Proca stars and their frozen states in an infinite tower of higher-derivative gravity

In this work, we investigate the five-dimensional Proca star under gravity with the infinite tower of higher curvature corrections. We find that when the coupling constant exceeds a critical value, solutions with a frequency approaching zero appear. In the finite-order corrections case $n=2$ (Gauss-Bonnet gravity), the matter field and energy density diverge near the origin as $ω\to 0$. In contrast, for $n\geq 3$, the divergence is efficiently suppressed, both the field and the energy density remain finite everywhere, and both the matter field and energy density remain finite everywhere. In the limit $ω\to 0$, a class of horizonless frozen star solutions emerges, which are referred to ``frozen stars". Importantly, frozen stars contain neither curvature singularities nor event horizons. These frozen stars develop a critical horizon at a finite radius $r_c$, where $-g_{tt}$ and $1/g_{rr}$ approach zero. The frozen star is indistinguishable from that of an extremal black hole outside $r_c$, and its compactness can reach the extremal black hole value.

Comment on ''Traversable Wormholes in General Relativity''

In the letter titled ''Traversable Wormholes in General Relativity'' [Phys. Rev. Lett. 128, 091104 (2022)], R. A. Konoplya and A. Zhidenko have constructed an asymmetric wormhole solution, which is not symmetric about the throat and is compounded from smooth gravitational and charged Dirac fields. However, the authors have claimed that a physically relevant condition on the throat is imposed to lead to no gravitational force experienced by a stationary observer at the throat. In this comment, we point out that the above condition is unnecessary.

Dark Information in Black Hole with $λφ$ Fluid

It has been shown that the nonthermal spectrum of Hawking radiation will lead to information-carrying correlations between emitted particles in the radiation. The mutual information carried by such correlations can not be locally observed and hence is dark. With dark information, the black hole information is conserved. In this paper, we look for the spherically symmetric black hole solution in a $λφ$ fluid model and investigate the radiation spectrum and dark information of the black hole. The spacetime structure of this black hole is similar to that of the Schwarzschild one, while its horizon radius is decreased by the $λφ$ fluid. By using the statistical mechanical method, the nonthermal radiation spectrum is calculated. This radiation spectrum is very different from the Schwarzschild case at its last stage because of the effect of the $λφ$ fluid. The $λφ$ fluid reduces the lifetime of the black hole, but increases the dark information of the Hawking radiation.

Dynamic properties of thermodynamic phase transition for five-dimensional neutral Gauss-Bonnet AdS black hole on free energy landscape

Understanding the dynamic process of the thermodynamic phase transition can provide the deep insight into the black hole microscopic properties and structures. We in this paper study the dynamic properties of the stable small-large black hole phase transition for the five-dimensional neutral Gauss-Bonnet AdS black hole. Firstly, by using the first law of black holes, we prove that the extremal points of the free energy on the landscape denote the real black hole solutions satisfying the field equations. The local maximal and minimal points correspond to local unstable and stable black hole states, respectively. Especially, on the free energy landscape, the wells of the coexistence small and large black holes have the same depth. Then we investigate the probability evolution governed by the Fokker-Planck equation. Due to the thermal fluctuation, we find that the small (large) black hole state can transit to the large (small) black hole state. Furthermore, the first passage time is calculated. For each temperature, a single peak is presented, which suggests that there is a considerable fraction of the first passage events taking place at short time. And the higher the temperature is, the faster decrease of the probability is. These results will uncover some intriguing dynamic properties of the stable small-large black hole phase transition in modified gravity.

Dynamics of scalar hair with self-interactions around a Schwarzchild black hole

In this paper, we study the dynamics of scalar hair around a Schwarzchild black hole. The scalar hair is sourced by the Gauss-Bonnet invariant with a linear coupling. We work perturbatively in the coupling constant and ignore the back-reaction of the scalar hair and the Gauss-Bonnet invariant. We evolve the scalar field in the background of a Schwarzchild black hole and study the dynamical formation of scalar hair with different self-interactions. We integrate the energy and compute the energy flux of the scalar hair in terms of the canonical energy-momentum tensor and give the corresponding dependence on the self-interactions. Our results allow us to estimate the radiation and the condensation of scalar field with different self-interactions, these would improve our understanding for the dynamical scalarization of black holes and the possible configuration of the scalar hair in scalar Gauss-Bonnet gravity.

