Higher theta series for unitary groups over function fields

In previous work, we defined certain virtual fundamental classes for special cycles on the moduli stack of Hermitian shtukas, and related them to the higher derivatives of non-singular Fourier coefficients of Siegel-Eisenstein series. In the present article, we construct virtual fundamental classes in greater generality, including those expected to relate to the higher derivatives of singular Fourier coefficients. We assemble these classes into "higher" theta series, which we conjecture to be modular. Two types of evidence are presented: structural properties affirming that the cycle classes behave as conjectured under certain natural operations such as intersection products, and verification of modularity in several special situations. One innovation underlying these results is a new approach to special cycles in terms of derived algebraic geometry.

Rigidity method for automorphic forms over function fields

These are lectures given at the 2022 Arizona Winter School. It gives an introduction to the rigidity method for constructing automorphic forms for semisimple groups over function fields. The rigidity method leads to explicit constructions of local systems that are Langlands parameters of automorphic forms. The examples of local systems produced in this way have applications to algebraic geometry and number theory.

Special cycles for Shtukas are closed

In this paper we give a different proof of a theorem of Paul Breutmann: for a Bruhat-Tits group scheme $\mathcal{H}$ over a smooth projective curve $X$ and a closed embedding into another smooth affine group scheme $\mathcal{G}$, the induced map on the moduli of Shtukas $Sht^{r}_{\mathcal{H}}\to Sht^{r}_{\mathcal{G}}$ is schematic, finite and unramified. This result enables one to define special cycles on the moduli stack of Shtukas.

Shtukas and the Taylor expansion of $L$-functions (II)

For arithmetic applications, we extend and refine our results in \cite{YZ} to allow ramifications in a minimal way. Starting with a possibly ramified quadratic extension $F'/F$ of function fields over a finite field in odd characteristic, and a finite set of places $Σ$ of $F$ that are unramified in $F'$, we define a collection of Heegner--Drinfeld cycles on the moduli stack of $\mathrm{PGL}_{2}$-Shtukas with $r$-modifications and Iwahori level structures at places of $Σ$. For a cuspidal automorphic representation $π$ of $\mathrm{PGL}_{2}(\mathbb{A}_{F})$ with square-free level $Σ$, and $r\in\mathbb{Z}_{\ge0}$ whose parity matches the root number of $π_{F'}$, we prove a series of identities between: (1) The product of the central derivatives of the normalized $L$-functions $\mathcal{L}^{(a)}(π, 1/2)\mathcal{L}^{(r-a)}(π\otimesη, 1/2)$, where $η$ is the quadratic idèle class character attached to $F'/F$, and $0\le a\le r$; (2) The self intersection number of a linear combination of Heegner--Drinfeld cycles. In particular, we can now obtain global $L$-functions with odd vanishing orders. These identities are function-field analogues of the formulas of Waldspurger and Gross--Zagier for higher derivatives of $L$-functions.

$\mathbb{Z}/m\mathbb{Z}$-graded Lie algebras and perverse sheaves, III: graded double affine Hecke algebra

In this paper we construct representations of certain graded double affine Hecke algebras (DAHA) with possibly unequal parameters from geometry. More precisely, starting with a simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ together with a $\mathbb{Z}/m\mathbb{Z}$-grading $\oplus_{i}\mathfrak{g}_{i}$ and a block of $G_{\underline{0}}$-equivariant complexes on the nilpotent cone of $\mathfrak{g}_{\underline{1}}$ as introduced in \cite{LY1}, we attach a graded DAHA and construct its action on the direct sum of spiral inductions in that block. This generalizes results of Vasserot \cite{V} and Oblomkov-Yun \cite{OY} which correspond to the case of the principal block.

Geometric representations of graded and rational Cherednik algebras

We provide geometric constructions of modules over the graded Cherednik algebra $\mathfrak{H}^{gr}_ν$ and the rational Cherednik algebra $\mathfrak{H}^{rat}_ν$ attached to a simple algebraic group $\mathbb{G}$ together with a pinned automorphism $θ$. These modules are realized on the cohomology of affine Springer fibers (of finite type) that admit $\mathbb{C}^*$-actions. In the rational Cherednik algebra case, the standard grading on these modules is derived from the perverse filtration on the cohomology of affine Springer fibers coming from its global analog: Hitchin fibers. When $θ$ is trivial, we show that our construction gives the irreducible finite-dimensional spherical modules $\mathfrak{L}_ν(triv)$ of $\mathfrak{H}^{gr}_ν$ and of $\mathfrak{H}^{rat}_ν$. We give a formula for the dimension of $\mathfrak{L}_ν(triv)$ and give a geometric interpretation of its Frobenius algebra structure. The rank two cases are studied in further details.

Epipelagic representations and rigid local systems

We construct automorphic representations for quasi-split groups $G$ over the function field $F=k(t)$ one of whose local components is an epipelagic representation in the sense of Reeder and Yu. We also construct the attached Galois representations under the Langlands correspondence. These Galois representations give new classes of conjecturally rigid, wildly ramified $^{L}G$-local systems over $\mathbb{P}^{1}-\{0,\infty\}$ that generalize the Kloosterman sheaves constructed earlier by Heinloth, Ngô and the author. We study the monodromy of these local systems and compute all examples when $G$ is a classical group.

