A Measure-Theoretic Analysis of Reasoning: Structural Generalization and Approximation Limits

While empirical scaling laws for LLM reasoning are well-documented, the theoretical mechanisms governing out-of-distribution (OOD) generalization remain elusive. We formalize reasoning via optimal transport, projecting discrete trajectories into a continuous metric space to quantify domain shifts using the Wasserstein-1 distance. Invoking Kantorovich duality, we bound OOD generalization via architectural Lipschitz continuity and functional approximation limits. This exposes two primary constraints. First, position-dependent attention (e.g., Absolute Positional Encoding) fails to preserve shift invariance, yielding an $Ω(1)$ Lipschitz constant and expected risk, whereas shift-invariant mechanisms (e.g., Rotary Embeddings) preserve equivariance and bound the error. Second, by mapping sequential backtracking to a Dyck-$k$ language, we establish a strict circuit depth lower bound for $\text{TC}^0$ Transformers. Scaling physical layer depth is necessary to avert representation collapse -- a constraint that scaling representation width cannot bypass due to irreducible approximation bounds in Barron spaces. Evaluations across 54 Transformer configurations on combinatorial search corroborate these bounds, demonstrating that generalization risk degrades monotonically with the Wasserstein domain shift.

Decentralized Diffusion Policy Learning for Enhanced Exploration in Cooperative Multi-agent Reinforcement Learning

Cooperative multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) involves complex agent interactions and requires effective exploration strategies. A prominent class of MARL algorithms, decentralized softmax policy gradient (DecSPG), addresses this through energy-based policy updates. In practice, however, such energy-based policies are intractable to maintain and are commonly projected onto the Gaussian policy class. In this work, we show that the limited expressiveness of Gaussian policies severely hinders exploration in DecSPG, and this limitation worsens as the number of agents grows. To address this issue, we propose decentralized diffusion policy learning (DDPL), which parameterizes each agent's policy with a denoising diffusion probabilistic model, an expressive generative model that captures multi-modal action distributions for enhanced exploration. DDPL enables efficient online training of diffusion policies via importance sampling score matching (ISSM), a novel training method with theoretical guarantee. We evaluate DDPL on representative continuous-action MARL benchmarks, including multi-agent particle environment, multi-agent MuJoCo, IsaacLab, and JAX-reimplemented StarCraft multi-agent challenge, and observe consistently improved performance.

ELAIPBench: A Benchmark for Expert-Level Artificial Intelligence Paper Understanding

While large language models (LLMs) excel at many domain-specific tasks, their ability to deeply comprehend and reason about full-length academic papers remains underexplored. Existing benchmarks often fall short of capturing such depth, either due to surface-level question design or unreliable evaluation metrics. To address this gap, we introduce ELAIPBench, a benchmark curated by domain experts to evaluate LLMs' comprehension of artificial intelligence (AI) research papers. Developed through an incentive-driven, adversarial annotation process, ELAIPBench features 403 multiple-choice questions from 137 papers. It spans three difficulty levels and emphasizes non-trivial reasoning rather than shallow retrieval. Our experiments show that the best-performing LLM achieves an accuracy of only 39.95%, far below human performance. Moreover, we observe that frontier LLMs equipped with a thinking mode or a retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) system fail to improve final results-even harming accuracy due to overthinking or noisy retrieval. These findings underscore the significant gap between current LLM capabilities and genuine comprehension of academic papers.

LiFT: Lifted Inter-slice Feature Trajectories for 3D Image Generation from 2D Generators

High-resolution 3D medical image generation remains challenging because fully volumetric models are computationally expensive, while efficient 2D slice generators often fail to preserve anatomical consistency across the third dimension. We propose LiFT, a framework for Lifted inter-slice Feature Trajectories that factorizes 3D volume synthesis into per-slice image generation and inter-slice trajectory learning. Rather than modeling the volumetric distribution end-to-end, LiFT treats a volume as an ordered trajectory in feature space, capturing how anatomical structures appear, transform, and disappear across depth. A tri-planar drifting loss aligns the trajectory of generated slices with the trajectories of real volumes, enabling distributional learning over inter-slice progressions in unconditional generation; in paired translation, a bidirectional $z$-context mixer trained against the registered target supplies through-plane coherence while preserving per-slice fidelity. We evaluate LiFT on BraTS 2023 (unconditional and missing-modality MR) and SynthRAD2023 (MR-to-CT). Across these settings, LiFT preserves per-slice quality, approaches the reported cWDM missing-MR reconstruction quality at $\sim$$135\times$ lower inference cost (without formal equivalence testing), and improves through-plane coherence on MR-to-CT relative to a no-mapper ablation, demonstrating that lightweight inter-slice trajectory learning is a viable route to high-resolution 3D medical synthesis.

On the Absolute-Value Integral of a Brownian Motion with Drift: Exact and Asymptotic Formulae

The present paper is concerned with the integral of the absolute value of a Brownian motion with drift. By establishing an asymptotic expansion of the space Laplace transform, we obtain series representations for the probability density function and cumulative distribution function of the integral, making use of Meijer's G-function. A functional recursive formula is derived for the moments, which is shown to yield only exponentials and Gauss' error function up to arbitrary orders, permitting exact computations. To obtain sharp asymptotic estimates for small- and large-deviation probabilities, we employ a marginal space-time Laplace transform and apply a newly developed generalization of Laplace's method to exponential Airy integrals. The impact of drift on the complete distribution of the integral is explored in depth. The resultant new formulae complement existing ones in the standard Brownian motion case to great extent in terms of both theoretical generality and modeling capacity and have been presented for easy implementation, which numerical experiments demonstrate.

