Rescuing leptogenesis in inverse seesaw models with the help of non-Abelian flavor symmetries

The inverse seesaw (ISS) model provides an attractive framework that can naturally explain the smallness of neutrino masses while accommodating some sterile neutrinos potentially accessible at present or future experiments. However, in generic ISS models with hierarchical pseudo-Dirac (PD) sterile neutrino pairs, the generation of the observed baryon asymmetry of the Universe via the leptogenesis mechanism is extremely challenging. In this paper, we investigate rescuing leptogenesis in the ISS model with the help of non-Abelian flavor symmetries which have the potential to explain the observed peculiar neutrino mixing pattern: we first implement non-Abelian flavor symmetries to naturally enforce mass degeneracies among different pseudo-Dirac sterile neutrino pairs and then break them in a proper way so that resonant leptogenesis among different PD sterile neutrino pairs can arise, thus enhancing the generated baryon asymmetry. To be specific, we have considered the following two well-motivated approaches for generating the tiny mass splittings among different PD sterile neutrino pairs: one approach makes use of the renormalization-group corrections to the sterile neutrino masses, while the other approach invokes non-trivial flavor structure of the $μ_{\rm s}$ matrix. For these two scenarios, we aim to explore the viability of leptogenesis and to identify the conditions under which the observed baryon asymmetry can be successfully reproduced.

A combination of the neutrino trimaximal mixings and mu-tau reflection symmetry in the type-I seesaw model

In this paper, we make an attempt to combine the neutrino trimaximal (TM1 and TM2) mixings and $μ$-$τ$ reflection symmetry in the type-I seesaw model. Such a scenario is highly restrictive and predictive: in addition to three right-handed neutrino masses, there are only five real parameters; all the lepton flavor mixing parameters except for $θ^{}_{13}$ will be predicted. The relations between the model parameters and the measurable neutrino parameters will be derived. The implications of this scenario for leptogenesis will be explored in detail. A further reduction of this scenario to the more restrictive and predictive minimal seesaw model with only two right-handed neutrinos will also be considered. In addition, we will also discuss a possible approach to get the desired mass matrices and study the compatibility of the trimaximal $μ$-$τ$ reflection symmetry with texture zeros.

Simiplified textures of the seesaw model for the trimaximal neutrino mixings

In the seesaw framework, in the basis of $M^{}_{\rm R}$ being diagonal, we explore the simplified textures of $M^{}_{\rm D}$ that can naturally yield the trimaximal neutrino mixings and their consequences for the neutrino parameters and leptogenesis. We first formulate the generic textures of $M^{}_{\rm D}$ that can naturally yield the trimaximal mixings and then examine if their parameters can be further reduced. Our analysis is restricted to the simple but instructive scenario that there is only one phase parameter $ϕ$ responsible for both the CP violating effects at low energies and leptogenesis. Our attention is paid to the textures of $M^{}_{\rm D}$ that possess some vanishing or equal elements. On the basis of these results, we further examine if $ϕ$ can also take a particular value. The consequences of the phenomenologically-viable simplified textures for the neutrino parameters and leptogenesis are studied. A concrete flavor-symmetry model that can realize one representation of them is given.

Fermion Localization and Degenerate Resonances on Brane Array

In this work, we consider the multi-wall braneworld arisen from multi-scalar fields, and investigate the localization and resonances of spin-1/2 fermion on the multi-walls. We build two analytic multi-wall solutions with a polynomial superpotential and a modified sine-Gordon superpotential respectively. The massless fermion is the only bound state and localized between the two outermost sub-branes. The factors affecting the number of massive resonant fermions are analyzed. What interesting is that all the fermion resonant states are non-degenerate for the cases of single- and two-walls, however, doubly-degenerate fermion resonant states emerge for the cases of three- and four-walls. This novel phenomenon could be potentially interesting in phenomenology.

Towards the meV limit of the effective neutrino mass in neutrinoless double-beta decays

In this paper, we emphasize why it is important for future neutrinoless double-beta ($0νββ$) decay experiments to reach the sensitivity to the effective neutrino mass $|m^{}_{ββ}| \approx 1~{\rm meV}$. Assuming such a sensitivity and the precisions on neutrino oscillation parameters after the JUNO experiment, we fully explore the constrained regions of the lightest neutrino mass $m^{}_1$ and two Majorana-type CP-violating phases $\{ρ, σ\}$. The implications for the neutrino mass spectrum, the effective neutrino mass $m^{}_β$ in beta decays and the sum of three neutrino masses $Σ\equiv m^{}_1 + m^{}_2 + m^{}_3$ relevant for cosmological observations are also discussed.

