Binding Energies and Melting Temperatures of Heavy Hadrons in Quark-Gluon Plasma

We analyze the static potential of a quark-antiquark pair at $T\,\geq\,T_c$, where $T_c$ is a temperature of a deconfinement phase transition in QCD. We discuss the possibility that the non-perturbative part of this potential can be studied through the modification of the correlation functions, which define the quadratic field correlators of the nonperturbative vaccuum fields. We use the non-perturbative quark-antiquark potential derived in this way and the screened one-gluon-exchange potential with $T$-dependent Debye screening mass to calculate $J/ψ$, $Υ$ and $Ω_{bbb}$ binding energies and melting temperatures in the deconfined phase of the full 2-flavors QCD.

Heavy quark bound states above deconfinement

A comprehensive study of the color singlet heavy quark states above T_c is given, using the Field Correlator Method (FCM) for nonperturbative Q{\bar Q} potentials and the screened Coulomb potential with the T-dependent Debye radius. Using these potentials we calculate binding energies and melting temperatures of heavy mesons and baryons in the deconfined phase of quark-gluon plasma and the J/ψand Upsilon disintegration cross sections via the gluon absorption.

Baryons in the Field Correlator Method

The ground and $P$-wave excited states of $nnn$, $nns$ and $ssn$ baryons are studied in the framework of the field correlator method using the running strong coupling constant in the Coulomb-like part of the three-quark potential. The string correction for the confinement potential of the orbitally excited baryons, which is the leading contribution of the proper inertia of the rotating strings, is estimated.

Diquark and triquark correlations in the deconfined phase of QCD

We use the non-perturbative Q\bar Q potential at finite temperatures derived in the Field Correlator Method to obtain binding energies for the lowest eigenstates in the Q\bar Q and QQQ systems (Q=c,b). The three--quark problem is solved by the hyperspherical method. The solution provides an estimate of the melting temperature and the radii for the different diquark and triquark bound states. In particular we find that J/ψand $ccc$ ground states survive up to T \sim 1.3 T_c, where T_c is the critical temperature, while the corresponding bottomonium states survive even up to higher temperature, T \sim 2.2 T_c.

Upper bound on the cutoff in the Standard Model

The main objective of this presentation is to point out that the Upper bound on the cutoff in lattice Electroweak theory is still unknown. The consideration of the continuum theory is based on the perturbation expansion around trivial vacuum. The internal structure of the lattice Weinberg - Salam model may appear to be more complicated especially in the region of the phase diagram close to the phase transition between the physical Higgs phase and the unphysical symmetric phase of the lattice model, where the continuum physics is to be approached. We represent the results of our numerical investigation of the quenched model at infinite bare scalar self coupling $λ$. These results demonstrate that at $λ= \infty$ the upper bound on the cutoff is around $\fracπ{a} = 1.4$ Tev. The preliminary results for finite $λ$ are also presented. Basing on these results we cannot yet make a definite conclusion on the maximal value of the cutoff admitted in the lattice model, although we have found that the cutoff cannot exceed the value around $1.4 \pm 0.2$ Tev for a certain particular choice of the couplings ($λ= 0.009$, $β= 12$, $θ_W = 30^o$) for the lattices of sizes up to $12^3\times16$. We also observe that the topological defects, which are to be identified with quantum Nambu monopoles, dominate in vacuum in the vicinity of the transition. This indicates that the vacuum of the model is different from the trivial one. In addition we remind the results of the previous numerical investigations of the SU(2) gauge - Higgs model, where the maximal reported value of the cutoff was around 1.5 Tev.

Monopoles in lattice Electroweak theory

There exist several types of monopole - like topological defects in Electroweak theory. We investigate properties of these objects using lattice numerical methods. The intimate connection between them and the dynamics of the theory is established. We find that the density of Nambu monopoles cannot be predicted by the choice of the initial parameters of Electroweak theory and should be considered as the new external parameter of the theory. We also investigate the difference between the versions of Electroweak theory with the gauge groups $SU(2)\otimes U(1)$ and $SU(2)\otimes U(1)/Z_2$. We do not detect any difference at $α\sim {1/128}$. However, such a difference appears in the unphysical region of large coupling constant $α> 0.1$.

$Z_6$ symmetry, electroweak transition, and magnetic monopoles at high temperature

We consider the lattice realization of the Standard Model with an additional $Z_6$ symmetry. Numerical simulations were performed on the asymmetric lattice, which corresponds to the finite temperature theory. Our choice of parameters corresponds to large Higgs masses ($M_H > 90$ Gev). The phase diagram was investigated and has been found to be different from that of the usual lattice realization of the Standard Model. It has been found, that the confinement-deconfinement phase transition lines for the SU(2) and SU(3) fields coincide. The transition line between Higgs and symmetric deconfinement parts of the phase diagram and the confinement-deconfinement transition line meet in a triple point. The transition between Higgs and symmetric parts of the phase diagram corresponds to the finite temperature electroweak transition/crossover. We see for the first time evidence that Nambu monopoles are condensed at $T>T_c$ while at $T<T_c$ their condensate vanishes.

Finite Temperature QCD with Two Flavors of Non-perturbatively Improved Wilson Fermions

We study QCD with two flavors of non-perturbatively improved Wilson fermions at finite temperature on the $16^3 8$ lattice. We determine the transition temperature at lattice spacings as small as $a \sim 0.12$ fm, and study string breaking below the finite temperature transition. We find that the static potential can be fitted by a two-state ansatz, including a string state and a two-meson state. We investigate the role of Abelian monopoles at finite temperature.

