A new parameterized monogamy relation between entanglement and equality

We provide a generalized definition of the monogamy relation for entanglement measures. A monogamy equality rather than the usual inequality is presented based on the monogamy weight, from which we give monogamy relations satisfied by the $α$th $(α>0)$ power of the entanglement measures. Taking concurrence as an example, we further demonstrate the significance and advantages of these relations. In addition, we show that monogamy relations can be recovered by considering multiple copies of states for every non-additive entanglement measure that violates the inequalities. We also demonstrate that the such relations for tripartite states can be generalized to multipartite systems.

Informationally complete measures of quantum entanglement

Although quantum entanglement has already been verified experimentally and applied in quantum computing, quantum sensing and quantum networks, most of the existing measures cannot characterize the entanglement faithfully. In this work, by exploiting the Schmidt decomposition of a bipartite state $|ψ\rangle_{AB}$, we first establish a one-to-one correspondence relation between the characteristic polynomial of the reduced state $ρ_A$ and the polynomials its trace. Then we introduce a family of entanglement measures which are given by the complete eigenvalues of the reduced density matrices of the system. Specific measures called informationally complete entanglement measures (ICEMs) are presented to illustrate the advantages. It is demonstrated that such ICEMs can characterize finer and distinguish better the entanglement than existing well-known entanglement measures. They also give rise to criteria of state transformations under local operation and classical communication. Moreover, we show that the ICEMs can be efficiently estimated on a quantum computer. The fully separability, entanglement and genuine multipartite entanglement can detected faithfully on quantum devices.

Near-Optimal Variance-Based Uncertainty Relations

Learning physical properties of a quantum system is essential for the developments of quantum technologies. However, Heisenberg's uncertainty principle constrains the potential knowledge one can simultaneously have about a system in quantum theory. Aside from its fundamental significance, the mathematical characterization of this restriction, known as `uncertainty relation', plays important roles in a wide range of applications, stimulating the formation of tighter uncertainty relations. In this work, we investigate the fundamental limitations of variance-based uncertainty relations, and introduce several `near optimal' bounds for incompatible observables. Our results consist of two morphologically distinct phases: lower bounds that illustrate the uncertainties about measurement outcomes, and the upper bound that indicates the potential knowledge we can gain. Combining them together leads to an \emph{uncertainty interval}, which captures the essence of uncertainties in quantum theory. Finally, we have detailed how to formulate lower bounds for product-form variance-based uncertainty relations by employing entropic uncertainty relations, and hence built a link between different forms of uncertainty relations.

Quantum Coherence Bounds the Distributed Discords

Establishing quantum correlations between two remote parties by sending an information carrier is an essential step of many protocols in quantum information processing. We obtain trade-off relations between discords and coherence within a bipartite system. Then we study the distribution of coherence in a bipartite quantum state by using the relations of relative entropy and mutual information. We show that the increase of the relative entropy of discord between two remote parties is bounded by the nonclassical correlations quantified by the relative entropy of coherence between the carrier and two remote parties, providing an optimal protocol for discord distribution and showing that quantum correlations are the essential resource for such tasks.

Average skew information-based coherence and its typicality for random quantum states

We study the average skew information-based coherence for both random pure and mixed states. The explicit formulae of the average skew information-based coherence are derived and shown to be the functions of the dimension N of the state space. We demonstrate that as N approaches to infinity, the average coherence is 1 for random pure states, and a positive constant less than 1/2 for random mixed states. We also explore the typicality of average skew information-based coherence of random quantum states. Furthermore, we identify a coherent subspace such that the amount of the skew information-based coherence for each pure state in this subspace can be bounded from below almost always by a fixed number that is arbitrarily close to the typical value of coherence.

A Note on Hierarchy of Quantum Measurement Incompatibilities

The quantum measurement incompatibility is a distinctive feature of quantum mechanics. We investigate the incompatibility of a set of general measurements and classify the incompatibility by the hierarchy of compatibilities of its subsets. By using the approach of adding noises to measurement operators we present a complete classification of the incompatibility of a given measurement assemblage with $n$ members. Detailed examples are given to the incompatibility for unbiased qubit measurements based on semidefinite programm.