A review of mu-tau flavor symmetry in neutrino physics

Behind the observed pattern of lepton flavor mixing is a partial or approximate mu-tau flavor symmetry --- a milestone on our road to the true origin of neutrino masses and flavor structures. In this review article we first describe the features of mu-tau permutation and reflection symmetries, and then explore their various consequences on model building and neutrino phenomenology. We pay particular attention to soft mu-tau symmetry breaking, which is crucial for our deeper understanding of the fine effects of flavor mixing and CP violation.

On the breaking of mu-tau flavor symmetry

In light of the observation of a relatively large $θ^{}_{13}$, one has to consider breaking the $μ$-$τ$ symmetry properly which would otherwise result in a vanishing $θ^{}_{13}$ (as well as $θ^{}_{23} = π/4$). Therefore, we investigate various symmetry-breaking patterns and accordingly identify those that are phenomenologically viable. Furthermore, the symmetry-breaking effects arising from some specific physics (e.g., the renormalization group equation running effect) are discussed as well.

A modified Friedberg-Lee symmetry for the TM1 neutrino mixing

In this letter, we put forward a special neutrino mass matrix which is invariant under a modified Friedberg-Lee (FL) transformation $ν^{}_e \to ν^{}_e-2θ$ and $ν^{}_{μ, τ} \to ν^{}_{μ, τ}+θ$ with $θ$ being a space-time independent element of the Grassmann algebra. Compared to the original FL symmetry (with the transformation $ν^{}_{e, μ, τ} \to ν^{}_{e, μ, τ}+θ$) which results in the TM2 neutrino mixing, the modified FL symmetry will lead us to the TM1 mixing which has a better agreement with the experimental results. While the original FL symmetry has to be broken in order to produce a realistic neutrino mass spectrum, the modified FL symmetry is allowed to remain intact and give us a vanishing $m^{}_1$. A combination of the FL symmetry with the $μ$-$τ$ reflection symmetry is also discussed.

How to interpret a discovery or null result of the $0ν2β$ decay

The Majorana nature of massive neutrinos will be crucially probed in the next-generation experiments of the neutrinoless double-beta ($0ν2β$) decay. The effective mass term of this process, $\langle m\rangle^{}_{ee}$, may be contaminated by new physics. So how to interpret a discovery or null result of the $0ν2β$ decay in the foreseeable future is highly nontrivial. In this paper we introduce a novel three-dimensional description of $|\langle m\rangle_{ee}^{}|$, which allows us to see its sensitivity to the lightest neutrino mass and two Majorana phases in a transparent way. We take a look at to what extent the free parameters of $|\langle m\rangle_{ee}^{}|$ can be well constrained provided a signal of the $0ν2β$ decay is observed someday. To fully explore lepton number violation, all the six effective Majorana mass terms $\langle m\rangle_{αβ}^{}$ (for $α, β= e, μ, τ$) are calculated and their lower bounds are illustrated with the two-dimensional contour figures. The effect of possible new physics on the $0ν2β$ decay is also discussed in a model-independent way. We find that the result of $|\langle m\rangle_{ee}^{}|$ in the normal (or inverted) neutrino mass ordering case modified by the new physics effect may somewhat mimic that in the inverted (or normal) mass ordering case in the standard three-flavor scheme. Hence a proper interpretation of a discovery or null result of the $0ν2β$ decay may demand extra information from some other measurements.

Localization and mass spectra of various matter fields on scalar-tensor brane

Recently, a new scalar-tensor braneworld model was presented in [Phys. Rev. \textbf{D 86} (2012) 127502]. It not only solves the gauge hierarchy problem but also reproduces a correct Friedmann-like equation on the brane. In this new model, there are two different brane solutions, for which the mass spectra of gravity on the brane are the same. In this paper, we investigate localization and mass spectra of various bulk matter fields (i.e., scalar, vector, Kalb-Ramond, and fermion fields) on the brane. It is shown that the zero modes of all the matter fields can be localized on the positive tension brane under some conditions, and the mass spectra of each kind of bulk matter field for the two brane solutions are different, which implies that the two brane solutions are not physically equivalent.

