Transfer of 0-order coherence matrix along spin-1/2 chain

In this work, we study transfer of coherence matrices along spin-1/2 chains of various length. Unlike higher order coherence matrices, 0-order coherence matrix can be perfectly transferred if its elements are properly fixed. In certain cases, to provide the perfect transfer, an extended receiver together with optimized its unitary transformation has to be included into the protocol. In this work, the asymptotic perfectly transferable 0-order coherence matrix for an infinitely long chain is considered and deviation of a perfectly transferred state from this asymptotic state is studied as a function of the chain length for various sizes of the extended receiver. The problem of arbitrary parameter transfer via the nondiagonal elements of the 0-order coherence matrix is also considered and optimized using the unitary transformation of the extended receiver.

Calculation of $π$ on the IBM quantum computer and the accuracy of one-qubit operations

A quantum algorithm for the calculation of $π$ is proposed and implemented on the five-qubit IBM quantum computer with superconducting qubits. We find $π=3.157\pm0.017$. The error is due to the noise of quantum one-qubit operations and measurements. The results can be used for estimating the errors of the quantum computer and suggest that the errors are purely random.

Operations with elements of transferred density matrix via unitary transformations at receiver side

Using the tool of unitary transformations of the extended receiver we perform simple operations with the non-diagonal elements of the initial sender's density matrix after their transferring to the receiver. These operations are following: turning some matrix elements to zero, rearranging the matrix elements and preparing their linear combinations with required coefficients. We also propose a protocol for solving a system of linear algebraic equations with a system of two equations as an example. Such operations are numerically simulated on the basis of 42-node spin-1/2 chain with the two-qubit sender and receiver.

Solving systems of linear algebraic equations via unitary transformations on quantum processor of IBM Quantum Experience

We propose a protocol for solving systems of linear algebraic equations via quantum mechanical methods using the minimal number of qubits. We show that $(M+1)$-qubit system is enough to solve a system of $M$ equations for one of the variables leaving other variables unknown provided that the matrix of a linear system satisfies certain conditions. In this case, the vector of input data (the rhs of a linear system) is encoded into the initial state of the quantum system. This protocol is realized on the 5-qubit superconducting quantum processor of IBM Quantum Experience for particular linear systems of three equations. We also show that the solution of a linear algebraic system can be obtained as the result of a natural evolution of an inhomogeneous spin-1/2 chain in an inhomogeneous external magnetic field with the input data encoded into the initial state of this chain. For instance, using such evolution in a 4-spin chain we solve a system of three equations.

Computing scalar products via a two-terminal quantum transmission line

The scalar product of two vectors with $K$ real components can be computed using two quantum channels, that is, information transmission lines in the form of spin-1/2 XX chains. Each channel has its own $K$-qubit sender and both channels share a single two-qubit receiver. The $K$ elements of each vector are encoded in the pure single-excitation initial states of the senders. After time evolution, a bi-linear combination of these elements appears in the only matrix element of the second-order coherence matrix of the receiver state. An appropriate local unitary transformation of the extended receiver turns this combination into a renormalized version of the scalar product of the original vectors. The squared absolute value of this scaled scalar product is the intensity of the second-order coherence which consequently can be measured, for instance, employing multiple-quantum NMR. The unitary transformation generating the scalar product of two-element vectors is presented as an example.

Temperature-dependent remote control of polarization and coherence intensity with pure sender's initial state

We study the remote creation of the polarization and intensity of the first-order coherence (or coherence intensity) in long spin-1/2 chains with one qubit sender and receiver. Therewith we use a physically motivated initial condition with the pure state of the sender and the thermodynamical equilibrium state of the other nodes. The main part of the creatable region is a one-to-one map of the initial-state (control) parameters, except the small subregion twice covered by the control parameters, which appears owing to the chosen initial state. The polarization and coherence intensity behave differently in the state creation process. In particular, the coherence intensity can not reach any significant value unless the polarization is large in long chains (unlike the short ones), but the opposite is not true. The coherence intensity vanishes with an increase in the chain length, while the polarization (by absolute value) is not sensitive to this parameter. We represent several characteristics of the creatable polarization and coherence intensity and describe their relation to the parameters of the initial state. The link to the eigenvalue-eigenvector parametrization of the receiver's state-space is given.