Coherence and complementarity based on modified generalized skew information

We introduce modified generalized Wigner-Yanase-Dyson (MGWYD) skew information and modified weighted generalized Wigner-Yanase-Dyson (MWGWYD) skew information. By revisiting state-channel interaction based on MGWYD skew information, a family of coherence measures with respect to quantum channels is proposed. Furthermore, explicit analytical expressions of these coherence measures of qubit states are derived with respect to different quantum channels. Moreover, complementarity relations based on MGWYD skew information and MWGWYD skew information are also presented. Specifically, the conservation relations are investigated, while two interpretations of them including symmetry-asymmetry complementarity and wave-particle duality have been proposed.

Time optimal control based on classification of quantum gates

We study the minimum time to implement an arbitrary two-qubit gate in two heteronuclear spins systems. We give a systematic characterization of two-qubit gates based on the invariants of local equivalence. The quantum gates are classified into four classes, and for each class the analytical formula of the minimum time to implement the quantum gates is explicitly presented. For given quantum gates, by calculating the corresponding invariants one easily obtains the classes to which the quantum gates belong. In particular, we analyze the effect of global phases on the minimum time to implement the gate. Our results present complete solutions to the optimal time problem in implementing an arbitrary two-qubit gate in two heteronuclear spins systems. Detailed examples are given to typical two-qubit gates with or without global phases.

Incompatibility probability of random quantum measurements

Incompatibility of quantum measurements is of fundamental importance in quantum mechanics. It is closely related to many nonclassical phenomena such as Bell nonlocality, quantum uncertainty relations, and quantum steering. We study the necessary and sufficient conditions of quantum compatibility for a given collection of $n$ measurements in $d$-dimensional space. From the compatibility criterion for two-qubit measurements, we compute the incompatibility probability of a pair of independent random measurements. For a pair of unbiased random qubit measurements, we derive that the incompatibility probability is exactly $\frac35$. Detailed results are also presented in figures for pairs of general qubit measurements.

Bounds on Multipartite Concurrence and Tangle

We present an analytical lower bound of multipartite concurrence based on the generalized Bloch representations of density matrices. It is shown that the lower bound can be used as an effective entanglement witness of genuine multipartite entanglement. Tight lower and upper bounds for multipartite tangles are also derived. Since the lower bounds depend on just part of the correlation tensors, the result is experimentally feasible.

Enhanced Information Exclusion Relations

In Hall's reformulation of the uncertainty principle, the entropic uncertainty relation occupies a core position and provides the first nontrivial bound for the information exclusion principle. Based upon recent developments on the uncertainty relation, we present new bounds for the information exclusion relation using majorization theory and combinatoric techniques, which reveal further characteristic properties of the overlap matrix between the measurements.

Geometric Global Quantum Discord of Two-qubit States

We consider the geometric global quantum discord (GGQD) of two-qubit systems. By analyzing the symmetry of geometric global quantum discord we give an approach for deriving analytical formulae of the extremum problem which lies at the core of computing the GGQD for arbitrary two-qubit states. Furthermore, formulae of GGQD of arbitrary two-qubit states and some concrete examples are presented.

Improved Uncertainty Relation in the Presence of Quantum Memory

In Coles-Piani's recent remarkable version of the entropic uncertainty principle, the entropic sum is controlled by the first and second maximum overlaps between the two projective measurements. We generalize the entropic uncertainty relation in the presence of quantum memory and find the exact dependence on all $d$ largest overlaps between two measurements on any $d$-dimensional Hilbert space. The corresponding entropic uncertainty principle in the absence of quantum memory is also derived. Our bounds are strictly tighter than previous entropic bounds in the presence of quantum memory, which have potential applications to quantum cryptography with entanglement witnesses and quantum key distributions.

Multi-observable Uncertainty Relations in Product Form of Variances

We investigate the product form uncertainty relations of variances for $n\,(n\geq 3)$ quantum observables. In particular, tight uncertainty relations satisfied by three observables has been derived, which is shown to be better than the ones derived from the strengthened Heisenberg and the generalized Schrödinger uncertainty relations, and some existing uncertainty relation for three spin-half operators. Uncertainty relation of arbitrary number of observables is also derived. As an example, the uncertainty relation satisfied by the eight Gell-Mann matrices is presented.

