$D^+D^-$ hadronic atom and its production in $pp$ and $p\bar{p}$ collisions

There must be Coulomb bound states of a pair of hadrons, which are stable against the strong interaction, with opposite electric charges. Such bound states are hadronic atoms. We study the properties and the production of the ground-state $D^+D^-$ hadronic atom $A_{D^+D^-}$, called dionium, with quantum numbers $J^{PC}=0^{++}$. Using a nonrelativistic effective field theory for the $D^0\bar{D}^0$-$D^+D^-$ coupled-channel system, the mass of the ground-state dionium is predicted to be $(3739.3 \pm 0.1)~\text{MeV}$, with the binding energy reduced by about 10% compared to the Coulomb binding energy due to the strong interaction. Its width for the decay into the neutral $D^0\bar D^0$ channel is predicted to be $1.8^{+1.4}_{-0.6}$ keV using lattice inputs for the $D\bar D$ strong interaction. The cross section for the inclusive prompt production of the dionium at CMS and LHCb and that for the direct production $p\bar p\to A_{D^+D^-}$ at PANDA are estimated at an order-of-magnitude level. In particular, we expect that $\mathcal{O}(10^3\sim 10^5)$ events of the reaction chain $p\bar p\to A_{D^+D^-}\to D^0\bar D^0 \to K^-π^+K^+π^-$ can be collected at PANDA, and valuable information on the charmed meson interaction and on understanding charmoniumlike states will be obtained.

Data-based analysis of Forward-Backward Asymmetry in $B^\pm \to K^\pm K^\mp K^\pm$

An analysis of the Forward-Backward Asymmetry (FBA) in the decay $B^\pm \to K^\pm K^\mp K^\pm$ is carried out based on the LHCb data. It is found that the large FBA observed for the invariant mass of the $K^+ K^-$ pair around 1.5 GeV can be explained by the interference of the amplitudes between the resonances with even and odd spins, where the former can be the spin-0 $f_0(1500)$ resonance plus a non-resonance $s$-wave, while the latter is a spin-1 resonance which is probably $ρ^0 (1450)$. The analysis shows the existence of the decay channel $B^\pm\to ρ^0(1450) K^\pm$, with $C\!P$ asymmetry of $A_{CP}(B^\pm\to ρ^0(1450) K^\pm)=(-3.4\pm3.0)\%$. This is in contradiction with the conclusion of BaBar in Phys. Rev. D 85, 112010, according to which the analysis showed no signal of the spin-1 resonance $ρ^0(1450)$. We suggest our experimental colleagues to perform a closer analysis to this channel. We also suggest to perform the measurements of the FBAs (as well as the FB-$C\!P$As) in other three-body decay channels of beauty and charmed mesons, as it is helpful for resonance analysis.

Improved phenomenological nuclear charge radius formulae with kernel ridge regression

The kernel ridge regression (KRR) method with Gaussian kernel is used to improve the description of the nuclear charge radius by several phenomenological formulae. The widely used $A^{1/3}$, $N^{1/3}$ and $Z^{1/3}$ formulae, and their improved versions by considering the isospin dependence are adopted as examples. The parameters in these six formulae are refitted using the Levenberg-Marquardt method, which give better results than the previous ones. The radius for each nucleus is predicted with the KRR network, which is trained with the deviations between experimental and calculated nuclear charge radii. For each formula, the resultant root-mean-square deviations of 884 nuclei with proton number $Z \geq 8$ and neutron number $N \geq 8$ can be reduced to about 0.017~fm after considering the modification of the KRR method. The extrapolation ability of the KRR method for the neutron-rich region is examined carefully and compared with the radial basis function method. It is found that the improved nuclear charge radius formulae by KRR method can avoid the risk of overfitting and have a good extrapolation ability. The influence of the ridge penalty term on the extrapolation ability of the KRR method is also discussed. At last, the nuclear charge radii of several recently observed K and Ca isotopes have been analyzed.