On integration of multidimensional version of $n$-wave type equation

We represent a version of multidimensional quasilinear partial differential equation (PDE) together with large manifold of particular solutions given in an integral form. The dimensionality of constructed PDE can be arbitrary. We call it the $n$-wave type PDE, although the structure of its nonlinearity differs from that of the classical completely integrable (2+1)-dimensional $n$-wave equation. The richness of solution space to such a PDE is characterized by a set of arbitrary functions of several variables. However, this richness is not enough to provide the complete integrability, which is shown explicitly. We describe a class of multi-solitary wave solutions in details. Among examples of explicit particular solutions, we represent a lump-lattice solution depending on five independent variables. In Appendix, as an important supplemental material, we show that our nonlinear PDE is reducible from the more general multidimensional PDE which can be derived using the dressing method based on the linear integral equation with the kernel of a special type (a modification of the $\bar\partial$-problem). The dressing algorithm gives us a key for construction of higher order PDEs, although they are not discussed in this paper.

Remote control of quantum correlations in two-qubit receiver via three-qubit sender

We study the problem of remote control of quantum correlations (discord) in a sub-system of two qubits (receiver) via the parameters of the initial state of another sub-system of three qubits (sender) connected with the receiver by the inhomogeneous spin-1/2 chain. We propose two parameters characterizing the creatable correlations. The first one is the discord between the receiver and the rest of spin-1/2 chain, it concerns the mutual correlations between these two subsystems. The second parameter is the discord between the two nodes of the receiver and describes the correlations inside of the receiver. We study the dependence of these two discords on the inhomogeneity degree of spin chain.

Remote one-qubit state control by pure initial state of two-qubit sender. Selective-region- and eigenvalue-creation

We study the problem of remote one-qubit mixed state creation using a pure initial state of two-qubit sender and spin-1/2 chain as a connecting line. We express the parameters of creatable states in terms of transition amplitudes. We show that the creation of complete receiver's state-space can be achieved only in the chain engineered for the one-qubit perfect state transfer (PST) (for instance, in the fully engineered Ekert chain), the chain can be arbitrarily long in this case. As for the homogeneous chain, the creatable receiver's state region decreases quickly with the chain length. Both homogeneous chains and chains engineered for PST can be used for the purpose of selective state creation, when only the restricted part of the whole receiver's state space is of interest. Among the parameters of the receiver's state, the eigenvalue is the most hard creatable one and therefore deserves the special study. Regarding the homogeneous spin chain, an arbitrary eigenvalue can be created only if the chain is of no more then 34 nodes. Alternating chain allows us to increase this length up to 68 nodes.

Remote two-qubit state creation and its robustness

We consider the problem of remote two-qubit state creation using the two-qubit excitation pure initial state of the sender. The communication line is based on the optimized boundary controlled chain with two pairs of properly adjusted coupling constants. The creation of the two-qubit Werner state is considered as an example. We also study the effects of imperfections of the chain on the state-creation.

Systems with stationary distribution of quantum correlations: open spin-1/2 chains with XY interaction

Although quantum correlations in a quantum system are characterized by the evolving quantities (which are entanglement and discord usually), we reveal such basis (i.e. the set of virtual particles) for the representation of the density matrix that the entanglement and/or discord between any two virtual particles in such representation are stationary. In particular, dealing with the nearest neighbor approximation, this system of virtual particles is represented by the $β$-fermions of the Jordan-Wigner transformation. Such systems are important in quantum information devices because the evolution of quantum entanglement/discord leads to the problems of realization of quantum operations. The advantage of stationary entanglement/discord is that they are completely defined by the initial density matrix and by the Hamiltonian governing the quantum dynamics in the system under consideration. Moreover, using the special initial condition together with the special system's geometry, we construct large cluster of virtual particles with the same pairwise entanglement/discord. In other words, the measure of quantum correlations is stationary in this system and correlations are uniformly "distributed" among all virtual particles. As examples, we use both homogeneous and non-homogeneous spin-1/2 open chains with XY-interaction although other types of interactions might be also of interest.

