Universal Hall conductivity in graphene Maxwell fish-eye quantum dot

Graphene quantum dot with Maxwell fish eye potential energy profile is studied. A quasiclassical approximation is used given that potential energy is a slowly varying function of coordinates. Near the zero energy the spectrum of electron macroscopically degenerates. All the electron trajectories are closed circles that are classified by angular momentum and an additional integral of motion. Provided the complete filling of the lower Dirac zone, a universal value for Hall conductivity is found.

Maxwell fish eye for polarized light

We consider the propagation of polarized light in the medium with Maxwell fish eye refraction index profile. We show that polarization violates the additional symmetries of medium, so that ray trajectories no longer remain closed. Then we suggest a modified, polarization-dependent Maxwell fish eye refraction index which restores all symmetries of initial profile and yields closed trajectories of polarized light. Explicit expressions for the polarization dependent integrals of motion and the solutions of corresponding ray trajectories are presented.

Extended symmetries in geometrical optics

We examine additional symmetries of specific refraction index profiles that are used in the well-known phenomena of perfect imaging and cloaking. In the considered cases, the translation generator and the angular momentum are conserved. We express the ray trajectory parameters through the integrals of motion and observe the existence of a photon state with maximal angular momentum, which can be used as an optical resonator. Application in plasmons and the role of polarization are discussed, and the Spin Hall effect in an extended symmetry profile is predicted.

Complex Faraday and Kerr Rotations in Right and Left Handed Films

By studying the rotations of the polarization of light propagating in right and left handed films, with emphasis on the transmission (Faraday effect) and reflec- tions (Kerr effect) of light and through the use of complex values representing the rotations, it can be shown that the real portions of the complex angle of Faraday and Kerr rotations are odd functions with respect to the refractive index n and that the respective imaginary portions of the angles are an even function of n. Multiple reflections within the medium lead to the maximums of the real portions of Faraday and Kerr effects to not coincide with zero ellipticity. It will also be shown that in the thin film case with left handed materials there are large resonant enhancements of the reflected Kerr angle that could be obtained experimentally.

Large diffusion lengths of excitons in perovskite and ${\it TiO_2}$ heterojunction

Solar cells based on organometal halide perovskites have recently become very promising among other materials because of their cost-effective character and improvements in efficiency. Such performance is primarily associated with effective light absorption and large diffusion length of charge carriers. Our paper is devoted to the explanation of large diffusion lengths in these systems. The transport mean free path of charged carriers in a perovskite/${\it TiO_2}$ heterojunction that is an important constituent of the solar cells have been analyzed. Large transport length is explained by the planar diffusion of indirect excitons. Diffusion length of the coupled system increases by several orders compared to single carrier length due to the correlated character of the effective field acting on the exciton.

Plasmon Enhanced Faraday Rotation in Thin Films

We have analyzed analytically the Faraday rotation of an electromagnetic wave for magnetoactive thin metallic film with a nanostructured surface profile. Periodical as well as random surface profiles were considered. The plasmon contribution to the Faraday angle was studied. For periodical grating case, we have shown that the maximum of rotation angle is achieved when surface plasmon wave number coincides with one of the wave numbers of the inverse lattice. Enhancement of the Faraday angle at plasmonic band edges is predicted. In the case of random surface profile, it is shown that the diffusion of surface magnetoplasmons gives a dominant contribution to Faraday rotation. Comparison with the experiments is carried out.