The impact of $a_0^0(980)-f_0(980)$ mixing on the localized $CP$ violations of the $B^-\rightarrow K^- π^+π^-$ decay

In the framework of the QCD factorization approach, we study the localized $CP$ violations of the $B^-\rightarrow K^- π^+π^-$ decay with and without $a_0^0(980)-f_0(980)$ mixing mechanism, respectively, and find that the localized $CP$ violation can be enhanced by this mixing effect when the mass of the $π^+π^-$ pair is in the vicinity of the $f_0(980)$ resonance. The corresponding theoretical prediction results are $\mathcal{A}_{CP}(B^-\rightarrow K f_0 \rightarrow K^-π^+π^-)=[0.24, 0.36]$ and $\mathcal{A}_{CP}(B^-\rightarrow K^- f_0(a_0) \rightarrow K^-π^+π^-)=[0.33, 0.52]$, respectively. Meanwhile, we also calculate the branching fraction of the $B^-\rightarrow K^-f_0(980)\rightarrow K^-π^+π^-$ decay, which is consistent with the experimental results. We suggest that $a_0^0(980)-f_0(980)$ mixing mechanism should be considered when studying the $CP$ violation of the $B$ or $D$ mesons decays theoretically and experimentally.

The pollution to the $Kπ$-puzzle from the isospin-breaking $π^0-η-η'$ mixing effect

The influence of the isospin-breaking $π^0\!\!-\!η\!-\!η'$ mixing effect on the $CP$-asymmetries of $B\to Kπ$ processes is examined for the first time. It is found that this mixing effect brings a large uncertainty both to the $CP$-asymmetry sum rule of $B\to Kπ$ processes and the $CP$-asymmetry difference of the $B^+\to K^+π^0$ and $B^0\to K^+π^-$, obscuring the significance of the $Kπ$-puzzle. This uncertainty can be so large that it is even possible to explain the $Kπ$-puzzle by the $π^0\!\!-\!η\!-\!η'$ mixing effect {\it alone}.

Rotational excitations in rare-earth nuclei: a comparative study within three cranking models with different mean fields and the treatments of pairing correlations

High-spin rotational bands in rare-earth Er ($Z=68$), Tm ($Z=69$) and Yb ($Z=70$) isotopes are investigated by three different nuclear models. These are (i) the cranked relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov (CRHB) approach with approximate particle number projection by means of the Lipkin-Nogami (LN) method, (ii) the cranking covariant density functional theory (CDFT) with pairing correlations treated by a shell-model-like approach (SLAP) or the so called particle-number conserving (PNC) method, and (iii) cranked shell model (CSM) based on the Nilsson potential with pairing correlations treated by the PNC method. A detailed comparison between these three models in the description of the ground state rotational bands of even-even Er and Yb isotopes is performed. The similarities and differences between these models in the description of the moments of inertia, the features of band crossings, equilibrium deformations and pairing energies of even-even nuclei under study are discussed. These quantities are considered as a function of rotational frequency and proton and neutron numbers. The changes in the properties of the first band crossings with increasing neutron number in this mass region are investigated. On average, a comparable accuracy of the description of available experimental data is achieved in these models. However, the differences between model predictions become larger above the first band crossings. Because of time-consuming nature of numerical calculations in the CDFT-based models, a systematic study of the rotational properties of both ground state and excited state bands in odd-mass Tm nuclei is carried out only by the PNC-SCM. With few exceptions, the rotational properties of experimental 1-quasiparticle and 3-quasiparticle bands in $^{165,167,169,171}$Tm are reproduced reasonably well.

High-$K$ multi-particle bands and pairing reduction in $^{254}$No

The multi-particle states and rotational properties of two-particle bands in $^{254}$No are investigated by the cranked shell model (CSM) with pairing correlations treated by a particle-number conserving (PNC) method. For the first time, the rotational bands on top of two-particle $K^π=3^+,8^-$ and $10^+$ states and the pairing reduction are studied theoretically in $^{254}$No. The experimental excitation energies and moments of inertia for the multi-particle state are reproduced well by the calculation. Better agreement with the data are achieved by including the high-order deformation $\varepsilon_{6}$ which leads to enlarged $Z=100$ and $N=152$ deformed shell gaps. The rise of the $J^{(1)}$ in these two-particle bands compared with the ground-state band is attributed to the pairing reduction due to the Pauli blocking effects.