STEP3-VL-10B Technical Report

We present STEP3-VL-10B, a lightweight open-source foundation model designed to redefine the trade-off between compact efficiency and frontier-level multimodal intelligence. STEP3-VL-10B is realized through two strategic shifts: first, a unified, fully unfrozen pre-training strategy on 1.2T multimodal tokens that integrates a language-aligned Perception Encoder with a Qwen3-8B decoder to establish intrinsic vision-language synergy; and second, a scaled post-training pipeline featuring over 1k iterations of reinforcement learning. Crucially, we implement Parallel Coordinated Reasoning (PaCoRe) to scale test-time compute, allocating resources to scalable perceptual reasoning that explores and synthesizes diverse visual hypotheses. Consequently, despite its compact 10B footprint, STEP3-VL-10B rivals or surpasses models 10$\times$-20$\times$ larger (e.g., GLM-4.6V-106B, Qwen3-VL-235B) and top-tier proprietary flagships like Gemini 2.5 Pro and Seed-1.5-VL. Delivering best-in-class performance, it records 92.2% on MMBench and 80.11% on MMMU, while excelling in complex reasoning with 94.43% on AIME2025 and 75.95% on MathVision. We release the full model suite to provide the community with a powerful, efficient, and reproducible baseline.

Max-Entropy Reinforcement Learning with Flow Matching and A Case Study on LQR

Soft actor-critic (SAC) is a popular algorithm for max-entropy reinforcement learning. In practice, the energy-based policies in SAC are often approximated using simple policy classes for efficiency, sacrificing the expressiveness and robustness. In this paper, we propose a variant of the SAC algorithm that parameterizes the policy with flow-based models, leveraging their rich expressiveness. In the algorithm, we evaluate the flow-based policy utilizing the instantaneous change-of-variable technique and update the policy with an online variant of flow matching developed in this paper. This online variant, termed importance sampling flow matching (ISFM), enables policy update with only samples from a user-specified sampling distribution rather than the unknown target distribution. We develop a theoretical analysis of ISFM, characterizing how different choices of sampling distributions affect the learning efficiency. Finally, we conduct a case study of our algorithm on the max-entropy linear quadratic regulator problems, demonstrating that the proposed algorithm learns the optimal action distribution.

Ultrafast Exciton-Polariton Transport and Relaxation in Halide Perovskite

Halide perovskites offer a great platform for room-temperature exciton-polaritons (EPs) due to their strong oscillator strength and large exciton binding energy, promising applications in next-generation photonic and polaritonic devices. Efficient manipulation of EP transport and relaxation is critical for device performance, yet their spatiotemporal dynamics across different in-plane momenta (k//) remain poorly understood due to limitations in experimental access. In this work, we employ energy-resolved transient reflectance microscopy (TRM) combined with the dispersion relation of EPs to achieve high-resolution imaging of EP transport at specific k//. This approach directly reveals the quasi-ballistic transport and ultrafast relaxation of EPs in different k// regions, showcasing diffusion as fast as ~490 cm2/s and a relaxation time of ~95.1 fs. Furthermore, by tuning the detuning parameter, we manipulate the ballistic transport group velocity and relaxation time of EPs across varying k//. Our results reveal key insights into the dynamics of EP transport and relaxation, providing valuable guidance for the design and optimization of polaritonic devices.

DyLex: Incorporating Dynamic Lexicons into BERT for Sequence Labeling

Incorporating lexical knowledge into deep learning models has been proved to be very effective for sequence labeling tasks. However, previous works commonly have difficulty dealing with large-scale dynamic lexicons which often cause excessive matching noise and problems of frequent updates. In this paper, we propose DyLex, a plug-in lexicon incorporation approach for BERT based sequence labeling tasks. Instead of leveraging embeddings of words in the lexicon as in conventional methods, we adopt word-agnostic tag embeddings to avoid re-training the representation while updating the lexicon. Moreover, we employ an effective supervised lexical knowledge denoising method to smooth out matching noise. Finally, we introduce a col-wise attention based knowledge fusion mechanism to guarantee the pluggability of the proposed framework. Experiments on ten datasets of three tasks show that the proposed framework achieves new SOTA, even with very large scale lexicons.

MTLDesc: Looking Wider to Describe Better

Limited by the locality of convolutional neural networks, most existing local features description methods only learn local descriptors with local information and lack awareness of global and surrounding spatial context. In this work, we focus on making local descriptors "look wider to describe better" by learning local Descriptors with More Than just Local information (MTLDesc). Specifically, we resort to context augmentation and spatial attention mechanisms to make our MTLDesc obtain non-local awareness. First, Adaptive Global Context Augmented Module and Diverse Local Context Augmented Module are proposed to construct robust local descriptors with context information from global to local. Second, Consistent Attention Weighted Triplet Loss is designed to integrate spatial attention awareness into both optimization and matching stages of local descriptors learning. Third, Local Features Detection with Feature Pyramid is given to obtain more stable and accurate keypoints localization. With the above innovations, the performance of our MTLDesc significantly surpasses the prior state-of-the-art local descriptors on HPatches, Aachen Day-Night localization and InLoc indoor localization benchmarks.
