show that for L=2,3L=2,3 the states with jq=l+1/2j_q=l+1/2 and jq=l−1/2j_q=l-1/2 (J=lJ=l) are almost completely unmixed (ϕ≃−1∘ϕ\simeq -1^\circ), which implies that the mixing angles θθ between the states with S=1 and S=0 (J=LJ=L) are θ≈40∘θ\approx 40^\circ for L=2 and ≈42∘\approx 42^\circ for L=3.

Radial Regge trajectories for higher ψ(nS)ψ(nS) and ψ(nD)ψ(nD) states

The masses of ψ((n+1)3S1)ψ((n+1) {}^3S_1) and ψ(n3D1)ψ(n {}^3D_1) are calculated using the relativistic string Hamiltonian with "linear+gluon-exchange" potential. They occur in the range 4.5-5.8 GeV, in particular, M(3D)=4.54M(3D)=4.54 GeV, M(5S)=4.79M(5S)=4.79 GeV, M(4D)=4.85M(4D)=4.85 GeV are calculated with accuracy ∼50\sim 50 MeV. Linear Regge trajectories: M2(nS)=M2(ψ(4.42))+2.91M^2(nS)=M^2(ψ(4.42))+ 2.91 GeV2(n−4)^2 (n-4) (n≥4)(n\geq 4) and M2(nD)=(4.542+2.88(n−3))M^2(nD)=(4.54^2+ 2.88 (n-3)) GeV2^2 (n≥3n\geq 3) are obtained only for higher charmonium excitations. They have slopes two times larger than those of light mesons and give good description of calculated masses. These masses are compared with enhancements in some recent e+e−e^+e^- experiments.

The Hyperfine Splittings in Bottomonium and the Bq(q=n,s,c)B_q (q=n,s,c) Mesons

A universal description of the hyperfine splittings (HFS) in bottomonium and the Bq(q=n,s,c)B_q (q=n,s,c) mesons is obtained with a universal strong coupling constant αs(μ)=0.305(2)α_s(μ)=0.305(2) in a spin-spin potential. Other characteristics are calculated within the Field Correlator Method, taking the freezing value of the strong coupling independent of nfn_f. The HFS M(B∗)−M(B)=45.3(3)M(B^*)- M(B)=45.3(3) MeV, M(Bs∗)−M(Bs)=46.5(3)M(B_s^*) - M(B_s)=46.5(3) MeV are obtained in full agreement with experiment both for nf=3n_f=3 and nf=4n_f=4. In bottomonium, M(Υ(9460))−M(ηb)=70.0(4)M(Υ(9460))- M(η_b)=70.0(4) MeV for nf=5n_f=5 agrees with the BaBar data, while a smaller HFS, equal to 64(1) MeV, is obtained for nf=4n_f=4. We predict HFS M(Υ(2S))−M(ηb(2S))=36(1)M(Υ(2S))-M(η_b(2S))=36(1) MeV, M(Υ(3S))−M(η(3S))=27(1)M(Υ(3S))- M(η(3S))=27(1) MeV, and M(Bc∗)−M(Bc)=57.5(10)M(B_c^*) - M(B_c)= 57.5(10) MeV, which gives M(Bc∗)=6334(1)M(B_c^*)=6334(1) MeV, M(Bc(21S0))=6865(5)M(B_c(2 {}^1S_0))=6865(5) MeV, and M(Bc∗(2S3S1))=6901(5)M(B_c^*(2S {}^3S_1))=6901(5) MeV.