Informational correlation between two parties of a quantum system: short spin-1/2 chains with XY Hamiltonian

We introduce the informational correlation $E^{AB}$ between two interacting quantum subsystems $A$ and $B$ of a quantum system as the number of arbitrary parameters $φ_i$ of a unitary transformation $U^A$ (locally performed on the subsystem $A$) which may be detected in the subsystem $B$ by the local measurements. This quantity indicates whether the state of the subsystem $B$ may be effected by means of the unitary transformation applied to the subsystem $A$. Emphasize that $E^{AB}\neq E^{BA}$ in general. The informational correlations in systems with tensor product initial states are studied in more details. In particular, it is shown that the informational correlation may be changed by the local unitary transformations of the subsystem $B$. However, there is some non-reducible part of $E^{AB}(t)$ which may not be decreased by any unitary transformation of the subsystem $B$ at a fixed time instant $t$. Two examples of the informational correlations between two parties of the four node spin-1/2 chain are studied.

Remote creation of a one-qubit mixed state through a short homogeneous spin-1/2 chain

We consider a method of remote mixed state creation of a one-qubit subsystem (receiver) in a spin-1/2 chain governed by the nearest-neighbor $XY$-Hamiltonian. Owing to the evolution of the chain along with the variable local unitary transformation of the one- or two-qubit sender, a large variety of receiver states can be created during some time interval starting with a fixed initial state of the whole quantum system. These states form the creatable region of the receiver's state-space. It is remarkable that, having the two-qubit sender, a large creatable region may be covered at a properly fixed time instant $t_0$ using just the variable local unitary transformation of the sender. In this case we have completely local control of the remote state creation. In general, for a given initial state, there are such receiver's states that may not be created using the above tool. These states form the unavailable region. In turn, this unavailable region might be the creatable region of another sender. Thus, in future, we have a way to share the whole receiver's state-space among the creatable regions of several senders. The effectiveness of remote state creation is characterized by the density function of the creatable region.

Robust stationary distributed discord in Jordan-Wigner fermion system under perturbations of initial state

We investigate the Jordan-Wigner fermion clusters with the stationary distributed pairwise quantum discord. Such clusters appear after the Jordan-Wigner transformation of a spin chain governed by the nearest-neighbor XY-Hamiltonian with the particular initial state having one polarized node. We show that the quantum discord stationarity in such systems is not destroyed by the "parasitic" polarization of at least two types. First type appears because the initial state with a single polarized node is hardly realizable experimentally, so that the low polarization of neighboring nodes must be taken into account. Second, the additional noise-polarization of all nodes is unavoidable. Although the stationarity may not be destroyed by perturbations of the above two types, the parasitic polarizations deform the distribution of the pairwise discord and may destroy the clusters of correlated fermions with equal pairwise discords. Such deformations are studied in this paper.

Particular solutions to multidimensional PDEs represented in the form of one-dimensional flow

We represent an algorithm reducing the $(M+1)$-dimensional nonlinear partial differential equation (PDE) representable in the form of one-dimensional flow $u_t + w_{x_1}(u,u_{x},u_{xx},\dots)=0$, (where $w$ is an arbitrary local function of $u$ and its $x_i$-derivatives, $i=1,\dots,M$) to the family of $M$-dimensional nonlinear PDEs $F(u,w)=0$, where $F$ is general (or particular) solution of a certain second order two-dimensional nonlinear PDE. Particularly, the $M$-dimensional PDE might be an ODE which, in some cases, may be integrated yielding the explicite solutions to the original ($M+1$)-dimensional PDE. Moreover, the spectral parameter may be introduced into the function $F$ which yields a linear spectral equation associated with the original PDE. Simplest examples of nonlinear PDEs with explicite solutions are given.