Equatorial orbits of spinning test particle in rotating boson star

In this paper, we study the circular orbit of the spinning test particle in the background of a rotating boson star. Using the pole-dipole approximation and neglecting the back-reaction of the spinning test particle on the spacetime, the equation of motion of the spinning test particle is described by the Mathisson-Papapetrou-Dixon equation. We solve this equation under the Tulczyjew spin-supplementary condition and obtain the four-momentum and four-velocity of the spinning test particle. Quite different from the spinless particle, the effective potential of the spinning particle with zero orbital angular momentum goes to infinite at the center of the rotating boson star. This will lead to the fact that the spinning particle can not pass through the center of the boson star. However, when the spin angular momentum and orbital angular momentum satisfy $2\bar{s}+\bar{l}=0$, the effective potential is not divergent anymore and the spinning particle can pass through the center of the rotating boson star. {We still investigate how the spin affects the structure of the circular orbits and we find that the spin will induce the larger or smaller regions of no circular orbits, unstable circular orbits, and stable circular orbits.} Moreover, the radius and energy of the circular orbit will be decreased or increased by the particle spin. These results will have an important application in testing the gravitational waves in the boson star background.

Observing dynamic oscillatory behavior of triple points among black hole thermodynamic phase transitions

Understanding the dynamic process of black hole thermodynamic phase transitions at a triple point is a huge challenge. In this letter, we carry out the first investigation of dynamical phase behaviour at a black hole triple point. By numerically solving the Smoluchowski equation near the triple point for a six-dimensional charged Gauss-Bonnet anti-de Sitter black hole, we find that initial small, intermediate, or large black holes can transit to the other two coexistent phases at the triple point, indicating that thermodynamic phase transitions can indeed occur dynamically. More significantly, we observe characteristic weak and strong oscillatory behaviour in this dynamic process, which can be understood from an investigation of the rate of first passage from one phase to another. Our results further an understanding of the dynamic process of black hole thermodynamic phase transitions.

Spontaneously translational symmetry breaking in the excited states of holographic superconductor

We revisit HHH model in [Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 101}, 031601 (2008)] and extend the ansatz of matter fields to being of depending on a spatial dimension except the holographic direction. Despite homogeneous solutions of ground and excited states, especially for the excited states, there also exists solutions where the translational invariance is broken. It is worth mentioning that no periodic sources are assigned to the matter fields, so the translational symmetry is broken spontaneously. We investigate how the new solutions and the condensates of excited states develop with the change of temperature. Moreover, since this kind of condensate will decrease at certain temperature and eventually vanish at sufficiently low temperature, we also study the relation between this interval and length of lattice. Besides, we compare the free energies of non-translational invariant solutions and those of translational invariance in the HHH model, and find that the free energies of the former situations are lower.

Collision of two kinks with inner structure

In this work, we study kink collisions in a scalar field model with scalar-kinetic coupling. This model supports kink/antikink solutions with inner structure in the energy density. The collision of two such kinks is simulated by using the Fourier spectral method. We numerically calculate how the critical velocity and the widths of the first three two bounce windows vary with the model parameters. After that, we report some interesting collision results including two-bion escape final states, kink-bion-antikink intermediate states and kink or antikink intertwined final states. These results show that kinks with inner structure in the energy density have similar properties as those of the double kinks.

Excited states of holographic superconductors

In this paper we re-investigate the model of the anti-de Sitter gravity coupled to Maxwell and charged scalar fields, which has been studied as the gravitational dual to a superconductor for a long time since the famous work [Phys.\ Rev.\ Lett.\ {\bf 101}, 031601 (2008)]. By numerical method, we present a novel family of solutions of holographical superconductor with excited states, and find there exists a lower critical temperature in the corresponding excited state. Moreover, we study the condensate and conductivity in the excited states. It is very interesting that the conductivity $σ$ of each excited state has an additional pole in $\text{Im}[σ]$ and a delta function in $\text{Re}[σ]$ arising at the low temperature inside the gap, which is just the evidence of the existence of excited states.

Holographic flows with scalar self-interaction toward the Kasner universe

Considering a thermal state of the dual CFT with a uniform deformation by a scalar operator, we study a holographic renormalization group flow at nonzero temperature in the bulk described by the Einstein-scalar field theory with the self-interaction term $λϕ^4$ in asymptotic anti-de Sitter spacetime. We show that the holographic flow with the self-interaction term could run smoothly through the event horizon of a black hole and deform the Schwarzschild singularity to a Kasner universe at late times. Furthermore, we also study the effect of the scalar self-interaction on the deformed near-singularity Kasner exponents and the relationship between entanglement velocity and Kasner singularity exponents at late times.