Optimal Universal Uncertainty Relations

We study universal uncertainty relations and present a method called joint probability distribution diagram to improve the majorization bounds constructed independently in [Phys. Rev. Lett. 111, 230401 (2013)] and [J. Phys. A. 46, 272002 (2013)]. The results give rise to state independent uncertainty relations satisfied by any nonnegative Schur-concave functions. On the other hand, a remarkable recent result of entropic uncertainty relation is the direct-sum majorization relation. In this paper, we illustrate our bounds by showing how they provide a complement to that in [Phys. Rev. A. 89, 052115 (2014)].

Strong entropic uncertainty relations for multiple measurements

In this paper, we study entropic uncertainty relations on a finite-dimensional Hilbert space and provide several tighter bounds for multi-measurements, with some of them also valid for Rényi and Tsallis entropies besides the Shannon entropy. We employ majorization theory and actions of the symmetric group to obtain an {\it admixture bound} for entropic uncertainty relations for multi-measurements. Comparisons among all bounds for multi-measurements are shown in figures in our favor.

Uniform Entanglement Frames

We present several criteria for genuine multipartite entanglement from universal uncertainty relations based on majorization theory. Under non-negative Schur-concave functions, the vector-type uncertainty relation generates a family of infinitely many detectors to check genuine multipartite entanglement. We also introduce the concept of $k$-separable circles via geometric distance for probability vectors, which include at most $(k-1)$-separable states. The entanglement witness is also generalized to a universal entanglement witness which is able to detect the $k$-separable states more accurately.

Weighted Uncertainty Relations

Recently, Maccone and Pati have given two stronger uncertainty relations based on the sum of variances and one of them is nontrivial when the quantum state is not an eigenstate of the sum of the observables. We derive a family of weighted uncertainty relations to provide an optimal lower bound for all situations and remove the restriction on the quantum state. Generalization to multi-observable cases is also given and an optimal lower bound for the weighted sum of the variances is obtained in general quantum situation.

Genuine multipartite entanglement detection and lower bound of multipartite concurrence

The problems of genuine multipartite entanglement detection and classification are challenging. We show that a multipartite quantum state is genuine multipartite entangled if the multipartite concurrence is larger than certain quantities given by the number and the dimension of the subsystems. This result also provides a classification of various genuine multipartite entanglement. Then, we present a lower bound of the multipartite concurrence in terms of bipartite concurrences. While various operational approaches are available for providing lower bounds of bipartite concurrences, our results give an effective operational way to detect and classify the genuine multipartite entanglement. As applications, the genuine multipartite entanglement of tripartite systems is analyzed in detail.

Local Unitary Invariants of Generic Multi-qubit States

We present a complete set of local unitary invariants for generic multi-qubit systems which gives necessary and sufficient conditions for two states being local unitary equivalent. These invariants are canonical polynomial functions in terms of the generalized Bloch representation of the quantum states. In particular, we prove that there are at most 12 polynomial local unitary invariants for two-qubit states and at most 90 polynomials for three-qubit states. Comparison with Makhlin's 18 local unitary invariants is given for two-quibit systems.

Quantum Nonlocality of Arbitrary Dimensional Bipartite States

We study the nonlocality of arbitrary dimensional bipartite quantum states. By computing the maximal violation of a set of multi-setting Bell inequalities, an analytical and computable lower bound has been derived for general two-qubit states. This bound gives the necessary condition that a two-qubit state admits no local hidden variable models. The lower bound is shown to be better than that from the CHSH inequality in judging the nonlocality of some quantum states. The results are generalized to the case of high dimensional quantum states, and a sufficient condition for detecting the non-locality has been presented.

Towards Grothendieck Constants and LHV Models in Quantum Mechanics

We adopt a continuous model to estimate the Grothendieck constants. An analytical formula to compute the lower bounds of Grothendieck constants has been explicitly derived for arbitrary orders, which improves previous bounds. Moreover, our lower bound of the Grothendieck constant of order three gives a refined bound of the threshold value for the nonlocality of the two-qubit Werner states.