On the four-zero texture of quark mass matrices and its stability

We carry out a new study of quark mass matrices $M^{}_{\rm u}$ (up-type) and $M^{}_{\rm d}$ (down-type) which are Hermitian and have four zero entries, and find a new part of the parameter space which was missed in the previous works. We identify two more specific four-zero patterns of $M^{}_{\rm u}$ and $M^{}_{\rm d}$ with fewer free parameters, and present two toy flavor-symmetry models which can help realize such special and interesting quark flavor structures. We also show that the texture zeros of $M^{}_{\rm u}$ and $M^{}_{\rm d}$ are essentially stable against the evolution of energy scales in an analytical way by using the one-loop renormalization-group equations.

$U(1)$ Gauge Field Localization on Bloch Brane with Chumbes-Holf da Silva-Hott Mechanism

We follow the Chumbes-Holf da Silva-Hott (CHH) mechanism to study the (qusi-)localization of $U(1)$ gauge field on the Bloch brane. The localization of $U(1)$ gauge field is discussed for four kinds of Bloch brane solutions: the original Bloch brane solution, the generalized Bloch brane solution, and the degenerate Bloch brane solutions I and II. With the CHH mechanism, we find that the mass spectrum of the gauge field Kaluza-Klein modes is continuous and only the zero mode of the gauge field is localized on the brane. For the massive modes, there exist resonant modes only on the degenerate Bloch branes.

A Realization of Effective SUSY with Strong Unification

A natural model of realizing the effective supersymmetry is presented. Two sets of the Standard Model-like gauge group $G_1\times G_2$ are introduced, where $G_i=SU(3)_i\times SU(2)_i\times U(1)_i$, which break diagonally to the Standard Model gauge group at the energy scale $M \sim 10^7$ GeV. Gauge couplings in $G_1$ are assumed much larger than that in $G_2$. Gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking is adopted. The first two generations (third one) are charged only under $G_1$ ($G_2$). The effective supersymmetry spectrum is obtained. How to reproduce realistic Yukawa couplings is studied. Fine-tuning for an 126 GeV Higgs is much reduced by the large $A$ term due to direct Higgs-messenger interaction. Finally, $G_2$ is found to be a non-trivial realization of the strong unification scenario in which case we can predict $α_s(M_Z)$ without real unification

Brane structure and metastable graviton in five-dimensional model with (non)canonical scalar field

The appearance of inner brane structure is an interesting issue in domain wall {brane model}. Because such structure usually leads to quasilocalized modes of various kinds of bulk fields. In this paper, we construct a domain wall brane model by using a scalar field $ϕ$, which couples to its kinetic term. The inner brane structure emerges as the scalar-kinetic coupling increases. With such brane structure, we show that it is possible to obtain gravity resonant modes in both tensor and scalar sectors. The number of the resonant modes depends on the vacuum expectation value of $ϕ$ and the form of scalar-kinetic coupling. The correspondence between our model and the canonical one is also discussed. The noncanonical and canonical background scalar fields are connected by an integral equation, while the warp factor remains the same. Via this correspondence, the canonical and noncanonical models share the same linear perturbation spectrum. So the gravity resonances {obtained} in the noncanonical frame can also be obtained in the standard model. However, due to the inequivalence between the corresponding background scalar solutions, the localization condition for the left-chiral fermion zero mode can be largely different in different frames. Our estimate shows that the magnitude of the Yukawa coupling in the noncanonical frame might be hundreds times larger than the one in the canonical frame, if one demands the localization of the left-chiral fermion zero mode as well as the appearance of a few gravity resonance modes.

Minimal modifications to the Tri-Bimaximal neutrino mixing

In light of the observation of a relatively large $θ_{13}$, the ever popular Tri-Bimaximal (TBM) neutrino mixing which predicts a vanishing $θ_{13}$ needs modifications. In this paper, we shall discuss the possibility of modifying it in a minimal way to fulfil this task. In the first part, a neutrino mass matrix with three independent parameters, which leads to the TM2 mixing, is obtained by analogy with that for the TBM mixing. In the second part, a model that can realize the TM2 mixing is constructed with flavor symmetries $A_4 \times U(1) \times Z_2 \times Z_2 \times Z_2$. It is the variant of a model that gives the TBM mixing, with only one more flavon field included. Furthermore, the imaginary vacuum expectation value (VEV) of this flavon breaks the imposed CP symmetry and results in $θ_{23}=45^\circ$ and the maximal CP violation. This VEV is also helpful for providing a large enough CP asymmetry required by the leptogenesis mechanism. Besides, this model building approach can be generalized to the TM1 mixing in a straightforward way.