Rotating multistate boson stars

In this paper, we construct rotating boson stars composed of the coexisting states of two scalar fields, including the ground and first excited states. We show the coexisting phase with both the ground and first excited states for rotating multistate boson stars. In contrast to the solutions of the nodeless boson stars, the rotating boson stars with two states have two types of nodes, including the $^1S^2S$ state and the $^1S^2P$ state. Moreover, we explore the properties of the mass $M$ of rotating boson stars with two states as a function of the synchronized frequency $ω$, as well as the nonsynchronized frequency $ω_2$. Finally, we also study the dependence of the mass $M$ of rotating boson stars with two states on angular momentum for both the synchronized frequency $ω$ and the nonsynchronized frequency $ω_2$.

Deforming charged black holes with dipolar differential rotation boundary

Motivated by the recent studies of the novel asymptotically global AdS$_4$ black hole with deforming horizon, we consider the action of Einstein-Maxwell gravity in AdS spacetime and construct the charged deforming AdS black holes with differential boundary. In contrast to deforming black hole without charge, there exists at least one value of horizon for an arbitrary temperature. The extremum of temperature is determined by charge $q$ and divides the range of temperature into several parts. Moreover, we use an isometric embedding in the three-dimensional space to investigate the horizon geometry. We also study the entropy and quasinormal modes of deforming charged AdS black hole. It is interesting to find there exist two families of black hole solutions with different horizon radius for a fixed temperature, but these two black holes have same horizon geometry and entropy. Due to the existence of charge $q$, the phase diagram of entropy is more complicated.

Weak cosmic censorship in Born-Infeld electrodynamics and bound on charge-to-mass ratio

We construct a class of counterexamples to cosmic censorship in four dimensional Einstein-Born-Infeld theory with asymptotically anti-de Sitter boundary conditions, and investigate the effect of the Born-Infeld parameter $b$ in comparison with the counterpart of Einstein-Maxwell theory. When a charged massive scalar field is included into the action, we find that this class of counterexamples to cosmic censorship would be removed if the charge of scalar fields is above the minimum value of charge $q_{min}$. In particular, the minimum value of charge required to preserve cosmic censorship increases with the increasing of Born-Infeld parameter. Meanwhile, we also show the lower bounds on charge-to-mass ratio with the different values of Born-Infeld parameter.

Holographic s-wave and p-wave Josephson junction with backreaction

In this paper, we study the holographic models of s-wave and p-wave Josephoson junction away from probe limit in (3+1)-dimensional spacetime, respectively. With the backreaction of the matter, we obtained the anisotropic black hole solution with the condensation of matter fields. We observe that the critical temperature of Josephoson junction decreases with increasing backreaction. In addition to this, the tunneling current and condenstion of Josephoson junction become smaller as backreaction grows larger, but the relationship between current and phase difference still holds for sine function. Moreover, condenstion of Josephoson junction deceases with increasing width of junction exponentially.

Holographic model of hybrid and coexisting s-wave and p-wave Josephson junction

In this paper the holographic model for hybrid and coexisting s-wave and p-wave Josephson junction is constructed by a triplet charged scalar field coupled with a non-Abelian $SU(2)$ gauge fields in (3+1)-dimensional AdS spacetime. Depending on the value of chemical potential $μ$, one can show that there are four types of junctions (s+p-N-s+p, s+p-N-s, s+p-N-p and s-N-p). We show that DC current of all the hybrid and coexisting s-wave and p-wave junctions is proportional to the sine of the phase difference across the junction. In addition, the maximum current and the total condensation decays with the width of junction exponentially, respectively. For s+p-N-s and s-N-p junction, the maximum current decreases with growing temperature. Moreover, we find that the maximum current increases with growing temperature for s+p-N-s+p and s+p-N-p junction, which is in the different manner as the behaviour of s+p-N-s and s-N-p junction.

Competition between s-wave order and d-wave order in holographic superconductors

We study competition between s-wave order and d-wave order through two holographic superconductor models. We find that once the coexisting phase appears, it is always thermodynamically favored, and that the coexistence phase is narrow and one condensate tends to kill the other. The phase diagram is constructed for each model in terms of temperature and the ratio of charges of two orders. We further compare the behaviors of some thermodynamic quantities, and discuss the different aspects and identical ones between two models.