Effects of proton angular momentum alignment on the two-shears-like mechanism in $^{101}$Pd

The recently observed possible antimagnetic rotation band in $^{101}$Pd is investigated by the cranked shell model with pairing correlations treated by a particle-number conserving method, in which the blocking effects are taken into account exactly. The experimental moments of inertia and reduced $B(E2)$ transition probabilities and their variations with the rotational frequency $ω$ are well reproduced. By analyzing the $ω$-dependence of the occupation probability of each cranked Nilsson orbital near the Fermi surface and the contributions of valence orbitals in each major shell to the total angular momentum alignment, the upbending mechanism of $νh_{11/2}$ in $^{101}$Pd is understood clearly. The proton angular momentum alignment and its influence on the two-shears-like mechanism are also discussed.

Investigation of the two-quasiparticle bands in the doubly-odd nucleus $^{166}$Ta using a particle-number conserving cranked shell model

The high-spin rotational properties of two-quasiparticle bands in the doubly-odd ${}^{166}$Ta are analyzed using the cranked shell model with pairing correlations treated by a particle-number conserving method, in which the blocking effects are taken into account exactly. The experimental moments of inertia and alignments and their variations with the rotational frequency $\hbarω$ are reproduced very well by the particle-number conserving calculations, which provides a reliable support to the configuration assignments in previous works for these bands. The backbendings in these two-quasiparticle bands are analyzed by the calculated occupation probabilities and the contributions of each orbital to the total angular momentum alignments. The moments of inertia and alignments for the Gallagher-Moszkowski partners of these observed two-quasiparticle rotational bands are also predicted.

Particle-number conserving analysis of the high-spin structure of $^{159}$Ho

The high-spin rotational bands in odd-$Z$ nuclei $^{159}$Ho ($Z=67$) are investigated using the cranked shell model with the pairing correlations treated by a particle-number conserving method, in which the blocking effects are taken into account exactly. The experimental moments of inertia and alignments and their variations with the rotational frequency $\hbarω$ are reproduced very well by the calculations. The splitting between the signature partners of the yrast band $7/2^-[523]$ is discussed and the splitting of the excited band $7/2^+[404]$ above $\hbarω\sim 0.30$~MeV is predicted due to the level crossing with $1/2^+[411]$. The calculated $B(E2)$ transition probabilities are also suggested for future experiments.

Localized direct CP violation in $B^\pm\rightarrow ρ^0 (ω)π^\pm\rightarrow π^+ π^-π^\pm$

We study the localized direct CP violation in the hadronic decays $B^\pm\rightarrow ρ^0 (ω)π^\pm\rightarrowπ^+ π^-π^\pm$, including the effect caused by an interesting mechanism involving the charge symmetry violating mixing between $ρ^0$ and $ω$. We calculate the localized integrated direct CP violation when the low invariant mass of $π^+π^-$ [$m(π^+π^-)_{low}$] is near $ρ^0(770)$. For five models of form factors investigated, we find that the localized integrated direct CP violation varies from -0.0170 to -0.0860 in the ranges of parameters in our model when $0.750<m(π^+π^-)_{low}<0.800$\,GeV. This result, especially the sign, agrees with the experimental data and is independent of form factor models. The new experimental data shows that the signs of the localized integrated CP asymmetries in the regions $0.470<m(π^+π^-)_{low}<0.770$\,GeV and $0.770<m(π^+π^-)_{low}<0.920$\,GeV are positive and negative, respectively. We find that $ρ$-$ω$ mixing makes the localized integrated CP asymmetry move towards the negative direction, and therefore contributes to the sign change in those two regions. This behavior is also model independent. We also calculate the localized integrated direct CP violating asymmetries in the regions $0.470<m(π^+π^-)_{low}<0.770$\,GeV and $0.770<m(π^+π^-)_{low}<0.920$\,GeV and find that they agree with the experimental data in some models of form factors.

