Skew information-based coherence generating power of quantum channels

We study the ability of a quantum channel to generate quantum coherence when it applies to incoherent states. We define the measure of coherence generating power (CGP) for a generic quantum channel to be the average coherence generated by the quantum channel acting on a uniform ensemble of incoherent states based on the skew information-based coherence measure. We present explicitly the analytical formulae of the CGP for any arbitrary finite dimensional unitary channels. We derive the mean value of the CGP over the unitary groups and investigate the typicality of the normalized CGP. Furthermore, we give an upper bound of the CGP for the convex combinations of unitary channels. Detailed examples are provided to calculate exactly the values of the CGP for the unitary channels related to specific quantum gates and for some qubit channels.

Sum uncertainty relations based on $(α,β,γ)$ weighted Wigner-Yanase-Dyson skew information

We introduce ($α,β,γ$) weighted Wigner-Yanase-Dyson (($α,β,γ$) WWYD) skew information and ($α,β,γ$) modified weighted Wigner-Yanase-Dyson (($α,β,γ$) MWWYD) skew information. We explore the sum uncertainty relations for arbitrary $N$ mutually noncommutative observables based on ($α,β,γ$) WWYD skew information. A series of uncertainty inequalities are derived. We show by detailed example that our results cover and improve the previous ones based on the original Wigner-Yanase (WY) skew information. Finally, we establish new sum uncertainty relations in terms of the ($α,β,γ$) MWWYD skew information for arbitrary $N$ quantum channels.

Uncertainty of quantum channels via modified generalized variance and modified generalized Wigner-Yanase-Dyson skew information

Uncertainty relation is a fundamental issue in quantum mechanics and quantum information theory. By using modified generalized variance (MGV), and modified generalized Wigner-Yanase-Dyson skew information (MGWYD), we identify the total and quantum uncertainty of quantum channels. The elegant properties of the total uncertainty of quantum channels are explored in detail. In addition, we present a trade-off relation between the total uncertainty of quantum channels and the entanglement fidelity and establish the relationships between the total uncertainty and entropy exchange/coherent information. Detailed examples are given to the explicit formulas of the total uncertainty and the quantum uncertainty of quantum channels. Moreover, utilizing a realizable experimental measurement scheme by using the Mach-Zehnder interferometer proposed in Nirala et al. (Phys Rev A 99:022111, 2019), we discuss how to measure the total/quantum uncertainty of quantum channels for pure states.

Average skew information-based coherence and its typicality for random quantum states

We study the average skew information-based coherence for both random pure and mixed states. The explicit formulae of the average skew information-based coherence are derived and shown to be the functions of the dimension N of the state space. We demonstrate that as N approaches to infinity, the average coherence is 1 for random pure states, and a positive constant less than 1/2 for random mixed states. We also explore the typicality of average skew information-based coherence of random quantum states. Furthermore, we identify a coherent subspace such that the amount of the skew information-based coherence for each pure state in this subspace can be bounded from below almost always by a fixed number that is arbitrarily close to the typical value of coherence.

Coherence and complementarity based on modified generalized skew information

We introduce modified generalized Wigner-Yanase-Dyson (MGWYD) skew information and modified weighted generalized Wigner-Yanase-Dyson (MWGWYD) skew information. By revisiting state-channel interaction based on MGWYD skew information, a family of coherence measures with respect to quantum channels is proposed. Furthermore, explicit analytical expressions of these coherence measures of qubit states are derived with respect to different quantum channels. Moreover, complementarity relations based on MGWYD skew information and MWGWYD skew information are also presented. Specifically, the conservation relations are investigated, while two interpretations of them including symmetry-asymmetry complementarity and wave-particle duality have been proposed.

The $n$-th decay rate of coherence for Bell-diagonal states under quantum channels

We study the degree to which the coherence of quantum states is affected by noise. We give the definition of the $n$-th decay rate and investigate the coherence of Bell-diagonal states under $n$ iterations of channels. We derive explicit formulas of the $n$-th decay rates based on $l_1$ norm of coherence, relative entropy of coherence and skew information-based coherence. It is found that the larger $n$ is, the faster the $n$-th decay rate decreases as the parameter $p$ of Bell-diagonal states increases. Moreover, for any fixed $n$, with the increase of $p$, Bell-diagonal states can be completely incoherent under generalized amplitude damping (GAD) channels, depolarization (DEP) channels and phase flip (PF) channels, while this is not the case for bit flip (BF) channels and bit-phase flip (BPF) channels. We also investigate the geometry of the relative entropy of coherence and skew information-based coherence of Bell-diagonal states under different channels when the $n$-th decay rate is one, i.e., the coherence is frozen. It is shown that compared with BF and BPF channels, when $n$ is large enough, the coherence of Bell-diagonal states will not be frozen under GAD, DEP and PF channels. For skew information-based coherence, similar properties of coherence freezing are found.

Efficiency at maximum power output of quantum heat engines under finite-time operation

We study the efficiency at maximum power, $η_m$, of irreversible quantum Carnot engines (QCEs) that perform finite-time cycles between a hot and a cold reservoir at temperatures $T_h$ and $T_c$, respectively. For QCEs in the reversible limit (long cycle period, zero dissipation), $η_m$ becomes identical to Carnot efficiency $η_{_C}=1-\frac{T_c}{T_h}$. For QCE cycles in which nonadiabatic dissipation and time spent on two adiabats are included, the efficiency $η_m$ at maximum power output is bounded from above by $\frac{η_{_C}}{2-η_{_C}}$ and from below by $\frac{η_{_C}}2$. In the case of symmetric dissipation, the Curzon-Ahlborn efficiency $η_{_{CA}}=1-\sqrt{\frac{T_c}{T_h}}$ is recovered under the condition that the time allocation between the adiabats and the contact time with the reservoir satisfy a certain relation.