Non-relativistic Josephson Junction from Holography

We construct a Josephson junction in non-relativistic case with a Lifshitz geometry as the dual gravity. We investigate the effect of the Lifshitz scaling in comparison with its relativistic counterpart. The standard sinusoidal relation between the current and the phase difference is found for various Lifshitz scalings characterised by the dynamical critical exponent. We also find the exponential decreasing relation between the condensate of the scalar operator within the barrier at zero current and the width of the weak link, as well as the relation between the critical current and the width. Nevertheless, the coherence lengths obtained from two exponential decreasing relations generically have discrepancies for non-relativistic dual.

A holographic model of SQUID

We construct a holographic model of superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) in the Einstein-Maxwell-complex scalar theory with a negative cosmological constant. The SQUID ring consists of two Josephson junctions which sit on two sides of a compactified spatial direction of a Schwarzschild-AdS black brane. These two junctions interfere with each other and then result in a total current depending on the magnetic flux, which can be deduced from the phase differences of the two Josephson junctions. The relation between the total current and the magnetic flux is obtained numerically.

Brane worlds in critical gravity

Recently, Lu and Pope proposed critical gravities in [Phys. Rev. Lett. 106, 181302 (2011)]. In this paper we construct analytic brane solutions in critical gravity with matter. The Gibbons-Hawking surface term and junction condition are investigated, and the thin and thick brane solutions are obtained. All these branes are embedded in five-dimensional anti-de Sitter spacetimes. Our solutions are stable against scalar perturbations, and the zero modes of scalar perturbations cannot be localized on the branes.

Competition and Coexistence of Order Parameters in Holographic Multi-Band Superconductors

We construct a holographic multi-band superconductor model with each complex scalar field in the bulk minimally coupled to a same gauge field. Taking into account the back reaction of matter fields on the background geometry and focusing on the two band case with two scalar order parameters, we find that depending on the strength of the back reaction and the charge ratio of the two bulk scalars, five different superconducting phases exist, and three of five phases exhibit some region where both orders coexist and are thermodynamically favored. The other two superconducting phases have only one scalar order. The model exhibits rich phase structure and we construct the full diagram for the five superconducting phases. Our analysis indicates that the equivalent attractive interaction mediated by gravity between the two order parameters tends to make the coexistence of two orders much more easy rather than more difficult.

Half-filled Kondo lattice on the honeycomb lattice

The unique linear density of state around the Dirac points for the honeycomb lattice brings much novel features in strongly correlated models. Here we study the ground-state phase diagram of the Kondo lattice model on the honeycomb lattice at half-filling by using an extended mean-field theory. By treating magnetic interaction and Kondo screening on an equal footing, it is found that besides a trivial discontinuous first-order quantum phase transition between well-defined Kondo insulator and antiferromagnetic insulating state, there can exist a wide coexistence region with both Kondo screening and antiferromagnetic orders in the intermediate coupling regime. In addition, the stability of Kondo insulator requires a minimum strength of the Kondo coupling. These features are attributed to the linear density of state, which are absent in the square lattice. Furthermore, fluctuation effect beyond the mean-field decoupling is analyzed and the corresponding antiferromagnetic spin-density-wave transition falls into the O(3) universal class. Comparatively, we also discuss the Kondo necklace and the Kane-Mele-Kondo (KMK) lattice models on the same lattice. Interestingly, it is found that the topological insulating state is unstable to the usual antiferromagnetic ordered states at half-filling for the KMK model. The present work may be helpful for further studies on the interplay between conduction electrons and the densely localized spins on the honeycomb lattice.

Linear growth of entanglement entropy in holographic thermalization captured by horizon interiors and mutual information

We study the holographic entanglement entropy in a homogeneous falling shell background, which is dual to the strongly coupled field theory following a global quench. For d=2 conformal field theories, it is known that the entropy has a linear growth regime if the scale of the entangling region is large. In addition, the growth rate approaches a constant when the scale increases. We demonstrate analytically that this behavior is directly related to the part of minimal area surface probing the interior of apparent horizons in the bulk, as well as the mutual information between two disjoint rectangular subsystems in the boundary. Furthermore, we show numerically that all the results are universal for the d=3 conformal field theory, the non-relativistic scale-invariant theory and the dual theory of Gauss-Bonnet gravity.