Possible large $CP$ violation in three body decays of heavy baryon

We propose a new mechanism which can introduce large $CP$ asymmetries in the phase spaces of three-body decays of heavy baryons. In this mechanism, a large $CP$ asymmetry is induced by the interference of two intermediate resonances, which subsequently decay into two different combinations of final particles. We apply this mechanism to the decay channel $Λ_b^0 \to p π^0π^-$, and find that the differential $CP$ asymmetry can reach as large as $50\%$, while the regional $CP$ asymmetry can reach as large as $16\%$ in the interference region of the phase space.

Theoretical analysis of direct $CP$ violation and differential decay width in $D^\pm\to π^\pm π^+π^-$ in phase space around the resonances $ρ^0(770)$ and $f_0(500)$

We perform a theoretical study on direct $CP$ violation in $D^\pm\to π^\pm π^+π^-$ in phase space around the intermediate states $ρ^0(770)$ and $f_0(500)$. The possible interference between the amplitudes corresponding to the two resonances is taken into account, and the relative strong phase of the two amplitudes is treated as a free parameter. Our analysis shows that by properly chosen the strong phase, both the $CP$ violation strength and differential decay width accommodate to the experimental results.

Thermodynamics of pairing transition in hot nuclei

The pairing correlations in hot nuclei $^{162}$Dy are investigated in terms of the thermodynamical properties by covariant density functional theory. The heat capacities $C_V$ are evaluated in the canonical ensemble theory and the paring correlations are treated by a shell-model-like approach, in which the particle number is conserved exactly. A S-shaped heat capacity curve, which agrees qualitatively with the experimental data, has been obtained and analyzed in details. It is found that the one-pair-broken states play crucial roles in the appearance of the S shape of the heat capacity curve. Moreover, due to the effect of the particle-number conservation, the pairing gap varies smoothly with the temperature, which indicates a gradual transition from the superfluid to the normal state.

$CP$ violation for $B^{0}\rightarrow ρ^{0}(ω)ρ^{0}(ω) \rightarrow π^+π^-π^+π^-$ in QCD factorization

In the QCD factorization (QCDF) approach we study the direct $CP$ violation in $\bar{B}^{0}\rightarrowρ^0(ω)ρ^0(ω)\rightarrowπ^+π^-π^+π^-$ via the $ρ-ω$ mixing mechanism. We find that the $CP$ violation can be enhanced by double $ρ-ω$ mixing when the masses of the $π^+π^-$ pairs are in the vicinity of the $ω$ resonance, and the maximum $CP$ violation can reach 28{\%}. We also compare the results from the naive factorization and the QCD factorization.

CP violation in $B^{\pm} \rightarrow π^{\pm}π^{+}π^{-}$ in the region with low invariant mass of one $π^{+}π^{-}$ pair

Recently, the large CP asymmetries in $B^\pm\toπ^\pmπ^+π^-$ decays were found by the LHCb Collaboration to localize in the region $m_{π^+π^-}^2<0.4 \text{GeV}^2$. We find such large localized CP asymmetries may be due to the interference between a light scalar and $ρ^0(770)$ intermediate resonances. Consequently, we argue that the distribution of CP asymmetries in the Dalitz plots of three-body B decays could be very helpful for identifying the presence of the scalar resonance.

CP violation induced by the interference of scalar and vector resonances in three-body decays of bottom mesons

Large CP violation is an interesting phenomenon both theoretically and experimentally. Last year, LHCb Collaboration found in some three-body decays of bottom mesons that large CP violations appear in regions of the Dalitz plots that are not dominated by contributions from narrow resonances. In this paper, we present a mechanism which can induce such kind of large CP violations. In this mechanism, large localized CP asymmetries in phase space can be induced by the interference of two intermediate resonances with different spins. We also apply this mechanism to the decay channel $B^\pm\to K^\pm π^+π^-$.

Nuclear superfluidity for antimagnetic rotation in $^{105}$Cd and $^{106}$Cd

The effect of nuclear superfluidity on antimagnetic rotation bands in $^{105}$Cd and $^{106}$Cd are investigated by the cranked shell model with the pairing correlations and the blocking effects treated by a particle-number conserving method. The experimental moments of inertia and the reduced $B(E2)$ transition values are excellently reproduced. The nuclear superfluidity is essential to reproduce the experimental moments of inertia. The two-shears-like mechanism for the antimagnetic rotation is investigated by examining the shears angle, i.e., the closing of the two proton hole angular momenta, and its sensitive dependence on the nuclear superfluidity is revealed.