Tests of Lorentz and CPT Violation in the Medium Baseline Reactor Antineutrino Experiment

Tests of Lorentz and CPT violation in the medium baseline reactor antineutrino experiment are presented in the framework of the Standard Model Extension (SME). Both the spectral distortion and sidereal variation are employed to derive the limits of Lorentz violation (LV) coefficients. We do the numerical analysis of the sensitivity of LV coefficients by taking the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) as an illustration, which can improve the sensitivity by more than two orders of magnitude compared with the current limits from reactor antineutrino experiments.

$θ_{13}$ and the Higgs mass from high scale supersymmetry

In the framework in which supersymmetry is used for understanding fermion masses rather than stabilizing the electroweak scale, we elaborate the phenomenological analysis for the neutrino physics. A relatively large $\sin{θ_{13}}$ is the natural result. The model further predicts vanishingly small CP violation in neutrino oscillations. And $θ_{23}$ is not necessarily maximal. While the high scale supersymmetry generically results in a Higgs mass of about 141 GeV, our model reduces this mass via introducing SU(2)$_L$ triplet fields which also contribute to neutrino masses.

Non-perturbative procedure for stable $K$-brane

We propose a novel first-order formalism for a type of $K$-brane systems. An example solution is presented and studied. We illustrate how the noncanonical kinetic term can affect the properties of the model, such as the stability of the solutions, the localization of fermion and graviton. We argue that our solution is stable against linear perturbations. The tensor zero mode of graviton can be localized while the scalar zero mode cannot. The localization condition for fermion is also discussed.

Thick branes with a nonminimally coupled bulk-scalar field

In this paper, we investigate thick branes with a nonminimally coupled background scalar field, whose solution is a single-kink or a double-kink. The effects of the nonminimal coupling constant $ξ$ on the structure of the thick branes and the localization of gravity, fermions, scalars and vectors are discussed. It is shown that each brane will split into two sub-branes as increasing the nonminimal coupling constant $ξ$. By investigating the tensor perturbation equations of gravity and the general covariant Dirac equation of fermions, we find that both the gravity zero mode and left-chiral fermion zero mode are localized at the center of the single-kink branes and localized between the two sub-branes generated by the double-kink, which indicates that the constant $ξ$ does not effect the localization of these zero modes. However, the zero mode of scalars is localized on each sub-brane (for both single-kink and double-kink branes) when $ξ$ is larger than its critical value $ξ_0$. The effects of the nonminimal coupling constant $ξ$ on the resonances of gravity and fermions with finite lifetime on the branes are also discussed.

Understanding for flavor physics in the lepton sector

In this paper, we give a model for understanding flavor physics in the lepton sector--mass hierarchy among different generations and neutrino mixing pattern. The model is constructed in the framework of supersymmetry, with a family symmetry $S4*U(1)$. There are two right-handed neutrinos introduced for seesaw mechanism, while some standard model(SM) gauge group singlet fields are included which transforms non-trivially under family symmetry. In the model, each order of contributions are suppressed by $δ\sim 0.1$ compared to the previous one. In order to reproduce the mass hierarchy, $m_τ$ and $\sqrt{Δm_{atm}^2}$, $m_μ$ and $\sqrt{Δm_{sol}^2}$ are obtained at leading-order(LO) and next-to-leading-order(NLO) respectively, while electron can only get its mass through next-to-next-to-next-to-leading-order(NNNLO) contributions. For neutrino mixing angels, $θ_{12}, θ_{23}, θ_{13}$ are $45^\circ, 45^\circ, 0$ i.e. Bi-maximal mixing pattern as first approximation, while higher order contributions can make them consistent with experimental results. As corrections for $θ_{12}$ and $θ_{13}$ originate from the same contribution, there is a relation predicted for them $\sin{θ_{13}}=\displaystyle \frac{1-\tan{θ_{12}}}{1+\tan{θ_{12}}}$. Besides, deviation from $\displaystyle \fracπ{4}$ for $θ_{23}$ should have been as large as deviation from 0 for $θ_{13}$ if it were not the former is suppressed by a factor 4 compared to the latter.

