H-T phase diagrams of a holographic p-wave superfluid

We study the competition between the p-wave and the p+ip superfluid solutions in a holographic model with applied magnetic field intensity $H$. We find that when $H$ is turned on, both the grand potential and the critical temperature of the p+ip solution are shifted, while the p-wave solution is only slightly affected. Combining the effect of $H$ and back reaction parameter b, we build $H-T$ phase diagrams with a slit region of p+ip phase. The zero (or finite) value of $H$ at the starting point of the slit region is related to second (or first) order of the p-wave phase transition at zero magnetic intensity, which should be universal in systems with degenerate critical points (spinodal points) at zero magnetic field.

Holographic multi-condensate with nonlinear terms

We study the influence of nonlinear terms quartic of the charged fields, which do not change the critical points of single condensate solutions, on the phase structure of a holographic model with multi-condensate in probe limit. We include one s-wave order and one p-wave order charged under the same U(1) gauge field in the holographic model and study the influence of the three quartic nonlinear terms of the charged fields with coefficients $λ_s$, $λ_p$ and $λ_{sp}$ on the phase structure. We show the influence of each of the three parameters on the phase diagram with other two set to zero, respectively. With these nonlinear terms, we get more power on tuning the phase structure of the holographic system showing multi-condensate, and show how to get a reentrant phase transition as an example.

Holographic boiling and generalized thermodynamic description beyond local equilibrium

Tuning a very simple two-component holographic superfluid model, we can have a first order phase transition between two superfluid phases in the probe limit. Inspired by the potential landscape discussion, an intuitive physical picture for systems with first order phase transitions is provided. We stress that holography perfectly offers a generalized thermodynamic description of certain strongly coupled systems even out of local equilibrium, which enables us to carefully study domain wall structures of the system under first order phase transitions, either static or in real time dynamics. We numerically construct the 1D domain wall configuration and compute the surface tension of the domain wall from its generalized grand potential. We also numerically simulate the real time dynamics of a 2D bubble nucleation process (holographic boiling). The surface tension of the 1D domain wall nicely matches the final state of the 2D bubble nucleation process when the bubble radius is large enough.

Holographic Forced Fluid Dynamics in Non-relativistic Limit

We study the thermodynamics and non-relativistic hydrodynamics of the holographic fluid on a finite cutoff surface in the Gauss-Bonnet gravity. It is shown that the isentropic flow of the fluid is equivalent to a radial component of gravitational field equations. We use the non-relativistic fluid expansion method to study the Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton system with a negative cosmological constant, and obtain the holographic incompressible forced Navier-Stokes equations of the dual fluid at AdS boundary and at a finite cutoff surface, respectively. The concrete forms of external forces are given.

Holographic Phase Transitions of P-wave Superconductors in Gauss-Bonnet Gravity with Back-reaction

We investigate the phase transitions of holographic p-wave superconductors in (4+1)-dimensional Einstein-Yang-Mills-Gauss-Bonnet theories, in a grand canonical ensemble. Turning on the back-reaction of the Yang-Mills field, it is found that the condensations of vector order parameter become harder if the Gauss-Bonnet coefficient grows up or the back-reaction becomes stronger. In particular, the vector order parameter exhibits the features of first order and second order phase transitions, while only the second order phase transition is observed in the probe limit. We discuss the roles that the Gauss-Bonnet term and the back-reaction play in changing the order of phase transition.

The first order hydrodynamics via AdS/CFT correspondence in the Gauss-Bonnet gravity

In the spirit of the AdS/CFT correspondence, we investigate the hydrodynamics of the dual conformal field in the Gauss-Bonnet gravity. By considering the parameters of the boosted black brane in the Gauss-Bonnet gravity as functions of boundary coordinates, and then solving the corresponding correction terms, we calculate the first order stress-energy tensor of the dual conformal field. From this first order stress-energy tensor, we also obtain the shear viscosity and entropy density. And these results are consistent with those of some previous works from the effective coupling of gravitons.

Holographic p-wave superconductors from Gauss-Bonnet gravity

We study the holographic p-wave superconductors in a five-dimensional Gauss-Bonnet gravity with an SU(2) Yang-Mills gauge field. In the probe approximation, we find that when the Gauss-Bonnet coefficient grows, the condensation of the vector field becomes harder, both the perpendicular and parallel components, with respect to the direction of the condensation, of the anisotropic conductivity decrease. We also study the mass of the quasi-particle excitations, the gap frequency and the DC conductivities of the p-wave superconductor. All of them depend on the Gauss-Bonnet coefficient. In addition we observe a strange behavior for the condensation and the relation between the gap frequency and the mass of quasi-particles when the Gauss-Bonnet coefficient is larger than 9/100, which is the upper bound for the Gauss-Bonnet coefficient from the causality of the dual field theory.

Quasinormal Modes of Charged Fermions and Phase Transition of Black Holes

We study the quasinormal modes of massless charged fermions in a Reissner-Nordstrom-anti-de Sitter black hole spacetime. In the probe limit, we find that the imaginary part of quasinormal frequency will become positive when the temperature of the black hole is below a critical value. This indicates an instability of the black hole occurs and a phase transition happens. In the AdS/CFT correspondence, this transition can be viewed as a superconducting phase transition and the bulk fermion is regarded as the order parameter. When the coupling of the fermions and the background electric field becomes stronger, the critical temperature of the phase transition becomes higher. If the interaction between the fermion and the electric field can be ignored, namely in the case of a neutral fermion, the imaginary part of the quasinormal modes is always negative, which indicates that the black hole is stable and no phase transition occurs.