Particular solutions to multidimensional PDEs with KdV-type nonlinearity

We consider a class of particular solutions to the (2+1)-dimensional nonlinear partial differential equation (PDE) $u_t +\partial_{x_2}^n u_{x_1} - u_{x_1} u =0$ (here $n$ is any integer) reducing it to the ordinary differential equation (ODE). In a simplest case, $n=1$, the ODE is solvable in terms of elementary functions. Next choice, $n=2$, yields the cnoidal waves for the special case of Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation. The proposed method is based on the deformation of the characteristic of the equation $u_t-uu_{x_1}=0$ and might also be useful in study the higher dimensional PDEs with arbitrary linear part and KdV-type nonlinearity (i.e. the nonlinear term is $u_{x_1} u$).

Information propagation in a quantum system. Examples of open spin-1/2 chains

If the information is encoded into the state of the subsystem $S$ of a quantum system initially (at $t=0$), then it becomes distributed over the whole quantum system at $t>0$ due to the quantum interactions. Consequently, this information, in general, can be extracted, either completely or partially, from any subsystem of a quantum system. {We suggest a method of extraction of information, which is based on the polarization measurements on the receiver $R$}.

Partially integrable generalizations of classical integrable models by combination of characteristics method and Hopf-Cole transformation

We represent an integration algorithm combining the characteristics method and Hopf-Cole transformation. This algorithm allows one to partially integrate a large class of multidimensional systems of nonlinear Partial Differential Equations (PDEs). A specific generalization of the equation describing the dynamics of two-dimensional viscous fluid and a generalization of the Korteweg-de Vries equation are examples of such systems. The richness of available solution space for derived nonlinear PDEs is discussed.

Quantum correlations in different density matrix representations of spin-1/2 open chain

We consider quantum correlations in a spin-1/2 open chain of $N$ nodes with the XY Hamiltonian using different bases for the density matrix representation and the initial state with a single polarized node. These bases of our choice are following: (i) the basis of eigenvectors of the fermion operators; this basis appears naturally through the Jordan-Wigner transformation (this representation of the density matrix is referred to as the $β$-representation), (ii) its Fourier representation ($c$-representation of the density matrix) and (iii) the basis of eigenvectors of the operators $I_{jz}$ (the $z$-projection of the $j$th spin, $j=1,...,N$). Although for the short chains (a few nodes) the qualitative behavior of the entanglement and the discord are very similar (the difference is quantitative), this is not valid for longer chains ($N\gtrsim 10$). In this case, there are qualitative and quantitative distinctions between the entanglement and the discord in all three cases. We underline three most important features: (i) the quantum discord is static in the $β$-representation, where the entanglement is identical to zero; (ii) in the $c$-representation, the concurrence may be non-zero only between the nearest neighbors (with a single exception), while the discord is nonzero between any two nodes; (iii) there is so-called "echo" in the evolution of the discord, which is not observed in the evolution of the concurrence. Using different bases, we may choose the preferable behavior of quantum correlations which allows a given quantum system to be more flexible in applications.

Quantum discord versus second-order MQ NMR coherence intensity in dimers

We consider the quantum discord in a two-particle spin-1/2 system (dimer) governed by the standard multiple quantum (MQ) Hamiltonian and reveal the relation between the discord and the intensity of the second-order MQ coherence. Since the coherence intensities may be measured in experiment, we obtain a method of detecting the quantum discord in experiment. Comparison of discord and concurrence is represented.

