Magnetic Moments of Negative Parity Baryons from Effective Hamiltonian Approach to QCD

Magnetic moments of $S_{11}(1535)$ and $S_{11}(1650)$ baryons are studied in the framework of the relativistic three-quark Hamiltonian derived in the Field Correlation Method. The baryon magnetic moments are expressed via the average current quark energies which are defined by the fundamental QCD parameters: the string tension $σ$, the quark masses, and the strong coupling constant $α_s$. For the $J^P=1/2^+$ baryon octet the approach was shown to give a good first approximation to the experimental moments. Resulting magnetic moments for the $J^P=1/2^-$ nucleons are compared both to model calculations and to those from lattice QCD.

Baryons in the Field Correlator Method

The ground and $P$-wave excited states of $nnn$, $nns$ and $ssn$ baryons are studied in the framework of the field correlator method using the running strong coupling constant in the Coulomb-like part of the three-quark potential. The string correction for the confinement potential of the orbitally excited baryons, which is the leading contribution of the proper inertia of the rotating strings, is estimated.

Diquark and triquark correlations in the deconfined phase of QCD

We use the non-perturbative Q\bar Q potential at finite temperatures derived in the Field Correlator Method to obtain binding energies for the lowest eigenstates in the Q\bar Q and QQQ systems (Q=c,b). The three--quark problem is solved by the hyperspherical method. The solution provides an estimate of the melting temperature and the radii for the different diquark and triquark bound states. In particular we find that J/ψand $ccc$ ground states survive up to T \sim 1.3 T_c, where T_c is the critical temperature, while the corresponding bottomonium states survive even up to higher temperature, T \sim 2.2 T_c.

Selected Theoretical Issues in B-meson Physics: CKM matrix and Semileptonic Decays

These notes are a written version of a lecture given at the International Seminar {\it Modern Trends and Classical Approach} devoted to the 80$^{th}$ anniversary of Prof. Karen Ter-Martirosyan, ITEP September 30 -- October 1, 2002. The notes represent a non-technical review of our present knowledge on the phenomenology of weak decays of quarks, and their rôle in the determination of the parameters of the Standard Model. They are meant as an introduction to some of the latest results and applications in the field. Specifically, we focus on CP violation in B-decays and the determination of the CKM matrix element $V_{cb}$ from semileptonic decays of $B$ mesons. We also briefly discuss phenomenological applications concerning the electron-energy spectra in semileptonic $B$ and $B_c$ decays.

A connection between inclusive semileptonic decays of bound and free heavy quarks

A relativistic constituent quark model, formulated on the light-front, is used to derive a new parton approximation for the inclusive semileptonic decay width of the B-meson. A simple connection between the decay rate of a free heavy-quark and the one of a heavy-quark bound in a meson or in a baryon is established. The main features of the new approach are the treatment of the b-quark as an on-mass-shell particle and the inclusion of the effects arising from the b-quark transverse motion in the B-meson. In a way conceptually similar to the deep-inelastic scattering case, the B-meson inclusive width is expressed as the integral of the free b-quark partial width multiplied by a bound-state factor related to the b-quark distribution function in the B-meson. The non-perturbative meson structure is described through various quark-model wave functions, constructed via the Hamiltonian light-front formalism using as input both relativized and non-relativistic potential models. A link between spectroscopic quark models and the B-meson decay physics is obtained in this way. Our predictions for the B -> X_c l nu_l and B -> X_u l nu_l decays are used to extract the CKM parameters |V_cb| and |V_ub| from available inclusive data. After averaging over the various quark models adopted and including leading-order perturbative QCD corrections, we obtain |V_cb| = (43.0 +/- 0.7_exp +/- 1.8_th) 10^-3 and |V_ub| = (3.83 +/- 0.48_exp +/- 0.14_th) 10^-3, implying |V_ub / V_cb| = 0.089 +/- 0.011_exp +/- 0.005_th, in nice agreement with existing predictions.

The B_c Meson Lifetime in the Light--Front Constituent Quark Model

We present an investigation of the total decay rate of the (ground state) B_c meson within the framework of the relativistic constituent quark model formulated on the light-front (LF). The exclusive semileptonic (SL) and nonleptonic (NL) beauty and charm decays of the B_c meson are described through vector and axial hadronic form factors, which are calculated in terms of a constituent quark model LF wave functions. The latter ones are derived via the Hamiltonian LF formalism using as input the update versions of the constituent quark model. The inclusive SL and NL partial rates are calculated within a convolution approach inspired by the partonic model and involving the same B_c wave function which is used for evaluation of the exclusive modes. The framework incorporates systematically 84 exclusive and 44 inclusive partial rates corresponding to the underlying \bar{b}\to\bar{c} and c\to s quark decays. Based on our approach we findτ_{B_c}=0.59 \pm 0.06 ps where the theoretical uncertainty is dominated by the uncertainty in the choice of LF wave functions and the threshold values for the hadron continuum. For the branching fractions of the B^+_c \to J/ψμ^+ν_μ and B_c^+\to J/ψπ^+ decays we obtain 1.6 % and 0.1 %, respectively.

Electromagnetic form factors of the $ρ$ meson in a light-front constituent quark model

The electromagnetic form factors of the $ρ$ meson are evaluated adopting a relativistic constituent quark model based on the light-front formalism, and using a meson wave function with the high-momentum tail generated by the one-gluon-exchange interaction. The breakdown of the rotational covariance for the one-body component of the current operator is investigated and the sensitivity of the ratio of the $ρ$-meson form factors to the pion (charge) form factor to the spin-dependent component of the effective $q \bar{q}$ interaction is illustrated.

Electromagnetic Structure of Mesons in a Light-Front Constituent Quark Model

The elastic and transition electromagnetic form factors of mesons are investigated within a light-front constituent quark model. The general formulae for the space-like matrix elements of the one-body component of the electromagnetic current, including both Dirac and Pauli form factors of the constituent quarks, are presented. Our results for the pion charge form factor and the $πρ$ transition form factor are reported and compared with those obtained within various relativistic approaches in a range of values of the four-momentum transfer accessible to $CEBAF$.
