On generalized Beauville decompositions

Motivated by the Beauville decomposition of an abelian scheme and the "Perverse = Chern" phenomenon for a compactified Jacobian fibration, we study in this paper splittings of the perverse filtration for compactified Jacobian fibrations. On the one hand, we prove for the Beauville-Mukai system associated with an irreducible curve class on a $K3$ surface the existence of a Fourier-stable multiplicative splitting of the perverse filtration, which extends the Beauville decomposition for the nonsingular fibers. Our approach is to construct a Lefschetz decomposition associated with a Fourier-conjugate $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-triple, which relies heavily on recent work concerning the interaction between derived equivalences and LLV algebras for hyper-Kähler varieties. Motivic lifting and connections to the Beauville-Voisin conjectures are also discussed. On the other hand, we construct for any $g\geq 2$ a compactified Jacobian fibration of genus $g$ curves such that each curve is integral with at worst simple nodes and the (multiplicative) perverse filtration does not admit a multiplicative splitting. Our argument relies on the recently established universal double ramification cycle relations. This shows that in general an extension of the Beauville decomposition cannot exist for compactified Jacobian fibrations even when the simplest singular point appears.

Logarithmic Donaldson-Thomas theory

Let $X$ be a smooth threefold with a simple normal crossings divisor $D$. We construct the Donaldson-Thomas theory of the pair $(X|D)$ enumerating ideal sheaves on $X$ relative to $D$. These moduli spaces are compactified by studying subschemes in expansions of the target geometry, and the moduli space carries a virtual fundamental class leading to numerical invariants with expected properties. We formulate punctual evaluation, rationality and wall-crossing conjectures, in parallel with the standard theory. Our formalism specializes to the Li-Wu theory of relative ideal sheaves when the divisor is smooth, and is parallel to recent work on logarithmic Gromov-Witten theory with expansions.

Fourier-Mukai transforms and the decomposition theorem for integrable systems

We study the interplay between the Fourier-Mukai transform and the decomposition theorem for an integrable system $π: M \rightarrow B$. Our main conjecture is that the Fourier-Mukai transform of sheaves of Kähler differentials, after restriction to the formal neighborhood of the zero section, are quantized by the Hodge modules arising in the decomposition theorem for $π$. For an integrable system, our formulation unifies the Fourier-Mukai calculation of the structure sheaf by Arinkin-Fedorov, the theorem of the higher direct images by Matsushita, and the "perverse = Hodge" identity by the second and the third authors. As evidence, we show that these Fourier-Mukai images are Cohen-Macaulay sheaves with middle-dimensional support on the relative Picard space, with support governed by the higher discriminants of the integrable system. We also prove the conjecture for smooth integrable systems and certain 2-dimensional families with nodal singular fibers. Finally, we sketch the proof when cuspidal fibers appear.

Lehn's formula in Chow and Conjectures of Beauville and Voisin

The Beauville-Voisin conjecture for a hyperkähler manifold X states that the subring of the Chow ring A^*(X) generated by divisor classes and Chern characters of the tangent bundle injects into the cohomology ring of X. We prove a weak version of this conjecture when X is the Hilbert scheme of points on a K3 surface, for the subring generated by divisor classes and tautological classes. This in particular implies the weak splitting conjecture of Beauville for these geometries. In the process, we extend Lehn's formula and the Li-Qin-Wang W_{1+infinity} algebra action from cohomology to Chow groups, for the Hilbert scheme of an arbitrary smooth projective surface S

On the P=W conjecture for $\mathrm{SL}_n$

Let $p$ be a prime number. We prove that the $P=W$ conjecture for $\mathrm{SL}_p$ is equivalent to the $P=W$ conjecture for $\mathrm{GL}_p$. As a consequence, we verify the $P=W$ conjecture for genus 2 and $\mathrm{SL}_p$. For the proof, we compute the perverse filtration and the weight filtration for the variant cohomology associated with the $\mathrm{SL}_p$-Hitchin moduli space and the $\mathrm{SL}_p$-twisted character variety, relying on Gröchenig-Wyss-Ziegler's recent proof of the topological mirror conjecture by Hausel-Thaddeus. Finally we discuss obstructions of studying the cohomology of the $\mathrm{SL}_n$-Hitchin moduli space via compact hyper-Kähler manifolds.

Stable pairs and Gopakumar-Vafa type invariants for Calabi-Yau 4-folds

As an analogy to Gopakumar-Vafa conjecture on CY 3-folds, Klemm-Pandharipande defined GV type invariants on CY 4-folds using GW theory and conjectured their integrality. In this paper, we define stable pair type invariants on CY 4-folds and use them to interpret these GV type invariants. Examples are computed for both compact and non-compact CY 4-folds to support our conjectures.