The Hyperfine Splittings in Heavy-Light Mesons and Quarkonia

Hyperfine splittings (HFS) are calculated within the Field Correlator Method, taking into account relativistic corrections. The HFS in bottomonium and the BqB_q (q=n,s) mesons are shown to be in full agreement with experiment if a universal coupling αHF=0.310α_{HF}=0.310 is taken in perturbative spin-spin potential. It gives M(B∗)−M(B)=45.7(3)M(B^*)-M(B)=45.7(3) MeV, M(Bs∗)−M(Bs)=46.7(3)M(B_s^*)-M(B_s)=46.7(3) MeV (nf=4n_f=4), while in bottomonium ΔHF(bbˉ)=M(Υ(9460))−M(ηb(1S))=63.4Δ_{HF}(b\bar b)=M(Υ(9460))-M(η_b(1S))=63.4 MeV for nf=4n_f=4 and 71.1 MeV for nf=5n_f=5 are obtained; just latter agrees with recent BaBar data. For unobserved excited states we predict M(Υ(2S))−M(ηb(2S))=36(2)M(Υ(2S))-M(η_b(2S))=36(2) MeV, M(Υ(3S))−M(η(3S))=28(2)M(Υ(3S))-M(η(3S))=28(2) MeV, and also M(Bc∗)=6334(4)M(B_c^*)=6334(4) MeV, M(Bc(2S))=6868(4)M(B_c(2S))=6868(4) MeV, M(Bc∗(2S))=6905(4)M(B_c^*(2S))=6905(4) MeV. The mass splittings between D(23S1)−D(21S0)D(2^3S_1)-D(2^1S_0), Ds(23S1)−Ds(21S0)D_s(2^3S_1)-D_s(2^1S_0) are predicted to be ∼70\sim 70 MeV, which are significantly smaller than in several other studies.

Dielectron widths of the S-, D-vector bottomonium states

The dielectron widths of Υ(nS)(n=1,...,7)Υ(nS) (n=1,...,7) and vector decay constants are calculated using the Relativistic String Hamiltonian with a universal interaction. For Υ(nS)(n=1,2,3)Υ(nS) (n=1,2,3) the dielectron widths and their ratios are obtained in full agreement with the latest CLEO data. For Υ(10580)Υ(10580) and Υ(11020)Υ(11020) a good agreement with experiment is reached only if the 4S--3D mixing (with a mixing angle θ=27∘±4∘θ=27^\circ\pm 4^\circ) and 6S--5D mixing (with θ=40∘±5∘θ=40^\circ\pm 5^\circ) are taken into account. The possibility to observe higher "mixed DD-wave" resonances, Υ~(n3D1)\tildeΥ(n {}^3D_1) with n=3,4,5n=3,4,5 is discussed. In particular, Υ~(≈11120)\tildeΥ(\approx 11120), originating from the pure 53D15 {}^3D_1 state, can acquire a rather large dielectron width, ∼130\sim 130 eV, so that this resonance may become manifest in the e+e−e^+e^- experiments. On the contrary, the widths of pure DD-wave states are very small, Γee(n3D1)≤2Γ_{ee}(n{}^3 D_1) \leq 2 eV.

The running mass msm_s at low scalefrom the heavy-light meson decay constants

It is shown that a 25(20)% difference between the decay constants fDs(fBs)f_{D_s}(f_{B_s}) and fD(fB)f_D(f_B) occurs due to large differences in the pole masses of the ss and d(u)d(u) quarks. The values ηD=fDs/fD≈1.23(15)η_D =f_{D_s}/f_D\approx 1.23(15), recently observed in the CLEO experiment, and ηB=fBs/fB≈1.20η_B=f_{B_s}/f_B\approx 1.20, obtained in unquenched lattice QCD, can be reached only if the running mass msm_s at low scale is ms(∼0.5m_s(\sim 0.5 GeV)=170−200= 170 - 200 MeV. Our results follow from the analytical expression for the pseudoscalar decay constant fPf_{\rm P} based on the path-integral representation of the meson Green's function.

Leptonic widths of high excitations in heavy quarkonia

Agreement with the measured electronic widths of the ψ(4040)ψ(4040), ψ(4415)ψ(4415), and Υ(11019)Υ(11019) resonances is shown to be reached if two effects are taken into account: a flattening of the confining potential at large distances and a total screening of the gluon-exchange interaction at $r\ga 1.2$ fm. The leptonic widths of the unobserved Υ(7S)Υ(7S) and ψ(5S)ψ(5S) resonances: Γe+e−(Υ(7S))=0.11Γ_{e^+e^-}(Υ(7S))=0.11 keV and Γ(ψ(5S))≈0.54Γ(ψ(5S))\approx 0.54 keV are predicted.