A modification of the method of characteristics: a new class of multidimensional partially integrable nonlinear systems

We represent an algorithm reducing a big class of systems of ($M+1$)-dimensional nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs) to the systems of $M$-dimensional first order PDEs. Thus, we integrate the original system with respect to only one independent variable reducing its dimensionality by one. For this reason we call such systems partially integrable ones. In particular, if M=1, then $M$-dimensional PDEs become ODEs. Our method may be referred to as a generalization of the method of characteristics. Possible application in hydrodynamics is discussed.

Asymmetry of bipartite quantum discord

It is known from the analysis of the density matrix for bipartite systems that the quantum discord (as a measure of quantum correlations) depends on the particular subsystem chosen for the projective measurements. We study asymmetry of the discord in a simple physical model of two spin-1/2 particles with the dipole-dipole interaction governed by the XY Hamiltonian in the inhomogeneous magnetic field. The dependence of the above discord asymmetry on the Larmour frequencies at both T=0 (the ground state) and $T>0$ has been investigated. It is demonstrated, in particular, that the asymmetry is negligible for high temperatures but it may become significant with the decrease in temperature.

Multiple quantum NMR dynamics in a gas of spin-carrying molecules in fluctuating nanopores

The effect of Gaussian fluctuations of nanopores filled with a gas of spin-carrying molecules ($s=1/2$) on the multiple quantum (MQ) NMR dynamics is investigated at different variances and correlation times of the fluctuations. We show that the fluctuations smooth out the evolution of MQ NMR coherence intensities which rapidly oscillate as functions of time in the absence of fluctuations. The growth and decay of the MQ coherence clusters in the fluctuating nanopore are also investigated.

The minimal entanglement of bipartite decompositions as a witness of strong entanglement in a quantum system

We {characterize the multipartite entanglement in a quantum system by the quantity} which vanishes if only the quantum system may be decomposed into two weakly entangled subsystems, unlike measures of multipartite entanglement introduced before. We refer to this {quantity} as the minimal entanglement of bipartite decompositions (MEBD). Big MEBD means that the system may not be decomposed into two weakly entangled subsystems. MEBD allows one to define, for instance, whether the given quantum system may be a candidate for a quantum register, where the above decomposition is undesirable. A method of lower estimation of MEBD is represented. Examples of big MEBD in spin-1/2 chains governed by the $H_{dz}$ Hamiltonian in the strong external magnetic field are given.

The multiple quantum NMR dynamics in systems of equivalent spins with the dipolar ordered initial state

The multiple quantum (MQ) NMR dynamics in the system of equivalent spins with the dipolar ordered initial state is considered. The high symmetry of the MQ Hamiltonian is used in order to develop the analytical and numerical methods for an investigation of the MQ NMR dynamics in the systems consisting of hundreds of spins from "the first principles". We obtain the dependence of the intensities of the MQ NMR coherences on their orders (profiles of the MQ NMR coherences) for the systems of $200 - 600$ spins. It is shown that these profiles may be well approximated by the exponential distribution functions. We also compare the MQ NMR dynamics in the systems of equivalent spins having two different initial states, namely the dipolar ordered state and the thermal equilibrium state in the strong external magnetic field.

Unitary invariant discord as a measure of bipartite quantum correlations in an $N$-qubit quantum system

We introduce a measure of quantum correlations in the $N$-qubit quantum system which is invariant with respect to the $SU(2^N)$ group of transformations of this system. This measure is a modification of the quantum discord introduced earlier and is referred to as the unitary or $SU(2^N)$-invariant discord. Since the evolution of a quantum system is equivalent to the proper unitary transformation, the introduced measure is an integral of motion and is completely defined by eigenvalues of the density matrix. As far as the calculation of the unitary invariant discord is rather complicated computational problem, we propose its modification which may be found in a simpler way. The case N=2 is considered in details. In particular, it is shown that the modified SU(4)-invariant discord reaches the maximum value for a pure state. {A geometric measure of the unitary invariant discord of an $N$-qubit state is introduced and a simple formula for this measure is derived, which allows one to consider this measure as a witness of quantum correlations.} The relation of the unitary invariant discord with the quantum state transfer along the spin chain is considered. We also compare the modified SU(4)-invariant discord with the geometric measure of SU(4)-invariant discord of the two-qubit systems in the thermal equilibrium states governed by the different Hamiltonians.