On Koszul duality for Kac-Moody groups

For any Kac-Moody group $G$ with Borel $B$, we give a monoidal equivalence between the derived category of $B$-equivariant mixed complexes on the flag variety $G/B$ and (a certain completion of) the derived category of $B^\vee$-monodromic mixed complexes on the enhanced flag variety $G^\vee/U^\vee$, here $G^\vee$ is the Langlands dual of $G$. We also prove variants of this equivalence, one of which is the equivalence between the derived category of $U$-equivariant mixed complexes on the partial flag variety $G/P$ and certain "Whittaker model" category of mixed complexes on $G^\vee/B^\vee$. In all these equivalences, intersection cohomology sheaves correspond to (free-monodromic) tilting sheaves. Our results generalize the Koszul duality patterns for reductive groups in the work of Beilinson, Ginzburg and Soergel .

Rigidity in automorphic representations and local systems

We introduce the notion of rigidity for automorphic representations of groups over global function fields. We construct the Langlands parameters of rigid automorphic representations explicitly as local systems over open curves. We expect these local systems to be rigid. Examples of rigid automorphic representations from previous work are reviewed and more examples for $GL_{2}$ are discussed in details.

Orbital integrals and Dedekind zeta functions

Let F be a local non-archimedean field. We prove a formula relating orbital integrals in GL(n,F) (for the unit Hecke function) and the generating series counting ideals of a certain ring. Using this formula, we give an explicit estimate for such orbital integrals. We also derive an analogous formula for global fields, proving analytic properties of the Dedekind zeta function for orders in global fields.

A $(-q)$-analogue of weight multiplicities

We prove a conjecture in \cite{L} stating that certain polynomials $P^σ_{y,w}(q)$ introduced in \cite{LV1} for twisted involutions in an affine Weyl group give $(-q)$-analogues of weight multiplicities of the Langlands dual group $\check{G}$. We also prove that the signature of a naturally defined hermitian form on each irreducible representation of $\check{G}$ can be expressed in terms of these polynomials $P^σ_{y,w}(q)$.

Macdonald formula for curves with planar singularities

We generalize Macdonald's formula for the cohomology of Hilbert schemes of points on a curve from smooth curves to curves with planar singularities: we relate the cohomology of the Hilbert schemes to the cohomology of the compactified Jacobian of the curve. The new formula is a consequence of a stronger identity between certain perverse sheaves defined by a family of curves satisfying mild conditions. The proof makes an essential use of Ngo's support theorem for compactified Jacobians and generalizes this theorem to the relative Hilbert scheme of such families. As a consequence, we generalize part of the Weil conjectures to the Hilbert-zeta function of curves with planar singularities.

Motives with exceptional Galois groups and the inverse Galois problem

We construct motivic $\ell$-adic representations of $\GQ$ into exceptional groups of type $E_7,E_8$ and $G_2$ whose image is Zariski dense. This answers a question of Serre. The construction is uniform for these groups and uses the Langlands correspondence for function fields. As an application, we solve new cases of the inverse Galois problem: the finite simple groups $E_{8}(\FF_{\ell})$ are Galois groups over $\QQ$ for large enough primes $\ell$.

The spherical part of the local and global Springer actions

The affine Weyl group acts on the cohomology (with compact support) of affine Springer fibers (local Springer theory) and of parabolic Hitchin fibers (global Springer theory). In this paper, we show that in both situations, the action of the center of the group algebra of the affine Weyl group (the spherical part) factors through the action of the component group of the relevant centralizers. In the situation of affine Springer fibers, this partially verifies a conjecture of Goresky-Kottwitz-MacPherson and Bezrukavnikov-Varshavsky. We first prove this result for the global Springer action, and then deduce the result for the local Springer action from that of the global one. The argument strongly relies on the fact that we can deform points on a curve, hence giving an example of using global Springer theory to solve more classical problems.

Kloosterman sheaves for reductive groups

Deligne constructed a remarkable local system on $\bP^1-\{0,\infty\}$ attached to a family of Kloosterman sums. Katz calculated its monodromy and asked whether there are Kloosterman sheaves for general reductive groups and which automorphic forms should be attached to these local systems under the Langlands correspondence. Motivated by work of Gross and Frenkel-Gross we find an explicit family of such automorphic forms and even a simple family of automorphic sheaves in the framework of the geometric Langlands program. We use these automorphic sheaves to construct l-adic Kloosterman sheaves for any reductive group in a uniform way, and describe the local and global monodromy of these Kloosterman sheaves. In particular, they give motivic Galois representations with exceptional monodromy groups G_2,F_4,E_7 and E_8. This also gives an example of the geometric Langlands correspondence with wild ramifications for any reductive group.

Weights of mixed tilting sheaves and geometric Ringel duality

We describe several general methods for calculating weights of mixed tilting sheaves. We introduce a notion called "non-cancellation property" which implies a strong uniqueness of mixed tilting sheaves and enables one to calculate their weights effectively. When we have a certain Radon transform, we prove a geometric analogue of Ringel duality which sends tilting objects to projective objects. We apply these methods to (partial) flag varieties and affine (partial) flag varieties and show that the weight polynomials of mixed tilting sheaves on flag and affine flag varieties are essentially given by Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials. This verifies a mixed geometric analogue of a conjecture by W.Soergel in \cite{Sg1}.

Goresky-MacPherson calculus for the affine flag varieties

We use the fixed point arrangement technique developed by Goresky-MacPherson to calculate the part of the equivariant cohomology of the affine flag varieties generated by degree 2. This turns out to be a quadric cone. We also describe the spectrum of the full equivariant cohomology ring as an explicit geometric object. We use our results to show that the vertices of the moment map images of the affine flag varieties lie on a paraboloid.