Topological antiferromagnetic spin-density-wave phase in an extended Kondo lattice model

By using an extended mean-field theory, we study the phase diagram of the topological Kondo lattice model on the honeycomb lattice at half-filling in which the conduction electrons are described by the Haldane model. Besides the well-defined Kondo insulator and normal antiferromagnetic spin-density-wave (N-SDW) state, it is found that a nontrivial topological antiferromagnetic SDW state (T-SDW) with a quantized Hall conductance is possible if the quasiparticle gap is dominated by the next-nearest-neighbor hopping rather than the antiferromagnetic order. By analyzing the low-energy effective Chern-Simon action and the corresponding chiral edge state, the T-SDW could be considered as a quantum anomalous Hall insulator with antiferromagnetic long-range order. This state is apparently beyond Landau-Ginzburg paradigm, which can be attributed to the interplay of quantum anomalous Hall effect and the subtle antiferromagnetic order in the Kondo-lattice-like model. While the transition between the SDW states and the Kondo insulator is found to be conventional (a first order transition), the transition between the N- and T-SDWs is, however, a topological quantum phase transition. Interestingly, such topological quantum phase transition can be described by Dirac fermions coupled to a U (1)Chern-Simon gauge field, which resembles the critical theory between bosonic integer quantum Hall phases and superfluid phase and also indicates that such a topological quantum phase transition may fall into the 3D-XY universal class. It is expected that the present work may shed light on the interplay between conduction electrons and the densely localized spins on the honeycomb lattice.

Alternative Kondo breakdown mechanism: Orbital-selective orthogonal metal transition

In a recent paper of Nandkishore and Senthil [arxiv:1201.5998 (2012)], a concept of orthogonal metal has been introduced to reinterpret the disordered state of slave-spin representation in the Hubbard model as an exotic gapped metallic state. We extend this concept to study the corresponding quantum phase transition in the extended Anderson lattice model. It is found that the disordered state of slave spins in this model is an orbital-selective orthogonal metal, a generalization of the concept of the orthogonal metal in the Hubbard model. Near the quantum critical point the essential behaviors are dominated by a z = 3 critical mode, which is in contrast to the naive expectation in the Hubbard model. The result provides alternative Kondo breakdown mechanism for heavy fermion compounds underlying the physics of the orbital-selective orthogonal metal in the disordered state, which is different from the conventional Kondo breakdown mechanism with the fractionalized Fermi liquid picture. This work is expected to be useful in understanding the quantum criticality happening in some heavy fermion materials and other related strongly correlated systems.

Correlated metallic state in honeycomb lattice: Orthogonal Dirac semimetal

A novel gapped metallic state coined orthogonal Dirac semimetal is proposed in the honeycomb lattice in terms of $Z_{2}$ slave-spin representation of Hubbard model. This state corresponds to the disordered phase of slave-spin and has the same thermaldynamical and transport properties as usual Dirac semimetal but its singe-particle excitation is gapped and has nontrivial topological order due to the $Z_{2}$ gauge structure. The quantum phase transition from this orthogonal Dirac semimetal to usual Dirac semimetal is described by a mean-field decoupling with complementary fluctuation analysis and its criticality falls into the universality class of 2+1D Ising model while a large anomalous dimension for the physical electron is found at quantum critical point (QCP), which could be considered as a fingerprint of our fractionalized theory when compared to other non-fractionalized approaches. As byproducts, a path integral formalism for the $Z_{2}$ slave-spin representation of Hubbard model is constructed and possible relations to other approaches and the sublattice pairing states, which has been argued to be a promising candidate for gapped spin liquid state found in the numerical simulation, are briefly discussed. Additionally, when spin-orbit coupling is considered, the instability of orthogonal Dirac semimetal to the fractionalized quantum spin Hall insulator (fractionalized topological insulator) is also expected. We hope the present work may be helpful for future studies in $Z_{2}$ slave-spin theory and related non-Fermi liquid phases in honeycomb lattice.

Emergence of Cosmic Space and the Generalized Holographic Equipartition

Recently, a novel idea about our expanding Universe was proposed by T. Padmanabhan [arXiv:1206.4916]. He suggested that the expansion of our Universe can be thought of as the emergence of space as cosmic time progresses. The emergence is governed by the basic relation that the increase rate of Hubble volume is linearly determined by the difference between the number of degrees of freedom on the horizon surface and the one in the bulk. In this paper, following this idea, we generalize the basic relation to derive the Friedmann equations of an $(n+1)$-dimensional Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe corresponding to general relativity, Gauss-Bonnet gravity, and Lovelock gravity.