High probability state transfer in spin-1/2 chains: Analytical and numerical approaches

This article is devoted to the development of analytical and numerical approaches to the problem of the end-to-end quantum state transfer along the spin-1/2 chain using two methods: (a) a homogeneous spin chain with week end bonds and equal Larmor frequencies and (b) a homogeneous spin chain with end Larmor frequencies different from inner ones. A tridiagonal matrix representation of the XY Hamiltonian with nearest neighbor interactions relevant to the quantum state transfer is exactly diagonalized for a combination of the above two methods. In order to take into account interactions of the remote spins we used numerical simulations of the quantum state transfer in ten-node chains. We compare the state transfer times obtained using the two above methods for chains governed by the both XY and XXZ Hamiltonians and using both nearest neighbor and all node interactions.

Numerical analysis of relaxation times of multiple quantum coherences in the system with a large number of spins

We study the decay of multiple quantum (MQ) NMR coherences in systems with the large number of equivalent spins. As being created on the preparation period of MQ NMR experiment, they decay due to the dipole-dipole interactions (DDI) on the evolution period of this experiment. It is shown that the relaxation time decreases with the increase in MQ coherence order {(according to the known results)} and in the number of spins. We also consider the modified preparation period of MQ NMR experiment (G.A.Alvarez, D.Suter, PRL {\bf 104}, 230403 (2010)) concatenating the short evolution periods under the secular DDI Hamiltonian (the perturbation) with the evolution period under the non-secular averaged two-spin/two-quantum Hamiltonian. The influence of the perturbation on the decoherence rate is investigated for the systems consisting of 200-600 equivalent spins.

Differential reductions of the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation and associated higher dimensional nonlinear PDEs

We represent an algorithm allowing one to construct new classes of partially integrable multidimensional nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs) starting with the special type of solutions to the (1+1)-dimensional hierarchy of nonlinear PDEs linearizable by the matrix Hopf-Cole substitution (the Bürgers hierarchy). We derive examples of four-dimensional nonlinear matrix PDEs together with they scalar and three-dimensional reductions. Variants of the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili type and Korteweg-de Vries type equations are represented among them. Our algorithm is based on the combination of two Frobenius type reductions and special differential reduction imposed on the matrix fields of integrable PDEs. It is shown that the derived four-dimensional nonlinear PDEs admit arbitrary functions of two variables in their solution spaces which clarifies the integrability degree of these PDEs.

Multiple quantum NMR dynamics of spin-1/2 carrying molecules of a gas in nanopores

We consider the multiple quantum (MQ) NMR dynamics of a gas of spin carrying molecules in nanocavities. MQ NMR dynamics is determined by the residual dipole-dipole interactions which are not averaged completely due to the molecular diffusion in nanopores. Since the averaged non-secular Hamiltonian describing MQ NMR dynamics depends on only one coupling constant, this Hamiltonian commutes with the square of the total spin angular momentum $\hat I^2$. We use the basis of common eigenstates of $\hat I^2$ and the projection of $I$ on the external magnetic field for investigation of MQ NMR dynamics. This approach allows us to study MQ NMR dynamics in systems consisting of several hundreds of spins. The analytical approximation of the stationary profile of MQ coherences is obtained. The analytical expressions for MQ NMR coherence intensities of the five-spin system in a nanopore are found. Numerical investigations allow us to find the dependencies of intensities of MQ coherences on their orders (the profiles of MQ coherences) in systems consisting of 600 spins and even more. It is shown that the stationary MQ coherence profile in the considered system is an exponential one.