Trade-off Relations of Bell Violations among Pairwise Qubit Systems

We investigate the nonlocality distributions among multiqubit systems based on the maximal violations of the Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt (CHSH) inequality of reduced pairwise qubit systems. We present a trade-off relation satisfied by these maximal violations, which gives rise to restrictions on the distribution of nonlocality among the subqubit systems. For a three-qubit system, it is impossible that all pairs of qubits violate the CHSH inequality, and once a pair of qubits violates the CHSH inequality maximally, the other two pairs of qubits must both obey the CHSH inequality. Detailed examples are given to illustrate the trade-off relations, and the trade-off relations are generalized to arbitrary multiqubit systems.

Local Unitary Equivalence of Multi-qubit Mixed quantum States

We present computable criterion for completely classifying multi-qubit quantum states under local unitary operations. The criterion can be used to detect whether two quantum states in multi-qubit systems are local unitary equivalent or not. Once obtaining the positive answer, we are further able to compute the corresponding unitary operators precisely. Since the scheme is based on the mean values of some quantum mechanical observables, it supplies an experimental way to judge the local equivalence of quantum states.

Local Unitary Invariants for Multipartite Quantum Systems

We present an approach of constructing invariants under local unitary transformations for multipartite quantum systems. The invariants constructed in this way can be complement to that in [Science 340 (2013) 1205-1208]. Detailed examples are given to compute such invariant in detail. It is shown that these invariants can be used to detect the local unitary equivalence of degenerated quantum states.

Quantum Separability Criteria for Arbitrary Dimensional Multipartite States

We present separability criteria for both bipartite and multipartite quantum states. These criteria include the criteria based on the correlation matrix and its generalized form as special cases. We show by detailed examples that our criteria are more powerful than the positive partial transposition criterion, the realignment criterion and the criteria based on the correlation matrices.

Weak Schmidt decomposition and generalized Bell basis related to Hadamard matrices

We study the mathematical structures and relations among some quantities in the theory of quantum entanglement, such as separability, weak Schmidt decompositions, Hadamard matrices etc.. We provide an operational method to identify the Schmidt-correlated states by using weak Schmidt decomposition. We show that a mixed state is Schmidt-correlated if and only if its spectral decomposition consists of a set of pure eigenstates which can be simultaneously diagonalized in weak Schmidt decomposition, i.e. allowing for complex-valued diagonal entries. For such states, the separability is reduced to the orthogonality conditions of the vectors consisting of diagonal entries associated to the eigenstates, which is surprisingly related to the so-called complex Hadamard matrices. Using the Hadamard matrices, we provide a variety of generalized maximal entangled Bell bases.

Criterion of Local Unitary Equivalence for Multipartite States

We study the local unitary equivalence of arbitrary dimensional multipartite quantum mixed states. We present a necessary and sufficient criterion of the local unitary equivalence for general multipartite states based on matrix realignment. The criterion is shown to be operational even for particularly degenerated states by detailed examples. Besides, explicit expressions of the local unitary operators are constructed for locally equivalent states. In complement to the criterion, an alternative approach based on partial transposition of matrices is also given, which makes the criterion more effective in dealing with generally degenerated mixed states.

Entanglement Detection and Distillation for Arbitrary Bipartite Systems

We present an inequality for detecting entanglement and distillability of arbitrary dimensional bipartite systems. This inequality provides a sufficient condition of entanglement for bipartite mixed states, and a necessary and sufficient condition of entanglement for bipartite pure states. Moreover, the inequality also gives a necessary and sufficient condition for distillability.

Identification of three-qubit entanglement

We present a way of identifying all kinds of entanglement for three-qubit pure states in terms of the expectation values of Pauli operators. The necessary and sufficient conditions to classify the fully separable, biseparable, and genuine entangled states are explicitly given. The approach can be generalized to multipartite high-dimensional cases. For three-qubit mixed states, we propose two kinds of inequalities in terms of the expectation values of complementary observables. One inequality has advantages in entanglement detection of the quantum state with positive partial transpositions, and the other is able to detect genuine entanglement. The results give an effective method for experimental entanglement identification.

Local unitary invariants for multipartite states

We study the invariants of arbitrary dimensional multipartite quantum states under local unitary transformations. For multipartite pure states, we give a set of invariants in terms of singular values of coefficient matrices. For multipartite mixed states, we propose a set of invariants in terms of the trace of coefficient matrices. For full ranked mixed states with nondegenerate eigenvalues, this set of invariants is also the necessary and sufficient conditions for the local unitary equivalence of such two states.