We also study the dependence of the maximal current on the dimension of the condensate operator and on the width of the junction, and obtain expected results.

Thermodynamic Geometry of black hole in the deformed Horava-Lifshitz gravity

We investigate the thermodynamic geometry and phase transition of Kehagias-Sfetsos black hole in the deformed Horava-Lifshitz gravity with coupling constant $λ=1$. The phase transition in black hole thermodynamics is thought to be associated with the divergence of the capacities. And the structures of these divergent points are studied. We also find that the thermodynamic curvature produced by the Ruppeiner metric is positive definite for all $r_+ > r_-$ and is divergence at $η_2=0$ corresponded to the divergent points of $C_Φ$ and $C_T$. These results suggest that the microstructure of the black hole has an effective repulsive interaction, which is very similar to the ideal gas of fermions. These may shine some light on the microstructure of the black hole.

Two-dimensional confinement of critical U(1) gauge field in the presence of Fermi surface

The compact U(1) gauge field occurs in many fractionalized descriptions of low dimensional quantum magnetism and heavy fermion systems. In this respect a fundamental question about the gauge field is whether it is confined or not in the presence of Fermi surface. In this paper we show that the U(1) gauge field with a possible positive anomalous dimension in the presence of Fermi surface has to be in the confined state, although it is strongly coupled to abundant gapless fermionic excitations near the Fermi surface in two spatial dimensions. This means that some quantum spin liquids and/or fractionalized metallic states described in terms of this kind of gauge fields with positive anomalous dimensions are unstable to other possible symmetry-breaking states, as a result, they are not be appropriate candidates for ground states in related systems. The instability obtained shows some novel features of the quantum spin liquids and/or fractionalized metallic states in the presence of Fermi surface which have not been reported in the literature. The result could be useful for further study in the quantum spin liquids and many related slave-particle gauge theories in strongly correlated electron systems.

A note on Friedmann equation of FRW universe in deformed Horava-Lifshitz gravity from entropic force

With entropic interpretation of gravity proposed by Verlinde, we obtain the Friedmann equation of the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe for the deformed Hořava-Lifshitz gravity. It is shown that, when the parameter of Hořava-Lifshitz gravity $ω\rightarrow \infty$, the modified Friedmann equation will go back to the one in Einstein gravity. This results may imply that the entropic interpretation of gravity is effective for the deformed Hořava-Lifshitz gravity.

Lett. \textbf{88}, 141602 (2002)], we investigate the effects of temperature on flat, de Sitter (dS), and anti-de Sitter (AdS) thick branes in five-dimensional (5D) warped spacetime, and on the fermion (quasi-)localization. First, in the case of flat brane, when the critical temperature reaches, the solution of the background scalar field and the warp factor is not unique. So the thickness of the flat thick brane is uncertain at the critical value of the temperature parameter, which is found to be lower than the one in flat 5D spacetime. The mass spectra of the fermion Kaluza-Klein (KK) modes are continuous, and there is a series of fermion resonances. The number and lifetime of the resonances are finite and increase with the temperature parameter, but the mass of the resonances decreases with the temperature parameter. Second, in the case of dS brane, we do not find such a critical value of the temperature parameter. The mass spectra of the fermion KK modes are also continuous, and there is a series of fermion resonances. The effects of temperature on resonance number, lifetime, and mass are the same with the case of flat brane. Last, in the case of AdS brane, {the critical value of the temperature parameter can less or greater than the one in the flat 5D spacetime.} The spectra of fermion KK modes are discrete, and the mass of fermion KK modes does not decrease monotonically with increasing temperature parameter.

Holographic Josephson Junction in 3+1 dimensions

In arXiv:1101.3326[hep-th], a (2+1)-dimensional holographic Josephson junction was constructed, and it was shown that the DC Josephson current is proportional to the sine of the phase difference across the junction. A Note on Temperature and Energy of 4-dimensional Black Holes from Entropic Force

We investigate the temperature and energy on holographic screens for 4-dimensional black holes with the entropic force idea proposed by Verlinde. We find that the "Unruh-Verlinde temperature" is equal to the Hawking temperature on the horizon and can be considered as a generalized Hawking temperature on the holographic screen outside the horizons. The energy on the holographic screen is not the black hole mass $M$ but the reduced mass $M_0$, which is related to the black hole parameters. With the replacement of the black hole mass $M$ by the reduced mass $M_0$, the entropic force can be written as $F=\frac{GmM_0}{r^2}$, which could be tested by experiments.