Area spectrum of Schwarzschild black hole inspired by noncommutative geometry

It is known that, in the noncommutative Schwarzschild black hole spacetime, the point-like object is replaced by the smeared object, whose mass density is described by a Gaussian distribution of minimal width $\sqrtθ$ with $θ$ the noncommutative parameter. The elimination of the point-like structures makes it quite different from the conventional Schwarzschild black hole. In this paper, we mainly investigate the area spectrum and entropy spectrum for the noncommutative Schwarzschild black hole with $0\leq θ\leq (\frac{M}{1.90412})^{2}$. By the use of the new physical interpretation of the quasinormal modes of black holes presented by Maggiore, we obtain the quantized area spectrum and entropy spectrum with the modified Hod's and Kunstatter's methods, respectively. The results show that: (1) The area spectrum and entropy spectrum are discrete. (2) The spectrum spacings are dependent on the parameter $\frac{M}{\sqrtθ}$. (3) The spacing of the area spectrum of the noncommutative Schwarzschild black hole is smaller than that of the conventional one. So does the spacing of the entropy spectrum. (4) The spectra from the two methods are consistent with each other.

Domain wall brane in squared curvature gravity

We suggest a thick braneworld model in the squared curvature gravity theory. Despite the appearance of higher order derivatives, the localization of gravity and various bulk matter fields is shown to be possible. The existence of the normalizable gravitational zero mode indicates that our four-dimensional gravity is reproduced. In order to localize the chiral fermions on the brane, two types of coupling between the fermions and the brane forming scalar is introduced. The first coupling leads us to a Schrödinger equation with a volcano potential, and the other a Pöschl-Teller potential. In both cases, the zero mode exists only for the left-hand fermions. Several massive KK states of the fermions can be trapped on the brane, either as resonant states or as bound states.

Effects of temperature on thick branes and the fermion (quasi-)localization

Lett. \textbf{88}, 141602 (2002)], we investigate the effects of temperature on flat, de Sitter (dS), and anti-de Sitter (AdS) thick branes in five-dimensional (5D) warped spacetime, and on the fermion (quasi-)localization. First, in the case of flat brane, when the critical temperature reaches, the solution of the background scalar field and the warp factor is not unique. So the thickness of the flat thick brane is uncertain at the critical value of the temperature parameter, which is found to be lower than the one in flat 5D spacetime. The mass spectra of the fermion Kaluza-Klein (KK) modes are continuous, and there is a series of fermion resonances. The number and lifetime of the resonances are finite and increase with the temperature parameter, but the mass of the resonances decreases with the temperature parameter. Second, in the case of dS brane, we do not find such a critical value of the temperature parameter. The mass spectra of the fermion KK modes are also continuous, and there is a series of fermion resonances. The effects of temperature on resonance number, lifetime, and mass are the same with the case of flat brane. Last, in the case of AdS brane, {the critical value of the temperature parameter can less or greater than the one in the flat 5D spacetime.} The spectra of fermion KK modes are discrete, and the mass of fermion KK modes does not decrease monotonically with increasing temperature parameter.

Fermion Resonances on a Thick Brane with a Piecewise Warp Factor

In this paper, we mainly investigate the problems of resonances of massive KK fermions on a single scalar constructed thick brane with a piecewise warp factor matching smoothly. The distance between two boundaries and the other parameters are determined by one free parameter through three junction conditions. For the generalized Yukawa coupling $η\barΨϕ^{k}Ψ$ with odd $k=1,3,5,...$, the mass eigenvalue $m$, width $Γ$, lifetime $τ$, and maximal probability $P_{max}$ of fermion resonances are obtained. Our numerical calculations show that the brane without internal structure also favors the appearance of resonant states for both left- and right-handed fermions. The scalar-fermion coupling and the thickness of the brane influence the resonant behaviors of the massive KK fermions.

Holographic Josephson Junction in 3+1 dimensions

In arXiv:1101.3326[hep-th], a (2+1)-dimensional holographic Josephson junction was constructed, and it was shown that the DC Josephson current is proportional to the sine of the phase difference across the junction. In this paper, we extend this study to a holographic description for the (3+1)-dimensional holographic DC Josephson junction. By solving numerically the coupled differential equations, we also obtain the familiar characteristics of Josephson junctions.

In this work we generalized holographic model for s-wave DC Josephson junction constructed in arXiv:1101.3326[hep-th] to a holographic description for p-wave Josephson junction. By solving numerically the coupled equations of motion of Yang-Mills theory for a non-Abelian SU(2) gauge fields in (3+1)-dimensional AdS spacetimes, we shown that DC current of the p-wave Josephson junction is proportional to the sine of the phase difference across the junction like the s-wave case.