Production of charged $ρ$ meson in bottom hadron charmed decays and the effect of the finite width correction of the $ρ$ meson

We calculate the branching ratio of a bottom hadron decaying into a charmed hadron and a charged $ρ$ meson within the QCD factorization approach. We consider the effect of the finite width correction of the $ρ$ meson. Our numerical calculation shows an obvious correction because of this effect. We find that the finite width effect of the $ρ$ meson reduces the branching ratios by about 9% to 11% for bottom meson decay channels: $B^+\to\bar{D^0}ρ^+$, $B^0\to D^-ρ^+$, and $B^0_s\to D^-_sρ^+$, and increases the branching ratio by about 10% for $Λ_b^0\toΛ_c^+ρ^-$.

Rotation and alignment of high-$j$ orbitals in transfermium nuclei

The structure of nuclei with $Z\sim100$ is investigated systematically by the Cranked Shell Model (CSM) with pairing correlations treated by a Particle-Number Conserving (PNC) method. In the PNC method, the particle number is conserved and the Pauli blocking effects are taken into account exactly. By fitting the experimental single-particle spectra in these nuclei, a new set of Nilsson parameters ($κ$ and $μ$) is proposed. The experimental kinematic moments of inertia and the band-head energies are reproduced quite well by the PNC-CSM calculations. The band crossing, the effects of high-$j$ intruder orbitals and deformation are discussed in detail.

Rotational properties of the superheavy nucleus 256Rf and its neighboring even-even nuclei in particle-number conserving cranked shell model

The ground state band was recently observed in the superheavy nucleus 256Rf. We study the rotational properties of 256Rf and its neighboring even-even nuclei by using a cranked shell model (CSM) with the pairing correlations treated by a particle-number conserving (PNC) method in which the blocking effects are taken into account exactly. The kinematic and dynamic moments of inertia of the ground state bands in these nuclei are well reproduced by the theory. The spin of the lowest observed state in 256Rf is determined by comparing the experimental kinematic moments of inertia with the PNC-CSM calculations and agrees with previous spin assignment. The effects of the high order deformation varepsilon6 on the angular momentum alignments and dynamic moments of inertia in these nuclei are discussed.

Systematic investigation of the rotational bands in nuclei with $Z \approx 100$ using a particle-number conserving method based on a cranked shell model

By fitting the experimental single-particle spectra in these nuclei, a new set of Nilsson parameters ($κ$ and $μ$) and deformation parameters ($\varepsilon_2$ and $\varepsilon_4$) are proposed. The experimental kinematic moments of inertia for the rotational bands in even-even, odd-$A$ and odd-odd nuclei, and the bandhead energies of the 1-quasiparticle bands in odd-$A$ nuclei, are reproduced quite well by the PNC-CSM calculations. By analyzing the $ω$-dependence of the occupation probability of each cranked Nilsson orbital near the Fermi surface and the contributions of valence orbitals in each major shell to the angular momentum alignment, the upbending mechanism in this region is understood clearly.

Magneto-transport in impurity-doped few-layer graphene spin valve

Using Keldysh nonequilibrium Green's function method we study the spin-dependent transport through impurity-doped few layer graphene sandwiched between two magnetic leads with an arbitrary mutual orientations of the magnetizations. We find for parallel electrodes magnetizations that the differential conductance possesses two resonant peaks as the applied bias increases. These peaks are traced back to a buildup of a magnetic moment on the impurity due to the electrodes spin polarization. For a large mutual angle of the electrodes magnetization directions, the two resonant peaks approach each others and merge into a single peak for antiparallel orientation of the electrodes magnetizations. We point out that the tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR) may change sign for relatively small changes in the values of the polarization parameters. Furthermore, we inspect the behaviour of the differential conductance and TMR upon varying the temperature.