Effects of the variation of mass on fermion localization and resonances on thick branes

A few years ago, Campos investigated the critical phenomena of thick branes in warped spacetimes [Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 88} (2002) 141602]. Inspired by his work, we consider a toy model of thick branes generated by a real scalar field with the potential $V(ϕ)=aϕ^2-bϕ^4+cϕ^6$, and investigate the variation of the mass parameter $a$ on the branes as well as the localization and resonances of fermions. An interesting result is found: there is a critical value for the mass parameter $a$, and when the critical value of $a$ is reached the solution of the background scalar field is not unique and has the shape of a double kink. This happens in both cases with and without gravity. It is also shown that the numbers of the bound Kaluza-Klein modes of fermions on the gravity-free brane and the resonant states of fermions on the brane with gravity increase with the value of $a$.

Hidden Conformal Symmetry of the Kerr-Newman Black Hole

We investigate the hidden conformal symmetry of the 4-dimensional non-extremal Kerr-Newman (KN) black hole with the idea of the near-region Kerr/CFT correspondence proposed by Castro, Maloney and Strominger in arXiv:1004.0996[hep-th]. The near-region KN black hole is dual to a 2D CFT with left and right temperatures $T_L=(2 M^2-Q^2)/(4πJ)$ and $T_R=\sqrt{M^4-J^2-M^2Q^2}/(2πJ)$. Furthermore, we reproduce the microscopic entropy of the KN black hole via the Cardy formula, which is in agreement with the macroscopic Bekenstein-Hawking entropy and precisely match the absorption cross section of a near-region scalar field in the KN black hole with the finite-temperature absorption cross section for a 2D CFT.

This relation contains work term contributed by `redshift work density', `pressure density' and `gravitational work density'. We illustrate it in RN black hole, Dilaton-Maxwell-Einstein black hole and Vaidya black hole. We argue that the co-moving observers are not physically related to Kodama observers in FRW universe unless in the vacuum case. We also find that a generalized differential form of first law is difficult to be well defined, and it would not give more information than the integral form.

Supersymmetric black rings and non-linear sigma models

In this paper we investigate the non-linear sigma model arising in the reduction of D = 5 supergravity to D = 3, and present the application of this sigma model to supersymmetric black ring solutions in five-dimensional minimal supergravity. With the ansatz of stationary solutions with $R \times U(1)\times U(1)$ isometry, we obtain a two-dimensional Lagrangian corresponding to geodesic motion of a string-like object on the coset $G_{2(+2)}/SO(4)$, and study the algebra of conserved charges and supersymmetry constraints of supersymmetric black rings. We also obtain the semi-classical wave function of supersymmetric black rings.

First-order attractor flow equations for supersymmetric black rings in N=2, D=5 supergravity

In this paper we investigate the attractor mechanism in the five dimensional low energy supergravity theory corresponding to M-theory compactified on a Calabi-Yau threefold $CY_3$. Using very special geometry, we derive the general first-order attractor flow equations for BPS and non-BPS solutions in five-dimensional Gibbons-Hawking spaces. Especially, considering the supersymmetric solution, we obtain the first-order flow equations for supersymmetric (multi)black rings. We also solve the flow equations and discuss some properties of the solutions of flow equations.

Fermionic zero modes in gauge and gravity backgrounds On $T^2$

In this note we study fermionic zero modes in gauge and gravity backgrounds taking a two dimensional compact manifold $T^2$ as extra dimensions. The result is that there exist massless Dirac fermions which have normalizable zero modes under quite general assumptions about these backgrounds on the bulk. Several special cases of gauge background on the torus are discussed and some simple fermionic zero modes are obtained.

Fermionic zero modes in self-dual vortex background

We study fermionic zero modes in the background of self-dual vortex on a two-dimensional non-compact extra space in 5+1 dimensions. In the Abelian Higgs model, we present an unified description of the topological and non-topological self-dual vortex on the extra two dimensions. Based on it, we study localization of bulk fermions on a brane with inclusion of Yang-Mills and gravity backgrounds in six dimensions. Through two simple cases, it is shown that the vortex background contributes a phase shift to the fermionic zero mode, this phase is actually origin from the Aharonov-Bohm effect.