Polynomial Growth Harmonic Functions on Finitely Generated Abelian Groups

In the present paper, we develop geometric analytic techniques on Cayley graphs of finitely generated abelian groups to study the polynomial growth harmonic functions. We develop a geometric analytic proof of the classical Heilbronn theorem and the recent Nayar theorem on polynomial growth harmonic functions on lattices $\mathds{Z}^n$ that does not use a representation formula for harmonic functions. We also calculate the precise dimension of the space of polynomial growth harmonic functions on finitely generated abelian groups. While the Cayley graph not only depends on the abelian group, but also on the choice of a generating set, we find that this dimension depends only on the group itself.

Quantum Correlations Induced by Local von Neumann Measurement

We study the total quantum correlation, semiquantum correlation and joint quantum correlation induced by local von Neumann measurement in bipartite system. We analyze the properties of these quantum correlations and obtain analytical formula for pure states. The experimental witness for these quantum correlations is further provided and the significance of these quantum correlations is discussed in the context of local distinguishability of quantum states.

Time optimal quantum control of two-qubit systems

We study the optimal quantum control of heteronuclear two-qubit systems described by a Hamiltonian containing both nonlocal internal drift and local control terms. We derive an explicit formula to compute the minimum time required to steer the system from an initial state to a specified final state. As applications the minimal time to implement Controlled-NOT gate, SWAP gate and Controlled-U gate is calculated in detail. The experimental realizations of these quantum gates are explicitly presented.

Complete Entanglement Witness for Quantum Teleportation

We propose a set of linear quantum entanglement witnesses constituted by local quantum-mechanical observables with each two possible measurement outcomes. These witnesses detect all the entangled resources which give rise to a better fidelity than separable states in quantum teleportation and present both sufficient and necessary conditions in experimentally detecting the useful resources for quantum teleportation.

preprint2012arXiv

Local Unitary Equivalence of Arbitrary Dimensional Bipartite Mixed Quantum States

The nonlocal properties of arbitrary dimensional bipartite quantum systems are investigated. A complete set of invariants under local unitary transformations is presented. These invariants give rise to both sufficient and necessary conditions for the equivalence of quantum states under local unitary transformations: two density matrices are locally equivalent if and only if all these invariants have equal values.

Faithful teleportation with arbitrary pure or mixed resource states

We study faithful teleportation systematically with arbitrary entangled states as resources. The necessary conditions of mixed states to complete perfect teleportation are proved. Based on these results, the necessary and sufficient conditions of faithful teleportation of an unknown state |ϕ> in C^d with an entangled resource ρ in C^m \otimes C^d and C^d \otimes C^n are derived. It is shown that for ρ in C^m\otimesC^d, ρ must be a maximally entangled state, while for ρ in C^d \otimes C^n, ρ must be a puremaximally entangled state. Moreover, we show that the sender's measurements must be all projectors of maximally entangled pure states. The relations between the entanglement of the formation of the resource states and faithful teleportation are also discussed.

Lower Bound of Concurrence and Distillation for Arbitrary Dimensional Bipartite Quantum States

We present a lower bound of concurrence for arbitrary dimensional bipartite quantum states. This lower bound may be used to improve all the known lower bounds of concurrence. Moreover, the lower bound gives rise to an operational sufficient criterion of distillability of quantum entanglement. The significance of our result is illustrated by quantitative evaluation of entanglement for entangled states that fail to be identified by the usual concurrence estimation method, and by showing the distillability of mixed states that can not be recognized by other distillability criteria.

Quantum Entanglement: Separability, Measure, Fidelity of Teleportation and Distillation

Quantum entanglement plays crucial roles in quantum information processing. Quantum entangled states have become the key ingredient in the rapidly expanding field of quantum information science. Although the nonclassical nature of entanglement has been recognized for many years, considerable efforts have been taken to understand and characterize its properties recently. In this review, we introduce some recent results in the theory of quantum entanglement. In particular separability criteria based on the Bloch representation, covariance matrix, normal form and entanglement witness; lower bounds, subadditivity property of concurrence and tangle; fully entangled fraction related to the optimal fidelity of quantum teleportation and entanglement distillation will be discussed in detail.