The gluonic condensate from the hyperfine splitting Mcog(χcJ)−M(hc)M_{\rm cog}(χ_{cJ})-M(h_c) in charmonium

The precision measurement of the hyperfine splitting ΔHF(1P,ccˉ)=Mcog(χcJ)−M(hc)=−0.5±0.4Δ_{\rm HF} (1P, c\bar c)=M_{\rm cog} (χ_{cJ}) - M(h_c) = -0.5 \pm 0.4 MeV in the Fermilab--E835 experiment allows to determine the gluonic condensate G2G_2 with high accuracy if the gluonic correlation length TgT_g is fixed. In our calculations the negative value of ΔHF=−0.3±0.4Δ_{\rm HF} = -0.3 \pm 0.4 MeV is obtained only if the relatively small Tg=0.16T_g = 0.16 fm and G2=0.065(3)G_2 = 0.065 (3) GeV4{}^4 are taken. These values correspond to the ``physical'' string tension (σ≈0.18(σ\approx 0.18 GeV2^2). For Tg≥0.2T_g \ge 0.2 fm the hyperfine splitting is positive and grows for increasing TgT_g. In particular for Tg=0.2T_g = 0.2 fm and G2=0.041(2)G_2 = 0.041 (2) GeV4{}^4 the splitting ΔHF=1.4(2)Δ_{\rm HF} = 1.4 (2) MeV is obtained, which is in accord with the recent CLEO result.

The heavy-quark pole masses in the Hamiltonian approach

From the fact that the nonperturbative self-energy contribution CSEC_{\rm SE} to the heavy meson mass is small: CSE(bbˉ)=0C_{\rm SE}(b\bar{b})=0; CSE(ccˉ)≅−40C_{\rm SE}(c\bar{c})\cong -40 MeV \cite{ref.01}, strong restrictions on the pole masses mbm_b and mcm_c are obtained. The analysis of the bbˉb\bar{b} and the ccˉc\bar{c} spectra with the use of relativistic (string) Hamiltonian gives mbm_b(2-loop)=4.78±0.05=4.78\pm 0.05 GeV and mcm_c(2-loop)=1.39±0.06=1.39 \pm 0.06 GeV which correspond to the MSˉ\bar{\rm MS} running mass mˉb(mˉb)=4.19±0.04\bar{m}_b(\bar{m}_b)=4.19\pm 0.04 GeV and mˉc(mˉc)=1.10±0.05\bar{m}_c(\bar{m}_c)=1.10\pm 0.05 GeV. The masses ωcω_c and ωbω_b, which define the heavy quarkonia spin structure, are shown to be by ∼200\sim 200 MeV larger than the pole ones.

Is the a_0(1450) a candidate for the lowest q\bar{q} ^3P_0 state?

For the a0(1450)a_0(1450), considered as the qqˉ13P0q\bar{q} 1^3P_0 state, "experimental" tensor splitting, cexp=(−150±40c_{exp}=(-150\pm 40) MeV, appears to be in contradiction with conventional theory of fine structure. There is no such discrepancy if the a0(980)a_0(980) belongs to the 13PJqqˉ1^3P_J q\bar{q} multiplet. The hadronic shift of the a0(980)a_0(980) is shown to be strongly dependent on the value of the strong coupling in spin-dependent interaction.

Light meson radial Regge trajectories

A new physical mechanism is suggested to explain the universal depletion of high meson excitations. It takes into account the appearance of holes inside the string world sheet due to qqˉq\bar{q} pair creation when the length of the string exceeds the critical value R1≃1.4R_1 \simeq 1.4 fm. It is argued that a delicate balance between large NcN_c loop suppression and a favorable gain in the action, produced by holes, creates a new metastable (predecay) stage with a renormalized string tension which now depends on the separation r. This results in smaller values of the slope of the radial Regge trajectories, in good agreement with the analysis of experimental data in [Ref.3]