MINOS Anomaly as A Signal of Lorentz Violation

Recently, the MINOS collaboration reported an anomaly that the mass-squared difference and mixing angle of $\barν_μ$ $\leftrightarrow$ $\barν_τ$ are both different from that of $ν_μ$ $\leftrightarrow$ $ν_τ$. In this paper, based on the framework of neutrino oscillations, terms that break the Lorentz symmetry are used as perturbation to explain this anomaly and satisfactory results are got. Remarkably, some surprising conclusions, one of which is that in the high energy limit (hundreds of GeV) neutrino oscillation pattern will be independent of energy, are also arrived.

Realizing Tri-bimaximal Mixing in Minimal Seesaw Model with S4 Family Symmetry

In this paper, we realize the tri-bimaximal mixing in the lepton sector in the context of minimal seesaw in which only two right-handed neutrinos are introduced, with the discrete group $S4$ as the family symmetry. In order to constrain the form of superpotential, a $Z3$ symmetry is also introduced. In the model, the mass matrices for charged leptons and right-handed neutrinos are diagonal. The unitary matrix that diagonalizes the light Majorana neutrino mass matrix is exact tri-bimaximal at LO, and is corrected by small quantities of $\mathcal{O}(0.01)$ at NLO. The mechanism to get the particular scalar VEV alignments used is also presented. Phenomenologically, the mass spectrum is of normal hierarchy with $m_1=0$, and $\sum m_i$ and $|m_{ee}|$ are about $0.058 eV$ and $0.003 eV$ respectively.

Bulk Matters on a GRS-Inspired Braneworld

In this paper we investigate the localization and mass spectra of bulk matter fields on a Gergory-Rubakov-Sibiryakov-inspired braneworld. In this braneworld model, there are one thick brane located at the origin of the extra dimension and two thin branes at two sides. For spin 1/2 fermions coupled with the background scalar $ϕ$ via $η\barΨϕ^pΨ$ with $p$ a positive odd integer, the zero mode of left-hand fermions can be localized on the thick brane for finite distance of the two thin branes, and there exist some massive bound modes and resonance modes. The resonances correspond to the quasi-localized massive fermions. For free massless spin 0 scalars, the zero mode can not be localized on the thick brane when the two thin branes are located finitely. While for a massive scalar $Φ$ coupled with itself and the background scalar field $ϕ$, in order to get a localized zero mode on the thick brane, a fine-tuning relation should be introduced. Some massive bound modes and resonances also will appear. For spin 1 vectors, there is no bound KK mode because the effective potential felt by vectors vanishes outside the two thin branes. We also investigate the physics when the distance of the two thin branes tends to infinity.

Effects of the variation of mass on fermion localization and resonances on thick branes

A few years ago, Campos investigated the critical phenomena of thick branes in warped spacetimes [Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 88} (2002) 141602]. Inspired by his work, we consider a toy model of thick branes generated by a real scalar field with the potential $V(ϕ)=aϕ^2-bϕ^4+cϕ^6$, and investigate the variation of the mass parameter $a$ on the branes as well as the localization and resonances of fermions. An interesting result is found: there is a critical value for the mass parameter $a$, and when the critical value of $a$ is reached the solution of the background scalar field is not unique and has the shape of a double kink. This happens in both cases with and without gravity. It is also shown that the numbers of the bound Kaluza-Klein modes of fermions on the gravity-free brane and the resonant states of fermions on the brane with gravity increase with the value of $a$.

Fermion localization on asymmetric two-field thick branes

In this paper we investigate the localization of fermions on asymmetric thick branes generated by two scalars $ϕ$ and $χ$. In order to trap fermions on the asymmetric branes with kink-like warp factors, the couplings with the background scalars $η\barΨF(χ,ϕ)Ψ$ are introduced, where $F(χ,ϕ)$ is a function of $ϕ$ and $χ$. We find that the coupling $η\barΨχϕΨ$ do not support the localization of 4-dimensional fermions on the branes. While, for the case $η\barΨχΨ+η'\barΨϕΨ$, which is the kink-fermion coupling corresponding to one-scalar-generated brane scenarios, the zero mode of left-handed fermions could be trapped on the branes under some conditions.