On the relationship between nonlinear equations integrable by the method of characteristics and equations associated with commuting vector fields

It was shown recently that Frobenius reduction of the matrix fields reveals interesting relations among the nonlinear Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) integrable by the Inverse Spectral Transform Method ($S$-integrable PDEs), linearizable by the Hoph-Cole substitution ($C$-integrable PDEs) and integrable by the method of characteristics ($Ch$-integrable PDEs). However, only two classes of $S$-integrable PDEs have been involved: soliton equations like Korteweg-de Vries, Nonlinear Shrödinger, Kadomtsev-Petviashvili and Davey-Stewartson equations, and $GL(N,\CC)$ Self-dual type PDEs, like Yang-Mills equation. In this paper we consider the simple five-dimensional nonlinear PDE from another class of $S$-integrable PDEs, namely, scalar nonlinear PDE which is commutativity condition of the pair of vector fields. We show its origin from the (1+1)-dimensional hierarchy of $Ch$-integrable PDEs after certain composition of Frobenius type and differential reductions imposed on the matrix fields. Matrix generalization of the above scalar nonlinear PDE will be derived as well.

Relationship between probabilities of the state transfers and entanglements in spin systems with simple geometrical configurations

In this paper we derive analytical relations between probabilities of the excited state transfers and entanglements calculated by both the Wootters and positive partial transpose (PPT) criteria for the arbitrary spin system with single excited spin in the external magnetic field and Hamiltonian commuting with $I_z$. We apply these relations to study the arbitrary state transfers and entanglements in the simple systems of nuclear spins having two- and three-dimensional geometrical configurations with $XXZ$ Hamiltonian. It is shown that High-Probability State Transfers (HPSTs) are possible among all four nodes placed in the corners of the rectangle with the proper ratio of sides as well as among all eight nodes placed in the corners of the parallelepiped with the proper ratio of sides. Entanglements responsible for these HPSTs have been identified.

Combination of inverse spectral transform method and method of characteristics: deformed Pohlmeyer equation

We apply a version of the dressing method to a system of four dimensional nonlinear Partial Differential Equations (PDEs), which contains both Pohlmeyer equation (i.e. nonlinear PDE integrable by the Inverse Spectral Transform Method) and nonlinear matrix PDE integrable by the method of characteristics as particular reductions. Some other reductions are suggested.

Matrix equations of hydrodynamic type as lower-dimensional reductions of Self-dual type $S$-integrable systems

We show that matrix $Q\times Q$ Self-dual type $S$-integrable Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) possess a family of lower-dimensional reductions represented by the matrix $ Q \times n_0 Q$ quasilinear first order PDEs solved in \cite{SZ1} by the method of characteristics. In turn, these PDEs admit two types of available particular solutions: (a) explicit solutions and (b) solutions described implicitly by a system of non-differential equations. The later solutions, in particular, exhibit the wave profile breaking. Only first type of solutions is available for (1+1)-dimensional nonlinear $S$-integrable PDEs. (1+1)-dimensional $N$-wave equation, (2+1)- and (3+1)-dimensional Pohlmeyer equations are represented as examples. We also represent a new version of the dressing method which supplies both classical solutions and solutions with wave profile breaking to the above $S$-integrable PDEs.

A variant of the Dressing Method applied to nonintegrable multidimensional nonlinear Partial Differential Equations

We describe a variant of the dressing method giving alternative representation of multidimensional nonlinear PDE as a system of Integro-Differential Equations (IDEs) for spectral and dressing functions. In particular, it becomes single linear Partial Differential Equation (PDE) with potentials expressed through the field of the nonlinear PDE. The absence of linear overdetermined system associated with nonlinear PDE creates an obstacle to obtain evolution of the spectral data (or dressing functions): evolution is defined by nonlinear IDE (or PDE in particular case). As an example, we consider generalization of the dressing method applicable to integrable (2+1)-dimensional $N$-wave and Davey-Stewartson equations. Although represented algorithm does not supply an analytic particular solutions, this approach may have a perspective development.