Genus zero Gopakumar-Vafa type invariants for Calabi-Yau 4-folds

In analogy with the Gopakumar-Vafa conjecture on CY 3-folds, Klemm and Pandharipande defined GV type invariants on Calabi-Yau 4-folds using Gromov-Witten theory and conjectured their integrality. In this paper, we propose a sheaf-theoretic interpretation of their genus zero invariants using Donaldson-Thomas theory on CY 4-folds. More specifically, we conjecture genus zero GV type invariants are $\mathrm{DT_{4}}$ invariants for one-dimensional stable sheaves on CY 4-folds. Some examples are computed for both compact and non-compact CY 4-folds to support our conjectures. We also propose an equivariant version of the conjectures for local curves and verify them in certain cases.

Purity for graded potentials and quantum cluster positivity

Consider a smooth quasiprojective variety X equipped with a C*-action, and a regular function f: X -> C which is C*-equivariant with respect to a positive weight action on the base. We prove the purity of the mixed Hodge structure and the hard Lefschetz theorem on the cohomology of the vanishing cycle complex of f on proper components of the critical locus of f, generalizing a result of Steenbrink for isolated quasi-homogeneous singularities. Building on work of Kontsevich-Soibelman, Nagao and Efimov, we use this result to prove the quantum positivity conjecture for cluster mutations for all quivers admitting a positively graded nondegenerate potential. We deduce quantum positivity for all quivers of rank at most 4; quivers with nondegenerate potential admitting a cut; and quivers with potential associated to triangulations of surfaces with marked points and nonempty boundary.

Stable pairs and the HOMFLY polynomial

Given a planar curve singularity, we prove a conjecture of Oblomkov-Shende, relating the geometry of its Hilbert scheme of points to the HOMFLY polynomial of the associated algebraic link. More generally, we prove an extension of this conjecture, due to Diaconescu-Hua-Soibelman, relating stable pair invariants on the conifold to the colored HOMFLY polynomial of the algebraic link. Our proof uses wall-crossing techniques to prove a blowup identity on the algebro-geometric side. We prove a matching identity for the colored HOMFLY polynomials of a link using skein-theoretic techniques.

Supersingular K3 surfaces for large primes

Given a K3 surface X over a field of characteristic p, Artin conjectured that if X is supersingular (meaning infinite height) then its Picard rank is 22. Along with work of Nygaard-Ogus, this conjecture implies the Tate conjecture for K3 surfaces over finite fields with p \geq 5. We prove Artin's conjecture under the additional assumption that X has a polarization of degree 2d with p > 2d+4. Assuming semistable reduction for surfaces in characteristic p, we can improve the main result to K3 surfaces which admit a polarization of degree prime-to-p when p \geq 5. The argument uses Borcherds' construction of automorphic forms on O(2,n) to construct ample divisors on the moduli space. We also establish finite-characteristic versions of the positivity of the Hodge bundle and the Kulikov-Pinkham-Persson classification of K3 degenerations. In the appendix by A. Snowden, a compatibility statement is proven between Clifford constructions and integral p-adic comparison functors.

Macdonald formula for curves with planar singularities

We generalize Macdonald's formula for the cohomology of Hilbert schemes of points on a curve from smooth curves to curves with planar singularities: we relate the cohomology of the Hilbert schemes to the cohomology of the compactified Jacobian of the curve. The new formula is a consequence of a stronger identity between certain perverse sheaves defined by a family of curves satisfying mild conditions. The proof makes an essential use of Ngo's support theorem for compactified Jacobians and generalizes this theorem to the relative Hilbert scheme of such families. As a consequence, we generalize part of the Weil conjectures to the Hilbert-zeta function of curves with planar singularities.

Quantum cohomology of the Springer resolution

Let G denote a complex, semisimple, simply-connected group. We identify the equivariant quantum differential equation for the cotangent bundle to the flag variety of G with the affine Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov connection of Cherednik and Matsuo. This recovers Kim's description of quantum cohomology of the flag variety itself as a limiting case. A parallel result is proven for resolutions of the Slodowy slices. Extension to arbitrary symplectic resolutions is discussed.

Gromov-Witten theory of A_n-resolutions

We give a complete solution for the reduced Gromov-Witten theory of resolved surface singularities of type A_n, for any genus, with arbitrary descendent insertions. We also present a partial evaluation of the T-equivariant relative Gromov-Witten theory of the threefold A_n x P^1 which, under a nondegeneracy hypothesis, yields a complete solution for the theory. The results given here allow comparison of this theory with the quantum cohomology of the Hilbert scheme of points on the A_n surfaces. We discuss generalizations to linear Hodge insertions and to surface resolutions of type D,E. As a corollary, we present a new derivation of the stationary Gromov-Witten theory of P^1.