Leptonic widths of high excitations in heavy quarkonia

Agreement with the measured electronic widths of the $ψ(4040)$, $ψ(4415)$, and $Υ(11019)$ resonances is shown to be reached if two effects are taken into account: a flattening of the confining potential at large distances and a total screening of the gluon-exchange interaction at $r\ga 1.2$ fm. The leptonic widths of the unobserved $Υ(7S)$ and $ψ(5S)$ resonances: $Γ_{e^+e^-}(Υ(7S))=0.11$ keV and $Γ(ψ(5S))\approx 0.54$ keV are predicted.

The heavy-quark pole masses in the Hamiltonian approach

From the fact that the nonperturbative self-energy contribution $C_{\rm SE}$ to the heavy meson mass is small: $C_{\rm SE}(b\bar{b})=0$; $C_{\rm SE}(c\bar{c})\cong -40$ MeV \cite{ref.01}, strong restrictions on the pole masses $m_b$ and $m_c$ are obtained. The analysis of the $b\bar{b}$ and the $c\bar{c}$ spectra with the use of relativistic (string) Hamiltonian gives $m_b$(2-loop)$=4.78\pm 0.05$ GeV and $m_c$(2-loop)$=1.39 \pm 0.06$ GeV which correspond to the $\bar{\rm MS}$ running mass $\bar{m}_b(\bar{m}_b)=4.19\pm 0.04$ GeV and $\bar{m}_c(\bar{m}_c)=1.10\pm 0.05$ GeV. The masses $ω_c$ and $ω_b$, which define the heavy quarkonia spin structure, are shown to be by $\sim 200$ MeV larger than the pole ones.

Evidence for the reality of singular configurations in SU(2) gauge theory

We consider the SU(2) lattice gauge model and investigate numerically the continuum limit of the simple center vortices which are singular configurations of the gauge fields. We found that the vortices remain alive in the continuum theory. Also we investigate the Creutz ratio and found that for all $β$ it vanishes for those field configurations which do not contain the simple center vortices inside the considered Wilson loop. It leads us to the conclusion that these singular field configurations play a real role in the continuum theory.

P-vortices, nexuses and effects of Gribov copies in the center gauges

We perform the careful study of the Gribov copies problem in SU(2) lattice gauge theory for maximal direct and maximal indirect center projections. We find that this problem is much more severe than it was thought before. The projected string tension is not in agreement with the physical string tension. We also show that the particle--like objects, nexuses, might be important for the confinement dynamics.

Aharonov-Bohm effect, Center Monopoles and Center Vortices in SU(2) Lattice Gluodynamics

SU(2) gluodynamics is investigated numerically and analytically in the (Indirect) Maximal Center gauge at finite temperature. The center vortices are shown to be condensed in the confinement phase and dilute in the deconfinement phase. A new physical object, center monopole, is constructed. We show that the center monopole condensate is the order parameter of deconfinement phase transition. The linking of the vortex worldsheets and quark trajectories is identified with the Aharonov-Bohm interaction in an effective Abelian Higgs theory. We conclude that the confinement in the Maximal Center gauge can be explained by a new mechanism called "the real superconductor mechanism".

Background Configurations, Confinement and Deconfinement on a Lattice with BPS Monopole Boundary Conditions

Finite temperature SU(2) lattice gauge theory is investigated in a 3D cubic box with fixed boundary conditions provided by a discretized, static BPS monopole solution with varying core scale $μ$. Using heating and cooling techniques we establish that for discrete $μ$-values stable classical solutions either of self-dual or of pure magnetic type exist inside the box. Having switched on quantum fluctuations we compute the Polyakov line and other local operators. For different $μ$ and at varying temperatures near the deconfinement transition we study the influence of the boundary condition on the vacuum inside the box. In contrast to the pure magnetic background field case, for the self-dual one we observe confinement even for temperatures quite far above the critical one.

BPS and non-BPS Domain Walls in Supersymmetric QCD with SU(3) Gauge Group

We study the spectrum of the domain walls interpolating between different chirally asymmetric vacua in supersymmetric QCD with the SU(3) gauge group and including 2 pairs of chiral matter multiplets in fundamental and anti-fundamental representations. For small enough masses m < m* = .286... (in the units of Λ), there are two different domain wall solutions which are BPS-saturated and two types of ``wallsome sphalerons''. At m = m*, two BPS branches join together and, in the interval m* < m < m** = 3.704..., BPS equations have no solutions but there are solutions to the equations of motion describing a non-BPS domain wall and a sphaleron. For m > m**, there are no solutions whatsoever.

Strings and Aharonov-Bohm Effect in Abelian Higgs Model

We investigate numerically the properties of the Abrikosov-Nielsen-Olesen strings in 4D abelian Higgs model. The fractal dimension D_f of the vortex strings was found to be large in the Coulomb phase and it is close to 2 in the Higgs phase. We also show that the Wilson loop for non-integer charges is correlated with the linking number of the vortex string world sheets and the test particle world trajectory. We find that this topological (Aharonov-Bohm) interaction gives the main contribution to the Wilson loop quantum average for non-integer test charges in the vicinity of the Coulomb-Higgs phase transition.

"Confinement Mechanism in Various Abelian Projections of $SU(2)$ Lattice Gluodynamics"

We show that the monopole confinement mechanism in lattice gluodynamics is a particular feature of the maximal abelian projection. We give an explicit example of the $SU(2) \rightarrow U(1)$ projection (the minimal abelian projection), in which the confinement is due to topological objects other than monopoles. We perform analytical and numerical study of the loop expansion of the Faddeev--Popov determinant for the maximal and the minimal abelian projections, and discuss the fundamental modular region for these projections.
